Best Tacos in Dallas and Fort Worth | Eater Dallas

"With freshly shaved meats on display and the tempting smell wafting everywhere, the order counter at Chilangos is a delightful place to be. The barbacoa, al pastor, and juicy birria tacos (those are served only on weekends) are its specialties. As a local chain, Chilangos has three locations around DFW, and they all go hard on decor with red, white, and yellow everywhere, along with neon signs and personality for days." - Courtney E. Smith

The 38 Best Restaurants in Dallas | Eater Dallas

"This small but mighty Dallas-born taco chain has three locations in Dallas and two in Plano, all serving Mexico City-style tacos and street food. From the taco options, the carne asada and barbacoa are the stars (vegetarians, dip into the hongos — caramelized mushrooms). If it’s a quesadilla you want, go for pollo to minimize the drippage. Chilangos is also a solid stop for breakfast tacos, meaning it should be on any Dallas travelers hit-list, too. Don’t expect anything fancy — it’s got walk-up counter service; do expect fresh tortillas, freshly sliced meats, and kind service, all of which it has in spades. Know before you go: On weekends only, it slings quesobirria and birria tacos." - Courtney E. Smith

Google
My 1st time at this establishment. I found it by accident. I have to say. This spot has flavorful Tacos. I tried flour and corn tortillas. The Maiz were better of the two. The Salsa "La Pinche. Hot! " Very good. The Staff was friendly and efficient. Lunch time crowd, place was packed. My order was ready in a rapid manner. I'll be back. 🌮🌮🍍🥃🌶😎

Google
The tacos were delicious here, they have a taste that reminds you of home; you could tell the tacos were made with love. the atmosphere and decor made it seem like you were actually in Mexico. Personally my favorite was the chicken tacos since they had a smoky, grilled flavor to it (much different than your average grilled chicken). Their corn in a cup is a little expensive considering it’s in a small cup than anticipated but it was delicious and would get it again.

Google
So far, I’ve only had their breakfast tacos, but they are amazing! Salchicha was my fave! If you’re coming for the main menu, don’t come before 10 AM. If you’re coming for the breakfast tacos, give yourself a few extra minutes. They’re made from scratch, but worth it.

I had a great experience ordering online from Chilangos. The value was great- I felt like I got a lot of great food for very cheap. I started off with the chips and queso which were well flavored. I then got a barbacoa taco, an al pastor taco, and a campechana quesadilla. All of them were excellent but the quesadilla was definitely my favorite. The cheese, meat, and tortilla melded together very well on this one. Overall, I would come back here and try more of their items. note- there was a free parking lot with plenty of space.

Google
Delicious tasty authentic tacos with your choice of meat; cilantro and onions is optional; the salsa is awesome; Mexican Coke makes the meal complete; easy to order; service is fast; friendly staff; queso is tasty; you will love it.

Google
Another overhyped TikTok trap. The tacos are good, but NOTHING like they hyped them to be. Also, a HUGE drawback, very pricy for street tacos. I even gave their "signature" ribeye taco a chance, and it was disappointing. I think people come here for the friendly service and atmosphere. Young people think a place is good, as long as the place looks cool.

Google
Recommend - Signature Ribeye…. and the pastor was great - ask for everything on it with pineapple!! (Service was amazing - I forgot to ask for pineapple and they still have it to us!) the pineapple gives it extra taste and brings out the flavor. The churros are fresh too and not too oily, with right amount of sugar flavor. Fast service and clean.

Amazing!! The food was tasty, fresh, and timely. I had a swirl margarita and it was worth the buy!! Definitely recommend and will be back!

Yelp
To quote Luke Skywalker, "I WILL BE BACK." This place is DELICIOUS. My now go to tacos are the barbacoa and the al pastor! If you like lean and flavorful barbacoa, then you'll love these tacos. The tacos are prepared in front of you, and you get to add the toppings you like (cilantro, onions, salsa). The flour tortillas are made from scratch, so they're the semi translucent kind. The people made everything so quickly, so they're wait was short though the restaurant was packed! It's a great spot with delicious food. My next visit will be on a weekend, so I can try the birria! Everything from food to service and ambiance was welcoming 10/10!

