The Saddest Montreal Restaurant Closures for 2018 | Eater Montreal

"I was sad to hear about Chocolats Andrée closing — it was a Montreal institution." - Tim Forster

Chocolats Andrée, a Decades-Old Mile End Chocolaterie, Is Closing | Eater Montreal

"After nearly 80 years, the Mile End chocolatier Chocolats Andrée — a Parc Avenue institution opened in 1940 by sisters Madeleine Daigneault and Juliette Farand — is set to close for good on December 31; owner Stéphanie Saint-Denis, Daigneault’s granddaughter, cites the recent sale of the building (which she once owned) as the reason, though she says she is open to selling the company’s assets so someone else might keep the business running. The family-run shop has been led by women for all 78 years of its history and has stuck to traditional chocolates, continuing to temper, fill and dip using much of the equipment dating back to the original opening rather than following the younger generation’s experimentation with caramels and creams. Gazette critic Lesley Chesterman also broke the news on Twitter. Andrée remains open every day through December 31 except December 25, 26 and 30." - Tim Forster

This is a traditional chocolate shop. You won't find experimental flavors here, but classics like praline, cherry, and liquors. The craftsmanship is solid and focuses on the interior flavors, which are surrounded by chocolate (as opposed to other makers who use the flavor to meld flavors with chocolate). If you like sweet and traditional, you'll probably be excited here. If you're interested in bonbons that push boundaries or integrate flavor with chocolate, look elsewhere.

Not very familiar with the neighborhood, I find this chocolate factory unique. Don’t judge the location, you must enter and try their products. They have a great quality for a decent price. I would say that they’re one of the best in Montreal so far.

The dark chocolates were so good! Perfect sweetness level and does not leave a bitter aftertaste.

Nothing bad to say about this sober but perfect chocolate shop: the chocolates are of a very high quality, you have a choice of packaging, from the simple to the extremely elegant, service is immensely helpful and courteous, and there's a little café attached where you can savour your chocolates along with coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. Very much worth the visit.

Yelp
