"the crinkle of a paper masala dosa at Chowpatty, the restaurant where my mother and I lunched on a recent trip"

"Named after a beach in Mumbai and founded in 1990, Chowpatty is an Iselin, New Jersey restaurant specializing in food from Gujarat. The walls are lined with swaying palm trees, and the menu is strictly vegetarian. Highlights include pani poori (tiny crisp pastries to be filled by the diner with tamarind water), pav sandwiches made on Portuguese rolls, dosas, thali meals served on trays, a buttermilk soup called khadi, and kaju karela — a curry of cashews and bitter melon." - Robert Sietsema

Google
Great little place … sort of a chat house feel with modern decor. Excellent and fast service. Very clean. Lots of variety so ideal for large groups or families with kids that want 10 different things. Will come back and will try the deserts next time.

Chowpatty Restaurant is a special place to visit maybe once a year because of its beautiful Mumbai theme and paintings. The food might not be tasty, strong in flavor and could seem a bit expensive what they charge. Also, they could do better with keeping the place clean. We even found a hair in our food, but when we told the staff, we didn't get any response. This is a chance for them to improve and make sure everything is as good as the lovely decorations.

First time to this place tried fries , Dahi Bella , cheese pav , samosa chaat , pani poori , chole bhatura all tasted good the way of presentation was excellent. Prompt service .You to find some nice Thali & North Indian curries & dosa varieties too .Highly recommended

I had an amazing dining experience at Chowpatty in New Jersey. The food was absolutely delicious, the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. Highly recommend for authentic Indian cuisine! Will definitely be back.

I went to this place about 15-17 years ago. The food was not impressive, the chats were soggy, place was not very clean, tables were sticky, service was ridiculous and I never felt like going back there again - although we go to Oak Tree Road a couple of months all these years. Never bothered recommending it to anyone as well. However, we venturned out two weeks ago early in the evening as a family of four members. This time our experience was totally different. The place looks very nice, service was super-fast, the food was fresh, chats tasted excellent. I will definitely be going back there again and I highly recommend this place as well. My experience was totally different and happy that I visited them and gave them another chance.

Google
We ordered Raj kachori chaat for which they used pani puri wala big puri , paneer tacos were cold and the tortilla were not even pan roasted , Chiku milkshake was watery like juice, the mix platter was another bad dish… in all the food had some kind of weird smell!!!

Google
Great service, servers were quite courteous. The ambiance is decent as well. However, food is just awful. I felt nauseated after eating here. Most of the food came to the table seconds within ordering. One could easily guess they just warmed frozen food and served. TASTELESS and extremely unhealthy. I'll highly advise you not to even try this place, or else you'll end up returning sick.

Always a great experience. Really authentic Indian food, and superb fresh quality. Doesn’t make you feel bloated at all like some other places.

Yelp
amazing south Indian vegetarian/vegan restaurant very trendy bollywood fun atmosphere the waiter was very friendly and explained the menu i couldn't believe how fast we got our food all delicious the the hakka asian Indian noodles had just the right heat, fresh hot butter glazed naan right out of the oven got he big assorted platter and a potato dosa crisp and thin and once again just enough spice all the customers were indian except us but we felt welcomed everyone smiling family's. couples out on a mild saturday night the area is like a small hollywood rodeo drive can't wait to comeback and tru the other 8 restaurants and dosa shops there were atleast 6 fancy jewelry stores 4 women's elegant bridal salons and 2 separate men's bridal clothing shop and 5 or more indian clothing shops all wonderfully colorful we really felt we were in a foreign magical place the streets were filled with women and girls dressed in beautiful indian saris and gauzy pants along with modern clothing

Yelp
This place is right next to their snack/sweet shop. This place has the restaurant at the first floor and the second floor has a party hall. The restaurant ambiance is Bollywood theme. Service was slow, we were given the menu but nobody came up to take our order so we walked to them at the counter to give the order. Same when we were finished with the food, we went up to take the check. Again, unsure if that's what we were required to do. I would think otherwise as it's a restaurant. They do have plenty of options in their menu. However we ordered chili paneer with gravy and samosa chaat. Chili paneer came with rice. It was a good dish. Samosa chaat was a disappointment. They overly used some type of (red sauce) that just made the dish taste garlicky. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

Apoorva G.

