China Star

I visit many Chinese restaurants since I spend a lot of time in the field. This one was great. Lunch special was 13.06 out the doors for a Mongolian chicken which was very tasty. Came with sweet and sour soup, white rice and crab rangoon. Food was excellent for the price. I only one plate so far so other plates could prove me wrong on the food but I doubt it.

Great food and people. Chow Fun, Hong Kong style pan fry noodles and wonton soup are the best things there Love them

Service was amazing, but nothing special about food. Very little flavor. Would be nice if they served water without lemon, especially when asked.

Do not go here. I received fried prawns that were still gray on the inside and what appears to be a caterpillar in my chowmein. They definitely need to get their stuff together in regards to what goes on in their kitchen if they are going to be serving food to anybody. Even then, I cannot confidently order food from here and I feel that I have to warn anybody from going here. Your stomach and your health will thank you.

This was my go to for take-out for years or should I say was my go to. I decided to bring my family China star to sit down inside restaurant. Because of the bad hospitality of the angry, rude middle added man, we walked out after being ignored for over 7 mins. There was ONLY 1 table with 3 customers. We got up from our table and walked out. The man said nothing to us, just watched us walk out. Hopefully this rude man at China Star will get some hospitality training & manors. Great part of the day was I found May Garden on Fulton Rd. It was like walking into my grandma's home♥️ great lunch specials come with soup. See pics from China Star🌟 food was amazing!!

$8.95 for a tofu with veggie lunch special (mostly eaten!) is a great deal! Not too greasy and nice flavors on the veggie stir fry.

We love this family restaurant whet we can take the kids and feel welcome... and the food beats the others.

Ordered take out. Mongolian beef was very spicy (thumbs up), lemon chicken was small dark meat/no breast meat (thumbs down), fried rice and pot stickers were standard fare, lots of won tons in order. Hot mustard was very potent.

I ordered a small order of Hot and Sour soup and it was so damn good. Nice kick. Flavor was amazing. Staff were nice. I highly recommend if you get Hot and Sour soup.

Great place for takeout lunch specials. Quick service and a delicious meal at a fair price. Will definitely be back for more!!

Ordered takeout and got the Honey Walnut shrimp (10 out of 10 absolutely amazing), sauteed green beans (another 10 out of 10), and vegetable fried rice. Everything was made quickly and it was so good. Will be coming back.

I was craving Sizzling Rice Soup and decided to go to my go to Chinese restaurant since I can walk there. I was in shock that I received 1 shrimp chopped up, chicken breast, peas n carrots abc water chestnuts. I kid you not it was about a 1/4 cup of ingredients. I called the restaurant to complain and all I received was an I'm sorry. The flavor was amazing but too top it off the rice was burnt. Never coming back after 13 years of eating there

They use high quality meats and produce and the food is excellent. Nice ambiance and friendly service. Their lunch specials are very reasonably priced ed and delicious.

I haven't left a review for awhile, but l feel like l need to update my opinion of China Star Restaurant. This is my Go-To Chinese Place. The food is Always fresh and Hot. Once again, l feel that l should mention, the owner makes mine without the Gluten. If you are gluten intolerant then this is your place!!! I went for years not enjoying Chinese food with my family, but the great people here, made it possible. Love China Star!!!

Since Jessie left and someone else bought it... it's horrible. The food you can tell is frozen and their orange chicken is soggy and moist... gross

We used to LOVE this place! Have ordered take out many of times. But today was probably our last visit. Stopped in to do a takeout order. Food was ready in less then expected time. Perfect! Got home, food was ok, definitely didn't have the quality taste since our last visit. No fortune cookies added to order, eh ok then. But my one star rating is more for the prices. The online menu for ordering is NOT the same as what they charge. Perhaps they need to update the online menu to reflect the prices they are charging at checkout. Had I realized while I was paying, I would have mentioned it. However noticing after I got home, it's not worth my time or gas to go back and question it. Buyer beware!

Went to order online and there was a 60% tip + $1 'service charge' added. Sorry, that's just ridiculous.

Great noodles, rice, soup, and chicken dishes. It's sad to say but as the prices have risen so SO much, too much, and the quality has gone down, they have lost my business forever. Was my favorite go to Chinese restaurant but it's over now

Very disappointed with our last order. The prices have climbed tremendously in the past year. Sadly, our last order had flavorless house special egg foo young. The patty was completely flavorless and seemed strange in the mouth to be completely devoid of taste. The brown sauce was also near tasteless. $17 is a lot to pay for such a poor dish. We also had chicken chow mein which was so-so. Pretty absent of flavor, too. The wor won ton soup was ok but nothing to really write home about. Roughly 10 years ago we visited this restaurant and had won ton soup with broth that had the seasoning of water. We stopped going but tried it again a couple of years back before the prices sky rocketed. It was good. But now?? Did you hire back the old cook from ten years ago? I can't justify spending so much money for such poor quality food. I'm going to have to go somewhere else.

