The Best Steakhouses in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"Chophouse has long been at the top of the steakhouse list for New Orleanians, and for good reason. The old school meat palace serves slabs of gorgeous beef aged 28 days to tender perfection, served Pittsburgh-style with a charred crust sealing all the juices within. The onion rings are a must-try." - Eater Staff

Went here for a dinner meeting, so our meal was pre-planned but all the food that I tried was fantastic and the service was great! Make sure you get a reservation though, the place was packed. Was very impressed with the crumb comb the waitress used between meals (I don’t eat “fancy” often hahah) I recommend the thick cut bacon, New York Strip, and cheesecake for dessert. They make a mean whiskey sour, and I normally don’t like wine, but “The Prisoner Red Blend” was surprisingly good.

Romantic setting. Loved it. We made reservations online and added our special occasion, anniversary. They had a card on our table wishing us a happy anniversary and gave us a dessert treat!

Cassandra Webster

Google
Food, music, and service were amazing! I had the Redfish Amandine which was melt in your mouth deliciousness and my husband had the sea bass which was also incredible. We had the cheesecake for dessert at the recommendation of our waiter and he didn’t steer us wrong!

Google
This place is incredible. The vibe in the restaurant upscale yet relaxed. The drinks and food are some of the best I've ever had. We came here for my husband's birthday and they even made him a card, which was the sweetest thing. Service was excellent. I didn't order a steak, but tasted my husband's, and it was one of the best steaks I've ever had. Perfection is the only word to describe it. Redfish Amandine was also to die for, especially if you enjoy browned butter. We will definitely be back.

This would be the third time that my wife and I have gone to Chophouse for a special occasion. Each time the service was outstanding. However, they couldn't get the temperature right on either one of our steaks. Either time we went. I have three strikes and you're out. My wife ordered her filet medium well because the waiter told her I'm going to come out with a warm pink center.... It came out charred on the outside and cold to the touch on the inside. My strip was half an inch thick and cooked all the way through and it was supposed to be medium rare. I was going to bring a Thermapen but my wife made me leave it at home. It would have come in handy this evening.

Google
Took my girlfriend here to propose. Called ahead and spoke to the manager Brandon. He aligned everything so well and let his staff know what was going on. The service was incredible. The food was amazing along with the cocktails. They really made our night special! Couldn’t have asked for more. Huge shoutout to Brandon, the other manager, and our waitress. They did an amazing job! Definitely recommend this place and we will be back!

All of the servers were helpful, polite, and respectful. Everyone was very knowledgeable about all the menu items, they were consistent on checking on us, and friendly. It was pricey, but the service and food were worth it. Finding service this good is a challenge in New Orleans.

Went for Valentine’s Day . I was 15 minutes late but the hostess managed to work me into a table in about 10 minutes . The restaurant is beautiful . There was live music , it was great . My waitress was super nice & sweet & attentive , her name was kaylan I think . The steak was very tender , juicy & super flavorful. All the food was hot fresh & tasted amazing . We will definitely be back

Yelp
Great dinner experience! All of our wait staff, especially our waiter Moe, was excellent . Food & ambiance were terrific. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Although we had an 815 reservation and was not sat until 900, the experience we had TOP TIER. My wife and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary with a dinner here and the food, service and vibe was amazing. The baked shirmp appetizer was a great starter. So great that I forgot to take a picture ‍. My wife ordered the Delmonico steak cajun style and the flavor was excellent. I ordered the 22oz Bone In Ribeye Pittsburgh style and was not disappointed. We also shared a ceasar salad that was not overly doused in dressing. The star of this whole dining experience was the cheesecake. Hands down the best cheesecake I've ever had in life. I highly recommend this place we definitely enjoyed ourselves and were happy we chose this restaurant to celebrate our 2 year milestone.

Yelp
We made sure to make reservations before heading over using Open table. We were seated at the bar area as requested, also close to the evening entertainment. A gentleman playing piano and singing some jazzy tunes. The waitress was friendly and informative about the menu. She gave us time to decide without being pressured. The food... The potato was good but as soon as you get past the thin layer of sour cream it gets pretty dry. The he Spinach with olive oil and garlic was fine. Nothing to write home about. The steaks, both were cooked exactly as asked. The unfortunate part was sooooo salty. Our mouths hurt after a few bites. If they cut back on the salt it would be much better. You can get better steaks at a better price all over. Go try someplace else first.

