This place has been in PS for a very long time. Pretty decent food in comparison to any other Chinese restaurants in the desert. They remodeled which updated the resturant a bit. They have a good lunch menu where there is a decent portion of food for the price. Family run which is nice. If youre in the mood for Chines food worth the stop!

China King is the best "chinese" you'll find in Palm Springs. Now don't get excited, that's not really saying a lot when you're only other choice is Panda Express. If you're wanting good Asian in Palm Springs, you'll find it in many Thai places and some Vietnamese too. But Chinese remains the elusive category in PS. So, I decided to give China King a try. So first the food. It's not bad really... pretty standard but not bad. I'd say it's fairly average for all the Americanized Chinese food I've had 50 plus years. The Kung Pao chicken was a little spicy but not much, and the flavor was ok. The chicken Lo Mein was on the bland side, but the noodles tasted fresh and there was lots of chicken pieces. Prices are reasonable for Palm Springs, and they have some lunch specials and some good deals if you arrive before 5:00pm. The portions are huge, each plate could feed two people as long as you're not very hungry. The hot and sour soup was pretty good, but when they say a cup they mean a small cup for sure. They brought me brown rice without asking if I wanted brown or white. Which they may only have the brown, you might ask if you go. A strong point here is the family that runs it are very friendly. Some younger ones of the family are helping out which is fine. They checked back on me a couple times. They do a LOT of take out business I noticed. The restaurant itself is clean, but on the small side and sparse. My biggest "odd" observation was actually the front door. Reminded me of a fire escape door at a theater. Just a solid metal double door. If they were to replace it with a nicer wood/glass window door it would go a long way of making the place a bit more inviting. Some pendant lighting above the booths instead of just can lights in the entire place would also help cozy things up a bit. But I digress. So for Chinese food in Palm Springs it's China King or fast food. I'd go back to China King to explore the menu a little, maybe pick up some quick take out some night. But I'd like to find some tastier dishes there, before I'd consider taking out of town friends. For now if they want chinese, I'd probably steer them to some Thai or just say ... "Gas up the car, were getting on the I-10 south".

The food is here is MeH … very basic. Decent prices for a family on a budget. Some dishes are better than others but over all mediocre.

Google
Food is fantastic. Busy place with very generous portions. Not the sexiest restaurant but you go here for the food and their great service. Food comes out very fast. Try the assorted appetizers. A taste of several things. Another great disk is the fried pork in garlic sauce. Overall a really good place with great food.

I been dining at the restaurant for over 29 years. Every time, I go there, it is like going back home. Thank you for the food and great customer service.

Google
Do not eat here. First, the delivery was a mess. Photos below. They did not wrap anything and the sauce from one dish went all over every other dish and spilled everywhere. The food was not edible. It was disgusting. The portion is amazing. Unfortunately, the food was inedible.

Google
Excellent Chinese food and super friendly service!! I started with the sesame balls and hot and sour soup. The sesame balls were so tasty with the crispy outside covered in sesame seeds to the chewy sweet bean paste inside (I left with an additional order to go!!). The hot and sour soup was thick (just the way it should be) and full of delicious ingredients; like mushrooms, chicken, egg, bamboo shoots. For my main I shared mushu pork and beef lo mein. The mushu pork was the best I've had in such a long time, lots of crunchy veggies and tender pork! The beef lo mein was tasty too. Lots of food and had lots of left overs. The service is friendly and fast! Can't wait to come back to try new things.

Google
This is one of the best, if not the best, Chinese restaurants in the Coachella Valley. The service was great and fast. Very polite and attentive servers. The food is always good. We will be back.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious Chinese food! Family run very fast and friendly service. And it's the perfect classic American Chinese restaurant just like I remember growing up. Definitely come here!!! They have a great lunch special.

Yelp
This used to be one of our favorite restaurants, but apparently they changed ownership. We ate there recently and we were both very disappointed. First off the bowl of soup was extremely small but I guess for $7 we should not have been surprised. The chicken wings were horrible, undercooked, the won tons were undercooked, the chow fun didn't taste good. The fish in black bean sauce was okay but it had more veggies than fish. Unfortunately we won't be returning. The service was okay, no ambiance .

