Where to order banh mi sandwiches in Las Vegas - Eater Vegas

"Chef Beni Velazquez’s Asian fusion spot at Pecos and Tropicana serves everything from kung pao shrimp tacos to lobster with sherry soy garlic. The banh mi here is equally inventive. Filled with ham, crispy pork, gruyere, jicama slaw, and cilantro, the sandwich is accompanied by plantain chips." - Krista Diamond

Chef Beni Velazquez returns with ChinaLatina - Eater Vegas

"Taking over 1,080 square feet at the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Pecos Road, ChinaLatina replaces the shuttered Mexicali Raspados, next door to Pancho’s Vegan Tacos. Promised to be coming soon, but yet to reveal a timetable for opening day, a previewed menu hints Velazquez is aiming for maximum flavor at affordable prices with the current most expensive dish, the Latin garlic lobster served in a Spanish sherry soy garlic sauce, set to be priced at $21. True to its fusion message, planned creations include Kung Pao shrimp taco, the lechon Cu-banh mi sandwich, roasted sweet banana in a honey guava teriyaki sauce, plus boba drinks, coffee, teas, and smoothies." - Bradley Martin

SerpAPI
They have vegan and gluten free options. Chef Beni came out and chatted with us. The food was very fresh and full of unique and tasty flavors. They deserve to be in a much better location, but they have made the little spot in an old strip mall very inviting. We're going to go back. If there is anything in the menu that you'd like to adjust, just ask. Chef Beni makes everything from scratch. He has been a chef for many years and really has created a place where those who need to be gluten free or vegan in their diet can find some yummy food. The price varies according to how hungry you are. Two of us ordered large plates and drinks, along with the tip we paid $50. Give them a try, we need to support small homegrown establishments like this. They deserve it.

Unique blend of Latin and Asian flavors. Very creative. Staff was superb! Beni, Eric, and everyone else was so welcoming! Looking forward to their expansion in Chinatown. It’s going to happen! God bless!

Excellent food. This is a hidden gem. I ate at China poblano also, frankly taste is better here. The tempura shishito peppers are unbelievable. The chef comes out to talk to you.. very nice. Will be back for sure.

"And on the 5 Millionth Day, God created Chef Beni and China Latina. And it was good". You can tell the food is cooked with such love and passion. The flavors are divine and we absolutely loved it. Even more, Chef Beni and the women at the front of the house (apologies for not catching a name!) are incredibly nice and you can tell how much pride they have in their work - as they should! We look forward to coming back!

Asian+Latin fusion cuisine prepared from scratch. The elevated plating and unique flavors defy the humble location. A hidden gem for sure.

Chef Beni has no doubt put his heart and soul into the delicious and varied menu of ChinaLatina. His dishes manage to fuse Chinese and Latin food in ways you wouldn't previously imagine. Everything we had was delicious and good portion sizes. His gregarious and warm personality expresses itself here. We had a great time and it was a pleasure to meet Chef Beni and Maria, who is a total sweetheart. Five stars all around.

Everything was amazing! If you love good food, this is a must try! We had lots of things on the menu and loved all of them! The lechón bahn mi, lechón potstickers, Latin garlic chicken, lechón fried rice, yucca fries, plantains and more!

SerpAPI
Everything was beyond our expectations. We came for the Steamed Buns - which were excellent btw - and ended up trying a bit of everything. I'm not sure which was our favorite, we had the veggie egg rolls - amazing - pot stickers- some delicious plantains - the only way they should ever be made- BBQ pork and pork fried rice and bread pudding to finish it off. I am sad the Ramen wasn't available but we came later in the day so it's understandable. It just gives us a reason to come back! One of the reviews gave points off for no fountain drinks but that's a plus to me. I had a refreshing mango juice and my husband had a coconut lychee drink. They were flavorful without being overly sweet and syrupy. I'm not a big soda drinker so it was a perfect choice. The service at least matched if not surpassed the food. The lady that served us was warm, inviting and genuinely enjoyed her job.

