Used to really like this place. Most recent experience has me never going back. Food has gone from exceptional to horrible over the years as the prices have climbed. Recently bought some nachos and a Birria taco plate. Photos speak for themselves. Nacho’s are flavorless and bland, the only redeeming quality is the meat. The taco plate is like a make your own taco plate but the ingredients are all dry and terrible like a boring rice bowl. $40 for this

The service is good . They have plenty of parking . I ordered the steak quesadilla with a Mexican Soda. The cost was about $20.00 . The quesadilla came with guacamole, sour cream , and pico de gallo included in the price . The food portions were good . They were generous with the guacamole as well . The bathrooms were clean and the establishment was clean . They have amble seating inside and outside . I chose to eat outside on this beautiful evening my dinner , which I mentioned above . They have free mints in the front counter. 🙏🏼

I'm sorry to write a mediocre review, but our experience was sub-par in comparison with other taquerias. Convenient location near a mall with a free parking lot. Beautiful interior decor, clean restrooms. The first issue is that there were no prices on the menu, which makes it unfair for customers. Prices are pretty high, $16 for 3 biria tacos, which were very greasy and salty. The chicken burrito was good and fairly priced, under $11. Seating was not so comfortable, either the table is too high or the chairs are too low. They don't provide real utensils, only disposable, and no plates for sharing. Also no cups and free water, as seen at Tango Mango for example. Lastly, the cashier lady was not so friendly or service oriented. She was too busy around lunch time, taking care of walk-in customers and also phone orders. Somehow other places manage to do it better and make customers feel welcomed and appreciated.

Another great find from searching Google maps. Great atmosphere with tasty food. I had the fish Burrito with black beans, rice, mixed vegetables and cheese. My wife had vegetable enchiladas with black beans and rice. Plus, a from Mexico glass bottle Coca Cola. Staff seemed nice. Very nice restroom. If you are in the area, I can suggest trying out Chilacates.

Really tasty tortas and enchiladas. The seating is a little tight and is really on suitable for 3 moderate sized groups. So don't have high expectations of being able to dine in.

My go to take-out place. Chilacates is an easy dinner or lunch spot with great food and kind workers. The restaurant is decorated beautifully and eating in is always a treat. The bowl of mints at the ordering counter is the nicest touch!

Good lunch. however a little time consuming. the food took 10 minutes to assemble. the environment is cool. receptionist service was good the food was cold but the mexican type taste i like. for the amount of food served I thought the price was high.

Pretty lame $18 burrito, $21 after 15% tip. Meat was tough, avocado peel from the guac in the burrito, pretty small, lacking any flavor. What I would expect of a $5 burrito, not a $20 one.

Nice little Mexican takeout restaurant with a few bench seats and a table. The food is pretty tasty, the carnitas were moist, the grilled chicken are small bites and a little dry. It is not pricy but was surprised that a little container of salsa was $3 and quac was $2 . You can definitely pick up a container of salsa at whole foods for $6 and 10x the quantity. The team was really nice and patient with us. They have a sign about notifying them if you have food allergies but does not have a clue what ingredients are in their dishes. I'm not sure how letting them know you have allergies is helpful... We ordered tacos with carnitas, flautas with spicy pork and some taco salads. We got the salad perfectly with no cheese and dressing on the side. The tacos came with spicy pork and the flautas came with carnitas. Then as I watched them prepare the foods, the young lady was preparing a container. Part way; she must have made a mistake because she poured everything back out and placed the emptied container back on top of the stack of the other empty containers. The management team needs to go through food prep training & certification.

" Place has good food & it's cheap " Food is fresh and good . It's in a central location in the street in chestnuthill. The food is priced cheap especially for the area . The portion sizes are generous. I definitely recommend this place . Oh staff is friendly and place is clean . Bathrooms are well kept . Lots of parking for free in the lot so no worries. The vibe is welcoming.

$18 PLUS all those delivery fees for rice, beans, barely any steak hastily tossed in a dry wrap and that's it? Nope, never again. Really bad.

Not good, and it seems like they've increased prices a lot. Quality has gone down tremendously since we first came here when it opened over a year ago. $16 for a quesadilla with just chicken and cheese? Everything was lacking flavor and felt like it had been kept warm in a water bath (including the tortillas which were soggy). Would not recommend you go.

The food here is pretty decent. Chicken well seasoned and cooked, but the portions leave much to be desired as do the sides/additions. Would be nice to have more choices. Staff at this location are very rude, and worst part of the experience.

