Old style chinese food. The food was very good. Nice, quiet atmosphere with booths and tables. They bring you a paper to go menu to your table, but the menu choices are huge. We had the pu pu platter for two, bbq pork chow mein with crispy noodles and sweet & sour chicken with steamed rice. Everything was delicious. They charge $4.50 for a soda, which I thought was a little high, and the paper menus are my only complaints. The food prices were great and we will be going back. I would like to try their egg foo young next.

Ordered egg flower soup it was so bland and it had corn in it tasted like corn water. It was very thin and watery it took the lady forever to take me order and there wasn’t a single customer in the restaurant

Very quiet restaurant. Given that it's a small family owned. If you are there for some authentic Chinese food you came to the right place. Some people who reviewed this place are competitors and poorly rated this place. if I had to compare this from billies this place does a lot better when it comes to quality. I have been a local supporter of this establishment and highly recommend this place. If you are a driver and looking for work highly recommend applying here and show support. The owner is very intentive on making the experience great she def works hard given the lack of staff. I highly recommend the dragon dinner, and also some of their lunch specials like the three delights , and sizzling rice soup.

Great food at a great price. I love everything I have tried here. The mushrooms and bamboo on the premiers chicken are great. The orange chicken os crunchy with a slight spice, and the kung pao three delights is wonderful with chicken, shrimp, beef, and cashews. I also love the fried rice here as well as their sizzling rice soup. Remember to ask for chilli for some added kick. I heavily recomend this to everyone looking for a delicious chinese restraunt, especially here in SW Bakersfield. They will make any dish you want spicy as well if you ask.

Me and my husband stopped in for the first time, the inside is traditional, the lady that helped us was the sweetest, everything from the egg flower corn soup to our meals everything was delicious .. we will be going back.. thank you for you excellent service and food

We have been sitting here for an and only got 2 of our 4 dishes. We aren’t even hungry any more. The bbq pork ribs were so dry and the hot and sour soup was so salty. I definitely do not recommend coming here. We told the staff not to make our other dishes as it was taking so long. The restaurant wasn’t even busy.

This place is my favorite,she cooks and does mostly everthing...with the economy its hard but she is an awesome person&is an awesome cook...its hard to get help due to pay raises.I really enjoy talking with her when I go,I think I may offer a few free hours to lighten her load.Pĺease see for yourself,she makes each order,not fast food.

Food is amazing! Super delicious 😋😋🤤 , passes by a few times. If you see it a bit empty just know A LOT of people order to go.

We ordered delivery last night and it was really good! Wontons, Hot and Sour soup and Premier Chicken-everything tasted fresh and delicious! We definitely will be ordering again!

Just went a couple of days ago . Won't go back . Service was bad . Took about 10 minutes before anyone even came out from the back to seat us. Food was yuk . The lemon chicken & sweat and sour chicken tasted the same . The chow main was mushy . Just bad

zero stars!! this was one of our favorites and today we recieved our order and deep down in the rice noodles there was a fly!! we threw the entire order away & none of us ate!! never will we return!! stay away unless you want flies and who knows what else in your food!!!

After the great castle food diarrhea , we are as a family are returning to china garden , were past dinners have been great , and again its that simple.

Great Chinese food! This was my go-to spot when I was younger. They've been in business for 37 years. Their lunch special is my favorite and still so reasonably priced at $11.95 for entree, soup, egg roll, fried wonton and bbq pork fried rice (lunch M-Sat 11-3). open till 9:30pm.

Why have I not found this place before??? Amazingly good food. Can't decide if the egg foo young, orange chicken, chow mein, beef with string beans or fried rice was best. Definitely worth the try if you haven't been before.

Looking for a good Chinese place. This is not it. Everything was pretty bland. Even the soy sauce tasted off. And the sweet-and-sour soup left a horrible taste in my mouth.

The food lacked flavor. Sweet and sour pork meal. server might as well worked for the DMV. The 2of us were the only ones there on a Tuesday during lunch. I don't have to go back. I should have saved my appetite for tacos.

