Google
The BEST FOOD IN SALT LAKE CITY!! I was visiting for 2 weeks and literally returned for multiple days after the first time eating here. We tried numerous restaurants - the top rated, trendy, aesthetic, etc. From the preparation, to the fast seating, to the lovely service from the entire staff, 10/10! The food is WELL SEASONED and delicious! You can tell it’s authentically prepared with love. Did I mention an expansive reasonably priced drink selection? If you are looking for flavor and a good time you MUST eat here. I’ll even rate it above restaurants in my hometown and all over the country. I can’t wait to return! I wish you all continued growth and success, you deserve it. Thank you for the experience.

Google
Delicious food in generous portions at a fair price. The food was excellent. Everything we tried was delicious. I'm not sure if they're understaffed, but they did seem to struggle to get orders taken or food or drinks delivered even after seating guests, so plan for a long wait for a seat followed by a long wait for drinks followed by a long wait for food. We ended up with a decent amount of leftovers since the portion sizes were very generous. I would definitely like to go back, though I hope to goay a less crowded time (if there is such a thing at this popular spot).

Google
We loved everything about our meal at Chile-Tepin. The food was delicious and artfully presented. We had chiles rellenos, a tostado, taco, and enchilada with beans and rice, and found everything wonderful. Not only that, the wait staff couldn't have been friendlier and more solicitous, and the restaurant is spacious, well-lit, and has interesting Mexican artwork on its walls.

Google
Salt Lake City has great Mexican food. Everyone knows about places like Red Iguana but there are many other excellent ones including Chile Tepin. If sharing food I actually think Chile Tepin can’t be beat. I’ve shared the Molcajete and am including a picture of the Parrillada and both are top quality. The food at Chile Tepin also seems be to a bit lighter and and less heavy than some other places if that makes sense. Overall it’s another great addition to the Salt Lake area

Google
Food was good. Atmosphere was nice. Table was a little small but not too big of a deal. It seems to be a popping place so the lobby was packed. Felt like service was a little lacking when it came to drinks and chips and salsa refills.

Google
We got the Parrillada, Queso Fundido, Chips and Salsa, and the Churro Cheesecake. Our absolute favorite dish was the Queso Fundido. We choose Rajas, and Corn Tortillas with it instead of Chorizo. It was super good. Very very cheesey. Our Parrillada was decent, although the chicken was overcooked, and dry, everything else on the platter was tasty. The Salsa for the Chips was spicy, and fresh. The Cheesecake was delicious. Definitely a must try dessert. Biggest issue was the service. Although our server was nice, we had to ask for water refills, and she only came once. On top of that, they literally started busing our table before we even started to put our leftovers in boxes. Next thing you know we had to jump up, and grab our plates to hurry and shove the food away to go. The waitress never asked us if we wanted dessert, so she brought us our check, and then we had to ask her if it was ok to try the cheesecake. She then had to take our receipt back, bring the dessert, then a new check. Also, when we ordered the Queso, we thought we would have a minute to eat it before the Parrillada came out, but about 3-5 mins later, here it came. Definitely felt like we were being rushed to exit the Restaurant. They do close at 9 pm, and we were exiting the building at 9:07 pm.

Google
Chili Teppan has great Mexican food and probably the best margaritas in Salt Lake City. Seriously, they do a wonderful job here. Even if the line looks long, they get you in super quick. Service is great. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

Google
We really enjoyed this restaurant. The atmosphere, staff and food were really great! We ordered tamales, tacos, and enchiladas. The enchiladas were our favorite! We also got a flan. So good! Very reasonable pricing for really great food!

Yelp
Chile-Tepin was great! From the friendly service to the nice dining area with high ceilings, it was a great vibe. The carnitas were moist and flavorful, and all the sides that came with them were also fantastic. I've never had a beer with a salt and tajin rim, but I might just need to do that with all my future cervezas! Even the free salsa had much more flavor and spice than your average Mexican restaurant. All-in-all, a great experience.

Yelp
Call me picky but I prefer to not sit in my neighbor's lap while eating dinner. Take out 10% of the seating here and you would have a fairly decent Mexican restaurant where you could eat a meal and have a conversation with the people you came in with. By the time we were finished eating we knew the email address and the password for the lady sitting next to us. Of course we have opted not to make use of that information but it still seemed uncomfortable. The salsa served with the chips was good. It had a little spice to it which is to be expected. However, the chimichanga with shredded meat was dry and unseasoned. I find myself still searching for a decent chimi....sigh

Yelp
This place has been my bf's favorite, and as my first time, I wasn't disappointed! I got a smothered chicken chimichanga and some horchata, my bf always gets the carne asada burrito smothered. Food was good, no complaints! Our waitress was sweet and attentive. We went pretty late at 9 pm but the place was still really busy and full of people. Inside it's relatively clean, feels quaint with the decor, but the place is huge! My bf has said there's always a wait for dinner, but as late as we went there wasn't a line, which was nice.

