The 32 Essential St. Louis Restaurants

"The big box store-sized Pan-Asian Supermarket, right next to the Bob’s Discount Furniture, is the largest international grocery store in Missouri. You might assume the crown jewel of the market is the impressive fish department or the shiny new bubble tea bar, but it’s actually the small dining area labeled China Bistro. The business looks similar to a Singaporean hawker stall, but the utilitarian kitchen cranks out an astounding amount of regional Chinese dishes, as well as Vietnamese pho. The smoky, charred edges of chow fun noodles indicate a masterful control of the blistering hot wok. You can smell the crimson-hued mapo tofu two tables away, its sauce aromatic with floral and citrus notes. And the tender dan dan egg noodles satisfy with a low, humming heat and perfect springy texture." - Holly Fann

If you go to China Bistro you will understand the lines in my pictures. For an incredibly reasonable price, you can enjoy some of the most authentic home-style Chinese cuisine in the area. I enjoyed pig feet (猪脚饭)for the first time and will certainly be coming back to try to rest of their menu. The meat is cooked perfectly tender.

The food is fantastic as is the service! We go here repeatedly and are never disappointed. Dined in multiple times as well as ordered take out multiple times for both lunch and dinner. The prices are very reasonable considering how delicious and fresh the food is.

Google
Delicious and authentic. The #1, beef pho, is my favorite. The stir-fried rice is also really good and crisp and browned just right. This is not your typical Chinese-American restaurant but the food is fantastic and made to order. Be aware they close typically from 3p-3:30p every day for staff lunch.

It’s like a restaurant one typically finds in SE Asia…crowded, noisy & questionable cleanliness. Ordered two Seafood Pho medium bowls for $9.99. It was ok for me. I thought it was priced too high. The food came out very hot and quick. I’ll probably come back to try other dishes.

Nestled inside of Pan-Asia you cannot miss it as you walk into the grocery store. No-frills step to the counter and order your food. You will be pointed to a table. Sit down, and wait for your order which is usually 5-15 minutes from the kitchen, and the kitchen staff bring you your order. Food is hot and delicious! The dishes I've tried: #7 Singapore sweet Rice noodles . - a little greasy, but the aroma of he curry mixed with ingredients is well balanced out with the rice noodle. #10 Young Chow Fried Rice. - Cantonese fried rice, cannot go wrong with this as doesn't use a lot, if any, soy sauce and you get a variety of ingredients with the rice. #18 Dan Dan Noodles. - I felt this was more of a ja ang (black bean sauce) with marinated cubed pork. It was a bit salty, but still tasty. #42 Sliced beef in hot chili oil. If you want something to make you sweat a little, go for it! Finally - don't forget the BBQ! Their roast duck is fresh and season just right - you don't need the sauce. The BBQ pork - I usually get a pound every visit. Excellent cut of lean-to-fat ratio and fresh. Charred edges, and their seasoning is not overpowering or overly salty. The only caveat is that everything aside from being served your meal is - self service. containers and condiments are to the right almost around the corner. Take-out containers are available if you don't finish your meal. Usually needed their portions are generous. I marked my service as a "3" due to a couple of different times, my order was missing or incorrect. Oh - and if you need a desert after your meal, you can stop by the boba tea stand right next to the Bistro for refreshments or a sweet drink.

I was very skeptical about eating here, but finally pushed past my fears of gastrointestinal upset and did it. I will say their Pho is probably the best I’ve had and I haven’t had a bad dish. Everything is fresh and excellent! It’s become a regular affair.

