Employees were so nice here! We got the spicy tuna pokè bowl, the huli huli chicken plate, and spam musubi. The food was good, but not great. I definitely have had better pokè in san diego and the rice a little dry. Mac salad was good!

My husband and I love coming to this Hawaiian spot! Super fresh ingredients and portion sizes are huge. We either share or we will take food home for left overs! The Huli Huli chicken plate is super flavorful and has the perfect crisp. It also comes with 2 scoops of rice and a side (we got the Mac salad). We have gotten the pork before which is also amazing but after coming so many times the chicken is our staple! We got the spam musubi which is omggggg to die for! I could have had 4 more of those yesterday. The staff is always super helpful! There is outdoor seating, which we have never had a problem grabbing. It can definitely get crowded so even if there aren’t any spots by the time the food comes out something usually opens up. Free water is available too! Still dreaming of the Mac salad and spam musubi which is also super fresh!!!

Google
The huli huli chicken was really yummy. It was perfectly cooked and not dry, and the sauce on it tastes similar to what you’d expect while still being unique. The Kalua pork was fine. It had good flavor and some pieces were pretty moist, but some others were dry. The slaw was good, though I generally prefer less creamy slaws, but that’s just my preference. Staff was nice and the food came out fairly quickly. We ate outside and everything was clean and tidy.

Tried this spot for the first time since we were visiting Sea World San Diego and we wanted some Hawaiian food to eat afterwards. Being from Oahu, I see “Huli Huli chicken” and my thoughts immediately go back to being a kid and my dad stopping at an abandoned parking lot in Nanakuli to buy some huli huli chicken from a man roasting and selling chicken leg quarters in clear plastic bags where you can see the steam and juices from the marinade and the bags are nice and hot to the touch. And that is the flavor and chicken my dad and I expected when we ordered the “Huli Huli chicken” from the menu. When we opened our plates, what we saw were sliced chicken pieces with a sauce poured over it. When we tasted it, both my dad and I said “that’s not huli huli chicken, it’s barbecue chicken.” If you’re from Hawaii (not sure if the other islands make em the same from where I grew up on Oahu) don’t expect it to taste like that type of huli huli chicken I described above. It didn’t taste bad, it just didn’t taste like the one’s we’re used to. Other than that, I appreciate the rice portions because lots of other hawaiian plate lunch franchises in California don’t give enough rice (poly problems lol), although I would still prefer the protein ratio to match cause then I had a lot of rice left over 🤷🏽‍♀️. The food satisfied my Hawaiian food cravings minus the nostalgic taste of the chicken I was looking forward to which is why I give this plate lunch a 3/5. Not bad but not memorable for me either.

Google
I am very impressed by this totally hole in the wall unassuming restaurant! Their huli-huli chicken is so damn good, the spam musubi is also fire. Also tried the kahlua pork, which was just ok in comparison with the other dishes. Pineapple pico and salsas were great also. We’re definitely glad we stumbled upon it. I’ll try the poke next time! There’s no indoor seating, but there’s plenty of outdoor seating. Service is register only. There’s almost no people eating here so it’s a nice quiet place to lunch. A lot of people order their food to go.

Google
Amazing Hawaiian food! It is even tastier than the one I got in Hawaii. Loved BBQ guava pork - super tender pulled pork with pineapple and rice. Poke bowl was amazing as well - fresh tuna and avocado, simple but delicious. The dessert, coconut custard, was a unique and out of this world experience. Definitely recommend 💕💕💕!!!

Google
Always consistent with the flavor and portion. My baby loves the rice and Huli huli sauce, he calls it “the good sauce” if yall ever sell it in a bottle, you have your first customer here 😂😂

Google
What happened to Ono Grinds?! New mgmt? Or staff? We love this place but the past four orders our poke bowls have sadly been sub par. No more macadamia nuts. The cucumbers aren’t chopped up anymore. Avocado just dumped whole on top. It use to be this beautiful thing all drizzled with poke and goodness to perfection. Now….. the pizazz is gone. we might need to find a new poke bowl spot.

