Chipotle Slapped With Lawsuits After Ohio Foodborne Illness Outbreak | Eater

"A Powell, Ohio location of a national burrito chain has been linked to a large suspected foodborne outbreak that left nearly 400 people reporting illness or seeking medical care after dining there; the restaurant was closed “out of an abundance of caution” while local health officials investigate. Multiple lawsuits have been filed, including a class-action pursuit by DiCello Levitt & Casey and Ron Simon & Associates alleging as many as 200 patrons and employees were sickened on July 29–30. An initial suit by Filip Szyller says he ate at the location on July 29 and later suffered fever, diarrhea, nausea, headaches, fatigue and hot-and-cold flashes; another customer is pursuing a separate suit seeking $25,000 while still under medical care. The firms are soliciting others who became sick to come forward and say this is the seventh outbreak attributed to the chain in recent years; the plaintiffs aim to determine where and how the company failed to protect customers. This is hands down the worst Chipotle I’ve ever dealt with. Every single time I place a mobile order for pickup, there is always something wrong, missing items, incorrect ingredients, or just completely botched orders. It’s become routine at this point. What makes it worse is the attitude when you try to get it fixed. Instead of owning the mistake, the staff acts like you’re making it up or somehow at fault. It’s incredibly unprofessional and frustrating. The customer service here is nonexistent. I genuinely don’t understand how this location is allowed to operate under the Chipotle name. Management clearly doesn’t care, and it shows. I will never order from this location again.

I fall for it over and over and over again. The inconsistency at Chipotle is mind blowing to me. This time it was a completely different circumstance. Went in to pick up two large chicken quesadillas. Usually the one thing that is made consistent. Nope, not this time. This girl makes me two large quesadillas, might as well been two small because the amount of ingredients she used was pathetic to say the least. She puts the food in a bowl and I’m like um, do I get my sides? Shes like no that’s with the kids meal. I said since when? I get that every time. Her and the girl beside her her just stare at me like a dear in headlights. I’m like ok, never mind then. So I paid $20 for two horribly made quesadillas. Then to top it off. Last visit and this current visit I’ve had rewards available for a free quesadilla. For some odd reason says I can only use it on an online order. So I didn’t use it last visit. Didn’t think much of it. This time I tried to order online and use the free reward and it says quesadilla order wasn’t available for purchase. So when I went inside to order I got to the register to pay for my two awful quesadillas and I asked If i could somehow get to use the reward in store. She’s like no I don’t know why it’s not working. I’m not sure what’s wrong. No resolution. Just move on! There use to be a time chipotle service and quality was amazing. That time has long passed.

If you like to play roulette, this is the Chipotle for you. Except, you lose every time. Improperly cooked rice (stiffer than rigor mortis itself) is a trademark of theirs. Less than a single serving of meat is served when double meat was requested and paid for. Toppings? Forget about it. Because they always do! For reference, I have attached a picture of the bowl my nephew received from the Powell location. If “a picture is worth a thousand words” then this one is worth the whole dictionary. P.S. I am positive my nephew is still having nightmares about the bowl he received.

Do not order from the app for take out. It took at least one hour for the food to arrive to me and on top of this, everything I said I need extra did not come, not only that they missed out on items for my bowl as seen in the picture. I tried to talk to customer service and instead of rerouting me to a representative it just says no more representatives now and restarts the auto chat.

Paid almost $14 to get half a lunch. When I ask for rice I want rice, when I ask for steak I want steak, not whatever this is. Not to mention charging me for a few drops of queso. This is disappointing and disgusting. Get it together.

The last two times I have been here they have been out of either chicken, rice, or beans (or a combination). Service was disrespectful when I addressed the issues. They only had one person working the line with plenty of workers just talking in the back. Also the tables needed to be cleaned and the trash was overflowing. Honestly disappointing how bad chip had become over the past few years. And don’t get me started on working skimping your portion sizes.

Ordered a steak bowl with double meat. They gave me a single scoop of meat until i reminded them that i asked for double. They were out of lettuce. The meat was not only cold, but nothing but grisle. I will not be going back to this location. The staff acted as tho I was putting them out by asking for extra rice and extra meat.

Not a great chipotle. I did a pick up order and it was completely wrong. I had one bowl that was supposed to be half chicken and half sofritas. That didn't happen because they put steak on it. And then my second bowl was supposed to have sour cream but instead they put spicy red sauce. Overall not great at all. Not sure how they mixed everything up!