We have been here many times. It is located inside of Pan Asia, our favorite store in town and in our opinion it puts out some of the very best Asian food in St. Louis. Mostly Chinese but with pho too. Start with sweet BBQ pork and crispy roasted ducks hanging there and I am hooked (great for take out, whole or half). But the other dishes this bistro turns out are bursting with flavor and well priced. We usually eat there but they do a lot of take out. Beef cumin is our favorite dish with seasoned dry beef pieces on a bed of cilantro. Tres bon! Also Ma Po Tofu (silken tofu cubes in a pork or seafood sauce), beef chow fun and the best fried rice I can find in town (with bits of that sweet BBQ pork if you choose that one, sprouts and more). Garlic eggplant is very special too (spicy but sweet at the same time). Most (but not all for sure) dishes are on the spicy Szechuan side of things but not overdone at all. There are many soup and pho bowls, including one I love with tender melt in your mouth short ribs! Many different kinds of noodles as well. Dan Dan Noodles is a fav with its Szechuan peppercorns based sauce, and hard to find these days but addicting! We also like the egg noodles which are those thin noodles served at dim sum places, onions, sprouts and choice of protein. The chow fun noodles are locally made and great. Anything else they need is right there in the store and very fresh. This is not a fancy place but feels like some sort of street cafe as you sit and watch the world of shoppers go by. Lots of dishes we havent tried yet so we will continue to come here all the time. Very well priced. Fast service. Give them a try and shop with them after your meal! Best price on lobsters in town in this international bazaar with a huge seafood department. This is the real deal all around.

Google
This place is located inside Pan Asia. I usually ate Pho here when I went grocery shopping at Pan Asia. Food came out pretty quickly. Pho broth is pretty good. Price is fair, good portion. I loved that the veggies served with Pho had been always fresh which made a huge difference compared to other places. I also liked their beef chow fun a lot. I had their Pork and egg bun ( banh bao ) once, but I didn’t like it - the bun was soft but filling was not fresh and too little.

Yelp
Superb! Fantastic! A smash hit! Excellent! Exceptional! Outstanding! Marvelous! Awesome! Spectacular! Remarkable! We've been to Pan Asia quite a few times and have always wondered about China Bistro. A few months ago we went right before closing, I got duck and...rice, I believe. I forgot what my wife had ordered. But we brought the food home and it was practically inedible. The duck was so dry it was like jerky. I was very disappointed. Fast forward to last night, i thought hell, why not, I'm going to give it another go. So glad I did! I grabbed the Young Chow Fried Rice and man was it such a change. I hate to say it but this could possibly be the best fried rice I've ever had. The pork was cooked perfectly, great texture, it added amazing flavour to the dish. The shrimp were cooked perfectly. No added soy sauce was needed. I was totally surprised because when I got home with the rice and opened it up it first appeared anemic. I will definitely be going back to try other dishes that have been raved about in other reviews here on Yelp!

Yelp
One of the best Pho broth I've ever had in the U.S. I have very good fried rice. They also have roast pork and duck.

Yelp
I went there on a Wednesday. This restaurant is inside Pan Asia supermarket next to academy sports. Food: I ordered there house special stir fried egg noodles #17 with chicken for to go. You can pay in the counter itself and I got my food in less than 10 minutes. Not spicy , my 7 year old liked it. Comparing to other Chinese restaurants. I have to admit the noodle is really delicious. Portion is enough for two servings. There are tables to sit and eat as well. Roughy 20 people. I will definitely go there again if I've a craving for noodles.

Yelp
BBQ pork, cumin beef and Singapore noodles are definitely worth trying. Service is fast, makes for a great quick lunch and nice dinner carry-out! Bonus that you can grab Asian groceries while you're there!

Yelp
Hidden inside the Asian market on Manchester, it's a place that you can't see off the road. True hidden gem. This isn't really a restaurant. I'd describe it more as a food stand. This isn't a place you're going to get an egg roll and sesame chicken. China Bistro serves AUTHENTIC Chinese food You see the red whole ducks hanging upside down (delicious). When you order the duck, a man with a giant meat cleaver chops it up with authority and packs it up for you, head, beak and all. I recommend the beef chow fun and the curry street noodles. If you insist on eating there, the do have a couple tables. Don't forget, it's INSIDE the grocery store.

