Chow House

This might be one of my favorite Chinese food restaurants ever. I have had the Smoked Tea Duck twice before at other places but the one at Chow House is easily my favorite duck meal ever! It is crispy, perfectly cooked, full of flavor! I was also amazed by how good the onions were in the beef scallion dish. Still had a bite to them and were delicious. Also the atmosphere is cozy as well. I will definitely come back more than once to try everything!

This is a very good find for a lunch spot where they have some great deals at lunch where the meal comes with Hot and sour soup or egg rolls, the dishes also come with a choice of rices and what good specials they have, General Tso Chicken or pepper beef and Ma Po tofu and shredded pork with garlic sauce. Good design, decent service and a good location, this spot is a hidden gem and not to be missed at lunch time, same menu is almost double the price for dinner. We come here for lunch is much better than the takeout portions. Will be back, keep up the great service.

Loved the food here! The flavors are rich and authentic, with just the right amount of heat. You can really taste the Sichuan vibe in every dish. The portions are big and the prices are super reasonable — totally worth it!

The best mapo I’ve ever had (and I’ve had tons). Eggplant in garlic sauce is the best. Amazing for big groups or just a couple people. So great for the price too!!!

Going to cautiously give five stars since two of the dishes were quite tasty (cauliflower, pork belly) even though one fell short (spicy wontons). Flavor was definitely there for all the dishes, but the spicy wontons felt like they were cooked from frozen. Credit where credit is due: absolutely loved the flavor of the cauliflower and the pork. Couldn’t stop shoveling each of those two dishes into my mouth! I think this place is certainly worth a try, but just might pass on the dumplings.

Amazing place. Great food, great energy, and amazing service. Came here with a party 4 and nearly tried to order the entire menu. Great sichuan food - the cold appetizers weren’t that spicy but were very flavorful (would prioritize over the hot appetizers). We really liked the soups, very classic chinese taste and big portions for sharing. I’d recommend the west lake beef soup. All of the entrees were chef’s kiss - i really enjoyed the seafood. I think the tell of a good restaurant is how well they cook their vegetable dishes. The cabbage and cauliflower were so flavor - not too oily, perfectly spicy, huge portions. Highly recommend if you’ve been looking for an above par chinese restaurant with authentic flavors!

Authentic and flavorful without being extra oily. Food tastes light and delicious. Very high quality, calm and beautiful atmosphere and incredibly great service.

It's been just under a decade since Chow House started their reign as one of Manhattan's most consistent Chinese spots and have showed no signs of slowing down. They had me nervous during the pandemic, but have managed to stay afloat with high quality Sichuan fare and excellent service. The ubiquity of Sichuan cuisine has become the hottest (#1) Chinese regional specialty in the country, the popularity has played well in their favor. The American-sounding name "Chow House" doesn't evoke the same sentiment as their Chinese name (德悦轩), a joyous pavillion. Ultimately they are a very authentic restaurant and is easily the most legit option in the West Village. They've managed to do a pretty good job with the interior, which maximizes their narrow layout and is decked out with traditional Chinese style furniture and decor. I love the paintings and the subtle art pieces laid throughout the place and even love their dishware. They have a bar complete with baijiu bottles and a solid private area in the basement downstairs ideal for hosting 30-40 folks. While I feel the portions of the food have gotten a bit smaller (#2), the presentation of their dishes is on point. There are a lot of must-order dishes here, which includes their Chongqing spicy chicken (重庆辣子鸡), mapo tofu (麻婆豆腐), dan dan noodles (担担面), aromatic beef (五香牛肉), Sichuan sliced beef with tripe (夫妻肺片), the braised fish filet in bean sauce (豆瓣魚片), and their sauteed cumin lamb (孜然羊). Just ordering any combination of these dishes should satisfy the spiceheads in any group and among their best stuff. I do think their soup dumplings (小籠包) and dry pot cauliflower (乾鍋花菜) are not their strongest dishes. While some gringo palates are likely to rock the general tso's, I can actually say their Americanized dishes are quite good too. Lastly, I have had some epic experiences here with a number of people over the years. CJ the owner has always been kind and welcoming and his staff has done an excellent job ensuring that everyone on my end gets fed and leaves satisfied. The food was amazing, the service was great, and I will be back. We tried so many new dishes, and each one was amazing. The popcorn chicken and lo mein were huge hits with the kids, and we loved the pickled cucumbers, dumplings, fried rice, scallion pancake, twice cooked pork, crispy beef and all. Too many good things to mention all in a review, and so many other menu items we want to try next time. The restaurant was busy, but was able to accommodate a few large groups, and our table of 7 wasn't an issue at all.

