In defense of this restaurant, we had to wait over an hour for our large Christmas Day order to be filled, due to one chef cooking and no-show workers. Finally some other workers came to help, so our large order was finally filled. To make things right, the chef LOADED our party trays, and the meal was delicious! All of us got stuffed, plus we took home extra trays of food. It ended up being a good deal, even though we waited!

Google
I’ve been eating at this restaurant for over 25 years & each time they’ve served excellent food, making special accommodation for our vegetarian requests, even making the à la carte items spicy. They now have vegetable rice noodles which are really delicious.

yanira R.

Google
ZERO STARS!! This was one of our favorites and today we recieved our order and deep down in the rice noodles there was a fly!! We threw the entire order away & none of us ate!! NEVER WILL WE RETURN!! STAY AWAY UNLESS YOU WANT FLIES AND WHO KNOWS WHAT ELSE IN YOUR FOOD!!!

Stephanie P.

Google
Haven't been here in a while. Went in today for dinner, and just by looking at the trays it was unappealing. The noodles changed from the yummy saucey brown noodles to yellow dry ones. The beef and broccoli had no flavor and not saucy at all. The eggroll was old and not crunchy. The place was bare. Only 2 other customers besides us. I miss the old China bistro. It was my #1 spot(only the Ming location) but now...I will never go back. I will go to Bamboo Cafe instead. They never disappoint me.

Angie M.

Google
This place used to be my favorite, I came here all the time during lunch for the Student Special because my school is nearby. Ever since they changed owners or employees the food is dry and they serve SO MUCH LESS. On top of that they don’t turn the A/C on in this 100 degree weather… I’m so sad that I have to find a new lunch spot.

Alicia V.

Google
Food was flavorless and dry, but good portion for the price, siracha was watery and vinegary. Location was clean and staff was nice

john F.

Google
Disappointing... I had to wait for my order, because the orange chicken was out. Sweet! The fresher, the better. Not in this case. The chicken and sauce both tasted burnt. The chow mein was also very tough. The noodles were very chewy. The servers were acting like they had a line going out the door, but only two people in line. After paying for my order and waiting, I was a bit hesitant to ask when I was going to get my order. Just needs better customer service and lighter tone. The plus side is that they did have great portions!

Jeff A.

Google
Employees were very friendly and courteous. Food looked fresh and smelled good. Every thing tasted good, it just lacked that "wow" factor. Restaurant looked clean and organized.

Yelp
It had been years since I had ventured into a china bistro. The last few experiences were just ok. Apparently, they are all independently owned and have a few different items. My buddy convinced us to give this one a whirl. This china bistro at the market place was crazy good. They PACK that plate. I really enjoy the half fried rice with their new vegetable noodle with orange chicken and terriyaki chicken. Crazy good, and enough food to last two meals. The unfortunate part was that it was so good, I decided to give the one on coffee a whirl and it was disappointing. Stick to the location at the marketplace. Friendly service. Good food.

Yelp
Their portions are generous and can't complain about the food. One thing I will note, I tried the coconut shrimp and it tasted too much like a sweet mayonnaise for me. I was disappointed because it seemed very popular but nope. Their siracha bottles are watered down and I was disappointed in that. I took my food home to use my own bottle. Otherwise, a good cheap Chinese option.

Yelp
I've been going to China Bistro as long as my memory goes back in my childhood. It might very well be the first fast-casual Chinese food spot I ever had. I've been hooked since day one. I snag something different every time, though my go-tos include their orange chicken, kung pao chicken, and coconut shrimp. The food is delicious and filling. Their portions are generous and their prices are affordable. Couldn't recommend them more for when you have that hankering only fast-casual Chinese food can cure. Staff is always kind and quick with the service. Restaurant is always clean and well maintained.

Yelp
Food is always great from this spot. i enjoy the sweet and sour chicken with half fried rice and half noodles. you do have to wait for the chicken to be cooked in the kitchen but to have a freshly made protein is always a plus! Overall, the establishment is clean, quick, and a decent helping of food every time.

Sarah G.