My lovely wife suddenly remembered that we hadn't ordered food from China Star in quite a while. Sheltering in place created the perfect excuse to change that -- and it was a change worth making. The pot stickers were paradoxically charred as if from work frying, yet soft and non-crunchy, even where charred. The filling was delicious, though. The crab cheese stars were perfectly fried, but light on crab and oddly a bit sweet. But the entrees? Yum. Salt and pepper pork chops? Flavorful, lean but not dry or stringy, and fried but not at all greasy. Tomato beef? Delicious, perfectly cooked meat combined with a wonderful sauce and fresh, ripe tomatoes. The egg fu yung? Light, fluffy, perfectly cooked eggs topped and surrounded by a great mix of barbecued pork, chicken, a few shrimp, and a gravy with both taste and texture. We plan to order delivery from China Star via Yelp again soon. You should, too.

I have been there several times and ordered delivery often. They are mostly take out but I have dined in before COVID. I always order the same things - hot and sour soup (the best in Santa Rosa in my opinion), fried rice and chow mein. They are always good and the portions are pretty good as well. I see people here complaining about the raise in prices. That is every where now people. Come on. Try the soup and chill.

Got three lunch specials delivered and everything was hot, fresh, and delicious. The sesame beef was even all still crispy after delivery.

Ordered take out, specified no onions, got home loaded with onions. Spoke to the owner who denied hearing no onions. End of discussion. Very poor customer service will never go back.

Good food, fast service and reasonable prices. Ordering online and then coming to pickup was very convenient.

I must say how much that I didn't like either item The "lemon chicken " was hard to chew and flavorless. As for the pineapple fried rice. Absolute no flavor &the Horrible pieces of chicken I read the reviews and lots of people like it. So I was disappointed that my order was really bad

My boufriend was in a car crash, and they took a pickup order at the last second before closing time. Everything was excellent, hot and fresh. We really needed it, thank you!

Food has been okay the few times I've ate here. I ordered from here through doordash and found a sharp piece of plastic in my food. Never ordering from here again.

Stopped in for my first time today with my wife who has been there a few times before, OMG, I can't believe how good this place is, so fresh and flavorful and the prawns were cooked two perfection. I wish we had a restaurant half as good where we live. Don't be put off by the bad reviews, I am a very picky food critic and I know Great cuisine when I taste it. Enjoy!!!

I have absolutley loved everything I've eaten from here Their mushu pork is great, I also have gotten their bbq pork fried rice, their onion beef, broccoli beef, and wor won ton soup. Always very nice service too

I just moved into the neighborhood directly behind this place. I went in tonight to order some take out and was greeted by two sweet women who took my order even though they were very busy .. they were so nice. I got the kung pao chicken dinner and they even let me switch the hot and sour to wonton soup.. yay. Everything was soooo delicious .. best food I've had in awhile. She even brought me water and an appetizer while I waited. She also threw another appetizer in with my meal .. yum! This is the only place I will go from now on for Szechuan cuisine ... yummm 10 stars! Excellent service.. food and I can't wait to try more items on the menu :) the food was definitely enough for two people

Even with high food costs they have kept their prices very reasonable. The War Wonton Soup is amazing! I will be back to try more dishes. Great service, very friend and fast!

I was surprised and disappointed that entrees don't come with rice. The General Tsao chicken was good but I was really looking forward to having it with rice. I don't recommend having it delivered either. Between China Star's delivery fee and other tacked on fees, I spent $25 on a small box of chicken. Really not worth that.

These was the worst Chinese food I've ever had. Ridiculously expensive for the poor quality food they serve. I don't think I got more than one nibble of actual pork in the sweet and sour pork. It was all hard fried breading doused in sauce. The fried rice was almost identical to regular rice. Everything else was equally disappointing and honestly just gross. $70 down the toilet.

I want so badly to love this place! (I've made this mistake 3+ times) the food shows up looking three days leftover in the refrigerator that's been left uncovered. Not to mention the complimentary stars that I secretly love to hate show up in a ceramic wrap that I'm fairly certain my driver snacked down a few. If you love guilty pleasure and wasting your money- go at it!

Ordered food to be delivered Door Dash. After living in Santa Rosa over 30 years, I couldn't believe we missed this place. Great Mushu pork, crab stars and Prawns! The menu is amazing, great selection. Truly something for everyone. We are going back for a second time. Yum!

No disrespect intended, but this was the absolute WORST Chinese food I have ever had. EVER! I was expecting good food based off the reviews, but I was just happy not to have gotten sick. The entire order had this underlying smell of foul fowl. I literally only took one bite of a potsticker and could eat no more. My dog wouldn't even touch it. Upon closer inspection the chicken in my dinner was all pink. Would like to have left 0 stars

Update regarding the restaurant's delivery: We normally use Door Dash but in the last order there was a card that said China Star delivers for free, so we tried it. From ordering over the phone to receiving the order at our door was 1 hour 45 minutes and the food was lukewarm. I called in at the hour mark to be sure they had our order and the gal who answered said they had our order and were waiting for their delivery driver to come back. With Door Dash our food comes between 30-45 minutes and is always hot.

