Oklahoma smash burger brings back memories!!!! At least once a week I’m in the Wst 4 area. I always pass by this Chicken Hawk place telling myself I’ll check it out. So today was the day. What pulled me in was their street advertisement. Very simple design with a picture of the burger or sandwich of the month. Now I could be wrong but I believe they do theme every month. Anyhow let’s get to the sandwich. This months theme was the Oklahoma smashed burger. This burger is a wet mess! But in a really good way. I had these juicy beef patties flooded with onions and cheese. No hamburger bun here, they use rolls. And of course like a real hamburger from the east coast this thing has grease oozing everywhere. If you’re into health food you’ve probably gained 200 calories just by reading the description. But if you like authentic made to order hamburgers this is the place. The Fries.. The fries were seasoned well and not overly cooked. Crispy on the outside soft on the inside. House sauce(special sauce) By now everybody knows the secret to everyone’s secret sauce. However Chicken Hawks sauce has a very nice look to it. The staff To me the most important thing is when a restaurant acknowledges you when you come in. And that box was checked. They’re very attentive and will give you an estimate on how long your order will take without you asking. The place is not fancy. So if you’re taking a hot date here I wouldn’t recommend. However if she insist then she’s probably a keeper. My Rating 1-10 Burger :8 Fries: 7 Service: 9 Place: 6

The Chick-fil-A killer is here. Crispy and delicious fried thigh sandwich. I'd go mild instead of medium next time to let the chicken come through more, but it is nearly perfect. Hope it stays around a long time.

The sign outside caught my eye so I can to check it out. Best move I made on that Wednesday evening. Justin directed me to order the best double cheese burger I’ve had in a few months. Loaded with caramelized onions and their burger sauce. I barely had room for the tater tot’s. I’ll be coming back for sure. I ate the food too fast to get a good photo :)

Update: They have permanently closed. This may be one of the best little known places in The West Village that is about to be history after just a few months. Unfortunately they are barely ever open which makes no sense at all when you are trying to build a new business. Stopped by today and was shocked and dismayed to see that they now only offer small but tasty sliders in either fried boneless chicken or beef at $3.50. While it's great as a quick snack, I felt that just did not hit the mark Unfortunately their signature and in my opinion best item, the spicy chicken sandwiches are no longer being offered. They set the bar pretty high with their original menu and it's now just down to 4 mediocre items. Why mess with perfection? A bit of mystery to be honest. Word from the owner Ken is that it was just meant as a temporary pop-up and they will be closing down for good within a week. Try it while you can!

Google
Really delicious sandwich! I'm not sure I would call it "Nashville-style" hot chicken, since they season with dry spices on top instead of the traditional bath of chili oil. But it is definitely hot chicken. Their "very hot" spice level had my eyes watering. Recommended!

When going into this restaurant, I had no expectations. when me and my boyfriend walked by, we talked about going there if our original plans didn’t work out. And guess what? They didn’t work out. And to be honest with you google users? I am so glad our plans didn’t work out. This chicken sandwich was delicious. It was crispy and the pickles complemented the flavoring so well. It was so good, that when I got up to buy a water, my boyfriend had finished his while I was simply 2 bites in. I would for sure go back here.

The Oklahoma burger was one of the best burgers I've ever had and I ate it nearly an hour after I bought it, after bringing it home on the subway. I basically inhaled it and didn't have time to take a picture. I immediately had to come leave a review. Paid $11 for a burger and tater tots. Tater tots are also good but that burger really is something else.

Google
Did I order a chicken sandwich or become a Grammy award winning hip hop artist? Because after eating the first bite I was spitting fire. It’s for real a better chicken sandwich than any national fast food chain and better than any I’ve had in a restaurant so far. They have 6 levels of spice to choose from —which I wish all places that sell spicy chicken sandwich’s would have. It’s about time sandwiches are treated like their wing brothers. They say you are what you eat and I now have proof that’s true. I got the Dumb*** level. Dear lord, forget CityMD, pay 8 bucks, clear your sinuses and get a chicken sandwich instead of a copay.

Yelp
My partner and I decided to do a chicken tendy and sandwich tour this past weekend and stumped upon Chickenhawk. I really hope more folks find out about this place because it was one of the best chicken thigh sandos I've had in a really long time! Maybe even NYC. The chicken itself was so juicy, flavorful and had the right amount of crunch to meat ratio. It was our first time, so we went conservatively with the "hot" spice level, but next time I'm def going for "dumb ass" haha. The sauce on the sando was also sublime as well! The guys working there were super friendly and chill (shout out to the extra tots and a sample of the slaw). One thing to note is that the spot can be fairly easy to miss as there is currently scaffolding right above and it is literally the first shop right out of the West 4th subway stop (so many will prob go right past it). Do yourself a favor and try one of their sandos next time you are craving some fried chicken goodness! I know I'll be back and even try some of their tenders and other items.