Yelp
Order a combo c with an extra small side of teriyaki chicken and eggrolls and cream cheese wontons. We got half fried rice/lo mein. The lo mein had zero flavor, tried to add teriyaki sauce on it just to give it some. They gave us a beef and green bean dish with only two pieces of meat in it, didn't tell us we would be waiting for the teriyaki chicken and had us waiting for 10 minutes. The eggrolls and wontons got cold from waiting, and the eggrolls honestly looked like the ones you can get a Costco that are frozen... tasted like it too. Overall, not great at all. Not for $40 plus tip.

Yelp
I concur with the other reviews that have mentioned that this place has gone downhill in recent months. Not sure what exactly happened, but not too long ago in the past I would have given this place ten stars because of how good their food was. Now, I only give it four stars because this plate was close to the level of quality they used to have. The last several visits, the plates have been much less good, and the portions they were giving over the last few months have been skimpy. But I digress...my favorite person who works here is the older Hispanic lady (sorry I don't know her name). She's always super friendly and kind, and she gives generous portions that I am used to from this place. The restaurant itself is kind of small, and parking can sometimes be hard to find, but usually I have no issues. The decor is minimalist but not bad. I usually order the plate I have pictured here. Sometimes I'll add a side of coconut shrimp, but again, the last few times I've gone before now have been borderline inedible. Overall, it's a great alternative to Panda Express, except when it's not.

Blanca A.

Yelp
I used to love this place but now I get why people have been saying it's gone downhill. I got orange chicken and rice noodles. The rice noodles were my favorite until today. Idk if they gave me old noodles, but they were so nasty. They were stale and dry. They were hard to eat so they just went to the trash. The orange chicken was nasty too. It tasted old too. Plus it took so long to get our food after placing an order on the phone. So sad.

Yelp
Absolutely love this to-go Chinese. And the portions are great! The Thai tea is yummy!

Yelp
I used to love China Bistro but something changed in a bad way? When I walked into the door the heat of the restaurant was very intense. No air moving at all? There were 2 people working one was helping a person ahead of me and the other worker walked over turned her back to me and sat there on her phone ? The food had no real flavor? Even with soy sauce it was bland ? It's sad because I would always make the trip to the market place because it was always fresh and good ? Now it looks like I will be looking for something else? Sorry but I was truly disappointed with everything, now it's just not good anymore.

Yelp
If there was a lower rating than one, I would be giving that. Went in tonight about 730 and ordered food for my wife and I. Got a combo B with all veggies and teriyaki chicken and barbecue pork. My wife had a small amount of rice and orange chicken in a bowl. The pork and teriyaki chicken was almost inedible. I ate some of it, but I didn't like it. The veggies were good. My wife's orange chicken was also old and hard to get her fork into. She gave up and threw it in the trash. We've been coming to this location since they opened and it has steadily gone downhill. I did speak with the server behind the counter and a person that looked like maybe he was managing the kitchen. I told him that they needed to throw those items out and make new for future customers. We won't be back!

Jesse H.

Yelp
The food here is good!!! The real problem is the lady serving the food. She doesn't treat everyone the same and she only gives you the sauce that she wants you to have. If you ask for something different, you get the stink face. It's not like she's paying for it. She works there. Give people what they want and check your attitude at the door. I never sat down to eat because the server mad it awkward. But, the setting is nice

Yelp
Food was made with love and attention. It was an unexpected and well received delight. I'll be bringing my family here. We love big portions and quality food anytime. Continue to impress always!

Yelp
I do not know how this place is still operating when it consistently put out bland boring products. Came once years ago and did not like it at all, the portion was small for the price and the taste factor was practically non existent. Forgot about it then Came back years later on a for a crutch craving of Chinese take out and was met with the same experience. Although it felt like my portion was a little better, it doesn't matter when what I ate lacked any flavor. I had to dump ssoy sauce just to taste some salt. I also ordered 3 sides and yet was given two. Sad really to see this place still take up real estate in a lovely plaza

Yelp
I came in during lunch , this place is quiet on a Sunday morning very relaxing . I stopped in before catching a movie . I had no wait time at all . The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The portions are great and it's more than enough for leftovers. The food is very tasty, I can't wait to try other things on the menu .

