Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream

Today I was here to enjoy a delicious ice cream to end my Sunday. I am with my family in a place where we were very well received and attended to, trying the different flavors they have here. They offered us a glass of water... I can say that if you are looking for a different place, this would be it... I will love its atmosphere, its decoration and music. Thank you for your attention, which is the same for everyone every day. You were very kind. I enjoyed a cone of coconut almond bliss ice cream. Thank you very much, guys!!!

This place is awesome! It’s a whole vibe. Little pricey, but you pay for the atmosphere and the ice cream is DELICIOUS. I got the zoreo and it’s my new favorite ice cream of all time. Immediately after entering, you get a free sample of an amazing brownie and they gave us 5 samples of ice cream without even asking. Definitely worth the trip!

Dope little spot! When you first walk in the team is quick to offer you mini chocolates to enjoy. They offer SO many samples of whatever you want to try and aren’t pushy to go faster. Then they even come out to give you water to wash down the sweet treats. It’s cash only and could be a little pricy but makes sense with the area. Great vibes, but the music can be a little loud. I think it depends on who’s working that day lol

Never had better hospitality. The staff were incredible. Kept offering us samples proactively, water, hot chocolate. Charlotte and Tim ROCKED!!! Then the ice cream flavor selection was unparalleled! Stop reading and get driving to this place!

CASH ONLY but there is an ATM. Fantastic vegan selection! Great for gluten free too. They are so kind and gave samples of every vegan flavor. Having blue moon was so nostalgic. A great spot!

1st time here and they have the NICEST staff ever!! Offered water and a brownie sample when we walked in. CASH ONLY but ATM near the door. We got a waffle cone with chocolate and cherry scoops! They even offered our dog ice cream! 10/10! Will be back!

Amazing to place to begin with. Took forever to choose what to get because there's a lot of options. Staffs are nice and friendly. They keep on giving us samples and that make us hard to decide more. lol. They also keep offering you water. They have dining area but we preferred outdoor. Will never think twice in going back there.

Loved the staff but wow, incredibly expensive. Order two kids size scoops for a total of $18! And no card so there’s an ATM there where you can get cash. Honestly, not worth it. The ice cream is like any other ice cream, nothing special for the price and hassle

This ice cream shoppe is top notch. The ice cream is awesome, you're greeted with smiles and a sampling of something sweet to either eat or drink. The menu is extensive and it's fun to see the kids eyes light up when we walk in. This shoppe decorates for holidays so it's also a delight for the eyes. If you're in the area, stop in, you won't be disappointed.

Loses 1 star because they're cash only, which is a bit inconvenient. (They do at least have an ATM, but it charges a fee.) This is by far the coolest Chocolate Shoppe I've ever been in, and growing up in the midwest I've been to several. The murals and decorations are epic. I love that they have dairy free options for most of the ice cream flavors now too. Yes, it's pricey, but so is everything nowadays, and the ice cream flavors are just as good as I remember from 20 years ago. I just hope the employees are getting paid well for their work!

Shopper beware... I've been to this shop many times but this time I noticed some things that have convinced me to never return. 1- prices have increased tremendously for one scope they charged me $7.45 & I did not receive a receipt. 2- All the individuals serving behind the counter are children, which is not the problem. The problem is that NOT ONE OF THEM WASHED THEIR HANDS. They handled money, passed out samples, touched supplies, and then touched the very cones that go directly into your mouth - no paper barrier on these cones. With all the samples and crowds of people.. all of this is easily disguised. Ice cream fans beware!

While this place is really cool and has good ice cream I was very turned off by the owners attitude. He stood there with a mean look on his face which really was off putting. The new girl made our sundae and the owner took it from her scooped out some of the ice cream put it back and threw some of the whipped cream out. Could he have just told her it was too much? Very off putting to watch that.

All places should strive to treat their customers like they do at the Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream. I was so impressed with the staff that I spoke with the owner to inform him of the excellent service from them. He is very proud of the people that work for him. There are so many unique ice cream flavors and they are delicious! The decor is unique and fun as well. Definitely check it out!

The owner, Ron, and the entire staff are singularly focused on customer service. Their enthusiasm is genuine. The frozen desserts are luscious. The atmosphere is unique. Don't miss.

Gotta love an ice cream shop where a young lady walks around handing out ice cream AND brownie samples! The people working there seem really happy to be serving the customers, something you don't always see. Did I transport into a new Meow Wolf location??? This place is truly a gem. Everything is a curated installation art piece. I highly commend the creative genius behind this place. Their staff are absolutely the sweetest, handing out samples right as you walk in. The music selection was impressive and I caught myself writing down tracks to listen to later. Oh right, I forgot that there's ice cream! The ice cream selection is large with unique flavors, cones, bowls and sundaes to choose from. If I hadn't forgotten my emergency Lactaid you bet I would have finished that birthday cake cone dipped in white chocolate. It was heavenly. Next time I'm in Chicago I look forward to visiting again and seeing what new designs they come up with (I heard they rotate).