Yelp
It was my first time coming here and it was delicious! The place is small, there is no seating inside but they do have plenty of tables and chairs for you to sit outside. The food was great and tasty! The portion of food that they give you is a lot and plenty to share. So if you wanted to try more then one thing I recommend getting different items and you can share. I also got the spam musubi and it always hits! The service was great, the employees were nice and helpful. They do get busy just prepare to wait a bit but it's worth it.

Yelp
The food here is AMAZING!! I've had them before many times and last night I ordered catering for a party. EVERYONE asked me where the food came from and how they can't wait to have Ono Grinds again. Catering was super easy and I heard back with a price fast. Thank you!!

Yelp
Parking is kind of difficult but on Sundays it was free in places that were close. Outdoor seating and there's a sign on the table that says you can ask for a fly fan or umbrella. They're a bit near each other. You order inside at a counter and the menu was pretty big to read. Plastic forks, spoons, knives, and wooden chopsticks available. Small containers of sriracha and little baggies of soy sauce too. Loved the huli huli chicken! It was a little sweet and had good flavor. The sweet potato medallions were soo good. Macaroni salad on the light mayo side. The pork was not dry and a little smoky.

Yelp
Ordered their Huli Huli Chicken (grilled tender thigh meat marinated in Hawaiian-style teriyaki sauce) w/ Mac salad & rice. Order came out fresh, delicious, and a generous helping. Rice was cooked perfect, macaroni elbow pasta just right. Lunch crowd wasn't overwhelming. Service was good, they take credit cards and Apple/Android Pay. Outside tables were clean. The Huli Huli chicken thigh pieces were well marinated, and their Hawaiian sauce was tasty. The negatives was the lack of available street parking nearby, and the biggest one, lack of variety of available drinks (Coke, a Hawaiian canned drink, and bottled water), and lastly, their prices. My Huli Huli Chicken entree was $16.50!!! Yikes!!! When you add a tip, you'd have nothing left to buy a drink. Costs are so high to eat out, you can't even get much for $20 these days. I'd eat here again, but I wouldn't be able to eat here as often as I might like to due to the cost of dining here.

Yelp
First time trying this place, my expectations were pretty high after reading a lot of the reviews. I was kind of sad that didn't have chicken Katsu or Kalbi ribs. But we tried some combo plates. I tried the char siu and shoyu chicken. It was big pieces of meat, the char siu could have used a little more sauce to it. The shoyu chicken was pretty good. We also tried to Teri steak which was pretty good but nothing spectacular. Seating is only 3-4 tables outside on sidewalk, good for takeout. Street parking only.

Yelp
The best part about getting my nails done is it's next door to Chris ono grinds and it's a great excuse to try everything on the menu. I can never resist getting spam musubi which is great it's 2 for $6. I tried the Jalapeño cilantro pork bowl with the fried egg. Everything was cooked perfect. I always add nori and hot sauce. I love I can just all the local juices. The place is small with only the few out doors tables so either get in early or take it to go. The menu seems to change and some of my favorites are no longer on the menu. Whenever I miss local food this is just up the road and hits all my cravings!

Yelp
What a spot! It doesn't look like much but the food here hits. It's a small spot with like three tables outside, seems like more of a takeout spot. I got these. Combo Plate (Kalua Pork and Hula Hula Chicken - The hula hula chicken is to die for! Flavors were so on point and great texture. I would just get a plate of that. The Kalua pork was good too but didn't feel it was that special. Combo plate is good to try multiple items. (4.5/5) Guava Bbq Pork Bacon Bowl - What an interesting mix. It's heavy on the sauce and a whole layer of rice but it was so good. There a lot going on and it's hard to explain but it was delicious. I would get this again. (4/5) This is definitely the spot to get Hawaiian food in San Diego. Big portions for reasonable prices. Delicious. Parking - Just on the nearby streets. Free but met have to walk further if you can't find one nearby. Make sure to read the signs there is SD PD rolling around giving tickets.

