"China Star at 1075 W. Craig Road earned 39 demerits during an inspection on March 9. Heath inspectors found fly strips hanging over a prep sink, a rusted freezer, and food held at a dangerous temperature for more than four hours. Inspectors issued demerits for dirty equipment and work surfaces that weren’t sanitized after preparing different raw meats and a dish machine that did not sanitize equipment. The restaurant reopened on March 13 with a zero-demerit A grade." - Susan Stapleton

This restaurant definitely deserves another try if you haven't been here in a while. Fabulous value. Fresh food, selection will satisfy most and great service! We will be back soon. Keep up the good work!

Great value for your dollar. I know some people are going to complain about the food here but if you put into perspective that food you are getting for the dollar amount it’s not bad. Food is always hot and always plentiful. They have oysters for dinner, some might cautious about them but I’ve never been sick from them. Servers are attentive and constantly cleaning your table. The food is flavorful. You will find something you like. I don’t eat the sushi here, not because of the freshness, they just dry out too much for me sitting there. Other than that I’ve tried everything here and I have my favorites. Will keep coming here

We took our food to go today. Been wanting to try the NLV location. Service was good. Received a nice smile and welcome from hostess. They didn’t have a large selection to choose from. Nothing like the China Star food on Charleston Blvd. There were other issues with the food, like it had been sitting out for some time or like it was food from the previous day. Not fresh at all. Receiving my money back would be good because most of the food wasn’t even consumed. These people only care about receiving the money and not about giving their customers good quality fresh food. We even felt sick the next day after eating what we did of the food. These people should be ashamed of themselves, serving leftover food. Anyway, my China Star days are over. Yuck!!!🤢

Google
Sadly I don't have a picture to post but trust and believe I will be going back so I can get more food and update this. Pricing was great. Lunch is 12.99 per person which is really cheap for the amazing food you get. It's all you can eat so that's a bonus. 16.99 for dinner. I went for dinner with a friend and we were stuffed when we left. Total I spent 43 with tip rounded up. Mind you if you go to almost any other restaurant that has crawl fish, shrimp, beef n broccoli, and so much more you will most likely pay between 24 and 30 per person so this is a place that not only has great food and service but the pricing won't hurt your wallet at all. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

Google
Im start off by saying the crab Rangoon and pizza was fire everything else was cold or flavorless me and kids didn’t feel welcome . To be honest I wouldn’t recommend this place Definitely don’t want to come back. The manager tried to force me to pay a tip when I was trying to paying . The waiter did not prove good service for me to even tip he kept staring at my kids making them feel different. I think the manager keep the tips as well that’s why he was trying to force us to pay.

Google
Nothing against Spanish music. Spanish music playing in a Chinese buffet should have been a clue for me. The food is filling. Some of it is very good. Some is a litle dry. The price is right, and they do have a large selection of items. Attached are pictures of the items I tried.

Google
Great service, the atmosphere is nice enough. Their food selections are hit-or-miss, depending on what day and/or time you go. They used to serve snow crab legs, but they went to the cheaper little soft shell crabs. The rest of the entree? Well, if you time it right, then you get fresh food, if you happen to get there on a slow day, you get stale, hard food.

Allie Tilley

Google
It is a buffet but for the price. they do a good job. It can appear unclean to some but actually, it is no different than most buffets. Food is changed out frequently but I would prefer they not add the remains of the tray they pull. The soups are good and a large selection of appetizers. More seafood offered than expected. The main thing is it is a good value for the money and my family has never gotten sick after dozens of visits over the last 4 years

Yelp
Another hyped up pick from this YouTube influencer I've been following I really need to unfollow him from YouTube. We were in North Las Vegas and we decided to give it a try. This place is a bargain. The wok dishes are about on par with Panda Express and AYCE. I never touch anything raw at a buffet so I have no comments on that. The fried chicken wings did not look appetizing and the beef skew looked burnt and dried out. My favorite was the Steamed fish fillet with special soy sauce, the Mongolian Beef, fried shrimp, and the fried rice. The soups were ok. 3.5 stars for the fish and wok dishes. Everything else around 3 stars. The service was good the staff took away my used dishes and kept my drink full.