All the ice cream here are great. They have cakes as well as fudge and chocolates. Service is always been good. Cash only but they have an ATM inside the shop too.

CASH ONLY! They do have an ATM on premise but make sure you have cash. This place is bonkers. the theme now I believe is Evil Ice Cream as the decor implies. Great music, great lighting. Just a fun vibe. Definitely good for the gram. No wait when we arrived on a Sunday around 915. Plenty of outdoor seating. Also had indoor seating, easy street parking with a lot on the side of the building. As soon as we entered, we were greeted with somebody offering us a sample of a brownie, which tasted delicious. There was a small at the counter to order, but as I was looking at the flavors the order taker with curly hair, assisted me and offered me a sample of Rocky road. Tonight we tried the Zanzabar chocolate and the salted caramel cashew, but it has a different name. Super fun. Lots of families definitely check it out. I think we actually saw a TikTok video about this place and the theme.

It's our closest neighborhood ice cream spot and we used to enjoy proximity + fun ambiance, flavor variety and free samples - which helped offset cash only and higher prices. However, the cost is just too high to warrant returning. $29 for two single scoop cups and one junior scoop is nuts. The previous time we were there was with a larger group where we were mostly ordering for kids and thought we had more than enough cash on us, then found ourselves emptying our pockets and pooling together every last dollar to cover. Such steep prices leave you with an "ick" feeling - just not with it! For ice cream outings, we'll be heading to Sugar Rae's, Village Creamery, any of the solid options in Park Ridge or even traveling 20 minutes to Jeni's for special occasion higher-end (but still not even quite as steep) delicious flavors.

This place has been the sport for about as long as I can remember. Remember when it was a Baskin Robins? I do. Regardless the decorations are beyond reproach! From the cups of water to the brownies and tastes of ice cream you won't be unhappy. The people working here always strive to make sure you are happy. Just remember...they are cash only.

Cute ice cream shop with fun decor inside. They bombard you with more ice cream samples than you actually want, which isn't a bad thing. But you can probably get enough ice cream from all the samples alone. The ice cream is surprisingly expensive though for pretty basic flavors. They have quite a few chairs outside on the sidewalk to enjoy your ice cream when the weather is nice, too.

This shoppe is setup as a highly stimulating immersive art installation. You have been warned.

If you're a fan of rich chocolate ice cream, the Zanzibar Chocolate here is so good I forgot to take a picture before starting to eat it. The bit of green was from the Pistachio Nut. That was okay. I've had better Pistachio ice cream elsewhere. My wife had the vegan chocolate chip oatmeal cookie which was delicious and very much tasted like an oatmeal cookie. Service was great and we were given a free bite size brownie and offered ice water while we sat on the Adirondack chairs outside. Quite the interior decorations and paintings. Spooky, halloween-ish vibes. We liked it. Great local spot to stop in for solid ice cream.

I've loved this place but the prices are way too expensive they charged $7.85 for a regular scoop which looked like a child's scoop. I've been here plenty of times it seems to be getting pricier and being served significantly smaller portions. I was extremely disappointed.

The staff here were great--kind, helpful, and professional. Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by the owner's behavior. He was openly rude to employees and yelled at them in front of customers, which created an uncomfortable atmosphere. Because of the way staff were treated, I wouldn't return.

Nice place in the area to get some good ice cream. Lots of flavors which can make choosing a little overwhelming! The vibe and decorations inside is cool, definitely a hit with my 11 yr old when we went! I saw they had some other desserts too- some cookies and cakes in the front. Keep in mind that this is CASH ONLY!!! knowing this before you go in will save you money. They have an ATM in the shop, but it charges a $3 charge to withdraw money and then my bank charged me another $2.50 to withdraw. I also was a little displeased with the prices; for two of us we each got one scoop on a sprinkle cone and it was over $20- I had to go back to the ATM just for another $2. Outdoor seating is a nice touch especially in the summertime.

My daughter warned me about the decor when walking in lol . It a little different. We were greeted by a tray of brownie bites. Yum! then the cutest man kept giving us samples of the ice cream selections. What an experience. I usually stick to the same old thing but I fell in love with a strawberry hibiscus, a lemon meringue, and a vegan chocolate chip oatmeal! love love love this place. I have always past by and did know it was there. New customer for life!!!

We loved the staff's courtesy and the whimsical layout of the venue. The staff, on that day, offered us a free brownie sampler while we decided which ice cream flavor we wanted. Unfortunately, the price for a small single scoop was nearly $7 per person. While the ice cream was yummy, I can't justify returning back to pay that much money.

