Enjoyed our evening participating in SF Restaurant week at ChouChou. We both ordered from the prix fixe menu with house wine. We ordered the french onion soupe, escargots gratines a L' Ail, duck leg confit wellington, boeuf bourguignon, and for dessert, brioche & french pudding and opera cake. We especially enjoyed the french onion soupe, after our fav restaurant in Monterey changed ownership. Escargot was tender and garlicky yum! The Duck leg confit wellington was a very nice surprise. The philo dough was crispy and the duck leg was juicy. The accompanying Bechamel sauce tied the dish together very well, wish there was more sauce! The boeuf bourguignon was very tender, marinating in the rich burgundy sauce.

It’s hard to know where to start. This restaurant is special. The people are special. The food is special. It’s just GOOD and that fills my heart. Ben helped us choose some truly outstanding wines. The wine list is very French and very well curated. When we put ourselves in his hands, we ended up with great wine. The prix fixe menu allowed us to try a little bit of everything. The escargot were delicious. The onion soup was decadent. The beet salad was fresh. And then, on to the mains… the duck confit Wellington was beautiful. The fillets were beautiful. And, the cassoulet was a treat I rarely see outside of southwest France. The desserts were lovely and they went above and beyond to let us try everything. The ambiance felt elegant, approachable, and cozy… which I suppose mirrored the menu and the staff. Chou Chou is such a French grm in the US. Thank you Ben & team for making our dinner so special. 💙

Excellent food, great service and good atmosphere. Everything we ordered was yummy and cooked to perfection. Started the evening with wine (Pinot), lemonade, Shirley temple, and Coke zero. We had the French Onion Soupe and Escargots Gratines a l’Ail for appetizers, and the Duck Leg Confit Wellington, Lobster Ravioli, Salmon En Croute, Cassoulet, and Rack of Lamb for dinner, followed by a final dessert course of Crepe Nutella and Creme Brulee, and closing everything out with a couple of cappuccinos to finish off the evening. Our servers were the best and they treated us wonderfully with a great sense of humor. The place was well decorated and the ambience was cool and stylish.

It’s been a whole week before I finally had time to write this review! We booked this restaurant on a weekday to celebrate a special occasion. Since we reserved early, we were seated right away. Even by the end of dinner, it wasn’t too crowded. They offer a $75 dinner set that includes an appetizer, main, and dessert. As with most Western meals, bread was served—nothing too special, but freshly warm and tasty. For starters, we had the French escargot and tuna tartare. Both were good, especially the tartare, which was a standout. For mains, we tried the daily special—trout—and the beef bourguignon. The trout was pan-fried but still retained a nice, delicate fish flavor, which made it quite memorable. For dessert, we had the crème brûlée and molten chocolate cake. The crème brûlée was smooth and delicious—definitely recommended. The chocolate cake was on the sweet side; probably best enjoyed with a strong black coffee. Overall, we were happy with the food quality and the attentive service. A joyful meal and a great evening!

Nice French restaurant. Very cozy. The service was excellent. The food was great. I had the Chouchou mussels as an appetizer. It had a creamy sauce, which was delicious. My main was the salmon, which was prepared perfectly. Creme brulee for my desert. It was nice.

Google
Overall very nice experience at this casual French bistro. Service is friendly and efficient. Dining room is decorated uniquely in gray, silver, and white. Lamb chops were very good and cooked as requested medium-rare. Mussels were not great, frozen?, though there are easy to get fresh ones in the area. Escargot were OK. Cioppino is done better elsewhere. Charcuterie board had good variety and quality.

This review is just for a Saturday breakfast. We booked for first thing on a Saturday morning, and were the only two people in the restaurant the entire time. The venue is lovely: nice, smart decor. It looks like it'll be accessible. The people were friendly, although being asked "do you want iced tea?" right after ordering espresso and cappuccino was a little odd. We had the brunch quiche and a "forest crepe". Both came with generous portions of green salad, with a few additional elements: carrot slivers, halved tomatoes and grapes. The quiche was great, although the portion was fairly small; the crepe was mixed: we both felt that the inside surface was a little undercooked, although the filling was tasty. The coffees were a bit meh. Note: although we probably won't go back for breakfast, we might try them again for dinner if we're in the neighborhood.

