7 New Things To Do & Eat In Chicago This Week April 13, 2021

"During the pandemic, Chitown Futbol club in Pilsen transformed into a drive-in movie theater called Chitown Movies. And even though the soccer club has reopened, they’ve decided to keep the movies going. This week they’re showing the classics Ferris Bueller and Friday the 13th. During the movie you can order food like popcorn, tacos, wings and pizza to be delivered to your car. Or, consider stopping by 5 Rabanitos (one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in the city) before or after the movie instead." - adrian kane

This place is a hidden gem! I went for the first time on the 4th of July, it's a fun time. The screen is obviously not going to be as bright as your TV at home... but its a great experience you can sit in your car and smoke and chat with friends which you obviously can't do in a theatre. They also bring food to your car which is nice. The hosts are also very sweet and helpful. Will definitely be coming back!!

Google
Got a discount but still paid about $32 they’re normally $40-$55. Staff was nice and concessions were very cheap. However, other patrons were blasting music during the movie and had lights on during both movies and cause several obvious disruptions and distractions. Had I known it was going be this small and this low of quality on the video I would have saved my money or gone to a better drive in worth the price of admissions. Several times during the first movie and several people keeping their lights on during the second movie. I had good expectations and was thoroughly disappointed and will more than likely not come again.

Google
Genuinely so disappointed with my experience tonight. Saw this place and the good reviews it had and bought a ticket to see a movie with friends (paid extra for buyers protection) and we ended up not even seeing the movie. Sound wasn’t working and it was a “5 minute delay” while we ended up waiting over an hour, just for them to say it was going to continue to be delayed (no refund issued, and no way to access a refund even with my buyers protection). Along with that, Everyone in my car had multiple food orders that all came, yet I ordered a hotdog and fries that never showed up after an hour and a half and telling every staff member we saw. So disappointed, especially considering the great reviews this place had.

Google
Amazing place! I was looking up a cool place to see and a movie and saw this place. The ticket price isn’t too bad per car and getting to the place isn’t too difficult. You tune into the sound through your radio, but if you don’t want to keep the car running, they will lend you a radio if you give them your id, but it is free! The staff were also super helpful and welcoming, I couldn’t figure out how to turn my parking lights off but they helped me find the parking brake and turn it off! The food is also very good. You order online and you get a popcorn for free with every order. We got wings for a really good price and they were very big and very tasty, a frozen mango cup, delicious and cheap, and the popcorn which was free and amazing. I have also heard that the tacos are really good. The food is brought to you so you can just stay in your car and watch your movie! The screen is also big and the parking is spread out enough that you don’t feel cramped. Overall, an amazing place to see a drive-in movie with great staff and food! Definitely will be going back!

Google
Upon arrival you choose where to park and the attendants will let you know which cone/spot you have. W/ the spot # you can place an order through the QR code menu given upon arrival. Overall, it was a great experience that we would do again minus the kitchen. The paper did not match the QR menu, food took an hour to come out (no warning or apology issued until asked about the wait) and we weren’t impressed w the taste. Hoping the next time food won’t be an issue because we love the experience otherwise. Def worth the night out!

Google
This place is great! I’ve been here multiple times and really enjoyed my experiences and the selection of movies they’ve had to offer. The employees are very kind, the service is wonderful, and the food is fantastic! The Notebook was perfect for a date night and Jurassic Park was a classic to enjoy with my family. The sound of the movies plays from your own FM car radio, but if you own a pick-up truck and would like to sit in the bed, it may be harder to hear. I suggest bringing a separate radio to enjoy the full experience. Can’t wait to come back!

Google
I come every Friday to see my boyfriend play. The wings here are so good! Had an issue with the kitchen staff but reached out to management and Erick was great! He handled it and made sure that I had a great experience. That 1 star went to 4 stars quickly!

Google
Stumbled upon this hidden gem a few years back... we love it! Friendly and helpful staff, plenty of roomy parking, great film selections and an overall great time! I'd gladly give them 5 stars except for the following...we need outdoor toliets..its a far and imo kinda spooky walk to the inside restrooms....louder sound because sometimes it's difficult to get the radio station to hear the movie...fine tune the food selections and stream line the food service in general. But honestly I'm looking forward to going this year, and I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a fun time!

