Ditas, the Much-Hyped Waterfront Restaurant With Roots in New Delhi, Is Finally Debuting in Marin | Eater SF

"I noticed that Chico Marx recently opened inside an office tower in South San Francisco, serving Spanish-Californian fare with flavors from the Latin American diaspora, including tempranillo-braised short ribs, Bolinas black cod, and appetizers like patatas bravas and Catalan flatbread; the restaurant is managed by Bon Appetit Management Company." - Dianne de Guzman

I fell in love with this restaurant on a recent work trip and ended up eating there 3x! The menu is so interesting that I wanted to try everything. And everything was delicious. I brought colleagues with me each time and we recommend everything we had: breakfast burrito; calamari, olives, croquettes on the happy hour menu; little gem and arugula salads; vegetarian wrap; soup; and (perfect) guacamole. Shout out to Tessa for noticing that I was a repeat customer and being so welcoming, and to Chef for coming to say hello! Prices are very reasonable, especially for San Francisco, and the vibe is cool, down to earth, comfortable. This place gets it all right.

I liked the interior of this place, classy and modern. The parking situation was interesting, I parked in one hour, others parked in the garage up the hill. The restaurant was pretty empty, but still we didn’t get a lot of service. Early on our drinks came quickly but then we were kind of ignored. No big deal, we were lost in conversation. The potatoes, plantains, empanadas were all very tasty. The margaritas were pretty standard, nothing special not particularly strong either. But then the churros? Real weird. Maybe the oil was old or too hot? Not sure but we didn’t even finish them. And honestly, I’ve never met a churro I didn’t like (and then immediately devour while trying not to burn my mouth). That was disappointing. Maybe an off day. This place is clearly for people just finishing work in the office building, it’s a nice place but probably wouldn’t make the trip out again.

This places is like a Michelin restaurant the food here is so good!😁 I got a burger and let me tell you it’s so good 5 stars!

Wanted to try this location when Yelp recommended. It’s under these office buildings close by the freeway on 101 and Cafe de Casa. We were seated right away and we ordered: fried Calamari as appetizers, lomo saltado, Huachinango al ajillo (fried fish), and pollo con tajadas. We also ordered drinks, their house margarita and their hibiscus mule. Their food was not bad, and their drinks were ok. Not as strong as we would like but ok. However, to be honest, their portions is not that big especially if you are big eater. FYI.

Google
Shrimp tacos and Ceviche were amazing, good presentation, tasty and the size of the portion was perfect. Nice place in SSF to share with friends, the location has parking so it is an advantage.

Google
Love everything about this place!!! Chef Jose recipes are delicious. Manager and service are great. The young guy at the bar made us feel so welcome and drinks were yummy! I do recommend this place.

Loved the food and the vibe. Nice ambient.

Google
Overdue review - came here for a board dinner. Beautiful spacious comfortable space. The food was really good! Want to go back when they have the cauliflower main dish back - it was delicious! Didn't really have enough room to do the delicious desserts justice - another reason to go back. Unfortunately they close at 7pm due to being in a office building space. There's an underground path to the parking garage - it's a little tricky to figure out but it's there. It is a bit of a walk - might want to drop off the rest of your party at the restaurant first before parking.

Yelp
Located on first floor of SSF office building, Latin American tapas bar with upbeat vibes and bold flavors. Every dish comes out beautifully plated -- from zesty ceviche to smoky empanadas. Excellent happy hour selections. Great for sharing plates with friends or a casual date night. Check their hours before going. Parking is either on left side or straight up to garage.

Yelp
Chico Marx is a pretty nice, modern place serving small bites, larger meals, and drinks. Located in South SF on ground level in a corporate building, Chico Marx is catered more to people who work in the area. Open weekdays only. I recommend the tacos dorados (braised pork, cheese, jalapeño, cilantro, salsa verde) and the croquettes (yucca, cheese, pepper aioli). Portions are on the smaller side, and drinks are just ok. Service is friendly and food/drinks come out pretty quickly. I've been twice during happy hour, and the selection is good and pricing is reasonable.