Fast casual Mexican in the Chestnut Hill area that was decent but not great. Located in an upscale shopping center a few minutes away from BC, it's a pretty popular spot for people to grab and go although they have a few seats if you're inclined to stay. I got a bowl with carnitas and it was just ok. Overall the flavors were pretty tame and I needed to add some hot sauce to perk up the taste buds. The jamaica was a tad too sweet and the horchata was just ok. While I'm making this place sound bad, its not, I just have a picky palate when it comes to Mexican food since I'm a bit spoiled having eaten a lot in Queens, NYC. If you're looking for a decent priced burrito in the area, you could do far worse.

Have been eating here a long time and everything I've tried here is top quality Mexican. I personally love the Chicken tinga quesadilla.

Welp they did it again. Cut the meat portion by 50% yet again. Burritos are darn near unrecognizable now. They kind of seem like they're done with this place to be honest, like nobody wants to be there anymore. They should just close up because nobody really wants this half hearted food anymore either.

I was very exciting to try this place and was pretty disappointed. The food wasn't hot when it was delivered which is always a pet peeve of mine. Flavor was pretty bland as well for somewhere that advertises itself as mexican street food. It appears the bowl and the Mexican plate were identical despite the different descriptions. I may go back - but if I do I'd just play it safe with a burrito

I used to go fairly often. JP locations were better I stopped going because chestnut hill was low quality. I got the Al pastor a few weeks ago in Jamaica plain after not going for a long time and it was good, but expensive. Passing through Chestnut Hill I just got 2 al pastor tacos and they are absolutely disgusting. I've never left a review on yelp at all but these tiny baby tacos were $11 (plus tip after), the meat is soggy I don't even feel comfortable eating it. I don't even think it's even properly seasoned al pastor, worst of all it's like they soaked the meat in water or poured it on top making a soggy mess. I won't return. Do not go to chestnut hills locations and check your orders if you do... I would not have paid if I saw how it looked. I almost feel bad leaving this review but putting food out like this shows the workers don't care, plus service is mediocre. JP locations have better food and workers so check those out.

Ugh- this place is super mediocre. I really get the sense they are phoning it in and the quality is sub par. The few times I've eaten here the food had been under seasoned or unseasoned- salt is your friend! The rice and beans are bland as well. There's better Mexican out there. Find it.

Overall really good Mexican restaurant. I think people do a lot of takeout here. Interior is super cute and cleanly. The menu had a ton of options including tacos, burritos, salads, bowls, and even enchiladas. They also had a few specials which were Burria tacos and churros. Another thing to note is they do have a kids menu if you are coming with your family. The one thing I will say is it is extremely expensive. Two tacos were 16$. They did have a lot of toppings though.

I've been to the JP location when it first opened and loved the food. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out they have a location on Route 9 in Newton. Unfortunately, their food was nothing like their JP location. I got the al pastor taco salad, and despite having beans, cheese, and pork in the salad, the food was surprisingly bland. Maybe I'll have to try another dish from this location.

Absolute rip off for quantity to price. Smallest burrito i have ever laid eyes on in my entire life for $11. Why would you ever go here over chipotle? The quality of ingredients doesn't even out match them, and chipotle is a chain!!!

We were really excited to try this place based off the great reviews here on Yelp. Unfortunately we weren't too impressed. We ordered chips and quac, one elote ($4), one chicken burrito and one papas chorizo burrito which totaled to be $40. $0.75 for a small scoop of sour cream was ridiculous.. I was really disappointed with the elote. It tasted burnt and filled with smoke. Took two bites and threw it out. What a waste. They skimped out in the meat and mainly filled the burrito with rice and beans. The chips were thin and fresh which was good but sadly we didn't come here for the chips-- we came here for the food.. Overall, this place is expensive for unflavored food. Their prices are probably high because of where they are located and they need to some how pay for rent, but at the end of the day the food here is not worth it. You're better off going to East Boston for some delicious authentic Mexican food.

Hit the spot! I stopped by after some shopping and had the carnitas quesadilla. It was the perfect portion and it also came with pico de gallo, sour cream and guac. The service was fast too, I only had to wait a few minutes and this was around 1130 so they were getting quite busy. Very small place, most people were doing take out. They have some outdoor tables too. I'll defiantly be back next time I'm in the area!

I actually just left this place and had to write a review immediately because of how impressed I was. I hate to say it but I'm personally a little bit of a snob when it comes to Mexican food - but this was amazing. Alongside great service and a friendly, smiling staff this place doesn't miss. I ordered two chicken tinga tacos, wolfed em down and immediately ordered two more because of how impressed I was lol. Finding authentic tacos in Boston has proven to be a little difficult but these really hit the spot with great attention to detail. I love that they're served with solely onions, cilantro, and radish instead of beans, rice and cheese etc and the addition of the hot sauce on the side as well as the wedge of lime really make the experience hit close to home. The chicken was delicious and well seasoned without being too messy and over the top and the handmade tortilla was delicious. All in all, great quality - no fuss but I also noticed they had a good amount of appetizers and sides if you're looking to add a little more to your meal. I will definitely be a returning customer!