Yelp
Great authentic dishes and a little hidden gem. Love that they are open when other restaurants are generally closed

Yelp
I've reviewed China Bistro before within Pan-Asia's Yelp page, but I thought it was about time I reviewed it on its own page. I come here at least once a week and even more frequently when my family visits and is craving authentic Chinese food. I have probably tried 70% of the menu but we almost always order the same entrees because they are tried and true and consistently tasty. My favorites: #16 Beef chow fun. It's sold out a few times when I ordered it too late in the day because it's just THAT good and authentic. Its flavor cannot be beat by any other chow fun I've tried in St. Louis. #27. Fish fillet in wine sauce: tender fish coated in velvety sauce and wood ear mushroom. This comes with rice. -tofu with seafood, also comes with rice. -roast duck and Chinese BBQ pork. You can order by 1/2 pound or whole pound, or you can order it with rice as an entree, -Taiwan style stir-fried rice noodles--the thin rice noodles with shrimp, pork, veggies. -any of the pho noodle soups. Tip on the pho--it tastes best in the restaurant instead of carrying out because the beef is raw and needs to be cooked in the hot pho broth. You could reheat the soup on the stove and put the beef in if you do carry-out. -Jian Dui--these are technically next to restaurant in the ready-made food section, but they are worth mentioning because they make them fresh in the restaurant and they are SO good when they come out piping hot. They're chewy fried sesame seed balls with red bean paste filling. If you like spicy food, the spicy seafood thick noodle soup is similar to the Korean seafood noodle soup jjamppong. I do wish that it was easier to call ahead and order for carry-out. Sometimes I call the phone number listed and I can't get anyone to pick up. It's easier to order in person, get your groceries, and come back in 10 minutes to pick up your food.

Yelp
#19 and combination #17 pictured. Food was good and service was fast. The servings were large and each meal was enough to feed two people or have leftovers for the next day. My girlfriend said these were her favorite noodles of all of the other noodles places she'd been.

Yelp
Located inside Pan Asia- We come here at least once a week. Authentic Chinese food and they are so fast. Sometimes there are very long lines however they cook so fast, you really won't be waiting too long. We've tried many of their menu items and today we went for a smorgasbord of goodness: -combination fried rice. You can add more meat for extra $ -pho with sliced beef -1/2 lb of bbq pork -spicy pork (not on the main menu) -bamboo beef (it's not on the main menu, it's written off to the side!) If you want authentic Chinese buns they make them fresh every morning. Think individually wrapped pineapple buns, bbq pork, egg custard, among others.

Yelp
Fantastic little cafe inside Pan Asia supermarket never disappoints. They have reopened and have new hours until 7 pm most nights. My favorite here will always be Beef Chow Fun with their delicious homemade chewy wide noodles. A taste explosion with savory tender beef steak slices, onion, green onion, and bean sprouts in a delicious simple soy sauce. I also got a delicious egg and ham pan bread(a sweet dough) breakfast sandwich. Super tasty and reasonable prices for huge portions. Delish. Someday I want to try their Peking duck, too.

Yelp
Between the Bistro and Corner 17, there is no other reason to grab Chinese Food from anywhere else in the St. Louis region. We definitely have our go to items (cumin lamb, Singapore noodles and bbq pork). As we have found though, you can't go wrong. Also you can kill two birds with one stone as the Bistro is located within the Pan Asia Market, so we can also get out shopping in and get great food. We live pretty far out in Defiance, so having both opportunities in one spot is great!

Yelp
I tried to give their special Eggplant with seafood another chance, but this time it was extremely oversalted - as if the cook dropped a cup of salt in it - and the spiciness didn't even bother me as much this time. We also ordered Beef Chow fun. It was for dine in, and I got the eggplant on a plate. After over 10 min with no Chow fun, I went up to ask -- the chef had packed it to go so it was sitting there waiting for pickup! This happened to us the previous time we ate there -- my noodles were packed to go while my husband's soup was brought out for dine it. So odd!

Yelp
We love all of the food here. Alway try something new. Today Tajwan Style Stir-Fried Rice Noddles & Beef Pho. So good and lots of flavors. We love the Bistro. We have tried many items and love them all. A little hidden gem.

