A Beloved Baltimore Scoop Shop Busts Into D.C. — And More Openings - Eater DC

"Now in his off season, Washington Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma gets into D.C.’s coffee game with the debut of Childhood Cafe — a riff on his lifestyle company Childhood Dreams — on Thursday, April 18. Located in the old ThreeFifty Bakery and Coffee Bar, the NBA sports star’s new daytime endeavor (7 a.m. to 3 p.m.) slings an assortment of pastries, coffee drinks, lemonades, non-alcoholic spritzes, and nostalgic concoctions like a strawberry Pop-Tart latte." - Tierney Plumb

This is a really cute cozy coffee shop. The lattes are well made, they have house made syrups, the pastries are good and the coffee cake is perfect and not over sweet. The gal who gave us our drinks was nice. There is a little bit of seating indoors, but most of it is outside. We got two drip coffees (one with cardamom added) and I got a cardamom orange latte. It was all delicious. We also got coffee cake. Highly recommend.

In the old 350 Bakery location, Childhood Cafe is new to 17th but still has all your old favorites. With limited seating inside, the outside patio is a nice choice on a beautiful DC weekend.

It's hard to replace a beloved cafe. (ThreeFifty Bakery and Coffee Bar was in their space.) The inside looks the same. It's cozy with window seating, wall seating, and an outdoor front patio. Childhood Cafe has a large coffee menu and lots of pastry and food options. I ordered the pistachio latte and the sausage and mushroom quiche. The quiche hit the spot and the barista warmed it for me. However, the pistachio latte was just average. They have a jug of ice water out for visitors, which is appreciated.

Absolutely wonderful cafe! Super cozy with a great selection of drinks and sweet treats -- sure to satisfy your inner child and any caffeine or sugar craving! I stopped by Childhood Cafe for a quick Sunday afternoon beverage, and I ended up sticking around for a couple of hours just to read and hang out. The store is quite small inside, with only a few chairs available next to a window bar, but there are a ton of tables outside for the nicer weather days. I decided to keep it simple with a plain matcha latte, but had to indulge my inner child with their banana bread. The matcha was solid, with a properly vibrant green colour and great earthy flavor, but the banana bread was to die for -- it was super soft and moist, and the perfect level of sweetness (aka not too sweet). I loved the added banana slices on top, and it made for a delicious, aesthetically appealing treat. The baristas were also super friendly and welcoming, and they walked me through all their different syrups (all of which are remarkably unique and made in-house), so I'm definitely excited to come back and try some of their flavored lattes.

Great bakery and coffee spot. I got a peppermint mocha, a veggie quiche, and a vegan chocolate chip cookie. The quiche was very very good so was the coffee. They have a large coffee and tea menu with a lot of unique flavors. They have vegetarian vegan and gluten free options too! I would greatly recommend. The shop has some indoor seating and wifi and a lot of outdoor seating.

Im 14 and do not like the taste of coffee, but luckily this barista worked with me to make my dream chai latte with multiple flavors, made samples, and didnt charge any extra. One of the coolest experiences ive ever had, all out of the kindness of her heart. Also, the food and drinks were fricking delicious I speak for everyone in the car when I say this was the coolest place if I had one of these in my city I would spend my money here every day 😂

Fantastic coffee and quiche! Their bagel sandwiches are bagel thins..not the best but their homemade poptarts make up for it! Small shop but is run efficiently. Like most DC spots parking is sparse at best, not super close to a metro either. On a quiet side street though so you can sit outside and enjoy your breakfast! Will definitely be back.

Really cute cafe and the employees are so friendly! We came Friday morning and it was a little busy. The employees were very apologetic with wait times and finished drinks as quick as they could. I ordered an iced blueberry muffin latte. It was pretty good, not my favorite but I love the uniqueness of the drink. They also have several other speciality drinks available and a variety of pastries. One item that’s supposed to come soon is a tiramisu cold brew which I’m excited to try! I don’t see myself coming often but it was a good first time experience and if I’m ever back in the area I’d love to try other things.

