The Best Places to Eat and Drink in Alameda | Eater SF

"Chong Qing is very good at what it does, and that is hand-pulled noodles, spicy beef, thick broths, and dumplings. The dining room is sparse but service is warm. It’s impossible not to leave with a full belly and a full heart." - Meleyna Nomura

This place is tucked away on Park Street and is definitely a hole-in-the-wall restaurant that serves no-frills Chinese food. The atmosphere is quiet and casual, making it a comfortable spot for a low-key meal. One of the must-haves to order here is the cucumber salad. We also tried the zhajiangmian and the braised pork over rice bowl, both of which were very tasty with a lot of flavor. What I appreciated most was the portion sizes; they're satisfying without leaving you overly full. The service was really good, with staff who are very helpful in guiding you through the menu. The restaurant recently changed ownership, which seems to have improved the overall experience. The pricing is very affordable, especially given how expensive eating out has become these days – this place offers the best value. I'd highly recommend it for anyone looking for a tasty and affordable meal while craving Chinese food. A few things to note: street parking is the easiest option in the neighborhood

Google
Got the spicy beef noodle soup + century egg on tofu. Also got dumplings in chili oil on the side. The food hit just right and I definitely think this place is a hidden gem. They got the perfect chew on the knife-cut noodles and the owner's decades of practice definitely can be tasted from the flavorful broth. Mind you, most noodle shops around town have a very bland or run-of-the-mill broth, but they take their time here to make it right. The owner is also very cordial and offered free vegetables when I said I love eating bok choy. Definitely would recommend checking this place out!

Google
A hidden GEM! The food is incredibly fresh and flavorful - all hand made noodles, dumplings - everything from scratch. The owner Monica let me try her delicious cucumber salad and beef. She was so warm and personable, her family has been in the restaurant business for years. I’m surprised this place isn’t constantly packed. She even customized my soup to make it spicy 🥹🫶🏼 I found a new staple spot and will be bringing my family here!

Google
Overall 6/10 (where 5 is average and 10 is the best meal I've ever had) I got the Pickled Vegetables and Shredded Pork soup noodles and a Fried Tofu. Unfortunately the grill wasn't on for skewers (I dined early before dinner rush). Pickled Vegetables and Shredded Pork soup noodles - Broth wasn't that flavorful and looked and tasted a little like boiled dumpling water (which isn't necessarily bad). There was a lot of sesame oil and was too salty - Noodle texture was the saving quality. Great chew. Fried Tofu - There was a lot of tofu in each piece which was great. - It wasn't seasoned well. Quite plain; there was a sort of sweet soy oil at the bottom of the plate but being that it's fried tofu, it wasn't a great mix.

Google
Their beef noodle soup with the hand made noodles is delicious. I happy I finally tried this place and it’s so close to me. The wonton in chili oil is also delicious. The food is fantastic.

My wife was out of town and the kids were with the Grandparents and I had a craving for Chinese Soup Noodles, so after researching I decided to visit Chong Qing Noodle House. The restaurant is no frills, almost having diner vibes to it. Service is very friendly and responsive… Now to the food… I ordered the Crushed Cucumber with Garlic to start and the Pickled Veggies Shredded Pork Noodles with Medium spice. The Cucumbers are a 10! So good and would triple order it. The noodles are a solid 9! The noodles you can tell are freshly made and the broth is solid. The spice covers up a lot of the taste, which is a bit of a shame because on its own I think it would be very good. I’ll be coming back to try other offerings as the food is authentic and tasty!

Google
The service was unmatched. The staff was so kind. They saw us with our little one and offered us a little bowl of dumplings on the side. The quality of the Taiwan beef noodles was flavorful and packed with a beautiful balance of noodles and meat. It was a tad bit oily but its nothing unexpected. Their spicy wontons were also really tasty, especially with the vinegar and chili. Overall, the quality and portions were respectable.

Nikil S.