Yelp
WHAT I ORDERED: Carne Asada Taco, Pastor Taco, Barbacoa Taco, Signature Ribeye Taco, and Limonada PARKING: Shared parking lot but decent amount of parking spots INSIDE: Fun place to walk into with the neon signs and different wall decor. Ordering was easy and had a friendly staff taking them. I can see it getting quite crowded with limited seats depending on the day/time you go but luckily, we didn't have any issues finding a table. THE FOODS/DRINKS: Every taco was delicious but if I had to choose a favorite, I would pick the ribeye. I would go back and get a las costras to try the griddled cheese with another protein. I typically prefer corn tortilla over flour but was surprised to find I liked the flour more. It had a better crunch for me that I liked. The limonada was refreshing and a good way to cool of the spice from the pepper. I also liked how the salsas/peppers were self service so you can dress each taco to your liking. A solid taco place I would come back to.

Yelp
I don't want to sound like a granny, but wow this place is LOUD. And not the fun kind of loud where you lean in for a conversation...this is full-on yell-at-the-person-next-to-you and break out hand signals to order your food loud. Honestly, if I knew sign language, this would've been the place to use it. Now, on to the good stuff. The food? Spectacular. We popped in just for a snack and left dreaming of round two. I ordered the pastor quesadilla and some churros. Hubby ordered the pastor las costas, which was the clear winner. That glorious pastor meat was first wrapped in a full cheese skirt, then hugged by a tortilla--absolute genius. The churros were also top-notch, served with two dipping sauces: one dulce and one strawberry. My only churro gripe? They cut them into pieces. I want one L-O-N-G churro I can shamelessly inhale. We'd love to come back for the weekend-only birria tacos, but I'm not sure if my ears can take the music again. Someone tell them the speakers don't need to go "to eleven" (spinal tap reference)

Yelp
10/10!! All the items I've tried here were quality. I came here on the recommendation of an uber driver and I'm so glad I did. I'm familiar with tacos and getting tacos in Mexico so I had high standards coming in. The meat was nice and tender so not chewy. The tortillas were nice and moist. I loved the self serve salsas, they were fresh. Service was good. They call out your name once your order is ready. It took a while to receive food though. The ambiance is casual, but typical of a taco shop. I liked the set up inside, everything was organized.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, Spanish mostly spoken and heard. Friendly counter service. Large self seating dining room with quick turnovers of tables. On this visit, their weekends only "Birria Tacos" were filled with tasty meat with only a trace of cheese in three very crunchy fried corn tortilla shells; the standout though was their absolutely delicious aromatic consume dip of which I'd come back for! CHEERS!
google avatar

Hannah R.

Yelp
The tacos were just fine. I found the birria to be a little dry and although they were quesobirria tacos it felt like there also wasn't much cheese.
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
I opted for the pastor and fajita tacos and they were actually really good! Not sure why it took me so long to come try this place out but I'm glad I did. Their mango margarita was really tasty as well. The place is small so you do feel kind of rushed when you see the line starting to build up.

Yelp
Came here for a work lunch to celebrate admin day! It was super busy and we had to wait a bit to find some chairs. The restaurant itself is small, but the food is definitely great! The ambiance is very casual and its for anyone. I ordered 2 pollo tacos and 1 barbacoa taco on corn. I enjoyed it very much and all the salsas were great! The chips and queso was also a banger as well. My coworkers all enjoyed their meal and would all love to come back!
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in to satisfy my taco craving. Joint has just opened so chairs were on top of tables. The walls are adorned with wall art and neon lighted words. I ordered uno chicharon/egg and uno bacon/egg tacos, both were muy deliciosos! Although the staff didn't give me the warm fuzzies. I'll eat here again!

Yelp
My daughter told my husband & I about Chilango's she discovered it's one by the house on Ross Ave in Dallas. Let me tell you the tacos were delicious, fantastic such a treat! We will absolutely be coming back! This restaurant will be a staple for my family. You ROCK!!!!
google avatar

Ashley V.