Yelp
Hidden gem! This is a small little, take away place, off the strip that is tasty with quality food. You know how if you eat at a place that you found flavorful, however you are super thirsty afterwards--totally NOT this place--that is how you can tell the flavors are genuine and thoughtfully crafted. Went with a large group, so we had the opportunity to try almost the full menu and found we got all hits. Definitely give this place a try. A bonus, the staff is super friendly.

Hope other read this and join up !! Best food in Town made to order goodness Staff can't be beat and even though it a little spot it perfect.

Yelp
What a hidden gem! We were spending a weekend in Vegas and knowing that finding a good place to eat , would be difficult due to my allergies...I'd search some places. Came across Chinalatina through Yelp and based on the wonderful reviews, we'd plan to go n find out for ourselves. Well...we went Twice! Food was so delicious and all were made to order from scratch. We met and talked to Chef Beni himself to ensure he was aware of my gluten and dairy allergies. He was very accommodating and welcoming. He was able to modify most of the food. Took pics of the ramen, tacos and fried rice combos..,which in my opinion, were the best out of what we ordered. I loved the Yuca fries as well, will def order that again for snacks. Shrimp tacos are to die for, so tasty and have that spicy kick to it. I craved it already the next day. Hopefully he's able to expand to different locations and more people with allergies, will be able to eat his delicious food.

Yelp
I found this nice little tuck-spot off of Pecos and Tropicana (inside the $1 Cinema parking lot) The name China Latina alone, got me excited -- Anything fusion style gets my hopes up but Chef Beni delivered above and beyond with his menu and more importantly, with the flavor of each dish. The interior is nice but has limited seating. If you have a party more than 5 you may want to call ahead or consider it a perfect grab and go meal. The menu is eye catching but every single appetizer was calling my name so I ordered the meat egg rolls, potstickers, honey bbq ribs and bread pudding for my meal. The egg rolls were delicious. (Inside was chorizo, chicken and shrimp) I could have had another order! The dumplings just as flavorful. Also, I could have had another order. And the ribs, I saved for last before dessert -- and it was fitting because (as fantastic as everything was) they were the best. Flavorful honey bbq (not too sweet), juicy, and one push of your finger, the meats coming off the bone. The white chocolate bread pudding... in a league of its own! Somehow he got it to taste like a baked HoneyBun. By far the best bread pudding I've ever had. Will be back. Next time I'm getting an entree with the apps.

Yelp
Don't let the location fool you. It's not the greatest plaza to be in but I'm so excited I decided to go. Chef Beni's flavors will speak for themselves. Every dish was astounding!!!! Don't even get me started with his presentation, everything he played looked like it should be on a cover of a magazine. He talked about moving the restaurant downtown and I can't wait when that happens!
google avatar

Brad D.

Yelp
The only thing to complain about is the obscene amount of menu items that I have to try! :D Everything on the menu sounds delicious. Office ordered lunch so tried the house fried rice because chorizo and fried rice. Not disappointed, best fried rice in town. Then there was the egg roll. Pure heaven. Drooled over the people enjoying sandwiches and bao tacos. The only person complaining was the chicken katsu sandwich and I think that was pure jealousy over the more flavorific foods at the table :D The food travelled well

Yelp
Very little hole in the wall restaurant near Mediterranean Turkish grocery store on Tropicana and Pecos. 1st time going was attracted to the Latin Asian fusion food looked delicious on Yelp. It did not disappoint! Ordered Cuban Bahn-mi Sandwich with side of plantains and their version of chili wings to go. Both items were very tasty and impressively good! Really enjoyed the wings which were 5 large full sized wings not the half drumstick or wing part the whole thing. Lady at the desk was very friendly and brought water out since had to wait 20 min for order to get prepared since all is made fresh to order. Definitely will order again and explore the other menu items.Very unique and different food its own cool twist. Recommended for pick up or delivery since place only has 3 tables and takes time to prepare and cook orders.

Yelp
Yes, indeed, Chef Beni is a genius! My wife and I came in to their small location and every dish was wonderful. I highly recommend the small plates of tempura shishito peppers and chinalatina egg rolls. Both were amazing! We followed with honey guava teriyaki chicken adobe and the lechon pork fried rice bowls. The rice bowls had surprise vegetables, carrots, broccoli and edamame and were bursting with flavor. Prices were reasonable, portions large and service was excellent. So glad we found this little gem!
google avatar

Kenia M.