Chow House is a consistently solid bet. You're really coming here for the food, but the service is great and the ambiance is a nice accompaniment to both. We came in on the later side on Friday most recently and were immediately shown to a table despite the lack of reservation. After being given exactly the right amount of time to deliberate, our server came around to take our order of wood ear mushrooms in vinegar, Dan Dan Noodles, and the pictured braised bloodcurd in chili. The mushrooms had that nice crunchy squidgy texture you're after and the Dan Dan Noodles had all the right Szechuan notes, numbing, little spicy, savory. Great start to prep for the main event: bloodcurd and friends over rice. Realistically, this thing could probably feed 4 but we gave it our best go. The Szechuan flavors again were on point, plenty of chili and pepper floating in amongst the bloodcurd, ham, mushroom, intestines, tripe and beef slices. If you're into off cuts, nothing beats this. But everything is good here, I can also recommend cumin lamb as a staple done really well. I wouldn't hesitate to order anything I happened to be in the mood for. Wash it all down with ambiance setting music, cool flatware, plenty of rice and relatively cheap Tsing Tao. Pro Tip: If you live in the neighborhood, don't sleep on the lunch special which is probably the best deal for blocks around.

Came here because we read the dumplings were really good. Sad to report they were pretty average. The soup dumplings were all right, but tasted like something you can just grab a Trader Joe's. That said it looked like a lot of the customers around us. We're getting noodle dishes so based on the reviews, I would try ordering that instead. Not terrible, just not a favorite place for dumplings. Restaurant is very clean and service is great

Been twice and not for me. It's sooo dirty and the main waiter practically yells at anyone not Asian. It's a big pass for me because walk ten feet in any direction and find better food. Three of us were there and just said meh.

Open since 2017, this is a popular Szechuan spot. Yes they have lo mein and General Tso (and so) and other dishes but I'd stick with the actual Szechuan/Sichuan dishes. I got a lychee sparkler as I wasn't in the mood for a beer. It was fine and helped with the mala from all the dishes. For cold appetizers, the first thing that arrived was the Aromatic Beef for $13 consisting of thinly sliced beef seasoned w. five-spice (star anise, cloves, chinese cinnamon, szechuan pepper and fennel seeds.) I preferred the beef flavor at some spots in Flushing which had a stronger five spice flavor but the price was reasonable and it was still tasty. The more expensive cold appetizer was the Spicy Beef Tendon. They had a nice chew and some good spice though this was the weakest of the appetizers in terms of portion for price. The last from the hot appetizers was the also reasonably priced Dan Dan Noodle/Dan DanMian for $9 consisting of said noodle w. peanut sesame sauce, topped with minced pork and spinach. There was a good bit of heat and the minced pork had good richness. It was reasonable for the price. From the chef specials, we went with the Spicy Aromatic Baked Whole Fish or braised whole tilapia with Asian chili and peppercorn which was $35. the fish was massive and it was soft but the sauce didn't impact as much flavor as I would have liked. I presumably would have preferred the slices in chili oil or the Poached Striped Bass which was the same price. This was a miss. From the entrees menu, the Red Braised Pork Belly/Hong Shao Rou $20 was nice and tender. The pieces were cut into small amounts which made it so it was a nice mix of fat and meat. Served on top of bok choy, this was an excellent dish. The Beef Stew with Cellophane Noodle consisting of slow cooked beef stew in a clay pot with cellophane noodles for $24 was also good though perhaps a bit chewy. The cellophane noodles did a good job absorbing the rich sweet sauce. From the vegetable selection, the Sautéed Lotus Root with black beans and chili was my preference. The black beans/douchi added some good sourness and the texture was nice as well with some crunch The Dry Pot Cauliflower/ sautéed Chinese cauliflower with pickled chili and pork belly for $15 was also pretty solid. The cauliflower could have been a bit more crisp for my liking but the flavors were solid. We also had Sautéed Bok Choy With Mushrooms or braised shiitake mushroom in brown sauce with steamed bok choy. Served very similarly to the pork belly, this was alright. Good amount of veggies but I found it a bit bland. For rice, we went with the Yang Chow (or Yangzou) Fried Rice or fried rice with shrimp, chicken, and ham for $16. Big portion yet again though I found the rice a tad bland though it wasn't too oily which is good. Food overall here is good. It's not the best Szechuan food but the prices are reasonable especially for the area. Mid/upper 3.

