Montreal’s Best Steakhouses and Grill Restaurants for Surf and Turf | Eater Montreal

"An Asian-fusion steakhouse with a substantial menu of both meat and fish, this restaurant is proudly kosher and dry-ages its own stock for a minimum of 28 days before letting it touch the grill." - JP Karwacki

Visiting Montreal for an extended weekend and asked around about a high-end, elegant Kosher eatery to reserve a table for dinner. I was directed to Chops Resto Bar, and it certainly did not disappoint. The staff were super friendly, super knowledgeable of all the items on that I can arguably say is one of the most comprehensive menus I’ve ever seen. The food came out quickly and was delicious in every way.

If you’re looking for a kosher dining experience that encompasses a bit of everything, Chops on Queen Mary is worth a visit. This restaurant has carved out a niche in the Montreal dining scene with its extensive menu: full Chinese cuisine, a robust steak selection, and even an array of sushi. Not to mention, their homemade desserts add a sweet touch to the dining experience. One of Chops’ standout features is its impressive wine list, arguably the best kosher selection in Montreal. The inclusion of a couple of non-mevushal options is an unusual and exciting find that adds a layer of sophistication for wine enthusiasts. However, while the variety is commendable, I did find the overall pricing a bit steep, especially considering the quality of certain dishes. The burger, for example, was underwhelming—nothing memorable, which is disappointing given the expectations set by the menu’s range and the restaurant’s ambiance.

I used to enjoy this place, but it has really gone downhill. The food and service were both terrible. The waiter was extremely rude and disrespectful to me and my wife, which completely ruined the atmosphere of the evening. As for the food: • The sea bass came out raw. • The peanut butter dumplings had watery, flavorless sauce. • The sushi was clearly not fresh. • The crispy beef was unbearably sweet to the point of being inedible. For the prices they charge, this is unacceptable. Save your time and money — there are plenty of better kosher options in Montreal that actually care about their food and their customers.

Terrible experience. The service was rude and disrespectful, and the food was just as bad — raw fish, soggy dumplings, and sushi that tasted old. Definitely not worth the price, much better kosher spots in Montreal.

Very nice restaurant to have mettings in, or for a date. Friendly fast service, good drinks, good menu variety (no specials though?) Good pricing, big portions, and very visually enjoyable. Kosher classic. Menu is big but after a while gets boring.. still good for family night or anything else.

New Yorker in for the New Year here. Chops was an outstanding experience from beginning to end. My brother and I were going in late after a show so we called prior to place our order to go and Andrea at the front desk happily invited us to sit and enjoy. By the time we got there our apps were already placed on our table ( tuna tartar and salmon tacos) both 10/10. Our waiter Amil was very professional and accommodating. We also ordered 3 of the special roles- probably some of the best sushi I’ve ever had including famous non kosher restaurants in NYC. The lamb chops were fresh, cooked to perfection and well seasoned. We stayed for dessert and tea- all around perfection.

Good food, nice waiter and decent amount of variety. Molten chocolate cake could've been a bit better though

Really great spot! The sushi and steak are always fresh and delicious. Definitely recommend if you're looking for quality food!