Yelp
We were in town for a weekend and saw this place was near to the hotel. We enjoyed all the food we had! Queso fundido was tasty and came with plenty of tortillas. Chicken fajitas were cooked well and flavorful and was a generous portion. We also got a trio of tostada, enchilada and taco. We enjoyed all three but I'd recommend eating the tostada first so it doesn't get soggy! Service was super friendly and attentive. The inside of the restaurant had plenty of seating. Ambiance is modern and casual. Overall it's a solid choice for Mexican food in downtown SLC.

Yelp
Settled on Chile-Tepin while we were downtown the other day and trying to figure out lunch. I was always under the impression that it is more upscale than it is, but was pleasantly surprised that our jeans and jackets were not out of the norm. My husband ordered the carne asada and although I ordered the fajita de pollo salad, they brought me just fajitas. Not 100% sure what the difference is with the salad, other than the obvious! My husband loved his carne asada and the pollo was delicious with the charred peppers and onions. I love guacamole and was excited to have it with my pollo, but it was a bit on the spicy side for me. The refried beans were also delicious, I wish there were more beans and maybe less rice. Overall we enjoyed our lunch and would come again to try something different.

Yelp
Lunch at Chile Tepin and BAM! This queso is not your average runny nacho nonsense. We're talking thiiiiccckkkk queso, the kind that lets you know it's here to party and clog an artery or two. And we respect that. Shrimp enchilada was great too. Very warm, creamy, shrimp-packed goodness that makes you wonder why you ever bothered with sad desk lunches. Service has just the right amount of hustle, and the vibe is casual with a side of don't take yourself too seriously. Would I go back? Yes. Would I drown my enemies in that queso? Also yes.
google avatar

Yelp
Service was fast and nice. Wish they were more attentive, especially when it came to drinks and refills. The vibe was bland, almost no decor but had alot of natural light. Can be a problem with sunset with light reflecting off windows across the street. As for food, the chips and salsa was good and seasoned and has a good kick. I got the carne asade, the meat was actually cooked well and nicely seasoned. With the tortillas they give you, they make good leftovers as well. A very good place near the gateway and delta center if you want a place to before an event.

Yelp
Wow! This place is amazing. The food and the ambiance is so nice and beautiful I ordered the combo plate to go since my hotel is just across the street. Taco - Camaron Enchilada - Carnitas Tamal - Puerco Flan for dessert It tastes just as good as the pictures look and what blew me away was the flan. Oh my God that was so delicious! Five stars!
google avatar

Yelp
The servers here was pretty nice and the ambiance is pretty average for a sit-down restaurant in Salt Lake. The tables were pretty close to each other, which didn't really leave a lot of personal space per table. Also, the food portions were kinda weird. For the queso fundido, it only came with 3 tortillas...how would a family of 4 split up 3 tortillas? I feel like that appetizer should've come with like 6-8 tortillas minimum. Also, for the parrillada it came with 1 quarter of a lime...2 piece of queso fresco, and like 2 portions of quac and sour cream. Since the plate it listed as serving 2 people, I'm not sure 2 people are supposed to split 1 lime. I feel like a $36 plate should come with an abundance of these supporting features to enhance the meats. We likely won't be coming back here
google avatar

Yelp
Came back for a second time with a group and it's still good! Three orders of the parilladas (which each serve two people) and we were stuffed to the gills. Tremendous place worthy of a visit. Complimentary chips and salsa (which is spicy and I love it) always makes for a great start. Service is always fast and friendly. If you're hungry and downtown stop by!
google avatar

Yelp
Went with a group of 5 from work for lunch and ordered a variety of things including enchiladas and molcajete?. I got taco salad with carnitas and it was delicious- nicely sliced and generous amount. Service was quick and efficient and it's a nice roomy space with views north.

