11 Places for Healthy But Satisfying Meals in D.C. | Eater DC

"Stepping into the tranquil confines of this Georgetown tea house feels a world apart from the noise and bustle of Wisconsin Avenue NW and M Street NW just one block away. The local favorite lets customers unwind over pots of traditional oolong, green, or black tea. There’s also tisane, or herbal, medicinal teas. Ching Ching Cha offers an accompanying menu of traditional, simply-prepared Chinese food and small bites."

Would’ve been five stars at their old location, it just felt more intimate. Prices are high, but it’s more of an experience and activity than just grabbing a drink, which makes it worth it. Everything is absolutely delicious, the staff is incredibly knowledgeable, and it’s still family-run, as far as I know. Would 100% recommend if you’re on the fence, especially if you’re a tea liker or lover. One of my go to places when family or friends are visiting.

The tea here is AMAZING. We have honestly had a hard time finding good quality teas, locally and online, and this place has always had the best. We love coming in for a relaxing tea experience and trying new ones! Please note: they have moved to a new location in DC and are no longer serving food but they can’t take down previous Google photos reviews from the Georgetown location. Also consider calling to confirm the hours that day as it seems they are still getting situated in the new space. The owner and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. The space is small, but peaceful and inviting. You can also buy loose teas and accessories to recreate the experience at home.

Really sweet place. Loved the loose leaf tea options they have and all the lovely teaware. Sad that we visited when food service has been discontinued. But still enjoyed our visit. Happy that they still do tea to go! The tea was delicious!

This place is a pleasant surprise - they have a very good collection of Chinese tea. And the waiters will teach you how to cook tea in an authentic way. Also the whole interior decoration is pretty exotic. Definitely a good place to get some interesting culture experience! The food is also surprisingly good - the portion is not too big, but it’s a decent amount that will get you just full enough to enjoy some good tea. The miso salmon we had was very tasty. Highly recommend trying their “8 Treasures” for people who don’t like tea. The subtle sweetness of this herbal tea is just amazing 😊 Also a great place to buy tea leaves, or tools for having a good tea ceremony!

Such a cute place especially for a cold day to enjoy some delicious tea and have a fun activity. Each tea comes with its own ways of drinking the tea and they’re very helpful and show you how to use all the different beautiful teapots. It is definitely expensive per person so come prepared for that and they no longer serve food in their new location but we had a great time!

For tea houses, this is very unique and cute. Well Decorated the interior is inviting and warm. The staff could use a refresher on service skills. Your rule of not allowing patrons to sit at a table is a little outdated. If the room is empty and someone is spending money, it shouldn’t matter of they are using a to-go cup or using the porcelain cups, you should still allow/invite them to sit in the room-they May end up ordering more or even buying something from your retail space. This location also does not serve dumplings-they should make this known.

A very unique and cozy teahouse and shop in Georgetown. This place is pretty quiet and has a great ambiance, a perfect place to relax from busy DC. I was greeted by the waitress and seated immediately. They have an extensive menu of traditional teas and also some unique teas. They had so many good teas, but I ordered Jasmine blossom and peach blossom teas. I also had pineapple cakes, which was recommended by the waitress. Both teas were very flavorful and delicious, but the pineapple cakes were just out of this world! So good! I believe they make them in house too. They also have a lunch box and dumplings, which looked really good. After enjoying those teas, I was looking around the shop. They have a lot of beautiful tea sets and decors. I was thinking about getting some of them, but they were very expensive. Whenever I visit Filomena Italian restaurant, I always try to visit this place afterwards. They are right next door to each other, which is very convenient. After eating a heavy and greasy food, this place is complementary to filomena. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to take a break from the busy city.

This is a small shop with a lot of beautiful and overpriced teaware and loose leaf tea. We didn't feel very welcome here. I'm pretty sure it was because we were both men. Upon entering, I heard her say to someone, "there's a lot of men here today." We browsed her store because she didn't welcome us or provide information about how she ran her shop. Finally she paused her side conversation long enough to ask us if we were staying for tea because we had "browsed her entire store." We sat down and ordered from her limited menu of teas. Our water and tea were provided, but there was no explanation of the teaware used, what made the tea special, nothing to engage us with the tea. The other table, occupied by two women and one man were served their tea differently. The man at the table was shown how to use his gaiwan, but there was no discussion of the tea. The ladies at that table received information about the teaware and their tea. She explained what made the tea special, but spoke directly to the women at the table. We were then basically ignored while she scrolled on her phone until she finally came to refill our water kettle (now dry from her lack of attention) and chided us for letting it boil dry. For $20 each, I expected a much better experience. I wanted to go home with some teas, but I just couldn't justify it. I'm terribly disappointed as I was looking forward to visiting here for weeks.

