"Chicken and Whiskey is opening its second location in the Mall in Columbia this March with a huge whiskey selection, pollo a la brasa, as well as new menu items. The South American rotisserie restaurant and whiskey bar opened its first location in Logan Circle in 2017. Plus, a Navy Yard location is in the works." - Stephanie Carter

I ordered the half chicken with two sides. I was given a thigh and a drumstick, and a breast and a wing. The meat was exactly what I would want from a Peruvian chicken place. It had good flavor and came right off of the bone. The yuca fries were some of the best I've had. They were crispy on the outside and airy and flaky on the inside with a nice seasoning. The plantains were equally as good. For $15 I was happy with the portion size and was full after my meal. I also tried all three sauces. The yellow sauce was mild and had a great flavor to it. The red sauce was a bit spicy with a nice flavor. It wasn't overly spicy though. The whiskey BBQ sauce was delicious with a nice smoky flavor. My wife got one of the arepas with braised beef. The beef was delicious. The service was fine. You walk up, order your food, and they prepare it right in front of you. Then you move down the line and pay. Pretty simple and fast. You move down the line and then you pay. The dining area was pretty empty. It was a casual wooden bench style seating. It appeared clean. We will definitely be back.

If you call this place CHICKEN + WHISKEY, i am expecting good chicken and a decent selection of whiskey…BUT, this spot had none 😂 and I am not even exaggerating. 👎🏼 Had the 1/4 chicken + 2 sides: - chicken was under cooked, meat was not falling off the bones, took some effort to get the meats off - sides: plantain was under cooked, hard to bite in to; pork and rice tasted awful and old. Whiskey selection was a joke, all they have was ONE pre-mixed “old fashioned” 👎🏼cost $12 for this 1 water down piece of junk 🤬 super over priced. Service: horrible. The guy who took my order had a pissy attitude, I asked him what was the round paddy thing they had and he answered with a tone as if everyone supposed to know everything they serve. And he grabbed the chicken basically tossed it to the tray before cut a piece 👎🏼…clearly someone didn’t want to work there. Cashier: as I tried to order a drink when checking out, and tried to clarify how many whiskey drinks they have and if they are pre-mixed, but 2 cashiers, none of them understood my basic question 🤦🏻‍♀️👎🏼. Atmosphere: open concept, space feels nice, but tables are filthy, especially with barely any customers in the restaurant, none of the staff bothered to clean up the place a bit 👎🏼 Sorry to say, definitely not coming back, especially when I can much better Peruvian chicken elsewhere and much better services.

I tried to NOT to leave bad reviews, but this is hands down one of the worst food tastes I have ever tasted; $80 to the trash. I ordered the chicken, house salad, yuca, sweet plantain, black beans and a 3 leches (the only decent thing out of all). Wow, I don’t even know where to begin, the food is absolutely trash, probably rotten food tastes better. The taste for everything was absolutely tasteless with a very disgusting flavor. I spent $80 at this place to just to order a pizza from a different place. Everything that I ordered was just so bad, as soon as I smelled the food, I knew I was in for disappointment; I was not wrong. The only good thing was the 3 leches but besides that, everything else was gross, even the sweet plantain, I don’t even understand how they can make sweet plantains taste bad…. Don’t let the looks trick you!

Google
I ordered on DoorDash. I’m reviewing only chicken + whiskey items though I did get Bennie’s pizza too and I really liked that option being available. The notable items in this review are the og old fashioned and Pollo Frito. The old fashioned was delicious, and I normally have a chaser prepared for whiskey because it’s not my favorite and I’m not that strong but this was quite nice. It was WAY smaller than I expected for $24. Yes, I’m sure there is a markup for DoorDash and they likely had the volume listed somewhere but I thought it was worth a mention for anyone interested in the item. The photo has an iPhone 13 Pro Max and credit card for scale. The Pollo Frito, and I’m very disappointed to say this, was pretty inedible. It’s a shame because I can tell every ingredient was delicious and the flavor pairings thoughtful. In truth the sandwich was delicious the issue was the flavor of the breading on the chicken. First, it looked like two chicken tenders and not a filet, that’s okay. The chicken itself was juicy and flavorful; however; the oil this was fried in was clearly old. It was late in the evening, 1 hour before they closed when I ordered, and I believe they pushed the oil past its viable point because of the hassle and cost. That burnt oil taste is incredibly apparent and distracting. I took one bite and moved over to the pizza we ordered and moved on. I would get this again maybe but I’m not getting anything fried from them if it’s later in the day. Note, the lighting doesn’t do justice of how dark the breading is despite the size of the chicken tender which shouldn’t be possible unless the oil is too far gone and nasty (which is bad for you and breaks down the molecules into carcinogens btw but also it’s just nasty tasting.) I fry multiple times a week and know this phenomenon. I understand why they made the choice as a business, but I’m disappointed as a recipient expecting a consistent product during posted operating hours.

