This no-frills counter spot has been a south-side standby for orange chicken, General Tso’s, and pan‑fried dumplings. Recognized by the city’s visitors bureau and buoyed by steady local praise, it remains a go-to for classic American‑Chinese comfort.

I like the wings but I hate the service. When calling to place an order they can’t even understand what you are saying. Then the order is always wrong some how. We live 30 minutes away and it’s very frustrating when you get the wrong items and don’t find out until you get home. You ask them to put ketchup on fries and instead they give you packets. The ketchup does way better when the fries are hot and right out of the grease. They need to accommodate their customers liking.

Google
The absolute BEST Chinese food ever!!! This place is a hole in the wall and sketchy looking, which surprisingly, usually turns out to be the best food around. You may find homeless people hanging around at any given time. You may still question your choice of dining as you arrive and walk in the door. They do have a health score rating of 90 which made be feel better. People listen to me, if you want the best Chinese food around, this IS the place. You can watch them cook the food as you wait. 5 Stars!!!! Quality with delicious flavors. Im very picky about my Chinese food and I promise you, no complaints here and I highly recommend!!

Google
China Taste has become my second home over the past three months, all thanks to a happy accident involving pizza that led me to their incredible menu. While portion sizes may vary slightly, the value here always exceeds expectations, making every meal a delightful surprise. What really sets this place apart is the genuine warmth of the Chinese lady and chefs. From the moment you step through the door, you're welcomed like family, and that feeling only grows with each visit. It's not just about the food; it's about the connections made and the sense of belonging. Leaving a tip feels like a small gesture, but knowing it might bring a smile to their faces makes it all worth it. China Taste isn't just a restaurant—it's a comforting sanctuary where good food and heartfelt hospitality come together to create unforgettable experiences.

Google
The food lacked luster it was swimming in old oil, there is little to no parking, no seats for dine in, all could be excused but for 30$ for 3 this is fairly good for the price, however you could get this elsewhere but with better quality food. Genuine review of this place is a 4/10 just way better options for your time and money. A serious reflection of this store is needed.

Google
Wow people say the food here sucks and portions is small must just have order garbage! I ordered general tso chicken and fried rice! tasted amazing yes parking does suck but they can’t control that! And those workers are hard workers! I’m going to defiantly come back!!

Google
We purchased 3 meals and hot and sour soup. Soup was great, chicken dish was wonderful. The other two dishes were ordered with garlic sauce. NO garlic, very bland.

Google
I don't know what happened to the old owners that use to own this place but I called them and told them the food wasn't made the way I wanted( basically it wasn't good to salty) and over the phone it wasn't a problem but when I got there they literally tried to argue with me about it. I wont be back Moral of this, if a person doesn't like your food you can't make a person eat it. Natalie Strickland, which they knew this review was coming

Google
It took me 8 years to discover this place. I had just about given up on the idea of a proper Chinese take out place and I am so glad I finally found this one. It’s not much to look at but the General Tso’s is great and they actually have pieces of pork in the fried rice served with the combination dinners.

Yelp
Hands down best to go chinese food! The hot n spicy wontons are something to try for sure! Thanks for satisfying my taste buds!

Yelp
Everything is good again. The new owners worked out the kinks and it tastes like old China Taste. Still a regular customer and enjoying it, figured it was worth updating. The soup broth is hit and miss at times.

Yelp
China Taste must have changed their management. I have been eating here since 2013. Would drive from harvest alabama for their food. The food is AWFUL now. I don't see normal people in there now. The rice actually tastes like plastic.
google avatar

Raymond S.

Yelp
Carryout only with standard Chinese entrees. So ambience no relevant. Service was quick. First time there. A colleague recommended it. Had the mu shu pork. It was very good. Will definitely go again when in Huntsville.

Yelp
The food I ordered was great which was general tso chicken with house fried rice and fresh as well . The service was great and didn't have a long wait time.

