Best Dishes D.C. Editors Ate This Week: October 24 | Eater DC

"Chinatown’s new brightly lit Chili Bistro was calling my name on a Friday night walk along 7th Street NW. The futuristic space that starts with a silvery ceiling and zippy LED decor seems to grow as you move around, and the rectangular-shaped room reveals plenty of stylish dining nooks situated under huge orbs of light. The all-day weekday happy hour is ridiculously good, when most starters are half-off. I only wish I knew about the dine-in-only deals before I got its hot chile wontons to-go ($12). We ended up just eating the 10-piece order on-site at the nearly-empty bar that deserves more attention. The draft lines weren’t up just yet, but an IPA bottle poured nicely into an icy glass the bartender pulled fresh from the freezer." - Tierney Plumb

This was some absolutely delicious food. From the fried chili oil wontons to the shrimp and broccolin, every bite seemed to get better and better. Also some of the best beef lo main I've eaten. Fried rice was honestly just okay. My husband ordered a drink and while we were surprised by the price he said it was a very well made drink. We'd definitely go back if we were in the area again. The reviews I looked at before we went did not lie about the quality and service.

Google
Visiting the area and I think we found the best Asian restaurant in DC. We tried a little bit of everything and it all hit. Ramen was some of the best I’ve ever had. Great pork taste and a ton of fresh ingredients. The soup dumplings literally bursting with flavor. Crab rangoons were the best I’ve ever had.

Great quick meal at Chili Bistro. Very large selection that took me a minute to settle in on what I wanted. Ended up with the sushi lunch meal that the sushi was so fresh it made me melt. Mixed the spicy and regular soup dumplings which was also very good. Staff was attentive and place was large and accommodating. Near convention center.

Best asian restaurant in Dc Chinatown!!! I'm very surprised they have happy hour Monday to Friday ALL DAY, 50%OFF all appetizer and $8 cocktail. I had a order Buckwheat noodle green bowl, great value for the quality and portion size! The bowls are packed with protein and fresh vegetables, and everything is cooked perfectly. You really get a lot for the price, which is hard to find these days. The staff was friendly, patient, and efficient, making the whole experience smooth and pleasant. The food came out quickly and was beautifully plated, showing real attention to detail. Delicious, filling, affordable, and great service — this place checks all the boxes. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a satisfying meal with excellent value. Will definitely be coming back!

The missing star is for the service. Rather disappointing that our server didn't know the menu. I asked simple questions like, "what comes with it?" Also never filed my drink until it had been empty for a bit and I had to ask for it. The food was delicious. Beef and broccoli, beef fried rice, cucumber salad and pork soup dumplings were on point. We paid in cash and they gave me the wrong change twice. Once they shorted themselves like $60 the next time they shorted me $10. The manager was on point and very service oriented. I'm suspecting it's new people working there?? Either way, it's a place I'd go back to and try other dishes, hopefully to get another server.

Anaya was the best servicer. We started off with the kimchi and the spicy chili oil wontons! Wonderful recommendation! Then we proceeded with the spicy soup dumplings, not featured. They were excellent and I would get them again. Last week we did one special role of softshell crab and three regular rolls! Was our first time here and will absolutely be coming back.

Such a nice place right at the start of china town. The sushi is so fresh, recommend the salmon roll, salmon avocado and tuna avocado. The crispy tuna rice was so yummy. Miso soup always hits the spot, the chicken teriyaki was also yummy. The prices are so good for happy hour. Perfect lunch spot!

Very helpful and accommodating waitress who took time to explain menu items and offer suggestions! Hot, fresh, deliciously satisfying meals. We shared fried pork dumplings, sizzling bulgogi, General Tso’s, kung pao (one really likes it hot and they brought a spicier oil to accommodate!). Clean, upbeat atmosphere made conversations easy.