Dennis D.

Yelp
Everything was great until it was time to pay. I gave the cashier $100 bill for a $28 meal for 2 people. I was short changed $20. My fault for not checking first. Never coming back!!!

Marikoh H.

Yelp
This Chinese Buffet was serving fresh food before... but recently their foid looks and tasted REHEATED FOR THREE TIMES IN A WEEK.. The Salmon fish looks brown and taste UGLY..and too fishy taste. Most of their food I repeat had been reheated...and also their teapot and cups are greasy. THEIR PRICE ALSO WENT UP TOO HIGH... Our friends and guests who come from out of state does not want to eat here anymore because they said they heard a lot of dirty comments about China Star in North Las Vegas. Plus...they do not agree with the PRICE INCREASE...it is TOO HIGH FOR THE TYPE OF FOOD THEY SERVE.. !

Roland L.

Yelp
For the price the food was okay. The service was good. It was getting close to the ens of the night and the foid were still fresh. The music and the basketball game kept rhe place alive. The workers were very friendly and helpful. If you want cheap but good food I recommend this place.

Mechelyn H.

Yelp
Service was Fantastic!! Every server there was very nice and willing to serve with a great attitude. They're the reason why I was able to give this place 2 stars. I am so sad to give this place such a low rating. First, there weren't very many plant based or vegan options. I ended up eating vegetarian and pescatarian diets instead. Even then, the food was not very tasty at all. The vegetable chow mein was oily and tasteless. The fried rice was also tasteless. The only good thing that I ate there was the garlic green beans, it had the best flavor out of everything that I tried. The Garlic bread was good. I am sorry but I would not recommend this place just based off the non vegan/plant based dietary preferences.

Martin M.

Yelp
Youtube reviewer said this place was under new management. 2 words..STAY AWAY! you have been warned. I have no idea what the leather chicken wing is or any of the meat. The Oysters tasted like the sea..fishy none of the food looked fresh. I explained to the owner in a kind way. He didn't want to hear it.."You ate two plates" We don't waste. Dinner 5:30 Wendsday I'm glad I didn't bring my wife!

Anthon C.

Yelp
Food was alright 6/10 service was okay the only nice person was the Mexican lady was understanding Would recommend if on a budget to eat

Laura A.

Yelp
China Star is an all you can eat Asian/American buffet located in North Las Vegas. They offer a variety of all kinds of different dishes. Some things we tried today actually were good. The strawberries were amazing today - giant sized and very sweet. Fried shrimp. Cooked perfect and seemed fresh. One of the two white fish dishes actually was good. Broccoli was good. Teriyaki chicken was good. The not so good. None of the food was labeled correctly. Chicken wings looked good and had a good flavor but had a spongy unappetizing texture. Chicken on a stick was dried out. The extra mild white fish was cooked perfect but didn't have any seasoning at all. The people working there cleared plates quickly and seemed friendly.