We had the Christmas Eve prefix meal here. It was my 1st time eating here. The food is above average for French food. It is not completely traditional French food, but tasty nevertheless. The service was great. I would definitely come back.

Yelp
We went to Chou Chou a few days ago to celebrate a birthday and had a wonderful experience. The service was excellent! our servers were so kind and attentive throughout the evening. The food was great, and the prix fixe menu was a great value. Highlights at our table included the escargot (so delicious that some of us were dipping bread into the sauce afterward), the clam chowder, the mussels, the filet, and the salmon.

Yelp
This is a charming little French place. They also have a restaurant in San Francisco and I appreciated that the Burlingame location was part of SF Restaurant week in early November. Being a French place, I was curious to try their French Onion Soup and the Cassoulet. Both were solid- very good and as expected. You won't go wrong if you order these dishes. My friend had the steak and it was perfectly cooked generous portion with mashed potatoes and broccolini. For dessert, we got the opera cake and the bread pudding. The opera cake was average but the bread pudding was quite nice. They have an extensive wine list (of course of French wines) and champagnes. Our prix fixe dinner for restauarnt week was a great deal - for $70, you got a glass of wine, a starter, main and dessert and all off the regular menu. As far as the inside and ambiance, I thought it was charming. It is brightly lit which I liked. The waiters are French and very sweet. If you want classic French food, you cannot go wrong with this place!

Yelp
Made reservations for a Saturday night. They were packed, which is good I suppose. This is the space that Stella Alpina had before they moved. We like how it is brighter. I will note and you should be aware that they put the tables in there pretty close so you are essentially right next to your neighbors. If someone got up, they would have to squeeze through a small opening and let's just say a few other diners butt hit our table on both sides. Now the great part... the food is delicious and well prepared. We had the prix fixe menu and added a French onion soup. We enjoyed everything: - calamari - escargot - beef bourguignon - salmon in a puff pastry - desserts Great service and friendly staff. Slight lull between starters and entree but kitchen was most likely slammed. I would definitely be back. Though if you are claustrophobic consider a non weekend night.

Yelp
My parents like this place! It's near where they live in my hometown but we've also gone to their SF location. Service is always good. Lots of families at this location (it is, after all, Burlingame.) Yummy salad--tastes fresh and I like their added added ingredients, makes it feel special. The escargot wasn't overly buttery, seemed less traditional but still good. Rack of lamb is large and flavorful. Sweet creme brulee, warm fluffy molten lava cake. Can't go wrong with anything! We keep coming back.

Yelp
I've never been to a French restaurant so I had no idea what to expect but it definitely exceeded my expectations. The set menu is a great price if you're hungry and everyone in your party wants a starter, entree and dessert. Only a couple people in our party did it but it was nice we didn't all have to. For starters, we ordered the French onion soup, escargot, mussels, and crab salad. They also gave us bread and butter which we did ask for more of to dip into the mussels sauce. They were all good but didn't 'wow' me. I wish the crab salad came with more salad lol. The entrees were all perfectly cooked! The duck leg confit was a little difficult to navigate through the bones. It was so tender it fell off the bone but was messy with the pastry puff. The filet was perfectly cooked and the sauce paired well. Other people in our party got the rack of lamb and beef bourguignon and they were both great. I would love to come back and try more of their menu and their extensive wine list.

Yelp
This is a beautiful restaurant, so elegantly appointed, and the wait staff could not be more impressive, attentive, and friendly, The food is exquisite and every bite is a perfect representation of what was ordered. From the baked Brie to the tuna tartare to the short ribs and salmon and all the accompaniments in the plate. Just so delicious!

Yelp
Run! Don't walk. This bistro is amazing. So adorable. So cozy. Everything we ordered was SO yummy! Everyone was so nice & polite. We got to enjoy our meal on a busy Saturday night without feeling rushed. Prix fixe was a great value at $70 pp. Planning our next visit already!!

Yelp
A great meal and nice service from the only server on a slow Tuesday night. A relaxing evening. We started with complimentary warm bread and butter. Then we had excellent deep fried calamari and vegetables. For mains, DH had a really wonderful burger. I had the filet. Both were ordered medium rare and we'd order again! We ended with the warm chocolate lava cake topped with vanilla ice cream. We will be back!

