The services at CMAA were great! The staff members were helpful and friendly. Especially, the receptionist Hai. She was patient and truly listened to my needs. I really appreciate her help!

The star is for Aloun. He was great and tried to accommodate my mom and I. He apologize for canceling on my mom and I. My huge problem is the front desk and other staff members there. First of all, I didn’t like the hostile attitude that receptionist Hai had. Also for other staff members to be there and just be “noisy”. Like come on now. I understand there was miscommunication, but Hai knew my mom and I spoke Vietnamese. She then changed her attitude and tried to accommodate. I get it. I don’t look Vietnamese, but treat others the way you want to be treated. I took my mom to Vietnamese Association of Illinois near Dunkin’ Donuts and they were 100000% more helpful. No judgement, no confusion, and made my mom and I feel comfortable unlike CMAA. I know others had good experience but now I know that I just don’t belong and won’t be back.

Wow. Didn't know there are more people who had bad experiences like myself. I would never seek job support from these people they are terrible. You have some rude female name Monique who has no class and very unprofessional. She will always tell you that there are a lot of people she needs to attend to but will never get back with you at all.

Previously, I asked the association to fill out an application for me to take the nationality test, but I filled out the wrong application and as a result, I did not receive citizenship because I had not lived in the US for enough years. The night that letter arrived at the association, they said to help me fill out the application again. to return but they charged me $100 for the application fee. so I canceled and went home to do it myself.

You are absolutely right about teachers taking off all the time. What the heck? They will never take vacation if their salary would be cut off . My roommate took computer courses there, but the teacher want to be off when she is sick and when some students say they cannot come to class. He has to drop that class last semester. He could not learn that way. They got only 5 weeks of class instead of 10. A sick place where, even housekeepers try to tell you what to do. I m looking for another agency for my immigration paperwork. I CANNOT STAND THEM.!

I m taking courses at CMAA, but the teacher is always absent, i mean every other week, how can we learn?? There is no respect at all. These non-profit organizations receive big money( grant) from the government, but they see you like they are doing favor to you. Those workers get paid, they need to assist the public correctly. Bullshiits!!!!

The Front Desk is very rude. I am a senior Citizen and Live in the neighborhood. I just requested the front desk for a stapler to enable me to staple two pages. She refused and said if you are not a customer I will not give you the stapler to staple your papers. Horrible staff

Yelp
This Review is for the 2022 Dim Sum & Then Some 5k. The race was incredibly well organized from t-shirt and package pick up, to pre-run activities which included a DJ playing music, pre-run stretching, an MC with encouraging comments, a good luck bracelet exchange, and a traditional Dragon Dance Performance and Live Drumming and Instrumental Music with an explanation of its significance. There were 3 separate Races: 1. A Kids Dash for children; 2. A 5K Walk/Run; and 3. A 10K Run. Something for EVERYONE! Loved it! At the finish line participants received: *a Finisher's Medal * Dim Sum * Bubble Tea! FYI-The Race was SOLD OUT!! What a fantastic community activity that supports a non-profit that has been active for over 40 years and helps immigrants and refugees of all nationalities in Chicago providing support, resources, Citizenship Classes and many other altruistic and welcoming programs.

Yelp
This is like my home away from home. I've been going to CMAA for such a long time - more than half my life! They provide a lot of services, such as ESL classes, citizenship classes, etc etc. I'm more familiar with the Youth Department. There are programs for youth from grade school to high school throughout the year. Either homework help during the school year or day camp during the summer. For teens, there are workshops and activities through various groups - Triple B (for boys - ahem, I mean young men) and Young Women Warriors. I joined YWW when I was 13 as a mentee and now I've become one of the mentors. Since it's not for profit, we just had a scare about a month ago as to whether or not we could continue these programs. The programs are always a little tight with funding. It is a great, fun, safe environment especially since there has been an increase in street violence in Uptown. :(