Yelp
Having grown up going to drive-ins and the fact that they were showing "Grease", the movie my kid made me watch every single night for 3 years when she was a toddler, there was no way I passing up the opportunity to take her here. Located on the lower west side of Chicago in Pilsen, it should come as no surprise that the tacos they sell here are really good. Pilsen has the largest Hispanic population in Chicago. While the ($3.50) tacos are small, they are legit. I also loved the ($1) cups of frozen mango. Tacos and mangos are not what you might think of as "movie theater food", but I gotta say, it was way better than the options I'm accustomed to. We paid $33 for our sedan and got a front row. They ask that you politely turn your car off during the movie. With it being summer, this meant the windows and sunroof had to remain open or we'd overheat. No problem. It became a little comical when my car filled up with my neighbor's weed though. Close the windows and suffocate or just leave them open and bask in the smell? Weed won

Yelp
It was a nice experience for those who haven't ever been to the drive in before. The film was good, food choices were okay, and the setup was nice. I noticed some people set up outside of their vehicles in lawn chairs and blankets....that never crossed my mind. It may be a whole vibe

Yelp
It's been quite some time since I've been to a drive-in theater! Sadly, all of my favorite places have closed down over the years. It was nice to have that experience again! While this place isn't the old school multi screen, double feature, carnival atmosphere I remember, it definitely hits the spot when it comes to the full experience! The staff was very helpful and organized. It helps greatly that their booking system has you select your preferred viewing spot in advance so you can be quickly "ushered" into position. The lot is very dark which makes for optimal viewing of the screen even being so close to the city that the Sears Tower peaks through the buildings. Yet even being dark and quiet, it also feels very safe! The food service is set up to be convenient as well as efficient. And it's actually decent food for a "theater/venue". I love a great, different way to experience the various parts of our wonderful city, and this place did the trick! I can't wait to watch movies here more often!

Yelp
Went to see favorite movie Grease. Had an excellent time. The employees were super nice and helpful. We ordered food which was great and also received a free bag of chips because our nachos came late. Definitely would recommend. Definitely coming back

Yelp
We saw Ferris Bueller's day off and had a blast! I recommend getting there at least 30-40 minutes early to pick a prime spot in the lot. We had some trouble because my car radio wasn't working, but the employees were kind enough to let us borrow a handheld radio for audio. Maybe it was because it was a week day, but I thought it was strange they only played one movie. I wasn't ready to leave by the time it was already over. Typically at other drive ins they play more than one movie back to back but it wasn't that big of a deal to us considering tickets were reasonably priced. Ferris buellers day off is my favorite movie, otherwise we probably wouldn't have gone. I learned about it through the Chicago bucket list Instagram. They always have features with promotions!

Yelp
Unique and cozy concept! It rained when I went but it was still a good time. You can definitely bring snacks nobody actually checks.

Yelp
I've always wanted to do a drive in movie and it has been on my bucket list for awhile. They said movies will be played rain, snow, or shine. My bf and I enjoyed our experience and we chose the earlier movie because we had dinner plans after. It was covid friendly and you can order food if need be by calling and they will deliver it to your car. It was snowing pretty heavily when we went and because of this reason, it was really hard to see the screen. Unfortunately we were parked all the way in the back too and the screen was a bit dark. We will definitely be back

Yelp
I have come here a few times during Covid, during Halloween and during family nights. Always a great experience, a great way to get out of the house while staying socially distanced. Food delivery is great! No need to leave your car, they bring it right out to you. Hoping to come much more in the future.

Yelp
We (my boyfriend, dog and I) went to see a movie at ChiTown Movies drive-in on a Friday night. We had a great time, and even though we were about 2/3 of the way back in the parking lot, we had a great view of the screen with minimal obstructions. Upon arrival, we were given a piece of paper with instructions for getting audio for the movie and ordering food and drinks. Parking spots were tight, but there were staff to help guide us into the spot. The staff were very friendly. All of the food and drinks were very reasonably priced. I was really surprised at how cheap food/drinks were, and especially at how great the food was. We ordered asada steak nachos, 3 chicken tacos, a small popcorn and two Corona's. While the food order took longer than the 10 minute estimate listed on the piece of paper we were given upon arrival, food came out fairly quickly (~25 minutes for the nachos, tacos and beer, and ~10 minutes for the popcorn we ordered later). The nachos were delicious and loaded up with beans, guacamole, salsa, sour cream, etc. The tacos were served piping hot, and with an optional side of hot sauce. All of our food was delivered straight to our car after ordering online - a very seamless experience. The only challenge we almost faced was opening our Corona's - they arrived to us without the bottle tops removed, and they were not twist tops. Thankfully, my boyfriend has a bottle opener on his keychain, but something to keep in mind in case you aren't quite as prepared. Overall, this was a great date night and something fun and different to do. Ticket prices are by car, so if you're going with just two people, the price may be a bit high. However, if you load up your car and bring the whole crew, this is a very affordable night out and just a ton of fun! We can't wait to go again soon! NOTE: My ticket price and a small popcorn was free through a promotion from Yelp Elites that my boyfriend had. I was not otherwise paid or compensated for my review.

