Chika Ramen Bar Review - Center City - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"It’s shiny, it's bright, and it feels like the set of Blade Runner—if only the sci-fi movie was about disappointing Japanese food. Bartenders at the basement spot top drinks named Syrup Nexus-Six with a too-nutty pumpkin togarashi foam, while couples complain that their miso broth tastes like hot water. Except for the seven sake options, (almost) everything at the Center City restaurant misses the mark. Pieces of rubbery pork float in a tonkotsu broth reminiscent of Top Ramen, while tori karaage tastes like fast food nuggets covered in teriyaki sauce. If you’re absolutely set on eating here, stick to the tuna or salmon hand rolls, but even those you’ll forget about as soon as you get home. For ramen worth telling anyone about, head to Hiro or Terakawa. You can always bring a glow stick if you require the neon aesthetic. Food Rundown photo credit: Cody Aldrich Cocktails Drinks are what Chika does best, although they won’t be better than any bar within a few feet. The Roy Batty does the job, but it can sometimes be too sweet if the white rum, strawberry, yuzu, and sake aren’t mixed. A few sips will help you forget that outside of pulsating pop music, this place has nothing else to offer but the drink in your hand. Tuna Tataki The seared bluefin tuna here is thick-cut. The ponzu vinaigrette, sweet and spicy glaze, scallions, and salty masago do their best to give it some crunch and flavor. But overall, it’s just an average plate of lukewarm fish with some oniony bits. Tori Karaage These remind us of frozen Tyson nuggets drenched in teriyaki sauce that get topped with green onions to make them seem gourmet. You get the idea. The texture ranges from fatty to soggy, and the spicy mayo doesn’t help. Skip them. photo credit: Cody Aldrich Tonkotsu Chashumen The bone broth in this ramen is boiled over 24 hours, but there’s no depth of flavor to show for it. The marinated chashu pork tastes like a 3-D printer made it, and the shiitake, menma, red pickled ginger, sesame, and other assorted toppings can’t save it." - Candis R. McLean

The cutesttttttt underground restaurant I’ve been to in Philly that reminds me of New York. The aesthetics reminds me of a diner from the 90’s with LED lights on the wall. Just to inform you, if you go on the weekend DEFINITELY make a reservations just in case. We went to chika ramen bar on a Saturday but that was the day of Billie Eillish’s concert and the Phillies game so it wasn’t that pack but before we entered they did asked us if we had a reservations. The 2 seater table was cute but not very much spacious for my boyfriend and I because we ordered so much food hehe. They gave us time in between our appetizers and entrees to give us space on the table. I started off with a deckard cocktail and it was fruity but wasn’t strong which I like. I also loved the foamy top of the drink. We then ordered the tuna tataki, hamachi crudo, and spicy tuna rice crisps. Omgggg I can eat these 3 appetizers everytimeeeee. The raw fish was not really cold as I hoped it would be but it wasn’t warm, almost room temp. That kind of stood out to me but I didn’t get sick after so that was a good sign. The tuna crispy was deliciousssssss, the texture and the taste combined was everything plus some. For our entrees, we ordered the spicy chicken miso ramen and it was good as well I actually liked the broth and everything that was in it. We also ordered the poke-mon bowl… it was sooo good it was like a mixture of everything in a bowl. The flavors combined were delicious and it was definitely fulfilling. As a dessert, I decided to have the nexus-six and I’m sorry but it was disgusting. The cold foam was good but the espresso was absolutely disgusting. For 15$, the drink was super tiny, I should’ve just ordered another deckard. Other than that everything else was amazing.

If you have ever wanted to vibe to 90s hip hop throwbacks🎵and eat ramen, this is the spot for you! Sharing my honest review as there are a lot of different opinions. ⏳As there is no reservation system, we waited ~50min in line outside on a Friday night. Definitely a down side. 🍜Overall, the food was *good* - 3.5⭐️. Ramen and hand rolls were average. Spicy tuna crisps were dry and not our favorite. 🍹Loved our cocktails! A few unique options to choose from. 🎵Unlike some of the other reviews, I loved the music and vibes. The playlist isn’t quite what you would expect at a ramen restaurant, but I thought it was a great surprise! Overall, we will likely be back! Probably on a week night. Interested to try other options on the menu.