Yelp
I didn't make a reservation in advance for Valentine's Day dinner, but luckily, Chou Chou had a table for our group of 5 at 6:15 pm. The prix fixe menu was amazing. I felt like I was in Paris, enjoying great food and good company. A big thank you to Chou Chou for making our evening special! I was especially impressed with the Duck Confit Wellington--everyone who loves French cuisine should try it. Our server was super sweet and attentive, keeping everything on point. My only suggestion would be to soften the lighting, as the bright white light didn't quite match the cozy, romantic ambiance.

Yelp
My partner and I had been wanting to try this place for a while, as it always looks so cute and cozy from the outside. So when we finally had a free evening to try it out, we were very excited. Unfortunately, it ended up being a pretty disappointing experience. We walked in on a Friday at around 8, and the restaurant was very full. It's hard to tell from the street, but it's actually much larger inside than it appears - however, we later heard they overbooked their max capacity for the evening, and I think that was the cause of our issues for the night. We waited about 15 minutes before anyone even came up to us. Then it was another 15 until we were seated... Another 10 until a waitress came up to us... Ultimately, our appetizers didn't arrive until over an hour after we were seated, and our mains came about an hour after that. I will say, when the appetizers did arrive, they were pretty tasty. We ordered the baked brie and French onion soup - the French onion soup was pretty good, but the baked brie was definitely the standout of our Chouchou experience. It had a light, flaky exterior, with warm, flavorful brie melted perfectly throughout the middle. For mains, we got the filet mignon and the burger. My filet was good and cooked perfectly medium rare, but it was a bit bland in flavor and required some extra salt and pepper to help it along. The burger, though, was disappointing - it was dry and quite overcooked, and lacked any real flavor. We got the molten lava cake for dessert, which was tasty and probably our second favorite item next to the baked brie. While our waitress was kind and clearly doing her best, our experience was pretty significantly hampered by the excruciatingly long waits. Many other tables around us expressed similar disappointment, and several of them ended up asking for their food to be cancelled or made to-go due to the long wait. The fact that both our entrees were also average to subpar didn't help. I'm hoping we just caught Chouchou on a particularly busy night... But regardless, I think it'd be great if they're able to sort out their staffing and booking situation to avoid similar experiences. Would love to be able to come back and have a better experience in the future!

Yelp
Celebrated a birthday in the family here. We were seated promptly, and although I had mentioned we were celebrating a birthday on the reservation and when we were being seated, there was no acknowledgement of any sort. Felt weird. The tables are located close together which can make the noise level seem high being in a closed indoor setting. One of our party who needs hearing aids found this particularly uncomfortable. This may not be an issue for most folks, but sharing in case this affects someone else with similar needs. We got some appetizers to share - the fried calamari, tuna tartare and the French onion soup. Of these, the French onion soup had a generous helping of cheese and looked the part, although it tasted rather bland. For the main course we got 1. the filet mignon - the person who got this was very happy with their dish. 2. The rack of lamb, despite requesting this to be medium, this was a mix of chops done medium and some pieces overdone to the point that they were inedible and couldn't be chewed on. Meh! 3. We also got the Beef Bourgnion, which was okay, 4. The chicken which was rated as okay 5. The fish en papillote, which was a special as explained by the server, but they failed to mention its price. We ended up asking for the price and eventually ordering it. The service was spotty, with waters not getting refilled until we asked and no one to check if we wanted more alcohol. Oh well! After waiting for a while for someone to get us the dessert menu, we ordered the opera cake and the bread pudding, both of which were delicious. They finally acknowledged the birthday and gave the birthday person a complimentary creme brulee, which also tasted great. Overall, a good place, but not one that I will want to return to in a hurry given the mediocre food and service here and the multitude of choices available in Burlingame.