Pros: -Lots of options for proteins Cons: -Guac is $1.50 extra for most "canvases" (burrito, quesadilla, etc.), and $0.50 extra per taco. -No clear place where to put trays back--they need a sign! -- I tried the Grilled Chicken and Pork en Chile Verde tacos ($7.49 with guacamole on one) and the corn tortillas were super thick and chewy, which for me was a bit too much but some might enjoy. I'll opt for a burrito or quesadilla next time. Protein-wise, the grilled chicken was pretty bland but the pork en chile verde was good. The guacamole was refreshing but sadly didn't have any spice to it.

More accurately 3.5 stars Nothing wrong with it, but it fails to stand out amongst the other burrito places in Boston. The burrito is well constructed and it's unlikely that you will feel like the burrito is going to fall apart. However, the flavoring is okay. There are certainly better options that may be cheaper and more flavorful

Great but super busy and incredibly pricey. Tasted great and the staff tried really hard to keep up with the insane demand. Only one table to sit at. Just one. It had 4 seats. It is meant to be a take out place. Great bathroom.

I'm not the biggest fan of Mexican food, but this a solid spot to grab some in Chestnut Hill! A pretty small storefront with a few tables and bench seating, but interesting decor from the chairs to the wall decor. I ordered a quesadilla and elote. The quesadilla came with guac, sour cream, and salsa for dips. Plenty of meat and cheese inside and overall pretty tasty. Corn is out of season, so not the best elote I've had since it was a little soggy, but the cheesy flavor was there! They also sell wild pops here, which I am a huge fan of, but unfortunately they didn't have any at the time I went. It's a good place to stop and grab a quick bite of food!

NOT SAFE FOR VEGETARIANS. I specifically ordered a veggie tostada, but I received an order filled with chicken. Since it was to-go, I couldn't rectify the issue. Staff need to be more careful with following the order tickets.

This isn't one of those fast casual places where you pick out every single ingredient to complete your dish. I actually prefer when I can pick out what I want. After we ordered, I realized that it's not really that fast. It took some time before the order was ready for us to grab. I decided on a bowl with beef tongue and gauc. To my surprise, it did not come in a bowl. It's an oval plate of food. The beef tongue had good texture but was too salty to me. I had to scoop it with the other stuff on my plate to lessen the saltiness per bite. Don't take the menu too literally?

I lived in Mexico City for years. I am constantly on the hunt for good Mexican good. I really wanted to love this place. It was okay. Here's my take: - ambiance is cute (love the bsthroom) - service is so so - menu is great - love the variety of authentic options - diverse but not overwhelming. And extra props for having aguas frescas, popsicles - the food was mediocre. The food here is fresh and delicious! They have things that you don't usually find at fast casual Mexican places, like tamales and elote (street corn). For any of the dishes (burritos, tacos, enchiladas, taco plate, etc) you get to choose from a wide variety of filling options. I got the chicken tinga and lengua (beef tongue) tacos ($3.25 each) and the elote ($3.99) my boyfriend got the chicken tinga enchiladas ($11.49) and we shared the chips and guac. Everything was sooo good. The chicken tinga is shredded chicken and onion simmered in a spicy chipotle sauce. The sauce made it so flavorful and juicy. The lengua was also delicious - don't knock it 'til you try it! I can't wait to try all of the other fillings, like the papas con chorizo and pork en Chile verde. The guac was great, but be warned: it's very cilantro heavy (which I love but others might not). The elote (corn) has this amazing seasoning and cheese on it. I overheard the guy who works there telling another customer that it's his favorite thing on the menu, and I can definitely see why! The people working there were incredibly nice, helpful about the menu's options, and worked fast! We came here before a movie at around 8pm on a Saturday night. No one was there when we got there. A few groups were there when we left, but still nothing compared to the packed shake shack nearby. SO glad this location opened! Chilacates is a great place for lunch or a quick bite of flavorful Mexican food! Got the birria tacos and would recommend to others. The birria tacos are some of the best in the Boston area IMO! The indoor seating is small but since it's quick service, I've never had to wait for a table.

Had lunch here for the first time. The team was very eager to help or answer any questions. Menu was easy to translate. Food order came out right away. I had a pork burrito and it was yummy. We met the owner Socrates. He's was very friendly and engaging. The location in Chestnut Hill is cute and has limited seating. When the weather gets warmer, outdoor seating will be available. Try the flan!

