"Recently reopened for indoor dining, China Red’s shengjianbao are part of its dizzying dim sum menu, coming three buns to an order, each topped with a tiny crown of black sesame seeds. Order the sticky rice, the wonton-wrapped siu mai, and the translucent rice paper har gow filled with shrimp for a complete yum cha." - Patricia Kelly Yeo

China Red welcome customers to enjoy its variegated Chinese cuisine. Lot of deep fried foods in this buffet are acceptably good. The pork spareribs and fish fillets in chili sauces are the delicious one. Sushi bar, in my opinion, is a little underwhelming with not much options to choose from. The dessert section has lot of interesting and nice options. I went it in lunch time which is cheaper but supposedly less option than dinner time. I believe dinner time with give customers more satisfaction to indulge in their cuisine.

Went here for dinner tonight as we’re staying nearby. Please don’t go here. It’s absolutely disgusting! We paid £53 and all we could eat was chips, chicken wings and spring rolls. Everything was tasteless. Sauces were like water. This photo is meant to be a curry. The food was cold. All the lids were left up. Even the fried rice had noodles were tasteless.

We went to China Red on Sunday for Lunch. It is an All you can eat buffet. The 12 to 1 pm slot is the pick time when it is a little bit crowded. The table is for 90 minutes. It was 18.99£ for Sunday Lunch. Lunch hour is from 12 to 4.30 pm.

Food was good, some were hot but also cold yet most were tasty. Service and atmosphere wasn't too bad. Lots of choices for the buffet which was great so overall experience and expectation was good. Would possibly go back in the future.

My husband and I went for lunch. First impressions: clean, great looking food, friendly helpful staff. Food was good, plenty of choice. Teppanyaki bar as well. Prices were good for what it is. I had beef curry, the beef was so tender it fell apart in the mouth- ideal for pensioners. Lively atmosphere as it was busy but good none the less. Dessert were good as well, ice cream, cake and fruit on offer.

It’s by far the best restaurant in the city. It’s my third time in Edinburgh, and I’m visiting China Red every time . A great variety of Chinese cuisine, unlimited soft drinks and deserts , very pleasant atmosphere and all stuff very kind . Especially K , is very friendly. Congratulations

A great selection of different food on offer, cost seemed extremely reasonable on not only food but drinks also. Was very pleased with our experience here.

Yelp
China Red is quite the blessing in a city like Edinburgh. The price, quality, and variety make this place absolutely worth it, especially for lunch time. I came on a Saturday afternoon with two friends for £10.99 per person. For this price, we were able to eat to our hearts' content from all the noodles, meats, veggies. The food ranges from Chinese dishes to Western fried goods to Japanese sushi. There is even a crepe station where they make chinese savory crepes or chocolate banana crepes right in front of you! It is safe to say that I was very pleased with the selection. The only thing is that there was not much seafood items and the sushi rolls were pretty cheaply made with minimal fillings. Nonetheless, it was still satisfactory due to all the other options available. I was pleasantly surprised by the peking duck wraps as well, which is quite the treat in Chinese culture. There are a few cakes, fruits, and ice cream for dessert although I do think this could be improved. I even saw a waffle bubble wrap station, but no one was there to make them unfortunately. Overall, this is the place for your Asian cravings or when you're feeling really hungry. As someone who grew up eating Asian food all of my life, China Red does a good job with the Chinese food and more. Come here for lunch to really make it worthwhile.

Yelp
Waited over an hour in the queue. Prior to this I had called and was told I didn't need to book a table as there would be no problem getting seated. Food was overpriced and disappointing. Won't be coming back.

Yelp
Why you dont expect luxury fine dining food quality this place exceeded expectations even of my Japanese wife! Probably largest selection of meats of any Chinese buffet we've been to globally Not as greasy as we are used to Very cool modern classy atmosphere Huge election of fresh salads Very reasonable price- just 10 pounds for lunch all u can eat

Yelp
I love this restaurant and they have the best food you can find. I highly recommend going there and you must try the sushi it is delightful.

Yelp
China Red was an outstanding eat. I am one who has spent a month in China for business going all around and I'd have to say this place gives it a run for its money. The chef at the seafood section was very friendly and enthusiastic as he whipped me up some scallops and prawns which were to die for. One can also find amazing dim sum (the chinese call it Baozi) as well as an assortment of noodles, potstickers, and other great chinese food. If you're along for the ride and don't feel like Chinese, there are still other good options. Moreover, I ate with a vegetarian and they were very pleased as well. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Food was lovely, until we started getting bombarded by flies from another table. We told one of the waiters about it, who just looked at them then walked away. Then when leaving to pay, we showed the manager who couldn't have been more disinterested.

