I truly love taking a nice long 2-hour drive out to the lighthouse specifically for a photography outing. I must say that my favorite time of year to visit is in December when they add a little Christmas cheer. It can be pretty crowded during the weekends (especially spring through summer) but every time I visit, regardless of the time of year, it’s for photographing the lighthouse at sunrise when I usually have the entire marina almost entirely to myself. Just about the only people you’ll see early in the morning are folks fishing off the docks or those headed out on their boats. It’s a beautiful, well maintained (working) lighthouse you can wander around and inside - they really take pride keeping it that way. If you go to photograph, sunset is of course beautiful as well but you definitely have to be patient to capture an image of it without people in the frame if that’s your intent. After a nice morning of shooting, I love to go into charming downtown for a little coffee and breakfast at a cafe.
