Chicos Taqueria

Chico’s.has been are go to for Mexican Food in Benicia since they opened approximately 3 yrs ago. There is competition in our small town of 3 other Mexican restaurants. Chico’s is our first choice. Due to a few reasons: 1)There portions are so large that my husband and I can split a regular chicken burrito and it’s more than enough for 2 meals. 2) the price is reasonable. We get the shredded chicken burrito with green salsa on the side. Usually the burrito w/o salsa inside is very moist. This last time we ordered it, the rice tasted a bit overcooked. But this was the only time we have ever encountered this situation in the 3 yrs time we’ve been getting take out there. Their dining room is small with the idea to eat your meal without much atmosphere. So we usually get takeout. Overall, we really enjoy Chico’s food and prices.

Very tasty taco salads and the proportion was such that one salad easily makes for two meals for me! I really like the taco 'bowl' crisp yet flaky. The service was efficient but I imagine at 'busy hours' the order area gets pretty crowded

I'm happy to have had Chico's be a caterer for my wedding this year in 2025. Roman and his wife Martha, the owners of the restaurant, were very easy to work with in terms of budget, courses to have, theme colors, and having add-ons to the main courses we picked. Since my venue was right across the street from them, they knew the layout of the Veteran's Hall well and how they operate. They kept everything professional and cordial, making the planning and the day of the wedding a day I will never forget with my wife. It was nice to see that they accommodated for vegetarians and other non-meat eaters. Even if I'm not planning an event, the atmosphere of their restaurant is a good place to relax after a long day. I gotta move to Benicia soon, just so I can be a regular here. Thank you Chico's for providing great service!

A hidden gem, in my opinion! The BIG PORTIONS, The TASTE & SATISFACTION 💯 I will gladly sacrifice the bridge toll and return again. It's a bit pricey and worth every dollar spent. IG definitely was a factor for our visit. Don't sleep on this spot. Show them some love, and don't forget to order the Birria Melt!

Generous amount of meat comes with chips and salsa. I had Carne Asada and Al Pastor tacos. The tortilla doesn't fall apart and is soft and chewy. The Carne Asada was juicy tender not overcooked. They all past store was sweet tasted a bit roasted. The cilantro relish had a strong onion taste. The chips and salsa were awesome. The chips were crunchy and the red salsa was fresh and tomato with like some herbie taste to it, tasted a little like oregano They're green salsa was also fresh it's sour has a tomatillo taste earthy and fresh. 8/10

I just bought my family some delicious grilled chicken and steak tacos, it came with chips, green and red salsa, so good! Love the family owned feel, clean, Great service, good prices, fast and easy. The tacos are so tasty 🤤 Highly recommend 🙌🏻💯💯

Very disappointed in the service I got I got a lot of attitude from the counter person I was picking up two separate orders for two different people for my wife and her boss. I ordered two different burritos spent $35 and they wanted to nickel and dime me over a bag of chips and salsa trying to get me to pay an extra dollar 50 for a small bag of chips and for salsa. I just spent $35. I have two separate orders. I’m picking up for two different people but you only wanna give me one bag of chips and one salsa very disappointing in the service trying to get extra money out of me when I already spent $35 on food Very bad experience very disappointed. I will be telling friends and family not to eat here and I will not be coming back if you can’t treat somebody Better than that, I don’t wanna give you my business or refer business to you, and of course, instead of accommodating, she blames ownership saying that that’s their rules. We’re not allowed to give out more than one bag of chips if you had other people here with you, I would give you another bag, but I don’t believe you so we’re not giving you another bag and another salsa chips and salsa very cheap. That’s very disappointing.

Torta was really good! Love the bread and the carnitas were perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Will be back soon.

Yesterday I tried their sizzling steak fajitas, and it was delicious! My wife and I both agree, this is probably our favorite dish so far, at Chico's! Never disappointed when I leave with my food!

This is a solid Mexican restaurant with a typical menu. Basically, what you would expect to see in a Mexican restaurant, with perhaps one or two extras. I suspect most of their business is take out. One can eat in. I have not done that. The food is good. Not "Oh my god, this is the best Mexican food I have ever had.", but good, well-flavored, and a reasonable price for the area. We have had: tacos, burritos, taco salad, plus the usual sides. Again, quite good, and their red salsa has a slight kick. Their chips are made in-house, and are good. The service is great. Friendly and accurate. Again, a solid restaurant serving the expected dishes.