Yelp
China taste is awesome. Sad the ribs are only available Wednesdays and Friday but the rest of the menu is awesome too

Ursula R.

Yelp
I have been eating here for over 15 years, and I think they serve they best Chinese food in Huntsville. My Husband usually gets General Tso's chicken and fried rice and LOVES it!! I have ordered quite a few different things that have all been excellent, but what stands out for me is the pork lo mein, steamed dumplings, egg drop soup, and the Hunan beef is stupid good. I never had to wait more than 10 minutes for my order, and you can call ahead for pick up. The staff is very friendly and efficient and not once was my order incorrect. It is take out only, but for me it's a huge treat!!

Yelp
First off -- my wife and i are nice and reasonable people who would never maliciously seek to soil the name of any establishment. But it has to be said -- this place was absolutely horrible. The chicken had a weird texture highlighted by a smokey burnt taste indicative of frying multiple things in the same, old polluted grease. It also permeated the rice and the egg rolls. In my 45 years, this has been without a doubt the worst Chinese food i have EVER had. Would NOT recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this little hole in the wall. It's has amazing food..it's always good and cooked fresh. Its the only place I get general tsos chicken. Always have generous portions always feeds me for lunch and dinner. Prices are good. Give them a try its so worth it.

Yelp
I have been looking for a good fried chicken wing since golden star left. Golden star in the five points are used to have the best fried chicken wings and rice. I finally found a place similar. Maybe they know each other. I prefer my general tso and sesame chicken to be a little sweeter because it's a little shy on the sweetness here. But the fried chicken wings is my go to here.

Monica U.

Yelp
China Taste Huntsville,Al has went down you pay for extra shrimp and get the same amount as regular they have changed everything even the eggrolls nothing is the same was a very loyal customer i will never go back again

Yelp
Been going there for years. Was the best 25 years ago and still great! They have authentic Chinese food. Served Hot & Quick. Egg Foo Young and Moo shy are my personal favorites. Never had a bad experience

Kelsey M.

Yelp
Anybody with a tongue would despise this place. Firstly, the wontons soup had an entire box of salt dumped in it. Secondly, the sesame chicken was jerky, completely dry, and made my mouth feel like cotton. The only redeemable quality of the food was the egg roll, which was the size of something flaccid. All in all, could've at least added a fortune cookie. Worst food experience in the city of Huntsville.

S R.

Yelp
We have eaten from China Taste many times. We love the taste, quality and portions of the dishes. When eating from a restaurant I look for value and China Taste is certainly value. The service is very friendly and efficient. They offer what we know as standard Chinese dishes and alternatives such as chicken wings. I have yet to try a dish and not be well pleased.

Yelp
Local hole in the wall Chinese takeout place Famous and delicious Been in same location for 25+ years

Logan J.

Yelp
Sketchy location, but never fails to deliver the best quality - and in good time too. Quite possibly the best Chinese in town. Prices are great because you will always have leftovers.

Yelp
Delicious Chinese food in Huntsville? YES. Today we went to China Taste. The interior is a dive. You walk in the door and wonder if you want to eat anything from this restaurant. Plexiglass greets you with signs saying wear a mask and social distance. I ordered won ton soup, egg drop soup, Moo Goo Gai Pan, Egg Foo Yung, and Chicken Lo Mein. All of the food was delicious!!! It's been a while since I have eaten here. I truly forgot how good the food is. You need to try this restaurant. It really is very very good.

Yelp
Reminds me slightly of my hood carry outs back in Baltimore. No where near as good but for Alabama they tried . Janky location with quick decent food that's hot and prices are reasonable. I'd come back for a quick fix.

Tiffany W.

Yelp
The prices were reasonable and the older gentleman that took my order was sweet. I was not impressed by the food. I ordered chicken fried rice and cheese wontons. I didn't like the way my chicken looked!! The chicken was dark.... I've never seen chicken that dark... I ended up throwing everything in the garbage.