Excellent - service was spot on, the food was delicious, and the place has a lot of ambience compared to most every other Chinese restaurant. Also the prices were great. We split some egg rolls, light and crispy (not oily) had a nice crunch with fresh veggies inside. I had the won ton soup which had 2 dumplings and flavorful broth and scallions. My friend had the sweet and sour or hot & sour soup which was better than what I've had before. My entrée was beef and broccoli - the meat was quite tender and the broccoli was cooked perfectly. They asked if I wanted spicy or mild, I chose spicy and it was slightly spicy for me. Everyone has a different range of what they think it is hot - it was perfect. My buddy tasted it and thought it was *Firey*! He had the Orange Chicken which he liked very much with sides of Chow Mein and Fried Rice - both excellent. They also deliver - big surprise to have good Chinese food delivered. The staff was Super Kind and Gracious. Truly impressed. We were also treated to a Chinese New Year Lion Dance - one of the awesome ladies that coordinated the meal (Nancy) had some young people do it and it was a real treat!!

Didn't even know this place existed. It's in a random little shopping center off Marlow road. They have fantastic egg flower soup and I ask for crispy rice on the side and they get it perfect every time. They used to have a dinner special which was delicious but they unfortunately don't do individual dinners. That's the only reason for four stars instead of five.

We got delivery tonight, and it was right on time! Pot stickers, chicken chow mein, sweet and sour pork, and broccoli beef. All delicious and hot! Just a problem with delivery is not getting crispy pot stickers, but we'll have to try it again in the restaurant!

This place was SO delicious! We are so happy to find a great Chinese restaurant (one you can actually sit down and eat at!) The service was actually very good and friendly. They seem to do a great take-out biz too. We had the hot and sour soup, it was top notch. We also had the moo shi pork and a clay pot dish. Both were super yummy. Price is right too. We'll definitely be coming back. Gong Xi Fa Cai!!

This place is awesome. Such good food and they deliver fast. It's definitely one of my new favorite takeout spots!!

Two thumbs up for a great lunch special over here at China Star! For the inexpensive price of $10, you can select two lunch sides (ie: orange chicken, cashew shrimp, prawns with sauce, broccoli & beef and etc) and they are accompanied by a small appetizer, hot & sour soup and rice/chow mein. My friend Will says the orange chicken was some of the best he's had. The exterior texture was crispy and flavorful. Everything else tasted delicious and we had no complaints about our food. China Star serves some of the better-tasting Americanized Chinese food around the Santa Rosa area. The food wasn't plastered with MSG and sits lightly on your stomach. The service by the owner is top-notch and there's something especially soothing about eating chinese food and listening to KZST in the background...

Always loved this place. It was different last night. For one...Jessie wasn't there...made me think maybe it got bought out. The garlic chicken was awful. It smelled like fish....I detest seafood. I will try it again, but it's gonna take me a long time to re-coup unfortunately. I have a super wobbly stomach to start with, but if I know Jessie is still there I will try again.

My family has been eating here for over 20 years. They have always had the best Chinese food hands down. When my kids were little they developed a pallet for Chinese food from this very place. We would get their food all the time with my parents. We moved away for 18 years and when my son moved back he immediately found his very favorite place. Once my daughter found it she started going there every week for lunch. Then we moved back and are regulars yet again. This little family owned restaurant has become more a part of our families history than they will ever know. It's been a part of three generations in my family.

I love this place! Food is fresh and delicious, also the service is excellent. This is my second time here! The owner is super sweet! I ordered crab Star, which is a bomb! Cream cheesecake in side, Sweet and crispy...I also order Mongolian beef and orange chicken. They both are yummy. And their honey walnut prawn is a must!!! I love the sauce they put on. It taste so good, and It is different from other place, they used fresh pineapples.

Friendly service and clean. Food wasn't great. They use cooked frozen shrimp in their shrimp stir fry which was really dry, tough and tasteless. Rice and chow mien was just ok

I scoffed at this place, I'll be honest. It is in a strip mall that is pretty dicey, but I gotta say the restaurant is clean inside and the wait staff is super friendly. They give crab wontons to nosh on while you wait which if you are starving is kinda nice. With the photos on the walls, the tastey bites to tide you over, this is a place that stimulates you while you wait for your order. We tried a few items; broccoli beef, pork fried rice, kung pao chicken and shrimp egg rolls. I think the most disappointing thing was the broccoli beef, it has various veggies in it like baby corn, water chestnuts and carrots. I am a purist-just broccoli and beef please. I think it is a worthy place but just don't go in with crazy high expectations, it is better than average but not amazing.

I was pleasantly surprised! I used to go here many moons ago and remembered it not being that good. I took a chance and tried it again after reading the more recent reviews of new ownership. The lunch plate did not disappoint! The chow mein and shredded pork in a garlic sauce was delicious, not too salty and just the right amount of spice. The price is on point for other Chinese restaurants in the area! I look forward to coming back and trying more yummy food