Google
This place is absolutely delicious, waitress gave us recommendations and told us what was good, and she was completely right. The Taiwanese braised beef noodle soup had extremely tender beef and was absolutely delicious. The star of the show was definitely the noodles though, they were fresh and chewy. Absolutely delicious

Yelp
My husband and I have only done takeout from Chong Qing in the past, and it's been a hot minute since I've visited my hometown. Yesterday we wanted to beat the heat, and decided to come to Alameda for the afternoon. We were set on coming to this place as we wanted to finally experience the food and restaurant in person. It is conveniently on Park St, but away from the main hustle and bustle of the downtown area. As such, parking is not hard to find. We arrived during the off hours around 3 pm, and were seated immediately. There were only a few people dining in during this time. I was craving a wood ear salad, and for my entree I chose the braised beef noodle soup, while my husband chose the Taiwan beef brisket noodle soup. We both got the spicy version. As for the noodles we both wanted the knife cut variety. The wood ear salad came out quickly, and the chili oil was sooo flavorful. However, I did notice that the dish didn't exactly look like the photo on the menu. Regardless, it was delicious and refreshing! We almost finished the wood ear salad before our soups arrived. As for the soups, mine arrived at our table about 15-20 min after the wood ear salad, and my husband's arrived slightly after. However, for whatever reason, they got my noodle choice incorrect. I asked for the knife cut noodles, but instead I received the thin ones. I am not one to complain about a dish unless it's a food safety issue, so I didn't ask for it to be returned, and simply made a mental note. My husband's soup came with the correct noodles, so we decided to try each other's noodles and compare. His were bouncy and chewy, while mine were more al dente, but still soaked up the broths very nicely. I'm glad we both chose the spicy version, as we really enjoyed their chili oil, and it imparted the broth with an amazing depth of flavor. My only true "complaint" would be that for the price we paid for these noodle soups ($18), I wish they wouldn't be so stingy with the meat. We brought leftovers home mainly because of the amount of noodles in the soups, which was awesome, but I felt like I had to "ration" the amount of meat I was enjoying because there were only three pieces in my bowl. Three delicious and melt-in-your-mouth pieces, but three nonetheless. For the mix up on the noodle type as well as the meat-to-dish ratio, I am giving this establishment 4.5/5 stars, but rounded up to 5 since we can't give 1/2 stars. Chong Qing Noodles House is a great, semi-quiet place to enjoy a hearty meal with authentic flavors, and I was intrigued by the BBQ menu. We will need to return to try that out next time!

Yelp
First time trying this place and what we had was delicious. 1. Braised pork rice - tasted just like what I've had in Taiwan. (Yes, though the restaurant is called Chong Qing, they do serve Taiwanese food too - I think it's because of joint ownership). Good portion size of rice, braised pork and egg together with preserved mustard greens. 2. Taiwan Beef Noodle Soup - yum! Definitely recommend having it spicy if you can handle it as it brings another level of flavor to the whole meal. They have the option of regular noodles or knife cut noodles. Go with knife cut fresh noodles! 3. Zha Jiang Noodles - this is a good option is you like something without soup and something for the warm weather. Regular noodles go best with this. They no longer serve skewers or bento boxes due to lack of employees and demand for those when they tried was low but also due to the cold wet weather for the last few months. They may bring it back if enough ppl keep asking them - so if you're a fan of skewers, ask please and they'll gather sense of interest.

Yelp
So much good food. We came for dinner on a Friday night. It was a nice day, so we ate outside. Service was great. She recommended the vegetarian noodle soup and it was so tasty. We ordered a side of crushed cucumber and shredded potatoes. We wanted to try the onion pancake, but they were out. We really enjoyed the food here. Although not much vegetarian options, we did leave pretty full with what we ordered. We need to come back for the onion pancakes!

Yelp
When I came here they told us they just opened and were still developing the menu so only some of the items listed were available. We had someone in our party that is vegetarian and they gladly made a non-menued special vegetarian-friendly soup noodle! They were very nice to us and I enjoyed my noodles! The restroom is located in the back and the outdoor area looks like it would be a nice place to hang out and eat as well. Would love to come back again!