Yelp
Incredible food! Everything was fresh, perfectly seasoned. We had lots of different things on the menu: the Lechón fried rice, the pan fried potstickers, the Latin garlic chicken, plantains, yucca fries, and the lechón bhan mi. Everything was perfect! Definitely recommend if you love fusion flavors.
google avatar

Yelp
The food is so delicious and fresh. I ordered the veggie egg rolls and honey guava teriyaki. Also, the service is very good. I would definitely order again.

Yelp
Very good food the fusion of Cuban & China was amazing! I ordered the Yuca fried with lechon & lechon fried rice., was delicious!!

Yelp
This place is in a strip mall away from the strip and it's very unassuming. But the food... I don't even remember what I got but I liked it so much I went back like an hour later and got more so I could share with my cousin who lives here. I've been craving it since, mostly because it's not always open. Service is spectacular and the food is seriously mouth-wateringly good. And it's not expensive either. Go here if you can. Totally worth it!!!
google avatar

Jerry H.

Yelp
Big flavors! Vegetarian options are really, really good. I cannot recommend the Shishito Peppers enough. I had them to go so a bit limp when I got home as to be expected for tempura. I can't even imagine how good they are fresh on site. The crema and seasoning that made them next level. I'm talking death sentence last meal good. This is definitely an odd location but parking was ample. By odd it's a bit deep in the crux of the center. The entrance is inviting and the inside of the place is reminiscent of the LES of NYC which is super cool. All that said, to locate off the strip in this random spot speaks of the confidence in their menu. Just go here! If you're sick of everything else or undecided for some food check this place out. They will be on some foodie TV show or they'll end up going viral and you'll soon have a long ass wait so hurry up.

Yelp
We did takeout and all I can say is WOW!!! Hurry up and try this place before the word gets out and there are lines out the door. This little unassuming counter service spot, tucked away in a strip mall on a busy SE intersection, is so much more impressive than its exterior suggests. A unique take on two of my favorites- Chinese and Mexican- this is truly fusion! I had the Crispy Honey Almond Shrimp ($17) - a generous serving of rice flour coated shrimp and veggies in the most delectable sauce, full of almonds-my mouth waters just typing the name. My husband tried the Spicy Beef with ChinaLatina Fried Rice (chorizo, chicken, shrimp) and was equally impressed. Accompanied by Mango Aqua Fresca, this was a perfect midweek dinner. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Christine M.

Yelp
Stayed nearby off the strip and saw the fusion menu and great reviews so gave it a try .We drove in from San Diego and arrived late and were too tired to dine out. We were pleasantly surprised with all of the items we ordered and the service we received was great from the driver to the person who took our order. We ordered Kung Pao Shrimp Taco, Roasted Sweet Banana, Latin Garlic Chicken, and Lechon Steamed Buns. The last item was my favorite. We had left overs and heated the food back up again and it was just as good. Sadly don't think we took photos.
google avatar

Shannon B.

Yelp
Definitely an unassuming place, but the food is delicious and the service wonderful. We got the egg rolls, steamed tofu buns, and crispy teriyaki guava chicken with veggie fried rice. My favorite dish was the egg rolls. So flavorful and perfectly cooked. The fusion of chipotle and teriyaki was so yummy! My boyfriend's favorite was the guava chicken. Also really flavorful. Wonderful creativity in the menu and the chef, who came out to speak with us, was very friendly and passionate about his food. The front of house service was also exceptional and demonstrated how much they care about their customers' experiences! I wish we could come back more often, but we just stumbled upon them on a vacation!
google avatar

Irene W.

Yelp
So glad I found this spot - wow! The lechon potstickers were my favorite!!! Packed with so much flavor, I couldn't get enough! Everything is cooked/baked to order, but the wait is so worth it. The sauces were phenomenal, we really enjoyed the honey guava teriyaki. I hadn't had this type of fusion before but the chef did an amazing job creating his very unique menu! The staff were all so friendly. It's great to have found an exceptional hole in the wall to add to my rotation!
google avatar

Selia H.