Yelp
It's such a GEM!!! The owner is super sweet and friendly!!! Sadly they are no longer serving food, since their new location does not have a kitchen. They will be bringing in house tea drinking back once they get the documents approved!!! I cannot wait to come back when I'm back in D.C!!! Such a quiet and welcoming place to enjoy a nice cup of tea!!! I'd come here by myself or even a date!!!

Yelp
So glad I decided to visit on a whim when I was exploring the neighborhood during the EU open houses in May. It is a quaint space with not that much room but an intimate feel. Great for dates and gathering with close friends. The owner helped me decide on a lighter Taiwanese Alishan Oolong. She also taught me the technique to set up and pour correctly. You are provided with a refillable kettle of water so you can re-steep the tea as many times as you like. To top it off they sell tons of cute tea accessories and I bought a sample size of the same oolong I tried that day for a friend and hojicha powder as a gift.

Yelp
This tea shop was so peaceful and gorgeous inside, and the staff were so kind and attentive! My friend and I wandered in on a hot day and spent a good 2 hours drinking tea, relaxing, and chatting. They also sell tea accessories, tea, and little trinkets. They currently don't have a kitchen so there's no food (they're still trying to orient in the new space after spending 25 years at the old location), but the tea selection is expansive. Most of the teas also come with a tea ceremony and the staff show you how to do it.

Yelp
They opened a new location in Dupont! I missed out on their Georgetown location (which is now closed). But I'm so happy to visit their new location. The space is very beautiful, but on the smaller side (so you might have to wait for bigger parties!). It is $20 per person for any of the teas on the menu. You get unlimited hot water so you can keep steeping. We were there for over an hour and the tea kept getting better and better (I steeped it over 3+ times) It felt so wasteful to leave my tea, I wonder if they allow you to take home your blend to continue enjoying at home? The ladies there were lovely and seemed like they create relationships with their customers. This is the kind of business I will always support! Now I want to learn more about Chinese teas and learning to steep with different blends. Lovely spot! And very accessible in Dupont! PS, if you choose to sit on the platform where you take off your shoes, it might be uncomfortable if your leg falls asleep. So wear loose comfy clothes!

Yelp
Fantastic vibes and very good tea. Ching Ching offers up a super cozy and welcoming environment to tea enthusiasts and tea newbies alike. I highly recommend. She stocks a nice selection of teas. This is a must visit in DC! Come earlier in the day if you can, you'll be more likely to get a table quickly.

Yelp
With only a few tables, and a kettle of boiling water on each one, this small tea house is a lovely place to make friends. First you select from a wide menu of Chinese teas which is then expertly serviced to you with enough beakers and cups to make a chemist proud. Then you sit and relax and sip your little science project. Be warned, this place strictly does loose leaf tea. No match lattes with oat milk and cold foam here. I doubt they even have sugar to add to the tea (never asked). When we went, we invited two other people to join us at the table since space was so limited. We had a great conversation! Tea is a great way of bringing people together and I'd recommend everyone should try to share their table.

Yelp
Absolutely the best tea house in the DMV to get actual tea and tea accessories. The owner, ching ching, is one of the sweetest business owners you will ever meet. She genuinely cares about her product and your experience. My wife and I love this place so much, we even had our wedding here! It was perfect.

Yelp
We had a great time here. The owner gave us the history & background of the teas that we ordered. She was so kind. The vibe is very peaceful.

Yelp
An absolute gem! They've moved from their Georgetown location to this new one and the ambiance remains. The service was top notch and the glassware was unique. For an experience that puts the tea front and center, look no further.

Yelp
It's very clear that this place takes tea and customer service seriously. The owner is a master at reading body language and helping her customers feel at ease. Every part of the space has so much detail put into it, from the arrangement of tea pots for sale, to the hanging strand of intricately carved wooden animals. I felt incredibly at ease after enjoying a pot of white peach blossom tea - I will definitely be returning for many more cups of tea.
