Chong's Meat & Fish Market

Hole in the wall place, most of the time these places have great food, but the food here was disgusting. The fish was rubbery, had no flavor and cooked in chicken batter and not regular fish batter with cornmeal and flour, the fries were soggy, the only thing that was decent was the bread. Very disappointing and a waste of money.

Not much of a place to get food, don't get me wrong the food is nice, but it was a staff member that ruined the good experience for me. The cashier was the main issue, slightly rude and disrespectful when asked for a refund. Overall, it was okay for me, not the best, but not the worst. I wouldn't come back here. The food is good, but the staff could've at least been nicer.

I bought 4 dinners $80.00 and tipped. My lettuce had a core on it, my tomatoes, were blackened fish was fried in old grease. Sorry but I won't b coming back.I see the fish mkt. Has new management. No Pride in COOKING, LIKE OLD OWNERS!

Been going there for years and the food is still as good as I remembered it. I drive 20miles for it, so it must be good..Lol

The food is good. The service is good and I just discovered that they even have a sense of humor which was cool. Too often people are too serious but some light hearted humor from time to time goes a long way especially when you don't have to worry about the folks preparing your food doing anything to your food. Sometimes after 4pm I'm not dinner portion hungry and they will allow you to get a lunch portion up until closing time. Some places you go that's not an option. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I come way from Apple Valley for Catfish and Oysters and Chicken wings. I Love Chongs.

This used to be a place where you get your worth but with Inflation and the fish is reduced big time. I went 12/21/22 it will not be returning back. Now I love my fish to have a slight crunch but this is ridiculous. I will have to steam this fish to even taste the meat. So I have search for a better place.

The price was good. The food was good. The location was sketchy for me, but and the customer service was different because of cultural differences but I hope to soften him by offering to pay for the extras that I requested. Would I go back? Yes I would.!

Excellent Customer Service!!!! The fish is awesome but the portions are even better! Chong isn't stingy! He's a "for the people" type of fish market. Why I say so? He accepts EBT for purchases. He has even upgraded to contactless payment. He also takes orders over the phone for pick-up. The prices are very reasonable for the amount of food he serves. Parking is less than limited though. He has only one disabled parking spot and maybe three in the back depending on what time you come. Parking would be the only hang up. If push come to shove, park on 107th street and walk through the alley or on Vermont. He's conveniently steps from a corner liquor store and across the street from a laundromat. He's definitely in the right spot. He doesn't use too much salt on the fish and that's what adds to his fame. Very nice spot!!! Come give it a try.

Always plenty of fish too much fries and salad is just lettuce and tomato stacked but food is always good

Been going here since I was a kid and Derek was working here. I decided to stop by and man have the prices went up. I used to get the perch dinner which came with 4 pieces of perch. The lunch use to come with 2 pieces of perch. Now the dinner comes with 2 pieces for 20 dollars . Quality of fish is still good though

The best fish in the hood they give you a whole lot of food always on time. Food is always hot friendly good customer service skills when you order they tell you to come in 15 minutes and when you come is ready I love their customer service skills. I love how clean the place is.

There are three things that every South Central neighborhood has; churches, liquor stores and fish markets. So the completion is fierce. Chong's and Etna's fish markets are three blocks within one another. We'd been loyal Chong customers for many many years but then someone told us about Etna's and we started frequenting them instead. Both places have very good food but I liked Etna's prices better so we left Chongs. But lately I began paying closer attention to Etna's prices and realized that all of a sudden they have gotten sky high. I've been paying over $13 for just one pound of cat fish fillets. But at Chong's I can get an entire catfish lunch ( 6 pieces of fish, two sides, and a roll) for only $8.99. I've been back to Chong's every Friday for three weeks and now I'm asking myself why I ever left. I work 8 minutes from Chong's. I place my order when I'm leaving work on my lunch break when I get there it's hot and ready to go. I'll never desert Chong's Fish Market ever again.

You definitely get your money's worth, they're always packed but they move fast, and the food is great!!!!