We've been meaning to get around to this Blade Runner inspired ramen restaurant, and we finally went on a Saturday night and got seated immediately. The servers were very nice and everything came out quickly. I thought the cocktails were just okay. The Bang Shrimp appetizer had a nice spicy kick to it, so I kept eating them even when my ramen showed up. The ramen itself was very good and hit the spot, although I don't know that it's better than other ramen places I've been. The space is a novelty and very cool; love that it's underground and neon.

We went on a Thursday night. Waited outside for a table of 2 for about 30 minutes. It's a new place and popular so go early or after 9pm. There is no reservation, first come first served. We sat at the bar which was super cool! That said we had an amazing time! I love ramen and I was very satisfied with theirs! It was more flavorful than many other restaurants. The Kara Kara Ramen was great - go for more spice it's worth it. My partner had incredible Shoyu Chashumen. Get extra egg and pickled ginger! The Blade Runner atmosphere is cool and definitely a draw. Good selection of Japanese drinks. Bartenders Talia and Dave were awesome. We will definitely be going back!

The ramen was good. The service was great. It's a cute hidden spot in Philly. I recommend if you're looking for something simple, chill, and has neo-tokyo vibes.

After waiting for all the hype of a new restaurant to subside, there was finally no long line to get inside. Service was exceptionally great (thanks to Charlie ) the decor is pretty dope 👍🏾👍🏾the food was delicious. My guest and I ordered the spicy chicken miso soup, the Tonkotsu Ramen w/ a marinated boiled egg, hand roll set A (tuna, salmon, yellowtail), sumo wings, and the tuna tataki. Everything we ordered was a big hit and tasty to the palate but those wiiiiings were "snack yo mama" delicious!!! I definitely recommend Chika Ramen Bar 🎯🎯🎯

Google
The vibe was cool but the place was over hyped. Waited 30-45 minutes outside which we didn’t mind since it was nice out, but not worth the wait. The service was prompt even though our meals came before appetizers and we were midway through when our final appetizer came. We got the traditional flavor and kara kara flavor. The char siu was cut thick and you’re given a decent portion, however it was chewy and tough to bite into. We’re used to it melting in your mouth. Mine also had a medium sized piece of fat floating around. The noodles were fine, a little chewy. The egg was hard boiled instead of soft boiled and the broth tasted average. I asked for spice 2 and it tasted like they just added chili oil to make it spicier. The bang shrimp app was probably the best part. The buns were meh, they used a wasabi sauce instead of an eel or hoisin sauce and the meat seemed fried maybe? But also a little on the dry side. The drinks were fine but I can’t say they were anything special. With all the ramen places in the city this is the last place to go. There is also a discount if you pay cash vs card.

Changing my 5 star review to 2 stars. Our last trip there we ended up walking out. They were out of just about everything. 60% of the menus was 86’d including cocktails and, according to the server, this is the norm. Great atmosphere but what is a restaurant with no food??

Yelp
Late night eats! Yum. Ramen. Sushi. Why not?! It's a few steps down from the street level so pay attention or you'll miss it. There's also a bar in there if you're looking for a drinking spot. Will we return? Yes.

Yelp
Chika is such a cozy ramen bar! We walked in without a reservation and sat at the bar, where the staff was super welcoming and friendly. The food was tasty, one of us had the shoyu ramen as is, while I opted for the same but swapped the pork for chicken, and both were amazing. The broth was rich, the noodles were perfect, and the flavors were well-balanced. Bartender was friendly as well but not so much the man that told me to move my jacket from the barstool when the bar was mostly empty. Deducting a star for that. Definitely recommend checking it out though!

Yelp
Ambiance is based off of blade runner anime show! Tonkotsu Chashumen (3pc chashu) was creamy and filling. I wish it was spicier, but it's okay because one could just add the spicy flakes to it. Came in on a Sunday evening and service was quick and peaceful.

Yelp
Food: A great place for late night shareables! We ordered the Spicy Tuna Rice Crisps (highly recommended), Sumo Wings (good but not great), Tori Karaage (highly recommended) and Tonkotsu Ramen (also good but not great) Service: Our server was wonderful! She let us know that we were dining during happy hour and recommended we check out the 1/2 off apps. She was friendly and energetic. Ambiance: Such a cool vibe! The restaurant being underground with pink & purple neon lights, awesome music and retro decor made the experience that much better.