Yelp
Steak was burnt on the outside and raw on the inside. Potatoes were also burnt having an acrid taste. Could not eat the steak even after they cooked it a little more. Beef carpaccio and crab appetizer were great. Can't believe we paid over $300 for two appetizers and some drinks since the rest was inedible. Save your money! Go somewhere else. The management keeps emailing me with the promise to "make it right" but then never responds once I give them my information, the date we visited (June 15, 2024-my boyfriend's birthday dinner was ruined) and what all we ordered. I guess they figure since I live in Los Angeles and the trip to NOLA was a vacation, it isn't worth it to "make it right."

Yelp
One of the best dining experiences I have had in New Orleans. Unfortunately I was too busy enjoying my meal to take any quality photos of my food. However, everything from the ambiance, to the service, to the wine was impeccable. We got the crab as an appetizer and a wedge salad. I wanted to lick the plate for the salad, it was delicious and the crab was so fresh. We each got a steak and shared the onion rings and fries. Definitely listen to your server with suggestions for temp, because I didn't and had to get them to cook it a little longer. However, they had no problem doing so and both of our steaks were still so good. My boyfriend said it's the best steak he has had in New Orleans. We will be back!

Yelp
We've been here many times to include celebrating New Year's Eve and dinner after Mardi Gras. It's a classic steakhouse with a rustic vibe. It's busy during peak time so so you can enjoy a drink at the bar while you wait for your table. You'll see from my photos of the steaks that there are perfectly cooked with the right seasoning and at the right temperature. The ambience here is casual, but you could also dress to impress, both are perfectly fine. There is street parking is available. The chocolate cake OMG! Chophouse New Orleans is a classic chophouse with great steaks, great ambience and a wonderful staff.

Yelp
I frequent New Orleans for business, and this is my "go to" entertaining spot! As someone who has traveled the world and takes people out to dinner for a living, I can promise you this place has never disappointed. As a matter fact, whenever I invite my guests, I tell them it will be one of the best meals they've ever had in their life! And every time, my clients walk out and tell me it's one of the best meals they've ever had in their life! The atmosphere, the food, the location, the staff and the cocktails make this spot top-tier. During busy times in the city, you can email the restaurant for a reservation and they always promptly respond. Well done team Chophouse New Orleans!

Yelp
Christmas 2024 dinner was a great experience. We waited 30 minutes beyond our reservation time, but I have no complaints! The food, service, and atmosphere was one of the best for a holiday outing. The hostess was genuinely apologetic, and was conscious to ensure that we remained happy! The French 75s also helped! I ordered the bone-in ribeye steak, and my husband ordered the sea bass, and let me tell you- they were EVERYTHING! I also ordered the crab bisque...OH MY GOODNESS! They know what they're doing! I can not forget our waiter Drew! He is amazing and so attentive. Chophouse was exactly what I knew it would be - AMAZING! We will be back!

Will R.

Yelp
Pretty tasty and not over salted like most steak Places do. Svc was great and nice atmosphere.

Yelp
Steaks are very delicious along with the bake potatoes. Recommend for a nice dinner. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
We had a great steak dinner here. The steaks were PERFECT! The baked potatoes were HUGE. They made our formidably sized steaks look small. Ha! We also thought their Caesar salad was REALLY GOOD! We appreciated that they sat us at 530 since they had capacity so we could surrender our 645 reservation. Service was really attentive. They seemed to have a really crazy ratio of staff to guests--- but that definitely meant someone had eyes on our every need before we even asked. They had some live music. It was entertaining....but more in a sappy, gave us a chuckle sort of way. The music and performer was good... it was just the selection of pretty sappy tunes that kept making us giggle. But it added to the fun.
google avatar

Alexis H.