Very disappointed Shrimp was fried in old grease, fries tasted a day old Never again. I spent $49 to be totally dissatisfied Shrimp dinner and two fish dinners Waste of money although the fish was just ok

Allow me to first state that you need to check your privilege at the door, and I respectfully say this when that people from suburban (aka those who are inclined to sport a more pale complexion)areas seem to have absolutely no clue as to what good food taste like.Space yes, I know that we are culture Used to convenience, and I realize that it happens take just a little bit longer realize it takes a little bit longer for a custom order to be made for you, and heck it's greasy but that's part of the charm LOL. Please stop knocking a wonderful family run local establishment.My family and I have been going here for years, and have never encountered an issue with the food quality or service ever. Perhaps fine folks like yourself are used to things just being a little bit more sterile in your neck of the woods. Well it's your lucky day welcome to consciousness raising 101, will you learn all about the economic disparities that exist in your right and you're very own backyard/ country lesson number one: in the Hood you "can't have it your way, but I guarantee you whoever is making it their way is making whatever it is mind blowingly good and the food is crazy tasty. Where I was raised , the The phrase "have it your way" was not in our vocabulary. You ate what you were given and loved every bite of it, And God help you if mama caught you not finishing your plate. Memories, sigh......those were the good all days...Kinda...No but seriously this place is off the chain, Do yourself a favor and get the fish and chicken special I recommend the red snapper and the chicken wings, I'm drooling thinking just about it

The dirtiest, filthiest and nastiest fish market in south LA. The dirt is caked up on the fan over the door. The food is good but it needs a paint job and a deep cleaning.

I like this Fish Mkt " it's always efficient and they give you such a generous portion .. I always have the filet sole dinner very good the fish is always seasoned really well.. I recommend this place !!!

This place is good. I know what you're thinking another five star review. What don't you give 5 stars. Well don't blame me for checking Yelp reviews of places, and listening to the word of mouth from friends. Yes, this place is in the hood. A hole in the wall you might call it. The fish here is tasty, and the portions are out of control. So much fish and french fries you can't close the Styrofoam container. I stop going to any other You buy, We fry spots because for what they charge they're not even coming close to messing with Chong's. I'll have to try the chicken next. Like many others I suggest calling in first ahead of time. That way you don't have to wait. You won't be disappointed.

Placed a order the other day. Ate the fish which was "ok". Everything seemed ok until the next day I had all the symptoms of seafood poisoning. It's lasted 3 days and it's definitely a set back. Be careful everyone. Wouldn't want you to go through what I'm going through

Excellent food and lots of it. Tips: They don't take credit or debit cards, only cash and EBT. CALL your order in and get your total over the phone; have your money ready so you're not pulling $$$$ out for other "customers" to see. Tip the guys in the back. They deserve it!

My absolute favorite fish place! You get monstrous amounts of food! So much the lid won't close! Fish, shrimp, oysters, hush puppies and giant chicken wings are A1! Love this place been coming here for a lil over 10 years now! Don't live close to it but definitely worth the drive there! Because i know i get what i pay for!!

The Fried chicken wings are the best I mean BOMB ASF,the fish is pretty good too..love this little hood spot...Matter of fact I'm gunna do an early lunch & late breakfast & stop by at 10am!

Where to start... It's fresh, hot and plenty of it. First time here and definitely wouldn't be the last time!!! The only thing I will recommend will be having an printed menu.

I love this fish spot. Their catfish is soo good. They give you alot of pieces of catfish with fries, salad and a roll. It's enough for like two people for like $13. Only thing is the parking sucks. It's this little spot shared with a liquor store, but it's worth it. Highly recommended.

I have been coming to Chong's for years and they have yet to disappoint me with an order. Their fish is always fresh and perfectly cooked and the hush puppies are DELICIOUS! It's best to call ahead and place your order so it's ready when you go to pick it up.

I went to get fish for New Year's and Holy Batman, is that a fingernail in my food...? UGH ! I'm good, food in the trash and money wasted. This was my spot too, I hadn't been in a really long time, but back to my Kanye Workout Plan.

Their catfish is good, but their chicken wings are even better! I think they have the best chicken wings in town. This is my favorite fish n chip store because their fishes are fresh and delicious. I suggest calling in ahead to save time because they can get pretty crowded. I love this place!!