Yelp
I've been wanting to come here for a while and I'm so glad they take reservations now! The inside of this restaurant has a very cool vibe with the lighting inspired by the Blade Runner. For drinks, they were out of their espresso martini so I ordered the Roy Batty which was very delicious. For food I ordered the spicy miso chicken ramen, which was perfectly salty and the chicken was nice and tender. However, I wouldn't consider this ramen to be spicy at all. Cons: my friend asked for a glass to transfer her canned drink to, and the glass they gave her was wet and visibly dirty. When she asked for another one, they gave her yet another wet cup. I assume this cup was clean but I've never been to a restaurant where they don't dry the dishes properly before giving them to customers. In addition, while the servers and staff were very nice, service was quite slow despite it not being very crowded in the restaurant. We found ourselves waiting a long time to get the check and leave. Finally, the door was left open and there were little flies and mosquitos buzzing around as we ate, which was distracting. Overall, the vibes of this place are cool. The ramen is good but nothing very special. And there are still some kinks to be worked out with service and the overall standards of the restaurant.

Yelp
I would probably rate this place a 3.5/5 so I just rounded up. The food is good-- don't get me wrong I enjoyed it-- but I do think it is a touch over priced. The space is amazing. It looks just like all the pictures of it. I had hand roll set A, miso chicken ramen, spicy tuna rice, and the tuna tataki. All were good. I was satisfied eating it, but nothing compels me to come back. The service is what you would expect: standard. I was pleased with this. While making a reservation, it prompts you on if there is a specific reason you're coming in which I was there for a birthday, but it was never mentioned. Not that this is necessary, but I think that's a good example of an easy way the service could've been above and beyond.

Yelp
Ramen review #25 This is a restaurant that has a really good vibe. It has cool lighting and is in the basement. I think a lot of people would come here for dinner. I got the ramen, and here were my thoughts. Soup is good, but it was spicy in the wrong way. This was a 2/5 spice but the oil had no flavor of garlic or anything. I was a good spice level but I think it was masking that the broth wasn't super super hearty. The Ramen noodles were good Pork unfortunately had a strong "pork" taste because it wasn't really marinated for a long time. This was probably the meaty taste. Spicy pork was good tho (which they gave in addition) Egg wasn't marinated even though temps are good. And nice texture for the egg, but again, should be marinated. Unfortunately I think there are a few options that are better in center city. But this place might be fun later at night as they have non-ramen options. Just know that this isn't a dedicated ramen spot.

Yelp
Stopped here while on the hunt for ramen Friday night. After our first choice turned into a total dud and was too busy, I made the executive decision to walk to another place (this one). Vog got fussy with me and hurt my feelings, but I bit my lip and we trekked another 1/8 mile to this location and walked in. It is located on the bottom floor of a building and really, if it not for the neon sign you may blink and miss it. We walked in and got very lucky with a booth in the back and were sat immediately. We ordered several appetizers - gyoza and buns. The gyoza was about as standard as it comes. The buns were very good and loaded with toppings. For my ramen - I went with the standard Tonkotsu and added egg. Of course I forgot to say hold the shoots and shrooms so Vog got extra from me. It was a good meal, which we earned by walked 2 miles to get there.

Yelp
I fell into the social media hype and foolishly stood in line for too long to get a seat at the bar for good ramen. It's good, not exceptional enough to stand in a line in the cold. The space is electric and funky, but again, not blow your socks off cool enough to stand in a line. I had the Veggie Ramen and my husband had the Spicy Chicken Ramen. Both were good and portions are nice and large. My two critiques: You can't reserve a table unless you're a food influencer. There was one table reserved and we noticed it was for a couple that skipped the line and had plate after plate brought to them. Lights and camera phones out snapping pics. The servers were piling up all the dirty plates on the bar right next to us. It would have been kind of ok if the bar tenders took them away quickly, but they did not. Definitely not cool and gross.