Yelp
The ambiance, service and cuisine were all absolutely incredible! Coupled with live music/piano accompaniment, this is a must-do if you are in the area or looking for a nice date night spot. The Delmonico was the star of the show.
google avatar

Yelp
We had an amazing experience here. We were celebrating a birthday and they went above and beyond to make it special. The waiter was super kind and knowledgeable about the whole menu. All of the staff were attentive and nice as well. The food was incredible - everything from the steak, lobster, and even chocolate cake. Although a bit noisy, the singer/pianist drowned out all of the ambiance with beautiful music. Will be returning 100%!
google avatar

Yelp
Very disappointing experience on Christmas Day. We had a 7:45pm reservation but were not seated until 9pm! Great quality steak but sadly way over salty. The batter on the onion rings was hard making them unpleasant to eat. Creamed spinach was also super salty and the mushrooms and onions were very greasy. The crab bisque was the one good dish we had.
google avatar

Yelp
This night was a blur as we were celebrating my hubbies birthday. He loves steak so a steakhouse was a must. This is an intimate restaurant with low lighting to set a romantic mood. Every point of service is spot on, hostess, waitstaff, and the wonderful sounds of the piano player. Our food was cooked to perfection and totally worth every penny! Thank you Chophouse for making the birthday boy feel so special!

John K.

Yelp
I had a reservation for 2 at 8:15....got the text at 9:41 it was ready and the cancellation notice at 9:43. The staff blew your reservation off like it was nothing while waiting for 90 minutes. So disappointing as I visit this restaurant monthly with frequent visits to the city. I have to scratch them off the list at this point.

Yelp
Chophouse is my top pick in Nola for steak and surf/turf dinners. The service, drinks, and food quality are consistently excellent. It feels welcoming like Cheers, with attentive waitstaff who remember every detail to ensure a fantastic dining experience. Joe stands out as our favorite server for his exceptional, natural service. Live entertainment during dinner and convenient valet service downtown add to the appeal. We enjoyed boiled lobster tail, fried lobster tail, and an 8oz filet, paired with creamed spinach and onion rings--all delicious. We'll definitely return!

Yelp
After a bad experience 9 months ago, Jenny from the ownership group reached out and said it was her mission to get me back there. There are so many great options in this city but her persistence and obvious concern convinced me to give it a shot. She squeezed me in last minute to host my son and his roommates. We had a great night from all the steaks, perfectly charred with moist center, very tasty lyonnaise potatoes and creamed spinach and gigantic chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream. Service was very attentive and Jenny even came out to introduce herself to me and my family and check on our experience. There are always some bad apples in every batch which she said was taken care of. This spot is back on my New Orleans rotation and recommendation list. For a great steak with cool vibe, chophouse hits the mark. You got me back Jenny, congrats!!!

Yelp
It's always a great time at our favorite steakhouse. Tonight was no different. We arrived exactly at the end of our grace period, and the valet was there to assist my wife and take our car so that we made it on time. Service was phenomenal. It was probably the best service we've had here. Kudos to [TBD] who provided excellent service. She was on her game the whole time, and she never went awol the way some servers do. Our glasses stayed full, the table clean, and we never wanted for anything. The way she described the praline sweet potatoes inspired me to try it, which is a nice segue into describing the meal. The sweet potatoes were divine. Just scrumptious! No dessert needed after that point. It was mashed sweet potatoes, but they were moist and buttery, almost custard like in texture. There was a middle layer of praline crumble with notes of cinnamon and sugar. All of it topped with roasted mini marshmallows that provided a crispy, pillowy texture and even more sweetness. It was the only dish to get a photo. 10/10 We started with the crab bisque. They must emulsify the ingredients, because it was smooth. It's in my top 3 of dishes to get. 10/10 Next was the bread service. The Leidenheimer loaf was warm and pillowy soft. The butter was cold and salty. My wife was abstaining from bread, so there was more for me. We then had the baked shrimp. This dish can be hit or miss. The shrimp were big and juicy and tasted like lobster. Unfortunately, there was no buttery sauce to bathe them in, so they were dry. 7/10 My wife and I split the bone-in ribeye. We got it medium well, and it was so moist and delicious. It was seasoned well and the crust was to die for. I wish I could replicate the level of seer needed to create that crust at home. 10/10. I selected a high top because it was the only type of table available when I made the reservation. It was nice, though. We were tucked into our little corner away from other guests. They replaced the piano man. They need to keep looking because the guy tonight couldn't sing. Classic R&B is definitely not his strength. Lol. He should stick to instrumental only.