Barbara R.

Yelp
First time ordered here and was really impress by the taste for a takeout order place.

Yelp
Really good food and a super nice lady that runs this. Highly recommend. Will eat here again.

Yelp
This is a total dive, and it's totally the best Chinese food in Huntsville. Add the entertainment factor and it's a Best of Huntsville and Cheap Eats star. The prices are terrific, the portions large, the food very hot right out of the wok and very fresh. Most lunch specials are under $5.00 and include fried rice and choice of eggroll or soup. Everything I've had has been superb; my go-to lunch choice is the broccoli in garlic cause with hot and sour soup. $4.60! With tax is $5.01. Can you even get a Big Mac for 5 bucks? Why would you even want one when you can have a super fresh meal at China Taste prepared to order? Take a look at my photo and see how GOOD this looks. The best part? Its tastes even better! Superb flavor of garlic and red pepper - perfection. The place does a booming carry-out business, so it helps to call ahead to get your order in the queue. Tip: The order taker, in person and on the phone, doesn't speak. He grunts and chirps. Don't let that be a concern, however, because he is spot on amazing and will understand and get your order correct. Just tell him what you want and he'll take it from there. Look at the cash register for your total. On the phone, he'll make a noise to let you know he got your order, then he'll hang up. Go with it. A fun thing to while you sit (or stand because it's crowded) to wait for your food to be prepared is to people watch, both the people in the kitchen and the customers. The kitchen staff, which consists of 2 chefs, 1 appetizer attendant and Jill-of-all-trades, and the order taker, are phenomenal examples of efficiency. I could watch them for hours and enjoy every minute. They rush each order back and forth, they make no eye contact with each other, they don't speak, they don't take breaks, they work at 100% warp speed at all times. Wow. You don't see that very often, do you? Give it a try during lunch one day; you'll enjoy the show. The customers are also fun, in that we all know it'll take a while for our orders to be ready, because they're so busy, and we all know it's worth the wait. So we sit in the chairs that face the kitchen and enjoy the show, and comment to each other about it, as well as just chit chat about daily events and life in general. It's a sort of social gathering. When you go to China Taste, be prepared to make a new friend while you wait.

Yelp
Everything a Chinese Take-away should be! Really greasy and filthy restaurant, proudly displaying a Restaurant Health Score of 86!. WIth a toilet that looks like a back alley, and tables so greasy that you slide on. Fantastic. Great tasting food for about $4-5. I tried the General Tso's Chicken for lunch, pretty tasty!! Hot and sour soup (which comes with lunch) was a little gloopy. Really hard to find, tucked behind Caesar's Pizza. I will definitely come back and try their other dishes.

Yelp
The 5 stars speaks for itself. If not, it should be noted that after being introduced to China Taste, I get take out from there almost once a week. Admittedly, I am fairly new to the Chinese food group, but everything I have tried has been nothing short of excellent. My favorites include: General Tso's, hot & spicy wontons, spicy lo mein (don't forget to ask for the spicy), cheese wontons, sweet & sour chicken/pork, and pork moo shu. Everything is made fresh to order, so expect a moderate wait time, and the prices can't be beat. I have yet to dine in-store but hope to at least once.

Yelp
Food was great but I feel like the lady that works there is racist I went to place my order for my food I handed her my card in her hand when she was giving me my card back she threw it on the counter instead of handing it back to me I thought I was tripping until this white guy behind me I saw her place his card in his hand and I was on the phone with my friends who are also P.O.C and they had they same experience I had with this lady I rather the owner take my order he has never down that to me

Yelp
First time coming to this restaurant because of their good Yelp review, however it's a letdown. I had order 6 entrees yet only two dish met my expectations. Wanted to tried their orange beef somehow they ran out and was suggested to get orange chicken instead. I also wanted to try a mushu pork and was told they ran out of that dish as well. I ended up with the suggested orange chicken, shrimp egg foo young, bbq pork egg foo young, happy family add spice, four seasons, and a combination fried rice. Only the shrimp egg foo young and the four season dishes came out on par, the bbq pork egg foo young had barely any meat and the orange chicken was more than 50% fried batter. And they forgot the spice in the happy family. The combination fried rice was soggy and blah! It's not much difference than the plain fried rice that came with the entrees, due to the lack of protein ingredients. So why did I pay extra?