Great! I’ve been visiting the 14th St DC location for 2+ Years. I was so excited when they opened this one so close to me. Ambience is nice, the bar is fully stocked with a plethora of whiskey’s, I was a little disappointed they were out of Wray and nephew for a drink I ordered. Food is good with a lot of vegan options! Kitchen is fast. I always go with the Vegan wrap with plantains on the side. The plantains are amazing but they are really sweet, I was unsatisfied in my rice this time it wasn’t as fresh and flavorful as normal, lastly the dessert was phenomenal. Monday is happy hour all day for bar an it’s never very crowded on Mondays. My new local favorite whiskey bar, Earl at the bar is amazing. If you are a whisky drinker please check them out!

Google
The prices were as expected for a casual quasi-fast food experience and the food was nice; not mind blowing but good enough to go back and try something else another time. I loved that the kids menu had fare from the main menu and the price was superb as well. My only gripe was the whiskey cocktail -- it is served in a plastic cup and it's on tap...had we known that we probably wouldn't have ordered one. That being said, it wasn't bad.

Ordered carryout, multiple items were missing..The restaurant would not make this right, even after knowing it was a child's meal that was missing. I had to order a whole another meal from a different restaurant, don't waste your time with this restaurant. Food quality was not good either. Over $80 to feed a family of four and two items were missing. Very disappointing, will not use again ***January 19th update. I did email the manager below, his response was less then adequate. I'm sorry, but offering me a gift card that doesn't cover the cost of the items is unacceptable. I would have at least offered to mail it to me, he expected me to come to his location. This was for a door dash order, you need to make things right first. I also responded to his email and never heard another response. Don't waste your time with this establishment

Had a great time with my dad here for my birthday. The food was delicious & worth the price. Always wanted to try the Lobster Roll & Oysters. It was so good & filling. My waitress Adrianna (apologies for misspelling) was awesome! She was very attentive while constantly informing us of our order. Her personality made my experience better. Thank you for the suggestions & your company! Can't wait to come back 😁

Yelp
Pork Belly Arepas was amazing!! Has some gluten-free option like half a chicken that were good too. Atmosphere is fast food, but food was delicious. On the outskirts of Columbia mall.

Yelp
Pretty disappointing, this place is the definition of gentrified Peruvian chicken. The chicken itself is fine, but definitely not like any of the peruvian chicken places in our area. It is closer to a rotisserie chicken you buy at the grocery store. Sides are all bland. The roasted corn was cold and seems like it was dumped from a can. The yuca was dry and had no taste, aside from a weird tangy/lime seasoning they throw on top. I was also sad I paid $7 for the most darkest and unfreshest guacamole I've ever seen. Even Chipotle will give you better guac. Their house made sauce do nothing for the chicken and also come in ketchup packages. I usually do not wrote bad reviews but this place definitely changed that for me, esp when we have so many delicious Peruvian places in Maryland. Also f you order online, the prices are higher too.

Yelp
Visited this new spot for lunch with my mom and we were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. The food here is amazing and the service is quick. Highly recommend trying the Carne Mechada Bowl ($14.00) with braised beef, plantains, avocado, black beans, and your choice of arroz finished with ají amarillo sauce or greens with avocado vinaigrette. The Arepas: Carne Mecada ($10.75) with braised beef, plantains, avocado, pepperjack cheese, and Aji Amarillo sauce are also delicious. The flavors of both dishes were delightful and well-combined. The presentation of the food is so tempting, you'll want to dig right in. The sweet plantains were a pleasant surprise with their spiced syrup. It's like having candied plátanos instead of candied yams. Interesting but yummy! And don't forget, you can enjoy your meal outside while listening to the music.

Yelp
I like the idea and concept of Chicken + Whiskey, it's a quick-serve Peruvian Chicken place, and you don't end up waiting long for your food at all, because everything is assembled in front of you Chipotle-style. The service is friendly and quick so they definitely get points for that! For food, I got the Whole Chicken + 4 Sides, a Nachos dish that wasn't on the main menu but was promoted on a separate poster, and the Churro Donuts. The Whole Chicken itself was delicious, the dark meat was super moist and flavorful, the breast white meat was also pretty moist, some spots were a bit on the dry side here and there but still nicely cooked overall. The Nacho's were loaded up with a ton of sauce, and while the sauce was flavorful and tasty, it made the chips a bit too soggy to hold all of the good toppings. Still a nice dish to share amongst your table though. For the sides we got: Yuca, Plantains, Corn and Tomatoes, and Mac n Queso; the Yuca and Plantains are my favorites at any Peruvian Chicken place, they were pretty solid here! The Corn and Tomatoes was a lighter side and a nice refreshing palette cleanser after all the meat, the Mac n Queso however was quite bland and mushy, so I'd recommend to try a different side. Lastly, the Churro Donuts had decent cinnamon flavoring too them, but texture wise they absorbed a ton of grease and ended up being super mushy and oily to eat as a result. Not something I'd want to eat more than a bite of, but maybe it was just a badly cooked batch. Overall if I could I would give it a 3.5 stars, but I'll round it up to 4 on Yelp. Definitely will have to come back sometime and try some other dishes and sides to round out my opinion, but it's definitely a solid option in the Columbia Town Center area.