Yelp
Fantastic! Service was top notch h. Cocktails delicious. Wine list extensive. Every tray we saw pass us looked amazing and just gave a reasons to return. We had the HuGE bacon appetizer that was meaty pork belly goodness. Our group of 4 had a filet, a ribeye, the redfish w crabmeat and baked shrimp. Everyone as silent while we ate. My shrimp were huge and wonderful. And that Key Lime Pie mmmmmm yummy Valet parking was a huge advantage too.

Yelp
Loved the food and vibe from the entertainment. Great food and highly recommend for a date night. Services were excellent and very friendly.
google avatar

Camcon S.

Yelp
I had the delmonico and it didnt disappointment. Flavorful and cooked perfect. We added a load baked potato. We also order the redfish. Both were amazing. The service was top notch. The atmosphere was great. We enjoy the whole experience and would eat here again.

Yelp
We called for a last-minute reservation, and they were able to squeeze us in at a nice table, our server DREW was outstanding, and went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of, and had a dessert & bday card for my birthday celebration. Ambience was a great vibe, dimmed lighting, light, jazz in the background busy tables, but very comfortable atmosphere. The food was amazing, you get your moneys worth, and the flavor and cook on Everything was superb. 10/10 recommend. Wish I took pictures to post on here but honestly, we just enjoyed everything in the moment and didn't think about it.

Shontina K.

Yelp
The food is soooooo good!!! I love this place and the service is always impeccable. My favorites are the steak, shrimp and the creamed spinach is cooked to perfection. The staff does such a great job balancing a busy restaurant during the Essence Festival. Ryan was AMAZING!!!! So attentive to everyone in his section. If you enjoy entertainment they have a piano player and he's a really good vocalist too. It makes the ambiance very calming. They never disappoint! See you next year!

Yelp
Christmas Eve in New Orleans. The restaurant was mobbed. Waited about a half hour for our reservation. But it was worth it. The food was fabulous. We had a seafood platter with stone crab claws, salad and split a steak. It might have been the best steak I've had. And I've eaten at many of the top steak houses in the country. But even better than the food was the service. Our server was Moe. He made a great meal fabulous.

Jim G.

Yelp
Good service but not prime beef and managements fake concern. Place was packed, staff attentive, and the management knew immediately which steak I ordered. Then proceeded to pass blame off as they don't trim what supplier sells em'.....
google avatar

Jenny L.

Yelp
I have been to a variety of steakhouse but this one provides the food, drinks, service and ambiance you desire. The waiter was very helpful with a selection. The steak was tender and decadent ! The two appetizers had my palette in seafood heaven. Two sides were selection - loaded bake potato and creamed spinach. I have been several times and I will be back..
google avatar

Erika D.

Yelp
The service was awesome. Everything that we ordered was delicious. I'd recommend making a reservation ahead of time. We did but noticed they got busy fast. Highly recommend!

Patrick Y.

Yelp
Take it from someone who has eaten here regularly for the last decade (and is a local), this restaurant has really gone down tremendously in terms of service, quality, and general friendliness. Sitting people almost an hour beyond their reservation time, with not even a single apology - get real. Service used to set Chophouse apart but unfortunately it's just not true anymore. Food was also just average. This city has too many other good restaurants. Spend your money elsewhere! PS, to the "General Manager" Martin - handing out Prosecco to appease your guests ain't cutting it. Nice try to mask your bigger issues.
google avatar

Kwanzaa G.

Yelp
Wanted to go to a really nice steak restaurant friends I came across this place , the place is beautiful. The vibe is nice definitely "morten"vibes and the service is amazing too. My downside of this restaurant is I ordered not even a petite filet mignon. It was a big piece and they brought it back to me Burt and so bloody inside. It gave me sickness last night my husband and I we couldn't even sleep. We've been up all night sick from steak that they did not cook. I don't recommend this restaurant they have to cook there steaks better Burt steak aren't good .
google avatar

Sammy R.

Yelp
One of the best steak houses I have been to. You could cut the filet with a spoon. Onion rings were really tasty. Next time I visit New Orleans I will be coming back here. Oh, Key Lime Pie was oh so good.