Update 11/8/25: Ok, they're not as stingy with their habanero salsa BUT they're not very accommodating compared to many other family owned restaurants. I asked if they could do a steak quesadilla with corn tortilla for my son, negative. Not even a taco with melted cheese. I ended up getting a regular steak quesadilla which was way too much food for my 4 year old. I'd also like to mention how expensive this place is. A super burrito, a quesadilla, 1 drink and a side of fries came out to $47. That seems excessive. I probably should have just left when I was given the price but my son and I had a long morning and we were already there. You know how it is. Needless to say, I don't expect them to bend over backwards. I just don't believe a taco + melted cheese is a big ask. Rating remains the same: 2 stars.

If you're in Benicia this is the place to go. Don't expect much from the staff (personality wise) but the food is amazing. There's always good music playing and an authentic vibe inside. Whether you go for breakfast, lunch, or dinner you'll be happy you did.

This is a whole in the wall Mexican place in the Starbucks/ pizza pirate plaza. This is the best and most authentic Mexican spot in all of Benicia but unfortunately I think it is often overlooked because of Sandoval's, Elviarita's, and 907 down First street. It is not full service so you do have to order your food at the counter and they deliver it to you. Then you are expected to clean up after yourself when you are done eating. Ambiance is very relaxed. Cheaper than the restaurants I noted above and a hundred times better. Glad we stopped in as it will be added to our rotation of local faves

2 words: STRAWBERRY HORCHATA!!!!! You hear me? I don't think you do... I said strawberry horchata!! I didn't think I heard her right either. It's the best drink I have EVER had. We ordered the carnitas flautas- you get 4 to an order. Large enough to share or for leftovers. Next we had the birria hotdog. A mashup of the hotdogs you see on the pier in San Francisco but with a huge flair. The chips and salsa were delicious. Service was exceptional. Decor is beautiful

Review update - I really used to enjoy this place but the past couple experiences I've had here is making me reconsider... First experience - I ordered a Carne Asada burrito, the girl at the register misheard me for a Carnitas (I don't eat pork). When I got home and took a bite of my burrito, I noticed it was incorrect, they were able to replace it but the inconsistency of the burritos were interesting. The Carnitas burrito was tightly wrapped as where the Carne Asada one was not. Second experience - I ordered a Carne Asada super burrito (my order is literally the same every time I go there), the girl at the register accidentally gave my super burrito to somebody else who ordered a regular carne burrito and was going to fix the regular Carne burrito that was meant for the other person to a super. Well, I'm not sure what happened because the cook opened my burrito, not sure what they did and wrapped it back up, but when I got home to eat it, there was no guacamole or sour cream anywhere! Ugh! Safe to say, I'll probably be taking a break from coming here and exploring other options in the area!

Cute Spot that came up on my IG feed and we decided to come check them out. I saw that they're also on DoorDash but they don't have their whole menu on there. The chips and salsa were good while we were waiting on our food. The best things we had was the shrimp and steak burrito, the lengua taco, and the birra melt with fries. The birra melt was good. The light toasty bread and cheese dipped In The consome (very flavorful) was really good. The steak and shrimp burrito was one of the best ! Not sure if they have different bean choices for it. But the refried beans were good. The lengua taco was very well seasoned . Im a big Al pastor fan but it fell a little short, the meat was over cooked. My tacos de birra were alright, if you didn't dip them in the consome they seemed a little bland.

I came here for dinner mid-week with a friend. They had a constant flow of customers ordering takeout with a few people choosing to dine in, myself included. My friend ordered the super burrito and boy was at super! She ate a little more than half and took the rest home. I opted for the birria tacos. They were piping hot, which made me feel good about how fresh the food was. I'm so glad I discovered this spot in Benicia!

So glad I saw a video advertising the food here! Not an easy to find spot on your own, this place is a solid eatery. Everything we've had so far is delicious. I personally love getting the shrimp and steak burrito to go, and the steak and shrimp fajitas when I'm eating in. This place can also get busy so prepare for a bit of a wait! Highly recommend the orange chipotle sauce. Delicious, and it comes with chips and salsa. Corn tortillas all the way. Strawberry Horchata and the Strawberry Banana Horchata with a Concha were also really good. Always love coming back here, and staff is very attentive. When you are done with your plates there is a spot to put your empty plates. Place is clean with tables both in and out of the restaurant, with plenty to look at on the walls.

I ordered a pollo asado super burrito and not only was it delicious, but it was the size you would expect from a $14 burrito. Will definitely be coming back to try their shrimp burrito and other items. Solid spot for sure.