Yelp
We enjoyed the yuca fries, the vinegar salt gave it wonderful flavor. Garlic chicken was tasty as well as the pork fried rice. Definitely will come back.

Yelp
Some of the best Asian fusion ever. Quality food, kind service, and very unique flavors. Also offers military discounts. Please go.

Yelp
Great mix of Latin and Asian flavors. Very creative. Chef Beni, Eric, and the rest of the staff were very welcoming and greats hosts! My girlfriend Nelly and I loved it. Can't wait until the Chinatown location opens up! God bless!

Yelp
First time trying this place and i must say it's Amazing! Maria the Cashier was very friendly taking my order over the phone when i mentioned i've never ate there before she was helpful and explained the menu to me. When i picked up my food Maria was very friendly made eye contact great conversation and assured me how much i would enjoy the food. I have to say this was a very delcious plate ! The house fried rice is so delcious a must try! Looking forward to exploring more dishes off this menu.

Yelp
First time here, came here bc my bestfriend found this hidden gem on google, decided to try it and great thing we did!
google avatar

Alex B.

Yelp
The service was friendly and accommodating. The flavors are interesting, but good. It is a bit expensive, which wouldn't normally be an issue, but the chicken was over cooked and they are out of stock on a lot of their coffee and tea options.

Ana V.

Yelp
Stay away from here the food is disgusting . Over priced and the guy at the front wasn't helpful at all. The food comes in a very tiny box (which I don't mind as long as the food is amazing) but in this case the food looks all nasty , the lenchon looked like old meat from last week at least . The wannabe egg rolls were disgusting soaked in oil. On top of everything we waited about 45 minutes for cold food that was nasty . Not sure why people are recommending this please food safety should close them down . Sorry it had to be said. Never going back my 60 dollars could have been better wasted at McDonald's ((Below you will see what is supposed to be lechon and chicken, sorry the pic are not the best ))
google avatar

Yelp
We were in Las Vegas for a couple of days and decided to try restaurants off the strip. We asked Siri for the best restaurant in Chinatown and she gave us Chinalatina. We said why not! Loved the name! We ordered about six dishes, they were really good but the standout dishes for us were the pork steam buns and the sweet plantain. They were delicious! With a combination of flavors that I hadn't try before. The sweet plantains came on top of an asian coleslaw and the dough on the steam buns were so soft and fluffy. They were perfection. I can honestly said that they were the best steamed buns I had in my life and I'm from LA where I have had countless of pork steam buns. The cinnamon buns were sooo good! Is definitely worth the trip!
google avatar

Charlie S.

Yelp
Small place but worth the search and effort to find! Eric was very friendly from the moment we walked in. Food was fresh and delicious. Pot stickers and Latin Garlic chicken we're prepared to order. Glad we found the place and will be back!
google avatar

Cindy R.

Yelp
Stopped for some quick noodles. The broth was tasty and the leaching had a nice crisp exterior. It was a surprise for a strip mall in a food desert!
google avatar

Nancy N.

Yelp
Shared dinner with the hubby at this place one night. Ordered the Latin garlic chicken under chef's specialty--an excellent dish! Stirred chicken stuffed with slices of garlic--so good! The Spanish Sherry garlic sauce was amazing. I can eat that the sauce mixed veggies all day. Very much enjoyed the cooked garlic with every bites. Definitely will be here for more and maybe venture out and try other dishes. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

Jan Danica B.

Yelp
Tropicana avenue has some of the BEST food you can find in town. One restaurant that stood is this place. With an Asian and Latin fusion many things can go wrong however, Chef Beni executed both flavors. The lechon fries, is everything we hoped for. Crispy lechon with amazing teriyaki sauce, fries were not soggy at all. The spicy beef has just the amount of spice that doesn't seem so overbearing. But be warn, it is a lot of food! So worth it! Give it a

