What You Need to Know to Trek Patagonia's Torres Del Paine

"The Chileno campsite and refugio are further up the trail, allowing for a shorter hike the next day to the base of the Torres — called Mirador ('lookout') Las Torres." - Travel + Leisure Editors

The food here was good. Bathrooms were not that great and the biggest issue is that the washrooms are basically a hike away from the "premium campsite" if you don't buy the full equipment package. Having said that, it's a good place to stay if your plan is to see the sunrise at the towers. The service was good though, they helped me figure out my meals around the sunrise hike. And well, it's expensive for sure.

It was wonderful. The staff were friendly. The tents were comfy, warm and windproof with great sleeping bags and pillows. An excellent night’s sleep. We had a really good three course meal, and breakfast was good too. And beer and wine. The bathrooms were clean, with showers. What more could anyone want! I DO NOT understand the negative reviews at all. THANK YOU CHILENO REFUGIO

We stayed in the pre erected tents. You need to stay here if you want to see the mirador las Torres at sunrise. The tents were large and well maintained, although ours was quite a long walk from the facilities. The bathrooms had hot water and were clean - make sure you go as soon as you arrive in the afternoon as they will be cleanest. We had the dinner and it was very good - restaurant quality on a mountain, we were impressed! The staff were also friendly. The main downside is that in the afternoon the bar / restaurant is very busy with day hikers and there are lots of flies because of all the food.

The prebuilt raised tents were fantastic, though some are perched rather steeply making it challenging for the vertically challenged. The restaurant is great. Love the pizzas! The entire Refugio grounds are great, though they close the showers and washrooms during strange times.

240 USD for a so-called 'fully equiped' tent that ended up not even having sleeping mats. The mats were probably supposed to be built into the tent floor but because they've been used so much it's like sleeping on a plank. Regardless, it's an insane price for a tent, prices for food are just as crazy and the self-cooking area for regular hikers is an afterthought at best. The place clearly tries to cater to rich tourists who don't care how much money they spend. It's all about making as much off of its visitors as they can. Sadly, places like this are ruining Patagonia for the majority of people.

This was my least favorite refugio that I stayed at in the park. Staff were rude and irritable. Very crowded with day-trippers. Showers were hot but not a single hook or bench or knob to hang your towel etc. But the main reason I'm leaving this review is to let visitors know that Mirador Las Torres CLOSES at 3pm. There is no signage indicating this until miles past the refuge. I arrived at the Chileno refuge around 12pm and made the mistake of waiting until their 2pm checkin before continuing my hike up, and it was closed at that time.

The paid dinner was some super delicious lasagna with starters and dessert. Tents were very clean too. You can do your sunrise hike from here but do remember to bring your head torch! We started at 4am. It wasn’t an easy hike so be prepared!

Mountain Hostel El Chileno is an incredible place to stay. The location is stunning, and the tents were surprisingly comfortable. Although getting there was a bit challenging, the warm welcome made it worthwhile. The staff were exceptionally friendly and went out of their way to help with anything we needed. Special thanks to Rose, who was incredibly kind, helpful, and provided amazing service throughout our stay. The only aspect that could use improvement is the food, which wasn’t satisfying and didn’t match the high prices. For example, we paid $220 for full board for two people for one night, and the overall cost of staying there was steep. Despite this, the beautiful surroundings and the exceptional service made the experience very enjoyable.
