Find the 11 Best Tacos in Raleigh, North Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"Chido Taco is in the same family of restaurants as La Buena Vida, Cary’s Totopos Street Food, and Fonda Lupita. The bright interior is reminiscent of a beachside Mexican taco shack and serves a variety of market-style tacos. There’s lengua and al pastor of course, but also vegan chicken, suadero (beef belly), and a quesabirria combo. On the less meaty side, it offers house specials like the chile rellenos tacos, Baja-style fish tacos, and the cameron — grilled shrimp that has been marinated in mezcal." - Matt Lardie

Google
Max with Offline - I stopped by Chido Taco in Downtown Raleigh today and had an awesome experience. The food was delicious — I ordered the chicken quesadilla, and my friend had the steak quesadilla. Both were packed with flavor. We also tried the shrimp tacos, which were fresh and tasty, and the rice and beans were a solid side. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the whole place was clean and welcoming. They mentioned the Quesabirria is a fan favorite, so that’s definitely on my list for next time. Also worth noting — they have a super cute bar that I didn’t get to try today, but I’m definitely coming back soon for a cocktail and to hang out a bit longer.

I ordered three quesabirrias + Mango Juice. I 100% recommend it. There is a station with unlimited radish and cucumber, sauces, salt and pepper. The quesabirria comes with a small consomé (like soup) cup. Everything is delicious. Just an observation for improvement: the restroom was ok, but not very clean. However, there were soap, water, and paper towels so you can dry your hands. Without hesitation, try this place out!

Google
We are on a trip and wanted to eat somewhere new. We found Chido Taco and I’m so glad we did. The helpful worker who took our order guided us through our order. I absolutely loved the Quesabirrias and have never had anything like them before. You should definitely try it. The place was crowded but that’s actually a pretty good sign.

Google
Went to get dinner on the weekend and wanted to try this place. Decor was pretty cool, and there was a separate bar area. We ordered chips/ACP and a steak burrito. They have a cute salsa bar as well. My ACP was very good, and my husband enjoyed his burrito. Service was good, our food was ready fast. We were disappointed in the chips and queso they didn’t have a lot of flavor. Only other complaint was the music was way too loud. Patio was nice with a ton of large tables.

Google
We absolutely loved it all!!! The berry pineapple drank and the birria were soo delicious!!! I put some salsa, cilantro, cucumber, and squeezed some lime over the shrimp tacos and was so very thankful for the flavors that happened lmbo!! 🤤❤️

Google
Took the ACP was very filling added some veggies fr the salsa bar - onions, radish, cucumbers & cilantro (a little too much cilantro by mistake) Their arbol sauce was delish! Will def be back .. wanted to try the baja fish tacos and a the birria tacos as well! Next time

Google
I get some really great Mexican food where I'm from (Los Angeles) but this place does a great job. I had the shrimp ceviche and it was nice and spicy and flavorful. Their salsas are also very tasty and have some great kick. The atmosphere is vibrant and lively, which was great for our small family group. I'd love to come back!

Google
First time trying this place, I ordered the Beef Quesabirrias with a side of dipping broth and rice and beans, Horchata, and a Berry Pineapple Margarita, I enjoyed everything! 👍

Yelp
On a lark we stopped for lunch and what an amazing experience we had! The most incredible tortilla chips ever, we hardly used the delicious queso as it was absolutely not needed. Perfectly seasoned and light as air. My wife had ACP and declared it enough for two. I had three quesabirria with beef. I ate two and hated to leave the third behind. Absolutely delicious in each bite. Cilantro rice was wonderful, too! Clean bathroom, single stall for each gender with changing table.

Yelp
Food was pretty good, service was fine (order at counter and pick up your food), prices not too bad at all. Salsa bar isn't huge but all three of them (as well as the house salsa) were quite good. My biggest impression though -- it was hot in there. Like sweltering. Like way beyond uncomfortable to the point where my group of three had to leave before finishing because we were all so hot. It was in the 90s outside and it would have been more pleasant than inside. Seemed particularly odd because it's a 3-4 year old complex and I went to Bendito back in 2022 and it was not hot at all. I might try the one in Cary as it's closer to my house but never again at that location.