Yelp
The food is ok, the menu is definitely a little confused as they cater to so many different types of cuisines. I would stick their North Indian appetizers only. Service is pretty bad and slow and no one checks on you.

Yasser H.

Yelp
Craving chaats, led us to Chowpatty for a subsequent visit. We ordered the samosa chaat and the chaat papri. I did notice that the restaurant has spiked up their prices. Where it felt the most was the masala tea, an 8 oz tea for $4. Both the chaats were good. I do prefer them a bit more spicy, as the yogurt in them subdued the spice. Nonetheless, they were good. Priced at $11, where their competitors offer it for $7-$8. Service was table side to order food and they were punctual. The interior is trendy. Some nice Muriels of famous bollywood celebs.

Yelp
Went to Chowpatty over the weekend. The decor / paintings on the wall are really impressive. The menu has so much variety from Mexico fusion to Gujarati Thalis that are traditional. I ordered the papdi chaat and idli sambar. My parents got the dosas. Everything tasted so fresh and good. The sambar quantities weren't enough but they gave us more when needed. Overall the service was pretty sufficient too.

Sonia P.

Yelp
Fun place to get your cravings satisfied! They have all the usual Indian Fast Food options and more. Well staffed and quick service. The decor is great! They've obviously taken pains to recreate an Indian roadside dhaba (truck stop restaurant) feel with trucks and auto rickshaws coming out of the wall and murals of old Hindi movie wpainted on the sides! Super cool!! We got some of the standard fare - samosas, pani puri, dahi bhalla chaat, Pav bhaji and Chole bhature. They also have vada pav, dosas and an Indian-Chinese menu but I don't know how good or bad these are. Everything we ordered was satisfactory and the waiters were attentive. They also have a next door take out joint attached to the restaurant where you can get a variety of mithais, dhokla, samosas and golguppas to go.

Vineet P.

Yelp
Good service once Jitu came himself to take care of us. He made sure we enjoyed and also served complimentary sweets.

Percy N.

Yelp
Usually get the raj Kachori chat, though ask if the Kachori is fresh and crispy. Pav bhaji is popular, as is the falooda and Chickoo milkshakes.

Yamini A.

Yelp
Solid gujrati thali. I love the small, warm and fresh rotli and the little fried vada, as well as the dry aloo shak !! Beyond a filling meal, I felt like I was totally about to pass out after eating . Also cute ambience with painted murals covering all the walls showing scenes from India.

P T.

Yelp
Excellent food! I order delivery from them all the time and the food is always well packaged, fresh and good quantity. I typically order their BYOT (build your own thali) and veg club sandwich. The thali is great and I love their tindola shaak and khadi, it's so good!! My wife loves their khaman and khichdi. The veg club sandwich is one of my new favorites.. it's a triple layer sandwich with veggies, cheese and chutney. I just love how fresh the food tastes and it's all made with such love. I'm glad I can order from here whenever I'm craving guju food!!

Yelp
There is not much more I can say about Chowpatty other than that they go above and beyond for their clients all while providing amazing, clean, high-quality food. We have been catering from Chowpatty for our family events dating back to 1998. Even with the growth of Indian catering in New Jersey, Chowpatty still continues to be our go-to for all things food so we knew we wanted them to cater our wedding events! With the exception of our wedding and reception (due to venue exclusivity), we had Chowpatty cater our Mehndi, Sangeet, and Pithi events. Each menu was so thoughtfully created to ensure that all events had different cuisines with unique dishes. Neil spent many hours with both of our families, helping us finalize our menus in detail all while keeping our individual interests in mind. Chowpatty seamlessly accommodated our request for dishes without no onion/garlic as well. They even created a boba drink station for our Sangeet as requested! There is truly nothing they are not willing to make work for their guests. There is something to be said about having nothing but positive experiences for the near 30 years that we have been catering from Chowpatty. I can say this is all thanks to none other than the family-like relationship they keep with their clients!