Yelp
Easy parking on Park St on a Saturday night. Place only had a few other tables. Good service - water and order right away. Son had the beef noodles, wife the beef brisket noodles and me the won ton. All were excellent. I really liked the flavor of the won ton. Portions were a little on the small side though. Lady chef was super nice, checking on us to make sure we were satisfied. Prices are OK.

Yelp
The best beef noodles I have ever tasted. I have been to Taiwan and China and I have never tasted such delicious beef noodles. BUT the portion sizes are way too small. There were only 7 small pieces of beef . ( yes, I counted) For $18, there should be more beef and more vegetables. The bowls are quite small as well. They have been open for only a few months so there is still time for improvement before I try it out again. I hope they purchase bigger bowls and are more generous with the amount of beef they give!

Yelp
The broth and the house made knife cut(刀削) noodles are stars in the Taiwanese Beef Brisket noodle soup. The cucumber with the smash garlic is absolutely delicious. What scored the fifth star was the excellent server I had. She was helpful, bilingual, and extremely attentive. I never had to look for her. She did her job so well and that is so rare right now. I will be coming back with my family!

Yelp
Came here after going to Subpar alameda since it's right across the street and had a wonderful meal! Service is quick and helpful and the noodles are delicious. If you prefer thicker, knife cut noodles they are $1 more. The broth here is the real star of the show. The meat is braised to make the soup and the flavor is so rich and delicious. We added their chili oil in and it made it even better. The zha jiang noodles were good but maybe not my favorite and a bit too oily for me personally. It seems the braised beef noodle soups are the star of the show here anyways. There are booths and tables inside and I think the staff mentioned they recently opened or renovated two months ago. There is street parking and a parking lot across the street.

Yelp
Phenomenal. The handmade noodles were chewy and had a lovely texture and the meat was flavorful--savory and a lil sweet. The spicy noodles were mild in my opinion but they have chili oil on the table if you need more heat. I'll definitely be back for my hand made noodle fix!

Yelp
1635 Park St Alameda, CA 94501 My 2nd visit here was much better. It was just after 9pm, and the place was just closing. I popped in to hopefully try a different dish. The Mgr asked me to take my order to go, but they would accommodate me if I wanted to dine in. I agreed to do takeout, and the server took my order. I told her my last order didn't have much flavor. She advised me to adjust the spice level as much as I would like. I ordered #9, Braised Beef Noodle Soup, Medium Spice. The Mgr gave me instructions on heating it up at home. My soup was delicious! The added spicy broth enhances the flavor of the beef. The broth became deep, rich and savory. Okay, I have seen the light, and will never make that mistake again!

Yelp
We had noodles and wood ear mushroom appetizer. It was all so tasty. Omg, the soup is yummy.

Yelp
I heard lots of good things about this place so I was excited to give it a try. Food: 20/10 I like chili oil noodles and the one they have here has that Mala numbing spice but a hint of sourness which makes the spice not too overpowering. The spicy peanuts added more texture to the noodle dish. The noodles had a nice aldente texture. Not too chewy and not too soft. I especially liked how the chili oil sauce had good flavor, not just spice as the flavor. I enjoyed the two sides that I got because they complemented the noodles very well. The cucumber tasted refreshing and the sliced beef shank and tripe was tender. The fried chicken wings were over fried so they were just okay. If you have a mild or low spice tolerance then I suggest adding the chili oil sauce on the table to your noodles yourself. I can't wait to come back to try more of their menu. Ambience: 20/10 customer service A family friendly and cozy vibe. The workers treated our table like family and kept checking in on us and refilling our water. Parking: street parking or there's a lot nearby

Yelp
I thought everything was very tasty! When I arrived on Friday around 12, it was empty and was seated right away. Everything on the menu looked delicious but chose their most popular item and it didn't disappoint. Wish there was more meat and veggies, but really appreciate you get to choose thin or thick noodles!