J M.

Yelp
China Taste. A taste of China... in a hole in the (great) wall in Huntsville. Although, I strongly agree with the high ratings and reviews because those have been my experiences too. The wife and I had the pleasure of eating the Moo Shoo Pork and Kung Pao Chicken with fried rice. It was awesome and plenty of it. I'm sure it was MSG laced, but the flavors are very good (top notch) and the prices are the best in town. Give it shot!
google avatar

Yelp
In town on business and was looking for a Chinese restaurant that I could grab a quick bite for lunch. Do not let the outside of the building fool you, it is very off putting but the food isn't a reflection of the outside appearance. My veggie lo mein was delicious I just wish there were a few more vegetables in it. Very fair prices. 4.5/5

Yelp
While not known for exceptional Chinese food, Huntsville has one badass hole in the wall place called China Taste. Years ago I started coming here for their ridiculous General Tsos Chicken as a broke college student, but money didn't matter. They were closed on Sundays, the really nice dude who works there can barely speak, they accepted cash only, but those were moot points as their food is amazing and comes in large quantities, and their prices are low. Now, years later, it's the same awesome food, prices have only gone up a fraction of a dollar, and they accept credit cards. Go here.

Yelp
Honestly...really disappointed. I read all the rave reviews of this place and couldn't wait to try it. I love dives, so I was especially excited. Other reviewers expressed disappointment with the service, but I thought it was fine. Friendly, pleasant, and fast. The location is a little dirty and the neighborhood is a little sketchy after dark, but it wasn't bad, especially going with a friend. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing, but my food wasn't good, and my boyfriend's wasn't much better. I had chicken fried rice. The rice was flavorless and kind of gummy, and it didn't taste fried. I liked the addition of the peas and a few other veggies to the mix, but the chicken tasted strange. It was made up of very small chunks, much of which was dark meat--which I do not like. It was a weird consistency and had very little flavor, almost...canned tasting? I have no idea. Boyfriend had sweet and sour chicken, and it was not what we expected. A box of fried chicken pieces (not fried like KFC/crispy, but almost the texture of a doughnut hole) and a big bowl of sweet and sour sauce was delivered to us. It tasted alright, but wasn't a home run. The highlight of the meal was the egg drop soup. It was tasty, had a strong eggy flavor but was not overwhelming. Plus, you could order crispy wonton strips for .25 cents more to top, which is a must-have. On the whole, the prices are great and the service is good, but for me, the food did not deliver what the reviews led me to expect. Oh well. I may be back to try again, in case I picked the wrong thing. Can't beat 6.25 for a meal, soup, and an egg roll lunch special.

Yelp
I've been eating here since I was in the 6th grade. Greasy, cheap, hole in the wall Chinese food that is awesome. Call ahead and the dude grunts and somehow everything takes only 20 minutes (sometimes longer but he'll still say 20 minutes and that'll be the only grunt you can understand). You show up and he points at you and you go home with good food. Some of my favorite items are the lo mein noodles, curry dishes, and chicken with broccoli.
google avatar

Mike D.