Yelp
Opening weekend of Les Misérables at the Eccles and therefore date night with my wife. Les Mis and Chili-Tepin. great night out. Great food, nice atmosphere and great location downtown only minutes from the theatre. A little history about the name and why some of their food has such a delicious smokey kick to it. The Chile-Tepin Pepper Our namesake is the chile-tepin pepper. As the only wild chile native to the U.S., the chile-tepin is very small in size and has an extremely pungent flavor with a distinctive, smoky bite. It is rated very hot, 8-9 on a scale of 10. At Chile-Tepin we use this beautiful little wild-harvested pepper in many of our sauces and dishes. Our go to is to share Parrillada, which gives a little bit of everything and easily big enough to share. It comes with grilled steak, shrimp and chicken, with a grilled onion, jalapeño pepper, chili-tepin sauce, pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole and flour and corn tortillas with melted cheese in them. And is so good. 5/5 Not sure why, as there was too much food for us both, but we also tried the Queso Fundido, melted cheese you can put in a tortilla. It was so tasty. 5/5 We were told there would be no wait before 5:30pm on a Saturday, but showed up at 5:00 pm to a twenty minute wait. They do not accept reservations.

Yelp
Love this place for authentic Mexican food. Warmly greeted and quickly seated upon arrival. Our server was a sweet older Mexican woman making me feel like I was eating at an abuela's kitchen! Food was delivered quickly and tasty. I had the two item combo with shrimp enchilada and cheese tamale. Husband had the chicken chimichanga. Parking was easy. The dining area was wide open with big windows and very clean.

Yelp
Came on a Saturday night before the JT concert. Definitely packed out there were 8 of us and it was a 45 min wait. Not too bad went by quick with friends times flies! We got seated and I must have missed the part where there are no menus.. it was all of our first time there and we felt confused. I don't like when restaurants do this but understand maybe it's easier for them. I immediately said oh we need to scan the QR code. Chips and salsa were brought. Yes please! Super good chips tasted home made and salsa had the perfect kick. The waiter was kind and he immediately asked if it was separate check. We said yes and he was on it. Super nice about it too! I ordered two item dinners with a carne asada taco and chicken fluata Our drinks and food came out quick. Carne asada taco was really good! Actual steak slices! Fluata was also really good. Chicken was season perfectly. Rice and beans were good . I thoroughly enjoyed my meal! Is it packed yes! But it's worth it. You also can't beat the prices! My friends ordered Mocajete and shared between more then 2 people and they all said it was delicious Others ordered chimichanga and also said it was super good! I want to bring my husband back

Mauricio U.

Yelp
4 of us went on a Friday night at 7pm. It was packed but the hostess said the wait time is 10 min. We thought that was crazy fast and it was. We sat, they immediately brought chips, salsa and waters. We placed our order a few minutes later, food came out quick! It was great and they kept refilling our drinks without asking. It was fabulous, I'm kinda blown away at the food and service
google avatar

Yelp
I love Chile-Tepin! It's a great delicious option for Mexican food. The service is great and the location is right in downtown. They have great drink options and a large menu.
google avatar

Sadie B.

Yelp
Been dying to try this place for awhile now and so happy I finally went! This place is a great Mexican restaurant with a cool vibe and lots of plants They have a parking lot that you don't have to pay for downtown and the worker helped us make sure we got a spot. We waited for about 20 minutes before getting seated. We got a crispy Coke Zero and complementary chips and salsa to start. I ordered the veggie smothered burrito with rice and beans. The rice was delicious and this was a hefty, filling burrito with fajita veggies inside. I really liked it, super good with the guac on top! My boyfriend got the steak quesadilla, which he also liked but said some pieces were a little tough, he wished he'd had gotten the chicken. Our waiter was super nice and attentive! Great place and not too pricy!
google avatar

Jacob S.

Yelp
I had a colleague at work who is raving about Chile-Tepin. Sometimes with such high expectations, you were a little, but none of us were disappointed. Lots of great options on the menu and everything was delicious. Most opted for the fajitas, which were absolutely delicious or a combo platter, which was perfect. The service was wonderful. The ambience is amazing definitely five stars and worth trying.
google avatar

Kristine N.

Yelp
This restaurant was a let down. The service was okay but food and drinks aren't anything appealing My Cadillac margarita tasted like nothing and didn't taste like it was freshly made. Probably a batch they have just sitting there My carne asada and tortillas had no flavor at all. I think there are better Mexican restaurants in the Salt Lake City area

Mike H.

Yelp
We had the mole and a carne asada burrito...both dishes were bland, not much flavor. Want too much no I se...servers continually sliding hairs and tables around to accommodate large groups coming in to dine.
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
This place is consistently great. Even the sides are delicious and seem to be thoughtfully prepared.
google avatar

Melinda H.

Yelp
My husband and I are always on the lookout for New Mexican restaurants. We usually aren't downtown but today we braved the Summer heat and walked a few blocks to try out Chile-Tepin. The restaurant was super clean and air conditioned. It almost looks like it set is in a well lit office building but they decorate the exterior with live cactus plants. The restaurant was pretty busy for a Thursday night and the food was amazing. We started off with carne asada nachos which are a meal in themselves. And very quickly after we had our full order on the table. (We had to take about half the food to go) the sauce was my favorite part. A lot of restaurants can make great meat but the sauce at chile-tepid sets them apart; Nothing bitter and everything well balanced and full of flavor. This restaurant deserves to be named among the greats in Salt lake, we will be coming back!
google avatar

Camille W.