Yelp
Reasonably priced, fresh, hot, flavorful Quesaabirria & extremely tasty Cucumber Spicy skinny Margarita. Welcoming, helpful customer service. A few seats inside and plenty of tables outside.

Yelp
Now this spot looks bigger than it does If you're looking at it from the outside so just keep that in mind. They have a full bar in the back, the bar is predominantly tequila so just keep that in mind as well! I got a bunch of stuff, and everything I had was pretty good! You have to go and order your food and then wait till it gets ready and they'll call you up. They have a buzzer situation so just be aware that you probably should not go too far if you're waiting for food. Birria tacos - They were really good and they came with everything you needed to make it great. You could go up to the little bar that had cilantro and onions and all sorts of sauces to help doctor it up if you needed it to be doctored up. But these had a really good flavor and were super juicy even before you dipped them. Chips and queso - The chips were okay, they were chips lol. But the queso what's good. Nothing to complain about. The queso was pretty good. Chicken and Steak taco - So just because, I got a couple of tacos as well. The tacos are actually pretty decent honestly. The steak was a little bit more chewy and I would have liked it to be, but it still had a good flavor to it. The chicken was good as well. The chicken needed a little bit of sauce to it which was why the sauce ball is really useful! You got a lot of food and you get bang for your buck here So I could definitely see myself coming back.

Yelp
Returned for dinner and had another great experience. Forget the fish tacos - the new move is the braised beef quesabirria. Queso is still fire, too.

Yelp
Loved Chido taco! I was on a long layover in Raleigh for work I was looking up were to eat preferably somewhere cheap. So I thought McDonald's but then I realized how expensive that would of been for just two small sandwiches and no drink so I rushed to chido taco because I had passed by it on my walk to McDonalds the place was painted very vibrantly and had Latin music playing which I loved! They had. A wide selection of Mexican eats from tacos to tortas rice beans bowls and burritos I noticed they had specials for every day of the week and surprise surprises! I came in taco tussah so the Al pastor tacos were 1.99 and beer was also discounted can't remember the exact price but was worth it! So I got four tacos a side of rice a beer and a side drink. And it came out way cheaper than what I would have payed at McDonalds if I would have gotten everything I wanted!! The tacos come with just the meats and then they have a toppings bar to add what you want the food was pretty tasty! Great place for a quick bite! And to have a beer with friends!

Yelp
Stopped in for a late lunch during a conference and those birra tacos were . I felt like they gave you a fair amount of food for a good price. It was empty when I arrived but the food came out really quick. I also got a margarita that was ok. The place is very spacious and the staff was nice. The windows let in a lot of natural light.

Yelp
This is as close to Mexico as you'll get without leaving NC. Authentic tacos and treats. The quesabirria tacos are delicious! I love their black beans and rice. So flavorful!

Cesar G.

Yelp
Good food, good service, wait time was minimal, food came out hot and tasted amazing, fairly priced and a very clean restaurant. 10/10 would eat here again.

Yelp
My experience at Chido Taco was excellent! The tacos that I got were really tasty, especially the Al Pastor pork taco. It had a hint of pineapple in it that complimented the pork nicely. My other taco, the beef belly taco, was also very good. I have to admit that it didn't pack as much flavor into it as the Al Pastor one did though. We also ordered chips and queso which were great. The queso had a delicious, complex cheesy flavor with a hint of spiced-ness to it. The service at this location was very prompt. We only waited a minute or two for our tacos. The restaurant has a fast casual setting, and it has plenty of seating (indoor and outdoor). When we were there, one corner of the restaurant looked to be out of its usual order. There were boxes piled up, as if they had yet to organize their stock. I hope that that isn't there usually, but it didn't bother me too much. I was too focused on how delicious the food was.

Yelp
I was first introduced to this place by a friend and then had to come again so my husband could try it. I have now tried the carnitas taco, al pastor taco, and the bistec taco. They were all excellent! They put a lot of meat in the corn tortilla along with onions and cilantro. The chips and queso are also very good. I feel like I got a little less queso than the first time I went, but it was still enough for all the chips. There are a good amount of tables inside and some outdoor seating as well. They had live music outside the first time I came. I'll definitely be back again and hope to take advantage of their $1.99 al pastor tacos on taco Tuesday!