Yelp
This place has been all over social media recently, so my boyfriend and I, being the ramen lovers that we are, made our way into to try this Blade Runner inspired basement Ramen joint. Probably the worst thing about this place is that it's first come first serve-- but that's typical in Japan, so i didn't find it too annoying. Also it weeds about people that really don't want to be there, only people who REALLY want to try a place. It looks like this place used to be a diner, but they've outfitted everything with ambient neon lights and mirrors (I've never seen Blade Runner). The front half is a typical diner setup of counter space seating and small 2/4 top tables, and then the back of the restaurant is larger booths that they use for communal seating (fine by me) and then two larger tables if you're willing to wait. Okay now let's get to the food & drinks, we got: --Tori Karaage ($12.00) Japanese boneless fried chicken, sweet sauce, spicy mayo --Tonkotsu Chashumen ($17.00) with 3pc Chashu is their signature hakata style "tonkotsu" (pork bone broth boiled over 24 hrs) noodle soup w/ marinated chashu pork, shiitake, menma, red pickled ginger, sesame, scallions & drizzled w/ roasted garlic oil, served w/ straight noodles. --Shoyu Chashumen ($17.00) with 3pc Chashu, is their soy-flavored wavy noodle soup, topped w/ marinated chashu pork, shiitake, menma, red pickled ginger, naruto, sesame, & scallions, served with wavy noodles. --Ajitama ($2.00) 2 Marinated Boiled Eggs (two for each ramen we added). --Electric Sheep ($14.00) Japanese Gin, Cherry Blossom Calpico, Elderflower Tonic, Strawberry Bubbles -- Deckard ($15.00) Japanese Whisky, Cherry Shochu, St Germaine, Citrus, Egg White Of the two ramens the Shoyu Chashumen was the clear favorite. The brother was so flavorful and just vastly outshined the other. If you've got enough broth over you can ask for more noodles for $4.00 (which is so Japanese, I LOVE IT). Any-- I loved this place and will surely come back once it's gets warmer outside cause waiting outside is only going to get worse as the winter goes on.

Yelp
First time visiting. There were positives and negatives to the experience but I'm open to returning. It was a bit warm that day and when we entered we were told to sit anywhere we liked. We picked a table near the front and started to realize it was getting hot in there. We felt no cold air or any air circulation at all. Our server said the air was on but the heat from the kitchen was overpowering it. Uhh... was this really not figured out before opening for business? It's our fault for having hot soup on a warm evening but, restaurants are supposed to have AC in the summer I thought. We were given water with no ice. I looked to the people at the bar who also had food and they DID have ice. Uhh... and no one refilled our water. We got sodas that had ice at least but no one asked to refill those either. Our food was brought out by someone else, when our server came by the one time to check on us they asked how it was which was nice. We had not yet finished water or soda but that was really the only time we saw the server. When we were done the server was playing on their phone in the back for a while. Later when getting the check we are told there actually is cool air way in the back but no one said anything earlier or offered to move us when we said we were uncomfortable from the stuffy air. Aside from the stuffy heat and lack of ice and drink refills, the soups came out fast and tasted great. I got a fried tofu appetizer which tasted great too. There was no silverware, only chopsticks and the little broth spoon. If they have silverware as an alternative option they didn't tell us. There was also no salt/pepper or anything else on our table except for drink menus. If they have it as an option, again no one told us. The music was cool, not super loud. The other customers there all seemed nice, no one being too loud or annoying. The place looked pretty clean, as soon as people at the bar left, guys came around to clean the area up nicely. There were no bad smells or anything. It's a well kept place - just super stuffy hot air. Maybe I'll go back when it's cold outside!

Yelp
I love this spot! Shep the bartender is the best! The food is excellent - absolutely love the spicy ramen here. The drinks are also wonderful, and I'm appreciative that they have several mocktails. Pro tip: add the strawberry popping bubbles to your cocktail or mocktail. The vibe is so cool, looking straight out of Blade Runner, & the service is always fast and excellent. Definitely one of my favorite spots in Center City.

Yelp
Food 5/10 Atmosphere 7/10 Service 8/10 Tips: it is currently opening week, so lines are out the door, average wait time is 15 to 30 minutes for a table, a little bit less for Bar seating area. Inside is very crowded, it's like a narrow alleyway inside a basement, but there are tables for more than four people in the back room. Food ordered: kara kara ramen $17, salmon roll $5, chashu burger $12. To be honest, I've had better ramen in Philadelphia, the broth was good but tasted like instant ramen soup, there was only one piece of meat, just a lot of vegetables and mushrooms. The noodles were stuck together and I was not impressed. The Chashu "burgers" were soooooo meh. The buns and meats were both cold, and the vegetable just made it really soggy. And for the price of $12, I think I have had better and other restaurants. The salmon roll in my opinion, was honestly the best part of the meal, those who she was pretty fresh. I understand why this restaurant is hype, atmosphere is pretty hip, they play good 2000s hip-hop music. But for the price I would get ramen at Terakawa. As a first date spot location, it is way too crowded to hear anything, so I don't recommend, maybe a third date spot?