Yelp
I was very impressed with the precautions they took during COVID and they took part in eat out help out. My partner took me here for my birthday and I was impressed with the variety and quality. Highly recommended, staff were v friendly also

Yelp
Good selection of scran on tap, there was loads to choose from. Chinese, Japanese, Western dishes, seafood, vegetarian, freshly cooked items, sushi, desserts etc. As buffets go it's a good option. The restaurant was clean and well kept, with plenty staff on hand to help out if needed. There was also a bar you could order drinks from. I must make it clear that this is a four star rating for the world of all-you-can-eat buffets. The meal here isn't as nice as going to a specialist restaurant, but if you're famished and need a good, proper feed on a budget this is a good food stop.

Yelp
Less fun than its sister at Chesser seeing as there's no conveyor belt, just the usual large dishes of foodstuffs that you walk round and spoon out. Price-wise it's the same though and the quality's the same. Possibly fewer non-Asian options for kids though (i.e. maybe no pizza slices like at the other branch). Good for office nights out etc. the same as the similar establishment it took over from.

Yelp
This is a new Chinese buffet just off Lothian Road, near the Lyceum theatre and Usher Hall. Situated in what was a Jimmy Chung's before, the place is perfectly set up to be a Chinese buffet, but they've still done a good job in decorating the place in such a way that it feels quite cool to be in. The lighting is good, bright around the food serving area, and dimmer where you sit to eat. The place was quite loud when we were there, but I'm glad to see it was doing so well in its first week of opening. The food selection is great. It's got every Chinese dish I could think of. I always get excited at buffets and just piled my plate high with five different meats and sauces and plenty of rice and noodles as well. The flavours were all very nice, and the choice is good enough that you won't get bored on your second and third trips to the buffet. There is also a sushi area, but I don't like sushi, so no comments about that. After dinner, you can choose from a selection of cakes, traybakes and ice cream for dessert, all included in the buffet price. All that's not included is drinks, but quick and efficient staff members ensure you are not thirsty for long. Overall, as buffets go, this is a very good one, definitely worth trying out. The hustle and bustle probably rules it out if you're looking for a quiet, romantic meal (but who goes to a buffet for that anyway?), but there are plenty of seats, so going with a group of friends wouldn't be a problem. By the way, 50% off until April 16th to celebrate its opening, so give it a try soon!

Yelp
New Chinese buffet right next to Usher Hall. Went with some friends because of the half off deal for dinner. The lower rating might just be because I'm not a huge fan of Chinese buffets, and the food at China Red seems like typical fare for a buffet. The atmosphere and interior of the restaurant is definitely a lot nicer than other Chinese buffets I've been too, but the food didn't wow me. They do have a good selection of meats, but only a few veggie options (the green beans were pretty good). Their dessert selection might even be more varied than the mains (macarons, ice cream, jello, fruit, cream puffs, cakes, and more!) For a new restaurant, the service was pretty good, and I'm sure it will improve as they work out the kinks. If you're a student looking to save some money or are happy with typical Chinese buffet food, then by all means give China Red a try. It's nothing spectacular for me, but it certainly does the job if you're craving a whole bunch of American-style Chinese food.

Chris V.

Yelp
Very good buffet selection and most of the dishes were very good. A few were less so. I enjoyed the curries most of all. There's also a good selection of western stuff for kids (although I didn't try any this trip).

Nic N.

Yelp
Giving this place 5 stars because as far as Chinese buffet goes, it's excellent. We went on a Sunday and the selection was really varied with Chinese, American, Japanese, and other cuisines on offer. There wasn't much in the way of vegetarian options so probably best avoided if you're not omnivorous. Their sushi was particularly nice and the dessert selection was huge. Bottles of wine come in at around £15 and they have a cocktail menu. This would be a good place to come on a lazy Sunday to sit with friends and family and graze for a couple of hours. The staff are friendly and helpful and I really don't have anything bad to say about it at all!

Yelp
Perfect. This is a hidden gem in Edinburgh. I couldn't believe this is £10. I will definitely come back for sure!

Yelp
So much to choose from! Loved sampling all the delicious foods. And then there was even an amazing dessert station. My children loved the waffle ice cream cones!

Yelp
The staff was friendly and attentive, and the food was incredible. Way better than the Chinese food we get in Canada. Great price too

Yelp
We went on Saturday afternoon Bank holiday weekend and found it very very good. Plenty of time to go up again and again. We both enjoyed it very much. Good pleasant service. Will definitely come again.