Yelp
I haven't had a lot of Hawaiian barbecue before so was excited to try Chris Ono. The storefront is pretty small with no seating inside. They have a few tables outside. My only issue was the outdoor seating was covered in flies. I'm not sure if it's the building or if it's because the outdoor trash cans were uncovered. Next time I'd enjoy my food better to go. I got the huli huli chicken. The portion was huge! It came with a ton of chicken, rice, and I got the sweet potato slices. I wasn't able to finish my food so I took it home. Although I technically dined in, they packaged up my order in to go container. I also got a mint pineapple ice tea. It was just okay. I was expecting it to be minty but it mostly tasted like pineapple juice. If i were to go back, I'd order the same thing again food again, but probably skip the tea.

Yelp
Dear owners, I wanted to let you know that at the North Park Location on Saturday night the phones were not working and the online ordering was "not available". I have been coming here for over 8 years and as parking has become impossible, on-line or phone in is our connection. It was frustrating to drive by and see no line, I circled 3 times to find parking, almost gave up but risked it parking illegally. Your food is worth the risk, and I would rather not risk it, so I wanted to let you know.

Yelp
We got the Huli Huli chicken plate with sweet potato medallions and the kalua pork plate with coleslaw, and added a side of mac salad. The food is on the salty side, but because they give you two big scoops of rice to go with your meal, it balances out. The sauce on the Huli Huli chicken is so good. I love the sweet potato medallions as a side. Mac salad was good too, and I got to try the spam musubi this time which is a classic. But the best thing of all is the customer service. Angel was super friendly!

Yelp
Great vibes and cute location to eat at. Went at night so had no problems getting a table to eat at outside. The chicken and kalua pork are so tasty, but I've definitely had better mac salad. Overall, would recommend for some no frills, tasty Hawaiian food!

J R.

Yelp
Tried their webbing fare and being a foodie, I was not disappointed at all! I love the chicken, and their technique is above and beyond the competition. I adore the friendliness, you all made my night! Thank you!!!
google avatar

Yelp
If you're trying to figure out what plate to get- look no further it's the huli huli chicken. We got a combo plate with huli huli chicken and kalua pork. The kalua pork was tender but not very flavorful ESPECIALLY when next to the huli huli chicken. The chicken has a sweetness and smokiness that is unmatched. Perfectly cooked and sauced. Mac salad was good too The other plate was the volcano bowl with teriyaki chicken. This was really good too! Chicken was flavorful and tender- perfectly cooked to me and I can be picky. Great flavors mixed in and I liked the thick shredded cheese on top. The only reason I wouldn't get it again is bc of how good the huli huli chicken plate is They had a lot of drink options I plan on trying next time! Service was friendly and fast. There's a seating area outside, but I think this is a good place to call in and pick up from. Parking can be a pain in this area so grab and go is a good option!
google avatar

Danielle M.

Yelp
The volcano bowl is so good! It has teriyaki chicken, pineapple, and jalapeno with a spicy sauce over rice. I also love that Mac salad. The service is friendly and they have outside tables if you want to dine there. You can also take your food to nearby Fall brewery or Poor house.

Julian D.

Yelp
It's really good. my girlfriend got the huli huli chicken which is definitely something I like more, more complex flavors. Shoyu chicken is really good too though. sweet.

Yelp
For $16.99, I specifically ordered Huli Huli Chicken with the sides of macaroni salad and potato salad....I was sourly disappointed to open my to-go box when I got home to find the small portion of meat. I feel like my box is just full of sides at this point. My order did not come with potato salad I had requested, so that added to the disappointment. The food tastes good, it's just not what I asked for. Parking is horrendous in the area, otherwise I would have driven back and requested the correct order. **Correction: it was the potato side that I ordered, as there is no potato salad as an option. In response to the business owner, thank you for the well wishes. As I am fully certain that my life will have amounted to more than a Yelp review when it comes to its end, I feel well within my rights to express my genuine experience at an establishment, as that was what this platform was intended for. Everyone has their own standards--I personally consider a 1 star review to reflect a bad experience. Calling this a 5 star experience would be an insult to all other establishments which I've given 5 star reviews to where I had exceptional experiences. While others on this platform could easily leave a 1 star review simply because they didn't like the paint color choices of an interior, I provided what I personally found to be pros and cons. Well wishes right back to you, genuinely.