Yelp
I've been on a French kick lately, and have been looking for new restaurants to try. Enter ChouChou French Bistro. Not sure when it took over the Stella (the previous restaurant), but I've definitely seen it in passing for some time now. Service is really good. The waitstaff keep a close eye on you and make sure water glasses are always filled and they'll anticipate what your needs are before you need to request it. They even took trash from someone who wasn't even dining in! An individual dropping off a customer handed the server what I'm presuming to be an empty coffee cup to throw away, but I was taught to not leave outside trash at the restaurant - especially when there's plenty of public trash cans around downtown Burlingame!! I find it rather rude, but staff handled it graciously by taking the cup off his hands. For dinner, there's two menus: a 3-course tasting menu for $65 or an a la carte option. We opted to order a la carte and decided upon the following: 1. Grilled artichoke ($16) - tasted pretty light and healthy. Came with a tangy aioli that ended up being a great dipping sauce for the fries! 2. Chouchou mussels ($16) - comes with a couple pieces of garlic bread. The white wine sauce itself was VERY creamy. I prefer the sauce to be a little lighter, but it was good for dipping the bread in. We also got complimentary bread as a starter, so you can always request more bread if needed. 3. Boeuf bourguignon ($40) - classic French dish made very well according to my fiancé. Beef was very tender and flavor was good. Also came with a scoop of mashed potatoes. 4. Mushroom souffle ($33) - I decided to get this one since it's something interesting and I've never had a savory souffle before. While the first few bites were good, I found myself getting bored of it pretty quickly and wanting hot sauce to spice it up (very Asian of me). My fiancé used the sauce from his dish to give it an extra boost, and he said it was much better. 5. Fries with parmesan ($12) - standard side dish of fries that came with a couple dipping sauces. They can make it extra crispy too! There's outdoor dining with heaters and the interior dining space is cozy. It wasn't a super busy night when we came in, but it can get a bit loud inside. Once it emptied out, it does feel like a nice place to have a chill, relaxing dinner!

Yelp
Amazing Cassoulet, Mussels and Molten Chocolate cake. I really enjoyed their prix fixe menu. The service was impeccable. I had a wonderful anniversary here.

Yelp
Make a reservation, we arrived at 630pm on a Tuesday evening and had to wait 15-20 minutes for a table. The room was relatively empty but the tables were all reserved. Our bad... go to their website to reserve a table it's not visible on Yelp. Staff is very friendly and apologized many times for the wait to be seated. We didn't wait long. We were seated in their patio alcove with an overhead heater so we were comfortable in the quasi-outdoor space, street noise was unnoticeable. We ordered from the fixed price menu and the Ala carte menu. We tried the Salad Composee with fresh fruits; raspberry, blackberry and with candied pecans a very fresh and refreshing salad. We also shared the Chorizo Mussels, very tasty slightly spicy coconut and harissa sauce. Extra yummy with the warm & crunchy French bread. For mains, we tried the Duck Confit Wellington, the Rack of Lamb and the Filet De Boeuf Charolais. Each was delicious and beautifully plated. The meat was requested medium rare and were perfectly cooked. The Filet was so tender that it made cutting a little hard it was so juicy and tender. It was almost melt in your mouth tender. The peppercorn sauce was a perfect addition to the beautiful Filet. Same with the Rack of lamb... the Wellington had a beautiful brown flaky crust. The duck was moist and flavorful. We were lucky that we were sharing tastes while celebrating our son's birthday. It just makes it harder for us on our next visit, having to decide which delicious offering to pick. Delicious food, friendly attentive service what more do you need... highly recommend you try Chou Chou French Bistro for your enjoyment.

Yelp
I've been to ChouChou in San Francisco/ West Portal area and loved it. The very French vibe was exactly what I wanted this past Saturday being half Francophile, born on Bastille Day . I would say it started off a little rocky with some disorganization and seating/wait time. But once we, in addition to those that were there before us and the party that came at the same time we did, were seated everything went absolutely smoothly and was delicious! Service was exceptional. Ferrah was our main host and Andre (I hope I have their names correct) checked on us often but not intrusively. My filet mignon was cooked to perfection - my daughter enjoyed her requested medium done rack of iamb. We loved the design of the interior and the colors chosen, along with the mirrored accents on the wall. We will be back again! We hope you'll give this "darling" a try.

Yelp
I went to the San Francisco location a few years ago and it was excellent. I went here for a brunch on the weekend. The menu online was a la carte, but at the restaurant it was pre fix. I tried the forest crepes, French onion soup and opera cake. The quiche was pretty good and the lemon tart dessert was excellent. It all went well with a good glass of champagne. Decor is nice and they have a patio for outside dining. The service was good but slow. Overall a good experience and I would go back for the standard menu.