Yelp
Food was cold. No red chilli flake stuff. And indian staff at Chinese restaurant. Confusing

Yelp
This place is inside of a grocery store called Panasia. There is seating to dine in, or you can order it to go. I've been coming here for years, and the service is always fast so if you see a long line don't worry. And trust me, it's worth the wait. My son and I always order the large noodle bowl with extra noodles. We have gotten the bowl with pork belly, and also the bbq pork. Both are phenomenal. Point blank period. And I love to stop by after I've already shopped and fill up before I leave. And it's fun to people watch. Please remember to tip if you can. They also sell sushi, roast duck, and other great dishes like fried rice. Plenty more on the menu. And you can walk 10ft over and get some Boba milk tea .
google avatar

Yelp
This place never disappoints. Fast service, but they do deliver one by one as they finish cooking so some in your party may finish their food WAY before others. Very busy on weekends.

Yelp
This small restaurant located in the Pan-Asian Market has excellent food for reasonable prices. The Pho broth is well seasoned and beefy. The add ins are super fresh so the cilantro and basil add aroma and taste instantly when added to the broth. Caution, the Jalapeños do the same and add heat too. Yum! We Have tried the Singapore noodles, Chow Fun and Fried Rice and they are tasty as well. The Firecracker Green beans are crunchy, spicy, porky deliciousness. Fast and easy even when busy.

Yelp
Easily one of the best spots in town for Asian food! Try to go back anytime I'm in the area. Quick, and fairly priced
google avatar

Yelp
Unassuming counter inside Pan-Asian Supermarket, but pretty decent and as authentic as it seems to get for this non-East Asian. Portions were huge for the fried rice and chow fun orders. My beef chow fun noodles had a nice smokiness to them, and the sauce was really savory. Beef fried rice was good, pretty much like what you get from the decent take out Chinese restaurants. I would have liked the beef to be a little crispier, though. Roast duck with white rice dish had very good roast duck. The duck had a rich, pleasant, tenderness to it and wasn't greasy as I've unfortunately had elsewhere. Bok choy came with it and worked well with the white rice to complement the duck's richness.

Yelp
China Bistro is located inside Pan Asia. Wow one thing to note here is the portion to price is incredible here. If you can eat a lot; I would definitely recommend this place. Prices are not very expensive but you get a bowl of noodle soup that is hugeeeeee. Things tasted very good too. Dishes that stood out for us: Pho! Excellent! ask for a dollar extra meat or whatever and they really load it up! Young Chow Fried Rice! Awesome Fried Rice Cumin Beef! Beef Noodle soups were definitely solid and great too.

Yelp
Hidden (well, maybe not so hidden any longer) gem in West County. I consider myself a pho connessuier and there seafood version is some of the best I've had. It's almost always busy and there'll be a line, but it moves quickly. We usually call in our order for pickup but I wouldn't mind dining in given the chance.

Kd B.

Yelp
They might be the best Asian restaurant in west county. The beef pho is one of my favorite meals ever. The portions are large and the flavor is worth going into the store to get. My other favorites are the eggplant in garlic sauce, stir fried bok Choy and the fish filet in wine sauce. My only complaint is that they stopped letting grub hub deliver.
google avatar

Yelp
I wouldn't expect a place called China Bistro to have great traditional Chinese food, but here we are. Loved the Yangzhou fried rice and the dan dan mian. Food doesn't take long to get after ordering.
google avatar

Yelp
grocery & lunch! pro-tip order lunch before shopping w family it tends to get busy for mealtime, especially lunch. bbq pork by the pound, request it sliced up... you may consume on the ride home, so get 2 separate orders. other favorites include #34 Cumin Beef, #33 Fire-Cracker green bean w pork, and #18 dan Dan Noodle. #BradyEats

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in the city is hidden in an unassuming grocery store! I think they are best known for their Singaporean noodles (better than corner 17's!) but everything I've tried there has been excellent. Portions are really generous and they have food ready lightning fast. I love to eat in for lunch and then do my grocery shopping after!
google avatar

Michelle A.