Yelp
You're not going to find a lot of Hawaiian food outside of Hawaii so it's awesome to see a place like Chris' Ono serving up some classic grinds. This location is very small with only a few tables outside to eat, so expect to grab your food and take it to-go. I got the combo plate and got half Huli Huli Chicken and Teri Steak + Mac Salad as my side. The mac salad was very creamy and had good flavor. Both the steak and chicken were very tender and moist, not dry at all! It probably helps also that they are smothered in their respective sauces which were very delicious. However I am someone who likes more sauce then less, so for some people it might be a bit much/salty. We also got the Kalua Pork w/additional sides of Sweet Potato Medallions and a side of guava bbq sauce. The pork tasted good however it was a bit too dry. But this is where we recommend getting the additional bbq sauce on the side since this helps to "hydrate" the meat and give it a better moist bite. The sweet potato medallions were also really good! Very tender and the flavor was slightly more potato than sweet potato. There was a small hint of sweetness so I think both sweet potato/potato lovers will enjoy this. Lastly I do wish the portion sizes were a bit bigger. I think of Hawaiian plate lunches as these massive piles of food but here it's definitely more modest in size. I think they could add a couple more pieces of meat on each order but overall I think it's still worth checking out.

Yelp
Really good Huli huli chicken, macaroni salad, poke bowls. We like to get takeout from here.
google avatar

Sharon L.

Yelp
Very cute little restaurant with island decor. The staff was extremely friendly and I appreciated their prompt service as well. The seating is outdoors and hence dog friendly. The kalua pork plate was pretty good. I think the portions are bigger than Home style Hawaiian because they give you 2 scoops of rice in addition to Mac salad. I think the kalua pork was pretty comparable. The chasiu tasted a little weird and VERY sweet, probably won't order that again. The spam musubi was not good (maybe because we ordered ~1 hour before closing?) The rice was super dry and stiff, like if cooked rice was sitting in the fridge without being in a Tupperware.
google avatar

Ethina S.

Yelp
The poke bowl (regular and spicy) is my go to order every time I eat here! It's a big serving for the average price of poke in SD. I also like to add some spam musubi and mac salad if I'm really hungry, but I always find myself full and taking leftovers home just off a poke bowl. They have a unique taste that is savory and refreshing. I must say the inside is a bit cramped since you're just supposed to order and wait outside (they'll give you a pager). There is also limited street parking nearby so you may have to walk a bit for a spot and it's on 30th which is a pretty street so keep an eye out for pedestrians, bikers, etc. There's limited seats outside to eat so I would 100% just take your order to go!

Gonz G.

Yelp
I enjoy visiting this place, but during our recent visit, we noticed some changes. The food portions seem to have become smaller, with a heavy emphasis on sides, particularly rice. The meal consisted of two large spoonfuls of rice and small portions of chicken and macaroni salad. Additionally, they were out of lemonade, and the tamarind mint drink tasted like water with a hint of mint, lacking in flavor. In the past, the portions were more generous, which was one of the reasons we enjoyed coming here. To be fair, the parking issues here is not the fault of the establishment. I understand that parking can be difficult in North Park, as it is in many places in the area. Overall, the food is delicious and the servers are friendly. However, I believe they could improve by adjusting their portion sizes or informing customers in advance so they can choose additional sides to avoid having their plates filled mostly with rice.

Yelp
this place was amazing!! we had walked past a few times and decided to try it, SO GOOD! there were so many to go orders that it took a bit for our food to come out, but they gave us extra masubis and hawaiian sun which was awesome and so nice/unexpected. the meat was delicious, we both got combo plates and the pork and different kinds of chicken were delicious. spam masubi was also 12/10, we can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Shahrazad C.