I have to say I think that I was here in my teens and now I am 51. I am glad that we came here. We were looking for somewhere new to go and I literally have not had any egg foo yong for a good 10 years if not longer and this place had egg foo young!!! It was good, it was a good portion. It's a little bit slower once you order because they are lacking employees but the waitress got it done. It would be probably harder for her to get orders out if this place was packed. The restaurant is actually pretty big in size. My boyfriend loves his meal although I don't remember what he got but he wants to go back definitely. I guess they have the best hot and sour soup.

Oh yoya I use to come here as a child the food use to be so good at least once or twice a week we would eat there. I have ate there twice in the last 5 years and what a disappointment. The pu pu platter was my go to it wasn't how I remember it.i always wonder if the original cooks were still there.service gets a star though

Been my favorite Chinese food for so many years. They have the absolute best pot stickers! The elderly woman who runs the business always remembers me and is the absolute sweetest! If you are wanting amazing, fresh authentic food please try here!

Ok. So the whole news thing about vermin in the restaurant was obviously blown out of proportion. Construction nearby caused some shifting of critters. Owners of the strip mall refused to help their occupants deal with said critters. Occupants have taken matters into their own hands to keep things managed. So.... They're open! They're running things smoothly, as usual. FOOD IS STILL AMAZING! I ordered take out a couple nights ago. Hadn't heard much about the news thing. Got the whole story from the owner. She was crushed to have the news say negative things about her. So sad. I ordered the Shrimp with garlic sauce. My favorite. Shrimp with onions and peppers and water chestnuts. A little spicy. Delicious! I also ordered the Kung Pao beef. Kung Pao is great. Never tried the beef before. I liked it. Thinly sliced beef with a spicy sauce and cashews. I hope people will get back in to eat. The place is the same its been for years. Food is great. Staff is always on it.

It was empty when we went, a small elderly lady appeared from the inside of the restaurant, and showed us to our tables. She brought us to paper menus and an order form. A little later, she asked what we wanted and we ordered a few things off the menu + drinks. The food came out at a pretty decent time, not too fast or too slow. Staff was sweet and decor is nice, I appreciate seeing people in reviews talking about how they ate here years ago. Food was good, everything was fine :)

This was our first time eating here. The elderly lady running the front of the house moved slowly, but the service was wonderful. She made sure to keep our drinks filled. The food was delicious (beef broccoli, beef fried rice, barbecue pork chow mein, and the three delights sautéed entree). The only con I have is the egg rolls were a tiny bit too oily for me, but the hubs disagreed. We will go back

The Food was so delicious. The food was nice and hot! Best in town! I ordered the shrimp fried rice it was nice and hot it tasted perfect.

This restaurant is a Bakersfield staple and still quite yummy. They have a great assortment of lunch specials. I am posting a new menu because prices have gone up, just like they have everywhere. If you're looking for Chinese food for yourself or for the family you can't go wrong with China Garden. They deliver too!

We found this place accidentally Wednesday night, I just have to say yum! The service is amazing. We felt like we were at a friends home having dinner. Their shrimp fried rice is excellent but their Crispy Duck won us all over. This is now our go to for authentic Chinese cuisine.

There are variety of food choices which are mostly what we want, so we can recommend them to our friends & family.

The Chinese food was pretty good and we got delivered and they got the whole order right that goes a long way now a days it's worth a try

Sadly I was not a fan, everything was very oily and had no taste. I figured since I was trying this place out that I would go the safe route and ordered orange chicken, fried rice, chowmain, and pot stickers thinking it couldn't possibly be ruined. Now I'm out of $50 and have a stomach ache.

Fantastic buffet! Just moved to the area, and I am so glad that I found this as my go to Chinese buffet! The layout is very open and welcoming. It's a sizable restaurant so you can eat comfortably without having to be shoulder to shoulder with strangers. The buffet itself has solid options and the staff do a superb job maintaining the restaurant as it was very clean, and they are on top of things as it persons to refills! Tip - there is a pep boys in the corner of this same complex which is also awesome. Drop your car off here for maintenance and head over to this buffet so you can maximize your time!