Wonderful, I love the vibe and staff. Not to mention the samples they have of brownies or water. The icecream is divine there and I've never tasted a bad one from there. 10/10 recommend going there.

4.8 The best so far. I have been comparing the best Vanilla ice creams this summer. Top three are, Chocolate Shop, Tillamook, followed by Ben and Jerry's. All fantastic and so much better than the usual. Great Job!

Way over priced. One kid scoop and two regular scoops was $25. The ice cream quality was fine, but nothing extraordinary. The decor is scary for little kids. I grew up going to this place when it was 31 Flavors and even the owner after, who rotated decor. This was disappointing. The young kids working behind the counter were nice.

What you will definitely remember, outside of the quality ice cream selections will be the decor inside. They always have an eclectic theme that you can never forget because it's usually overly out there. Another great thing that you'll never forget it's the high quality service you get. They always go around offering ice water and/or samples of either their scrumptious desserts or their ice cream flavors. The ice cream flavors are just SO good. From the fat Elvis, to their Superman and so many others. The creaminess and tastes of all their ice creams are memorable and can't wait to go back.

You Scream, I Scream, We all Scream for Ice Cream!!!!!!! Talk about a super cool vibe paired with an exceptional service (Davianna). I drove 50 minutes through traffic on the Kennedy expressway to get to this place. My daughter and her friend were absolutely delighted to finally make it to this place. The soft music vibes were fun to compliment the incredible cloud and light decor of this sweet shop. Davianna, the ice cream expert, gave us the opportunity to try everything to make sure we were satisfied and made the best choice. All of these ice creams were delicious. Very rich in flavors but independent by their own right. We tried the brownies and took extra scoops home. The best part was her service!!!! So pleasant! So patient!!!! So kind!!!! I didn't feel bad at all about spending my money. They have an ATM machine so no worries if you don't have cash. I have been bragging about this place since I've visited. Thank you so much Davianna, you're one of thee best!

Lots of free tastings from brownie bites to icecream. Specialty choco dipped cones of all sizes. A treat but can get expensive. Cash only which I alway forget until I walk inside. There's a cash machine at the entrance.

The ice cream was delicious. A little pricy, but I'm fine with it. The service was phenomenal. We were greeted with brownie sample. Staff was patient as we were choosing our flavors. Water cups were also served. The decor of the store is not everyone's cup of tea, but you can definitely tell that a lot of work was put into it. The outdoor seating is really nice. Overall, I was really excited to try this place since I'd pass by many times and it didn't disappoint.

Okay, cool place, I SORT OF get the hype. The ice cream is good, but $15 good? Every time I drive past this place there's a line out the door so I finally gave it a try. Staff are nice, but it seems disorganized. This place is CASH ONLY which I feel like should be better labeled on the front of the business. I only knew it was cash only because of the awkwardly placed ATM at the door and looking on their Yelp page that CCs weren't taken here. They have a plethora of flavors, very unique. The ice cream is good, but my biggest complaint is the price. Why am I spending close to $7 for a small serving single size scoop? And the kids scoop isn't much less. 2 regular single scoops ran me $15. The ambiance and decorations are cool, I think I would come here once in a blue moon, but would not make this my staple ice cream shop. Plus the parking is a bit difficult on a busy day.

I've been going to this ice cream shop since I was a baby and there's a reason I keep coming back. The staff especially Mary who went out of her way to give us samples and brought out ice water. Go here the only ice cream shop that is a 10/10. From the decorations to the quality and how tasty it is, you will love it!

Delicious, fresh ice cream on a tasty vanilla infused waffle cone. Never had a cone so delicious. It tasted like vanilla inside the waffle cone. Nice selection of flavors. Weather was warm so staff went around asking if anyone wanted water they had provided for people sitting outdoors. Was a nice touch. The staff was attentive and nice. My and daughter and I LOVED it. It is our favorite go to ice cream place now. And yes, the decor inside was super artsy and fun. Found a parking spot easily.

This place has been a neighborhood treasure for years. The quality of the ice cream is amazing, and there are so many options to choose from. Service is always good, but there's usually only one person working and it's not uncommon for there to be a line out the door, so be ready to wait. Also, be ready with cash, as they are a cash-only establishment (don't worry, there's an ATM on site). Perhaps the best things about this place are the crazy cool decor (they really go all out at Halloween) and the fact that they come around with so many free samples that you could very well be full of sweets by the time you get to the front of the line. You really can't go wrong at the Chocolate Shoppe.

A really cool spot! The ice cream is absolutely delicious, plenty of seating indoors and out. The only reason for the lower rating was that my sundae was made with really ripe almost not so great bananas and the shake I requested was really soupy. I didn't feel like the workers there were able to listen thoroughly. Then again, the workers are really young and kind, trying their best. It's just that the orders are on the higher end price-wise so I'd want higher quality. Cool place tho!