Yelp
The mango chamoy Margarita!!!!!!! Start there please, you will not regret it. The tacos honestly hit too, I really liked the carne asada taco, if you want a wild ride add the red sauce. The homemade churros were also a winner too. This place was PACKED on a Friday night so much so it was almost impossible to get a place to sit, a lot of people taking things to go but I did notice as people were waiting for their food, there would be tables that opened up.
google avatar

Yelp
Tried the chicken tacos, quesadillas, and chips with queso--everything was delicious! The tacos are small (about 6 inches), so grab a few. Super flavorful, quick service, and friendly staff. Will definitely be back! Located inside the exchange food hall, so plenty of seating!

Yelp
OMG!! This is just what I was looking for when visiting Dallas. The food is fresh and authentic. My wife and I tried almost all of their street tacos. I definitely coming back.

Yelp
If happiness had a flavor, it would taste like the Barbacoa taco at Chilangos. I came, I saw, I taco'd--and then I taco'd again because I doubled back. Skip that chorizo taco and go straight to the steak quesadilla. The vibe? More like dive meets taco. The staff was so friendly they made me feel like family--but I really need to learn Spanish so I can really order my food. The place has indoor seating with the perfect taco-eating ambiance (aka tables and chairs), and the parking lot had so much space. We ended up eating in the parking lot to spare the guest my outta control toddler. The churros? Decent. They weren't life-changing, but let's be honest: it's hard to follow up a Barbacoa mic drop. The Mango Margarita, however, was the MVP of the drinks menu--frozen, refreshing, and an easy 8/10. But the best part? The contagious joy in the air. Everyone there--customers, staff, probably even the tacos--seemed genuinely happy. It's like this place is Dallas's unofficial headquarters for good vibes and great eats. Long story short: Get the Barbacoa. Get it twice. And then bask in the glow of taco-induced euphoria.

Yelp
Having been in Dallas for over a year and a half now, we have gotten into the routine of going to a couple of reliable taco spots nearby. Last week we decided to branch out of our comfort spots and try chilangos. I'm happy we did, because this was SO GOOD. I tried three tacos, the hongos, al pastor, and barbacoa. The barbacoa and pastor were by far my fav, with the al pastor a close second. My significant other had the ribeye taco, which came with melted cheese and the campechano as well. Their mild guacamole salsa was a very welcome creamy and refreshing addition to the street-style tacos. Their tortillas (I opted for flour) were fluffy and fresh. We also tried their chips and salsa (chips are fine, salsa very obviously freshly made with roasted tomatoes/chiles, so yum), and elote. Also loved the Jamaica they had! Food was prepared and served quickly. So great, but a very heavy lunch. Would def go back to try the other taco offerings and maybe a quesadilla soon!

Yelp
The best tacos in Dallas! Chilangos tacos is my go-to spot any time I'm craving tacos. Not only are they authentic and flavorful, but they are affordable and are quickly prepared to allow you to quickly come in and out with your food! Staff is super friendly and they always have great music playing and smiles on their faces making the experience not only enjoyable but also mood lifting! My one note would be that their horchata tasted like it's made from a mix so I would not recommend it, but everything else is spot on! I would encourage anyone who hasn't yet to try them out!

Yelp
I'm getting really sick of this place screwing up my order. The food is good, but remember to check your pick-up orders. I forgot to do that today, and of course, my order was wrong. Ridiculous!
google avatar

Lena D.

Yelp
Chilango is located in a strip which shares parking spaces with 7/11 and a Chinese buffet. Parking lot looks full sometimes but there's plenty of parking spaces. I heard this new spot is more spacious than their original spot but be aware that this spot can get very busy. You'll want to start off by waiting in line to order your food. There is a huge menu on the wall with a variety of selections and meats. It may be difficult to find a table sometimes but staff is usually good at cleaning tables and trying to get you seated. Chilango's signature ribeye taco has a special place in my heart! I will literally go back here just to get the ribeye taco over and over again. Some other honorable mentions that I've tried would be the carne asada, barbacoa, and suadero tacos. I had no clue what "beef rose meat" meant but honestly, I wasn't questioning it anymore after my first bite. The signature ribeye and suadero tacos will always be my go-to tacos from here on out! I've also tried their chicken taco which wasn't too bad for a chicken taco. Also tried the hongos (mushroom) taco and that was just okay. I wouldn't do it again personally. I've also enjoyed their elotes and margs! The quesadillas are too cheesy for me so I usually stick with the tacos. The churros are okay! There are bite sized or full sized options. It's a good sweet treat at the end of the meal. The sauce bar is incredible. I'm always getting the guacamole salsa. Their salsa bar is self serve as well. 10/10 for Chilango's!