I am from NYC and I know good Chinese food. China Garden is good Chinese food. The quality, taste, and cleanliness are top-notch. They're open for takeout/delivery so let's support them in this crisis!

I've been coming here for the past few days. Their food is delicious. But things change when I came in today to pick up my order. Y'all know I love my chili oil. I checked my order and she only gave me one. I asked for 4 more, and she said it's a "dollar" each. Mind you these chili oil come in a small container. SMALL container and it's a dollar!? Sorry, I wanted to give this place a try. I'm sticking with Great Castle China. Over there, they know me and my family already and they know when I'm there, they give me extra chili oil (NO CHARGE)! I really tried my best with this place, but the owner or lady up front just gave me weird vibes as well.

Sizzling rice soup! If you haven't tried it you are missing out! I've been having it for well over 15 years and it's always consistent. Hands down, this is spot is in my top ten small businesses I love to support.

This is my go to for delivery! Delivery is free and worth the wait. Not that it takes long, rather quickly actually. I usually order the sizzling rice soup, soooo good! House special pan fried noodles are the best here! They are chewy and have a ton of flavors! Also can't go wrong with the potstickers! Definitely homemade and delicious! I could eat a whole order for myself. Order through yelp and get quick delivery!

I literally have been coming here for over 25 years and I still remember the food here being delicious since then! The owner, Yoya, has seen my siblings and I grow up and she and her employees have always treated us with respect and courtesy! This restaurant is an institution for me as I still think they make the best Chinese food in Bakersfield. I haven't had anything else in town that comes close besides The Great Wall. My favorites are the Garlic Chicken, Sliced Chicken with Broccoli, Kung Pao Three Delights, and the Chicken Chow Mein! OMG!!! These are all just so amazing! I also LOVE their sizzling rice soup and is seriously one of the best soups in town. In fact, if I'm sick, I will get this to help me feel better! I also love their egg rolls and their chicken in the foil! You really can't go wrong here! While this place is a hole-in-the-wall and a bit aged, they really do make the best Chinese food in town. Plus, I have been coming here since I was kid and literally grew up on this food! This place will always have a soft spot in my heart and I will continue to come here for years to come! Highly recommended!

The waitress here is so sweet she took great care of us. The soup was so delicious and the food tasted great! The only reason I'm giving a 4 star review is due to the fact that we waited for a hour and a half for our food and there was only 3 of us. The waitress was so nice and apologized for the wait because of her attentiveness and of course the delicious food I would try this restaurant again.

Ordered online for delivery and they called to confirm the details of my order - excellent service there! Also asked how I would like the delivery, I'm in a hotel not your typical home delivery. The delivery person arrived and evidently the hotel phones were out so she brought it up to my room, again excellent service! Food arrived piping hot and order was correct. Hot & sour soup was packed with ingredients and was the perfect balance of spicy & sour. The wonton soup is also loaded with not just wontons and broth but veg and chicken too. Both soups were very yummy and plenty of leftovers! Chicken chow mein and chicken veg was also tasty. Overall will be ordering from these guys again when in town.

For the most part we a happy with this place. Only exception is on occasion when I order my favorite meal there has been a problem. I like chow mein, but theirs has mushrooms in it. I always specify NO mushrooms ( I am deathly allergic to them) but I have on occasion found mushrooms in my order. So I have to give it away and I have no meal. I try to check it out before I leave the place, but I can't always tell if there are 'shrooms until I dump it out onto my plate.

We ordered through DoorDash however there was a problem with the driver. An employee from this restaurant delivered the food. We were beyond surprised when our order arrived at our door. Not to mention it was pouring rain outside at the time. We would have understood if the order was cancelled but glad that it wasn't. This is our first experience with China Garden and we will be returning customers.

Restaurant was unpleasantly hot, service was non existent with nobody eating here! I wish Bako had some great Chinese options because China Garden did not live up to my friend's recommendation. Second time this has happened, probably won't return.