Yelp
Just ordered salted lassi and honestly tasted like shit. They recommended to me. The service was bad. Do not recommend at all

Yelp
Colorful pictures of dishes and the interiors from fellow reviewers are what that caught my eyes into trying out this place. Finding a street parking was such a pain in the super busy Oak tree road and after few back and forth, we finally found a spot right by the entrance on the street. Wonder how many customers they lost through frustration for not being able to find a parking. The place looked warm and the murals (Indian vendors and Bollywood's own Shahenshah and Badshah) adorn the wall and the funny dubs of an Indian auto rickshaw and a truck (with Sunny Devil as the driver) would definitely make you stop by click some pictures. We were seated and attended right away with no waiting time. Their menu has some wonderful fusions that you won't find everywhere. We only ordered Bhel puri, ragada samosa and a chaat platter for old times' sake but was more interested to try the Pav Bhaji quesadilla, which we did. We also got a plain dosa which was South Indian enough on the authenticity scale. We loved our time here and the food here was fantastic. We will be back soon to try out their other items on the menu. PS - If you are on Yelp, check in and get a 5% off discount on your bill

Yelp
Very good! I ordered the vege Hakka noodles to go. First off it was packed in the typical to go plastic container but then Saran wrapped on top of that. I thought that was cool and very neat. Anyway, when I took the the lid off I was slapped in the face with the aroma of what I automatically knew was going to be some tasty noodles. The smell alone told me what I got myself into. The first bite made me feel like they prepared and seasoned each noodle individually. It was very flavorful and had a nice level of spice to really take the flavor over the top. I really enjoyed these noodles and will certainly try more of the traditional items they have on their menu. Really happy I tried this place.

Vik N.

Yelp
Great quality food always dine or delivery! Excellent service, definitely a favorite and reliable go -to when it comes to Thalis!

Vinita B.

Yelp
This place has almost every Indian dish you could ever wish for, and more. The menu includes both North Indian and South Indian. What's more is they not only have the classic and traditional items like dosas and daal, but then they also have some creative fusion things like paneer ravioli, pav Bhaji quesadillas, and Mexican bhel. Everything tasted great but my favorite was the idli Sambar. The paneer ravioli was a bit strange but not in a bad way. Chai and other drinks are great too. Service can be a hit or miss but mostly good.

Ashka V.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my meal here!! I came here on a Saturday evening at 8pm with my family (party of 4) and there was absolutely no wait. Parking took us about 5 minutes to find, it is street parking so make sure you read the signs if you go during the day to avoid a ticket. The interior is soooo trendy and fun. They have like a rickshaw and a basic indian truck made. Whoever did the paintings did a phenomenal job, there are paintings of shah rukh khan, amitabh bachan and more! It's fun to sit there and soak in the vibes, the music is also super fun and upbeat. Chowpatty really sets the tone for street style indian fusion food. Service is overall also super nice, everyone is quick to get you anything you need. The bathroom is not as clean as I hoped sadly, it smells a little funny also. But they give a full bottle of sanitizer for every table! Such a nice touch, especially during covid. Servers are still wearing masks here (I feel like I've been to SO many places where restaurants have given up on the mask mandate). One time, a waiter figured out what we needed before we even asked for it! How amazing. All utensils are paper or plastic, so I wouldn't consider this a fancy place but probably somewhere great to go for a quick and fun bite. Let's talk about the food/drinks: - Thumbs up - MUST have with Indian food, it's like a sweet version of coca cola & goes really well with everything. - Mexican papdi chat: AMAZING. There are crispy tortilla chips, warm beans, salsa, onions, creamy sauce, peppers, lettuce and more! It's actually really spicy but very yummy. I 10/10 recommend if you love spice! We got this as an appetizer and were able to share it between 4 people and it was just enough. - Pav bhaji quesadilla - so I thought this was going to be just cheese and some pav bhaji masala, but they actually had some pav bhaji in there! It was seasoned with onions, lettuce and fresh cilantro and it came with like a spicy garlic chutney. It's kind of a small portion but it's REALLY GOOD! I've definitely never had a quesadilla with this kind of flavor before and I think it's worth a try! Also it's definitely not too spicy, but you can always add a little more chutney if you like spice. -Veg Hakka Noodles - Also pretty good, although this was probably my least favorite out of the things we ordered because I felt there was a little too much soy sauce which made it kind of salty. If you order it, maybe request if there can be a little less soy sauce and add it on the side if you need more. These are also SPICY, but in a great way -- I really enjoyed that about them. There were also vegetables (onions, peppers etc.). The portion, like the quesadilla, was small but a good addition if you're getting a bunch of things to share which is what we did. They give you spicy mayo and chili oil with it, both of which are delicious to add on top. - Paneer Makhni Ravioli - SO SO SO SO GOOD!!!!!! The ravioli comes out HOT, it's stuffed with paneer, tastes so fresh and has a rich and creamy makhni based sauce. I LOVED it. If you like paneer or chicken makhni, you will LOVE THIS. 10/10, would get again! This was not spicy however, it's kind of mild so if you want it to be spicy I'd ask for something on the side OR as them to make it spicy for you. Overall excellent food and service. Every dish is decently priced (from like $8 to $14 in range) and worth it for a cool and innovative meal! Totally try it out!