Yelp
The night started out really well and the service was amazing, until the end. Started out with people constantly checking in on us and seeing how our food was, refilling our waters, the usual great service you would expect from a high caliber spot such as this. The dessert took some time to come out and then our server simply disappeared. There was a couple next to us that got there way after us, got their dessert before us and their check. After a while, when another server came to reset the tables, we asked her if we could get our check. She said she would find our server. A few more minutes passed by and the same server ended up bringing us our check. So a really great service ended up finishing poorly. On top of that, we were there for my birthday, the wife called ahead and made sure they knew on the reservation, as well as when we got there but no birthday writing or anything...not a big deal but attention to detail is good. Would we go back? Probably not, and not because just the service but the food, was just ok, good, but not great. Nothing to write home about. The French onion soup, as much as we love it, was pretty bland. Presentation was good and true to the soup but definitely missing a LOT of flavor. For the most part everything we ordered was just mediocre.

Yelp
This restuarant was open on Christmas day last year and I ate here. Everything was good but I don't think any particular dish was incredibly memorable. The steak was very standard and decently cooked. The chocolate lava cake was yummy too. I will give 4 points because they were operating on Holiday day and still an overall enjoyable meal.

Yelp
Went here for a work dinner and was not disappointed. Most of us got the 3-course option for $65 which I thought was definitely worth it. I ordered the mussels as a starter, salmon, and creme brûlée which were all delicious. The salmon especially was cooked perfectly, which is not always the case at other establishments. Our waitress was also very attentive and friendly. I recommend trying this relatively new addition to downtown Burlingame!

Yelp
I really enjoyed my experience here. The SF Restaurant week menu made it even more special. The service was very attentive initially before the crowd came, but overall, there was nothing to complain too much about. I brought a bottle with me because $35 corkage fee seemed reasonable to me, but they broke the cork even though I warned them the bottle was 12 years old and the cork might be fragile. They ended up filtering the cork residue out prior to pouring. On to their starters, I thought their charcuterie board was an excellent appetizer to share and the pate with nuts was my favorite. I typically don't eat salami but I found theirs to be mildly seasoned, not heavy on salt like the others, and paired nicely with my wine. I was pleasantly surprised by how much crab meat they packed in their crab salad. I wished they would use less mayonnaise because it was dominating the natural sea salt flavor from the crab. For the main, my party enjoyed their filet mignon, very tender, but they were overcooked. Two of parties ordered filet and my husband ordered a medium rare but came out medium well (2 levels gap). He didn't want to ruin the mood with my guests and just sucked it up and finished half of his steak. Hopefully these feedback will help them improve on a few minor details to make it a 5 star restaurant. I would consider coming back again if they offer another prix fix menu coupled with paying attention to a few things that I mentioned earlier.

Yelp
This restaurant is a perfect choice for dinner date. It has a cozy and intimate ambiance, soft lighting, and serves delicious food and drinks. They have a fix price menu which is reasonably priced. The food are delicious but need some improvements. I chose ChouChou Mussels as starter. It taste delicious but I think the broth is too creamy. The Tuna Tartare is a little bit bland and the wonton skins are way too thin to scoop the tuna with The Rack of Lamb is delicious, even though it has so many fat in it The server is very friendly and quite attentive. Overall, this restaurant gives a romantic vibe with great decor, lighting, good service & good food. I'm very impressed that my date chose this restaurant for dinner.

Yelp
This 5-star is for Ben (Iskander) who made our Anniversary dinner special by keeping our 3-yr old entertained and pampered. Service was top notch! The pre-fix dinner was great too. Shout out to the mussels and escargots. Thank you for giving us the best seat in the house despite being the only guests with a toddler!