Yelp
THE BEST stir fried egg noodles in all of St. Louis! I highly recommend you seek this place out if you're looking for excellent food!

Natalia H.

Yelp
Waited 10 min on the phone wanting to know if they do delivery or not. Not the best customer service.

Karen P.

Yelp
Prices are affordable and portions are generous! However, the food wasn't too impressive. We ordered the beef stew thick noodle soup, the Beijing signature noodle, and the dan dan mian. I think a big issue for me for all three noodle dishes was that I wasn't a big fan of the noodles themselves. They just had a very flat texture, and they lacked bounce/chew? It's hard to describe! #20. Beef stew thick noodle soup was a pretty standard beef noodle soup. The beef itself was quite tasty, but the soup was rather bland. This was my least favorite dish. #19. Beijing signature noodles, aka zha jiang mian, was the best of the three dishes, but overall not worth returning to get. The name of the dish on the English menu is rather unrevealing, but it's essentially a meat, veggie and bean paste mix. I was a bit disappointed at first, only because the picture on the menu looked like jajangmyeon, which is the Korean equivalent of these bean paste noodles. Those are thicker, saucier and sweeter than the Chinese version, which can be less saucy and the taste of bean paste is usually stronger. This dish definitely could have used more sauce, since the sauce to noodle ratio was a rather low. #18. Dan dan mian. The spice did overwhelm the other flavors of the sauce though. I've had better!

Yelp
Brought my 89-year-old mom to try this hidden restaurant, located INSIDE a large grocery store (Pan-Asian Market) and not advertised. It's on the right, near and beyond the register area. Many tables for 4, very close together, which we thought was odd since the store requires masks--no exceptions-- except while eating. They have a limited but great selection of traditional Vietnamese and only a few Chinese dishes, which belies the name, but we came for Vietnamese, so we were happy. Order at the counter (they do a big takeout business, too), sit and be served. Pay at time of ordering. Get your own utensils, napkins, sauces before sitting. Quick service (at 11 AM...got a lot busier by 11:30, and several were waiting to pick up as we left). My mom wanted the crispy fried egg noodles with shrimp (diners have choices among 4 proteins or mixed) that she grew to love (at the defunct Kim Son in U City), and the description (#15) seemed to be that, but it wasn't. She did like it, however, and the portion was so large that we took home enough for her to add more fish and get 3-4 more meals, totaling 5 for her tiny appetite, for under $12! As a beef pho fan and connoisseur since having had many hundreds of bowls in the CA Bay Area, in St. Louis Seattle, Los Angeles, and elsewhere since 2002, I ordered the sliced beef #1), large, with extra basil (disappointed that they charged $1 for that extra...costs about 10 cents...). Ate my fill and brought home enough for 1 more meal (added some shiitake mushrooms during reheating, with even more fresh basil and cilantro), also for under $12. It was delicious both times, with plenty of flavor, beef, noodles and broth. We'll be back. Mom wants to try the duck.

Yelp
I am not as pleased with this place as i was when it first opened. The portions were never generous, but are now smaller, prices have gone up, and the quality has gone down. On our most recent visit the Singapore Mai Fun was unexceptional and gritty from the curry powder. I am pretty sure it wasn't made to order because it was brought out within a minute of paying for it at the register. The spicy eggplant with seafood was slathered in a blunt, one dimensional sauce the consistency of ketchup. The "seafood" consisted of the same small shrimp as the mai fun, and a few, nearly undetectable pieces of squid smaller than a dime. Surimi, an inexpensive, processed food made from fish paste, was the most abundant ingredient. And as if that wasn't bad enough, the eggplant hadn't been cooked enough. The bill for these two marginal dishes was $28, which may not seem too bad, but lets not forget you're eating in the middle of a grocery store with zero ambiance. China Bistro is okay for a quick soup or a noodle dish. But for a more involved meal one is better off driving the extra distance to U City. Our visits to Cate Zone provide a far more pleasurable experience.