Yelp
Cute little place in Alameda! Came on a Wednesday evening and was able to be seated right away, even with my group of 7 people. I ordered the #5 Zha Jiang noodles because I wanted a dry noodle. It was very flavorful, and the noodles were delicious. I also tried my friend's wide knife-cut noodle and I loved the q-ness of it! One thing to note is that the "chile" symbol is only on certain menu items on the menu, but mine was spicy even without the symbol - so my guess that everything is "Chong Qing" flavored with a little bit of spice, but the "chile" symbol ones are even spicier! Our group especially loved our waitress, she was super cute and gave us tips on how to eat the noodles! Mix your noodles right away to get the sauce coated!

Yelp
Without a doubt my new favorite Chinese restaurant in the Bay, and I've thoroughly explored Oakland & SF Chinatown! We got the #8 (Taiwan beef brisket noodles) at the highest spice level (it's really not spicy at all) with their hand pulled noodles and oh. My. Goodness. AMAZING!!! The vinegar in the broth was PERFECT, I didn't need to add my own seasonings whatsoever. We also got the fried pork and chili won tons which were also delicious! I'll definitely make the drive down here as often as possible!! Super happy to support this new small, local business. Also shout out to the service, because it was some of the best I've gotten in a long time. So kind!

Yelp
I had to write a review as I am sitting here in the restaurant eating the noods right now. It's sooo good. I ordered the braised pork ribs and hand cut noodles (#8) and I have to say that I am a big fan of the noodle texture. It's chewy goodness. The broth was also on point. Service was also good and pretty chill tbh. I also ordered the pig ears just to meet the minimum $20 when paying with credit card. Oh, and the hours don't really match up on Yelp. It says they're closed today however I walked by and noticed that they're open. I did bring that up to their attention and they said there is new ownership so it hasn't been updated. Just fyi.

Yelp
It was a cold day, so wanted to eat something warm with soup. The service was great, my party was seated and immediately served tea while looking at the menu. I had the beef noodle with hand pulled noodles and the Zha Jiang Noodles. The Zha Jiang noodles came out warm with the noodles cooked well in terms of chewiness and texture. The pork had lots of yummy flavor as well. The beef noodle was great as well, the hand pulled noodles were cooked perfectly and the braised beef was tender and flavorful. Would definetly come again.

Yelp
This particular location turns over frequently and is usually some sort of Asian cuisine. All of the rave reviews, piqued the interest but ultimately was a big let down. Both beef noodle soups were disappointing and underwhelming. If you like heavy mala flavor then you'll enjoy the broth. There were only a few pieces of beef. At least they give a lot of noodles. The hand cut noodles were rather thin and not air-y. The wontons again seemed like the same flavor and sauce as the broth, a bit too much mala. Service wise, it's decent not very busy on a Saturday for lunch and still took a long time to receive food and bill. They have a tiny parking lot that can only fit about 3 cars. Given the prices and food, will not be returning.
google avatar

Marc G.

Yelp
Went during a busy time, Friday night, and it seemed as if they were short staffed so we had to wait for our order but it was worth the wait, in my opinion. The taste of the food was great. We got the wonton in spicy chili oil and crushed cucumber salad as our appetizer. Both were a great start to the meal. We ordered the braised beef noodle and Zha-jiang noodle. Both dishes were good and the first two items listed on their main entree menu. I would come back again!
google avatar

Sandy A.

Yelp
Cute little noodle place. Really enjoyed the flavor of the knife cut Chongqing noodles and the cucumber. Quick and very friendly service. Only one star off because they got one of our items wrong even though they asked multiple times. They have bbq and hotpot 5pm-midnight in the outdoor area. Would be really fun to experience.

Yelp
I wandered in around 6 PM on a Sunday, finding ample seating and a calm atmosphere. But don't let the initial quiet fool you; within minutes, the place was packed to the brim. Clearly, I wasn't the only one eager for a quality meal. Streamlined Menu, Big Flavors The menu is refreshingly simple, spotlighting a few well-executed dishes. I opted for their most popular items: the Beef Noodle Soup and Spicy Wonton. Wonton: No Hype, Just Flavor The wonton is an immediate standout. Whatever you do, don't skip the broth. It adds layers of flavor, turning each bite into something special. Beef Noodle Soup: More Than Meets the Eye The soup doesn't hold back on portion sizes--loads of chewy noodles and tender beef make up each bowl. While the dish brings a bit of heat, it's not overwhelmingly spicy. Just enough to get you a little flushed by meal's end. Come Hungry or Bring a Friend You get a lot of food here. Consider splitting dishes if you're not super hungry. But if you're like me, you'll already be planning who to bring next time. In short, this place is worth the buzz. I'll be back soon, and I'm bringing friends. If you haven't tried it yet, you're missing out.