Yelp
This is a review for the drive in movie. I really appreciate that venues like this one put their creative juices to work to provide socially distanced experiences during covid times. Google chitown movies and you can find their movie listings. Overall it's pretty organized. The food was standard bar food. Tacos were pretty tasty but kind of small. Cheeseburger was pretty standard, like one you would get at a backyard bbq. You get a free (albeit overly buttered) small popcorn. You order online and they bring the food to your car. The movie was on a nice big screen and they broadcast sound via FM radio. They tell you to leave your engine off and radio on but this made my car automatic power down to conserve battery. So I had to turn my engine on. Didn't use very much gas through the two hour movie. One problem was I could barely see what was going on because of the glare of the ambient city lights. Might be best to pick a relatively bright movie, heh.

Maya E.

Yelp
Extremely accommodating! - gave us a radio in exchange for an ID - gave us notice about a movie change - voucher for food (which isn't wonderful but does the job) I recommend for a cute date night.

Brian S.

Yelp
We found this place during the pandemic and now it's a place we frequent on the weekends. I am an avid drive-in theater type of guy and having this place fills my need so I don't have to drive 1 1/2-2 hours out of the city to enjoy such an experience! Very BIG thank you to ALL who make this happen and I wish them nothing but success!

Yelp
This has been my go-to place during COVID. The most fun drive-in movie theater ever. People are so nice and run a great place. The food is so good! So, so, SO good. I love all the tacos but Al Pastor is my favorite for sure. Nachos are so good too. Not a bad item on the menu frankly. And they deliver it straight to your car! Amazing!

Elliot R.

Yelp
Terrible customer service, very rude staff members. Was really looking forward to a fun night, but was unpleasantly surprised by how poorly set up the event was. Food delivery never came, what a waste!!

Cicele B.

Yelp
This 100% what my lil' family needed. We came for the Halloween special event and it was perfect. As many people have stated, they are really organized and each of the employees we interacted with was very helpful and friendly. We had such a good time, it was one of those rare moments where I was able to completely unplug and forget all the things. Would love to come back!

Stephen T.

Yelp
Cool place to go to and watch a movie (they ha e a great selection too). They deliver food to your car so you don't have to leave. Dog friendly and staff was friendly and helpful.

Yelp
LOVE this drive in movie spot! Best wings in the city!! Such a fun family spot during COVID.

Glam N.

Yelp
Such an amazing time on both occasions! Met the manager Kimo and he was so nice and wanted to make sure that all the patrons had what we needed and knew how to navigate the space. The staff were all nice and accommodating. Will definitely be coming back throughout the summer! Perfect for date night and they play lots of classic movies!

Ozzy S.

Yelp
Been coming here for the last couple years! Always a good selection of movies, great service, kind staff, and excellent food. Would highly recommend, best drive in in the Chicagoland area!

Daniel P.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I love this place!!! This used to be our secret spot but we had to tell all out friends and we all love it!! They have great movies, great food, super friendly, and we love that you can see the sears tower from the lot. We've been here multiple times and never get tired of it! One of the best places to go with your dare or just family :)

Bruno M.

Yelp
This has been a great place to take our kids to see movies on the weekends. Good movie choices, good at getting you in and out of the spots, and the walk-to-car service for orders is quick. The tacos are way better than you'd probably expect for a drive in, too.

Yelp
My daughter plays LiL Kickers soccer here. We've been coming for about 2 years now. Great group of coaches. Her former coaches always remember her when they see her in passing. She doesn't know it but, she will be playing soccer here and afterwards for a very long time. Totally keeping her in the program. We had her 3rd birthday party here also. They helped set up and tear down the party, gave a coach for 45 minutes with the children and we had plenty of seating. She had an awesome party. There is a little food station in the building. I LOVE THE FOOD HERE!!! Get something! A taco or whatever and you will love it!

