Sadly, after being a happy customer at Chipotle at this location near my home for more than 20 years, I have decided to stop paying their higher and higher prices for less and less. Since the company was bought and the new president was put in charge, their only focus is profit. That's more than clear.
The price of my chicken tacos has gone for just over $5 plus tax, to more than $10 over the last four years. Based on my last visit, they have also gotten very strict about how much protein each item can include. They weigh it now. My last three tacos had two cubes of chicken each, yet I paid nearly $11 in total for this. I was told that the servers are now being monitored and that they are not allowed to give us more than that.
I also listen to the CEO's quarterly profit announcements and have gotten sick of hearing him say that they have had no problem increasing their prices because their "affluent" customer base can afford it and are not complaining. Their profit and stock prices has never been higher, as a result. They keep raising their prices BECAUSE THEY CAN.
I'm not high-income, and I don't like being cheated due to the high cost of my tacos or a burrito now, so I will never return to Chipotle again. And I was a loyal, original customer of the very first Chipotle on the University of Denver campus, when Steve Ellis was the founder and CEO and actually cared about his customers. CEO Brian Niccols clearly does not.
