The Ideal Portland Spots to Load Up on Picnic Supplies - Eater Portland

"Once a deli counter within a market, Chop St. Johns offers a wide array of breakfast and lunch sandwiches, salads, and breakfast burritos to take to the nearby Cathedral Park. Italian sub aficionados will find a number of options on the menu, from the Sofia Loren with mortadella, Mama Lil’s, and coppa, to the Italian Stallion with ham, salami, and roasted red peppers. Order ahead by calling." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

16 Portland Breakfast Sandwiches to Try - Eater Portland

"Though it’s best known for its hearty, meaty deli-style sandwiches, Chop in St. Johns also offers breakfast sandwiches. The Train is like a breakfast from a Parisian cafe with ham, brie, and butter on a flaky baguette, but those looking for something more familiar as an American breakfast sandwich will be satisfied with the McChop, a take on the McGriddle: a lightly spiced sausage patty lands on a fluffy sourdough English muffin, joined by egg and cheese. There’s also the simply named Breakfast Sandwich with ham, Swiss, and fried egg on a potato bun. Whatever the order, it’s best to call ahead as Chop often has lines, especially around lunch time." - Alex Frane

Northwest’s Classic Chop Butchery Will Open a Deli in St. Johns - Eater Portland

"While the North Portland deli won’t have a butcher’s counter for by-the-pound meats, Chop St. Johns will serve its classic smoked meats, cured meats, and house sausages in various sandwiches." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Stopped midweek for a quick bite, loved the breakfast options. I had the McChop (sausage egg cheese) and hubs had the lox. Both were really solid. Friendly staff and cute part of the St John area.

Oh WOW! Definitely come here. The potato salad was amazing- we were lucky enough to get it warm. The crunchy bacon bits push it over the edge. We shared a roast beef sandwich- pickled shallots and fried jalapeños on a ciabatta roll. This was enough to share and crave worthy. I could eat here again tomorrow. Actually I sent a text to a friend to plan my next trip. There’s a nice big eating area in the parking lot for socially distancing enjoyment. They have a couple of umbrellas for shade. I’m excited to come back Here’s a picture of the clubby

We had a great lunch here. I will go back as often as I remember - they close at four which is right around when I usually start thinking of them. EDIT - I went back for take out, my order was wrong, my bread was burnt and no chips... Won't order takeout again, may try eating in again, massive bummer.

Breakfast at Chopped is an okay experience. The breakfast burrito was uninspired. The chickpea and avocado toast was better. The bread used for toast was excellent! For that reason, I'd go back for lunch and give the sandwiches a go.

Dang! So good! This place was recommended to me by a friend - I’ll definitely be back. I had the Izzy - go get you one.

I love this place. Good bye Starbucks, no one misses you. The coffee is great, the breakfast burrito is awesome and the staff are friendly. I eat a Sunrise burrito every week and it hits the spot. I love the quality of the eggs and the salsa is tasty. The breakfast sandwich is also a go to, the ham is no joke. For any poor review trolls in here, tell us where your sophisticated palates go to eat in St Johns. This way we can enjoy whatever secret you are keeping. This is the best thing to happen to St Johns for cafe lovers.

This place is phenomenal. Everything I have had there is just perfectly executed, and they are so nice too. With both a vegetarian and a gluten free person in the house, we are both easily accommodated and without feeling like we are missing out on anything in terms of flavor. Sandwiches and salads are both wonderful.

My first visit was last week (7/17/19) just before noon; so we beat the lunch crowd to ordering and getting a comfortable table inside. The atmosphere was very relaxing and the design very North Portland (a good thing). The St Johns neighborhood is the perfect setting for this fun / casual space and Chop will serve you the most super delicious sandwiches in town. My Reuben was perfect and my guest's Cheese steak sandwich was everything you expect from a Top Shelf Restaurant / Eatery. "PERFECT" Highly Recommended to All. ******Ten Stars*****