Yelp
My favorite Chinese food. Great food consistent great service great ppl hands down best Chinese restaurant. I order Mongolian Beef or chicken. It's amazing. I also ask extra spicy. Fire it. Up. Yum

Yelp
I had to find another Chinese restaurant. We've been going to a different since moving to Huntsville five years ago. The food was good at first but has become almost inedible. Then we "found" China Taste. Really. You're gonna have to look for it. This place is great. Well maybe not the actual physical place but the food is great. The only bad review that I've read concentrated on the staff as being unfriendly. Poo. Maybe they won't kiss your azz but they are plenty friendly. I found it kinda funny dealing with the language "barrier". But unfriendly....no. And did I mention the food is Great! I will add that the first time there we went to eat in. Maybe not such a good idea. That's not their core business and they probably don't make enough effort to make it so. I can deal with that. Besides....Chinese is suppose to be take out...isn't it?
google avatar

Zee M.

Yelp
Such a simple, unprepossessing location, but the food is ever delish. My biggest recommendation here is the Hot and Sour Soup. That may seem odd, but if you're in a hurry or of limited funds, you'll be glad you got it. ESPECIALLY GOOD during cold season. I've successfully recommended it to others and have successfully recommended others bring it to me when I'm bed ridden. Not sure if it's the pepper, vinegar, or what...but it is comfort food for the weary. (However, if you're there nearing closing time, they are ALWAYS OUT. Once, when the main dude was gone, the lady running the place had them make me some up, but not with this guy.) I don't know that I would recommend any particular dish here over another, as I've never had a bad one. Staples like Beef and Broccoli, this or that Meat with this or that Nut, and Egg Rolls are fresh (you can watch them cook your food, if you're patient), but I really go for the Seafood selections. The Seafood Combination is a case in point, with Shrimp, Scallop, Crab Meat, Lobster... Their range is Cantonese, Szechuan, and Hunan and the menu's rather extensive. They offer combo specials on the print menu and on a board near the front counter, which stays pretty busy. There is a sit-down area, if you're so disposed. It's not at all fancy and if you're one to grade a restaurant on that, better look elsewhere. But it's clean enough, just basic. The restrooms are of poor gas station grade. Careful as it starts getting dark. It's not overrun, but the alms-seekers make you feel "Les Miz" must be playing nearby. Still, it's not a tough neighborhood. Just be aware in the evening.

Yelp
Don't let your eyes deceive you this is good Chinese for pickup and delivery. If they ever move locations they might go up a notch but their tastiness and prices deserves a high score.
google avatar

CJ L.

Yelp
This is our regular take-out spot for Chinese...and every visit is as great as the last! The same guy as been working the front counter for at least 10 years and always treats us like old friends. They make the best fried rice, cheese won-tons and egg rolls anywhere! The only downside is that he runs out of some things from time to time.

Rayneshia W.

Yelp
Decent Chinese food but ORDER AT YOUR OWN RISK. This is definitely a great hole in the wall spot but man their food prep is seriously not to code. Last time I went they had a mountain of RAW CHICKEN placed out on a table for all to see and it was stacked against a very dirty wall with visible BROWN STAINS. They keep the back door open so you can imagine the bugs that come in. As much as I like their food that was disgusting.

Kayla P.

Yelp
My favorite Chinese place in Huntsville thus far! I ordered sesame chicken, Mongolian beef, beef lo mein, pork lo mein, fried dumplings, and crab Rangoon. Everything was delicious and even my picky eater of a fiancé devoured his beef lo mein. We split the sesame chicken and I had some of his Mongolian beef which tasted more like chicken. Only dig on my end was with the Mongolian beef, wayyyy too many veggies and not nearly enough meat. Other than that, everything was perfect. I will definitely be ordering from her again!
google avatar

Robert V.

Yelp
I would not recommend this place. There really is no eat in option, yes they have tables but zero customer service. The Health inspectors in Huntsville must be on strike for.....ever. The food was extremely lack luster overall. The fried rice was a weird orange color. Spouse said "it was a lot of food for the price..." And that was it. $45 later, I will not be back. :(
google avatar

Ben B.