Yelp
Pet friendly, French bistro in downtown Burlingame! We just returned from Paris and was wishful for French cuisine so we were excited to find this bistro nearby. Initial reaction on service was apprehensive... I accidentally went to their patio entrance instead of main entrance so found myself waiting there awkwardly for awhile before being greeted/seated then we waited quite awhile before getting menus so we were worried about time and considered leaving since it had been so long. But we decided to wait it out and the waitress upon arrival was very pleasant and thoughtful in bringing the order quickly when we mentioned we were very hungry. Food arrived very fast and we really appreciated it! We visited for brunch and was offered both brunch and dinner menus so we ordered from both menus. We got the eggs benedict, French onion soup, toasted banana bread and mushroom soufflé. Food was quite good. Portions here are large and generous. We were stuffed! Restaurant is decorated very elegantly! There is also a covered dog friendly patio that blocked the wind/rain. It was quite pleasant! Recommend for French cuisine in the neighborhood. Plenty of street parking nearby.

Yelp
Delicious food (Baked Brie, Boeuf Bourguignon/Filet De Boeuf Charolais, Opera Cake) and fantastic service. Our server was really helpful, nice to talk to (we had a later reservation, so she had a bit more time), and even offered my fiance a blanket in case she was cold! As an extra bonus, she even gave us a special extra dessert when she found out we were celebrating the anniversary of our first date.

Yelp
TLDR: A nice French restaurant that falls flat when it comes to the food, especially for plant-based options. Atmosphere: Clean, modern, stereotypically "French" when one handles interior design. No real complaints, but it was not unique. Service: The service was kind and attentive. The server was not particularly helpful with the plant-based options as the menu online is different than what is served live. He was surprised and did the minimum to make sure I could eat at least one thing. However, made no suggestions for even a modified salad as a starter. Food: This is where the experience goes down hill. The online menu shows a vegan ravioli which I was looking forward to. Unfortunately, they changed their menu and there was no marked vegan option on the menu. I was there with coworkers who are omni's and I did not want to make a scene. I was served a vegan risotto with coconut milk. I will say, it was not the worst risotto I have ever had, but it was definitely overcooked and had zero flavor. I do feel like the cooks did not know what to do, so they just dumped coconut milk in and did not use wine or any other seasoning to try and enhance the flavor. Also, there was almost nothing in it besides risotto and a little bit of spinach. No other veggies so it was pretty sad. Naturally, there were no vegan desserts, but I never knock non-vegan restaurants for that. On the omni side, one of my colleagues is a French Onion Soup FANATIC. He only finished about half his soup and said, "eh" while shrugging his shoulders. My other colleague felt her food was quite bland too.

Yelp
This is a return visit since the opening. ChouChou has come a long way and it's a gem in Burlingame. The staff was incredibly attentive and busy pleasing customers. We had a fantastic meal that started with the French onion soup and salad. The boeuf bourguignon and the cassoulet were well prepared and served. We couldn't resist the cream broulet was perfect. We will be back.

Yelp
Made a reservation here for my friend's birthday. They came in early. When I arrived, they had a hard time finding my table and kept asking me if I should go to the SF location. I showed them my reservation confirmation and let them know my friends are already here... feel very strange that the restaurant cant find my table. We ordered escargot, fries and bone marrows for appetizers. It is French... so it is very greasy... flavor was okay but nothing special. When I ordered my main course, I asked for salmon with extra side of asparagus. The waitress kept asking me if I am sure, since the salmon comes with asparagus. I had to have her read my menu together to clear it up. Right after we ordered, they tried to serve us food. We were confused again.. kept asking them like we really just ordered. Turned out that they were supposed to serve the table next to us. My salmon was okay. Nothing special. It is not overcooked but could use tiny bit of less cooking. The risotto was undercooked (raw in the middle) and too heavy. Asparagus was nice. I ordered a chocolate dessert. It was alright. Restaurant is pretty new. One restroom ran out of toilet paper. It was late so I could understand. Overall, I find the restaurant to be just okay. Staff needs major training though. It is not okay for them not to find my table (already partially seated). They don't seem to know their menu well either (not many items on the menu to begin with). I likely won't come back. Service needs some work and food is way too heavy.

Yelp
Used to come here for the old restaurant Stella. It's under new management. Apparently they have another location in SF. The food was wonderful and reasonably priced, but the wine list was very pricy. The staff was very friendly though. I had a big bday party here. We were able to order pretty much everything on the menu. However the only thing I didn't like about it was one of the appetizers. I thought the escargots were too small :-( Overall, I would go back for special occasions.