Yelp
My favorite thing about Chile Tepin is their food. It's tasty and not too heavy. The drinks left something to be desired. It tends to get quite loud when it's busy so can be difficult to enjoy a conversation. I also felt rushed to order and finish our meal, which made the night less than enjoyable.
google avatar

Suzana G.

Yelp
Some of the best food in SLC! Service is really good especially for how busy it is. You need to get the horchata--some of the best in Utah. Everything here is great but I love the Parrillada plate to share.
google avatar

Stephanie P.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I got the molcajete with chicken and carne asada. The molcajete is about $31, save your money. The dish is very small, and full of a huge onion and two small pieces of cheese. Mid lacking flavor, I'm not impressed. Restaurant is nice and I like the plants by the windows.
google avatar

Lindsay W.

Yelp
Came solo on a Thursday and not very crowded. Mind you I arrived at 430 lol Started with chips and salsa. The salsa was good but definitely had a spicy kick to it!! Got the carne asada it came with rice and beans. The beans was not that great. A lot of liquid and I think it had hot dogs in it, not my jam. Rice was tasty. The beef was a bit overcooked and chewy but had good flavor.
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
Margaritas were great. They made parking relatively easy downtown. If you're looking for pretty good Mexican fare in a more upscale but not too upscale this is a great place. I'd come back and bring friends. It's a lively atmosphere and you have to make a reservation on Friday and Saturday nights.
google avatar

Mindy A.

Yelp
Always great food! The service was mediocre this time, but usually it's great. They were busy when I went and had a wait for about 20 mins. Chips and salsa are good. Fajitas were delicious! Sometimes it can get a little loud, but nothing too much. Conversation can still be had.
google avatar

Bekah C.

Yelp
Can Chile-Tepin become the officially Mexican Must-Try of SLC? This place is always a good idea! The food is phenomenal every single time. (In all honesty, I only ever order the Parrillada to share. But it's so good I wouldn't dare trying anything else.) The queso is a new favorite! There's something about using the corn/flour tortillas as a cheese vessel that just hits the spot. It's basically a quesadilla in every bite. Genius! I also really appreciate how friendly the staff is! From the kid in the parking lot helping navigate the limited space, to the table service. Everyone makes you feel welcome and like they want you to sit back, relax, and enjoy your dining experience from beginning to end.

Alan S.

Yelp
Visited from 2 states away, stumbled upon this place and enjoyed the food greatly! The wait to get in was long and annoying, but once in to be seated, I realized why. It was excellent in service with the nicest staff. Food was over the top great!! Went back again...14 hour drive from my house!!!!!
google avatar

D C.

Yelp
Just what a Texas girl needed. Fresh & filling. Will be back to try other foods and drink. Today I ordered the tostadas w/chicken. Very good and fresh.
google avatar

Raj S.

Yelp
Was in town on a work trip and stopped in here for dinner. Wasn't super hungry so just had the Toritos de Camaron, chips and guac and a beer. Food was delicious. The hostess, Claudia, was a real gem, super friendly and on the ball. Glad I picked this spot.
google avatar

Connie G.

Yelp
Came here with. Group of 8 for the bad bunny pregame! I made sure to call in the reservation a couple days in advance since I wanted to make sure they would be able to accommodate us. I didn't get a confirmation in between but when I go there, they were able to accommodate us. The food: we had the molcajete, flautas, quesadillas, Queso and chorizo fundido and loaded nachos. The flavor was good 7/10 the portions were large! Of course we also have a couple drinks and they were not bad for Utah lol. The service, 9/10 they were fast and friendly!
google avatar

Vicki L.

Yelp
Friendly service. Tasty steak taco. Busy spot. No reservations- but wait time is accurate.
google avatar

Yuna C.

Yelp
Make sure not to get full on the chips and salsa! These chips were perfectly and just salted enough to make you want another one. We also ordered the Queso - which was very Instagram-worthy with the intense cheese pull. I like how the Queso had some sautéed peppers and onions as a garnish to help add some dimension in terms of flavor. As a starter we also got the shrimp-stuffed peppers, which I found resembles greatly with a dumpling as it was served with a soy sauce-like glaze. But all in all really succulent and delicious, especially if wrapped in the flour tortilla it was served with. As for the main (at this point I was full already!), I got the Choose Any Two Combinations which I think is very reasonably priced at $11 - you can choose between tacos, enchiladas, tamales, tostones which will all be served with rice and beans. And the portions are more than generous!
google avatar

Samantha F.