Yelp
For my review, I'm speaking from the perspective of a Chicago Fire supporter. ChiTown is a quiet nugget tucked away in Pilsen that hosts two indoor soccer fields and an area that hosts boxing, music/dance parties and Chicago Fire away game watch parties. They also hosted the 2011 Chicago Fire Season Ticket Holder Meet-the-Team event at the beginning of the Season. Food is good and priced comparably to a local restaurant (no reference to any particular place.) I can vouch for the burritos and tacos. Beer prices are fair. Facility is spacious and they have a decent sized locker room/restroom area. For watch parties, they have a 10'x30' projector screen and space to host 200-odd people. The owner has been very accomodating and friendly. Overall, I like ChiTown. I'm glad its here.

Vivienne R.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were there last night to watch a drive-in movie. The movie was awesome and the drive-in was clean, convenient, well-organized, and a really fun date-night. Restroom and snack facilities were easy to access, safe, and clean. Additionally, after the movie, our car broke down. Chitown Futbol staff (led by owner Jose Perez) stayed an additional three hours helping us try to jump it, hanging out and keeping us company, and eventually called a local friend to tow our car- and, further than that, drove us to the place where the tow truck dropped the car off! They were incredibly kind, friendly, and professional, and really went the extra mile. It's a great local place to support in these difficult times and we can't recommend it enough!

Lizett V.

Yelp
Good sports good teams. Horrible food!!!!!!!!!!!!Found 2 pieces of hair in the food. Swallowed one and yes I got my money refunded but I recommend not to buy food from here. Cooks get paid not so badly the hour and cook food all day long with dirty hands. Word of advice buy food elsewhere then come for practice and also before the drive in movie theater. Many complaints have been brought to manager.People constantly return food because workers are madly disgusting. Yes, workers are socially respected. But people should be Aware that the food can come with an ant or a piece of hair. Should of took a picture but it was to late already stuck down my throat pipe. Other piece was thrown out at drive in movie theater. Do not recommend food but popcorn and slushees.

Alfreda D.

Yelp
My football, not futbol, team rented a field for practice one night. It was fine but not good or great. I don't know how folks wear cleats in this space. The floor was crazy hard and it was difficult to cut back and forth. There was too much risk of injury.
google avatar

Alvaro A.

Yelp
Good indoor field. They have a big and a small fiend. The small one is $75. There are nets all over so you don't have to chase the ball. It's perfect if you are over 25 and in bad shape since you won't run much.

Anahi D.

Yelp
Great place for drive in movie, friendly staff, good food, and cool movies. Highly recommend!

Yelp
ChiTown Futbal is unique find. I've lived in the South Loop for more than six years and I just now found this local spot. It would help if you called your complex ChiTown Soccer instead of Futbal. When I'm searching for places to play soccer, the word Futbal isn't normally a part of my vernacular, especially with that spelling. The "futbal" arenas are in an old warehouse or industrial building. I think it provides a lot of charm as compared to the newer arenas, which sometimes look like a light wind will tear the place apart. It's definitely a little old and I'm sure the place has seen better days, but that's how a well loved sports complex is supposed to look and feel. Another highlight of ChiTown Futbal is the cook in the concession stand. He knows how to make one hell of a breakfast burrito. It's dripping with grease from the chorizo, but some mornings that's just what you need.

Yelp
BEWARE!!! On 3/11/15, I purchased a Lil Kickers soccer party for $250 through ChiTown Futbol that was scheduled to take place on April 11, 2015. I paid for this party in full on 3/11/15. On the day of the party, ChiTown Futbol used my debit card to charge me an additional $600 for this party, in 5 separate charges; (4) $100 charges, and (1) $200 charge. When I called this business the following day, I was told that the $600 was being refunded to my debit card and that any fees charged to my account due to their error would be refunded as well. Two days later, I received a refund of $400. I called back and spoke with the owner, Jeff Walsh, who apologized profusely and stated that he was working on correcting this issue and that I would have the $200 refunded to my account in a couple of hours, plus he would refund any fees and the cost of the party as well for my troubles. Two days later, on April 15, I still had not been refunded the $200 or the $250 as promised by the owner. I called back to speak with the owner and was sent to his voicemail. I left a message for him to call me back with an update regarding my refund. He has yet to return my call or my money. update: I received a call from an employee this past Monday stating he would refund the cost of the party. I have yet to receive this refund or any follow up from the owner. I now have to file a lawsuit

Yelp
I have been playing at Chitown for 5 years now and I enjoy the atmosphere and competitive play. The taco's from the restaurant are most likely the best in town!