Yelp
Cool lately night vibe. I tried coming to this place on its opening week and the lines were down the street so I was excited to see no lines my second time giving this place a try. The service was pretty fair, no complaints. I had the veggie ramen which was delicious, however, my only suggestion would be to cook the seasoned eggs for less time and marinate them longer... They lacked color and flavor and were a bit on the overcooked but other than that I would definitely come here again!

Yelp
Chika Ramen Bar's second night open (first Friday) required patience for those waiting in the line that stretched down Sansom Street, but the service once you approached the door (and were seated) was friendly and helpful! The neon lighting was fun (though makes for terrible food pics) and the music (heavy on the hip hop) was bumping. Highly recommend ordering appetizers: we tried the: - Pork Gyoza (Berkshire pork, kimchi, red pepper mustard), which had terrific zing--great kimchi! - Spicy Tuna Rice Crisps (seared sushi rice, tuna tartare, jalapeno), gotta love a good rice crisp, though the jalapeno overpowered the tuna a bit! - Tori Karaage (Japanese boneless fried chicken, blistered shishitos, spicy aioli) We tried the Tonkotsu (1 piece chashu) and the Kara Kara Tonkotsu (spice level 4) ramen with wavy noodles subbed in for the straight noodles and an Atijama (marinated boiled egg) added to both. The pork was tender and flavorful. The marinated egg could have had more time in the marinade. We wished for the table extras offered by other ramen shops so we could pump up the spice level with some spicy oil or add some crunch with garlic chips or sesame seeds, but overall thought they were solid bowls of ramen.

Abigail H.

Yelp
Pros: the vibes are great, the staff is great. No complaints about the service or decor/resturant setup Cons: they were out of a ton of stuff. We were told there was no sushi chef on staff, so we could not order any sushi (which was half of their menu). They were also out of house sake which composed half of their happy hour menu. We ordered ramen and you had to pay to add eggs to your ramen- which seemed odd because ramen typically comes with eggs. I love the ramen eggs, so I added a double order (and paid for it) only to have my ramen come and there are HARD boiled eggs that are not marinated in the slightest (look at picture, they're fully white). I was very dissapointed because that was my favorite part. We also got the fried ice cream, and the batter they use for the ice cream must be recycled from the appetizers, because it was actually salty and savory, which was really odd with the ice cream. Overall- I would not reccomend this place. If they fixed their stock issues and product quality, maybe, but I was very dissapointed by our experience here. I came as a Christmas dinner gift from my company and this did not feel like a celebration given all of the issues we had.

Yelp
The ambiance and music playing will for sure put you in a good mood it such a fun environment As a vegan customer loved the food options they had, I tried the Veggie Hiyashi Chuka and it was absolutely perfect! My friend had the Kara Kara Tonkotsu and she really enjoyed it too! The service was great from the greeters out in front to the servers they are all very nice and considerate :))

Yelp
Great atmosphere with their Blade Runner Theme. Enjoyed some Japanese drinks with an app and ramen on this cold snowy day.

Yelp
This place has only been open a few months and i finally made my way to test it out. Absolutely love the retro vibe for the interior. It gives the space a unique / underground club feel to it. I kind of loved the fact the tables in the back room are designed to be sharable with other parties as it adds to the communal experience of the place. The waitstaff was really helpful in deciding which ramen to choose and gave a really good recommendation. I absolutely LOVED my ramen. I think any doubt over the quality of the food I had was immediately restored upon tasting the broth of this dish. It was really well done, so flavorful and the noodles were awesome. I've already made this a top choice for cool date nights and will be back again.

Yelp
Bright neon basement atmosphere. It's great for drinks and perhaps even first date. Came here with some friends after hearing about the "blade runner" theme. I haven't seen the movie yet but I heard it was good. The menu is quite simple. Most people come here for the ramen. I think it took 30 min for it to come out. Tasted average comparing to Ippudo. When I got home the left overs congealed overnight. I guess there was that much fat in the soup that it's not even soup... Probably wouldn't come back for the ramen.