Yelp
Chico Marx is a South City treasure (they're under the same Bon Appétit umbrella as Foundry & Lux at The Cove and Chandlery at the Shore at Sierra Point). Always a deliciously good time whether it's lunch, dinner, or Happy Hour. Tucked away at 2 Tower Place (off Sister Cities Blvd & Airport), there's abundant parking--especially in the garage with free EV chargers on Level 2. From there, follow the clear signs guiding you to Chico Marx. The surface lot is closer but likely full of the business plaza's employees. Chic biotech vibe with a stunning oak bar, floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Oyster Point and the Bay, and cozy seating for any mood: intimate booths for lowkey date night, plush lounges for post-work debriefs with colleagues, or watch the game at the bar with friends (2 TV's!) and vibe with Anthony, the resident mixologist, as he crafts your killer cocktail. Service is usually attentive, sometimes a bit slow depending on staffing, but always kind and never rushed. This polished gem serves up posh vibes, unique cocktails, and sustainably sourced ingredients for their seasonal Latin American bites. Highly Recommend: * Tacos Dorados (my FLAVORITE!) * Ceviche de Pescado * And a double order of Short Rib Empanadas and Patatas Bravas--get two each, IT'S THAT GOOD. Catch Happy Hour: * Tues-Fri, 3pm to close. Grab a Smoke N Spice (mezcal, ancho reyes chile liqueur, lime, jalapenos, soda) or share a Pepino Punch carafe (vodka, cucumber, lemon, agave, soda, cucumber salt). Cheers & Happy Taco Tuesday!

Yelp
Had dinner here with my two loves and we had such an amazing dinner. Not only because we were hungry after work, but because the food was just that good and beautifully presented! From appetizers to entrees to desserts, 10/10!! Everything that we ordered was delicious, you name it, it was yummy. Our drinks were especially good and the vibe in there is just oh so sophisticated! The servers were also friendly and continued to check on us often. Parking was no issue as there is a lot, which I was told was free after 4pm. And if not the lot, there's a garage up the ramp.

Yelp
Beautiful venue. Literally amazing view of the bay and the interior and everything about the place is gorgeous. This is situated in the heart of biotech so makes sense why the prices are high and the feel is very luxurious. I think overall the food was great, portions were a bit small considering the price. My only issue with this place, and it's my biggest pet peeve, was the service. I was served a flat beer, and waiter helped but seemed confused. All the staff seemed confused and not very warm and slightly busy and even though we were 1/3 parties there.

Yelp
Wow what a surprising location for a great happy hour spot. My friend and I came on a Tuesday evening before going to see the new Wicked movie. The restraunt is sleek with gorgeous modern interiors that suit its corporate park location well. You can tell most guests were coming from the office buildings upstairs for a post work happy hour. We got a pitcher of margaritas for $30 which is an amazing price for the Bay Area. We also tried the croquettes which were amazingly cheesy. The ceviche was nice and refreshing with a generous portion, and the tacos el dorado were filled to the brim with meat. I'd highly recommend this place for happy hour. The staff was also super attentive. Our waters were constantly being refilled and staff checked in multiple times to ensure our dining experience was going well.

Yelp
Id describe the food as traditional but with a slight twist. Everything was pretty good and flavorful. Pros: Short rib empanadas: full of meet which was cooked just right and had lots of flavor. The bread was soft, light, and fluffy. I really enjoyed the sauce they had to go on it, paired really well. Lomo saltado: meet and potatoes were nice and tender, deliciously seasoned, and weren't dry. The rice it comes with was also yummy. I really enjoyed it but not the best I've had. Cons: Killer bee cocktail: not really impressed. It was not ascetically pleasing nor was it tasty. Just tasted plain. Decided not to order any more drinks. Came on a windy rainy day and the parking is not convenient. Not practical at all. This is more of a spot for the corporate people to walk down and have lunch.

Yelp
It's a little hidden gem that we found in SSF. We really enjoyed the service; great ambiance and food. Will definitely come back for Happy Hour.