This place is extremely busy, so I highly recommend a reservation. The food is expensive for Chinese food - but on par with nicer Chinese establishments in the city - and is more focused on spicy Chinese food so it's a specific area of Chinese food being served. This isn't necessarily authentic Chinese food, but it is still pretty good. Soup dumplings: 9/10 The soup dumplings are a must! They are extremely juicy. I loved the flavor of the meat inside and the soup. They did a good job of steaming it so the interior contents are not too dry. Spicy Crispy Pork Ribs: 6/10 I honestly did not like these ribs at all. They were served with all these dry chili peppers and yet the dish itself wasn't that spicy and the peppers just got all over the table. The ribs itself didn't have much meat, there was a lot of fat! For $25 I was extremely disappointed in this dish. Not only did I not like the flavor and think it wasn't very spicy, but there wasn't that much meat on the ribs, lots of fat, and only 5 ribs. I would probably go with a dish that has sauce versus one that is dry next time. Lo Mein: 7.5/10 The lo mein is extremely average. The dish tasted good, but it isn't anything special. I've had very similar tasting lo mein at other restaurants, so you don't need to come here for this dish like you might with others. The menu here is extensive, but I think the dishes can be hit or miss. I would consider coming back here but for the higher price and chaotic atmosphere, I may choose somewhere else - despite how delicious the soup dumplings are.

After Church, My Chinese friend who wanted to take me and another member of the church out to explore of Chinese food. She picked Chow House to be the place to hanging out. I love Chinese food but with my friend, she shows me different type of Chinese food so from now on I have more knowledge when I go to Chinese restaurant. From starter, we have dumpling soup that stuck in a dumpling. Sauteed Snow pea leaves was terrific! Duck with bun is good. The oily dish is my Chinese friend idea. She just wants to show us the food that is common for Sichuan people. I don't really like it because it is too much oil. Lamb with dried chili is okay, a bit too much chilly and salty. Coconut water in can is too milky, I thought it will be clear and lighter. Restaurant has good seating and wonderful decoration. Service is also nice and friendly.

The best soup dumplings I have ever tried!!! They were so flavorful. We also got the spicy dumplings and the lo mein and those were both delicious. The food comes out pretty quickly as well. I already can't wait to come back!

Place is a bit small but the food is definitely authentic and delicious. Advice is to be there with everyone on time. Here for a birthday celebration and I wouldn't suggest that for a big group. The place is small and everyone would have to crowd in a little. The restaurant is well decorated with simple furniture and Asian theme. Food can be hit or miss. Most of the dishes are good especially their spicy chicken and Peking duck. I would say it's Szechuan food and they use really good quality. I can sense they don't hold back on spice and quality used. Service is good and attentive. We didn't feel rushed as we were last group to leave.

Came here for a chill meal with the girlfriend. We just wanted some nice non-fancy Asian food with veggies. Chow House gave us exactly what we came for! The twice cooked pork is yummy, and the veggies were clean and refreshing. The space inside is quite large so you likely do not need reservations, though I did have one. Food came out pretty fast as well which was nice, though it took us long at the end to flag down someone for the check. Overall, pretty tasty food in a chill, low key restaurant!

Our party of three was craving specifically for authentic braised pork belly and didn't want to trek to Chinatown. We found chow house through yelp but was suspicious whether the dishes were authentic considering the west village location. To our surprise, the dishes were delicious. We ordered the braised pork belly which sits on a bed of bok choy, the spicy fried beef (so good), only the noodles was lackluster. Will come back for the spicy fried beef. Service was impeccable and the space is well decorated with a relaxing ambiance.

Food was good and service was quick. They food is very spicy so be ready for that. I got the string beans, mustard greens fried rices and ma po tofu. All were great and I really loved the string beans! Authentic Chinese Szechuan food!

A solid restaurant if you're looking for good authentic Chinese food in the area. The food packs flavor and is fresh. I recommend starting with the dumplings and scallion pancakes. Both were delicious. The only disappointment was the service. It was not great.