Heard this place was good so I brought a friend to try this place out with. There is plenty of parking shared with other businesses. It's tucked in a mini shopping center to the right of Safeway. It's a small place but cute and filled with decor on the walls. You order at the counter and there's a large menu on the wall. I ordered the regular carne asada burrito, wet, and my friend had the fish taco plate. We each had soda to go along with our meal. We didn't wait long for the food as there was no one else eating inside. However, there were two people waiting for food to go. Service was fast and friendly, prices were decent, and the place was clean. The food was very good and flavorful. I definitely want to come back to try other menu items.

Easily becoming my favorite place in town for Mexican Food. I just love how easy it is to order. I can use cash or card and I can also order online for pickup/delivery. To add icing to the cake, there is a reward system too? Chico's definitely sets itself apart for being the most accessible. But what also keeps it on top is the quality and the amount of food you get. For example I've been to just about every place and I feel like this place has the biggest Burritos in town. Recently I ordered some Shrimp Enchiladas Plate and they smackin. The beans and rice that it came with were super comforting and always I appreciated the bag of chips and salsa that they provide with every order. I hear that there is Carnitas Melt that's really good here. I wanna try that and their Birria one of these days.

I ordered a super burrito without rice, beans, sour cream and guac to get extra chicken so they charged me more! Their food is tasteless . The salsa verde is so watered down it actually taste like ....water . The chips are by far thee worst chips ever , they are also tasteless , unappealing and seem old.

Food was great but the consome was kinda too light like liquidty. Overall sandwich was great

To start this review me and my wife came back to visit my home town and I'll be frank with this review. Food- Although the server did not seem to want to understand how food allergies work the cook/owner understood and made the food magnificently. Food was perfect. Everything was well seasoned and well cooked. The avocado was fresh and the salsas were fresh and very flavorful. The birria was to die for and my wife rated it highly. Service- poor and the cashier seems very nonchalant and very put off by the fact she has to work or even take orders. I can tell as a restaurant manager when cashiers have no experience in adequate customer service. The cook on the line on the hand heard our order and accommodated to everything perfectly. Ambiance- mid day lunch ambiance was dull but you can tell the decoration is geared more for dinner and late night bites. Overall- food and ambiance were a 10/10. Everything was fresh, hot and well made. Customer service lacked during order taking but the staff pulled through in the back and made it a memorable experience. Glad I could come back home and find a new lunch/dinner spot.

Excellent Mexican food spot in Benicia! I ordered the shredded chicken taco salad and it did not disappoint--fresh ingredients, flavorful chicken, and generous portions. The menu is packed with mouthwatering options, which made it genuinely hard to choose just one thing. I'll definitely be coming back to try the Birria next time! Great spot, highly recommend!

This place does the job. It's the best Mexican food you can get in town, but dealing with the staff and the inconsistencies can be annoying. If you're willing to make the drive to Vallejo, La Piñata taco truck on Broadway street is THE BEST Mexican food I've ever had.

I like everything about this restaurant, ordering online, pick up usually 10 minutes, usually ready when I get there, people are friendly, flavor is okay, But they dont read the request, I asked for Light Rice and Beans, nope. This is typical for most restaurants not paying attention to details. And my meal was $25.

We recently had Chico's cater an event for 52 people and they made everything so easy. They made sure their live taco bar was clean before cooking and made sure all was to the proper temperature before serving. The food was amazing just as it is when we eat at the restaurant itself. All in our group were very impressed with both the food and the incredible service. We also had two five gallons of drinks, these were refreshing and delicious. Many thanks to both Martha and Francisco for making our event so special and memorable. We would definitely do this again. David

My wife and I came back to Chico's for lunch. She had the shredded chicken taco salad and loved it. I ordered the Carnitas Melt. Very different menu item. Fries were cooked perfect with a little crunch. The Carnitas melt was delicious. I would order again or try the other "Melts". Service is efficient and friendly. Nice location, small but comfortable.

Came here to get dinner, after seeing them on instagram. I enjoyed my food and the price was great too. I got the combo fajitas plate, my dad got the steak and shrimp burrito, and my husband got the el pastor burger. We all enjoyed our meals. The staff was nice and kind when we came to order. The place was a nice homey place, clean and tidy. I definitely will be going back to try another thing off the menu and definitely will try the breakfast menu one day.

I ordered via DoorDash since I was busy unpacking from a move. I ordered a carne asada burrito, carne asada tacos and a kids BCR. Everything was so good! Salsa was fresh and delicious. This will definitely be in our monthly rotation now we're back in town!