I usually don't write reviews, but this was ridiculous. I ordered a bowl from Chipotle and paid extra for double chicken--only to get home and find NO chicken at all. Not even a single piece. Just rice, beans, and disappointment. If I'm paying a premium for double meat, the least you can do is include the meat. It's not like chicken is optional in a chicken bowl. This isn't the first time Chipotle has messed up my order, but it might be the last time I give them my money. Get it together. At the very least, double-check the orders when people are paying extra.

I visited there tonight, June 1. When I arrived, there were eight people in line in front of me. I counted seven employees, but there was only one person actually making food for the people standing in line. The other employees were putting together orders on the side or cooking or doing various other things. The person putting together food for the people in line seemed to be new and seemed to be struggling a bit. I don't have any complaints about that. But there was no second person to do the secondary job in the line. I've been going to Chipotle since they opened in Columbus, 25 or more years ago. Without three people to work the line, it can be very difficult. There was a person standing at the register with his arms folded, just waiting for things to be finished, but nothing was being finished due to only having one person work on the orders. The guy working on the order was having a hard time with a super large burrito. One of the other employees put on gloves and was able to wrap the burrito. I thought at that point that service would pick up. The employee swapped out some food pans and then took off her gloves and went back to other things, leaving the situation the way that it was with the line backing up. One employee was walking to the back and paused to put up his middle finger towards the person doing the cooking. He stood there with his middle finger up, waiting for the cook to look up to see him and was laughing the whole time. Eventually, after about 30 seconds, the cook looked up and saw he was being flipped off. The first employee laughed and walked to the back, all while we were standing in line. No one seemed to be managing what was happening. It seemed like a free-for-all. After five minutes and only seeing one order get processed, I turned around and walked out. It was apparent that every order was going to take an exorbitant amount of time. I went right down the road to another place and they waited on me right away. I have been to this location a bunch of times. This time the service was horrible and it seemed like it was chaos behind the counter. I have had service problems at this location before and they seem to struggle at times. My one star rating tonight is strictly due to poor service.

I payed for double protein and extra on everything and there's barely any meat. I'm missing one of the proteins i ordered, there's barely anything in my bowl. It's so light it feels like it's only filled w lettuce. I also ordered a burrito and they only gave me half of it? Lettuce was rotten and also missing ingredients i ordered.

I understand the difficulty of working at such a busy restaurant (especially on a Saturday.) But I made a mobile order around 20 minutes before I came in to pick it up. When I arrived the employee told me "your food may have been stolen" and they later revealed to me that they gave my bag to the wrong person. The employee then hastily made me a new bowl that i *attempted* to eat. But the chicken in the bowl was EXTREMELY salty, I gave my mom and my dad a bite and they both agreed that the chicken was just inedible because of the chicken that was so salty I could feel myself eating individual grains of salt. In total this situation took 45 minutes (including travel time) to get my money back... Safe to say that i'm going to start going to start going to the Chipotle on sawmill road.

Look, I respect fast food or any retail worker. They work hard and have to deal with hard customers. But this time I went did not do good with the customer service. Firstly I asked for a burrito, and the lady that was making it gave a reasonable amount of rice which was good. But she gave me little to no meat, like not even enough to feed an ant colony type size. And when I asked for steak she looked back at the guy making it an gave me weird answers, basically telling me she did not want to wait for it with the phase: "Hes basically just making the steak back their so" and then we had a awkward silence for around 3-9 seconds. I wish I enjoyed my experience better but my burrito was super small and mostly just rice.

It's funny that all the high reviews (including my own) are from a decade ago. The problem here is they are no longer consistent. The whole reason to hit these places is the flavor is the same - i don't mean "the veggies hit different" I mean one place you get a stacked bowl, another you get a scraping of a bowl. Sometimes it's overcooked (the rice, the meat). Fortunately, the meat has never been undercooked, but sometimes the rice is. The staff is working hard - they rotate, it's often younger kids (or young to me, anyways). Most clearly enjoy it, are friendly, and run their asses off behind the counter. So it's not for trying, but whatever training chipotle used to do, it isn't the same. I'll keep coming to this one (it's been the best of the ones in the area).

I was redirected to an online support platform that was very unhelpful. Mistakes happen, but no attempt was made to correct the errors. The meal was not offered to be replaced or refunded.

I would rate zero stars if possible. This is the absolute worst Chipotle in existence. It's fairly routine for them to run out of shells, or chicken. Today, I orders and paid for a burrito via the chipotle app and when I arrived to pick it up, the store was locked. There are employees inside. No sign on the door and no one answering the phone. Several people keep walking up and trying to knock or go in and no one will answer. One of the most poorly run franchises ever.