Yelp
We finally decided to come try here and they have outdoor seating so we were able to bring our doggo. I ordered the #1 Chongqing Style Spicy Noodle (dry noodle) for $13.99 but I wasn't a huge fan of it and there was no meat. They should update the menu to show what comes with it besides just the picture. I tried the #6 Kung Fu Original Beef Hand-cut Noodles (wide-noodles) and this was the 5 stars. The noodles had a good bite and were chewy. The broth wasn't too spicy for me and the beef was very tender. I would highly recommend getting the #6. Also, ordered the Sichuan Bean Jelly (Small $5.99)but I wasn't a huge fan since it didn't have much taste to it.
google avatar

Yelp
Inconspicuous little noodle spot thankfully replacing a horrible sushi restaurant. I ordered the hand cut fried saucy noodles with ground beef and thin sliced cucumber. It was good, not excellent. The beef was salty and it has a lot of oil swimming at the bottom of the bowl. The heat was perfect, I asked for mild, but it was flavorful. The short rib noodles in soup were tasty. The meat tender, the broth flavorful. The service was good, nice people. But something about it just didn't strike me as exceptional. I'll go back for sure and try another dish. It's in the neighborhood so why not.

Yelp
Chong Qing Noodles House has truly hit the spot when it comes to authentic Chinese dishes. The Kung Fu Original Beef Noodle Soup with rice noodles were the perfect dish on a cold, gloomy day. The broth is rich and the mild spice had the right amount of kick to it without overpowering the soup's taste. The noodles were chewy and the perfect texture to balance out the heaviness of the soup. The beef was also super tender; I just wish I got more pieces along with the bok choy. I also got to try the pork and chive dumplings which were absolutely delicious. It was tossed in some mild chili oil. Just be sure to let it cool before digging in as they come out piping hot. Service was wonderful here. Our teas were never empty and the owner swung by to ask how everything tasted. Overall, I'd totally recommend this local establishment to any noodle-lovers. There is a plethora of selection to choose from whether dry or noodle soups.

Yelp
Truly delicious Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup with hand cut noodles. The texture of the noodles were chewy and yummy. My comforting broth was deeply flavored and was mildly spicy as requested. I don't need a lot of meat, for me the portions of tender beef were just the right balance. Perfect. The service was very helpful and professional. The ambiance is hardworking hole-in-the-wall with an open kitchen and lovely Asian details like carved wood lattice partitions between the booths and festive paper lanterns on the exterior. There is also an outdoor patio with seating the back. We will definitely be back to explore more of their menu,

Yelp
Yum - quick fix noodle soup in Alameda! Not too much MSG - wasn't drinking gallons of water after but the flavor presence was enough Hahaha! That Beef soup kicks the beef flavor up there and it's a nice heavy rounded flavor. The chicken dumpling soup is so comforting... just great light flavors to satisfy. The BBQ was great - a different type of skewer BBQ - the cumin spice smell is present when you order so just a little tip on that! It's a cool spot - very casual and speedy and great customer service! So we have no marked this spot as a repeat joint in our books! We actually thinking about bringing some family with us next time they visit us!

Yelp
20 stars if we could!! We have always walked by and wanted to stop in, but never had the time. The owner saw us peeking at the menu on the window and that we had our dog with us, she opened the gate to the outdoor seating and welcomed us in! Everything was clean and peaceful. They even came out and gave some meat to our dog! We ordered the Wonton w/ Spicy Chili Oil & Kung Fu Original Beef Noodle Soup (top 2 popular items), shared between two people and left full & happy! Wonton w/ Spicy Chili Oil: AMAZING! Not overly spicy, amazing flavor, great texture and left you with a little runny nose lol Kung Fu Original Beef Noodle Soup: Hands down best noodle soup in the Bay Area. Drool worthy flavor, great textured noodles AND the beef was SO TENDER. You have to stop by and enjoy this small slice of heaven.

