Disastrous LA Food Event Is Being Called the Fyre Festival of Barbecue | Eater LA
"At Mandarin Plaza in Chinatown, the first-time LA Beer and World Barbecue Festival run by Fever was widely described as an unmitigated disaster: the health department delayed the start for over an hour due to a vendor water-temperature issue, which created hours-long, three-deep lines and a domino effect of overcrowding, understaffing, and insufficient bars to handle capacity. Attendees reported waits of over an hour for some vendors during a four-hour event, vendors scrambled to push out food in a compact space, the crowd may have swelled to over 3,500 (including some non-ticket holders), and the fire marshal may have attempted to shut things down. Online commenters compared it to the Fyre Festival, and Fever says it is issuing refunds, apologized, and is working to address customers' concerns." - Farley Elliott