Yelp
I want this location to be in the rotation, but I just can't. Once-twice a year I'll go in. This week I went in for my annual fix & it was 40 min before closing, & there was slim pickings of food left and staff was looking like they wanted to go home. So I got what they had left. Then a party of 6 or 7 walk in, they start making food, then I'm sitting there watching them eat the fresh stuff while I'll eat dried out chicken, soggy beef & broccoli (which had now beef) & bottom of the barrel scraps. I feel they should have fresh food on deck at all times, it's the marketplace... people come in until closing time, so they should be ready at all times during open hours. See ya in November 2024. Posting this in hopes of changing things

Yelp
Food was excellent but one thing that sets them above the rest... I ordered online and have a back injury so wanted delivered. Hit pick up by mistake. Called the restaurant to fix it. The manager got on the phone and asked me to text him my address. I did and who do you suppose showed up at our door? The manager himself! Talk about stepping up and representing your establishment. Great food and great customer service and reasonable prices. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Aaron P.

Yelp
This place has amazing food, amazing service, and is in a great location. Definitely the move over Panda.

Yelp
Delicious Food, Always Fresh Awesome service (from the Hispanic ladies and a couple of the young adults) Don't call order ahead, you'll just waste your time; order in person. Love the Chow Mein, Hot & Sour Soup, Mushroom Chicken, Teriyaki Chicken, Jalapeño Chicken, Veggie and Chicken Eggrolls, and Fried Fish

Sunny F.

Yelp
It seems like they've upgraded the menu, the environment has become cleaner, and there are many more set meal options. The taste has also improved. This is now my favorite Chinese restaurant.

Yelp
Used to come here often, food was good and the staff was very attentive and friendly. The last two times I was there the lady that helped me was probably the worse customer service person I've had EVER at a restaurant. She was there both times. Older lady, yelling at everyone....staff and customers alike. Ordered the same food as usual that is ordered 100 times before and she either could not understand English....AT ALL, or just plain decided to be so negative. Right mid order I just told her never mind and left! I don't know how a business would keep a person like that employed when it was actually hurting the business. As I left she started yelling at the next person in line who also walked out! I know these reviews mean nothing to the owners, because why else would she still be there! I guarantee I'm not the only person having issues with her. After about a month I said lets try it one more time, only to walk in and see her actually putting a customer in his place...AGAIN!! Just turned around and left! Never again! This place has SO many negative reviews I wouldn't waste your time!! Go to the China Bistro on Coffee and Hageman area, which is owned by different people. ALWAYS courteous and food really good too.....

Mujde N.

Yelp
I got 2 teriyaki chicken bowl. They didn't have any taste chewy and really awful service was okey I didn't want to go back

Yelp
The food from China bistro is always good and very consistent, it's been the same for over 10 years at least. The orange chicken always comes highly recommended. Their chow mein is also very good it's always full of flavor. The fried rice on the other hand is always just a little bit dry but that could be just from sitting in the pan for a little bit too long. The one downside from this place is just the prices over the years it's always gotten a little bit more expensive I don't mind paying for quality when the quantity of sufficient but here you may leave a little bit hungry if you bring a big appetite for what you're paying.
google avatar

Yelp
China Bistro is a solid 4 stars for fast food Chinese flavor. They're consistently good and the portions are what the people apparently like. The employees are nice and selection is decent.

Mayada B.

Yelp
I love this restaurant the staff is very friendly and very nice the food is always very fresh and excellent prices it's very reasonable for the amount of food you get no where else but china bistro in the market place in bakersfield ca. I love you guys keep up the great work

Yelp
Always loved this place and its always a good place to get some solid Chinese take-out. My favorite dishes are: Orange chicken: Lightly crisp and tossed in a nice sweet and savory glaze. Coconut shrimp: Lightly battered shrimp with a creamy coconut sauce. Broccoli beef: Tender beef with fresh crunchy broccoli Egg drop soup: Flavorful and always steaming hot. Vegetables aren't too inviting but nonetheless it's warm and tasty. Love the huge portions. Half fried rice and half chow mein a must!! Great for family meals or a quick food option.

Lori F.