Yelp
Chongqing Noodle House is a very solid Sichuan Style Restaurant. Come to think of it, probably one of best I've been to; especially for being in Alameda on Park Street so close to plenty forms of afternoon/evening entertainment- Subpar Indoor Miniature Golf, D20 Games, High Scores Arcade, Bolwera Bowling Alley, Alameda Theater, and a plethora of Bars too. A huge plus for this restaurant is not making me drive out to Oakland or SF just for a bowl of delicious noodles. From the original and hand cut noodles, to the numbing peppers, to the meat, to the rich deep flavors of their broth. I always enjoy a nice steaming bowl of noodle soup from CNH, especially during these chilly nights. Also, if you don't do spicy, no worries. Just modify your bowl of noodle's spice level to what you like. Chongqing Noodle House has also recently expanded their menu with BBQ skewers (from 5PM to Midnight!!!), more non-soup entrees, and more appetizer dishes; or what my friends and I like to call "drinking food". I haven't tried their new non-soup entrees or their new appetizers yet, though my friends and I did try their BBQ skewers this evening and they were an absolute treat. If you're unfamiliar with Chinese Style BBQ Skewers, do understand they are on the more fragrant side of the flavor profile and they tend to have a kick to them since they typically have cumin and chili and Sichuan powders on them. You'll also find a handful of meats that your typical BBQ joint won't have (this isn't a BBQ joint anyway), though be adventurous or some would call it being cultured; and try everything on the menu at least once with the optimism that you're going to enjoy the flavors, textures, and experience altogether. Heck, even make it a contest with your friends in the form of a "dare" if you or one of your friends within the group are unfamiliar with the type of meat selections or even spice levels on the menu and make a Tiktok Short out of it. :) Overall, my first experience at Chongqing Noodle House was excellent and every time after has been the same. My photos don't do this place justice. It was night time, horrible photography lighting, and I was starving so I quickly snapped these photos. I didn't even get photos of our entire order. :P I think their first day of serving BBQ was this evening so their selection was limited (there were so many other selections that I can't wait to try), though we ordered two skewers of each item they had available, being the following: Beef Lamb Squid Chicken Wing Chicken Heart Lamb Liver Chicken Feet Bread Mmm, the BBQ bread sandwiching a peice a BBQ meat. Absolutely delicious. :)

Yelp
Suuuuuper good food!! The noodles and flavors were so rich. Came out quick too. Clearly a popular take out place with the locals as many came by for pick up Hefty portions, I'm excited to have it again for lunch tomorrow!

Yelp
Wonderful service and the food was beyond delicious! We got really fast service and the recommendations are great. The dumplings taste really good my favorite one was the wonton dumplings. The dry warm noodle was a great dish to add on! Plus the nuts inside added a great crunch. However MY FAVORITE was the cucumbers!!!! I'm coming back!!

Yelp
Heard of this place mentioned in one of AsianBossGirl's latest podcast episode. We came here at the end of a long hot day spent cherry-picking in Brentwood on the way back to SF. It was about 30 minutes before closing. My dog was with me so we sat in their outdoor seating. It felt like a cool summer night in a backyard. They offered us tea or water. Food was 4/5! Hand-cut noodles were nice and chewy. Definitely like #8's soup better. It was dense and flavorful. Veggies were perfect. Good sized portions. The owners/operators were so kind and welcoming here. Our server poured us more tea even after paying so we could sit and relax. She even packed up my leftovers for me and separated the contents from the soup so it would stay more fresh. A lady from the kitchen came out with a plate of finely chopped chicken to hand feed my 60 lb dog and she showered him with so much love. He definitely enjoyed that since he was hungry after being out in the heat during the day. They felt like family here, even as they closed and greeted us out. It made our experience 5/5. Would come back whenever in Alameda!