Yelp
Came here after a site walk through at Merriweather. Had seen the spot before but never tried it. Now I am mad it's taken me this long because the food was so good! I don't even eat black beans like that but I finished this whole meal. it comes with a sauce but I got it without and it was still good! I ordered the chicken soup to go which was also good. If you don't like spicy then get it without the green sauce they add in and add some rice. Will definitely go again

Mark S.

Yelp
This place is a major disappointment. First, the chicken is very one note and all of the dishes taste pretty much the same. Not a huge fan. Second, the whiskey. They have an impressive list, to be sure. But the prices! You could buy a bottle of most of their selections for the cost of a couple of shots. Way overpriced.

Karla B.

Yelp
Everything is delicious, the chicken is juicy, but this review is specifically about the empanadas, they are amazing, you can't miss them, they have chicken, beef, and one with just vegetables, my favorite is the beef one. DELICIOUS!! The staff is always friendly and the place is also very clean.

Sera K.

Yelp
The food was so delicious and I was able to order quickly. I got the 1/4 chicken with roasted corn + tomato and yucca fries. Everything tasted fresh and the yucca fries were nice and warm. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for a quick bite and is looking for chicken that is a bit different from Nandos, but with a similar vibe.

Yelp
Who cant appreciate a thursday evening, old Fashion? This one was $22 (bit pricey) but worth every damn penny. Idk if i could back to your run of the mill basic old fashion. The bartender recommended and it was top notch. Strong but not in a bad way, has a subtle kick...not like being kicked by a horse but more like a toddler. The turkey hero was perfect. Every element of the sandwich was amazing. It just needed mayo. Honestly it was 4.5/5 as is. 5/5 with mayo.

Rediet K.

Yelp
Loved loved loved their arepas here. If you're looking for a nice whiskey bar that also had good food make sure you check them out. I've gone to the Columbia and both dc locations on several occasions and left belly full and tastebuds delighted. Their La Comadre Arepa which I have been obsessed with is amazing, Churro donut is fire, Half Chicken with sides (Arroz Chaufa and sweet plantains) is equally delicious. They have really good happy hour Monday-Friday 4-7pm at the

Yelp
Came here to watch the game and hang out for a bit since they are one of the restaurants in the area that are open later. It's sad to say that they have gone down. When we were afforded the elite event last year to swing by and try a drink and food, I felt the bartender was a lot more knowledgeable. On this occasion the bartender that served us seem to be new. But they were out of a lot of things and syrups that I asked for. I didn't want to drink alcohol that night but I was told I couldn't have any syrups because their Seltzer was not working. I had to go next door to the other restaurant and get a drink and bring it back. The bartender got a lot of the orders wrong and a couple sitting beside me actually got up and left. I took a picture of new sauces that come in a pack I see they're now offering. I didn't try them because my arepa was perfect mine is all the extra cheese. I forgot about the plantain hiding inside and was pleasantly surprised.

Jennie W.

Yelp
I just LOVE the arepas here! GF and the crunch makes the Sammie so much more enjoyable! Can't speak for anything else tho.... I am a creature of habit LOL Ohh and the best part is I can sneak in some pizza at Bennie's next door for my kids, which is also FANTASTIC!

Yelp
New to the Columbia Mall! Chicken + Whiskey is my new favorite chicken spot in the Columbia Mall Area. I am obsessed with the Arepitas! This corn flatbread is stuffed with pulled chicken, sweet plantains, jalapeños and a delicious sauce. You're gonna need a drink to wash this down so if you don't order a whiskey or cocktail I recommend the guarana. For me guarana is a childhood favorite, a delicious berry drink that is the equivalent of the coke a cola or Brazil. The crunchy flatbread with the spicy and sweet arepa paired with the tart and crisp soda is a match made in heaven. It will leave you craving for more. So as tempting as it is to get the roasted chicken on its own this sandwich is next level. I hope you stop by and taste what I'm talking about. Service: Once you order you food, you can find a seat at a table until your order is called. Ambiance: A+ Vibrant music plays as you enjoy your food and the decor is on point with the theme. When should you go: Happy hour: All day on Monday! Or 6-7 pm on Thursday and Fri Friday + Saturday night enjoy a live dj $7 daqaries after 7pm 7 days a week Whiskey Wednesday: 25% off select whiskey Late night eats: open till 2 am?!?