Yelp
First of all this review that I'm uploading is from a friend of mine that came into town & really wanted to eat some Chinese food. So mind you this is not my review I have not eaten at China Star in years especially during the pandemic I now have a personal chef instead. I would eat here. 1. They have upgraded their Buffet restaurant. New tables, new chairs new booths new decorations , pictures on the walls. They have upgraded their food line their sneeze guards their decor. The restrooms in the men & women's restroom has been upgraded nice& clean & the doors are not your standard American doors they go all the way down to the floor so you can Actually have privacy! 2. When you're greeted at the door they are very politevery welcoming they have very good attitudes & so does the staff that bring you your drinks very attentive very clean. 3. The cooks in the back are doing a very good job with the food it is actually delicious. The food is replenish very often & the counters of the food line are cleaned all the time. You can tell that they are taking great pride in their buffet restaurant now. Reminding you once again this is not my review this is my friends that went over there they were extremely hungry. 4. The price is there are extremely reasonable if you're in the area of where this is located this is the only Chinese buffet around in the immediate area it is great pricing it has great food the prices drinks are reasonable also. 5. The food's on their list they do not have lobster if they end up doing lobster one day the price will go up and that's understandable. For dinner they have oysters, crab, shrimp, barbecue chickens grilled chickens teriyaki chickens, beef broccoli's, vegetables, salad bar, have french fries of course Pizza dimsum, dumplings soups crab rangoon they have a good portion of foods there & of course they have the ice cream machine. They have different varieties of versions of the chicken dishes, shrimp dishes, shrimps are very large they are not small or medium. In my friend's words and I quote if you really want to go to a good restaurant in this area that is a buffet and you are craving multiple types of dishes I would highly recommend going to this buffet give it a chance you'll actually enjoy your experience. The people that run the restaurant buffet. The lunch price is different they do not have the oyster or the crab at lunch, but everything else is still the same they're busiest days are Friday Saturday and Sunday. Their slowest days for the week is Monday Tuesday and Wednesdays I suggest if you want to eat in the morning to the afternoon they open at 11:00 you can eat lunch it's the same thing as dinner minus the other things that were mentioned those are for dinners only & the weekends. 6. This 1 is for customer based observations it has nothing to do with the restaurant staff itself. If you are a customer & you're eating at this restaurant the things that was noticed, by families & people who are sloppy when they are getting the food at the food line not only are they on their phones trying to carry a plate they are consistently dropping food on the counters and on the floor causing food waste. Why? The employees having to constantly come back to clean up the mess of the customers. Children who are there are sucking their fingers and licking their fingers as they are touching the handles for the food at the line which can cause illnesses for other people. PARENTS need to Be Aware when you're getting food for your children, or when you allow your children, do not let this happen the employees aren't going to tell the parents' children don't do these things they will just continue to replace the ladles & the spoons that you have to scoop onto your plate. It was also noticed that a lot of the customers will take a lot of food & waste it so they will have to throw it away because these customers do not finish what they grab in fact I believe that there should be a charge for food waste at this restaurant buffet because they are providing good food & good service there, that it is not necessary to sit there & waste their food. Another 1 is that the people who are eating at their table are making the biggest mess as if they do not know how to eat. There is food all over the floor having the employees have to literally tear down everything to clean up the mess because these customers do not know how to treat this restaurant buffet, I would say, if you want this buffet restaurant to continue to look the way that it does try not to destroy their carpet & try not to destroy their chairs that are made of leather black leather of all things. There's that saying you can't ever have nice things because people keep destroying it! Well that goes the same thing for restaurants that upgrade for the benefit of the customers so they can have an enjoyable experience. My question is would you eat like that at your home? & Make that much of a mess? NO! I would think not! Thank you!

Mike D.

Yelp
Great variety of authentic Chinese food that tastes Great Great service and customer is always taken care of as family!

Gabe H.

Yelp
Well let's start with the good. The staff, was great. The gentleman that was working in my area was on his game. I had my ice tea topped off non stop! He rocks!! Now the bad. And this part doesn't bring me any pleasure. You can see what I got, The mushroom chicken, cold Orange chicken I think, cold Crab Rangoon, cold Eggrolls, cold Potstickers, warmish The dumplings, hot and good. Dumpling soup, hot and good. Chicken wings, cold Ice tea, it was ice tea. So over all cold and maybe because I was there early. And if that's the case it's not made fresh daily. I'm a Chinese food snob. So I will not be back.

Vanesa P.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday with my family. It was definitely busy but we got seated pretty quick. Waiter brought us our drinks quick. Food was also good. Won Ton soup was my favorite! They have a variety. Only downfall was that tables are a little close so hard to get by. Would come back

Miguel M.

Yelp
Me gusto mucho este restaurant se los recomiendo el servicio muy bueno el ambiente de lo mejor 5 estrellas

Patricia P.

Yelp
I love going to this place for lunch or dinner! It's very clean and service people are very friendly! My favorite choices are the brócoli beef or chicken and brócoli ... I love their Brócoli. It's always fresh and very tasty! They also have the best hot and sour soup! Perfect every time! They do have a choice of 4 hot soups, shrimp, egg drop and dumpling are the other 3! For lunch they also have egg foo young! Yummy! These are My favorite items but they also have crab, salmon, sea bass, and shrimp dishes galore! Their sushi is always good too and they do have a good assortment of fruit and deserts! I visit often!

Titan D.