On a quick decision on lunch I tried Chicos for the first time. My first impression was it's sort of a quiet little place tucked away in the corner of a strip mall. It's nothing fancy but my opinion those are the better eateries. I order the pazole because I wanted something hot because of the cold weather. The broth was very nice but the amount of pork was somewhat modest. They did serve it with sliced radish,lime,cilantro onions and Mexican oregano which was good but the price was a bit however I may give it another try again and review again later.

Food can be good but they keep making food cold or wrong - tonight bean and cheese burrito for my son was all rice (no beans or cheese). Additionally all the meat in my burrito was burned and the chips were stale. The past two times the cheese was cold and unmelted. It's unfortunate that their quality is going down bc I used to come weekly.

Food was amazing not only was the presentation good but the flavor sure did deliver! Customer service was a 10/10 and the ambience gives a nice Hispanic homie vibe :)

One of my "Go too's" in Benicia. Plenty of food to choose from and is consistently good. Friendly staff, and always has music playing. Not the biggest place but a fair share of sitting space with a couple seat options outside.

Amazing catering experience. Francisco reached out the next day after I submitted my catering order online and took care of us from the beginning of the order to the time of pick-up, it was even in short notice. My colleagues enjoyed everything. We ordered the build your own taco bar and enchiladas with horchata for drinks. Definitely recommend for your next party, event, or office meeting.

Great find! Ordered the shredded chicken taco plate. Carne asada taco plate and quesabirias. This place does not skimp on the portions. Very tasty. We ended up ordering to go and the wait time was not too bad. They do have seating inside as well.

The super al pastor burrito was excellent. It was loaded with ingredients, including a lot of meat. And their salsa is also excellent. I know that food taste is subjective but if you don't like this you may have destroyed your taste buds at one time or another.

Horrible service from the girl working the register every damn time! She's rude AF and acts like you're inconveniencing her by asking questions or reminding her for the salsa and drink that you ordered with your food. Each time I come I check to see of her attitude would change but nope, still hella rude. Food is ok.

Benicia doesn't have a whole lot of options but of the options they do have, they have some major hitters. I coordinated a small company lunch and needed a place that could deliver by 11AM. This is pretty early as most places in the area are just opening at that time and can not accommodate. Not only was Chicos able to meet that time frame, they also DELIVER which is a major +++! Typically they charge about $20 for local delivery but the manager Francisco was nice enough to waive this for us. Between time of order and delivery date, the manager made sure to check in with me to confirm our order details, pricing, and even made sure to call me with an ETA when he was on the way to deliver. They don't have a catering menu but they are very prompt by email and text if you reach out. They do have trays of beans, rice, fajitas, taco meat, or tacos available as well as on site catering. We were only have a small lunch so we opted to just do tacos but lemme tell you, their tacos are massive!! The tortillas are slightly larger than normal street size, and they fill them to max capacity with meat! We tried the carne asada, al pastor and grilled chicken. You can have all the onions, cilantro and salsa on the side if you prefer, or you can get them dressed. We asked for salsa on the side since their default is spicy, and added mild salsa as a side too. I will say the meats are more on the lean end and my preference is a softer, fattier cut so it's less dry, but flavor wise all were good! This business really knows how to cater to their customers. As an extra, Francisco threw in a whole tray of freshly fried chips and salsa. Sooo crunchy and the salsas so flavorful! I like that their spicy one was actually spicy! It made me really happy that the communication was constantly there, and the service spectacular. Y'all know how it is when this area is lacking, service isn't prompt, etc but that isn't the case at all here. Francisco made sure to check in and bring us everything we needed and reassured us if we needed anything further, he could come run it over. From start to finish, our experience using Chicos was excellent and we'll make sure to consider them for all future lunches! Def a Benicia gem :)

I am from Los Angeles and I have lived in Mexico--this is some of the best Mexican food I have eaten in the US, hands down. Fresh, authentic, and delicious.

This was by far one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. The food was completely bland with no flavor at all. On top of that, the restaurant was dirty and very poorly kept. Instead of staff bussing tables, you're expected to scrape your food into a small, disgusting trash can and then place your dishes into a bucket of murky soap water that clearly hadn't been changed. It felt unsanitary and unprofessional. The service was just as bad--rude and dismissive from the moment we walked in. They didn't even bother opening a drink for us, despite the order being for dine-in. When we politely asked about it, the staff acted irritated, as if we were inconveniencing them. Overall, this place needs serious improvement in cleanliness, customer service, and food quality. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. In response to reply: Well, we wouldn't have known that your staff would've cleaned up since the service we received was so dismissive. The way it was presented, with a bucket sitting out, gave the clear impression that customers were expected to bus their own tables and dishes. Normally, that wouldn't have bothered me if the food or service had been good--but unfortunately, neither were. When staff act so unwelcoming, it's hard to assume they'll take care of things in the background.