Mellie C.

Yelp
Mac-was amazing. AMAZING! Thank you. First time here. A New Orleans treasure. Thank you Mac as we will return.

Yelp
The seafood is my all time favorite item on the menu. What an awesome, fresh variety and selection of seafood. Lobster tails boiled and fried, grilled & cocktail shrimp, lump crabmeat and seafood bisque oh so yummy. This and a great bottle of wine serves as a great pair. Also live music in the evenings as well. Ambiance is great and intimate. Service is also great - servers are on point with the food presentation. * Baked ShrimpCrab BisqueFried Lobster TailLump Crab Seafood Platter

Yelp
Chophouse steak house is a nice place to go, they offer a live singer on the piano & a really nice patio for outside dining. I do like the option of the smaller Cajun steak, it's really flavored & just enough. They have really good sides. I like their asparagus, baked potato, & onion rings. They're really a nice size & the onion rings a really good. I had a pomegranate martini. It was good. Also, they have the French bread which is always amazing. The staff is always very friendly & it's dark & cozy in there.
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
Food was overall pretty tasty and the ambiance was high class with a live singer pianist. Service was great with our waitress being very attentive to our table and many people coming around to pick finished plates off our table and clean up. I ordered the Chilean sea bass and it was cooked perfectly but it wasn't really well seasoned and the fried garlic on top without much seasoning was not something I'd like to have again. Our table shared half onion rings and half fries. Onion rings and potato wedges were under seasoned.

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Chopehouse NOLA, and as a steak enthusiast, I was eager to sample their offerings. Let me start by saying that the steaks here were nothing short of extraordinary - USDA prime, cooked to perfection, and bursting with flavor. If you're a carnivore at heart, this place should be on your radar. The star of the show was undoubtedly the steak. Each bite was a symphony of succulence, and the expertly grilled meat practically melted in my mouth. The menu offers a variety of cuts, and I couldn't have been happier with my choice. Hats off to the chef for their culinary prowess in preparing these delectable dishes. To accompany my meal, I indulged in some of their signature cocktails, and they were delightful. The drinks were expertly crafted, well-balanced, and offered a refreshing complement to the rich flavors of the steaks. However, a few aspects of my dining experience gave me pause. The cozy and inviting ambiance was too dimly lit for my liking. I appreciate a romantic setting, but it was challenging to appreciate the visual appeal of my meal fully. They should find a middle ground between cozy and well-lit. Another minor issue was the live singer performing that evening. While I appreciate live entertainment, the volume was a bit too loud for my taste. It made conversation with my dining companion somewhat challenging, and we found ourselves having to raise our voices to be heard. Perhaps a slight adjustment in the sound levels would create a more enjoyable atmosphere. In summary, Chopehouse NOLA offers an exceptional steakhouse experience with USDA prime steaks that are second to none. The cocktails were delicious, and the overall atmosphere is cozy and romantic. However, they could consider some lighting and sound management improvements to enhance the overall dining experience. Nevertheless, if you're a steak aficionado, this place is a must-visit.

Yelp
Our first, but certainly not last visit on November 26th. Let's just confirm...no leftovers Every single food selection was top tier from the bread and butter to dessert. The Lyonaisse potatoes are a must!!! Service was top notch...thank you Christopher!!! The only and I mean only small drawback was the constant cold draft affecting one seat at our table located in the rear main seating of the restaurant. Easily solved by changing seats. We will definitely be back...tradition has started
google avatar

Linda G.

Yelp
I must say, the steak and fried lobster was amazing. Our server was very helpful in selecting the right entree. We enjoyed celebrating our 54th Anniversary with them. Thank you

Jessie G.

Yelp
Attended an Office Christmas Dinner - the service was horrible. We were sat an hour past our reservation time & the food took forever (4 hours for the meal to be done!) Everything was completely disorganized & the waiters were just bumping into everyone. They seemed overwhelmed even bringing water to the table. Not an enjoyable experience.

