My friend and I had a very enjoyable dinner, great authentic taste. All dishes are carefully designed blended with complex tastes. We love the combination of Seasonal vegetables. The Tofu paste is the Most amazing.

I visit here last week, the traditional Japanese culinary experience was exceptional. The dishes were meticulously prepared, reflecting the precision and dedication of the highest level of culinary tradition. The flavors were harmonious and delicate. Additionally, the chef's politeness and attentive service added an extra layer of warmth to the whole dining experience.

Lovely kappo dinner in the heart of Gion. The restaurant is a fairly new reopening of the original Chihana that used to hold three Michelin stars before it tragically burned down. So how is the place? We were seated at the main counter so we could watch the master prepare the dishes, which is something I always enjoy. The atmosphere was serene but not as stiff as in most kaiseki restaurants in Kyoto I have been to. The meal started with a fried piece of flat fish (hirame) accompanied by a Japanese citrus fruit, which seemed to be a signature dish of the restaurant. This was wonderful and was followed by an impeccable sequence of dishes. We had chosen a set menu at the lower end of the price scale, but I found the cooking on a constant high level, and all the ingredients matched the season and the Kyoto setting. Some sake and beer went well with the food, and overall I can say this was a really nice dinner that I would recommend to anyone looking into experiencing Kyoto cuisine. Especially as reservations were easy to get via Pocket Concierge by the time of my visit.

This is the new shop after the old one damaged by fire in 2018. It earned Michelin 3-star for many years & hence I was eager to try. It’s a very home style restaurant being serviced by 3 people including the chef himself. Presentation of dishes was good but not extravagant. Dishes were well cooked & yummy while preserving their home cooking characteristics. Flavors were well balanced. Customers looking for expensive food ingredients only might be disappointed though. It could be debated if it’s worth a Michelin 3-star amongst those who have different preferences.

This a 3 Star Michelin Guide restaurant for 9 consecutive years. The master chef Cook food with the natural way and show you the best food match so that you can enjoy the natural taste of the food. Nice environment with limited seat. Advance reservation is needed and not entertain walk in guest. Suggest order their daiginjo sake if you are sake lover. Overall good food and very good service but a bit pricey.

My partner and I went here looking for a fine dining experience in Japan and it did not disappoint. The service is amazing, so detailed and attentive. They accommodated our requests so well (less fish, but we did have plenty). The chefs were so nice and one chatted with us in English.

We had a wonderful meal at Chihana. A very warm welcome and excellent, attentive service throughout. We really appreciated that the host and chef explained the ingredients of the dishes in English for us. The food was truly lovely: fresh, seasonal ingredients, rich in flavour. A particular highlight was a lovely clear broth lightly flavoured with yuzu. At the end of the meal, we had a very nice conversation with Mr. Nagata, the head chef. I would thoroughly recommend Chihana; it was a memorably good meal.

Formerly a 3 Michelin star restaurant (sadly the restaurant burned down in 2018 and lost its stars), the “new” Chihana now has the son at the helm. Fantastic food (15 courses), very filling, fresh, and just so good! We were lucky to have a private experience on the counter so had very very attentive service. Definitely recommend this to all as a must try Kaiseki meal when in Kyoto. It is hidden in an alleyway so look out for it in the heart of Gion district. The chef speaks some good english, the staff are very very kind. Great service overall and you see the chef preparing everything fresh in front of you. Recommend to order some Sake with your meal 😉