Yelp
Mood - dinner Upon entering was greeted with stellar customer service. Was given the menu and several suggestions of what is good. Opted for the Chopped Latin Chicken Salad, ChinaLatina fried rice, Lechon Asian BBQ, Miso Pork Lechon Ramen, Egg Rolls, Chef Beni cheesecake creation, and of course Tea. The whole concept of fusion is honestly taking several restaurants by storm. But I've found most restaurants tend to lean towards just one main ethnic group, for their items they offer. This restaurant really has taken the ideology of fusion and created the dishes as such. The ramen had actual Elote ( street corn in it), the Egg Rolls contained a Jicama slaw. True Fusion. Nothing that was entertained tonight disappointed at all. Chef Beni came out and introduced himself which was very nice. He was very personable, and def passionate about his newest restaurant. Interior is a few table and chair arrangements, and a sit up counter. Everything was very clean. A television was playing. Music was playing in the background. Would thoroughly recommend- pricing was reasonable, portions were generous. They offer Gluten Free & Plant Based items, which are clearly defined in the menu. Most products used are compostable or recyclable. Gotta love earth friendly business. Location is Tropicana/ Pecos - ample parking

Yelp
Drove by this place 10+ whenever I get gas on my way to work so times decided to finally give it a try was a little skeptical because it's obviously Chinese and Latin fusion.. and it's very easy to mess that up.. but let me tell you, I should of stopped by a lot sooner! The food was delicious! Great flavors good ingredients and presented very well for this whole in the wall. I got the egg rolls w/ meat and which had chorizo chicken and shrimp. Was a little worried it would be a little to meaty but it was made just right with great flavors! The Kung Pao Shrimp Tacos were a no brainer. And wow they were amazing! So many different flavors into bite size deliciousness. I could of ate 10. Ordered the fried rice to go and popped it open at home, and let me tell you I'm Asian and I love my fried rice.. and this fried rice is on the top list of rices I've eaten. And the chorizo in it is perfect! Who would of ever though! Last I got the Flan Frost.. let's just say.. it's a Flan Smoothie! I don't need to explain myself! If you like Flan you'll love it! It's not to sweet and made with there made in house flan! It's perfect end to an amazing unexpected delicious dinner. Iv never had NY style Chinese but if I ever go to NY I will have to compare it to ChinaLatina but it'll be hard. I have very high hopes for this place! And if I had more room I would of tried everything on the menu! I can't wait to go back and try the rest of Chef Bennys menu! Get in there now before you have to wait 30+ minutes for a table in a few months!

Yelp
Went to ChinaLatina with one of my best friends a couple of nights ago because she has this restaurant on her Yelp list for places to dine and Chef Beni did not dissappoint! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious!!! Started with the Kung Pao Shrimp Tacos and the flavors were AMAZING!!! Definite must have when you dine here. The sweet potato fries were so crispy and the Tajin seasoning just took them to the next level. For our entrée, we had the Black Pepper Salmon with the China Latina Fried rice and it was cooked to perfection. The salmon had a gorgeous crisp on the top and so moist throughout. The texture and flavor was on point! We're STILL talking about it days later! We also had an order of the plantains that sat on top of a bed of THE MOST INCREDIBLE jicama slaw that I could not stop eating which says a lot because I don't even like slaw. And the dessert....OMG!!!! I absolutely love bread pudding, but they are not all the same and they are not all good. Chef Beni's white chocolate bread pudding is now Top 3 of bread puddings that I've ever had! Another dessert we had was a combination of flan and egg custard. Mouth watering is the only way I could think to describe this delight. The crust was full of flavor and the custard flan had a smooth and airy texture. I will 100% be returning again and again!

Yelp
Simply delicious.. Chef Beni truly cares about his food... This place is a little gem... there were 4 of us... We all loved our dishes .. Unique, dishes all delicious, the fried rice tasted so freshand flavorful.. the egg rolls were crispy and delicious... you won't be sorry... the dishes were flavorful not salty...I will definitely return... the restaurant is small but the chef and server really worked well together... delicious

Yelp
Great hole-in-the wall place with unique tastes. Definitely worth a try and will be visiting again.
google avatar

Pascal L.

Yelp
Unique flavor profile, out of the same old same old food beaten path. Great for small plates and a quick snack, but also able to satisfy big appetite with their plates like the fried rice. It was a somewhat random find as we were out and about, but I know we will be back for more next time we are in town! Awesome.
google avatar

Kurt H.