Yelp
Relatively new French restaurant in Burlingame. I met my friend here for dinner and it was alright. The complimentary bread that was the first course was not very good, it was cold and hard. But I guess it was free so can we really complain? My friend got the duck leg confit wellington and I got the beef bourguignon. My friend said her duck entree was really good, but unfortunately I did not feel the same away about mine. For me, the beef was still pretty tough so texture wise it didn't knock my socks off. Creme brulee was excellent though. In terms of service, it's a bit of a mixed bag. They were really busy on a Friday night but it was kind of annoying how little the wait staff came around to refill our waters, and the food here was kind of heavy so it was the kind of meal that definitely needed water replenishment. However, after my friend and I had finished eating at the restaurant and were continuing to chat around the neighborhood, I suddenly really had to use the bathroom lmao and this restaurant let me use their restroom like an hour after I finished dining there...so that's a huge plus haha Overall I will not be itching to come back but if you must dine here, I'm sure it will be fine.

Yelp
The clams were amazing, I loved the thick sauce it was basted in. Boeuf Bourguignon was also delightful, but came out colder side than I would have anticipated. Our server was top notch, she provided an exceptional experience to us, didn't rush us to eat, water was being poured timely, and our dishes came out within reason. Could use some light music for ambiance because it felt a little too quiet at times.

Yelp
The food is very excellent. Comforting French classics and best service I've ever had anywhere. Just a neighborhood classic exactly how it should be and great date night any day of the week.

Yelp
This place is so lovely and the food is delicious! The lobster ravioli was amazing. Every time I walk past the restaurant always has so many people inside and it is such a wonderful local spot for delicious food.

Yelp
This is a very charming restaurant in Burlingame. The foods were excellent and the waiter was courteous and helpful. We went to the one m SF before, and the service was totally unacceptable. I definitely recommend this Burlingame location to my friends.

Yelp
Wonderful service, authentic French dishes, this place brought me straight back to France. Highly recommend eating as much as you can, the 3 course deal is actually a VERY good deal. Cant imagine it'll last forever at the price that it's at, truly amazing.

Yelp
Such a beautiful evening last night at ChouChou with one of my high school girlfriends. We are lucky indeed to have a classic french restaurant as a relatively new addition to downtown Burlingame. I felt lucky to get a last minute Saturday night table. Ben took such great care of us, such q confident knowledgable, personable server, he enhanced our evening to the level of spectacular! We started with the grilled artichoke and escargot, both if which were spectacular. The former fragrant, lemony and delicate. i love when artichokes have singed outer leaves and a smoky flavor. The inside of the artichoke had a lemon forward delicate flavor. I haven't had escargot in years. They were garlicky, buttery, rich and decadent. After my first few one I wanted to order a second order to split, but after eating my second one, I was happy that we were splitting an order. A definite " must try " item. As our main course we shared the mixed seafood grill and it was wonderful, consisting of mahi mahi, halibut and salmon. The fish was perfectly grilled. We loved the spinach risotto, which was toothsome and unbelievably creamy. The opera cake and conversation with Ben about the San Francisco location and sister restaurant Catch provided the perfect ending to a great night.

Yelp
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner at ChouChou. Stellar service, classic menu with all dishes executed beautifully, and elegant ambiance. All in our party were delighted with the experience. The perfect choice for a celebratory night out.

Yelp
Service is outstanding, everybody from the host to the server are very friendly and accommodating and really make an effort to make your experience great. Food was good and flavorful, I had grilled seafood, my partner had ciopinno, both were good. Will definitely come back to try other items on the menu.

Yelp
Great addition to Burlingame! They team is very friendly and nice! When we came, it was during the grand opening week, the food was actually delicious! It is a cute very Parisian style restaurant and I highly recommend it if you're looking for something different in the Peninsula for dinner!

Yelp
I was sad when Stella Alpina moved out of this space, but I'm happy to say that ChouChou is honoring its memory. The food and service is great. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. Our favorite item was the lobster ravioli. My partner said he'd be back for the soup. Overall it's a win for a fancy dinner out. We paid about $50/pp for dinner, and felt it was totally worth it. Looking forward to finding an excuse to come back soon.