Ash J.

Yelp
The food was average. They offer a 5% coupon discount off the bill when you check in via Yelp. The owner did not honor his own promotion, however wants to get recognition and publicity by customers checking in. So I will ensure they get publicity but it will not be the publicity they were expecting. We all know reviews drive customer decision, so it was a foolish decision by the owner not to honor a 5% coupon, especially when you weigh the impact this review will have on customers coming to this place to eat. Overall experience disappointing

Ronak P.

Yelp
Tried their Mysore Masala Dosa but it was kind of okaiesh however tried Samosa chaat which was delicious and the last item was Dahi Bataka Poori in which poori was not fresh but the masala was damn good Definitely if you check in 5% is a discount and the staff is pretty friendly I would say a bit costly compare to market but can try one time

Shubhi M.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING. They have really good quality bombay street food for a decent price. We got the pav bhaji and samosa chaat, both were great but the pav bhaji was extra special. I've had pav bhaji in so many places but something about this place is extra special and they give a spicy red chutney to put on the bread that adds a lot of flavor. The samosa chaat was tasty and the samosa stayed very crispy despite being soaked in chickpeas and other sauces. But I think the best part was the ambiance, they had outdoor covered seating with mist and fans which was so nice and cooling in the 96 degree temperature and they managed to still have lots of cool decorations and not just putting a plastic table outside. They also gave every table their own bottle of hand sanitizer (what an awesome personal touch!!) and ice cold water, which seems like a silly thing to point out but a lot of places in Edison are giving water bottles and charging without telling you they'll be charging you. Definitely a great place to stop by!!

Krina S.

Yelp
I like coming here with family. They have plenty of space and they recently re-did the murals inside and they look beautiful! There's a lot to choose from on the menu so if you're going with a group, everyone should be able to find something they like. Nothing here is out-of-this-world, but it is consistently good. I recommend the paneer tikka and masala dosa. Prices are reasonable. Overall, a great place for a light but satisfying lunch.

Saba A.

Yelp
We ordered the samosa chaat. It was basically one samosa floating in chanay masala. No yogurt, no chutney, no onions. Really bad. Never coming here again, samosa paradise for the win.

Greesh S.

Yelp
Ordered Mix plate which was delicious .However, plan Dosa was disappointingly tasteless along with chutneys.Masala Dosa was even worse .They were not crispy.Masala had wrong ingredients and lacked typical south Indian taste. When gave feedback, the manager simply said we should have asked to "redo it". Staff was polite and place was clean but empty. Of course, will not go again.

Anand D.

Yelp
We've tried a few different items here including dabeli, chaat, and paneer. Everything was delicious for a fast casual Indian restaurant. We would return.

Kim R.

Yelp
Walked in for lunch outside seating. The hostess/waitress was pleasant and wanted us to be happy giving us every option of seats. The decor was adorable. And made for great and trendy picture taking. We got mango lassis panner tacos and paneer makhani with naan lunch special. BYOB. The bathroom was also clean and great. Can't wait to go back for a relaxing Saturday lunch!

Jacob G.

Yelp
The food is excellent. Maintaining the standard is key. Mumbai style street food to enjoy this is the right place

Radhika P.