Yelp
Not the best place to get Chinese food but if you on a budget by all means go ahead and eat here. They have a good range of food and desserts. I think we went when there was crab legs but they overcooked the crab so the meat shrank. Not bad of a place for that buck.

John H.

Yelp
Great value buffet with fully stocked stations and attentive servers. Chicken dishes are particularly fresh and delicious. My only knock is that if you are a single diner they require you to sit at a really small table and you can never get a booth.

Yareli G.

Yelp
Do not recommend. Food was awful. They don't have many chicken options nor beef. Just looks like a bunch of random items put together. Only recommend going if you're on a budget and not a picky eater.

Robert B.

Yelp
This place has lots of seafood if that is your thing. I'm not into seafood so that elimanates about half the dishes. Ok food, but Panda Express is Better for me, and I don't really like Panda Express. Seems like they have regulars that enjoy it, so that is a plus. For the price and quality of food, I personally would not go back.

John K.

Yelp
This place has upped their game and the food is now really wonderful. It's really the best bargain buffet in Vegas. You can tell the chef or owner, that whoever is responsible for this amazing change has a lot of pride and cares about making good food.

Kylie M.

Yelp
Went here despite all the reviews and got food poisoning, don't recommend at all :( save yourself the sickness

Caroline I.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped in for dinner on a Friday. Friday's they have "all you can eat seafood." We were greeted at the front by two friendly hostesses who seated us at a table and inquired what we wanted to drink. I chose an ice tea and my husband, a Pepsi. You can always gauge the cleanliness of a place by their restrooms, of which this one was immaculate. Upon entering the buffet area, my eyes were immediately drawn to the massive spread of food. They offer a little of everything from beef and broccoli to oysters on the half shell. Crab legs, steamed cod, and salmon, fried shrimp, orange chicken, steamed rice, fried rice, fruit, desserts, etc. We tried our favorites plus a lot of the seafood. Everything was delicious. Come hungry because they feed you here. I recommend trying them out; we were glad we did.

Kaltonowisk J.

Yelp
The food was ok nothing to write h I'm me about just overpriced Chinese food was seated very quickly most of the guests were Hispanic brothers and Sisters

Eric R.

Yelp
So I read most of the reviews about how good it was and how bad it is so we went for dinner and we both side on the very bad Most of the food is cold and supposed to be hot Anyway we won't return but you make up your own mind

BeastMode Z.

Yelp
My first time at this place. $50 for two people for what they called 'holiday menu pricing'. I didn't pick the place but was willing to try it out since I am a huge fan of Chinese food. We flipped a coin to select the place, and the choices were Las Pupusas or China Star. The coin flipped to China Star. First appearance was poor. The place was humid and lacked ventilation. The food selection was lacking and most of the selections were tasteless. There were a few good items such as the orange chicken and the soup. Everything else was mostly greasy with the type of grease that sticks to your mouth. Since some of the food was not hot enough, you could really taste the grease. The noodles were cold and oily. The food is not labeled correctly, so unless you are very familiar with the dish it's a hit or miss. The dishes unfortunately had old rice stuck to them after the wash. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to ruin the experience for the person that went with me. But hygiene is a major concern at this place. It was a few plates that I saw with crusted food that had survived the wash. The coffee was hot, but they only give you 2 creams even if you ask for more. So unless you like your coffee very light cream, this cup of coffee won't do it. Finally the dessert. I thought the dessert would compensate for the baldy cooked food, but unfortunately, the desserts were also lacking. Got the egg custard and it tasted more like egg than anything else. Very disappointing. I don't like to give bad reviews because I know how hard it is for small business to get a bad review. But I am doing this for the customers wondering whether to spend their money at China Star or not. In my humble opinion, if you like Chinese food ( as do I), this is not the place. You will be highly disappointed.

Kris O.

Yelp
Food is horrible!!! Also large loud fight broke out while my husband and I were there . Place is dirty . Please do not waste your money. Plates and silverware are dirty. Should be shut down.

Rainier C.