Yelp
Some very good hot chicken at a very no-frills spot across from the West 4th St courts. They've clearly invested nothing in branding, menu design and decor, but most importantly the food is very good. The Chicken Sandwich is excellent (we tried just Medium heat for a pleasant experience), and the Chicken Nuggets are super juicy. The fries are also really good, making this a great stop for a quick bite.

Yelp
Really solid food that's just outside the subway. It's not really a place to dine in, but there are two small tables there. The chicken was extremely juicy and the service was great.

Yelp
The chicken sandwich here slaps, it's juicy, tender and delicious. I was trying to find this place in google map but I couldn't find it by the name and I passed by and found it. I've been to nashville and it reminded me of their chicken sandwiches over there. This has to be one of the best chicken sandwich spots in nyc. It's right by the train station so I didn't walk too far to get here and there was no line by the time I got here. will be back soon!

Yelp
Update to menu: - there is only one size option for the sandwich now, which costs $6.50, with the option to add cheese for an additional dollar - they also now have chicken wings on the menu ($6.50)

Yelp
Unreal. Juicy chicken and the smash burger is one of the best in nyc. This place is a hit.

Yelp
Moved to NYC from OK in ' 90 for college & have been craving a place with a true authentic Oklahoma "onion burger" ever since. I FINALLY found it! While "smashburgers" are all the rage & derived from the onion-burger, most don't have the saturated onion flavor. This place gets its right - piling long strands over the burger during the entire grilling process. It's greasy (in a good way) and nicely seasoned. Highly recommended for those looking for the full authentic Oklahoma onion flavor.

Yelp
The cheeseburger with grilled onions was outstanding. It was everything a juicy burger is supposed to be. It is now on my list as one of my Crave foods. Simple menu only 3 items. Cant wait to go back.

Yelp
I walked by Chicken Hawk yesterday and was surprised: I live in the neighborhood and pass by here every second day or so and hadn't noticed it. Having just been to Nashville where I ate at some of the best hot chicken spots, I was curious about Chicken Hawk, so I went there the next day after first noticing it. I was pleasantly surprised: it's really excellent. You name your spice level, so you know everything is made to order (including the fries). The chicken comes on a brioche bun which is soft and, mostly importantly, un-intrusive, letting the chicken speak for itself--which was tender and flavorful. I'll likely be a regular here.

Yelp
Amazing spot for a spicy fried chicken! They also have wings and tots, you can never go wrong with that combo! Definitely worth checking out and enjoy!

Tanner L.

Yelp
Still great!! And they lowered the price on the sandwiches, too. Surprised there's not a line out the door yet.

Yelp
Outstanding food. Chicken sandwich is soft and tender and burger is on point. The fries were hot, seasoned, and not the least bit greasy

Yelp
Hilariously bad name for a chicken place but excellent hot chicken sandwich. Definitely coming back

Yelp
I'm not big on Fried chicken but OMG! This is the best fried chicken I've ever had! The sandwich was so good (I got the "Hot") that I had to get the nuggets as well. Everything is sooooo good! It's my new favorite place!

Yelp
Great food and the best chicken sandwich in the West Village. Just recently opened and the owner was a pleasure to talk to, highly recommend!

Yelp
Worse chicken sandwich I ever had in NYC. The chicken is most definitely filled with hormones due to the fact that it is impossible to chew. It was so hard to bite into the chicken that I had to discard my entire sandwich. Wasted meal. Please consider better chicken vendors or this will not last long among other competitors.

John R.

Yelp
I just had the Oklahoma Smashburger and it is the juiciest and tastiest burger that I have ever had in my life. I was just as impressed with their chicken sandwich. I highly recommend Chickenhawk.

Yelp
Good fried chicken place. Tender chicken thigh with chunks of fatcrisp breading. Would have been better with thicker breading though.

Zach W.

Yelp
Place is not much to lock at, but the burger is one of the best in the city. Fries are crispy and tasty too.

Rafy A.

Yelp
Sooooo good! Top 3 chicken sandwiches I've ever had! Fries are amazing as well, they're nice and crispy with a cajun styled seasoning. Definitely recommend!

Phillip A.

Yelp
The chicken sandwich is everything you want and more. Fries solid, coleslaw banging!

David B.

Yelp
The chicken is juicy and way better than Chick-fil-A/Popeyes. Get the pimento cheese!

P R.

Yelp
Just like in Nashville. perfectly seasoned. Buttered and grilled buns great sauce and of course pickles. Be careful with hot rubs and I suggest you avoid dumbass level... unless u want to prove u are a hero.