Yelp
Classic Chinese American Cuisine. Shrimp with Snow Peas Chicken with Mushrooms LoMein with BBQ Pork Egg Rolls Hot, tasty, great portions. What more can you ask for! China King continues to be a classic stop for us. I'm SOOO thankful that they have re-opened their indoor dining space. Came here on a whim while dad was visiting from out of town and really enjoyed everything. The noodles were incredible and not over seasoned, very tasty and even better as leftovers the following day. Hidden MVP was the Shrimp with Snow Peas which were everything I would dream of in this dish! The SNOW PEAS must be in season because these were perfectly cooked but still crisp and sweet. If I had to ask for anything it would be maybe a little bit of ambience music? But the service was great and you can tell it was family-owned by the son getting us our drinks while the daughter sat doing her hw at the register. Will ALWAYS come here for more chinese whenever the mood strikes!

Yelp
The best thing is family own and operate the business. Their children have to help to serve during their summer time. Small lobby but organized table arrangements. The food is so so. It is kind of salty but big portion for an Asian Restaurant in desert. My family enjoyed their Chinese Food

Yelp
While staying in downtown Palm Springs, we were craving traditional Chinese food. These little places are usually the best, if you're looking for authentic tastes. We were greeted by one of the waitresses and directed to our table. Once seated, the came to begin taking our order. They were very patient with us, while we browsed the menu. This appeared to be a family run business, which meant (even more) that this would probably be very authentic. The seating wasn't fancy but gave an ambiance of a 'mom & pop' location. After placing our orders, the food began to come out within 5-10 minutes beginning with the wonton soup. Although i'm not a soup person, this had an amazing flavor profile. The remaining dishes trickled out minutes after each other. Everything tasted fresh with a traditional, but unique taste for the restaurant. When eating at a restaurant, we look for the traditional flavor but understand that each place will have their own recipe - this is what makes each restaurant unique. This place was a great find, for us, and already dedicated ourselves to coming again when in Palm Springs. We highly recommend trying this restaurant. *Highlights* Friendly service A+ Clean restaurant Good variety of traditional Chinese food Great flavorChicken

Yelp
Wow pricey for Chinese takeout food but I guess they have an edge since they're the only Chinese restaurant in the area

Yelp
Every time I'm in Palm Springs I stopped by this restaurant to get the curry chicken because it's that good. I get the lunch portion which comes with a crab Rangoon, egg roll, and your choice of egg drop or hot and sour soup. I get the hot and sour soup because I like it the best.

Yelp
This is a family run restaurant that has been around over 50 years. The food is hot and fresh. Nothing earth shaking about the menu but sometimes you just want some familiar comfort food. Portions are huge. Staff is attentive. Lots of the usual choices. Nothing fancy but well done.

Rick P.

Yelp
Not their fault: Uber Eats dumped the food in the sidewalk and didn't knock or less the doorbell. Food was inedible by the time I checked / it's been over 100 Uber Eats disputed...

Rachelle B.

Yelp
This place is trash. This is not Chinese food. It was nasty ass flavor never again when I go there that is not Chinese food. Panda express is better.

Yelp
The BEST lunch specials. Great sized portions. Great service. Everything was delicious. Interior is just a regular Chinese restaurant which I love. One bathroom which was clean. Noodles were so good, orange chicken was delicious! Definitely go if you're looking for Chinese food in Palm Springs!!!

Yelp
The food is so fresh and delicious! And the prices are great! In a city of mega Mexican Restaurants, China King is a healthy choice!

Yelp
Simply, one of the best ! Charming atmosphere, but very basic inside. Go for the food. We got our order "to go" and ate in our hotel room.