Yelp
Also known to our family as "Kevin's". China Star is a buffet restaurant that has a lot of good selection, very affordable and the kicker is ... weekend oysters!! I am a great fan of oysters. Kevin, the owner, is very hospitable and accommodating. Aside from the servers checking on the guests, he himself goes around and checks on them. The buffet has a lot of good selections. They occasionally have crabs and crawfish which are excellent. I always love their chicken wings and soups and clams. The sushi rolls are average but lately they have added veggie tempuras. I wish they'd add shrimp tempuras also. But no matter they always have cold and hot crispy shrimp. Would I come back here? Always!! Would I recommend this place? Most definitely. Too bad I don't have photos. I am too busy eating. Update: April 24, 2022 We went back at China Star, aka Kevin's, today. Treatment was the same 5star service. And mind you, today was packed!! Most of the tables are full and was quickly being filled as soon as a customer leaves. The refilling of the food trays are as quickly as they are emptied out. However the dishes are still delicious and quality are maintained. I missed out on my favorite clams but I still enjoyed everything on my plate. This time I took pictures. The pictures did not do justice, and there were more that I was not able to take pictures of. We chatted with Kevin a little and he was still his old caring self. Everyone in his staff are still one of the best in Las Vegas.

PapaPeat_64 P.

Yelp
Would recommend I had no issues. Would come back with family or friends. Good service. The food was great, and the ambiance does feel like China.

Lauren M.

Yelp
Actually not a bad buffet place for the price. We paid under $50 for a family of 3 with drinks included in the price. Location & Parking: This plaza is pretty big so there's a lot of parking. Atmosphere & Ambience: Spacious area, however, waiting area is pretty small, especially if you have a big party waiting for a table. Service: The workers here are good, and there's always someone checking in on you. Food & Drinks: They have a lot of food to choose from including sushi, oysters, crab legs, shrimp, dim sum, different kinds of soup, fried chicken and even chicken nuggets! The food is always hot and freshly cooked, however some of the dim sum are a little over cooked because they've been steaming for too long. The taste and quality isn't the same as some other Chinese restaurants, but then again, those Chinese restaurants aren't a buffet and cost way more. Overall Experience: 3.5/5

Kyleigh D.

Yelp
Horrible!!! There was dirt and food on the walls!!! The food was also cold!!! There service sucks!! Every thing tastes like frozen food. It also smelled like roaches.

Norman P.

Yelp
I love Chinese food, all good especially seafood , clams , etc great service recommended by friend. Now taking others to my recent find.

Lois B.

Yelp
We came here as a group of 6 for lunch after church on Easter Sunday and as expected, the restaurant was packed. I appreciated that there were plenty of food choices available, including many options for our pickier eaters. The buffet was kept stocked and the food was kept hot. Servers and staff did a wonderful job keeping tables clean and glasses full. Will be back!

Jimmy L.

Yelp
The food is really good with this price. The shrimp is outstanding and they refill their food pretty fast.

Chuck T.

Yelp
Ok, keep in mind this a buffet. So there are many different items to choose from. That's where the problems start. The biggest problem is keeping all that food hot. Steamer tables never seem keep things hot, they only keep things warm at best. Food is continually being brought out from the kitchen, but they can't keep up. Next is the seasonings or lack of seasoning used. Being a buffet, many people come through and not every taste bud is satisfied. I'm sure the food is satisfactory to some, I'm just not a fan.

Thomas R.

Yelp
Looks like the male manager is not here. Usually here evenings. I'm very upset here with my family. We always come here for the good food and service. But somehow because the tips seem to be crappy with this one server who sucks. I. Watching him. No refills. Sits there at his station. Yes he does check to see that you don't dine and dash which is fine. But he is not a great server at all. Seems very upset in his tone of voice when cleaning a table. Due to low tipper or no tip at all. The other server a female was on top of her tables. Talking care of her customers. Great attitude. Wish she was out waitress

Mike P.

Yelp
Food is good, price is fix not expensive. I think it is good for anyone love Asian buffet. Just come and try.

Tonia L.

Yelp
This place is dirty. Disgusting. I give them no stars. It is substandard. Egg foo young was burnt. I will never come back here again. Lastly the service is bad. I got a drink with something floating in it so they brought me another drink but this time they put it in a glass that wasn't clear, as if they don't want me to see through it and find something.