Yelp
Great tacos for a really, really good price. The guy taking orders is awesome and the whole experience feels more authentic than some other spots around town. I'm somewhat split on whether or not I liked the fixins bar. I'm sorta used to tacos coming fully dressed, so that was a bit different. The meats are fresh and the sauces were well done and not too spicy. The clientele was a little stuffy but given the Hayes Barton location is guess that makes sense. I'll definitely come back for the tacos.

Yelp
This is a decent taco place to go to. I have been going since the place opened. They have raised the price since then, but the food has always been pleasing. The Tres Leche cake is really moist. They do have a big garage door where they will open up on certain days. They will also play music late night at times. They are friendly, so that is also a plus. #518

Yelp
I was so excited I didn't get many photos. The place was nice and clean. Large menu with so many options. They have grab and go snacks and cakes. The flan topped brownie looks so good! They have self-service fountain drinks and a full bar! Patio seating as well. We got the guacamole, queso, chips, steak tacos, shrimp tacos, Quesadillas, and it came with rice and black beans. The shrimp tacos were amazing!!! I am still dreaming about them. Lol, they were on corn tortillas and loaded with favor and cheese. The steak tacos were seasoned so well, and the lime with the green salsa added to the flavor for a perfect bite. The black beans were cooked well, and I hate beans but ate them. The chips were cooked fresh, paired great with the guacamole and queso. They had the to go containers by the drink station for easy pack and go. Great amount of food for the price and re-heats well.

Yelp
First off I want to start by saying the food was so good I went back and bought the same meal again that's how good it is. I was not even able take a picture of the food because my girl and I were so happy to enjoy it again. Let's start was the Queso Chips and Dip, one word "addictive. We both enjoyed the little seasoning was a blast. I'll give more details next go around but for now go enjoy.

Yelp
The quesabirrias were a 10 out of 10! Definitely recommend, we got a little bit of everything and were somewhat disappointed with the tacos. We thought they had guac because of the pics and ads but they didn't. They were also advertising some new tacos and then when we wanted to ordered them they said they were out. The place had a very friendly atmosphere and the drinks were somewhat over priced.
google avatar

Yelp
OMG, this is the second time I had a Quesabirria taco, and the first time from this restaurant. It was outstanding even down to the beans and rice. I inhaled those tacos in a millisecond. I had my entire office smelling delicious. The tacos were so damn good, I couldn't get to the Churros, but baby, tonight, it's me and the Churros with a hot cup of coffee. I will definitely order from Chido Tacos in Raleigh, NC, again.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. 10 stars for the service alone. We saw all the vegan taco options they had here and were immediately interested. Vegan chicken, vegan chorizo, and vegetarian tacos or bowls!?! Not many places offer this many vegan options. We ordered through Doordash where the menu was much smaller and didn't have the same options as the real menu but we called the restaurant and they were able to work with us on modifying our order to how we liked it/making the meat options vegan and they were very patient and helpful to us. We got 6 vegan tacos- 2 vegan chicken, 2 vegan chorizo, and 2 vegetable. The vegetable normally is cactus but we asked if we could just have grilled onions and peppers. We also asked for all flour tortillas. All the tacos were great, but vegan chorizo had to be the best! We also got a side of both queso and guac and cilantro rice and all were amazing. I really loved the queso. I got the steak bowl which was actually sooo delicious and tasted fresh, and adding the guac and queso to it was just the cherry on top. I would definitely come back and after seeing pictures of the interior and how cute it's decorated I will be dining in!

Yelp
Tried Chido Taco for the first time today and it was all that and more! Had the quesabirrias with braised beef, cheese, cilantro and onions. It comes with a delicious dipping sauce and rice and beans. The quesabirrias were *chefs kiss*. Beef was so tender and they were so flavorful! Also had their elote asado and listen, you must get this delicious corn on the cob topped with lime, mayo, Tajin and queso fresco. It was so good I wish I had ordered two. The restaurant is nice and clean and very well lit with outdoor seating available.

Yelp
Love this place! I have had many things on the menu and everything is delicious! My favorite is the acp or the beef quesabirria combo!