Yelp
Wanted to try this location when it was recommended to me. There is parking outside since it's like an office building the restaurant is located. We were seated right away and we ordered: fried calamari as appetizers, lomo saltado, huachinango al ajillo (fried fish), and pollo con tajadas. We also ordered their house margarita and their hibiscus mule. Their food was not bad. Tasty and their drinks were ok. Not strong as we would like but ok. Their service was amazing. Even the bartender helped with our drink order. However, to be honest, their portions were not that big especially if you are big eaters. FYI .

Yelp
Came here after a svc for a our friend, more people joined us than expected. The staff was great and patient with everyone, everyone loved the food and space. I would highly recommend.

Yelp
We tried out this spot for happy hour - many of the food items on the happy hour menu aren't on the regular menu so we ended up going with what our server recommended - short rib empanadas and Brussels sprouts with honey chile lime from the regular menu, as well as the beef tacos from the happy hour menu. I liked the short rib empanadas with the chimichuri sauce and my mezcal drink. The Brussels sprouts were too sweet, and the dip for the beef tacos was too spicy. $12 for 2 tacos also didn't seem like a good happy hour deal. We noticed on our bill we were not charged the happy hour price for our Hefeweizen so they adjusted it for us.

Yelp
Really happy they finally opened since it's very close to a lot of the offices in the area and provides a really convenient option for lunch. The interior is warm and casual both a big 12-seat table and full bar. Food was good too!

Yelp
Wow, the North Peninsula gets an upgrade! Located in South San Francisco at the base of one of the worlds leading science centers is Chico Marx. Brand new to town (just opened up this week). The location is suburban-urban with easy parking both in the surface lot next door and in the on-site parking garage. Once inside you'll find all polished concrete floors, open exposed ceilings all matched with wood, leather and iron treatments throughout. To the left is lounge style seating. To the right you'll find a grouping deep comfortable booths along with well spaced table top seating. In the middle, yet uniquely independent, is a family style table for up to 12, made of gorgeous reclaimed wood. What a great place to entertain. The room is crowned with a 12 person bar top. And if you are particular in your selections you won't be disappointed. As a Spanish/Latin American based restaurant you'll find their tequila selection especially strong. Hint: don't pass up the Siete Laguas for your skinny margarita. The food selections roll from irresistible Small Bites through refreshing Salads into warm comfort food Entrees. For lunch I had the mixed green salad and the grilled cheese. Sounds kind of boring until your see that they use manchego and goat cheese topped with truffle aioli. Yum! You get the point, ever dish here is just an "extra bit special". Their Tempranillo Braised Short Rib looked amazing too. Highly recommend the drive to Chico Marx.

Yelp
My wife and I have been meaning to stop by this place for a while - especially because we're mere minutes away from it. Finally had an opportunity to stop by today and we're extremely glad we did. Happy hour was calling our name so we got a couple of rounds of wine & got some bites to go along with it (croquettes & mushroom quesadilla). Our verdict is... drumroll - an absolute must to come back again & again & again! The unexpected added bonus was the chivalrous service from Zair - and we eventually got to briefly meet Pamela. @Management in case you're reading this - kudos for hiring excellent human beings. The only gripe that we have about this place is that they don't close at later hours. But hey! We empathize with those who work there because they also need their time off :)

Yelp
The food and staff were outstanding. The short rib empanadas were super tasty, and all the appetizers we tried were delicious as well. Great atmosphere and decor. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
What a wonderful restaurant. It was such an open airy place and had lots of ambience. The staff was so conscientious, friendly, and professional all at the same time. I had the shrimp and heirloom tomato salad, which was outstanding. My lunch partner had the burrito special along with the passionfruit guava cocktail. Also delicious. We were able to take our time and enjoy the beautiful surroundings around us. We will definitely come back for dinner and try the Lomo Saltado. I give this my highest rating of A+.

Yelp
Wow! Wow! Wow! Saw this place in open table. Decided to try it out!! Pure deliciousness!! The ambiance is beautiful and welcoming. Our server was kind and attentive. Ohhh and my husband ordered the sangria... wow! Kudos to the chef and bartender!