I'd consider chow house just another slightly above average Szechuan spot. We ordered the spicy aromatic baked fish, the mushroom dry pot, the sautéed pea shoots, and the general tso chicken. Our favorite dish was the mushroom dry pot, which came with 4 types of mushrooms of different textures. The spice level was good on both the dry pot and baked fish. The fish was cooked well, and there was a good amount of vegetables and enoki to pick at around the fish. The sautéed pea shoots were as expected.

Deserves its reputation for good food at a decent price. We enjoyed the duck fried rice and the spicy beef, but they do run out of soup dumplings at dinner, so don't go in with expectations around that dish. While the staff is quite friendly, there is never quite enough attention to keep your drink full or keep the food coming...you'll always have some downtime. The room isn't terribly noisy, but like many places in the lower west side, you'll be close enough to hear other conversations.

I loved our lunch at this unassuming Chinese restaurant in a great location in Greenwich village. We walked over expecting it to be just a typical takeout University fare, but once you walk in the decor is so cute, there's a huge room in the back with fountains and paintings and flowers and cute little pagodas that you can sit in. The menu was pretty extensive and my husband who did a travel abroad program to China when he was younger, commented that the hot chili oil whole fish with peppercorn was the best he's had since. The service was excellent, and there was no wait when we arrived. The soup dumplings were also really good! Honestly, I wish I was hungrier so that I could try more things on the menu! Worth checking out if you're in the area!

My brother and I each had the whole fish with peppercorns. It was ridiculously good. Well prepared and a massive portion. We also really enjoyed the veggie pan fried dumplings. The service was phenomenal as well. Can't wait to go back.

If you're looking for a great Sichuan spot in the city, this is NOT the place to go. Ordered takeout via Fan Tuan and separate from the 90 minute wait, they forgot the spring rolls. The portion sizes were quite pathetic (4 dumplings for $10) and the chicken pieces were tiny. Half of my shrimp dish was covered in cabbage to mask the fact that I paid $25 for 6 shrimp. Most of my chicken was covered in dried chilis to cover the tiny amount and tiny pieces of chicken. Don't waste your time (90 mins) or your money ($120 for 6 tiny dishes). You're better off at Han Dynasty or any of the other amazing Sichuan places in Chinatown. This place used to be good. What a shame.

wow! Food here is amazing and it's definitely a well loved spot. I'd make a reservation because there was a line at the door. It's busy and loud. Not the prettiest or most romantic spot. Service isn't great but they are swift and refill waters. Food was delicious. The crispy fish was the favorite - it's sweet and tangy. The cold apps were awesome too - loved the cucumber. I really enjoyed the snow pea leaves too! Great flavor. 4.5 stars if I could! We'll be back. I went in a group of three and it was about $40 per person. Came out super full. Family style dishes - get stuff to share!!

Took daughter and her six (!) friends out for dinner last night. Chow House takes reservations (one of few Chinese restaurants that do), so given the party size and that I needed to make a train back to Philly that evening the reservation was a must. Seated at nice large table at back of restaurant, quiet enough for us all to have a conversation, nice ambiance, great service. Tried a LOT of different items, with two vegetarians in the group had to order a variety of items (V indicates vegetarian). Vegetarians said they liked everything. Cucumber in spicy and sour dressing (V) - 3/5 (I like the one I make better with chili garlic crisp) Pan-fried vegetable dumpling (vegetarians said they liked it) Pan-fried pork dumpling - 5/5 Steamed soup dumpling - 5/5 Scallion pancakes - (V) 5/5 Dan Dan Noodle (appetizer portion only) - 5/5 Vegetable soup with tofu (V) Hot & Sour Soup - 5/5 Braised fish in spicy chili broth - 4/5 (I've had better elsewhere, there was some flavor in there that was unusual to me) Walnut with shrimp - 3/5 (too much batter, too sweet) Spicy crispy pork ribs - 3/5 (too much batter) Mapo tofu - (V) 3/5 (maybe because no meat, not that tasty, tofu semi-firm which is not my preference) Sauteed snow pea leaves - 5/5 Eggplant in garlic sauce - 5/5 Sauteed bok choy with mushroom - 5/5 Vegetable fried rice (V) - didn't get to try it, vegetarians said it was good Twice-Cooked Pork - 5/5 (This was hands down the best entree by far) So, overall, really good appetizers, twice-cooked pork, and vegetables. If I need to eat at a Chinese restaurant that takes reservations I'll come back and be more selective in my ordering. Lychee martini was delish!