Yelp
I tried out Chika with three of my friends and we had a great time! The atmosphere definitely can't be beat, but I will say normally they have only one four-seater table and the other options are sitting at the bar for a party as large as ours. This is best for just a date night or catching up with only one other friend just so you're not waiting for forever. We really lucked out and the greeter at the door was able to open up their back area (which isn't always open) to seat us at a table, but you can expect waiting in line for a bit. The inside is really cute, the neon lights everywhere are a vibe and it's just super fun. The menu had a lot of good ramen options, I didn't love that you had to pay extra for a classic ramen egg, but eh. The noodle texture was great, not too overdone and nice and chewy but still soft. The broth was also great. I think the pork charsiu could have been a little more tender. I think overall, the ramen was solid but had some noticeable points I think could be better. The drinks were delicious though, I didn't take pictures of everyone's but they had a lot of different options and were enjoyable. The names are all Bladerunner references of course. The server was great in helping us choose as well. Pictured in my review is the Deckard and the Roy Batty if I'm remembering corrrectly, and everyone of course tried each other's and pretty much liked every option we got. I got the Electric Sheep, and the popping boba was a great touch to the cocktail. Service in general was excellent, and I think I would come again but mostly for the vibes. Again, the line is truly not bad but only if you're a party of 2. For context, we went around 5ish or so during a Saturday night so really wasn't the worst.

Yelp
This was a really cool spot. They played really good music! Cocktails were nice but they are a bit expensive but you have to try a couple. The ramen was absolutely delicious! (Get a side of the spicy chili sauce, trust me) the bartenders were nice and attentive. I would definitely come again!

Yelp
My friend and I came here on a Friday night on the earlier end because all we had been hearing was how crowded this place had been during the first few weeks of it being open. We were able to get in just fine and they had a sign saying seat yourself so we chose a nice little booth near the bar for two. Our waitress was very friendly and checked in with us at reasonable intervals. We ordered ramens since it was a little chilly and we just wanted to warm up and I got the shoyu ramen. The waitress asked how many pork pieces I wanted, 1 or 3, I wasn't starving so I just got one and I think that was the right choice. My friend got the kara kara ramen but I don't remember if she was asked the same question so it might just be specific to the type you get. We also ordered the More Human Than Human which is described on the menu as such: Shochu, Fresh Citrus, Fresh Ginger Syrup, Bubbles We both liked this a lot, we have both been to Japan in the last year and we're looking for something resembling the lemon sours we had enjoyed there. We also thought having something refreshing alongside our ramen would be smart and it definitely was. The shoyu ramen was surprisingly rich. The noodles were on the firmer side but honestly I preferred that bc I'm not a fast eater and they were still a good texture throughout the meal. I thought I might take leftovers when I saw the bowl but the broth and noodles were just up my alley so I ended up eating all the noodles/fixings. I had to leave some broth because it was very rich. My friend did the same thing but we both can say we enjoyed this place a lot more than our usual work lunch spot nearby because the flavors were just deeper and the noodles had a nice chew. Overall also the ambiance was very cool. It does make taking pictures hard but it's very sleek and well done in my opinion. It's also different enough compared to how federal donuts had the space set up the couple times I went when they previously occupied this space. There aren't many large groups tables here (I think they'd mostly be situated in the back room) so I wouldn't bother trying to get in here too late with more than 4 people but for two it was very easy and we could have sat at the bar as well.

Yelp
I went to Chika last night for dinner there was about a 30 minute wait but it went by quickly and we got a seat at the bar in about 10 minutes. Off the bat, the vibrant neon colors give the restaurant a unique look, unlike any ramen place in Philly. The bartenders were phenomenal they made a fantastic mocktail. The food service was pretty quick. For apps, we ordered the Ebi burger, spicy tuna rice crisps, and sumo wings. The apps hit the spot you definitely can't go wrong with the spicy tuna rice crisps. I was a bit disappointed in the ramen, I had gotten the spicy chicken ramen. The miso broth and chicken were some of the best I ever had. Normally chicken is super dry in Raman's but this chicken was nice and tender. The noodles however were not the best. They were super starchy which I did not like.

Yelp
Waited 30 min to be sat on a Sunday night, which wasn't too bad but once seated we waited 10+ min for our server to come over, 20+ to place our orders but it was NOT the server's fault!! She explained that all night, all tables had been sat at the same time starting from open so all tables were being flipped and then reset at the same times. Not a big deal, we weren't in a rush, but knocked off 1 star just for the poor staffing (but server let us know they'd have a full staff this coming week so perhaps others will have a quicker experience). The food was incredible! Started with the gyoza, which were fried in a light batter that reminded me of an egg roll shell. A nice starter with a hint of kick. We split a salmon hand roll which they offered to split for us to share, simple and tasty. The chicken miso ramen was great, with tasty broth and juicy tender chicken. The food all came out quickly, which made up for our long wait. Overall we had a pleasant experience, with reasonable prices and a cool vibe. Definitely would like to be back to try more of their menu offerings.