Yelp
WORST place to order for catering! I had placed an order for 32 people and was confirmed by owner itself (Neil). When I went to pick it up at 6:30 the time which was gave by them so the guy on register brings all the trays from the kitchen and all the trays were marked on a lid for 25 ppl. So I asked them how many people was it for? And not just one for person but 3 people from their staff confirmed that the food was for only 25 ppl so I showed them the order and the confirmation text from the owner itself his words "confirmed for 32 ppl" so they told me to give them few mins and will deliver the food for 32 ppl, so I asked them to pack 7 ppl food separately. After, 30 mins we called them and they said it going to be another 15 mins to deliver it. When they finally came to deliver the food after hour and half the items that we ordered from the catering menu wasn't the items that we got so they messed up the whole ordered and didn't even informed us. We ordered veg kabab they delivered us corn kachori without any chutneys so we asked for chutneys so the owner tell us we don't serve chutneys with kachori .... like really... how long are they in this business for? Not only that he hands us small tray of panner tikka and dal tadka and tells us that he added 7 people panner tikka and dal tadka in that same tray which was for 25 people. When I showed him his text and confirmation on the things we ordered his response was "okay so do you want the food or should I take it back?" .....The audacity the owner had (Neil) I had never tried their food before and just went through the connection and the trust but I don't think whoever was at the party will ever order from them again. SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT

Amy A.

Yelp
It was a good place with good service. Ordered pani puri, raj kachori, Naan pizza, pav bhaji, hakka noodles, chole bhature ,paneer kathi role And mohanthal. Everything was great except pizza. Would definitely go back.

Sar P.

Yelp
Its a good business model to sell out by groupon Now onto the food Malai Kofta - 4/5 was flavorful Paneer makhni - 1/5 rubber paneer and canned tomato taste was overpowering and had a bad aftertaste Paratha was good - 4/5 Rotla - 4/5 I recommend it based on the food!! Be mindful of the following, their groupons expire very fast, they don't allow groupon for takeaway nor do they accept it in the weekend

Siia K.

Yelp
Really nice spot with fake rain in the back to give it actual chowpatty feel which was so cool! The food itself was good, just didn't appreciate the presentation. Service was ok, I'm just awed at the fake rain part, chill spot all n all! Recommended!

Sahil S.

Yelp
Perfect food! Chole Bhatura is really good. Also we have been here for masala tea. It's great!

Raeesa H.

Yelp
A friend took me here one night and we had the most amazing meal ever! We ordered: - Sev Puri - Pav Bhaji - Channa batura - Masala chai I have lived in India for 6 years and tried many Indian restaurants in the States and Canada and I must say that this restaurant has the best and authentic Indian food!

Aakash P.

Yelp
Good food, Try chole bhature! Given COVID they have opened backyard which is super cool and gives you Dhaba feeling

Komal B.

Yelp
If you like Indian street food, this is the place to go. Their cheese pav bhaji is AMAZING! 100% recommended. Also, their mango lassi tastes very authentic!

App T.

Yelp
Chowpatty is recently renovated with pleasant and relaxing seating. I loved the brightly painted murals which articulate glimpses of India. I ordered pani puri, papdi chaat and pav bhaji. Pani Puri is consists of a puri - a fried crisp which is round and hollow. It comes with a mixture of tangy, savory spicy water (also known as pani) and other fillings like potato, chickpeas and sweet tamarind chutney. Taste of pani puri served here is alright - it doesn't come close to what I have had in India. Papri chaat which is a traditional street food prepared using a flat puri called papdi which is a crisp fried dough, along with a well-balanced combination of chickpeas, boiled potatoes, yogurt, and tamarind chutney. It is topped with cumin powder and chaat masala. I think this is the best dish in this place. Creaminess, spiciness and crunchy texture can be enjoyable in every bite. Pav bhaji is one of the most popular street foods that originated from Mumbai, India. The concept is very simple. It consists of Bhaji which a thick vegetable curry is consisting of potato, green pepper, and tomato mashed together with different spices on a flat griddle and served hot with Pav a soft bread similar to a dinner roll. The Pav is toasted on the griddle with lots of butter. I liked the taste of bhaji, but it was a little bit bland. Not spicy enough. Pav also was not soft. In India, Amul butter is a key ingredient in pav bhaji. But here I didn't taste any butter. I didn't enjoy the pav bhaji. One of my tips is to check for a Groupon deal. They usually have a deal with certain restrictions like not valid during the weekend etc. Overall review of this place: Food Taste: 6 out of 10 Ambiance: 7 out of 10 Service: 9 out of 10 Overall Rating: 7 out of 10 Comment: Lot of vegetarian options from chats, southern India food like Dosa, curries, Paratha

Dan S.