Another Szechuan spot, but this one is one for the books! I always forget how much I love the west village until I'm actually there. For those of you who love hanging in LES, the west village is just as great. But I digress... Took the Hubs here before a comedy show and we really enjoyed it. I started with the passion fruit green tea and it was just what I needed. Somewhat sweet but not overly done, it took everything in me not to drink it but in one sip. For food we ordered steamed pork dumplings, lo mein with chicken and vegetables and the smoked tea duck. Let me tell you, that duck stole the show. Perfectly crispy and it comes with 4 of the most fluffiest steamed buns. A dab of hoisin sauce and a piece of cucumber and it's literally the perfect bite. Service was great, but it will take a bit of time for the food to come out. They also have a great cocktail, beer and wine menu as well. Definitely heading back here for future meals if I'm heading to another show!

Good, traditional food at a reasonable price. No wow factor but it's all you could want. Service is also nice.

We have been long time fans of Han Dynasty since our Philly days and Chow House has now joined our small catalogue of great go-tos for Sichuan food. Spice levels and flavors are big here. We loved the mapo tofu, shredded beef and the chongqing chicken. I also ordered a MaiTai (which I was weary about ordering) but it was a pretty decent cocktail! While we were there we did notice a lot of massive dishes other people were ordering - we don't know what they were but have resolved to find out on our next visit.

Good food and a local Chinese place. Nothing particularly special about the place but the food was very good. The soup dumplings could be improved. The rest of meal was very much enjoyed.

Had another excellent meal at Chow House. I liked it so much I went back a few weeks later with my family. Obsessed with the fish in chili broth! Everyone loved it!

This place is a gem. Food is 10/10. One thing I always worry about when I walk into an Asian restaurant is that they change the taste of the food to match the Western style. Here in Chow House they didn't hesitate to put those spices and red peppers, which you don't see much in Western food. I love spicy food, especially spicy food with unique flavors. Here I got both. The resultant itself needs to be more staff. This is a big restaurant based on new york standards, and I think there were only 2 or 3 waiters there when I went. Overall 10/10 would come back. I have already bookmarked it

It was easy to make reservations and we were sat promptly. After the server took our order, the dishes were served quickly. Good prices for the portions, and they offered a 10% discount for NYU students if you show your NYU ID. The tomato egg drop soup could have more flavor but everything else was delicious!

I disagree with the 5 star ratings here. I think this place is a hit or miss. Their menu is extensive and I'm sure they have some star of the show dishes. Sadly, I think we just didn't pick any of those. Spicy braised whole fish -- This was fine, it came with a lot of vegetables which was a plus. However, it was very greasy. Mushroom pot -- The mushrooms were actually very good and tender. However, the portion was fairly small and there were a lot of red chiles and scallions compared to the amount of mushrooms. Salt and Pepper squid -- Can't comment on the flavor because I don't like squid, but the portion size was deceiving. You get maybe 5-6 pieces of squid, heavily battered, and a whole mountain of fried onions. General Tsos chicken -- Sad to say this was probably the worse I've had in NYC... the batter was thick and stale and it wasn't spicy at all. Broccoli also looked microwaved because they were uncooked. I guess there aren't many Szechuan places in the immediate area, but I would stick to the other options around.

(Overall: 68% | D) - I ordered the sweet and spicy fish filet lunch special that came with a wonton soup and white rice. Unfortunately, I found the name of the dish to be quite misleading as it was not sweet with the only flavor coming through being the sichuan spice. The wonton soup had wontons without meat, but nevertheless paired well to complement the spice of the fish, which was redeemingly tender. However, the spice is so strong it completely ruins the appeal of the rest of the dish.

Coming on a rainy Monday at 2pm to avoid lunch rush. Food is good. We ordered walnut shrimp and braised fish with broad bean sauce.

As you walk in you can smell the aroma of them yummy dumplings!! So Yoyo and Danny was our waiter/waitresses and she saw that we was beyond excited to try all the different types of dumplings as she patiently wait for us to pick our dumplings and sample she was more pleasant to our sense of humor that they had so much variety of different dumplings including vegetables ones and them shot was coming in! So Thank you for having our company and chiming on the jokes too Danny and YoYo definitely will be back!!!

A fan favorite among my friends! We come here way too much. It's a solid place to get Chinese food without waiting in a long line at an affordable price. I love their fish filet in spicy sauce, lamb with cumin, string beans, Chong qing spicy chicken, spicy wontons, you name it. I have never ordered a dish I didn't enjoy. Highly recommend this place!