Yelp
Came here on Thursday and we were the only ones there. There is a small parking lot here, but we opted to park on the street since there was one available. Parking here is usually difficult, so if you're meeting someone, best to come a little early. We were greeted and seated immediately upon walking in. There's a small menu here, so not that much variety. After a few minutes, we ordered our food with the server - kung fu original beef hand-cut noodles, chongqing style spicy noodles, and marinated cold beef. Kung Fu Original Beef hand-cut noodles (3/5): was okay. I like the thick noodles in this soup, so if given a choice, i use the hand-cut noodles. The broth was okay as well. The beef was tender but not plentiful. Chongqing style spicy noodles (2.5/5): was a little pungent. I think they roasted the spices too long so it was a little bitter on top of being numbing and spicy. Added some vinegar and it made it better, but still a bit bitter. Marinated cold beef (2/5): decided to try something new and ended up not liking it. The beef were little strips of beef and it was a little numbing, but it didn't have really good flavor. The dish was small too, since it was half peppers. The place is okay at best, but seeing how it's so close to home, it's easy to grab a quick bite, rather than driving somewhere in the South Bay for somewhere that is good.

Yelp
The noodles and soup were tasty, however for almost $20/bowl is a bit pricey. Most of the menu prices have gone up, so most things were labeled 17.99. However we also ordered a #3 which on the menu was clearly labeled 15.99-my mom asked if it could be less spicy, the waitress said this was fine. Got the bill and #3 was 16.99 and we were charged $1 extra for less spicy (would have been nice to know ahead of time). Service was also poor as we tried asking for our bill and were waiting for a long time. Wanted to try this after seeing the good reviews, but I don't feel the service and food is worth the price.

Yelp
Went to Chong Qing for a quick dinner and was craving some authentic Chinese food from the Szechuan area and stumbled upon this restaurant. The food was really good, especially their use of spice and vinegar to balance out the flavors. The appetizers were delicious but on the smaller size as they have large and small and we got the large sizes on a few of the dishes and had to double check because they came out in smaller plates. The beef noodle soup was good as well with the hand cut wide noodles. Will definitely return if I am back in the area.

Yelp
If you've been here before, be aware of the changes! I came here again with my boyfriend and we were surprised to see that management changed recently. There's a new menu, the interior of the restaurant looks completely different, and there aren't the same servers/employees as before. Unfortunately, the food is no longer tasty. In the past, we'd typically order the hand-cut noodle soup with beef and the Zha-Jiang noodles, but the spices they used and the taste and texture of the noodles were so different. It seems like the current cuisine is more Taiwanese and not from Chongqing/Northern China, as the name would suggest. We also ordered the shrimp dumplings, which didn't taste like they had shrimp, and the fried spring rolls, which were cold and undercooked. Sadly, I don't think we'll be coming back.

Yelp
Fine, wouldn't go back. Asked for pork belly and was told it wasn't prepared. Staff was amazing though, and loved seeing the little lady cutting the noodles fresh. Huge servings, but too many noodles IMO! Something I've never said. I love how tiny the restaurant was and it felt very tucked away! It was calm and not loud at all. Tons of DoorDash orders going in and out as well.

Yelp
Phenomenal noodle place. We stopped in on a hot August evening and sat outside on the street to enjoy the weather. The place serves nice thick hand-cut noodles in a rich broth. Just the right amount of spicy for me, not spicy but still very flavorful for my girlfriend. While we were eating the server brought out a little plate of smashed cucumber salad from the chef, saying it went well with the noodles. They were right, the cucumbers were cooling and refreshing. Not sure if it's actually a family place, but it definitely had that vibe, and I'm already looking forward to heading back.

Yelp
This place is a gem for anyone seeking authentic Taiwanese-Chinese cuisine amidst the typical Bay Area mostly Cantonese and varying Mainland options. The food is exceptional, and to top it off, they have a stunning Chinese statue outside. What more could you ask for?

Yelp
I got lunch here, and ordered the Taiwan beef noodles. I really enjoyed my order and the noodles were flavorful!