Yelp
ok, BEST CHINESE FOOD IN ST. LOUIS. simple, that's it. By all means, I would love to hear if someone has a recommendation that is as good, or better. I would love to be informed of where I can find a spot to eat Chinese food (or Asian Cuisine for that matter), Nearly as Good, As Good, or Even Better. Their BBQ Pork - the closest amazing flavor's to the Char Siu BBQ pork that I have enjoyed in Hawaii Threw down the challenge, and I hope I can be proven wrong. Being informed of a new place to visit would be an absolute treat. -Their BBQ Pork ... Amazing. Best in St. Louis - no one comes close -Their Singapore Noodles - Wonderful. Others may come close, but this place has my favorite. -Their Pork Fried Rice - Incredible - My Opinion, because it is made with the best BBQ Pork you will find in St. Louis -Their Dan Dan Noodles - not for the faint of heart, alot of heat (and I am the faint of heart) I enjoyed it, but %#$! it was hot to me (maybe not others, but it was very hot for me) they probably have a host of more amazing dishes, but its such a treat for me to go there, I do not go too far off the road map of dishes I am familiar with again. Yelp
these guys have been my favorite part of Pan-Asia ever since the grocery store opened. Great Asian bakery selection from day one. Made me a chicken feet in wine sauce addict! Awesome BBQ pork, duck, and breads and a very balanced fu qi fei pian seasoning for their build your own option. I almost always get something when I go grocery shopping, and with the expansion my wish for a dining option inside has been granted! Now I also almost always choose to go shopping here so I can eat inside. Note: the hours are not the same as the store but I can't remember what cuz it kept changing for a while. Right now they take a break around 230-330? And close at 730p before the store does. The selection on the dine in side is pared down, but that means all the foods come quickly. I love all the dry noodle options except the Dan Dan noodle (way overboard on the numbing). The pho was a miss - very bland broth. I usually don't order fried rice so I don't know about those. The few other non rice/noodle are ok, kind of leans toward Chinese-American but taste good - I like the garlic pork (yu xiang rou si). Usually I go for beef chow fun or Beijing style zha jiang mian, but the Taiwan style rice noodle stir fry is a new favorite. The only knock I have is that ever since they expanded they haven't been 100% knocking it out of the park every time like they were before. A few times, my bbq pork wasn't as seasoned, my duck was a little dry another time, my spicy chicken a little less fragrant, etc. But they seem to be working out the kinks more because it's less and less so the case and I'm hopeful. Don't be disappointed if your first visit isn't amazing and keep supporting this small local business trying to figure things out! I pretty much don't go anywhere else for a quick Chinese meal or groceries anymore because they make it so convenient for me!

Bob R.

Yelp
The family has been there several times now and the food is great! Generous portions for a real reasonable price. You come for the food not the ambience...just a counter to order and some tables in a supermarket...but it is fast and the staff is wonderful! Great spicy options for the brave! (Sliced Beef in Hot Chili Oil for one of the hottest! Stir Fried Pork with Chili Pepper a little less spicy start here if you are a bit less sure of your tolerance.) I can't wait to come back and work through the whole menu. Even wonderful options for vegetarians...(Eggplant with Bean Sauce)

Yelp
Food was amazing and we're already planning out what we'll be eating next! We read about this hidden gem and couldn't wait to try it, and we're glad we did. It sits inside of Pan-Asia grocery store. I personally have not eaten Chinese food in this area because it all seems to be the same "Americanized" version but this place is different! Plenty of seating available and when we ordered at the counter the guy was very helpful with suggestions. Food came out quick and when I saw this big bowl of beef soup my initial response was "Omg that looks delicious!" which the guy replied "I know." lol. The other dish we ordered was #19 a thick noodle stir fry of some kind, also very tasty! I forgot to take a picture as we were super excited to dig into the soup. Prices were cheap in our opinion - $9.99 for both dishes and the portion sizes were generous! We couldn't finish and we both have hearty appetites. Hope you give it a try and post your pics so we know what to get next time! :)