Very happy with this spot! Just walking in from the seating layout, it's very ideal for different size groups. We were the biggest group at the beginning but towards the end a group 10 people/big family came in! This place had a lot of highlights to the meal but in particular I really thought they did they chicken dish, the mapo tofu dish, and the steamed fish well! The tripe one was also pretty good but I'm a fan of tripe in general so that's always a win. I know I'd order all of those again and be happy with them. But I'm sure there's plenty more I haven't tasted so I better save room for two more new dishes to try!! They also had a number of refreshing drinks and I got their passionfruit one which wad a pretty big glass and the flavor was powerful. Never a bad thing with passionfruit, if you know you know!

Great Szechuan spot! Came with a group of friends and tried a bunch of different appetizers and main dishes because there are so many tasty options to choose from. The veggie appetizers were fresh and crisp. I enjoyed all of the main dishes, but my favorites were the honey walnut prawns and the mapo tofu. I've been craving honey walnut prawns for a while now and am happy to find a place that does it right. The mapo tofu came out hot and perfectly seasoned. Both were delicious with steamed white rice. I look forward to going back!

I came here twice once only for the pork soup dumplings as a small snack and it was good. The second time we wanted to try different plates for dinner. I tried the beef soup it was all fat. I immediately returned it, they were nice about it. My boyfriend got the lamb cumin and it was all chili peppers. Not spicy at all. But no meat? We ordered the cold sichuan beef appetizer and it was all fat and no flavor. We also got a an Long Island ice tea and it was made of coke and lime juice instead of ice tea.... They tried to charge me for the Long Island ice tea twice bc I was sitting at the bar waiting for a table to eat at. What a mess. Never again.

Enjoyed my late lunch at Chow House. I ordered the Szechwan Wontons and the Dan Dan Noodles. Both were very fresh and had a lot of flavor to them. I do like my Szechwan Wontons to be spicier than how they were prepared here (every restaurant I order Szechwan Wontons at seems to prepare them completely differently - they never are even similar) but the Dan Dan Noodles were very good and I would definitely come back here just for those. There is an extensive menu which I didn't get to try since I was just grabbing a quick late lunch - but everyone looked good. As this is a nice place in the middle of the village, I imagine they do get packed at times. Again, I was happy with my visit and would have no qualms about returning again in the future.

Had the chance to visit Chow House again and things are still just as good or better. I came in and dined with a large group of friends, about 8 of us. They were able to accommodate our large party. Don't remember who was in charge of ordering the food, but a lot came out in rapid fire succession. It seemed like regardless what you ordered, it was always a hit. Started off with some appetizers. The dishes that stood out to me included Sichuan Slice Beef with Tripe, Steamed Soup Dumpling, and Szechuan Wonton. There were some very refreshing veggie appetizers I also enjoyed, including the Tiger Salad and Cucumber in Garlic Dressing. For entrees, man we feasted. Soo many dishes, which were amazing in their own way. Mapo Tofu is fantastic with a bowl of rice. Spicy Aromatic Dry Pot is one of my favorites. The variety of items you get with a nice spiciness and a hint of sweet. Walnut Shrimp may be one of the best I've had. Food is great, but they stopped lunch specials and reduced dumpling orders from six to four without notice (wtf). It WAS my favorite spot! What a bummer.

Oh man. So many dishes to choose from as my favorite. I don't know where to start! The Tiger Salad was light and refreshing with a slight kick to it. It complemented very well with the other dishes very well. The Sautéed Snow Pea Leaves with Garlic and the Cucumber in Garlic Dressing were also delicious. I love dry hot pot in general and get it so often, wherever it may be! I was able to try both dry pot and soup versions and they were so good. They did not skimp out on the ingredients. There were plenty of tripe and beef in the dishes too. My personal favorite of the two was the Dry Pot version. Another dish that stood out was their fish! It was cooked perfectly and was so tender. It was so easy for the bone to be taken out. I'm always a fan of Mapo Tofu and the one from Chow House did not disappoint at all. The tofu was so soft and it went perfectly with rice. The walnut with shrimp dish was absolutely phenomenal. You should definitely order that if you visit! It was one of my favorites. I enjoyed all the dishes from this restaurant and would definitely come back to try the other dishes they have to offer.