Yelp
I would give negative stars if that were an option. I will no longer be going back. We have eaten here for years on and off. This is the 2nd time placing an online order. This time we showed up at the appointed time and were told our order was not ready yet. The person then proceeded to fill the orders of everyone in line until the food ran out. My husband then went and inquired again and she told him they had been busy. Once the food was refilled again, she proceeded to fill everyone else's order and not ours. By now we have been there 1/2 hour waiting. A man from the kitchen had come in front to help and he finally filled our order. I asked about the egg rolls in the order and he then included them otherwise we would have left without them, I will be asking the credit card for a refund of the tip. I'm not leaving one for that kind of service. The food was honestly the worst we've had there which shows how understaffed they were and the restaurant was dirty. Not going to be returning. 40 minutes past when we were to get our food. I'm sorry but I could have driven to a better place by then.
google avatar

Silvia C.

Yelp
My husband and I had lunch at this Ming location, we been there before and never had that extra cost and I know food has gone up so prices go up for the consumer, which I get it...so I think that one they took our order they should of said if you order any seafood items we charge an extra $1.50 per item ordered, if they would of told me We would have not ordered any seafood, my husband ordered pepper chicken w/ veggies and spicy fish he said veggies tasted old didn't look fresh , we arrived home and my husband has an upset stomach. We will never go back.
google avatar

Ramiro V.

Yelp
So I'm not sure if it's just me or is this place a hit and miss? There are times that I come here and the food is really good and there are other times that it is not good. Knowing I'm taking a chance every time I eat here, it's like a roller coaster ride every time I take that first bite. Lol. So I have to give it 3 stars and nothing more. If you eat here hopefully you catch them on a good day.
google avatar

Carri F.

Yelp
The ladies working the counter were super sweet. The food was okay . And they make boba.
google avatar

Ry M.

Yelp
So good! Made quickly and the people are nice. We had Combo A, Fr/Cm/Sr Bowl, Potstickers, Cream Cheese Wonton, and Boba Thai Tea. The vibe was nice, quiet, and clean. Would recommend.

Lucy S.

Yelp
COCKROACH in my food!!! DO NOT EAT HERE DISGUSTING. The manager would not refund me my money, only offered to replace my food like if I'd be eating there again.

M P.

Yelp
The food has really improved here lately. They have changed some dishes and the chefs are really killing it. We tried the black pepper chicken and it was amazing (they have had this before but this seemed like a new recipe). We also had the spicy fish, their "new" orange chicken and the bbq pork. All were very good the pork was a little dry but we did pick up dinner a little late so had we gone earlier I'm sure it would have been fine. I'm giving this 5 stars not because it's the best Chinese food in town, but it is the best in the fast food Chinese category.
google avatar

PatrickJ T.

Yelp
Memories....back in the day China Bistro was my go to fast food Chinese restaurant. Fast forward to today. I do not come here too often anymore. Just not convenient for me anymore. Recently, though, I got the opportunity to drop by. Got some takeout for the family. Everything in their food warmers looked full and fresh. Always nice to see cause who wants to eat old food that's been in the warmer too long. Anyways all the entrees I brought back were finished. Food was all tasty, but portions were smaller than I usually receive from the competition for similar tasting food. I'm sure I'd return if I was hungry and in the neighborhood.

Yelp
I was 15 years old when I first discovered this place, and I am now 37. For the most part, I have lived in Bakersfield. I know taste buds change over time, but the taste and the quality of this place have gone down so bad on the bright side they do offer free samples but the server struggled to find a shrimp that was micro size for my daughter. The jalapeño chicken was something I hadn't tried it before, and it was good, so I decided to try it to go. The bbq pork was so dry and well overcooked, and the coconut shrimp I asked to go was undercooked. You taste the batter, and let me tell you, uncooked coconut shrimp batter taste awful. The chowmein was so oily, it looks great under the glass, but once you're home and you start eating, you realize it's so thin and oily. The place was dead. No one was eating inside or outside, making my transaction go by super fast. It was clean but with fewer tables than I remember. I will always remember how great this place USED TO BE, but unfortunately, I will not be returning to this establishment. Please note that this review can not be taken out on the cooks since the cooks are trained by the owners, and the server was also taught to serve the portion you get. Complete rip-off portions compared to price and quality of food. P.s. The egg rolls 2 for 2.80 are also bad, but the thing that takes the cake on the worst thing is the sweet and sour sauce, which tastes like vinegar.

Amy W.

