Yelp
I stopped at Chop Stix on Central Ave, located across the street from a very tall apartment tower (Capitol Green). This place formerly named New Hong Kong has a very old school atmosphere and not a very fancy place (chilly in the winter), which is situated in a small flat roof building with order counter & open kitchen and a few tables for eating in.
This place serves up a standard Chinese American menu including fried seafood (just like the other Chinese place a block up) choices, Cantonese, Hunan and Szechuan dishes. The prices here seem reasonable, most item priced under $10 and coupon specials (free items) for orders $10, $20 or $30 or more (no specials included) are also offered. 49 Lunch Specials ($4.25/until 3PM) served with pork fried rice (add soup or soda for 50 cents) and 26 Special Combination Plates ($6.35-$7.25) served with pork fried rice and pork egg roll are offered.
For lunch takeout, I ordered the L38 Eggplant with Shrimp ($4.75 plus tax) with pork fried rice and wonton soup, which was ready to go in about 10 minutes after ordering. The good portion of food (served in round microwavable dish) did not look fancy, but tasted pretty darn good! The main dish had plenty of soft Chinese eggplant pieces, 5 big shrimp (cleaned), bamboo, snow peas, green peppers, button mushrooms, carrots, & onions in a slightly sweet & spicy sauce. The pork fried rice (yellow color) had a firm texture with onions and small pieces of pork. The wonton soup had 3 big wontons (filled with ground pork) in a slightly salty chicken broth with scallions.