Yelp
Food: Delmonico Steak (medium well) with Cajun style is to die for. Perfect amount of fat, chared in the right places, annnd not chewy!! If you are not starving for steak, split this into two. Large loaded bake potatoes with cheese, bacon, chives, butter, and sour crean, with sprinkle of salt and pepper. The baked shrimps were large and very tasty Service: No complaints and great service. Observations of all servers, I saw teamwork and professionalism. I believe there are too many workers in the setting. The desert was very delicious. Key lime pie!!! Ambiance: It was very nice. It smelt great (charred smoke) and dimmer lighting. The AC was blowing too cold. We tried to fight it through the end. The big party that came in next to us had requested the ac to be lowered, and they did. I say to watch the air as we know the workers wear coats and can not feel how cold it gets through those big vents.

Lisa W.

Yelp
As soon as we arrived Martin greeted us. He remembered us from our last visit. He does a fantastic job making sure every customer is doing good and is being taken care of. Our server was named Lane and I must say he did an amazing job. The food was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. The family will definitely be returning for Mardi Gras or maybe even for the Super Bowl. Thank you again for a wonderful evening, amazing food and great service. We will be seeing you soon, from you New York friends.

Yelp
I apologize for no pictures, but if you go there you'll understand. Just too nice a place with a classic steakhouse ambiance to pull out a phone and take food pics. Ordered the chophouse salad for me, Caesar salad for my daughter. Chophouse salad was a classic chopped with generous blue cheese crumble, bacon, and house made vinaigrette. Really good, classic steakhouse salad. Riley's Caesar salad also looked delicious. Each went well with a great sized loaf of bread. We skipped appetizers beyond the salads and went straight to steaks. Both the NY Strip (10 oz) and Filet (8 oz) were perfectly prepared. They offer larger sizes and I'm glad we opted not to have them as this was plenty. Sides are best shared unless you size down. We had the hashbrowns which were wonderful. Lastly, we finished the meal with a huge piece of cheesecake with strawberries. According to the waiter the cheesecake is from Carnegies in NYC - seems about right. Perfect all the way around. Great meal

Jessica S.

Yelp
Amazing dinner! One of our favorite meals in New Orleans. Service was great, loved the piano player and the food was to die for. Highly recommend.

Shane S.

Yelp
Wonderful food, service, and ambiance! Had great dinner and experience. In town for the Bama game and it's a must.

Amanda T.

Yelp
The steak temperature was perfect however the flavor was lacking. I added salt and pepper to my filet which I was embarrassed to do as well as the delmonico. The appetizers (bacon and colossal crab) and sides (corn soufflé and cream spinach) were delicious. Service was amazing as well as the atmosphere. I just wish the steak had more flavor.
google avatar

Phillip W.

Yelp
Bit over our reservation, but food was absolutely outstanding. Our server was very nice and professional (wish I remembered her name). Everyone was friendly for the most part. We came to celebrate my gf's birthday and she really enjoyed both the food and ambience. We had the porterhouse special and it was cooked to perfection. Would definitely come back.
google avatar

Martin R.

Yelp
The bone-in 22oz ribeye was delicious and so was the 1lb baked potato. Come to think of it, a remarkable piece of steak rivaling the best of this year. The Caesars dressing ...not so much.... I couldn't finish it. Hard to say if this was homemade or a terrible store bought product. Also, as I learned, they are 'under' as in undercooking in this steakhouse, meaning if you want medium-rare you should order a medium and so on. I lack comprehension for such approach ...either it's incompetence or the chefs opinion the only way steak should be consumed is raw thereby imposing a dictatorship on clientele. I take issue with the latter approach because roasting develops different flavors in meat and everyone's preference should be respected. But maybe it's not that at all, which still leaves incompetence.
google avatar

E S.

Yelp
Wonderful! We sat out on the heated patio. Service was great. We could hear the pianist through a speaker so it still gave us the feel of live music. I had the sidecar cocktail and it was delicious. We ordered steaks, the loaded potato and onion rings. That was more than enough for two of us. We spent about $200 and found that to as expected.

Yelp
We absolutely loved Chophouse NOLA! The service was top notch, the food was excellent and to top it off was the Singing Piano Player!!! Chophouse reminds me of how upscale dining used to be. The tables are covered with linen table cloths table setting includes white & black napkins, water a bread. We ordered Shrimp as an appetizer, shared the Porterhouse for two with a side of creamed spinach. Everything was delicious!!!