Needed to try another part of town for a change, was craving some good Chinese food. It was mid-day on a Sunday and not at all busy in the dining room - no one! The good: The lady who took my order was very sweet. Another worker was so funny, squawking loudly at another co-worker and admittedly could not wait to get out of there for her break! 2 customers coming in for pick-up seeing me peruse the paper take out menu did not hesitate to recommend their fave dishes. Gave me some confidence that the place has regulars The food was reasonably priced Ready within the 15 min they had quoted me The not so great: I would never eat in here - it was dingy, very pepto pink and really outdated. For take out I could care less though, if the food is good The food was not good - major issue. I did not eat very much just in case and while I was not ill afterwards, my tummy was doing somersaults for a couple of hours and I had to eat some ginger tablets Ordered: Kung Pao Three (beef, shrimp, chicken) This came with white rice which seemed fine and I liked that it was included with this dish. Many places charge for it! I found the sauce to be a bit flat. Needed a bit more heat and sweet. The shrimp had a bit of a funky smell to it - and it should not, of course. Did not eat the shrimp Chicken fried rice. The chunks of chicken were larger than some places but consisted of only dark meat, making the rice a bit greasy Total $23 Glad we tried it but not sure we will return.

Wow as a kid me and my parents went here at least once a week. just got takeout to go.ordered Kung Pao chicken,beef and broccoli,and sweet and sour pork and white rice. What a disappointment the rice was cold and hard it tasted like its been sitting in the rice cooker all day.kungpao chicken tasted like grissle had no flavor.beef and broccoli came with like two peaces of broccoli same with the beef no flavor and was dry. 50 dollars which I could of used and had better Chinese food at Panda Express..

Food was greasy and plain , I ordered the chow fun bbq pork to go when I got home I notice it was Canadian ham ‍ the shrimp fried rice was plain and greasy also

This is my favourite Chinese restaurant in the USA! Me wife, and I, will literally drive 1.5 hours one way to go and eat there. The food is absolutely delicious, full of flavours, and is brought to your table very quickly. The owners and their staff are from China and they are always very warm, friendly, and courteous. Dining there is an experience! You will feel like you are literally in China as the authentic decor throughout the restaurant is very eye catching and pleasant to dine in. It is one of those places you return to that always feels like you're experiencing it again for first time. You will love and you will return for sure!

This place is pretty clean and the food is fresh doesnt sit out all day. I know bcuz you can hear the cook cooking and the food smells delicious. Portions are pretty good and the lunch specials are great. The lady is very nice and the service is Great. I highly recommend this place if you are craving chinese food.

China Garden is the literal epitome of a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. I wouldn't expect to have delicious Chinese food in a random plaza at Bakersfield, but my family had to stop at Firestone on our drive up to San Jose. This restaurant seems like a family owned restaurant, and I believe it is. On the other side of the restaurant, there was an older man that looked like he was rolling egg rolls, which made the restaurant seem "authentic." My family ordered the fried rice, Hainan chicken, and Premier's beef. After the first bite, all of us were in love. Typically, we have leftovers, but we managed to finish everything (and we even ordered an extra fried rice). Even the description of the food sounds good and authentic. The waitress was super sweet. We kept telling her how the food was good and what not, and she was so shy and humble when thanking us. Even when she saw our tip to her, she was smiling a lot. At the end of our lunch, we were having conversation with her and she was so cute. When we went, there wasn't a lot of people. They do have a good lunch special and dinner combo, though. If I were to ever find myself in this area, I'd definitely eat here again.

Food was hot and fresh, but pretty bland. Service was ok. Staff wasn't very friendly and we were the only ones in the restaurant, guess this shouls have been my first clue. Won't be returning.

The owner is always so accommodating and sweet. The food is always on point and so good! The hot tea is my favorite in all of Bakersfield. The eggrolls and potstickers are great too! Atmosphere is quiet, food is always hot and tastes fresh!

Because of illness I have not this restaurant. I enjoy eating at China Garden. Many Chinese restaurants everything tastes the same. I enjoy the different flavors at China Garden.