Yelp
Extremely clean, ambience is appealing and well maintained! This is high class even beyond covid standards. We were able to get in when it was empty and indoor dining had just opened up. But I can imagine how packed it will be once everyone has the vaccine . The gentleman with the tight haircut (young man) was extremely hospitable.

Steve S.

Yelp
Our most recent trip to Edison wound up here so my wife could get her dosa fix. The dosa is quite good, as good as any I've had in the states. I enjoyed the Samosa Chaat with the samosa being perfect in its consistency. I thought it was slightly expensive for what you get in the end but that's not uncommon with these restaurants. Taste-wise, absolutely no complaints.

Monica W.

Yelp
My sister and brother in law have been coming here for years. I always passed because it's strictly vegetarian, and I like a variety, but once I heard that Chowpatty was one of the ONLY places in New Jersey that my sister's mother in law will actually eat rather than cook herself (as she is from West Bengal), I said- LET'S GO! Chowpatty Foods is a hole in the wall, Gujarati owned, small Indian and vegetarian restaurant. It was recently renovated (as of this year I believe) and even though it's still on the small side and isn't fancy dining by any means, it's a cute place to grab a variety of excellent, authentic, Indian food at decent price with fabulous service. The menu here is HUGE and offers quite a variety, from Gujarati, Punjabi, and South Indian dishes, from snacks, chats, sandwiches, to mini meals, "village specials," and even a kids menu. Since it was my first time, I ordered the village special, Gujarati style, because I really enjoy Bhinda (Okra) as well as and KICHIDI (mixed rice). The village special includes (and depends on what style you chose) - a choice of bajri (millet) or corn rotla (bread), one vegetable, dal/kadhi, rice/kichidi, some sweets, all served in a round, circular platter. The presentation of the food is equal to the taste- amazing! My brother in law's "go to" mini meals here are Dosa and Chole Bhature. the Dosa (in my photos the Dosa looks like "swiss cheese bread" with potatoes and the Chole Bhature is the chickpea mixture with the big bread that is all PUFFED up and then POPs when you stick your finger in it). hahah! So So So good! Prepare to wait a bit here. I'd say about 20 minutes on average. Why? The food is FRESH and HOT and they start cooking for you the minute you order. The service here is incredible. When we walked in, my brother in law asked for Kishan, one of the waiters. He greeted us warmly, made a few jokes, and remembered what my sister and brother in law's orders were from 6 months ago. That said, not only is the food here consistent in it's taste, but I highly doubt your order will get mixed up if you are in Kishan's hands. Or any other employee for that matter. Chowpatty takes pride in serving good food, satisfying customers, sharing their culture, and they listen to their customers. If you have any questions about the menu, don't feel shy. ASK! The ambiance is very relaxed and pleasant. Since it was newly renovated, it has high ceilings with twinkly lights, and a good number of tables and chairs. They have big windows and the sun shines in and lights up the beautifully painted murals of Mumbai on the walls. There is even a small image of chow patty as a snack stand in India... so take a close look at the mural when you walk in! :) ChowPatty is clean, spacious, and inviting. This is by no means a "fancy place" but the food is authentic, the service is excellent, and it's comfortable. Feel free to eat with your hands.... it is an Indian restaurant and the food is THAT GOOD! No worries if you prefer utensils, they provide you with them. Not sure if you will want to use them though!!! "Have you had a meal today?".... in a world where some people get by only on rice and ghee for carbs and protein on a daily basis, I feel incredibly lucky to have had the pleasure to enjoy a fantastic, tasty, and filling meal at ChowPatty. That said, if you are looking for authentic VEGETARIAN Indian food, you must try ChowPatty.