Yelp
My friend wanted to check this out since it just opened so we came on Saturday around 6:30 PM and got in around 7:10. Food: We got ramen, chicken karage, gyoza and agedashi tofu. The main concern we had was the temperature of the ramen and tofu. The soup was lukewarm, and the mushrooms and bamboo was just cold. Also, the temperature of the food doesn't instill the highest confidence in the diners regarding sanitation of the place. The tofu also tasted as if it were fried then left out for 15 minutes until it was brought to us. Random side note: the green onions were not sliced through for garnish so there were just big halfway cut scallions on the food. Gyoza was good though

Yelp
Line was intimidating, but only took up to 15 minutes. Quick for 2 people! Larger inside than I expected, it goes deep into the building. Best appetizers and ramen bowls we've ever had Tuna rice crackers, gyoza, and bang shrimp Sake cups And then I got Deckhard cocktail Tonkotsu Chashumen (3pc Chashu) ramen bowl And spicy chicken ramen bowl We both added spicy paste I added marinated boiled egg and bean sprouts We went twice in 24 hours Love it thank you can't wait to come back

Yelp
So this place has been getting crazy hype since it first open. The atmosphere is great and the music was good a lot of old school hip hop was been played when I went around 4 pm. Then towards 5 pm it started to get real busy. They didn't offer happy hour when I was there but was told they will start it the following week. I ordered the miso ramen which was pretty average. To drink I got a Japanese gin drink that was okay.

Yelp
Overall the service and the food were fine. However the environment was not. Me and my friends got sat at the front and there were spiderwebs and flies everywhere. Also they played the same two songs on repeat and it got very annoying.

Yelp
We discovered this place after getting into Philadelphia after a late flight. Everything was a 10/10. The food was fresh and flavorful. The service was friendly and unpressured. And the spot is just so cute!

Yelp
We got the Kara Kara Tontaksu and Spicy Chicken Miso Ramens. Service was really nice and the ramen was very good

Yelp
Come for the vibe, stay for the food. This is cool little ramen bar with upbeat music, great service, good food, and fun vibe. Sat at the bar on a Friday night. Got some Japanese beers, chicken skewers, spicy tuna crisps, and ramen. All were great!

Yelp
very nice neon lights in chika. over all the place is a retro looking diner. (be warned it is cold in there) came for lunch and we arrived before the rush. got our order in and received our drinks. then didn't see the server again til we finished eating and needed the check. my friends all got ramen which were very large portions and they said it was good! i wasn't too hungry so had 2 appetizers. the tori karaage had good flavoring in it! the veggie maki roll was bland.

Yelp
As a former expat that spent several years living in Japan I was excited to try a new ramen restaurant. We went on a day where there was a snow storm and the restaurant was significantly understaffed. All of the staff were doing their best to take care of the guests. The manager, Mo, was aware that service was slow and was sincerely apologetic and went out of her way to make sure that our dining experience was enjoyable despite the delay. She encouraged us to go back again when they were properly staffed. We did return and I have to say wonderful things about the quality of the food and the service. Rachel remembered us from the prior evening and even remembered my husband's beer order. Mo was there and was happy to see us back. A real quality place that is well run and simulates an authentic Japanese dining experience.

Yelp
What a cute retro spot in the heart of center city! We went after lunch time to beat the rush and it was worth it! We were in a hurry so we just ordered ramen and it was delicious as ever! Service was speedy and ramen came out piping hot. I really appreciated the fact that they had rice noodles which is hard to come by at ramen spots!

Yelp
Listen, the wait was long- but oh my god was the food amazing. We shared the Tonkotsu Chashuman and added eggs. Amazing broth, eggs cooked perfectly. The shisito peppers were delicious. The hand rolls were amazing, my favorite was the yellow tail. The wings were super crispy and the bang shrimp were perfectly sweet and salty. The drinks were delicious, my favorite was the Electric Sheep, but the Hannibal Chew was so interesting. Bitter, then sweet. Our server was really nice and attentive. The music was great, the lights were so cool, and the vibe was just what we were looking for.