Yelp
stopped in Childhood Cafe a few months after all of the Instagram hype - cute little spot on a side street with a ton of nice outdoor seating out front. the inside is small (and VERY air conditioned) with less than 10 counter seats and low ceilings - the menu is adorable! if I was a sweet drink person I'd be all over this. like a blueberry muffin latte? strawberry pop tart latte? they also have non housemade syrups for a variety of sugar free options which is nice - speaking of inclusive, tons of gluten free options for pastries! I didn't try a pastry so I can't speak on the quality of them. but they look good! - prices were shockingly low for DC woohoo!! 4.60 for a large americano w alternative milk and SF syrup - coffee was a bit overly flavored. serious was slower but they were nice. they have generic cups that give a little bit diner vibes. coffee had decent flavor, not burnt! just a few bumps to smooth out.

Yelp
While in town for a conference, I did my best researching cafes. I was so so so glad to have come across this spot! The girls working were helpful when I was ordering. I ordered the strawberry poptart latte that was one of the featured items on the chalkboard inside. I looked over several of their bakery options and landed on the raspberry loaf with lemon glaze. There are a few seats inside and more tables out front to sit. I sat inside by the window with a nice view of the plants and outside. My bakery item was provided right about, and it only took a few minutes for the latte. First off, the presentation of the strawberry poptart latte was gorgeous and OMG SO GOOD. The drink looked like a poptart and had a good amount of strawberry flavor. The raspberry loaf was scrumptious! I liked the raspberries throughout. Great neighborhood cafe.

Yelp
Tasty coffee and an adorable, quaint cafe! My friend and I ventured to Childhood Cafe on a Saturday morning in need of coffee and pastry, I ordered a Shaken Espresso - it was strong and perfectly creamy. I also enjoyed a flaky vegetable quiche that was loaded with a variety of veggies. So tasty! The service was speedy and kind. Happy I also got a place to fill my water up. Cannot wait to visit again soon!

Yelp
Very small, but cozy. Best for a quick stop in rather than sitting and enjoying! The lavender matcha I got was amazing, but next time I would do without the lavender petals in the drink. The service was great. Can't wait to go back and try more drinks and their pop tarts.

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop with some really unique drinks and delicious pastries! Compared to a lot of coffee places in DC the prices are also pretty reasonable. Definitely preferred the iced pistachio latte over the strawberry poptart but I know lots of people liked the strawberry latte. Baristas are friendly and welcoming. A super great addition to the neighborhood.

Yelp
I had a craving for something sweet and decided to visit Childhood Cafe to indulge in a pastry. The cafe impressed me with its cleanliness and spacious layout, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. I decided to try the gluten free double chocolate muffin. Without a doubt, their double chocolate muffin is one of the most delicious chocolate muffins/cakes I've ever had. It was moist, rich and not too sweet, perfection. I would definitely recommend this item off the menu!

Yelp
Super cute new cafe in the neighborhood. So happy to have a local option on this side of 17th street. Everyone who works here is very friendly and you get your items quickly. They have great outdoor space and a few spots inside. I look forward to trying their lemonades and other specials. Their pastries look great. Coffee is delicious and cheaper than Starbucks.

Yelp
Childhood cafe is an amazing new addition to the neighborhood!! Upon walking in my friend and I were immediately greeted by the staff. The line was pretty long but went by fast - it was almost out the door and we got to the front in less than 5 minutes! I ordered the brown sugar shaken espresso and LOVED it!! Jane (the barista) made it perfectly. We got there around 1:30 pm so they ran out of most pastries but I will definitely be back to try those too! There is some seating inside by the window but most of the seating is outside on the patio - a great spot to stop by on a warm day. The place is owned by Kyle kuzma so maybe you'll see him on your visit!

Yelp
Stumbled across this new neighborhood spot today! This place opened recently, and I definitely plan to come often. The ambiance is fresh and the staff were extremely kind! I got their seasonal drink, the strawberry latte, which is made with a house jam. It was delicious. Will definitely come again!