Yelp
Ordered from here a couple months ago on a Sunday night. I paid $17 for a poke bowl that, at best, had 10 pieces of fish and maybe a handful of greens in it. My husband ordered the Huli Huli chicken plate, which was amazing, but portions were so tiny for the price point. Maybe I came here on an off night. On the hunt for a different Hawaiian spot in the mean time.
google avatar

Derek B.

Yelp
Nice little neighborhood gem. The Huli Huli chicken was great! The char sui chicken was good and something i haven't seen on a menu before. All the chicken was tender and flavorful. You got the Mac salad down right too. The kids liked the spam musubi. Theres limited seating outside for about 15 people max. Also no restroom available there.
google avatar

Brianne C.

Yelp
I don't know how I haven't reviewed Chris Ono yet! I have had them as my go to for Hawaiian food since I moved to north park five years ago. I have tried so many things and everything is amazing. This visit I went with my go to meal. Kalua pork with sweet potato medallions, rice, and a side of guava barbecue sauce for the pork. With a side of coleslaw. It never lets me down! The potatoes are so thick and I really love the heartiness of them. I love rice, especially the bottom portion that has soaked up some juice from the meat. The pork is so tender and with the sauce on top it is wonderful. Coleslaw is a nice fresh crunch on the side. Everything here is good and you can't go wrong with whatever you order.
google avatar

Duke K.

Yelp
Great food, with a slight variance from the Liberty Station restaurant. Order ahead if possible, parking is rough in the area.
google avatar

Salina X.

Yelp
Finding parking in this neighborhood isn't exactly the easiest. Neither is finding a table to sit and eat at. You go inside and order at the counter. Then if you're lucky, you can snag a table outside. There's seating on the sidewalk enough for about 10 people. I noticed a lot of ppl got to go. The staff isn't very friendly either. They just kinda look at you. As for food, I got the combo plate with kalua pork and huli huli chicken. I got spam musubi as well. Skip out on the kalua pork. It's dry with no flavor. The huli huli chicken was great though, as was the Mac salad. No complaints about the spam musubi either. It also comes with two musubi's in one order.
google avatar

Allyson R.

Yelp
Paid by card. Chris' Ono Grinds is located on the street and offers some street parking, but I had to circle around a few times to find parking due to the limited spaces and construction. I went in on a Saturday afternoon and was lucky a family was leaving their table since there are only a few tables available to sit at outside. No inside dining available. The surrounding area doesn't look the best either so I was happy to find street parking close to the place. I got the combo with chicken, pork, and mac salad. VERY salty, saucy chicken and pork, and TONS of mayo in the mac salad so it just tasted like mayo and not much else. I was pretty starving when I got here and scarfed the food down, but overall didn't think it was great Hawaiian food. Most likely won't go back to this place but try it if you're in the area and want Hawaiian food.
google avatar

Mauri W.

Yelp
Update: Owner reached out, apologized, and offered to make it right. This is how outstanding business owners do business. I will be back. It had been awhile since we had Ono Grinds so we decided to give it another go. I placed in order for pickup. Parking is sparse and tricky. I asked for extra sauce for my poke bowl as I had read the dish could be short on sauce. Staff was joking around and having fun which I thought was a sign of a positive work environment. I guess the joke was on me. When I arrived home not only did my dish not have extra sauce, it was without sauce. I called. Staff was still laughing and joking. Not appropriate. They asked me to drive back so they could fix it. I had no desire to drive back and look for parking to correct their mistake. I asked them to discount my meal. They said they would but it never happened. Total disappointment.
google avatar

Kevin N.