Yelp
Love this place. Great tacos and great fun. Nearby my apartment authentic Mexico City styled tacos with affordable price. Best taco place I know of.
google avatar

Yelp
Been driving by here for several months since it opened...took a friend for lunch. The place was very nice almost fast food like, but authentic Mexico taco stand like. I was hoping for some lengua (beef tounge) tacos, but upon examining the menu, I noticed they were catering to both the native S. Americans , Texicans and Americanos...prices were a bit higher than I was expecting...but went ahead and placed our order and service was quick after we got our number for our table. You can see the taco preparation from your table and as my friend put it this is like a taqueria "In and Out Burger" style as the cooks were all wearing white coats and little red hats resembling the burger joint. Food was served with basic garnishes and you got to pick your hot sauces...they even had grilled jalapenos. The atmosphere was very laid back and cool. Wil definitely recommend and come back.

Yelp
only 8 mins away from the infamous Katy Trail is Chilangos Tacos. After my hour long walk along the trail I decided I need to refuel. Chilangos Tacos was indeed a great decision. I tried the pastor, carne asada, barbacoa and ribeye. My favorite was the ribeye. Try it. I also have to say their tortillas are spectacular also. The cilantro and onion was fresh on each of my tacos. Great selection of salsa. Go for the spiciest one, always. We have one life. To top off the heat go for the the churros right after.... ....I was supposed to wait to get home to eat them. All I can say is that they didn't make it home. Id recommend getting double pink sauce (I believe its strawberry). Ambiance is pretty dope also, lot of neon lights. Perfect for those to live for lifestyle Instagram aesthetic.

Yelp
Amazing food, service and decor! All the reviews were really great and they did NOT lie. Seating was a little rough at first but while ordering food a table opened up. Every worker here is super nice!!
google avatar

Ebony E.

Yelp
Amazing quick food!! The wait won't be long at all.. fresh hot tacos!!! With all kinds of options! Great flavors and a simple concept. Good thing there are multiple locations because getting a place to set can be challenging. But a packed house means the Foods Good!! It's a clean establishment, and intimate setting but worth it.
google avatar

Roz R.

Yelp
Delicious, hands down street tacos among the best in DFW. Love the ambiance and welcoming setting. very fresh and simply delicious, love coming and seeing Diana very sweet she already knows my order super attentive. parking can be challenging but worth the wait. Doesn't get better then this.
google avatar

Fatima C.

Yelp
When I want authentic street tacos with quality meat and great flavor, this is my go-to. It reminds me of the tacos back home in NYC. I'm sure I'll change my thought when I visit Mexico City one day. My go to order are either carne asada or chicken tacos or a quesadilla. Or the birria on the weekends when I'm feeling naughty lol. This time I ordered the carne asada quesadillas which are fire paired with the medium salsa, guac and crema! Perfectly spicy and acidic! The tortillas are made to perfection and the meat is grilled deliciously. The carne asada tacos (corn tortilla) are just as good without the cheese. The churros at this location are not my thing. The cinnamon sugar and the malt chocolate sauce weren't my cup of tea and I find pretty expensive for what they taste like. I did decide to eat inside because whenever I do place a pick up order there is always something wrong with my order so I prefer to be safe than sorry. But if you are in the area do visit! It's really the best street taco place in the DFW area in my opinion.

Hailey F.

