Chimmelier - Review - Fairfax - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Chimmelier, one of our favoriteKorean fried chickenspots, is now a larger sit-down restaurant on Fairfax (that’s still proudly decked out in red and yellow). The new location has pocha-style metal tables and mashes the menus from the originalChimmelierand the team’s sibling nighttime conceptJilli, with honey butter wings, tteokbokki, and shrimp toast, plus soju, beer, and makgeolli." - Cathy Park

The food was delicious and the service was EVEN BETTER! we went today and Allan helped us out! He was awesome! He had great recommendations! So we ordered everything he said! Once we got our food, i asked for something spicy and he brought us two different sauces that were bomb! He explained all the history and everything about the sauces and drinks! I absolutely love when I can go somewhere and the staff make it feel so special! He was super knowledgeable and friendly! The chicken was so nice and crispy! I wish i would have ordered the sauce on the side so i could try more sauces! And i highly recommend the shrimp toast! Those were amazing! The restaurant ambience was cool! Felt like korean street food!

I am so happy this location opened. I love this spot so much. You literally cannot go wrong with anything you order here. But, I always have to have my shrimp toast. The staff here is so friendly as well. The vibes are always great. I cannot wait to come back.

Got their chicken jr sando combo ($15 after tax 2025) Even though it was jr the sandwich was still pretty big. The chicken was chicken thigh I think and it was juicy and crisp with I think a yangyeom seasoning. Pickles weren’t as crunchy as I would like them to be. Sauce tasted like your average mayo based red tinted sauce. Bun was nice and buttered. Fries were slightly sweet and crisp. Fair amount of food for the price and area.

Google
Best chicken in Los Angeles! The portions are generous and everything is delicious — from the Popcorn Chicken and K-Chicken Burger to the Shrimp Toast, Kimchi Fried Rice, and French Fries. The space is super clean, the staff is really friendly, and the overall vibe makes you want to come back. Highly recommend!!

Google
This is arguably the best Korean dining experience in Southern California. Kevin, the owner, is passionate about his local business and uses only the finest and freshest ingredients. The K-Chicken burger and jumbo bone-in sauced wings are spectacular, as is the shrimp toast. The sauces are amazing and available from mild to spicy. Everything is cooked fresh to order, as perfection cannot be rushed. Chimmelier on Melrose is a hidden gem that also boasts its original location in Koreatown. Let Kevin and his Team blow away your taste buds!!! Please disregard the 1 Star review as it appears the customer had an issue with Door Dash, not the restaurant or its amazing food. And yes, my 5 Star review is legit!!!

Google
THE BEST Korean fried chicken I've ever had!! Perfectly crunchy, fresh and just high quality! The tteokbokki was perfectly made. The fries were really good and the sauces were amazing. I recommend this place highly and it’s somewhere I will return to frequently. The service and staff are EXCEPTIONAL!!

Yelp
Chimmelier is a hit!! Super casual dining, fast food style but homey. Parking for this location is on the street like any other LA spots. Very small spot but if you avoid lunch and dinner times you will be solid! The service is very good with thorough menu explanation and they don't rush you :) their chicken combo is great as well as the SHRIMP TOAST!!! Must try. You have options for alchy so you can get the chicken wings with beer or yogurt soju (try it out you won't regret). Definitely recommend this spot! Or other chummier too :)

Yelp
The neighborhood doesn't need another bland chain restaurant serving up mediocre fast food. Everything was expensive and lacked real flavor; from the soggy kimchi "fried" rice, to the nachos with tiny broken tortillas and crappy nacho cheese, and the uninspired fried chicken sandwich. The staff were great though.

Yelp
I had not heard of Chimmelier until I saw an internet post describing someone's experience at their newest location. While they also have a spot near MacArthur Park, this branch is on Melrose Avenue. Once I entered, I was impressed by the colorful interior design and ample seating space. The customer service was also friendly though ordering was via a touchscreen. I got the OG K-Popcorn chicken combo which came with fries and a soda. The quantity of food was more than enough for one meal, and I appreciated having chicken leftovers to take home. The fries came with a dusting of seasoning, but I found the chicken to be bland and one-note even though I liked the crispy exterior. I know they offer flavor variations but I did not expect the basic popcorn chicken option to be under-seasoned.

Yelp
I was so excited to try Chimmelier after having another location bookmarked for so long, but unfortunately my experience was disappointing. It was slow. In a near empty restaurant our order still took over 30 minutes. Our food finally came out and looked amazing. Bit into a fry and it was cold. The outside was nice and hot and crispy, but the inside was still cold/frozen. They graciously took it back and made another batch, but it was a rocky start after a long wait. As a big fan of Korean fried chicken, I'm sad to say the chicken wings were not good. The wings were well fried and crunchy, but were severely under seasoned and the batter was super dry and powdery, like there was too much flour or corn starch. I think they forgot the salt. The yangyum sauced wings were better, but still couldn't mask the bland chicken meat inside. The good-The chicken sandwich is great and really saved the meal. It was huge and came with juicy chicken that was well seasoned and had unique burger toppings. The workers were friendly and the space is a chill hangout spot. Hoping I just came on an off day when everything just went wrong, but I'm not rushing to revisit anytime soon.