Yelp
I have had dinner here a few times. And has always been very good. I have their tuna tartar, lobster ravioli dish and also their rack of lamb. I highly recommend these dishes as very good. And their coffee affogato is great. Nannasz

Yelp
So excited there's a french spot in Burlingame! O R D E R E D - Mushroom Ravioli - Mussels - Escargot - Cream Corn Soup - Lobster Ravioli V E R D I C T Oh my god, the mushroom ravioli is so good, filled with so much mushroom! I don't think i've ever gotten mushroom ravioli from another resturant that used so much mushrooms - much appreciated from a mushroom lover like myself. I always love ordering escargot whenever I dine in at a French resturant and theirs was super flavorful, it might not be too big but decent sized enough to make me get 2 orders. The lobster ravioli was super yummy as well, but again, I can't stop raving about the mushroom ravioli.

Yelp
I made a reservation here for dinner, and I really enjoyed it! It's nice and bright inside, and the servers are really friendly. I had the escargot to start with, and this was full of flavor. The bread was perfect to sop up all the sauce. For my main, I had the filet of beef, and it was cooked perfectly! It was also very tender. It came with potato gratin and broccolini, and these were also delicious.

Yelp
Food: 3 stars Atmosphere: 4 stars Service: 3 stars Price: 1 star Wow.. $250 for two for a 3 course prefix. This is the only option they had for the Xmas eve dinner. No regular menu available. This includes a glass of red wine for $19. Yikes. Their website didn't inform the prefix is the only option available. The verdict - the dinner was NOT worth it at all to measure up to the price. I'd gladly pay $200 if it's a good meal with excellent service. This place, to be frankly honest, is mediocre at best and the price they charge tonight was honestly a rip off. Here's the honest food review: The ahi salad was good portion, and Allegra was fresh. But the truffle dressing was overpowering, and it just wasn't necessary in the dish. The ahi was very thinly sliced and didn't have any flavor in its own. The raised beef was flavored right, and also served in a good portion. The meat was tender and didn't have fatty parts which I prefer. I actually liked the dish, but again it just doesn't measure up to the price. The chocolate mousse cake was way too rich. Moose is supposed to be airy and light. This one was so dense and heavy like a consistency of New York cheesecake. I didn't even finish mine because I couldn't stomach it at the end. This never ever happens to me where I leave a dessert. Especially at a French place where dessert should be executed in perfection. Well at least that's what I'm used to. Overall I was really expecting a better quality from a French restaurant. I grew up eating French all the time, and just like Japanese they hold the highest standards in food preparation and quality. So this came even as a little shock to us. Lastly the service was inconsistent. If you are charged $250 for two, you'd expect a top of the class service in the Bay Area. The waitresses were friendly and courteous, but they couldn't remember who ordered what and kept handing us a wrong dish. Dead give away that they are not trained well. Also they took way too long to come take our order at the beginning, and also giving us a check at the end so we ended up waiting for a while. So let me do the math real quick. If it's $95 for the 3 dishes, let's say the ahi salad is $20, and the short rib could be $40 (at a over priced restaurant I've seen it) so that means the dessert is $35??? It just doesn't add up right. How do they justify their price? I wish we planned ahead and went to Gary Danko instead...

Yelp
5 stars?? No, this place is 10 stars! Everything - from the moment we were welcomed into the restaurant, offered our choice of tables, the service, the fabulous food, the lovely wait staff, the decor - was absolutely perfect. We felt like we were back in Paris! We had been wanting to try ChouChou since it opened and finally had the opportunity to go with good friends. My hubby and I split the beet salad which was perfectly done. Hubby had the short ribs and I had the duck Wellington. That duck was divine. Tender, not gamey or greasy. It was served with perfect roasted vegetables. I have no idea what my husband's short ribs tasted like because he cleaned the plate and I never got a bite! The nerve. Our friends had the short ribs and the lobster ravioli and loved it. For dessert, we shared the crème brûlée and our friends shared the apple tart. Then, our server brought out the mango panna cotta, compliments of the manager. We had no idea why but oh boy was that good. What a lovely treat! We were never rushed either. It was wonderful to have such a great dinner in such a beautiful restaurant with our friends. Price wise, our evening for the two of us, came to about 125.00 which included tip. I found this to be an excellent value and well worth it. I highly recommend ChouChou and I know we will be back!!