We hired Chico's Taqueria Catering for our daughter's engagement party. The food was presented so well (festive), abundant and extremely delicious! Our guests were impressed and commented on how good it was. Took a lot of pressure off of me as the hostess. They were quiet in their set up and clean up and left nothing for us to do except to eat the delicious leftovers! I seriously did not think we would get this much food and variety of sauces ... they went over the top for us! Definitely will hire them again for our next big party!!!

Great authentic Mexican cuisine. I ordered a super burrito de cavesa and washed it down w/a large horchata. It was delicious. Service was pleasant and helpful. Good for dine-in or pick-up. The place is clean with nice ambiance.

Chico's was amazing as a caterer for my wedding! Martha and her husband were really great at explaining details and setup and trying the food! They really tailor to the theme of your event and get details down to the T! The food is amazing and will satisfy your craving for tacos!! They are really passionate about what they do, and their crew is amazing and entertaining! I highly recommend hiring Martha and Roman if you are looking for a caterer for your event or any event!! They made everything so smooth, I did not have to worry about appetizers or dinner because they really did that! Thankyou Martha and Roman!!

I gave them one last chance and it's now negative one star. Owner previously asked me to contact her to correct the inconvenience of getting my order wrong. She never even replied. I know this is family owned and want to support them, so I came back one last time. I observed the girl at the register for 30 mins while I wanted for my order. She isn't friendly and has a bad attitude. Gives bad unwelcoming vibes. She's nice only at the end when people pick up their order. As far as the food. I don't know what the rave is about. All I get is bland all around. It's safe to say I've had better and will never return.

MASSIVE super chile verde burrito. Discovered this spot about a month ago and have been back more times than I'd like to admit! Highly recommend for a bomb, reasonably priced meal!

The Carne Asada Fries are soooooo delicious as well as their super burritos! I always look forward to the Horchata. This is one of our favorite places to go to!

Honestly the best taqueria in Benicia. My family and I are huge fans of the specials. Carnitas Melt and Quesabirria are my top favorites at the moment, my husband always gets the steak fajitas quesadilla. The staff is so kind and the place is always clean.

This is our go to spot! Food is always delicious and the service is quick and everyone is friendly! We usually only get take out but inside is very clean.

The food overall is average. It's ok if I don't want something with enchilada sauce like enchiladas or a wet burrito but the "enchilada" sauce isn't very good. It's tomato based which isn't real enchilada sauce. The refried beans are just meh. It's also really slow. Every time I've been there it has taken at least 30 minutes and usually much longer.

Finally got to grab some food here today. We tried a couple of the Creepy Cod tacos on blue corn tortillas and they were tasty. Simple and yummy. We also bought (I think it was carnitas?) a birria melt. My husband wasn't sure which one he ordered as he just asked for a melt. It was delicious and the consommé was great with bits of cilantro in it which was awesome. I have to say, I really didn't care for the fries. The seasoning was good but they were limp. They weren't remotely crispy. That was a disappointment. I will try to crispify them in the air fryer before I give up on them! I'm looking forward to trying more of their food!!

We have nothing but positive things to say about Chico's catering our baby shower! We received so many compliments from guests about the good food, fun decorations, and how friendly their whole team was. Francisco was very communicative leading up to the event and everything was perfect just as we planned. He also checked in the day after the event to confirm everything went smoothly. We would 100% choose them to cater an event of ours again!

I love a good taqueria and this one has something different they have a birria patty melt that is amazing and sells out fast they only have them on Monday and Wednesday. They also have outside dining as well as inside and it's clean. I definitely recommend them if you're in the mood for some good Mexican food i recommend the patty birria patty melt service is amazing and fast as well.

Horrible service. Only 2-3 workers doing everything. Not very friendly or efficient in their work. Their attitude evokes "we have all day" when theres clearly a rush. Probably never coming here ever again.

Ordered twice and they messed my order up twice. It's unfortunate the notes were not read when I ordered online and situation was not handled with ownership and care to serve a satisfied customer. I will not eat at this establishment again.