Great ambience and lots of parking. Behind all the big stores in the front if you're not familiar with the place. They take major credit cards and cash. Very laid back and nice staffs. Food came out quick but overall I think is a bit watery, especially the fish tacos (which is my fave from all the tacos I have tried there, just a tad watery). Prices are reasonable and good portions and reminds me of authentic tacos from LA (just not as cheap and fresh compare to street carts in LA).

There was 2 1 inch long prices of plastic In my food so I called them to ask for a refund and they hung up and left me on ringer 2 like it was a 10$ or something order and I didn't really care that much but they hung up on me and set me on ringer twinge instead of just saying sorry, food was okay ig accept for the big ass prices of plastic bag in my meal soooo ya would t eat again

We came here based on the reviews on Yelp. We tried a burrito with chicken tinga, two taxied with Chile verde, and a tostada with the grilled chicken. We thought the food was very good and will definitely come back. The flan looked good but we were too full. Will try it next time! Wanted to try other things as well so will do next time.

Worked up an appetite shopping and stopped in here to grab a burrito. I tried the al pastor, and was kind of disappointed. The pineapple was barely noticeable and the overall flavors were pretty bland. There was no cheese in the burrito, although the menu says the burritos contain cheese. The good news was the tortilla was soft, yet chewy, and the hot sauce was very good (and very hot) and helped counter the bland pork, rice and beans. I'd give it another try if in the area, but if I'm specifically looking for a burrito or Mexican food, I'd head elsewhere.

Love Chilacates for take out and dining in. Huge fan of the chicken enchiladas with refried bean and rice. The tamales are also excellent. The green mild hot sauce is great and the red sauce is definitely nice and spicy.

Delicious and reasonably priced! My go to is the carnitas burrito. Order delivery from here at least once a week.

Well that was a big disappointment. We are new customers - our second trip was today after having a great lunch a few weeks ago. After getting home with three taco plates at $50 we find that the order wasn't really finished. No pico, cilantro or any of the sauces. The special hard taco shells forgotten. I guess if we go to Chilacates we go to JP! Bummer.

This is a fast casual Mexican restaurant (think more authentic Chipotle - in the best way possible). I love Mexican food whether it's hole in the wall tacos or street food in Mexico City. I love the ambiance here. It gives a nod to classic Mexican culture and figures in a very trendy way. I got an al pastor burrito and thought it was really good. I was taking off for a 2 hour car ride, so I wanted something delicious and quick. This delivered. I didn't get to savor it or enjoy any popsicles or drinks. That aside, I thought it was flavorful and fresh. My last bite was that perfectly cheesy moment and it rounded out the meal well. It's a bit on the pricier side for size but I have no complaints. I'm interested in some of the more unique menu ideas so I'm sure they'll see me many times to come!

Five stars for the lengua!! Yay!!! The lengua was fantastic! Minus two stars: they got our order wrong and claimed we said it wrong, when they definitely heard us wrong. They gave us chicken tacos instead of fish tacos. We definitely said fish. I would never say the words chicken and taco in the same sentence. Have never eaten a chicken taco in my entire life. We took a bite since they refused to switch it out for fish, and it was dry and barely edible, as expected for a chicken taco.

I'm from Los Angeles, and I travel to Mexico frequently. This spot in MA, of all places, is the smallest step down from the real thing. Saying that, this is the best Mexican food I've had in Boston.

Wanted to have some tacos in chestnut hill neighborhood and this place didn't disappoint us. Had tacos and torta. It was a pleasant experience.Seating capacity is limited, more like a take out place.

Okay, I'll say this place is kinda over priced considering it's not really a sit down place and for two people it's probably still gunna cost like $30 but I've gotten the quesadillas and the fish enchiladas a few times and LOVED it every single time :)

Best. Burritos. Ever. And I'm from so cal where the Mexican is good. This place is fantastic. Added bonus- you can text in your order for pick up! Very happy to have this as our neighborhood spot!

The ingredients are so fresh! It's very good. The most authentic Mexican food I've had since my trip to California. I'm very impressed. I really like the whole menu.

Rating is only for the pricing policy. The menu board said that a taco salad was $6.49, but it rang up at $10.49. That's a huge difference. I walked out and won't be back till they fix their pricing.

I believe this location has been open for a week now? Went in for lunch with a few coworkers. Great customer service, it was fast and delicious! The only thing is I wish it had more seating, we almost had to drive back to the office to eat but luckily some people left within the few minutes. I got the Burrito Bowl, rice, (no black beans), cheese, lettuce, guacamole (extra $ of course), pico, sour cream, Carne Asada (extra $) They give out hot and tomatillo/avocado sauce on the side. It was so good, and definitely didn't get the awful feeling after eating "fast Mexican". I will be going back soon for sure!