Yelp
It's tough to find good Chinese food in Palm Springs, but friends told us there is a very good chef at China King, a place we would drive past but never ventured into. Are we ever glad we decided to eat there on a recent Saturday night! This is not a fancy place at all -- very modest, almost stuck in time, and the interior probably hasn't changed much since the Sixties. But don't judge a book by its cover or a restaurant by its lack of fancy decor. The food is DELICIOUS, beautifully prepared and the servings are enormous. And the bill? Incredibly reasonable! I judge a Chinese restaurant by their Singapore noodles. These were the best! Thankfully, they don't have pork which I don't eat or like but they did have plenty of big, succulent shrimp and lots of tender, juicy, thinly sliced chunks of chicken. Some places mix into many noodles but the ratio of protein and vegetables to rice noodles is just perfect and it was beautifully spiced -- just enough curry to give it a little heat and some rich flavors. Scrumptious! To fulfill our daily requirement for vegetables, we ordered the Vegetable Delight and were served a platter of fresh vegetables including broccoli, carrots, white and green onions and water chestnuts. These were fresh vegetables, bright in color and beautifully, carefully chopped to make them appealing and bite sized. They were served in a subtle white sauce that allowed the taste of the vegetables to come through and they were cooked just right -- neither mushy from overcooking or raw from undercooking. It was a family sized platter of vegetables. The third dish was fish fillet served in black bean sauce -- another total winner! Fish was lightly powdered (maybe in corn starch?) and NOT battered. It was perfectly cooked fish, tender and flavorful. And mixed into the dish were some chopped red and green bell peppers and other vegetables to give it color and visual appeal. The amount of sauce was just right, neither skimping nor drowning the fish and vegetables. All three dishes were attractive and appetizing. Service is friendly and efficient at this family run operation. They brought us some bowls of free brown rice which we didn't need. And then we were astonished by the check, a mere $53.00 for such excellent food. Again, I can't emphasize the generosity of the portions here -- they are family sized portions, so bring friends and family. We could not possibly have eaten all they brought to two people but they were glad to package up the leftovers which we ate for an excellent lunch the following day. This very traditional, modestly appointed restaurant reminded me of the Chinese restaurants of my youth in the Chinatowns of Los Angeles and New York City which makes it the perfect accompaniment to visitors to Palm Springs looking for a nostalgic Mid-Century experience. Let those corporate Chinese food places be damned! We can't wait to go back and try everything else and spend less money to enjoy it!

Yelp
After a hard days work fixing up a condo, we decided to eat at home, and we ordered China King. Sesame chicken, was good all white meat and very tasty, orange chicken a little spicy but also tasty! Some chicken fried rice and white meat chicken & lo mein. It feed 3 of us, and had enough leftovers to feed another 3 the food over all was good. Service was great, the whole family was working the restaurants that night! Parking is ez.

Yelp
Typical sit down Chinese quick dining joint. Thisnplace has been here for decades and it shows. The building is old and run down, but the food is classic chinese cuisine. The service was good and friendly and we didn't have any complaints about our food. I would eat here again, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it.

Yelp
Stopped in for dinner on a Tuesday night, there being only a couple other tables taken by patrons. Staff was very polite. We ordered from the happy hour section of the menu (option B), and ordered the orange crispy chicken and general tso's chicken for our entrees. We also ordered house fried rice. I really enjoyed the orange crispy chicken, as it was not as sweet as other orange chickens I've tried. However, I wouldn't consider it "crispy chicken", as it became soggy quite fast due to how much sauce the dish had. The general tso's was unlike any kind we've had before, there was a slight sweet and sour-ness to it. The house fried rice was on the blander side, however the meat did not have a freezer burned taste at all that some Chinese restaurants do, which I am appreciative of! They did not skimp on the meat in the rice either, and it was a nice addition to our meal. While this was not the best Chinese food I've had, I could see myself returning as I love supporting small locally owned businesses, and this one is certainly family operated. I want to try either the chicken or beef kung pao next, if I return.

Yelp
The food was literally the best Chinese I've ever had! I wish I could've eaten it all!!! Very friendly prompt service.

Yelp
You can't beat China King 'take-out' in Palm Springs for a successful party. The food is always super delicious and ready on time. The portions are very generous & perfectly prepared, with no skimping on ingredients. A truly great value. The Walnut Shrimp are big & plump and richly dressed. The Hong Kong Style Chow Mein is excellent, as is the loaded-with-veggies Fried Rice. The Orange Chicken is spicy-good too. Try the Cream Cheese Won Ton. Yum! My 10 guests were extremely happy with the food and I didn't have to cook!!!