Yelp
My first visit definitely won't be my last. As other reviewers have stated, this "restaurant" is a small counter inside the Pan-Asia supermarket at Manchester and 141 (next to Academy). The only reason I knew it was there was because I was searching for Ramen and Ramen Tei is closed on Tuesdays, so I was searching Yelp and Google for a replacement for my noodle fix. I have never been in the supermarket and I really wanted to explore while waiting for my food. We arrived at about 6 and the sign posted said they closed at 7 (different from Yelp that says 6:30). We were a little cautious with our first order and ordered the #9 plain fried rice with beef and #17 Stir fried Egg noodles for the kids, and I ordered the #20 Beef Stew thick noodle soup. The ordering process was pretty simple and I was asked to order by number, although be prepared that they do run out of things. I tried to order the #16 beef chow fun but they were out, and diners after me were told that they ran out of fried rice, white rice, and some other items as we got closer to closing time. The operation is not super slick, but you are getting good food from good people so be kind and be patient. My food took a full 44 minutes from order to walking out, but I think part of the reason for the long wait is that they get very confused about who ordered what because they don't write order numbers or what the food is on the containers. I think I saw my food walk out a couple of times with people who ordered after me, lol! I think next time I may dine in becasue I think priority is given to dine-in orders and the dishes get less "lost" because they are in real dishes instead of stacked together in anonymous styrofoam and are brought to the table as soon as they are made. When we got home, we dug in and the food was very delicious and certainly worth a little wait. The beef in the fried rice was lean and good quality and the rice was delicious (heavy on the bean sprouts which my daughter didn't love but were easily picked out). The Stir fried egg noodles were a very thin noodle with big chunks of fluffy scrambled egg, plus some onion, carrot, and maybe bean sprouts. They were very plain but great for kids and easy to dress up with condiments. Also, when I say "plain", it still had better flavor than most noodles I have gotten at other places that just taste like soy sauce. My beef stew was outstanding! It had a very rich, dark broth that had a tiny bit of spiciness and I think was stewed with onion and mushroom, with a nice sheen that made me feel like it had been made with real beef with real fat that seeped into the broth. I got a huge quart container full of that delicious broth and a huge clamshell full of fat noodles, with a small amount of bok choi, carrot, and some spring onion. Not a lot of veg but a massive amount of food. Put together, the broth and the noodles were perfection and I loved every bite! Such an amazing soup and I am definitely getting it next time I am sick because I think it would cure me immediately! I can't wait to go back and try more things! Everything I saw looked so delicious. Maybe I'll call ahead next time or try to eat in.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious, authentic and fresh Chinese food. You wouldn't expect food of this quality in a restaurant that's inside of a supermarket, but you'd be pleasantly surprised. The menu offers many choices, so you're bound to find a dish you'll like. Great options for spice lovers and people who avoid spice.

Yelp
could use some more training on customer service, the same goes to the boba as well. be a bit more patient with customer, and dont slam the drink on the counter to indicate the boba is ready.

Yelp
I've eaten at China Bistro twice now. It's the food counter inside the Pan-Asia Supermarket. On my first visit I ordered dandan noodles. The portion was huge but I took about 4 bites of these and I couldn't eat anymore. The mala (spicy and numbing Chinese sauce) was overwhelming! I was uncomfortable and my lips were simultaneously numb and on fire! I ignored the lady when she said "very spicy" and said to myself, of course dandan noodles will be spicy. Too much for me! On my second visit I ordered #7 Singapore Rice Noodles. This is typically called Singapore chow mei fun. It's a thin rice noodle with curry, egg, shrimp, and pork. This was delicious and a large portion! The food is great here, the prices are extremely reasonable (all around $10 per dish), and the portions are very generous. Great place to eat before you shop the market. I'm looking forward to working my way through this menu! I will be back!

Yelp
China Bistro 圣村小馆 is a small new restaurant that opened inside of the Pan-Asia grocery store. So far we have only tried their Dan Dan noodles, but the flavor was very authentic - numbing and spicy with a wonderfully complex flavor. I really want to try their Pickled Veggie with Fish Fillet Soup and their Ma Po Tofu.