Yelp
Overall 5/5: this place is a hidden gem. I went on a Thursday around 6 and was dead. Not sure why, because this place slaps!! Do not go to the hotel restaurant, come here. Worth it!! Food: 5/5. Was fantastic. So much flavor and tasted exactly what you would think. The Croquetas were out of this world, chowed them down in seconds. Then the lomo saltado was great, little over done on the meat but so much flavor. Drink: 5/5 was great, probably too goo because it went down so easily! Service: 5/5 nothing to complain about here, was very good. Bartender very attentive food came out fast. Very pleased. Ambiance: 5/5 inside looked great! Not sure why no one was there but very stylish.

Yelp
First time going to Chico Marx and all I can say is WOW AMAZING, not only because the service was great but the food was so delicious . Starting with the home made Guacamole with chips, the ribs empanadas , following a good salad and salmon ceviche to finish with the best Pollo con tajadas and delicious ice cream. Will definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
Scrumptious An epic place for a team meeting or a mixer an the most convenient location.

Yelp
Chico Marx is a beautiful Latin American/Spanish restaurant located right off the 101 s. in South San Francisco. There is plenty of free parking available for guest which makes dining here super convenient. The dishes here are exceptionally fresh and tasty. We started with the house made guacamole, salsa and chips, tuna ceviche and short beef empanadas. All dishes mouthwatering! Later we ordered the little gem salad with shrimp and the pollo en tajadas which is a weekly special :) needless to say, both extremely delicious! We ended with the strawberry sorbet, which is very light and yummy to top off our evening. The service is A1! From being greeted all the way through our entire dining experience. The servers are very friendly and professional as well as the Manager and Chef. I definitely recommend stopping by for lunch or dinner at this beautiful space!! :)

Yelp
I'm going solid four stars. Food was mostly very good - a few dishes needed more punch. Food is very pretty. Service was friendly and relaxed. Place was empty when we went mid-afternoon so it was quiet. Menu has several good options and we love small plates. Prices reflect the building - expensive. I'm hoping the staff is well paid at those prices!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is fairly new, it's been open for 6 months. The interior is super nice. Clean and chic. When I arrived I was greeted my Cortney, who is amazing. Very friendly and accommodating! I started off with drinks, by far my favorite was the Mexican spritz. For started I had the ceviche, Croquetas, short rib empanadas and a Caesar salad with salmon. All very delicious. For my entree I had the fish sandwich, braised Mary's chicken and the lomo saltado which was my favorite dish of the day! Ended with something sweet of course. The house made watermelon sorbet was UNREAL. The churros with chocolate was also tasty but the sorbet stole the show. Definitely will be back for the pretty view, spectacular service and delicious food :)

Yelp
I went to Chico Marx for lunch with a friend. Given the location, I had very low expectations, but I was completely wrong. This place serves some delicious Latin food. The appetizer wasn't okay, nothing special, but the entree was delicious. My friend and I ordered Gazpacho to share. We also got 2 entrees - pescado al Ajillo & Lomo saltado. Lomo Saltado was very flavorful. The fries and the meat were soaked in the sauce. Fries were soft, and meat was tender. Cilantro rice was also very flavorful and aromatic. Fish was crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and it had a nice flavor, too. The place was empty when we went there on a Friday afternoon. It was just the 2 of us. The decor is very nice and they have various seating options.
google avatar

Teena H.

Yelp
Low the atmosphere nice cozy chair and also you can sit at the table. Great food. They forgot our drinks but other than that I'm giving them another try.
google avatar

Shelley C.

Yelp
Short rib empanada and salmon dish Very oily but ok in small quantities Ambiance has a diversity of casual coffee and mid century modern area with games like backgammon and a more sit down dining area. Service was extremely fast around closing time

Evan M.