Ice cream so good it can be 10 degrees freezing outside and you'll still find yourself craving it. They always greet you with a sample, recently it was a bite of their brownie I've had a bite of an ice cream sandwich in the past. It's a great way to introduce you to their lovely sweets. The ice cream itself is the best I've tasted with flavors for every palate. They have a huge selection at this shoppe including seasonal flavors and non-dairy options. They also have a display of baked goods ranging from brownies, cookies, chocolates, cheesecakes, and of course ice cream cakes. And if you want something besides your traditional cone or cup they have what seems like a dozen different dipped waffle cones, waffle bowls, cookie bowls, nearly any sort of sweet vehicle for you ice cream. Decor is not your typical ice cream place, it changes from time to time but the last time I was there I'm pretty sure the wall mural was Animal Farm inspired and there's always a few mannequins dressed by the window. The ceiling most recently was white and fluffy with a disco ball and lights, it's actually really pretty. Winter or summer frozen or baked dessert this is the place to go for a sweet tooth!

I'm kicking myself for not having come here before. I think the decorations kind of scared me away. There's some serious production value going on and there are some pretty out there visuals sometimes. That being said, the ice cream is delicious and like it says on their napkins and cups, don't bother checking calories-I did and it made me feel sad for a second before I took another lick of This $&@! just got serious. I mostly got it so I could cuss in an ice cream shop with impunity but the salted caramel ice cream with fudge pieces was really good. I would get it again, and not just for the name. I went with two scoops because if you're going to be eating ice cream, why not. I paired that with the Peanut Butter Cup, which made for a super rich combo. Got there, and since you're splurging anyway get a waffle cone.

My son & I went this past Sunday evening. Line was almost out the door, but moving at a smooth pace. However, they don't have a solid system of how they serve customers. It's like a free for all. I would expect them if they ask "who's next" prior to taking a customer. After waiting in line for approximately 15 mins, I had arrived to the front of the line. One of the employees (young lady) came to the register, and asked a random customer, who wasn't next & about 10 people behind me, what she wanted to order. I was really confused of how she thought that was ok. The ice cream is good- not really worth all the hoops that one has to jump though to get it. It's a cool looking shop, though!

Great please for REAL ice cream and so many flavors. Plus the inside decor is always something to behold. Many ice cream places are friendly to customers, but the employees of Chocolate Shoppe seem like they are happy to have you come inside and they give you a tour of their various flavors. The dark cherry is always the way to go.

The interior decor changes several times a year and walking in you will be immersed in a world of zombies, politicians, aliens..sometimes all at once. Make sure to try the "This $&@t just got serious" one of the best ice cream flavors I've ever had. Bring cash, no cc accepted.

I stopped in Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream yesterday with my husband. I am vegan so I had to call first to see if they had any vegan options. The owner picked up (Ron). When I asked if he has any vegan options, he was elated because he's been vegan for 55 years. He said, "Yup, come on in and I will take care of you. Just say you talked to Ron". When we got there a few minutes later, there were two employees walking around with a tray of brownie samples and cups of water. We also saw that he had so many flavors and cone options! We asked for Ron and he came out from the back and introduced himself. He is truly the sweetest, kindest man!! He asked one of his employees to give me and my husband a sample of each of the vegan flavors (at least 8). When I told him my favorites one are Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookie and Peanut Buddy, he told the employee to give me a quart of each. I told him that my husband and I will at least pay for our 1 scoop that we each got, but he did not let us pay for these either. I would support this man and his yummy treats any day! We thanked him and gave him a big hug. This is how you run a business and get returning customers - with kindness, hospitality, and love : )

Great ice cream. Dedicated service with free samples and water handed out by staff on trays. Quirky ambience. Worth repeat visits to see what creatively weird vision the owner concocts.

Please wear gloves. Touching money, doors, handles, everything and then sliced bananas with your bare hands to make a treat not sanitary. Thank you for making a change.

Delicious! I remember coming here as a kid around Halloween and i thought it was the coolest ice cream shop. I was happy to come again with my mini. The decor is interesting. The ice cream is so good and I loved all the waffles to choose from. I opted for Fat Elvis which was banana ice cream with chocolate & cashews. The mini got zoreo in a cup with worms & gummy bears. Both ice creams were super tasty. Will definitely be back at some point for more.

I had this place on a bucket list from forever ago. Had no idea what we were getting into this was an ice cream experience. Ambiance is pink and fun - I guess it changed seasonally. Service exceptional- we got several samples in the 30 minutes we were there. They had, on top of typical ice cream things, some lovely fancy brownies and espresso drinks. Everything we tried was phenomenal. The punkest ice cream parlor in Chicagoland and I mean that in the best possible way. Delightful.