Yelp
Food was ok. Nothing was great and yummy. Lots of option tho but flavor wise they lacka but Decor was amazing overall experience was 3/5. 5/5 Fries were good, Gujarati thali was 3/5, Falafel wrap 2/5 ( had burnt taste), Falooda 4/5 . It's good restaurant to go grab a snack maybe

Radhica S.

Yelp
Went to this restaurant for the first time with my family. The restaurant was recommended by one of the local retail salespersons, and I'm so glad she did recommend it because the food was delicious and authentic! When first entering the venue, it's not much to look at, but don't let that fool you. This place is a hidden gem! Seats are cafeteria style, and workers were sitting in the corner packaging pani puris by the box load. The venue was clean and the server was friendly and helpful with picking dishes off the menu. The server brought us a large pitcher of iced water and was prompt when called on. There is Indian music playing in the background to help add to the atmosphere. All of the dishes on the menu are vegetarian and there are a decent variety of appetizers as well. Multiple types of dosa, curries and refreshing drinks such as lassi are also available. There are no alcoholic beverages available on the menu. We ordered pani puris and masala dosas as an appetizer and they were delicious! The pani puris were light and crispy and very fresh. We liked them so much we purchased a 2oz container to take home, which were available for sale for $4.99. The masala dosas were thin, crispy, and made perfectly. The coconut and tamarind chutneys were flavorful and the coconut chutney was made with fresh grated coconut. The sambar was very savory. We also ordered a samosa chaat which was spicy, sweet and tart. We ordered a chick pea curry and Malawi kofta for our main course and loved it. The food was steaming hot when served. The chole curry was served with two large steaming bhaturas that were crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy in the inside. They take pride in their business and it shows by the way we were serviced. I would definitely return to this restaurant again!

Yelp
Excellent food and service! Have been getting khan an and various snacks from their shop for a few years and didn't realize they had a restaurant, good and innovative Gujarati fusion food and great service!

Yelp
LOVED IT! Best indian vegetarian restaurant in NJ. Vada Pav sandwiches are the best and the samosas as well. They have a lot to offer as well and have an amazing space. I go there a lot with my family and they all loved it. Several times I have seen them cater there food for events such as weddings & receptions. Love the place as well as the sweets!

Yelp
Love chowpathy thalis. Amazing taste. Punjabi thalis are too good . Gujju side dishes are also ok. Rotli shaak is also very good. Do not order any South Indian food. It's not good , understanding it's a North Indian restaurant. Lassi is good. Overall a very good experience :)

Yelp
Friendly and professional staff serve up a wide variety of flavorful and interesting vegetarian Indian food. I always go for one of the two thalis or the village special - it's a ton of food and it's absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend this place, I've ordered close to 10 times and I haven't had a single experience that was less than 5-star.

Yelp
The review is more for service. I get it, they are short staffed but just tell upfront you don't have several things on the menu. We waited for almost 40 min after ordering and checking in with them multiple times that a basic item like chhola bhatura isn't coming because "machine is broken". No apologies, nothing. Next time, we go for kulfi (decided to give another try giving benefit of doubt due to challenges in the service industry at this time). Exactly the same issue. First - 1/2 the items on dessert menu aren't available. Then they take the order and tell after 10 min they don't have what we ordered. Come on... I can tell their food is probably good and they were quite busy with people eating chaat etc. but they really need to respect their customers time.

Yelp
I love visiting Chowpatty every time I am near Edison! Their chaat items, baigan bhartha, and chole batura are excellent and some of my favorites. I've always had a fantastic experience here - with delicious, flavorful food and great service! I wish I could take Chowpatty back home with me :)

Yelp
Every time my family and I are in New Jersey we stop by here. It's always been a favorite! It's been awhile since we've visited and this time around I noticed they had redone the paintings on the walls and added new decorations. The food was delicious especially the corn kachori, dabeli and the fries that come with the burger to name a few. Overall there's a bunch of options to choose from and a kids menu as well. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming as well. I highly recommend stopping by to try out the food as it has remained consistent in quality and taste over the years.