Yelp
I'm going to keep this short and to the point.... This place rules! It's in a lowkey spot on Tropicana and Pecos. I tried the Lycee Agua Fresca, the ramen and the fried rice and they were all killer. I can't wait to go back and try more.
google avatar

Stephanie V.

Yelp
Everything was absolutely delicious and incredibly flavorful. Chef Beni was able to make some dishes vegan and was very helpful. Great customer service, I look forward to visiting again and trying different dishes. The steamed buns were my favorite.
google avatar

Vanja S.

Yelp
This is a small little place kind of hidden away. The young guy working the front is really sweet. The chef is very personable as well. There are a lot of different flavor combinations and they make everything fresh to order. If you have a large group I would recommend order ahead of time and pick up.
google avatar

Joseph L.

Yelp
Had the plantains and I am now scared for life, no other plantains will ever compare. I also had the steamed buns with pork an they were fabulous. I enjoyed it so much I brought some to my Daughter and fiancé and they both gave the plantains and steamed bun excellent ratings. Can't wait to return and try other items
google avatar

Cassandra P.

Yelp
Thank you Chef Beni, Your food was amazing. The flavors and the freshness was fantastic. Every meal was perfect. You can taste the passion and authenticity in every bit. I never had a appetite for fusion food, because I knew it was loaded with bad sugars and low quality ingredients. Your food was clean, healthy, fresh and organic. Best quality Asian and Latin food Iv had in vegas.
google avatar

Cari G.

Yelp
The food here is amazing! I highly recommend it. We split the gyoza appetizer, they taste great and the sauce on them is top notch. I got the shrimp tacos. The spice level was a little high for me but that's my only complaint. The flavor on the shrimp tacos is definitely a good example of a nice execution on fusion foods. I will be back soon to try out the ramen. Thank you Chef Benni, very personable chef.
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
This was so worth the wait because we really enjoyed the food! I can't say how much I appreciate good food and service in this time post pandemic and high inflation, going out to eat is a gamble. You will love this food if you like Chinese and Mexican but want something different, so yummy I had to take home leftovers cuz I could not eat it all. Thank you Beni for the nice conversation! We will be back!
google avatar

Wayne M.

Yelp
My family ordered takeout from here tonight because they had a vegan option on the menu (Miso tofu ramen) but tonight when we got our order I received the pork lechon instead, which I can't eat as a vegan (super disappointing). My family is eating what I got instead (no waste) but I am cooking my own dinner because of this. So if you are vegan, I would avoid ordering takeout or delivery here to prevent waste of animal products in situations like this. I'm sure it was just a wrong order mistake but even if we returned it, I'm certain would be thrown out for health regulations for example.
google avatar

Yelp
Overall just a negative experience. Food order time changed to later once I was in the car. Not too big of a deal, though. Got food home, and opened the food container, and there was a small hair (eyelash?) on the top of the food container. Very uncool, but I'm starving so I tried to look passed it. But the thing I ordered--Honey Guava Teriyaki Crispy Adobo Chicken--if that sounds like too much going on, that's because it is. Flavors were all over the place, and not cohesive. Broccoli and edamame in the rice weren't cooked, so kinda hard. Overall, I didn't finish the meal. My friend had ordered a chicken fried rice bowl, and also didn't finish, saying it was just bland. Lastly, I ordered a smoothie, a coconut oatmeal banana number that sounded delicious. Now, I understand that things "naturally sweetened" aren't gonna be as sweet as say jamba, but the thing was straight up bitter. I added 2 tablespoons of sugar at home and it was decent, but I still didn't finish. My friend, who ordered a blueberry smoothie also had to add 1 tablespoon of sugar. The other reviewers seemed happy, but this entire experience was super poor. Staff was very friendly, which was about the only plus.

The food was delicious, and the service was wonderful. We had the egg rolls, adobo chicken, miso ramen tofu, the beef, and both the chicken and pork fried rice. All the dishes were fabulous; I can't pick a favorite. . I highly recommend.