Order at the restaurant!! The line at this location is often shorter than the line for online/mobile orders. They are frequently 20-30 minutes behind on online/mobile orders. Today I was patient and waited 48 minutes. But I can't tell you how many times I just abandoned my mobile order and just re-ordered or left. It's a struggle I tell ya. Maybe Chipotle should add comfy couches, and board games such as chess or Monopoly to entertain their guests during the wait? Just an idea. The rest is all good... smooth like guacamole.

I'm caught in this vicious cycle where I forget how terrible the service is at this restaurant and I'm suckered into ordering here about every 6 months. Tonight was one of those nights. Placed an order through the app for 2 entrees at 6:12pm. I didn't leave the restaurant with my food until 8:05pm. No updates. No apologies. Lobby full of frustrated customers as we watched the walk in line come and go. Asked to cancel order and was told I'd have to 'call 1-800-chipotle' and it would take up to a week for a refund.

I'm still a little scared to eat here since this location made national news not too long ago. However, we were nearby and I was hungry. They were about to close and were out of steak and white rice, but the food was fine. I'm giving them a 3 since the restaurant was a bit unkept and the servers were on the rude side.

i ordered a mobile order today, got to the restaurant, and the doors were locked. at noon. workers inside yet no one came to the door despite 5 people outside waiting for their food. no explanations at all-- we all had to end up leaving after someone driving by explained they had "run out of food"

I mean you guys are a chipotle (right?), which I LOVE and you guys get my order right 85% of the time and my pick on time 0% of the time 17 visits later , still waiting. I'm even coming 10 mins later than pick up time. What gives? NOTE: This is not against the staff there who is doing their very best. This is all on Corporate Chipotle (better algorithm on pick up time, you think you'd be the experts in this by now based on the number of orders at a location) and the Managers at this location who can't replicate personal based on the need. There is a pandemic going on, and people don't want to stand in line or wait in your store. Add more people to the online food preparation area.

To see the line out the door when I was cashing out at the register brought me great joy. THERE'S A SIGN ON THE DOOR SAYING YOU'RE OPEN UNTIL 11PM, yet at 8:30pm the line is running low & they're stating they're "out for the night". Dude, I saw the lettuce behind you. You're not out, you want to close early so " you're out". All the results of poor management. I hope that long line of Powell moms, probably ordering for the family, brought hell.

The last two times I visited this location they were out of food. The last trip they were out of chicken and grilled onions and peppers. This trip they were out of cheese, chips and grilled onions and peppers. Service was slow and no one was friendly. I have learned my lesson and will not go back.

Awful experience per usual. This specific chipotle always has sub par food. Today they only had steak and the new Al pastor chicken and only had hot salsa, sour cream and guac. No options whatsoever. Wouldn't even grant a discount or free guac for the lack of customer service and options available.

I struggle with this Chipotle restaurant. I like Chipotle's menu, but this location has struggled over time. Stopped in the evening to place two orders about an hour and a half before closing. First order was soft tacos. They didn't have tacos! So, the person taking the order got creative and took a burrito wrap and tore it into three triangles to make the soft taco shells. Creative, I will give him that. They only had half the regular ingredients that they would usually have. Half the meat options were not ready or available. Only had one type of rice. They scrapped the bottom of the pan for black beans. Only the corn salsa was available. No sour cream. Disappointing. And the staff ... quite chummy with each other and not as attentive with patrons, (unless they knew them from school). This place is really sad. As I think about my experiences with Chipolte at other locations, this location could do so much better but has really struggled. Because of that, I tend to choose some other local restaurant than here because there are so many more options available.

Went in and there was no line at about 4. I definitely understand why. Staff is rude. When I asked the employee to put double the amount of fajitas he put in my bowl he added (not exaggerating) 2 more pieces of onion. I asked for extra fajitas 4 times and each time he gave me 2 more pieces even when I said "double the current amount in my bowl." He had to be high. I asked for light sour cream and he put a large helping on, seemingly to spite me, then promptly left the line without saying a word. I waited for about a minute and another employee came to the register to ring me out. While I was checking out a third employee bumped into me from behind and didn't bother even saying excuse me but did give me a side eye. The employees I've interacted with here are a nightmare and I'd give this place a negative score if I could.