Yelp
Meat to rice&mac salad ratio is pretty sad. Portion of meat for $18 is kind of outrageous. I still had half my Mac salad a full scoop of rice by the time I was finished with the chicken.
google avatar

Yelp
Overall: 'Twas a rainy day in San Diego so the ambience wasn't as nice, but the food was pretty good!! Food: Huli Huli Chicken: Moist and flavorful Kailua Pork: Bit saltier than I like but it goes great with the rice Mac Salad: Creamy but flavors aren't overwhelming, goes great with the meat. Hisbicus drink: Floral-y and a little sour (it was good) Pineapple Mint drink: Tastes like pineapple Hisbusicus + Pineapple: The pineapple is pretty overwhelming Ambience/Location: Its on the outskirts of Adam;s Avenue so a little easier to find parking. There are also 4 tables outside to sit as well. Price: $21 for Kailua pork plate and a drink. It's ok, considering the location.
google avatar

Yelp
Today, we were in San Diego. We decided to try Chris' Ono. This restaurant has no inside seating, but they do have a few outside picnic tables. The me u isn't extensive, but it does tasty options. The service a little slow but they are friendly. 2 of us had the Teri Steak, and one had the Spicy Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl. The Teri steak was very flavorful but tough. The macaroni salad was delicious. It does come with 2 scoops of rice. The Spicy ahi tuna was delicious and wasn't really that spicy. Overall, the food was delicious. The beef was slightly tough, but it wasn't a deal breaker. The 3 meals ran us 60 bucks, which is a little pricey. If you are in the area, definitely consider eating here.
google avatar

Jessica Y.

Yelp
Excellent quality of food, the meat was very flavorful and not overly sweet like some hawaiian places on the mainland. Their haupia also had a very natural coconut flavor.
google avatar

R P.

Yelp
Pork was a tad dry. Good flavor, but dry. Rice and mac salad was on point. Spam musubi had the thinnest slice of spam I've ever seen! But still tasty.
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
This place is delicious! I ordered online and the food was ready within 10 mins! Their sweet potato side option is delicious and the Huli Huli Chicken was sooo good! Mac salad was good as well!
google avatar

Victoria K.

Yelp
This place is off the beaten path and certainly a local joint! We were in San Diego for a work trip and had a rental car, so we drove there! One thing I will say is parking is nearly non existent so plan to drive around and find street parking a few blocks up! Prices were super reasonable. Food flavors were phenomenal. Service was excellent! It's more of a takeout style or you can sit and eat on the front porch at a few tables. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Vincent B.

Yelp
The food was absolutely delicious, customer service was also great the only lousy part was the parking.
google avatar

Karen Ann B.

Yelp
Daughter wanted Hawaiian food and I didn't want to check out the big chains, and so happy we found this place! Generous portions and we had eaten 1/2 before I realized we didn't take pictures. 2 orders was more than enough for the 4 people in our group. Just wished that there was more seating
google avatar

Krystyna L.

Yelp
The menu provides a great selection of Hawaiian offerings from huli huli chicken to poke, in bowl, plate or salad form. I was able to get the poke tuna on the salad which was delicious. They have a dog friendly patio with four tables with four chairs outside, there is no indoor seating. The team is super friendly, flexible and knowledgeable.

Luis C.

Yelp
Gross, rice tastes like chalk. And chicken chewy and barely cooked enough. Maybe another day would be better good luck.
google avatar

Isabel B.

Yelp
One of the best Hawaiian spots I've ever visited period! The Kahlua pork was delicious, macaroni salad sublime and fried chicken was absolutely delicious. Definitely on my spots to visit again and also a must try for anyone local in the area. You can't miss it!! Service was amazing and portions were generous too! The vibes are beautiful, I wish I lived closer so I could come whenever I want.

Yelp
Yo, first things first, I gotta give mad respect to Chris Ono Grinds. I got the Huli Huli chicken and that sh!t was fire. Two spam masubis to fulfill my desires, hands on my belly got me sittin on the couch tired. Flavor to the max sauced up in the white rice, macaroni salad mixed into each damn bite. Eyes getting heavy man it's time to say night night.