Yelp
Always good food here. They cook every order while you wait & it is worth it. Been a customer 20 yrs. Recommend Schezwan chicken with egg drop soup.
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
So I was in town and looking for a place to eat when I came across this place. It's kind of a hole-in-the-wall and the area around it looks a little sketchy. This place is a total dive! But has awesome food! I ordered the beef fried rice (small), beef and broccoli (small), and the spicy wontons. It took a little while to get the order filled, but nothing out of the ordinary considering everything was made once it was ordered. If your looking for a place to pick up good, inexpensive and plentiful portions this is the place. I don't like to use the term "cheap" when the items tasted as good as this.

Zach C.

Yelp
Very surprised at the other reviews raving. The wontons were soggy and soft from grease with a very bad flavor. The crispy sesame chicken had a thick gel like coating. All seemed like it had been cooked a few days prior and then reheated in a microwave. Don't think I can give this one a second chance.

Syreeta M.

Yelp
I got the veggie lo mein but the only veggies in it were a sparse amount of onions. I probably could've gotten over the dry noodles, but I had to wait in the lobby so I saw their terribly unclean habits. One guy was taking orders and immediately going to the rice pot and dipping out food without washing his hands. There were a lot of health codes being violated honestly. I ended up getting a refund for my order. My husband has gotten us food from here before and the orange chicken is pretty good but just being able to see what they really do was flat out a no from me
google avatar

Theresa H.

Yelp
I heard from everyone at work that this was the best Chinese in town, which is what my boyfriend and I have been searching for since we moved here, with no luck. So we gave it a shot. I ordered smalls of the beef and broccoli and the chicken lo mein. He got general tso. We also got cheese wontons and fried dumplings. Mine was OK. The beef in the beef and brocoli was weird. I've only had tofu once but the beef had the texture of thinly sliced tofu, or super soggy cardboard. I wasn't a fan. The flavor was OK. Peppery. I've had better. I wouldn't get it again. The lo mein was not that great. It kind of had a fishy taste and again the meat was super thin and weird. I'm thinking maybe I just don't like lo mein anymore because the last few times I've ordered it from anywhere I've been disappointed. The cheese wontons were good. The dumplings were not. The meat was like a salty sausage meatball. And the dumpling part was really thick and super doughy for being fried. My boyfriend said the general tso was gross. So to sum it up, the cheese wontons were the best thing we had out of $30 worth of food. This was what i chose for my birthday dinner instead of going out to a restaurant because I thought Chinese and a movie at home would be fun. I'm wishing I just would have gone to a restaurant. Or made my own food at home. Blah. I'll never find Chinese food I like down here.
google avatar

Leonard W.

Yelp
Super nice people. Great food. Glad I stopped. Quick and easy to get to from work!! I will make this my go to place for Chinese!!
google avatar

Heather R.

Yelp
Lo mein, general tso's, wonton egg drop soup, spicy wontons, sweet and sour chicken I could go on but these are my favorites. I've frequented here for years and I've never been disappointed. The portions are sizable and the prices are great...especially the lunch deals. Call in your order for quick pick up!
google avatar

Wanda J.

Yelp
This is the best Americanized Chinese food I've ever had in my life. I love this place. My parents ordered cashew chicken from this place when it first opened years ago, and we've been hooked ever since. My favorite dishes are the shrimp lo mein (best lo mein ever), garlic shrimp, beef and broccoli, chicken and mixed veggies, etc. I haven't been disappointed with anything yet. The food is so flavorful and perfectly cooked. The lunch specials are the best. I don't know what they are now, but they used to be around $4 for rice, entree, soup or egg roll, and cookie. If you're in Huntsville and in the mood for Chinese, you won'te be disappointed with China Taste. It's the best!

Jon M.

Yelp
This place is simply great. GREAT food, super-quick, clean, and pleasant. My office used to be really close to it, and several of us would eat here a couple of times per week. We moved off into Reserach Park a few years ago, and went through a serious period of China Taste withdrawal. We still try to get takeout from there a few times per year now, and I'll stop by any time I might be in the neighborhood around lunch. I'd recommend this place for sure.