Yelp
Great vibes! Happy this location is here. If you haven't been, they're next to Shake Shack! I've been to the original one near U Street and that was always fun. This one is much closer for me! Apparently, there's a location at Navy Yard and soon to come, Clarendon, VA. Woot! Not quite a "speakeasy" set up here. One side is the bar area and the other side is the restaurant. You can order food in the bar area! On a Friday night, it's a whole vibe! Around 10, the DJ came on. Don't know his name but he played all the good ole school music! Loved it! I wasn't super hungry but decided to try one of their arepas ("La Comadre"), which was a lot more filling than I anticipated but very delicious. I stuck to old fashion for my cocktail with Elijah Craig as my bourbon of choice. Well made drink! Kudos! Our server, Earl was great. He was working very hard. Please give that man a raise! I'm serious! Parking is free but close spots are scarce. There's also a garage somewhat close by (also free). I'll be back for sure.

Eden C.

Yelp
La comadre arepa is so good, probably the best arepa I've ever had. The arepa is crispy, and the addition of both chicken and plantain adds to a combo of delicious flavors and texture. I've had their chicken with sides as well but they were a bit too salty for my taste. It's a great place to grab happy hour or chill with friends!

Steven K.

Yelp
Visited this new spot for lunch pleasantly surprised by how good it was. The food here is amazing and the service is quick.

Tank G.

Yelp
This is a very interesting place. It is kind of like a fast food place of sorts, with a bar next to it. There is seating everywhere. There is dining room seating on the bar side, there is seating at the bar, there is patio seating out front, there is dining room seating on the restaurant side. The bar side has televisions mounted in the dining area and over the bar. They all were playing football since it was Sunday. The restaurant/bar is located in a huge mall area, so parking is not an issue. There is a huge lot that it shares with the other business in the mall for you to park. They have some exotic chicken and sides and a small signature cocktail menu that is an expended during the summer. I was almost in tears when I was served the big heap of disappointment that they no longer were serving daiquiris. I decided to sit over in the dining area on the bar side. I wanted some adult hydration to go with my dinner. The bar tender came to my table and took my order. I was not too hungry so I just got some of their Yuca fries and sweet plantains. I took about 10 minutes to get my food. I would say, I was not a fan of the fries. But that is on me. I should have asked questions or did my homework. I thought they would taste like regular fries, but man was I wrong. Yuca is very bland if you were wondering. Anyway, the plantains were very good. Both items came in small portions though. Luckily I was not too hungry. I got a couple of adult beverages to wash down my meal and they were pretty good. The bartender/server was awesome. He was very friendly and helpful.

Lindsey C.

Yelp
There is a takeout and fast food style counter up front but the back is a huge cool bar with a giant selection of whiskeys and bourbons. They had some fun shots, a great pickle back shot on the menu, and a few other neat drink specials. A limited number of beers on tap. Unfortunately the food was pretty mediocre, just not great and kind of forgettable. I definitely feel like this could be a good meet up spot for friends but the food wasn't as good as I hoped it would be.

Kesha T.

Yelp
Went for the arepas, and I'm assuming I should've had the chicken... I tried the pork belly arepa with a side of "Caribbean coleslaw". The arepa for sure needed something to perk it up so I asked if there was a recommended sauce to add. I was given aji amarillo sauce which helped add moisture. The coleslaw needed HELP - it was very bland. The saving grace was the whiskey and service that I received. Mondays are All Day Happy Hour. With their selection, this is a convenient option when interested in trying a new or variety of whiskeys, which I appreciate. I wouldn't mind stopping by again to try their chicken and see if their namesake meets expectations and update my thoughts.

Ashley W.

Yelp
From the name alone I wouldn't have guessed that this place specializes in Peruvian chicken, I was expecting more southern style chicken! I also didn't expect a more casual style restaurant as it's connected to the seating area of the newer pizza joint next door. We came a bit late so they were out of the Mac and cheese but we didn't mind trying some of the other sides. The chicken was very juicy and tasty but my favorite was probably the plantains!

Heidi F.

Yelp
I was looking to try something new while in Columbia running errands and this did not disappoint. The arepa was excellent and a new take being that it was fried. I like the selection of different dishes with the chicken and different toppings. The atmosphere was very nice and they had a bar in another area of the restaurant. The mac and queso dish was good but not something I need to try again. I will definitely be back to try more of the unique and very flavorful menu.

LaToya E.

Yelp
How can you not be a fan when the name of the place are two of my favorite things?! This isn't really a go to place for me as it's out of the way from my normal day to day but any time I'm in the area I pop in. They have fun drinks and good wings, what more could you ask for?!

Ashley M.

Yelp
Went here for Happy Hour. The drinks are so delicious. The Pisco Punch and Strawberry Passion are two of their popular drinks. I ordered the Yuca fries and La Comadre Arepa. The arepa has chicken plantains, cheese and jalapeños. I asked for all the sauces. I'm a sauce girl. The staff is really attentive. I just wish they offered food on the happy hour menu.

Charles M.