Yelp
Ventured out to try this restaurant on a night that I had a huge craving for Korean fried chicken and I wasn't disappointed! Chimmelier was easy to locate and parking was no issue. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the staff who were super nice and explained how we could either order with them or through the screen. Food was delicious! We ordered the 8 piece chicken wings with fries. The sauces were the star point and I loved trying each one to see which one paired better with my chicken and fries. I love the overall concept of the restaurant. It has a fun vibe and the great music added to it as well. There's a good amount of seating which my friend and I took advantage of. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
I ordered takeout, Lots of options, we went with cheese bowl, honey butter popcorn chicken and the gochujang wings. The cheese bowl was meh, I'd pass. Cheese wasn't melted and just tasted off.: The chicken was all super yummy, personally I'm just not a big sweet chicken fan. The honey butter is pretty sweet, didn't take much like the honey butter I was imagining but still good. It's quite a wet sauce and found it to be more wet than the wings. It was pretty expensive here compared to other spots... It's bold to call themselves the best Korean chicken in LA on their package when they just opened but still a nice place and I would go back to dry a dry rub option for sure. I would have ordered more but chicken for 2, and a corn cup no drinks was 80$ on post mates so couldn't justify trying more.

Yelp
I've been here several times since the grand opening. It is really nice having this location which is closer to where I live. The food has always been delicious. My current favorite item is the kimchi fried rice. As someone who normally doesn't like any spice this dish really hits the spot. Very tasty and just the right flavors. The honey butter chicken is super delicious and everyone I share with also agrees. The staff here is really great as well. Highly recommend it!

Yelp
Great service. Friendly owner. I ordered the yangyum, spicy dry rub, original, and galbi. They were all delicious. Photos don't do the chicken justice. Will come again.

Yelp
There is nothing about this place that does not warrant a full 5 star review. This my new favorite and go to spot for Korean fried chicken. Thankful for this location closer to home. Pricing is fair and they offer discounts. Portions are great for this casual eatery that makes you feel like you're walking through a Korean comic book. Staff couldn't be better as they are so kind and helpful. The items to for sure get include their kimchi infused thousand island sauce, fried chicken in the dry spicy rub (OMFG) this resembles Nashville style hot chicken and the spicy and sweet sauce (similar to what is expected from a Korean fried chicken spot), and their house made pickled radish. Thank me later!

Brody B.

Yelp
Chimmelier is the spot if you're looking for the best Korean-inspired chicken in the city--period. The moment you walk in, it hits you with a 90's vibe mixed with The Last Dragon energy, and I was here for ALL of it. The atmosphere is fun, nostalgic, and instantly sets the tone. And let me tell you about Allan G... He doesn't even know we're besties now, because everything he recommended was top-tier. The chicken? Fresh, braised for 24 hours, perfectly crispy, and seasoned like somebody's auntie was back there praying over it. The dry rub? Fire. The honey butter? Listen... whew. I'm still thinking about it. Customer service was superb--genuinely warm, welcoming, and on point from start to finish. Melrose better wake up and FLOOD this spot, because Chimmelier is absolutely that place.

Yelp
Best chicken in LA!!! Great place for family and groups. Try Yang Yum sauce on your chicken. Go have the best Korean fried chicken and street food. Great vibe!!

Yelp
Shrimp Toast?! Outside of the SGV?! SAY LESS! We popped in here before a show at The Groundlings for some wings (delicious but could have used more heat) tteokbokki (could have also used more heat but loved the deep-fried chewiness) and shrimp toast (a little greasy but really good) - all good, would go back!
google avatar

Yelp
This food is fire! Especially the sides- the kimchi fried rice and shrimp toast stole the show. Those are both must haves! The chicken was really solid. I got the OMFG and honey butter with the 8 piece family meal and really enjoyed. The honey butter was a surprise, but really tasty. The OMFG wasn't too spicy, but throwing some of that ranch on it was incredible! All of this at the suggestion of Allan G who was the man behind the counter and helmed my order helping and answering all my questions with a smile. I'll definitely be back and I'll be bringing friends to go to town (especially once they are able to serve beer and saki)!

Yelp
Just picked up take out. First time trying. Food 9.8 Service 10+ If you want Korean Fried chicken, this would be hard to beat. We had the OG popcorn dry, the honey butter wings, and Yang Yum wings. Loved the wings and both were a 10/10. Personally the Honey Butter were my fav but I love chicken wings with small honey sweetness so I can add some Louisiana Hot Sauce or Crystal. The popcorn chicken was a 8.5-9 but still better than most KFC spots in Ktown. He threw in some other sauces for free and I'm so glad he did because never in a million years would I have ordered the Rose (creamy tomato) and its honestly my fav. With the popcorn chicken its seriously tastes like a chicken parm with every bite. Its confusing and I couldn't be happier. Have to point out that what looked like the owner helped me and he went above and beyond. My dumbass showed up on my ebike thinking I could put everything in my backpack. Nope. Way too much food. He helped me with a huge plastic trash bag so I could make it home the 8-9 blocks home. Saved me. Extra bonus for the chocolates he also threw in. Will be eating this again.

