Listen, I've been to Chomp more times than I can count. I went to the Warren Location before it was cool (years ago when they were only in Warren). It's way more accessible to me being in PVD now, the spot is easy to get to, there is street parking all over, now onto the meat of things.
Chomp... You guys do such a dang good job roping me in with your specials. They look absolutely amazing. You got me in the door the other night because my wife saw "Crab Rangoon Burger" and the rest was history, we made it in.
I was hungry. Which makes me worried. I asked the waitress for a recommendation, Stuffed Mushroom Burger, my dark horse, or the Fried Avocado Burger. To my surprise the Stuffed Mushroom Burger was recommended as being the heavier option. I went with it and BOY I was not prepared for how decadent and rich this burger was. It was simply amazing. I'd say it's 50/50 on whether or not I'm satisfied or left wanting more when I visit Chomp. Let me explain.
This burger was packed. PACKED with flavor. It had varying textures, the smash burger was perfectly caramelized, the artichoke spread lends the perfect amount of richness and the crispy fried onions gave just enough textural relief to the thick spread that it left me going back for each bite in record time.
However, this is not always my experience here. I'll admit, this visit was a 5/5. The burger was perfect for me and the field greens salad was delicious (A+ lemon vinaigrette).
I'd say the biggest gripe I have is the consistency and pricing. Sometimes I come in wanting the special, which uses all ingredients on their normal menu items, and I'm being charged $19 for a burger. That's a pricy burger!
To boot, if they have what looks like a drool worth chicken sandwich special going on, and I go in and pretty much get 1/2 the toppings or a small piece of fried chicken in my sandwich, I'm not a happy camper. It's happened more than once where I get a piece of fried chicken here that doesn't have any overhang with the bun. They wouldn't post their special with that pathetically sized piece of chicken, so why serve it to me in your restaurant? Expectations vs reality is a big thing at play here. I've had just as many 3-3.5 star food experiences here as I've had 4-5 star. So, keep that in mind. Chomp, I love you and you make some of the best burgers around. I promise this is coming from a good place.
All that said, slight inconsistency aside with portions and pricing. Service is always spot on, the space is nice. Casual but has its own level of sophistication about it- you wouldn't bat an eye at someone looking nice and dressed up here but you can also come in after a workout in some gym clothes. Most importantly, everything here always tastes very good in my opinion. Like I said, points off for inconsistent portion sizes (small piece of fried chicken, lack of crab rangoon on my wife's burger, sometimes things are a little under sauced etc.) and for the fact that I'm spending almost $20 for a burger. I highly, highly recommend looking at the online menu before your visit if it was their special that caught your eye. No word of a lie, one time I went in for the special and it was $22 or something like that. I was floored.
Food quality, off the charts. Value, eh. Service, amazing. Atmosphere, great.