Yelp
A coworker recommended this place so i give it a try. The place is nice, however food not so good, i have tried way more better tacos and more authentic to be honest (personal opinion) i had a carnitas which was okay, a campechano very dry, al pastor and carne asado, both okay. The birria tacos are good but bo the best, they came with rice and beans but there was no flavor on both of them very disappointing at least some salt would have been good. Not coming back for sure.

Yelp
Quesabirrias!! Quesabirrias!!! QUESABARRIAS!!! This place is super "slept on"...We've loved the food each time. It comes out quickly and they actually squeeze 1,000,000 lines at the bar...which lets me know all I need to know about the authenticity of this Mercado Style Taqueria!
google avatar

Yelp
As someone who is Mexican, and from California, I was truly surprised that this Mexican restaurant in the South was authentic and delicious! They have vegan options and non vegan options which makes it great to go with a mix of people. The vegan protein is morning star, and my bowl had a bit of a kick but it was still good to me. The guacamole and chips are amazing. This place was really busy but service was fast. I'd definitely come back and recommend Chido Taco to others!

Yelp
Had a bad experience at this place. Stopped by just after 11 AM to try some vegan tacos and the shop was clearly were having a disorganized opening. Took a while to get someone at the register. The register wasn't working. Then the soda machine had not been turned on, and it took a while to find the lady with the key. Finally took my soda and sat outside with my "buzzer" to await notice that my order was completed. Notice never came. After quite a while, someone actually wandered outside to tell me that my order has been ready "for a while" up at the counter. Apparently the little buzzer wasn't working so I got cold tacos. It was also annoying that they walked outside to tell me the tacos were ready, but couldn't take the tacos to me. The tacos themselves were tasteless and the tiniest tacos I've ever seen. I attach a picture of the two tacos next to a small plastic spoon for size comparison. Two tiny tacos, some tasteless beans and a soda were $18 with tip. I will not return. I really don't understand how this place gets good reviews.

Yelp
What an experience! Quesabirria tacos have been on my bucket list for forever. I am so happy my sister invited me here because this taco lived up to the hype! The inside really gave me authentic Mexican vibes. The music, the Mexican snacks on sale, the colors, and the decor just went well together. They have a cute bar in the back but I did not get a alcoholic beverage on this visit. I have since followed there Instagram account and their drinks look so pretty and tasty. I plan to go back and indulge in a drink, or two, or three! I ordered the beef Quesabirria tacos and they were packed with favor. The sauce had onions and fresh cilantro and is such a compliment to the tacos themselves. Honestly, you can eat the tacos without and they would still be delicious. The combo came with three beef tacos, cilantro flavored rice, and black beans. I believe it was $12 which I find to be pretty reasonable. They give you a few sauces as well. I am a taco lover, so I will be back for more!

Yelp
In town for a gig, and this place was recommended. I have to admit, I was a little nervous to try this place, being from LA, but they did not disappoint! Delicious and authentic!
google avatar

Harry U.

Yelp
Quick, easy, delicious. I got the vegan burrito and it was incredible--a little spicy and a good ratio of ingredients. The guacamole is great and so was the cilantro rice. It's in a cool plaza and the inside was very clean.
google avatar

Dina L.

Yelp
I think I'd like this place better outside of lunch time. The tacos were dry and not particularly fresh. The bartender was more interested in chatting up a regular than getting my drink. It's a cute, albeit tight unless you eat outside, spot so I'll try again
google avatar

Jordan W.

Yelp
Drove all the way here from charlotte from seeing them on my Instagram timeline and I will say it was worth the 2 and a half hour drive ‼ I got the Baja fish tacos (beer battered) and from the first bite I knew I made the right decision, they let you dress up individually ordered tacos yourself with onions, cilantro 3 different salsas and they have radish and cucumbers as well for you pallet
google avatar

Gillian W.

Yelp
Fantastic food, great drinks, best micheladas in town, great salsas, sauces and guacamole!
google avatar

Dominique T.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this place. It was packed when we went, but the service was great, the bartender was awesome and the food came out quickly. The best part about Chido was the outdoor patio area. They had plenty of seats and lots of areas to move around especially with a busy toddler. The only thing that was surprising was the rice and beans weren't really seasoned, but the tacos, chips and queso and the drinks were perfection.