Yelp
Listen this name should be changed but I was not a part of the ownership or launch team. I think it's a catchy name but this is a Peruvian chicken spot with a privately labeled whisky. The space is large and I am sure it gets packed at some point in the evening. People love to go to malls and support new businesses. I went for lunch and the price was reasonable. The sides were spicy like really spicy. I will try another side next time. I usually go to the Italian, seafood, or mexican restaurants within walking distance, but I wanted to try something different.

Janelle M.

Yelp
Peruvian with a twist! We enjoyed a deliciously spontaneous lunch including Peruvian chicken, a well-seasoned coleslaw with a kick, a variety of arroz, and my favorite - Nachos poquito wraps! Came for the chicken, but will return for the whiskey (it was a bit too early to drink for me).

Carroll N.

Yelp
5.30.22 My husband and I returned to give it another try after the owner reached out to us after our initial visit because we weren't satisfied with our experience. Today, we arrived around 11:30. I ordered the Borracho wrap and my husband ordered the Pork Belly Arepa and we shared an order of Doughnut Churros. We both loved our entrees. I would rate mine a solid 4.5. My husband doesn't like guacamole, but said it worked in my wrap when he tried a bite. The doughnut took about 20-25 minutes, which seemed like a long time. We thought at most, it should only take 5-10 minutes since they had just opened and it wasn't too busy. We both thought there was too much cinnamon. My husband thought it was too sweet. I brushed off some of the cinnamon and thought it was delicious dipped in the chocolate sauce. It was my first time having churros and I loved it! I would have given my second visit a 5, but because of the long wait, I'm bumping the rating since my last visit to a 4.5 because the food was delicious. We agreed we would come back for the entrees we got today. It was that good.

Melody Y.

Yelp
This restaurant has a casual side and also a dine in/service side near the bar. I decided to sit at the bar and order there. The bar tender was very nice and service was quick. Mondays are happy hour all day! Pineapple old fashion: very sweet but good. Toki Highball: this came with Japanese whiskey and I opted to infuse it with yuzu. I also requested it to be a bit sweeter and it was really good. I'd get this drink again. I shared a whole chicken with 4 sides. This was definitely enough food for 2 people. The chicken was incredibly juicy, salty, and paired really well with the side sauces that were provided. All of the sides were really tasty as well. The plantains were big slices and perfectly sweet.

Karen F.

Yelp
The name is what drew me in, but the food was so good, that's what will bring me back. Typical of many food places today, the menu is on the wall, you order at the front counter and they prepare your tray right in front of you. The restaurant is Peruvian, so be ready for some different seasonings and spices. I got chicken with two sides, yuca fries and their house made guacamole with chips. I love that they give you two different sauces for dipping; I'm a sauce girl. The chicken was so incredibly moist and delicious I couldn't stop wowwing. The guacamole was fantastic, especially with their obviously house-made chips, and you'd be a fool not to get it. The yuca had a nice crunch on the outside while being perfectly soft inside. The hot sauce and the mild sauce were both so flavorful, that I could not decide which was my favorite. My niece had the black bean side dish, and they were some of the best I've ever had. In addition to offering moist towelettes, I loved that they had a hand-washing station in the middle of the restaurant. A nice touch, and necessary after picking chicken. I really loved my meal, and I will definitely return my next trip to Maryland. Besides which - I need to try the whiskey!

Yelp
This is new to Columbia and was headed to brunch at another establishment that will remain nameless and passed this on my way. Decided to call an audible and change the route. Greeted by a pleasant soul who was there to just be that pleasant. She offered to help in anyway she could. She told me the process in the establishment then I was off to the races. Think Chipotle but better. I felt like I could have gotten on the chow line to pick my vessel, my meat, my sides but decided if you go to a place called Chicken and Whiskey you HAVE TO go to the bar. So I did. Ordered a drink called the penicillin and all the happier for it. With 35+ Bourbons, Whiskeys and Scotches on the menu I pick bardstown to be the base of this concoction. The drink was delish. Then I had it neat. Just as tasty. I've talked about the whiskey let me talk about the chicken. YUM LA Comadre is a keeper! But be careful chef. The paper stuck to the arepas. The taste was f-n fabulous and the plantains were a surprising treat. Giving the needed sweet to the spice. It's brunch month. Say that 5x fast but when you can get a new experience under your culinary catalog then that's what you do and I did. C&W see in the next episode!