Yelp
On multiple occasions, I've ordered white-only chicken and have received a mixture of breast meat and leg meat And they deny it but still do the up-charge Annoying

Yelp
Always good food and service, been coming here for years and years, always will come back! Great people who run this restaurant!! The bad reviews are stupid!

Yelp
Very amiable service. The food was delicious and authentic. Waitress was very diligent and kind. The decor was pleasant. I recommend trying out this place.

Yelp
A long time member of the PS food and family community. Deserves our support and it's a walk down memory lane. Old school Chinese place. Been going for nearly 50 years.

Yelp
We originally loved this place. We started with: Always a great time here! We LOVE the food here and come here every time. Now: This is our in dinning experience. Appetizer brought in Styrofoam. Then 2 mains brought in Styrofoam. Plus Styrofoam plates... This place forgot how to serve customers in person ... The food is hot, don't get me wrong, but the Styrofoam is clearly and obviously melting into my dinner.

Mickie W.

Yelp
We had takeout from this restaurant last season (2024) and thought the food was good. Had takeout in January 2025 and was disappointed. Food had no flavor .

Yelp
The BEST CHINESE in Palm Springs We have been going to this gem for years when we are visiting Palm Springs The family that runs it is always so friendly and nice And the food is always great All the locals love this place Truly a hidden gem

Yelp
First off, I would like to say that the server was very kind. But, it was an 8 year old girl. I kid you not. This place is staffed using child labor. Our party spent almost $160 and we want every dime back. The crispy duck was easily one of the most disgusting things I have ever eaten. It was actually inedible. I am not a picky eater either. It tasted like they caught it on the golf course. There is absolutely no way that this was quality, farm raised duck. There was numerous bone pieces in the meat, it was burned beyond comprehension, and not crispy. Fried rice was horrific. It is not easy to screw up fried rice that badly. Kung Pao chicken was undercooked. Beer glasses were dirty and smelled terrible. Broccoli beef was made with steak-um. The fact that this restaurant is still open serving customers this oriental junk is shocking and personally upsetting to me. Visitors to Palm Springs beware - do not give this place your business.

Yelp
Delicious fresh, flavorful, classic Chinese food! Quaint place that is family owned. I would definitely go back again. Great prices too!

Yelp
It breaks my heart to have to update this review with such a low rating. This used to be a great family run restaurant. Here it is Christmas Day, and I am practically in tears over the fact that a restaurant full of people as you can see in the picture is being run by 2 underage children. There are no adults in sight. It's possible that the older girl, sister maybe, is over 18, but they mostly leave it upon a 10 or 12-year-old girl to run the entire restaurant. The phone is ringing off the hook. The girl is the only server, the young boy is the bus boy, and the older girl is bringing drink orders. They give priority to the telephone because they are to go orders. The front counter was littered with tickets dating back 90 minutes. I was told 80 minutes ago that my food would be ready in 45 minutes. I've been waiting here this whole time. I finally went up to ask how much longer and I was told that my food was being cooked right now. My friend was eating while we waited for the to-go order. Trying to get his check so we could pay our bill was completely impossible. We are leaving some cash on the table in the hopes that it will match somewhat with the total plus tax. Being understaffed for the holidays is totally understandable. But some adult somewhere should have been out here making a waiting list for people who kept coming in the door and sitting down at tables. But since that wasn't happening, 20 tables were being sat all at the same time and all expecting their food to be ready within a reasonable amount of time. The table next to me said, never mind the rest of our order, just give us the check for what we've eaten so far. This place is losing Goodwill hand over fist. In the amount of time it has taken me to dictate this review, the phone has rung 15 times. And what I mean by that is, 15 different phone orders. And they all get priority. It's not fair to put a little girl in charge of an entire restaurant on what's probably the busiest day of the year. I have a hungry staff who is waiting for food.