C. L. W.

Yelp
I have ate here a 100 times...great food and staff...clean...can't beat the price...food is kept warm and stocked

Becky L.

Yelp
The place was clean and the food was hot and delicious!.l The server was very nice and kept our drinks fresh. Will be back!

Angelica G.

Yelp
Good service ! People are nice there , especially the owner . He treats us like VIP's The food is delicious and fresh . The only buffet style restaurant near my home . We go almost every week . I bring my family when they visit me from California. They love it too !

Ruby S.

Yelp
5 PM on a Saturday evening. 1-14-23 Was here for a large group gathering. My rellies chose this place for a reception spot for our Holiday event. Nothing jumped out as a "must have" or "different/better than any other Chinese buffet". The floor was oily; be careful not to slip! I hear the malasada's/sugar donuts were good!

Lourdes V.

Yelp
Clean, nice, good selection, cozy cute lil place. Would recommend to any of my homies in vegas and my homies visiting from socal:) The staff is very kind and always made sure to provide refills for us. The quality of the food is bomb as fuck :)

Antonio T.

Yelp
Been going here for years, great staff. Manager is a nice man and always ready to have a friendly conversation. Food is pretty good, about what you can expect for the price, I've been coming for about 12 years and I'll continue to show up

Marcus S.

Yelp
this place gon do it everytime im on a budget pretty good food nice options great customer service

Stephanie D.

Yelp
The food was ice cold. A lot of the food looked and tasted disgusting. I only had a few bites of food on one plate because I couldn't eat anymore, the food was making me sick and not feel well. The place not clean, especially the bathroom, it was very dirty and disgusting, after leaving a felt I needed a tenuous shot that's how bad the bathroom was. The Health department should inspect this place and shut it down, with how sick I got from only eating a few bites of food. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!!!! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND SAVE YOUR MONEY AND DONT EAT AT CHINA STAR!! They are not a star and they don't deserve any stars!

Daniel R.

Yelp
It's very delicious, it has a lot of different chinese foods, and I really really love Fried Chicken Wings, it's super super delicious, and even some spicy soup as well. I went there since when I was a little kid.

Randy M.

Yelp
Took my kids here definitely felt the stares but they didn't so that's all that matters right but the food was definitely not worth it truth be told I mean everything was cold I will say the crab ragú was great the fish was great but other then that save your money I spend $82.57 for disappointment this was the first time I ate out and really thought man I wish I grabbed McDonald's hopefully they get better I'll try again in 6 months but if they are still the same I'm definitely calling the BBB on them I didn't want to take pictures because it definitely wasn't worth the extra energy

Jayme T.

Yelp
The reviews are a mess lol. A lot of bad reviews that start with "I use to come get a lot and it was good"... but none of those have a good review at those times... some people only review to complain. Is is fancy? No, but I don't go to Chinese buffets for fancy. The staff isn't outgoing friendly, but we were greeted nicely, asked if we wanted table or booth, drink orders were right away, plates were picked up often, drinks were always full and she was very nice. The food was good, nothing to write home about, but nothing different than any other Chinese food diners. My personal fav was the pepper chicken and the Mongolian beef. Both flavorful and cooked well with lots of veggies. The spring rolls had good flavor but weren't too crispy. My husband loves the teriyaki chicken but really liked most everything. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the lo mein. The taste was fine but it was mushy :( The hubby said the wonton soup wasn't very flavorful. We'll be back. The food area was clean and they were always replacing the food. Hubby loved the soft serve ice cream.

David G.

Yelp
Not good... not even a little bit! There was a lot of buffet items, but this place is all about quantity over quality. Nothing was seasoned, and they don't tell you that getting a beverage is an additional cost with the buffet. The crab they had was cooked to death to the point the meat inside was completely gone! I will never go back here.

Jerry P.

Yelp
This is the Best kept secret in North Las Vegas on Craig Road. There today 3:15 PM. Busy and large parties. FOOD FRESH, Well cared for and replenished when needed. Each dish tasty, warm and presentation excellent. I am a clean nut and they kept cleaning as they serviced tables. Hard working and very friendly personal. Great Job We will be back soon. Just try it !!! Jerry P