Yelp
Excited to have a new Peruvian chicken spot in Columbia (the original location is in D.C.)! Overall, we would definitely come back since we live so close by. Chicken: I got the 1/4 white chicken and my husband ordered the 1/2 dark chicken. Overall, we liked it and thought it was flavorful. I would have given my first visit here 5 stars; however, after digging deeper into my chicken, I saw that it was kind of pink (other Peruvian chicken I've had have normally been thoroughly cooked), so for this reason I deducted 1 star. I'm a picky eater and get easily grossed out by pink chicken, but I just ate around it). My husband's dark meat chicken was also a little pink. Sides: We tried various sides, and they all tasted great! We ordered the Arroz Congri, Black Beans, Yuca Fries, Sweet Plantains, and Guasacaca Chips. My favorite would have to be the Guasacaca Chips - the guac tasted fresh, and I loved the hint of lime. The chips came in a bag and they were all broken into small pieces (not sure if that was the style they were going for, but it made it hard to dip them in the guac). Sweet plantains were delicious (save it as your dessert); didn't ask for the syrup that usually comes with it because it's already sweet without it. My only complaint was that the portion of some of the sides was very small (example: only 5 pieces of yuca). Drinks: My husband got the Pineapple Old Fashioned Botellita. He said it was okay and was mostly Jim Bean and you couldn't really taste the pineapple, so it tasted just like a regular old fashioned. They do have better and more whiskey options at the bar. I sampled the Kool-Aid Caliente and was not a fan of it, but some may like the spicy kick to it! Location: right across AMC and next to Walrus. This replaced Urban Plates, so the interior is pretty similar. It still has the industrial look, and the order line counter is basically the same (you start your order on the left side and pay / pick up your order on the right end).

Yelp
Cool ambiance and I guess I can see the Peruvian tie-in but it's not what I was expecting/hoping for when looking for Peruvian food. If chicken is your gig and you like whisky, hey give it a shot (ha ha). No real service to speak of, staff is cool but it's a fast-food counter so keep that in mind.

Yelp
A new Peruvian fast casual joint that replaced Urban Plates, Chicken+Whiskey includes all the hallmarks of the South American poultry craze. The main dishes there are the Peruvian chicken (in 1/4, 1/2, or whole) plus two sides. They also have cocktails/signature mixed drinks on tap which was pretty cool. Not too bad, the chicken was tender and juicy, yuca fries and fried rice were a great complement to the meal. There are three sauces; the yellow sauce, picante, and bbq. I had the yellow and picante, both were great for adding flavors to the chicken and sides. Unfortunately I wish they weren't so stingy with the yuca and chicken (They only gave me 5 pieces of yuca....) As good as this place is, I believe Sardi's down in Beltsville still reigns supreme as the all-time best Peruvian chicken in Maryland. However, Chicken+Whiskey offers a palatable alternative when I can't be bothered to drive all the way to PG county.

Yelp
Cool spot to hang out in the bar area. They have a vast selection of whiskey plus specialty drinks. I tried the strawberry old fashioned which was strong but nothing to rave about. I'll stick with the classic. I had a half dark chicken with beans and chaufa(sp.), everything was good! I wish they had more variety of sauces. Also, the guacamole was really good. The service was just ok but the food came out extremely fast. I saw a DJ booth in there so I'm sure It gets pretty lit in there on late nights.

Yelp
Well this is a nice concept, it's pretty decent inside and very clean, I got the pollo brassa and it was inedible. It was so incredibly salty I couldn't eat it and the lemonade tasted like pine-sol smells! If I didn't have to go back to work I would've taken it back. I was supremely disappointed in the food. I don't know about the alcohol selection but I probably won't be back to check out. I would also like to point out that the sour cream is salty as well. It almost tastes like an overly salty ranch dressing. If you like food with a little added high blood pressure then you should definitely check this place out. If you go and get drinks (libations) let me know how they are, but stay away from the chemical-ade, I mean lemonade!

Yelp
I tried this place for the first time since I like Peruvian food and it's conveniently at the mall. The interior looked very modern and clean. I ordered the 1/4 chicken dark meat with yuca fries and arroz chaufa. I also decided to add on the roasted corn tomato since I read on the menu that it's .99 to add-on. The employees were very nice and showed me what the options I had for sides were, since I wasn't very familiar. I just wish there were labels on the sides and such, so I could match the menu/names with the sides. I was a little thrown off by the price because it was more expensive than I expected. It came out to around $16. I think the cashier charged me for rice as an extra side instead of the corn. I didn't want to make a fuss so I just paid for it. The chicken was tasty, but some parts were dry and a little bland. The parts that were moist were also tender and the skin is really where all the flavor is. I enjoyed the sauces that came along with it-- one creamy and the other spicy. The corn tomato was good but I honestly could've done without it. Corn wasn't that sweet and the corn texture was a little dry. I was also hoping it would taste more roasted/smoky. The arroz chaufa was good, I didn't have any complaints about it. The yuca fries were my favorite side. I honestly didn't expect to like it that much, but it was very satisfying to eat. I also tried a bite of some Mac and cheese and it's pretty good. I would rather go to an authentic/mom n pop shop for Peruvian food, but I'm not opposed to coming back to try other things here, like the arepas. Maybe a drink too!