Dined in for dinner in Chow house with my friends on a weekend. We went in early at 6pm and were quick to be given a table. Restaurant Staff were friendly and helpful. The food was delicious, we ordered - Schezwan dumplings ( highly recommended ), steamed veggie dumplings ( ok ) and scallion pancakes ( yum ) for appetizers. For mains we ordered the chicken specials - Three pepper chicken, Mushroom dry pot ( delicious ) and another chicken schezwan dry pot dish. Overall very satisfied with the flavors and expectations. Definitely recommend

perfect amount/a little too much for 4 people! a little too spicy/heavy for me, but the flavor is amazing and the food was pretty traditional. my favorite was the duck fried rice, very basic but always slaps

We have been here a couple of times. I have to begin by saying that all of the staff is incredibly kind, professional and just amazing. You can tell a lot about ownership through the employees. The food is just divine! Shrimp dumplings and soup dumplings are our go to. We tried the dry rub mushrooms. Very flavorful and wonderful texture. It was a little greasy and too much chili oil at the bottom. I wish it did have a little less oil. All in all, a good dish though. Just wish it had less oil. We have tried some of the other dishes in the past and you really can not go wrong. The tea is fragrant and floral - jasmine green tea.

Really good, authentic Chinese food, man! Got the shredded pork with steamed rice from the lunch menu, and had an incredible iced lychee iced tea to go with it. Service was prompt and friendly. The inside is exactly what you'd expect for a little place in the city. I'd eat here regularly if I could.

I made a reservation for 5 at 7:30pm. Our party became four. I'm not sure if that changed when we got seated, but we waited about 20 minutes before a table opened up for us. I was a little annoyed, but it was Chinese New Year so they probably had an unprecedented amount of business both in person and take out/delivery. In fact, there was a constant slew of people coming to pick up take out orders! Once, we were seated. We each ordered a drink and then the hardest part began. How to order enough but not too much delicious food. Below was what we got. 1) Cucumbers with garlic sauce - 4/5 Always my go to at restaurants but I think it was missing some vinegar. I think I make it better than the one here. 2) Cold Sesame Noodles - 5/5 This was really good!! I can see myself ordering it again. It was simple and tasty with a great kick at the end. 3) Chinese Broccoli with chili -3/5 I was surprised that we mainly had the stems without much of the leaves. It was ok. I've had better home cooked vegetables at home. 4) Ma po tofu - 5/5 I love ma po tofu. It's very hard to mess it up. The one here is delicious. The tofu had a lot of substance in terms of texture and flavor. 5) Lamb dish -3.5/5 It was a good meat dish. Nothing spectacular but it did its trick. 6) Braised fish - 5/5 This is really hard to screw up! One of my favorite szechuanese dishes! I liked that it wasn't too spicy - like it didn't have the same szhecuan peppercorn taste which I personally preferred but others thought it needed more spice. 7) Smoked tea duck fried rice - 4.5/5 I'm not one to order fried rice usually when I'm dining out, but we got this because of all the rave reviews on Yelp. It did not disappoint! Overall, the food was delicious! I would come back to try the other dishes.

Been coming here for a while now, have to say it's one of the best Sichuan places around the west village!! The staff are very friendly, and the atmosphere is very cute! The type of seats they chose and decoration makes it feel like you're back in China! We came on a Wednesday night and it was pretty dead. There were probably only 3 tables with people. Soup dumplings: 3/5 These had a good flavor, but the skin was a little thick, and there wasn't much soup inside. Dry pepper chicken: 5/5 Very tasty, bursting with great flavor, and they all had a nice crunchy texture. A must when you come here Bok choy: 5/5 Staple vegetarian dish. Not too soggy, good flavor, and delicious when paired with the soup dumpling sauce! Tomato egg: 4/5 I love how they're not frugal with the amount of eggs they give. Most place I feel like give more tomatoes. Delicious flavor, just wished it was a bit more saucy like other places. Definitely a must when you come here. Braised Fish: 5/5 Fish had such a soft texture, and the sauce it was in also tasted really good with the rice. The tofu was very silky, felt like butter. Will come again!

I am a fan of "dandan noodles" and probably will have them in every place I can...as much as I can...along with the spicy cucumbers...and that is exactly what I had. It's probably the easiest food order to do besides grilled cheese...my other fav. I was in NYC for work and then vacation and so it was easier on some evenings to just order food. It wasn't the best I have had but definitely was filling and flavorful.