Yelp
I love this new ramen spot! The vibe is really cool. You walk below the street into a neon lit space that feels very cool. The food was also delicious. I loved everything we got- the Spicy Tuna Crisps, the Pork Gyoza and the Kara Kara Tonkotsu Ramen were all really good! The cocktails are also super unique. We tried the Hannibal chew that was more savory than you'd expect (thankfully our server warned us before we committed) but it turned out to be very interesting and tasty.

Yelp
Amazing ambiance; all the neon lights/signs heightened the street ramen shop vibes! Had the Tonkutso (and spicy chicken) both were an absolute 10/10!! The broth was savory and bursting in unami flavors. I was soooo stuffed, I didn't get to try the fried ice cream but will definitely be back to try it.

Yelp
The ambiance of Chika ramen bar was so fun and lively with lots of neon lights. The ramen was good- I liked the broth for the tonkotsu ramen. I also ordered the 'more human than human' cocktail, but it tasted very watered down.

Neil W.

Yelp
Food was excellent, but the ambiance was terrible. I ordered a Tonkotsu Ramen, which was tasted fantastic. There was plenty of noodles and pork, although it would have been nice to have an egg in there too. Cocktails were also great. However, the restaurant did not have air conditioning, and REEKED of gasoline. It was a humid summer Philly evening, and with an open kitchen, the room was unbearably hot. Our poor waitress had to hug a box fan when not actually serving food. I have no clue how a restaurant can be comfortable opening in 2024 without A/C, but Chika Ramen has somehow managed to convince themselves that this is acceptable. The gasoline smell was overpowering- it felt like I was sitting in a gas station, not a restaurant. Frankly, it did not feel safe... If there's a takeout/delivery option, choose that. If not, don't bother going, unless you're a bit of a masochist.

Yelp
I had great time here at Chika Ramen Bar. The ramen and drinks were both equally amazing. The staff is very welcoming and attentive. The ambiance is very cozy and the interior fits well. 5 stars for you!

Yelp
Got out orders wrong. Food was as good as any other ramen joint, just more expensive. Service was slow and our server gave us a lot of attitude. Cool looking bar, but middle of the road food.

Yelp
We made a reservation for our anniversary and were so excited to try after the many rave reviews and videos we had seen online. When we got there, the entire sushi menu was covered in masking tape as well as some items on other parts of the menu. I don't know if this is temporary or not, but it would have been nice if the website was updated or if there was some kind of very obvious announcement somewhere that much of the menu was not available. The ambience was cool but maybe a little dingier than I expected from the pictures. The staff was very friendly.

Yelp
Was really excited to try this spot. Arrived around 12:15pm, so 15 minutes after opening. No one greeted us, we had to walk to the end of the bar to ask if they were open. We ordered cocktails and were told they couldn't serve us because there was no bartender. We ordered lunch, our appetizer was served without plates or silverware. The ramen was bland, uninspired, hardly any flavor. The karaage was not crispy, underdressed and missing a side of spicy mayo. The ambience did not feel Japanese or Blade Runner inspired.

Yelp
Love the ambiance, coziness and vibe at Chika, food is great and happy hour deal is awesome

Yelp
These Ramen devours come all the way from the new ramen spot on the block @chikaramenbar in downtown Philadelphia. This ramen bar is located on Sampson Street between 15th and 16th and Sampson Street. This ramen Bar is very unique because its theme is mimicked after I seen on blade runner the original. While here I ordered a nonalcoholic Mocktail that was simply delicious. I also ordered the salt and pepper wings while also ordering the chicken Ramen with edit supplements such as an egg, bean sprouts, and shrimp. The food was absolutely delicious. The bathrooms are clean. The staff was very welcoming and easy to talk to. I really enjoyed my time here so if you are in the mood for some bomb ass Ramen, please check out @chikaramenbar and of course, tell him Shimmy sent you! #food #foodie #foodporn #foodblogger #foodphotography #philadelphia #phillyfoodie #water #chicken #ramen #ramennoodles #ramenlover #centercityphilly #datenight #outside

Yelp
Super cute and unique ramen spot. Food was delicious! Employees were extremely kind! Definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
We have gone twice and the food is very good. The prices are pretty decent and the theme and decor is pretty cool. The servers were decent both times no problems with anything really. Got seated in the back twice but I wish I could have been seated up front. Pretty busy when we went both times and food came out pretty fast.