Yelp
Incredible place. Don't be scared by how busy it is or how many people are waiting they move quick here! We came at 7 on a Saturday and the place was packed and were told 15-20 minutes which seemed crazy. 20 minutes later we were at our table. The service is amazing, they're quick and friendly here. The food is also top notch. Chips and salsa as soon as you sit. Salsa has a kick but it really good. We ordered carne asada fajitas and carne asada plate. Portion sizes were so good for the price, honestly it was so much food and every bite was so delicious. I honestly can't say enough good throngs about this place, stop reading and just go!

Justin P.

Yelp
Best Mexican food I've had in Utah highly recommend to everyone. The service was extremely nice. The environment was fantastic as well. Easy to find. Good parking 10/10
google avatar

Desirae C.

Yelp
Extraordinary cuisine is served here. The dishes are fresh and unique. I love everything I have ordered here and each time I visit I try something different. It can get pretty crowded depending on the evening or time you visit so plan accordingly. Parking is available on the street and at the numerous parking lots around. The staff is very attentive, and they work hard to get everything hot to the tables while it is still hot. The fresh guacamole is a must!
google avatar

Lauren B.

Yelp
Great Mexican spot with lots of bang for your buck. Huge portions, flavorful dishes. Queso fundido was outstanding, loved the chile relleno. Husband absolutely loved the alambres de res. Wouldn't get the cadilac margarita again. It was ok but nothing special. Loved the chips that come to the table and the rice and beans were FIRE. Vegetarian tamale was delicious as well. Enchilada was great as well. Next time I will try something new because it was all great!
google avatar

Austin T.

Yelp
We got a dish that served 2 people and it was incredible! Very memorable experience. We also got the nachos. Service was excellent - be careful not to eat too many chips!
google avatar

David W.

Yelp
We had a large group Of 10 that we seemed to constantly wait for seating. Over an hour and 15 min wait. The they tried to squeeze us into 2 tables. Finally able get another table when a table next to us finished.
google avatar

Lydia T.

Yelp
Enjoyed a work lunch here with a few people. We were warmly greeted and sat immediately. It wasn't very busy as we arrived after the lunch crowd. It's a large space with a lot of seating. We started with complimentary chips and salsa. Four of us shared two Molcajete Entrees. The presentation of the bowl was fun and included chicken, shrimp, steak, cheese, onion, jalapeños and sauce. It was served with warm tortillas. The flavors of the Molcajete were amazing. It also came with a side of rice and beans. It could have used some additional condiments like salsa. There wasn't enough for us to have for the two orders and it was difficult to get someone to come back to our table. They were nice but not as attentive or checking in as needed. The plates were large and filled the table with not a lot of room to comfortable eat but we made it work. Food was enough for four of us. We will be back.
google avatar

Claira D.

Yelp
I went mid day and it was not crowded at all. Our server was nice and checked in on us multiple times to ask if there was anything we needed. I ordered the chicken fajita salad and it was perfect if you're looking for a lighter meal.
google avatar

donald z.

Yelp
I had Chile Tepin five years ago and have been craving it ever since. Finally back, and the beans are still amazing - simple yet perfect. The food here is authentic, with flavors that transport you straight to Mexico. The atmosphere is cozy, making it a delightful spot for a meal. If you appreciate good, straightforward Mexican cuisine, this place is a must-visit.
google avatar

Desiree V.

Yelp
By far the best Mexican food I've ever encountered in Utah! Seriously seasoned perfectly, spice on par, service wonderful, margaritas even more wonderful. 5 stars
google avatar

Vanessa W.

Yelp
Used to be a good place but then they started charging extra for tortillas. And they only give you very few with your meal. Just feels like im being nickel and dimed. Service has been lacking lately. They made a margarita super strong and said they couldn't make it differently. It's too bad, this place used to be a favorite.

Shareef W.

Yelp
This place was awesome! We are from Cali and the wife and I are always trying Mexican food while out of town. 9 out of 10 times they horrible. Honestly if this place was back home we make be of our regular places. Not only because of the food but the place was nice and clean. And then lastly the service was on spot. This was probably one of the best out of state Mexican places we have been.

Daniel M.

Yelp
one of the best. always packed but they turn over tables fast! yelp is dumb - 85 words

Yelp
Busy place, got sat right away. Guacamole is delicious, the salsa has great flavor, i thought it was hot (spicy) Fun ambiance. So friendly.. absolutely delicious