Yelp
The best tacos! Super fresh and simple. I had chicken tacos with flour tortillas and I recommend. Clean environment and nice staff.
google avatar

Malinda S.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere at night! Great variety of music and glow lights everywhere. The prices were reasonable with great customer service! I ordered steak tacos and mushroom quesadilla with corn tortillas of course! Plus i couldn't skip out on churros My favorite! Open late definitely worth a visit.
google avatar

Cherryl B.

Yelp
Usually I grab tacos at their shop, but today we had guests at an event, and everything was every bit as delicious as when I'm at Chilangos! We got all the good sauces, limes, onions and more - nothing was forgotten. Will definitely order catering again!!
google avatar

Christy G.

Yelp
We love Chilangos! Evidently, so does everyone else. It's always packed. The menu is pretty simple - authentic mexican tacos, quesadias, elotes, and a couple other items. They have a grilled cheese taco, which is very cheese heavy, but delicious and unique. The carne asada and chicken tacos were both great. The chips were also very good. It's a counter service, casual restaurant. They're open late.
google avatar

Sara N.

Yelp
I can see this spot being my go-to tacos on the regular. Very good flavoring on the pastor. Also a cute restaurant with wall decor. The staff taking orders are nice.
google avatar

Dom J.

Yelp
Always see this place on TikTok so I gave it a go. I ordered 3 tacos (2 asada and 1 ribeye) and the elote. The ribeye taco was a 10/10. Flavorful, the ribeye was cooked perfectly and the cheese was perfect. Now the carne asada was good but the steak was cooked too long IMO. A little tough and the flavor wasn't all the way there so I'll give it a 7.5/10. I really like when places allow you to self serve your salsas instead of giving you what they wanna give you and having to ask for extra. Extra points for that. The elote was pretty good too. I left none behind. Before you walk in you would think that the place is smaller than it actually is. It's very nice inside and the music set the vibes. I went on the 4th of July and it was pretty packed. Luckily I was able to find a seat. I will run this back cause I wanna try the margs they had. It was a bit pricey I would say. But check em out.

Marc V.

Yelp
Great food, great service. Usually packed for a good reason but wait isn't that long. A lot of parking too
google avatar

Mari A.

Yelp
This is probably the best tacos in Dallas. I had tacos de fajita and corn, and they were so good. The salsas are fresh, ranging from mild to hot. The Agua frescas are the best. The restaurant is clean, and the staff is great. You must try these tacos.
google avatar

Zmon A.

Yelp
My favorite taco restaurant in all of Dallas. The signature rib eye is a MUST. You will not be disappointed. Service is quick and very clean.
google avatar

Kate B.

Yelp
Chilangos Tacos is a gem and needs more business,I'd rate it 4.8 out of 5! The shop is super cute and authentically Mexican. I had 2 barbacoa tacos on corn tortillas with elotes and a coke, so delicious it's my go to taco order anywhere ! They have self-serve salsa, which is a nice touch, and the staff is friendly ! I've heard they serve birria tacos on weekends, a must-try for me next time. The food is fantastic, even though it took a bit longer during the lunch rush, but that's understandable, good garnish too. Plus, the tacos are cheap, making it a great value for delicious and authentic Mexican food. Overall, a great authentic spot for tacos in Dallas, will be going during lunch a lot !
google avatar

Victoria H.

Yelp
I am so glad that this location opened close to home! My first visit with my husband and roommate, we ordered the birria quesatacos, carne asada quesadillas, carne asada tacos, pastor tacos, and the churros. All of it was great, especially the birria tacos and carne asada quesadillas.I'm not alone in this sentiment, because by Saturday or Sunday night, the birria tacos are usually sold out. The birria tacos are exclusively sold on weekends too, so that should speak to how great they are. I'd recommend everything we ordered, just be sure to get there before it's sold out! Also, the one downfall is that water is not free here.
google avatar

Aly S.

Yelp
Food is very tasty. Prices are ok. There is no way to call to place order Online ordering doesn't work Email support doesn't work. So this is more for the logistical part At this point I'd only go during off hours as it's super slow for service
google avatar

Clarissa S.