Yelp
Best Chinese restaurant in the county hands down. All of their dishes are individually made to order with fresh ingredients. A lot of places churn out entrees with sauces that all sort of taste the same. Flavors here are very bold and distinct. Customer service is terrific as well. Friendly, accommodating and extremely fast. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Awesome small restaurant in the middle of Pan-Asia Supermarket. BBQ pork (char siu) is delectable and better than a lot of Chinese restaurants on Olive. We also tried pork with bamboo shoots, green beans, eggplant in garlic sauce, and the Beijing noodles. I'd recommend all of those dishes save the Beijing noodles since it was mainly noodles with a tiny bit of meat.

Yelp
Ate here a few times. The portion of meats are getting less and less. But the prices are unchanged. It's getting to a point I don't wanna come back anymore. My bowl of beef noodle came with two tiny pieces of beef. Seriously! This is the second time straight. Singapore noodle literally had four small tiny shrimps. The rest are all veggies. This dish is almost ten bucks. Are you kidding me?

Yelp
Service: 3 Stars Pho Broth: 3.5 Stars Beef: 2 Stars Value 4 Stars Total: 3.125 Stars Would I Return? Yes I love Pan-Asian Market and was excited to try China Bistro, the food stall inside the market. I've only been once and ordered the "Vietnamese Beef Noodle Bowl" AKA pho tai. You order and pay at the counter then someone brings you your food. Beverages, condiments and the like are self-service. I didn't see a place for trash or to put dirty dishes, so I left those at the table when finished. The people were friendly, but three stars seems appropriate for a partially self-service situation. The menu seems to specialize in noodle bowl and soup-type dishes. They also have a limited number of what appear to be Peking ducks hanging in a case, as well as a selection of cakes and buns. I ordered a large bowl of pho with beef. The broth was light-colored and not too greasy. It was on the sweeter side than I prefer, I think the cinnamon and star anise were dominant, but I'm no expert on Vietnamese flavors. The beef was not the thin, raw slices that many places offer, which cooks in the hot broth. These were more like strips of fully cooked meat. The bowl was accompanied by rhe standard plate of bean sprouts, cilantro, basil and lime. Overall, it was a pretty good bowl. Not the best ever, but above average to my taste. The prices were very reasonable. It was a good experience, especially adding in the chance to browse the market or do some shopping before or after lunch.

Yelp
This has been our go-to place for asian/Chinese food ever since it opened. We don't travel to Olive eat here every week! The dishes are reasonably priced for the portion. My kids love to eat here, even if we get the same dishes every time! I hope they will expand their menu gradually, or even add a bubble tea station at some point on their bakery side. Oh, by the way, we often buy their bakery goods as well. Good for breakfast and snacks. They have a few special selections on weekends as well. Try them all!

Yelp
The best bbq pork fried rice on the planet. Ok, a bit much, I know. But it was great!

Yelp
I moved to STL from Los Angeles and was worried about not finding the quality of pho and fried rice in the midwest. Boy was I wrong -- this spot has the best mapo tofu I've had in a long time and hits every dish out of the park.

Yelp
My favorite place to stop by once or twice a week for lunch. I'll either eat there or bring it back to the office. They have fast service, good prices and the food is delicious. What else is there to say?

Yelp
My first time here after about a year ago when they first open. They expand the grocery store and it's really nice and clean! I used to go to Global Market for my Asian grocery but I think I will go here instead. I'm asian myself and love the food here (China Bistro inside the store). It reminds me of H Mart (Korean Store) in Chicago and Boston. I ordered Young Chow Fried Rice. It's very tasty and delicious! Can't wait to go back to try different food on their menu.

Yelp
Awesome! Best Chinese restaurant in St. Louis. I can't even think of anything I don't like here! I really love that Dan Dan noodle and mapo tofu. I DEFINITELY recommend this restaurant to everyone who likes Chinese food. And if you don't like Chinese food, well come to this restaurant and think again! Thank you China Bistro for your amazing food!