Yelp
I visited Chong Qing Noodles House the same day I saw a post on Instagram, the noodles looked so good I could not resist! This place did not disappoint! The noodles are made in house and are very fresh. We received friendly and timely service. Definitely check this place out if you are in the area looking for some casual dining.

Yelp
Was craving some spicy noodles so my family decided to try out this new spot in Alameda. I got the original beef hand cut noodle soup and the portions are huge! The soup itself has a really good depth of flavor that complimented the noodles perfectly. I wasn't the biggest fan of the beef itself because there were some pieces that didn't taste great. The noodles were the perfect texture though and love that this place serves thick noodles. Also got the clear broth beef noodle soup and it's a good choice for someone who wants something on the lighter side. Would've preferred the beef slices in that bowl over the one in the original noodle soup. Also got an order of the chili oil wontons for the table and it was pretty good but would've preferred it to be a bit spicier. The flavor was there but definitely wanted it to have a bit more of a kick.

Yelp
So far my favorite noodles I've tried in the Bay. I've ordered #8 and never been blown away from first bite before. Make sure to get the hand made noodles!

Yelp
The service was great! As soon as we walked, there was no wait time so they seated us right away. It's a great place to come when it's a cold rainy day. It's a classic mom and pop stop. Braised Pork Ribs Hand-Cut Noodles - the broth was so rich and flavorful but there was only 4 pieces of meat. the noodles were so soft and chewy. Would prefer if it came with some more meat. The pork is also more flavorful than the beef, i'm not sure if the spices are different. Beef Hand-cut Noodles in Clear Soup - was similar to the pork rib noodles. the same flavorful brother but the only difference is that there was beef. Again, there was probably 4 pieces of meat so i wish there was more. Wonton with Spicy Chili Oil- i honestly LOVED these dumplings. It was so flavorful and had szechuan flavors. It was so filling and the spicy chili oil really added all the flavor to the dumplings. Would definitely come back on a rainy day but would prefer if it had more meat.

Yelp
Very good beef noodle soup place, the best beef noodle I had in Northern California. The service was nice and fast spoken in mandarin. Early morning so it was relaxing atmosphere clean location. My only complaint was for the other noodle dish there was little meat mainly noodle. Overall a nice place to go.

Yelp
Ordered hand pulled Taiwan beef noodle soup. The broth was overwhelming salty, cloudy, thick., It was hard to enjoy the dish. I do not recommend this dish.

Yelp
Update: the menu has changed since January and I've lost a lot of personal favs so I'm not sure how to feel about it yet. Still very tasty but they don't have rice noodles for the Pickled Veggies Shredded Pork Noodles (with an option to make it spicy) and they got rid of the Cheng Du Special Dumplings :(. Not sure if they changed ownership or what, but be aware if you've been before the menu is different!

Yelp
As good as it gets! It's been a while since I found a fav noodles place, and this spot did not disappoint (as many in the East Bay have...) For appetizer, we got the crispy pork (xiao su rou), smashed cucumbers, spicy stomach & tendon (fuqifeipian) and a spicy wonton. I love that you can do either the small portion or large. Ayyy gone are the days that I eat by myself and over-order because I need to try multiple appetizers. But ok the noodles were the real deal. I got the kung fu (hand pulled) intestine noodles with an added side of beef (yes), and this was the best I've had in a while. Intestines well marinated, full of flavor, and not offensive at all; beef extremely tender, and a very good portion. As much as I can agree that the appetizers are a bit pricey for their size, the noodles are definitely a bang for your buck - we all winded up getting to-go boxes since we could not finish. I heard the outdoor dining is great but did not get to check it out because it was cold - but love a cute outdoor noodle moment. Looking forward to coming back literally next week and every week after that!

Yelp
sad to leave a bad, updated review but something was definitely off/changed from my experience last night. did they change management? not sure. 1) they remodeled inside 2) i always get #3 and it looked different and was bland, had to add salt, meat didnt taste fresh 3) really slow service, a table left because it took too long 4) they didnt even have iced water, only hot tea 5) one side of the menu was not available (cold dishes and apps) 6) team/staff was different, didnt see the usual lady working whenever i come here yeah idk i dont think im gonna come back here