I may be a little biased giving Chipotle a 5 star review but I have a point towards it. Chipotle deserves these 5 stars because they give you so much food in a bowl compared to my recent experience with a Mexican food truck named Tortilla who gave less. Why am I biased? It may be because I've eaten Chipotle longer than the Tortilla Food Truck to know the customer service is good and the food has improved lately. The added the queso dip to the menu, which I didn't care for but at least they make up for it with the other meats and sides. For $8.50, I'm getting more food in a bowl than for $9.50 at Tortilla Food Truck. Therefore, it's a without even thinking about it, Chipotle is definitely going to be my go-to place for lunch or dinner.

I love Chipotle. The fresh ingredients, the rapid fast service, the smiles of the workers & the modern design all make me feel at home in this place. Having frequented this place [too] often, I've had a chance to interact with the management and some of the cooking staff. Their passion for cooking really shines through. One of the cooks there used to be training to be a chef, but then grew very passionate about quality foods and landed on Chipotle as a place to work. Very impressive. *A Chipotle secret: Order extra rice. Look at it this way: rice is the landing pad of all the rest of your burrito or bowl, so if you make that landing pad a bit larger, it takes more of everything to cover the landing pad. Conversly, if you want a bit of a lighter bowl or burrito, just ask for "only a little bit of rice."

Will this location ever have guacamole?? Numerous times we have placed a to go order or delivery and there is never any guacamole. Even on one occasion there were several employees and one female employee was doing all the work. Things just seem a little unorganized here. Not sure how but through it all the food is good.

I would not recommend this location. We asked for a burrito with steak and they gave us the old/cold bits in the bottom of the tub. When we asked for fresh steak they told us they would charge us for double steak which is absolutely ridiculous. Don't give someone the scraps then make them pay more for the product they deserved in the first place. By this point their attitudes towards us were far from friendly and we just wanted out of there. Also, I know every chipotle follows the same recipes but I don't think they followed theirs...I got the corn salsa (which isn't typically super spicy) and there were so many peppers in it that it was almost inedible.

I work in the area so have given this chipotle many many chances. Place sucks. Every chipotle from Delaware to 161 all suck. Used to be my favorite spot, now rice is hard, skimpy servings, yucky chicken, out of half the stuff and it seems the online orders are taking over any chipotle. I would be totally cool with that and ordering online BUT when doing that I get even less meat than normal and my bowl Is about 1/3 full cause they don't have any of the fixings! I am sad to say this but I think chipotles are burning here and I hope someone can help them all cause it's my favorite when it's good!

I was extremely dissatisfied with the service, the portions, the price, and more. I walked in one day and they were so slow at making the orders. They didn't have any cheese or fajitas, but if you looked at the back where they made online orders, and they had portions of both. When I got a burrito, I ordered rice and got half of a serving of rice. They have been so stingy with the portions lately and especially the meat. I was getting salsa on top of my order and the worker put about 3 drops on. I asked for more and he put 1 more drop on and then got distracted. I asked for lettuce and then the worker filled it up the rest of the way to make it seem like a bigger burrito. Lately this Chipotle has been really disappointing and I don't plan on coming back anytime soon. The one on Sawmill Rd is much better. Do better.

My last two visits I waited 45 minutes after the app said the order would be ready and watched dozens of people walk in and order the old fashioned way. Deleted the app.

so terrible- didnt have tomatoes, veggies, chips, guacamole, and wouldnt give the vinaigrette because they didnt have chips, they had tomatoes but would only put them on the bowls that were ordered online, workers were rude about it. maybe make some more food oh and workers arent getting paid anymore for denying a customer some tomatoes thanks.

OK SO there i was in the line and this big hairy viking lookin dude was on the grill and his brittle beard hairs were falling all over the chicken and i was like "oh shit i aint evn gotta pay for that whatta deal"so i got double chicken and then straight up FEASTED on this viking's beard hairs.

Placed an online order. They were running way behind and it was going to take 30 mins to get fast food. No one was able to help or assist with canceling the order or allowing me to go through the normal line . I will not return.

Last review I promised not to mobile ever again. Did it again, shame on me. At 7:30pm on a Sunday they were doing such a poor job managing the line that it was to the door. The guy working the register told me not to stand while I waited. What? Then he very rudely told an employee in front of everyone he was going to get fired for a health code violation if he didn't learn to appropriately stack the trays (he was doing great). What? Same guy was super rude to a customer who asked for a copy of her receipt "IT'S ALREADY IN THE BAG!" I try to be patient but between the 15 minute wait on a mobile order placed 30 minutes prior, chewy stale chips and the terrible customer service I've got to start driving to 23...