Yelp
This place stresses me out when it's busy. the tacos are really good, especially their corn tortillassss. The employees here definitely help with the seating arrangements! I also tried their horchata, one the best I've had for sure!
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
This location is inside the Exchange Hall in downtown Dallas. It was busy at 9:30 on a Saturday night before #Eclipse2024. The birria tacos were good (served on weekends only). I really enjoyed the beefy-spicy-herby consomme for dipping and sipping. Big ding for the person running the counter/cash register being very slow taking orders. There's no signage or marking showing where to line up. They take your phone number but don't send order updates.
google avatar

Kennedie P.

Yelp
Good experience the first two times I've ordered. This third time it's like they just threw my food on the plate and also did not give me everything that came with my order. The first two times I came in on a busy busy Friday and Saturday night. This third time I came in on a slow Wednesday night and when I went to the back to pick up my order multiple employees looked at me and went on doing what they were doing, not greeted, did not ask me a name for my order and did not seem to care to help me. Which was weird because the other times I'm not sure if it was the manager or owner greeting every single customer and made sure to keep the line for pick up order moving and making sure ppl got what they ordered. He needs to be there at all times because with the quality of my food and the service from last night I'm not sure I'll be coming back to this location.
google avatar

Timia W.

Yelp
I can only speak for this location. These are the best tacos I've had in Dallas! This is a franchise but this location does what they want and I mean that in the best way possible. Their tacos are so well seasoned and very flavorful. We usually get the Barbacoa tacos and steak tacos. I'm not a big fan of chicken tacos but I had them once and they were the best chicken tacos I had at a restaurant. The steak costra is also good! The service is quick too! I only don't give them five stars because I wish they served nachos, but I guess that would take away from the authenticity of this location.
google avatar

Anna N.

Yelp
Pros- Fast Cheap Elote was good Good salsas Cons- The ribeye tacos were lacking seasoning The corn tortilla could've been charred better Consome could've been a bit better, but wasn't bad. Overall, I would come back
google avatar

Carlos A.

Yelp
Finally, some good bad ass authentic tacos in Dallas. Salsas were all balanced and outstanding Tortillas were on point All the meats were perfectly cooked and seasoned

Vanessa R.

Yelp
We had been wanting to visit this spot for a while and finally made it out. It did NOT disappoint! Tacos were delicious, elote was super yummy and they had plenty of salsas to dress your tacos. A great spot for a hot summer day lunch, as they had frozen margaritas and spicy micheladas. The service was also friendly and helpful, specifically Andres who went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed and even let us sample the churros ( also delicious). Will definitely be back to this place and totally recommend to all!
google avatar

Rachel R.

Yelp
A fun spot for a quick lunch or a late night sit-down grub, after the bars with delicious foods, great music, and vibrant black lights. It's conveniently located in a shopping center on Ross and open late! You can get quesadillas and some amazing tacos- the Birria, Pastor, Carne Asada were my favorites! They're quick to prepare food & will call your name when it's ready. They also have delicious salsa/guacamole options to top things off with. If you're refreshing things with a drink, they offer Pacifico, corona, Modelo and more beers, as well as delicious frozen margs! I recommend grabbing churros for a nice dessert or Togo for later. Churros come with a chocolate or strawberry dipping sauces.
google avatar

Jacky G.

Yelp
Employees were great from when you open the door to when they hand you your delicious food. I ordered tacos de carne asada de Barbacoa and pastor all of them were delicious there was also churro bites i was having a sweet tooth ordered the churro bites from the table with the help of a gentlemen called Roberto who was super nice and professional and helped me out bc the line was SUPER long so i didn't have to make line again. But the churros were really good as well.
google avatar

May M.

Yelp
Yummy!! Local friends took me here for authentic tacos and this place was it. Great and fast service as well. The lines are pretty long but definitely worth the wait! We ordered elotes, carne asada tacos and they were super fresh delicious! Will try their margaritas next time.

Yelp
These were my go to tacos but when I went yesterday, I felt a little off while eating. I came home and discovered I had gotten food poisoning. I was throwing up all night, had a fever, and lets say I was in the bathroom a lot... Eat at your own risk... I will not be back for a very long time.