Yelp
10/10 experience, customer service & food. They have happy hour specials until closing time! Food was delicious, staff were attentive and kind/friendly, and the restaurant is really clean with a modern aesthetic. This place takes care of their customers in that they genuinely care about making the customer service experience feel special. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food, attentive service. A large group came here for a happy hour after work get together with former colleagues and the quality of the food and kindness of the staff was excellent. I highly recommend this hidden gem. Plenty of parking available and convenient to the freeway. The drinks and appetizers were great and discounted during happy hour.
google avatar

Yelp
Came in with my wife last week and sat at a table on the far side of the restaurant. Was so impressed with how attentive the Bartender was as he was the one who served our table, very knowledgeable about the menu and spot on recommendations on the drinks since we were a bit indecisive about what to order! Good food and great drinks and A+ service to the bartender! Will definitely be back

Wendy R.

Yelp
I hosted a business lunch at Chico Marx with two clients and a colleague. The atmosphere was perfect for a productive and enjoyable meeting. The food was outstanding. We ordered a variety of dishes, including drinks, appetizers, entrees, and desserts, and everything was delicious. The short rib empanadas and ceviche were particularly memorable. The lomo saltado was cooked to perfection with a generous portion. We also loved the churros and chocolate mousse for dessert. The mousse was a bit thicker than usual, but it was very smooth and I actually preferred it to other places. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. It was a Monday, so the restaurant wasn't too crowded. I think this hidden gem is still relatively unknown. Even my clients, who work nearby, had never heard of it. They were thrilled to discover this great spot. I will definitely bring my clients back here again and recommend it to others.

Ashley E.

Yelp
ambiance is great, simple, clean, aestherically pleasing. Came in for lunch with my co-workers and was greeted and seated immediately. service was great was always attended to, there were only about 3 tables occupied though, i don't think the public knows much about this restaurant because it is located inside a commercial business building. Chicken taquitos for appetizers came with 3 pieces over a slaw- they were great, i would order them again. Lomo Saltado for my entree - perfect serving size, not too much not too little, did get me full, i would i say that it was quite oily, the 'fries' part of it was also soggy, but i did enjoy the flavor profile I would definitely try this place out again, hoping they dont skimp out on the rose this time ;)

Jackson Y.

Yelp
Great restaurant. Front lady host is super nice and sweet. Would go back again The tacos were relishes. Impossible meat combo also good
google avatar

Monica B.

Yelp
Great cocktails and food was delicious! Location isn't very visible from the street but it's a nice vibe. They close at 7pm so you go to dinner early or do lunch.

Penelope L.

Yelp
First time coming here! It's tucked away but the inside has a beautiful and clean ambiance. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and we were able to get the happy hour menu. Honestly can't wait to come back! Lol this place seemed spacious to host a party or event!
google avatar

Yelp
Almost food is great and service is . I don't usually eat calamari but off the hook. Also serve lomo saltado excellent. Must try this new place. Only been there a year. Drinks are not that strong, but yet the best taste I've had in awhile. Hands up

Raj P.

Yelp
My wife and I love this restaurant. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the ambiance is contemporary. it's a must-try!

Yelp
NEW-Great lunch and happy hour spot! Food is delicious. Super cute decor and service was excellent. Have a business lunch here or they even have larger rooms for private lunch/dinner hostings.

Yelp
Why is this place so empty??? My first time here and I'm literally the third wheel to a couple across the restaurant. The restaurant is super clean and modern. The staff is nice and the service is good. And the food was awesome. I don't understand it. Parents with young kids....this is your spot! The place closes at 7pm, so get here at 5pm, let the kids scream their hearts out, eat a great meal and go back home. This place deserves to stick around.
google avatar

Suraj P.

Yelp
Amazing food with fantastic ambiance and welcoming atmosphere. The empananas are to die for, and every entree I have tried has been solid but my favorite is the braised short rib which is super tender! And the chimichurri sauce oh my!! It's a rare full service restaurant close to many of the biotech companies in the area - perfect for a nice lunch or happy hour!

Jeff G.