Yelp
I ordered from Chimmelier Korean Fried Chicken on Postmates and got the K-Popcorn Chicken and the Drums & Thighs (Galbi Soy Garlic flavor). I first tried Chimmelier's chicken at Jilli and loved it, so I decided to order for delivery. Honestly, the quality felt a bit better when I had it at Jilli, even though it's supposed to be the same chicken. That said, it was still really good -- super crunchy with great flavor and a tasty batter. One small thing I noticed: about half of the popcorn chicken pieces were heavily breaded while the other half weren't as much. It still tasted great, just a small inconsistency. The drums and thighs were delicious -- the Galbi Soy Garlic flavor was amazing, really rich and savory. The only downside was that they arrived a bit soggy and wet, but I'll chalk that up to delivery since it's hard to keep fried chicken crispy in transit. Overall, the food was flavorful and satisfying, and I'll definitely be back -- next time I'll go in person for the full, fresh experience! I have nothing to say about service or ambience as it was delivery will update review once I go in person! Honorable Mention their ranch is amazing!

Yelp
Delicious and hot! Great spot for chicken needed on the Melrose strip. The place looks great, received friendly and fast service. We ordered the toast, popcorn chicken which you get a lot of and the kimchee fried rice. I highly recommend to try.

Yelp
This was incredible. I know my photos don't do it justice but I'm blown away by the service and quality + flavor profile. The texture of the wings was perfect and the depth of flavor was insane. I've been to Seoul and Busan and can confidently say this is on par with the best food I've had there. The owner was so nice and gave me a free drink + chocolate covered almonds. Will definitely be back

Yelp
Glad to have this open up in the neighborhood so we don't have to go to ktown for good Korean fried chicken. The wings are deliciously seasoned and very crispy. The wings also were very meaty and tender. Definitely recommend over any chain places. Next time I want to try the popcorn chicken. Eater said it was one of the best things they ate.

Chuong N.

Yelp
Checked out this weekend and had a great experience! We got the drumstick + thigh combo with yangnyeom and galbi sauces, both tasted amazing. Seasoned perfectly. Their fried tteokbokki and corn cheese also went perfectly as sides. Service was great and the guy that helped us out gave us all the recommendations.

Yelp
Ok I had a day old cold from the fridge chicken sandwich (son's leftovers)... and it was awesome... the sandwich was huge the prices were very reasonable... solid place to get your fix.

Richard P.

Yelp
Probably the best Korean fried chicken in LA! So glad they opened up on Melrose. I used to go to the Ktown spot all the time and order delivery way too often. The new place has a great vibe and fun energy, and they have alcohol! The chicken burger is my fav, and don't sleep on the rice cakes and fries. They're fire. Easily one of my favorite spots. HUGE portions, super crispy, and delicious sauces.

John K.

Yelp
Getting ready to put myself in a food coma for this place! Food is consistently good and it's amazing to know they're opening up another location for me to go to Big fan of the chicken burger and sando too

Hanna H.

Yelp
New chicken spot in town. Went in on a weekday night and so glad they are open. The chicken is super crispy and flavorful. The honey butter flavor was my favorite. Also dont skip out on the shrimp toast and the kimchi fried rice. Packaging is also super cute and well thought out. Service was also very helpful and friendly. They gave great recomendations. Go here when you're in melrose! Good to see the west side of la getting more Korean options.

Yelp
The staff was super friendly and made me feel welcome right away, which made the meal even better. Definitely a spot I'll keep coming back to whenever I'm craving great Korean fried chicken!

Royed L.

Yelp
As a longtime fan of Chimmelier's Koreatown location, I was so excited to hear they were opening another spot in Fairfax -- perfect for when I'm in the area! My friends recently ordered delivery from this new location, and I was really impressed. The quality, flavor, and crispiness of the chicken were exactly what I've come to expect from Chimmelier -- which is to say: absolutely delicious. The sauces were spot-on, and everything traveled really well (which isn't always the case with fried chicken). Can't wait for the grand opening so I can dine in and get the full experience. Always a go-to spot for Korean fried chicken

David S.

Yelp
Delicious, Kind, Handsome guys. This chicken set was different with others. I love this style.

Jeffrey J.

Yelp
Had the Hot Korean Chicken Sandwich, was blown away both by how massive it was and how tender and juicy the chicken was while being perfectly crispy fried. Some of the best Korean hot chicken I have had in LA.

Geenuh D.

Yelp
My chicken wings and fries were very flavorful and the service is quick and considerate. Although the shrimp toast were a bit too greasy. I received a complimentary order of rice cakes (forget the name of it) that was very good. I may order it the next time.