Yelp
I chose this for our monthly lunch and my friend was enthusiastic as she has been wanting to try it for some time. Parking is ample and free and for once google maps brought me right to it! (It's usually dismal at navigation in mall parking lots.) I decided on the Mac n' Queso con Pollo bowl; I seldom eat pasta but it just sounded like a good thing to try instead of what I always get at chicken places. The server put a full, large scoop and half of another into the bowl. There followed a layer (a little skimpy) of shredded chicken, two small plantains cut into four chunks each, a few fresh jalapeño slices, a very small sprinkle of bacon bits, a large spoonful of a corn relish (diced red onion, cilantro) and a good dollop of the picante sauce. I asked for sour cream and it was actually crema, a decorative squeeze over top. So it was a heaping bowl, but my disappointment stemmed from how little chicken there was. I only ate about half of the pasta, although it was deliciously creamy and cheesy. I almost forgot - I actually quite like jalapeño when it has flavor and not just a burn. The slices I got were not flavorful at all - just hot! My friend got a quarter of dark meat chicken, some salad and some corn. She said it was all good, but basically the same as at any of the other pollo braso places we've eaten. We opted to sit outside since it was a lovely day, and we hoped quieter than inside. Sadly, the music being played was a bit louder so we had to really speak up to hear each other. Also, about 3/4 of the way through our meal, we started having little, buzzing visitors. I am really not fond of yellow jackets and they were determined to get our food! So all in all, it was OK and even with a bottled soda, my check was under $20. I just know we won't be back.

Yelp
Friday Night Dining with #thoseWilliams ‍‍: Parent's night out! Tonight 12/29/23 : We visited @chickenandwhiskey at the Mall in Columbia. It's a Peruvian chicken restaurant with a bar as well. Donell ‍went to an influencer event recently and really enjoyed it, so I ‍had to try it. This spot is cute and is also family friendly. But once you go to the bar side it is very grown & sexy. Dinner Highlights the chicken was juicy and flavorful with the sauces provided. the Caribbean slaw was a refreshing contrast to some of the spiciness Peperanata criollo which was a spicy mixture of peppers & onions. We added rice & beans to it and it was Delicious! arepas & nachos paquito Churro Doughnuts with a chocolate drizzle - yummmy!! cocktails - birthday suit ‍& disco Diablo ‍ Service was friendly, but also very busy. Overall we enjoyed the visit. Where to next?!?!

Yelp
This is my third time at Chicken + Whiskey. I like the food here because is different. There is no place like it near Columbia MD. The Arepa are my favorite dish from here. The Bar is great. They have a great selection of Whiskey. My favorite drink is the old fashioned with Four Roses Whiskey. If you are in the mood for chicken and Whiskey, I definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
Quick, affordable, and delicious food. Chicken + Whiskey is this bizarre amalgamation of a restaurant. Food is ordered and prepared quickly like a Chipotle, but the flavor and quality is something way above typical fast food. They serve alcohol, with a full bar and mixed drinks on tap. Nothing about Chicken + Whiskey is predictable and it makes it a wonderful experience regardless on what kind of meal you're in the mood for. Chicken + Whiskey serves Peruvian dishes, which mostly consist of roasted meats served in Peruvian bread or on Peruvian rice. Plenty of sides ranging from savory, sweet, and salty. Peruvian dishes aren't spicy, nor do they hit particularly strong sour notes, instead, prepare for well seasoned meats and veggies. Plantains and Yucca Fries are my favorite sides, adding some nice crunch to the soft chicken. They have dipping sauces, one of which does have some spicy kick to it. The alcoholic drink variety is astonishing, and their blended iced drinks offer equal parts sweet, refreshing, and knock-you-on-the-floor loaded with whiskey. Chicken + Whiskey promises two things, and overdelivers on both of them!

Yelp
I love Chicken and Whiskey family meal. This is my go to place when I want a healthy delicious meal for my family. The chicken is always cooked to perfection and juicy. The service is excellent as the staff members are always polite and friendly. I wish however the sides were bigger as a family the sides aren't big enough for the 4 of us. The place is clean and inviting and family friendly

Yelp
I've been looking forward to try out this new place at the Columbia mall, so I came for lunch today. I got the pork belly arepa, and I thought that it was just ok, nothing spectacular. The bread was a bit hard, and the pork was fried ahead of time, so it kinda hard too. I think that fried items would be better if they were made to order instead of sitting around in a warmer. Maybe I should have ordered something else instead. The good things about the place is that they are new, clean and spacious! They offer a wide selections of items such as roasted chicken, salads, wraps, desserts and spirited beverages. I love that they have a hand washing station for costumers. I wish them the very best in success as a new business!

Yelp
I had my doubts after my first introduction to Chicken + Whiskey was their speakeasy-turned-club in DC. Can a business have good drinks AND good affordable food AND be known as a nightlife destination? Turns out the answer is yes. A welcome addition to the Columbia area, C+W serves affordable Peruvian-style and -inspired food in a casual setting. Whole chickens, frijoles, plantains, arepas, burritos. They also have a anything-you-can ask for whiskey bar located in their second room, a more moody ambient setting. It's not a speakeasy, but it's one of the only late night spots in downtown Columbia, so it counts lol. I've tried a handful of items from the menu, but I keep going back to the La Comadre. Absolutely delicious, with a surprise plantain inside too. My favorite drink is the Bitcoin Becky - perfect if you're looking for a sweeter option.