Yelp
I wish I could post this with minus 3 stars. But Yelp won't allow that. We just left after trying this place for lunch and when I say this was maybe the worst food I've ever had anywhere I am not exaggerating. At 12:30 pm in the lower level of a huge office park the place was deserted. Literally empty except for us. That tells you something. Where to begin. Even the Arnold palmers were atrocious. Heavy thick black tea that looked like ice coffee with a splash of I guess simple syrup in it. Like drinking acid. The short rib empanadas are small to begin with and to expand the servicing as not to be an embarrassing portion to serve they cut a serving of 2 of them in half. So you get 4 tiny pieces. Half filled with cold stringy meat. The idea of a empanada is the pocket to retain moisture and heat. Sitting cut open waiting for a waiter to retrieve it, it is getting colder by the second. My sister had the Saltado which was chunks of tough chewy meat with no sauce or flavor at all. The fries soaked up the sauce what there was of it. And a scoop of cold rice on the side. I had the Catalan chicken. Two pieces of dark meat seemingly tossed in a deep fryer. It was super crispy but had no flavor or seasoning at all. Not even salt. The food at Chipotle is better quality. I would be shocked if this place is still in business in 6 months . I am not exaggerating when I say that I would not eat here again for free. The manager was nice about taking the un-eatable food off the bill but was mildly insulting about it telling us that this is a popular dish and she eats it all the time. And that perhaps it was not to our preferences. Yes that is true. We prefer steak that is not as chewy as a strip of flavorless rawhide. Also the only parking is in a dimly lit office parking garage which is a 1/4 mile walk straight uphill and the location is off the 101 in a business center. Location very bad as well. I would strongly recommend giving this place a hard pass

Yelp
I'm happy this place opened a few blocks away from where I live. Good good and staff is friendly. I will be coming back fo shoooooo!

Yelp
JC On a way back home from San Francisco, we stopped in South San Francisco to visit some friends and ask them for a place to eat, and they suggested Chico Marx. If you are looking for a place with good food and reasonable prices, don't go there. Place is nice but food could be better, We order a burger and it had no seasoning at all and the fry's had no salt. On top of that, I order a coke and they served "coke Mexicana". The problem with that is not the coke, it was the price $9.00. They did not mentioned that they did not had regular coke and served the other one. Very disappointed. Will never go back

Vernie R.

Yelp
This is a pretty new restaurant located near biotech offices in SSF. The ambiance is really nice and place is very clean and modern. We thoroughly enjoyed the music as well. We can actually have a conversation as the music is not too loud and probably because there were not many people in there. And it helps that we liked the playlist. Service was very good and friendly. Now the food-since we went during happy hour, 3-7pm, we ordered small plates. The calamari was so good that we ordered another plate of it. It was well seasoned and crunchy. We also enjoyed the rib empanada which was delicious. The albondigas (meatball) was also flavorful. The only item that we were not crazy about was the churros. The texture was nice but it could use more sugar. Maybe that was intentional as they serve it with melted chocolate for dipping. But I'm not a chocolate person so to me the churros was not the best. I will definitely come back. I hope this business thrives

Yelp O.

Yelp
Restaurant is sleek, modern and tastefully decorated. There was ample parking in the lot off to the left. It's a very pretty space and the food was not bad. The drinks were just ok but we enjoyed the food we ordered - chicken quesadillas, pan con tomate, truffle french fries, and calamari. I was a bit disappointed that the fries didn't come with the aioli that's stated on the menu but there was no staff around that could've helped with that. From the moment we set foot in the restaurant service was completely lacking and it wasn't busy at all. There were only three groups dining when we got there. No one greets you at the door. The bartender just points to the tables and you're supposed to seat yourself. It was a good 15 minutes before the waiter came to bring us menus. We made sure to order everything we wanted when he returned because he was inattentive and very slow moving. At one point I saw both the bartender and our server on their phones. We flagged down another staff member for our check and because no one was taking our payment we walked it over to the bar. Again, the bartender was on his phone and completed whatever he was doing on his device before taking our credit card. Wow.

Ming C.

Yelp
The food is so so . Only inside was pretty nice ! The waiter gives me two dishes that I didn't order and doesn't know how!