Yelp
I've recently moved here to Bakersfield and trying out a lot of asian cuisine nearby. In my opinion, this is by far the best for chinese fast food around here. I've been here a couple times already and the food here is BOMBBB!!! It's so good! The customer service here is also great! The ladies in the front has always been approachable and since I've been here a few times, they remembered me! The environment is very clean and spacious. It does get busy during rush hour though, which is understandable, but the wait time is usually not bad. I would definitely come back!
google avatar

Paulett W.

Yelp
Great food, tasty, and lots of it. It's my go-to takeout food. Servers are nice and courteous.
google avatar

Jess V. C.

Yelp
Do not sleep on this establishment! Local business, Yummy comfort food when you are craving Chinese! There is a ton of options, I regret not ordering soup and egg rolls. This wasn't my first time eating from there, but more imperative due to COVID-19
google avatar

Penny C.

Yelp
Been going to the China Bistro on Coffee Rd. For years. Their food has always been very tasty and the portions are huge. Their prices are reasonable, you absolutely get your money's worth. Service is good and I would say ambiance is average. Don't believe they would disappoint.

Christine G.

Yelp
Never ever will i go too this tasteless place again bland bland food no variety either yuck save your money and time .
google avatar

Maricel P.

Yelp
China Bistro is the competition for the "other guys" and I have my pros and cons with food here versus the other place and I happen to like China Bistro's orange chicken versus the other guys. Don't get me wrong, they are neck and neck and I go back and forth w the competition, but for some reason that orange chicken has me coming back. I have been here about a dozen of times now and I read some of the other reviews, but I have never had a bad experience here. The food is cheap, it's quick and the chicken is always crispy. You can't expect this fast food place to be top notch as it is a fast food restaurant. Food never tastes bland and is always flavorful. I have not tasted everything on their menu, but everything I have tried has all been good. I like the location and I love that there are tables and chairs to eat outside on a really nice day. Cleanliness is not always the best inside, but it's a high volume traffic during lunch time so you can expect there are a lot of people coming in and out, I've eaten here on slow days also and the restrooms were clean as well as the seating inside.

Tyanna P.

Yelp
Really good portion sizes with amazing tasting food, fast and polite service. Many choice to pick from!! Definitely try the pineapple chicken so good!!
google avatar

Charlotte M.

Yelp
This use to be one of my favorite spots. The lady's are really rude they have messed up my order and the food just seems to be not as good anymore. I will not be back after this. Really disappointed.
google avatar

Helen B.

Yelp
Minute Rice really? Orange Chicken and Peppered Beet have no flavor . Worst Chinese fast food delivery
google avatar

Robyn L.

Yelp
Ordered through the yelp app and the restaurant even called to confirm and make sure when I was getting there so the food would be nice and hot. The employees are very friendly and the food is great.

Rony B.

Yelp
Came here for the first time with work friends and it was really good! Service was good and food was delicious! Prices are pretty reasonable as well. Definitely coming back with the family!
google avatar

Norma G.

Yelp
This place is good, came here while we were passing by Bakersfield. We were not disappointed! Everything was fresh. The orange chicken had a slight crispy texture to it and was not soggy. The broccoli was cooked perfectly and the beef was very tender. Everything was flavorful.
google avatar

Rodney B.

Yelp
This location has a new owner which was the best thing that ever happened to this restaurant. The food is decent but I totally believe it depends on what you order. If you order from the trays its eat at your own risk with when the food was actually cooked. You can older from their menu which has a lot more of a selection to choose from and they make that food to order. The woman that work up front are very kind. They weren't just trying to get you in and out the door. We had all of our kids with us and they stopped and talked top all of our kids which I thought was very nice. At this location there are a lot of food choices but for something quick and easy this place is a wonderful choice, especially if you are going to eat before a movie since it is right next door to the theater. We will be coming to this location again especially since my kids love Chinese food and it isn't going to cost you an arm anda leg.
google avatar

Ana S.

Yelp
The customer service is always spot on, especially kind during Covid-19. The food portion is more than you pay for and quick as heck. I wanted a quick place to pick up some delicious Hot and Sour Soup and China Bistro never disappoints. I've had the family meal several times and my boys eat it up (even the vegetables). Nothing better than soup on a cold evening, especially when you don't have to cook it. See you soon Cindy!

Mark K.

Yelp
Service was better and new items are good. Back to being my fav cheap Chinese place in town.