Marc B.

Yelp
Good food but the Chicken bowl is unfortunately consistently deprived of flavor. It's a good healthy option but it leaves alot to be desired
google avatar

Gabrielle H.

Yelp
The service is great, the vibe is cute, the food is terrible. It is so bland. the beans taste like beans just poured out of a can. The chicken, I guess the sear on it is supposed to be the seasoning. The birria is a taco that is soggy and resembles taco bell. Even the broth is unseasoned...Again everyone is super sweet but if you like seasoned food this may not be the spot for you.

Mary Ellen G.

Yelp
Great food and service. I think we'll be eating here often! Located right next to Trader Joe's. Try it out next time you go
google avatar

Sophia T.

Yelp
I had high expectations for Chido Taco from seeing it on socials, and it was good, just not great like I was expecting. Cocktails were suuuuuper sweet, food was a pretty basic tex-mex style, but chips and guac were very good! Super cute interior, great vibes, nice outdoor seating, and good food! Just don't go into as a foodie with super high expectations for something unique!
google avatar

Yelp
I had a taste for tacos and the places I've tried so far in Raleigh just haven't quite hit the spot. So when I stumbled across this place with great reviews, I decided to check them out. Let's just say, I'm glad I did. Their Quesabirria's are fantastic. I'd go back for those alone. I also tried the Taco Campechano, the Volcanes and the Taco Pollo Adobado. They ranged between okay and good. However, the pollo adobado one tore up a bit before I could even take the first bite. Overall, I enjoyed the place and have added them to my regular rotation.

Yelp
We have been on the hunt for some good Mexican street food (and birria tacos) and came across Chido Taco as a recommendation in a FB group. I felt like I was walking onto an actual street lined with food vendors. I love the vibrant colors and just the overall atmosphere was inviting. Since the hubs has been wanting to try birria tacos for awhile now there was no question as to what he was going to order. lol In addition to the tacos, he got the Mexican street corn. The street corn was some of the best he has ever had and felt it had just the right amount of heat to it without being overpowering. The meat on the tacos was tender for the most part but did have some dry spots but the dipping sauce helped with the dry spots and brought all the flavors together. The queso wasn't anything special but did appreciate that the chips were perfectly salted which is hard to find at most restaurants these days. The shrimp tacos were good. I felt the shrimp was a tad over cooked for my liking but overall I enjoyed them. We will definitely be back and look forward to trying other items from the menu...and some of that tequila.

Sarah S.

Yelp
I ordered to go here. The food was ready right away when I got there and I don't think it had been over 10 minutes. I ordered the quesabirria combo which comes with beans and rice. The consomé was not as flavorful as the last place I went to. I would try something different next time I come here.
google avatar

Kat G.

Yelp
Finally made it to Chido Taco! Cute restaurant with a nice menu, loved the ambiance and the separate bar top space. They have indoor and outdoor seating. I ordered the quesabirria tacos with a side of rice and beans. The tacos were flavorful, crispy and the food was great. I ordered a hibiscus mezcalita which was refreshing. Don't forget to take home some treats.
google avatar

Erika L.

Yelp
My husband saw reviews and reels on this place from instagram. We were finally in the area today and decided to try it. Unfortunately it didn't quite match the hype for us. I'm always looking for a good spot with good birria here in North Carolina. To me, the birria soup was ok. Didn't have much/great flavor. 3 for $12.99 didn't quite fit the price tag for that. We also got a torta and 3 individual tacos. The tacos were also "ok" to me, but again for the price didn't really make a great impression. The torta looked good and my husband liked it enough. Like I told my husband, sometimes I feel like the reviews on instagram or tik tok may not be reliable. We, personally, wouldn't be coming back here... but didn't have a bad experience.
google avatar

Janet R.