Yelp
Came here yesterday for lunch with my family. We love Hawaiian food and we're craving something to hold us over until our next visit to Oahu. I'm so glad we came here because we definitely felt the island vibes. Everyone is very laid back and chill and super helpful. They don't have a lot of parking but we drove around and found a spot nearby. My party of 5 found a nice table with shade right out front. No let me tell y'all though! We each ordered an entree and whoa! These are so big portions. (Not complaining). I'm a big mama with a big appetite and I can eat ALOT but I tapped out half way through my meal and saved the rest for dinner. SO yummy even a few hours later and straight out of the fridge. They've got haupia, they've got an assortment of delicious drinks! The food is banging. Only thing missing is a bathroom. Then it would be perfection. But luckily the people at the brewery next door are super sweet so I was able to go use their restroom. Next time I'll be taking my food to go and either enjoying at home or having a beach picnic. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I remember ordering from them years ago and liking the huli huli chicken plate. Decided to try them out again and got the combo plate of the same thing and the char siu pork and also the spicy ahi poke plate. Combo plate - the star of this was the huli huli chicken though I'd have to say, it's drenched it too much sauce. The char siu pork is nothing special. Macaroni salad is actually more flavorful than competing spots! Spicy ahi poke - too much unnecessary garnish like the jalapeños and tasted a bit modernized than traditional. Also could use more flavors. Each plate was around $15. 2/5 stars, unfortunately.

Yelp
We were in town looking for some good Hawaiian food and found this one on yelp. We ordered the Huli huli chicken which was unfortunately, not that great. It was unfortunately really sweet and the overall flavor was just pretty bland. We were pretty disappointed but the service was really nice!!

Yelp
Huli chicken was so good and flavorful, really enjoyed my food and even had leftovers. The restaurant was super cute and chill vibe a little small but we ate outside. There is seating inside and outside. Had to wait a little bit but not to long especially since the food was nice and hot !!

Yelp
We always grab a bowl/plate from here when we're headed to Gaslamp/SD from Orange County. We're usually ordering before 12pm so can't order using their website but it's easy enough to call in and place orders. Our orders usually take 15-20 minutes which is about the time it takes to drive on over so no issues there. Parking is extremely hard to find in this area whenever we come during lunchtime so my husband usually drops me off, drives around the block and picks me back up after I grab our food. Recently, we wanted to try to El Chicharron (on their online menu but not available as an option when you order online) but it was not available via phone order either so went with our usual: Volcano Bowl - Spicy teriyaki chicken with pineapple salsa, shredded cheddar, sliced jalapenos, ginger-garlic aioli and lava sauce over rice. Guava BBQ Pork Bacon Bowl - Kalua Pork, bacon, pineapple salsa and shredded cheese topped with our guava bbq sauce and ginger-garlic aioli. The portions are generous in my opinion and we could probably split a bowl (especially now that everything is so expensive- understandably). The food is so good and flavorful, which keeps us coming back!

Yelp
This is a go-to for our family. Online ordering is super easy. I've tried mostly everything on the menu but man... that Veggie stir fry plate with lava sauce. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. It SLAPS. The spicy poke bowl and their Mac salad are also great. Big servings, we usually have leftovers for the next day. Service is good, the only thing I've noticed on take out orders is they usually leave something out so just check your bag before you get too far. The building is tiny with some tables outside. We've never eaten there though so it doesn't bother me. Love you Ono Grinds!

Yelp
first of all, the food was delicious, no complaints. we ordered the combo plate with teriyaki steak and huli chicken with sweet potato and rice, a side order of mac salad, and order of musubi. the huli chicken has some great flavor, the beef was tender and had a twist of teriyaki flavoring, they both were yummy enough to order again next time. now, let me tell you about the sweet potatoes..........yes. so soft and sweet and perfect. i wish i could make mine taste this good!!! the mac salad was just like i was in Hawaii, as well as the spam musubi. the food took about 15-20 mins to come out so im assuming its made to order. we ate outside and enjoyed our time eating after a wonderful day at the zoo. we will be back! thanks!