Yelp
The food here is very flavorful and delicious, I loved the fact that I could see them pick my chicken and slice my portion in front of me. The server ask had I been there and once they learned that this was my first time They were gracious enough to put some samples with my meal as well as educating me about all the offerings available and every item I sampled was delicious.. I had the 1/4 white chicken , plantains that was cooked the way that I love them firm , browned and sweet , and arroza congri ( black beans and rice ) with samples Of the yuca fries , arepitas ( fried crackling in corn flour) , Caribbean coleslaw and black beans. Every single sample was good! I truly can't wait to get back and try some more items as well as visit the bar side for Happy hour specials. They have a whiskey that they make As well as signature cocktails. The ambience is lively without being obnoxious. They even have a hand wash station which I love because sometimes hand sanitizer ain't it lol there is also outside seating.

Yelp
Surprisingly good. Arepas were quite large. The carne, chicken, and pork belly was all delicious. Only complaint is the cane sugar syrup on the plantains. Why?!? But very good. Would go back.

Yelp
Ok Chicken + Whiskey. I've had it door dashed quite a few and it was excellent. Food is just so yummy! And I can feed my family for $25 which is pretty great. I saw an ad pop up on my fb for $7 daiquiri's! I mean...need I say more?! 3 stars because for the first time I visited the establishment in person, service is lacking. If you sit at the bar and need a minute to look over the menu, they'll give you 25 minutes and you'll have to flag someone down. I specifically asked for a happy hour old fashioned; on the menu it's listed for $8. I was later charged $32 for two old fashioned's. I felt unseen sitting less than 3 feet from the bar trying to get anyones attention to simply place an order. We were finally able to place an order and another 30 minutes my food comes out and it was entirely wrong. I asked for 1/4 dark chicken dinner with two sides (plantains and chaufa rice) instead I received 1/4 chicken white meat with a cucumber salad and rice with black beans. It of course was replaced. Just a bit inconvenient after already waiting to be served. The Mac and cheese was delish, the chicken is superb. The cucumber salad left something to be desired. Presentation was nice though! And the daiquiris honestly tasted like syrup. I know daiquiris are a sweet drink, but this was extremely sweet. I had to wait for the ice to melt to enjoy it. Our bill was $78 for two (supposedly $8) old fashioned's, 2 daiquiris a kids meal with Mac and cheese, and a 1/4 chicken dark meat. The bartenders barely attended to us, barely looked our way, completely botched my order, and over charged our drinks. I guess I'll stick to door dash when I want chicken + whiskey...I know what I'm paying for, the food is good, and my door dasher pays better attention to detail! I thrive on good customer service, it goes such a long way! I hope it gets better.

Yelp
First I came here after wine and the woods with my mom and my sister. My mom ordered for us and got 2 whole chickens with 3 sides. The chicken was so good cooked just right with the sauces they give I couldn't decide which one was better. The sides were black beans, plantains, and cucumber salad. Honestly did not care for any of the sides like they added something extra to the black beans which is no need. I don't eat plantains but my sister seemed to like them. The cucumber salad was okay just didn't care for the peanuts in them. I didn't take any pics of the food. Came back a 2nd time but during bar hours. They don't have much on this menu and even the bartender flat out told us not everything is great on the bar menu basically only the la comadre is worth it which it definitely was so freakin good that will probably be my go to every time I come. I also got the bing bong cocktail, for the first round it tasted like a pink lemonade then the 2nd round all you tasted was the liquor. I don't know what I was thinking when the restaurant is called chicken & whiskey but I thought at least they would have a better option for tequila. Urban place use to be here I'm going to miss it but it's okay Chicken & Whisky has happy hour all day on mondays.

Yelp
I just had lunch there. It's a fairly good meal. I had some specialty, "La Comadre" it was called. it was fairly flavorful, although certainly not great. Counting can of Diet Coke, the bill was around $14. I went there with a large group of friends, and most of us seem to have an enjoyable time.

Yelp
Great food and service! I've dined at the location in DC and was excited when I noticed a new location by my house. It's a great addition to the restaurants in Columbia. Food: ~1/4 White Meat Chicken = 10/10 | Juicy, crispy skin, and flavorful ~Side of Guac/Plantain Chips = 10/10 | Probably one of the guacs I've ever had! Super flavorful and fresh ~White Rice & Black Beans = 6/10 | Rice is straightforward, and the beans had almost a discreet sweetness to them which was a bit odd ~Kid Chicken with Plaintain Fries and Queso Mac n Cheese = 7/10 | My daughter enjoyed the chicken and fries but the Mac and cheese got pretty hard ~Churro Doughnuts = 9/10 | Pretty tasty, light, and the perfect combo of a doughnut and churro!