Yelp
Childhood Cafe offers a welcoming atmosphere with a spacious interior and generous outdoor seating. Upon entering, the staff greeted us warmly and made us feel right at home. Beverage & Food Selection: They have a delightful range of hot and cold coffee beverages, teas, spritzes, lemonades, and tempting pastries. Food Experience: We tried their GF/vegan chocolate chip cookie, which had a crumbly texture and was not overly sweet. It wasn't my personal favorite due to its crumbly nature, I prefer a more chewy texture. The croissant, though petite in size, had the perfect texture and task, making it a delightful treat.

Yelp
Pretty neat concept! I got the strawberry pop tart and it was not too strawberry-y. But pastries were pretty good. Service was good and the seating was pretty good as well, there's more outdoor seating than indoor. Not many of the reviews mention wifi but they do have it! Inside it just seems like another coffee shop in terms of ambiance and atmosphere!

Yelp
I stopped by and ordered the apple brown sugar latte which which was pretty good. They had a good selection of specialty menu latte and matcha items that I would go back for. There's about 3 seats indoors to sit or work and there's a small patio outside with a few more spaces.

Yelp
New favorite coffee shop! Denitsa, my barista, was super friendly and so helpful in recommending me what to try. Highly recommend the pistachio latte (I believe it's made with pistachio milk and pistachio cold foam) as well as the strawberry pop tart latte. I also love the tiramisu and the sopressata flatbread. I'm a fan of the music they play (mostly pop), there's free Wi-Fi, and indoor and outdoor seating.

Yelp
The baked goods here are AMAZING! Nice quiet cafe with lots of outdoor seating. Everyone was very friendly!

Yelp
Childhood cafe is a great addition to the neighborhood, with coffee and pastries that check all the boxes. I've tried the shaken espresso (very good), cold brew (smooth, solid) and the lemon poppyseed muffin (delicious, would order again). The vibes inside are relaxed; they have patio seating and a few chairs inside. The cups are on the smaller size, so maybe opt for the large size or risk getting to the end of your shaken espresso and wishing there was more like me ;) I look forward to trying more menu items!

Yelp
I've only had the gluten free muffin and the poptart latte but I was such a fan. Not to mention, the service was wonderful. They were so kind and patient despite me popping in 15 minutes before close on a rainy Saturday. The poptart latte has a really interesting strawberry puree situation in it. This is the first time in a while that I've seen something innovative in a latte, usually it's just syrups. The gluten free muffin was also decadent and rich and not too dense- something that's hard to come by in gluten free products. This place is located next to some friends of mine (all former gfs boys in a massive house so take their taste with a grain of salt) but they will sometimes come multiple times a day or buy out the pastry case (it's that good).

Yelp
was really excited to have a brown sugar shaken espresso somewhere other than Starbucks, but this one was too sweet and lacked the oat milk creaminess I was charged for... the matcha strawberry latte was tasty -- definitely a treat! wouldn't go here as my daily coffee shop, but worth checking out to satisfy a sweet craving

Yelp
Five stars all around. Excellent selection of high quality baked goods. Very good coffee selection. Nice ambience inside. Café tables outside. Try their quiches, their take away items (like the tiramisu), and their baked goods (monkey bread, pop tarts, muffins, etc). Truly delicious! And the manager Joe creates a very positive vibe there. In the neighborhood, we are so happy this place is here. Welcome, Childhood Cafe! [Note: It's owned by NBA (Wizards) star Kyle Kuzma. His Childhood Dreams brand is part of a collaboration with Puma.]

Yelp
All the drinks, pastries and quiches I've tried are DELICIOUS... Great set and atmosphere too. Highly recommend

Yelp
Decided to try Childhood Cafe today. Came towards the afternoon so their pastries were almost sold out. I got a matcha latte and really didn't enjoy the taste. It was chalky and a bit powdery. My friend got the lavender latte and the flavor masked the chalky taste a bit. I would be willing to try other drinks but didn't love the Matcha. The ambience was great and plenty of outdoor seating.

Sophia M.

Yelp
coffee tasted BURNT and food was average. overall the service was good though!! The seating outside was nice
