I visited there tonight, June 1. When I arrived, there were eight people in line in front of me. I counted seven employees, but there was only one person actually making food for the people standing in line. The other employees were putting together orders on the side or cooking or doing various other things.
The person putting together food for the people in line seemed to be new and seemed to be struggling a bit. I don't have any complaints about that. But there was no second person to do the secondary job in the line. I've been going to Chipotle since they opened in Columbus, 25 or more years ago. Without three people to work the line, it can be very difficult.
There was a person standing at the register with his arms folded, just waiting for things to be finished, but nothing was being finished due to only having one person work on the orders. The guy working on the order was having a hard time with a super large burrito. One of the other employees put on gloves and was able to wrap the burrito. I thought at that point that service would pick up. The employee swapped out some food pans and then took off her gloves and went back to other things, leaving the situation the way that it was with the line backing up.
One employee was walking to the back and paused to put up his middle finger towards the person doing the cooking. He stood there with his middle finger up, waiting for the cook to look up to see him and was laughing the whole time. Eventually, after about 30 seconds, the cook looked up and saw he was being flipped off. The first employee laughed and walked to the back, all while we were standing in line.
No one seemed to be managing what was happening. It seemed like a free-for-all.
After five minutes and only seeing one order get processed, I turned around and walked out. It was apparent that every order was going to take an exorbitant amount of time. I went right down the road to another place and they waited on me right away.
I have been to this location a bunch of times. This time the service was horrible and it seemed like it was chaos behind the counter. I have had service problems at this location before and they seem to struggle at times.
My one star rating tonight is strictly due to poor service.