Yelp
Chico Taco is good. They don't knock my socks off but it's pretty solid nonetheless! I've tried every taco they offer (I think) as well as the chips and guac, and a plethora of alcoholic drinks. What I enjoy most during my times here are the beautiful cocktails and the vibes of the restaurant. It is so colorful and the artwork on the walls is great. You can tell a lot of thought went into decorating this space. There is so much natural sunlight, too, which makes it pretty much impossible to take a bad photo of your food. Unless you come at night, then disregard that last sentence. Parking is decent but you may need to walk a little to get to the restaurant since the plaza it's located in is full of other great (and busy) local businesses. I haven't been here since before the pandemic, but am excited to come back again sometime and see what they're up to these days.

Yelp
Stopped by on a whim while driving through Raleigh and I'm so glad we did! I loveeee street style tacos and the al pastor tacos were A1. My husband got the burrito bowl and it was also quite tasty. :) We both shared an horchata and TBH wish I got my own because boyyyyyy it was delicioso. Off topic note: thumbs up for the traditional spanish music. Definitely heightens the atmosphere in the best way!

Yelp
Literally ordered from here at least twice and the food was really good. The Birria Tacos w. Steak were my favorite. They have plenty of seating and a bar. Definitely recommended!

Yelp
Ordered thru doordash. The Chips and Queso was so good and fresh. The tacos were tasty as well.

Yelp
Chido Taco is pretty close to my house and the fam and I have been heading over since they opened. Pre pandemic it was the perfect spot to bring my toddler for dinner since when it's nice they open the doors (no one wants to be next to my loud babe) and the food came out past. During the pandemic they are still a great place to grab takeout. On my most recent visit to grab food there were plenty of people dining indoors and they still do have that nice patio you can spread out on. I know it's not authentic but man their gringo quesadillas are just so delicious. My go to is the steak and chorizo, let me tell you that thing is awesome! It's super flavorful and literally just not something I can tear myself away from. Usually with online orders they will add in two things of salsa a red salsa or maybe hot sauce and their salsa verde. Their salsa verde is also not to be missed. On a recent takeout order they didn't include it and I was so dissapointed. Their chips and queso are also the perfect side and I can't order without grabbing that as well. My only feedback is to have drink cups by the food pickup station. When you order online it's super easy to grab your food right by the door. But, if you order a fountain drink too, you then have to wait in line at the register to get your cup. I'm trying to spend the least amount of time possible in a biz right now, so I hate having to then wait in line for my cup while my food gets cold in my takeout bag.

Yelp
Stopped by for a late lunch during the week. No problem parking and lots of seating. There is no table service. Order at counter and they give you a beeper. I ordered two street tacos and a soda to eat in. The tacos came with meat, small amount of onion and cilantro. The cup for soda was a small, maybe 12oz cup, which you could refill. With a tip my check came to $10.50. Sorry to say I feel I could have had a better meal from food truck down street.

Yelp
I've been on the search for good birria tacos for the absolute longest. After several failed attempts, I was close to giving up. Luckily, Chido swooped in just in time to save the day. The space is absolutely stunning on the inside. It's bright and colorful, with graffiti art adorning the ceiling walls. There's a spacious patio area and a small bar located in the back with drinks that look so delicious. We went for the quesabirria combo, the esquites, and queso. Thankfully we didn't have to wait three hours for our food like the other overhyped taco spot we ventured out to not too long ago. It was around a ten minute wait and our food was ready for pickup at the window. The quesabirria was a knockout! The meat was so flavorful, tender and tasted amazing. There was just the perfect amount of cheese, cilantro and onion to complement and the consommé was outstanding. I've found it to be watery and soupy at other spots, but Chido's consommé was so flavorful. The queso was delicious and cheesy. The rice and beans were also really tasty along with the esquites. We enjoyed everything we had and wanted to sample some of their single tacos, but our stomachs simply wouldn't allow it we were so full. Will definitely be back to try other menu items and definitely grab a cocktail next time!

Yelp
The queso is amazing! The food is fabulous and the restaurant has such a chill vibe! Highly suggest going with friends for a fun relaxing night out. Their drinks are pretty good but the best thing there is the ACP, quesadilla, and did I mention the queso?!! Protip: Uber there after a few ciders from East Cider Bower right down the road.

Yelp
This place is overrated. I ordered the ACP with steak and was shocked at the measly portion size for what I'd paid. They either need to shrink the size of the bowl (see photo) or increase how much food you get. The food was just alright; I wasn't blown away.