Yelp
We ordered delivery. We ordered Mongolian Beef (medium spice), Kung Pao Chicken (medium spice), large fried rice, and Egg Rolls. The order took almost an hour to arrive. This is not the restaurant's fault. The food had been sloshed around in the containers during delivery, so it was quite a mess when we opened the bag. Most of the food was at room temperature upon arrival. We cleaned up the messy containers and re-heated the food. Excellent Dishes we enjoyed: Five Stars 1. The Mongolian Beef was delicious and tasty. The spice was medium and as expected. 2. The Kung Pao Chicken was excellent and flavorful. The spice was spot on. Dishes we didn't care for: 1. The fried rice was disappointing. It appeared to have soy sauce and a small amount of white onion. It tasted bland and nothing like fried rice. We did not eat it. 2. The Egg Rolls were relatively small, had little filling inside, and were mainly fried wontons. They did come with a vibrant, sweet, and sour sauce. After trying a bite, we did not eat them. We understand the convenience and costs of using a delivery service, but the restaurant could upgrade the to-go containers to preserve the food better. The fees from this restaurant were a bit high. We understand that not all of the fees are set by the restaurant. The order was from DoorDash since they do not offer direct delivery. The food subtotal was $51.30, the China King Delivery Fee was $8.49, the DoorDash Service Fee was $7.70, the tax was $4.75, the Dasher Tip was $15.00, and the Total was $87.24. We certainly respect and understand Dasher's must be paid and earn a living. On that same thought, the companies running them (DoorDash, GrubHub, etc.) must help ensure food is safely (safe temperature) delivered in a reasonable amount of time. We spent nearly $90 on two edible dishes that arrived at room temperature. This was certainly not worth it. We have reconsidered using these services in the future.

Yelp
About this place is great the ambience inside the restaurant if you have something to go it's always fresh and ready. I'm a local so I totally love this place. This is my go to anytime. I have friends that are from out of town and they want Chinese takeout? This is my spot, I love China king and the service is quick and on point I can't say nothing bad about it

Yelp
Excellent food. This is old school Chinese food. Incredible portions and every dish delicious. Hard to find authentic places like this...Enjoy!

Yelp
Food is always good, prices are reasonable and very fast service.Parking is usually not too bad, a small lot behind the restaurant and parking on the street.

Yelp
I have been going there many years. I was there yesterday and ordered two teriyaki chicken. The service was horrible. The food was unacceptable. I have never been so disappointed. The teriyaki chicken was cremated. I won't go back. Harold Allen Jr

Yelp
The food was very bland. Will not be returning. The quantity was good but the quality and flavor was lacking.

Yelp
Order crispy chicken and fried rice and I can say what I received was some soggy chicken and plain ass rice with no flavor!! Would rather be hungry than eat this shit! $35 wasted and all this food in trash!
google avatar

Marcel F.

Yelp
Unorganized. Pickup always late, even after getting notice "order is ready" Tables are not cleared while ten people stand in the door waiting to be seated - gong

Kelly C.

Yelp
their food here is very mediocre. Their service is horrible. Every time I've ordered from here I ask for extra hot mustard and duck sauce/red sauce. I never get it. I will never go back here again. I see why everyone I know in Palm Springs will not eat here

LaWanda R.

Yelp
Food is not very good... I was disappointed in my order. I will never order the wings again. And the fried rice was not good either.

Yelp

Yelp

Yelp
Authentic Chinese Food made by Chinese family. We always come here when we feel like eating good Chinese food. It's not the greatest but the best option in Palm Springs. It is run my 1 Chinese family with 3 kids working there.
google avatar

Steven K.

Yelp
We have been coming here regularly for years and years. It has been fun to see the children grow up. The service is excellent, and the food is always delicious, with generous portions and excellent flavor. This is the Chinese food I grew up eating, and I still crave it. The ambiance is not the most glamorous, but you pay for that, and often with so much ambiance, the food isn't all that great!
google avatar

mon k.

Yelp
The food is good. The service is polite. The ambiance is quiet. We had tofu and black mushroom, flat rice noodle with beef and pancakes with beef. Solid choice for chinese food outside a proper Chinatown. Also close to free parking in the city which it helps when it is very hot outside.

Yelp
This is the only Chinese Food in the valley and it does not disappoint. Yummy King Pao Chicken and I love the Lo Mein. Great family run business

Yelp
The food was delicious and authentic. The staff was wonderful as well. We will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Great customer service fresh and flavorful food that gets to you fast. My first choice for Chinese food in Palm Springs.