Yelp
The restaurant is so spacious and nicely designed inside. For food, I recommend getting the yellowtail jalepeno. It is so fresh and delicious if you like raw fish! The salt and pepper squid was also yummy with the sauce to dip on the side. The lucky six soup dumplings provide a variety if you're not sure which filling to get. Great during a chilly day! The spicy crawfish is great for spicy lovers. It comes in a big clay pot with Asian spices. It's so good even for someone like me who can't handle spice well (do share though!). The service is great. The waiter kept checking in on us to see if we needed anything and even packed our leftovers for us.

Yelp
I visited this spot the other day on my tour of Downtown DC. I was impressed with the sushi I got...but that was all I got!! So I decided to pull up to see what other things they have on their menu! LET'S GO!! . Where I am: @chilibistro825.dc . Location Reviewed: 825 7th St., N.W. Washington D.C. . Items Reviewed: LIKE THAT!! Their Yellow Tail Jalapeno Sushi Appetizer ($ thinly sliced yellow tail, sashimi, jalapeno, & their chef sauce). If raw fish is your thing...this app is for you!! Well seasoned, & lemony!! STAMP!! Their Spicy Chili Oil Wontons ($12 with chicken on the inside of the wonton). Spicy hot, thick, & flavorful!! LIKE THAT! Their Lemon Pepper Wings ($10 for six fried lemon pepper dusted wings). These did the job, crispy, peppery, & lemony!! STAMP!! Their Lucky 6 Dumplings ($18 with 2 pork dumplings, 1 chicken dumpling, a black truffle dumpling, a veggie, & a crab dumpling). Yelp
I am rested take out on the way home. The hostess was kind, polite and helpful. She took my order fast and then I waited, and I waited and then waited some more. There was barely anyone in the place and it took a century and a day for the sushi to come. It finally came and it was good, not great, not the best I've ever had but a solid good. Would I come back again? I'd give it one more shot with the hopes the order doesn't take forever.

Yelp
Hmm, was craving Dan Dan noodles and saw this place had it on themed but no reviews. I got the food to go, but the Dan Dan noodles were ok. The sauce was more peanut strong than spicy. The cucumber salad didn't have that crisp bite or spicy flavor. Overall, it's okay, but I wouldn't get it.

Yelp
I had a great experience here before an event at Cap One. We shared several smaller dishes, with the standouts being the Crispy Rice, the Soup Dumplings, and the Shrimp Tempura. The food probably won't blow your mind, but it hits the spot. Service was attentive and fast. The atmosphere was nicer than expected at this price point. Prices were very reasonable since they run Happy Hour all-day long on weekdays.

Yelp
We arrived to the restaurant, cold and hungry and looking for any restaurant that would be willing to accommodate us. After being turned down by two restaurants, the staff of Chili Bistro welcomed us despite only being opened for half an hour more. Our server George was funny and welcoming, he was very attentive and the food was delicious. Easy five stars!

Yelp
Good happy hour deals with 50% off appetizers and the wontons were really good. But nowhere does it say that you need to buy an alcoholic drink to get happy hour. I don't drink, and I had to buy alcohol to get the deal

Yelp
I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. It's clear that a lot of passion and care goes into every detail, from the food to the service. We will undoubtedly be returning very soon!

Yelp
Sat in the bar and waited for 10 minutes to have the bartender acknowledge our table. Ordered two sushi roll special for $15. Two six piece sushi rolls that were absolutely the worse sushi I have ever had. No flavor and had a gritty texture when chewing. Two co-workers ordered chicken fried rice and I went with sesame chicken entree with fried rice. Sesame chicken was ok but the fried rice was terrible. The chicken in the fried rice looked like strips of calamari instead of chicken. NO WAY THIS PLACE HAS A LEGITIMATE 4.3 RATING!!!

Chris K.

Yelp
If you want the thrill of wondering whether you're being pranked while dining then this is the place for you. Gas station sushi would be a better choice over this place. Highlight of the meal? Leaving the place.

Randall K.

Yelp
Huge portion of perfectly cooked Bulgogi. The place is new and staff was very friendly.

Yelp
Food was so delicious, definitely coming back for more. Benjamin, our server, was excellent, so nice, helped a curate a wonderful evening. We were especially impressed by the long island iced teas that were delicious. Highly recommend this place! :)
