14 Fantastic Places for Pierogies In NYC | Eater NY

"This welcoming place resembles a compact, brick-lined diner, and it serves up top-notch takes on a mostly traditional menu of Polish fare. The pierogi are excellent, whether golden and crisply fried or steamed; opt for the latter to really taste the peppery potato and not-too-dense meat fillings. Beyond pierogies, try the stuffed cabbage, filled with a surprisingly delicate mix of pork and rice. All of the entrees come with the choice of two sides, like kasha and fried cabbage." - Alexandra Ilyashov

I wanted to love this place, it’s such a beautiful restaurant. ☹️ We ordered our starters, they were great! I didn’t like how my mozzarella sticks were garnished, because I have many allergies. For my entree - I ordered a cheese pizza, it looked great! But it had a very weird smell of plants, leaves… literally made me think it was a plant based cheese or something! 😅 I read another review that said the same about the weird smell. 😆 Wanted to love it, but won’t come back!

Google
We recently held a bridal shower for my niece at Christina's. It was absolutely beautiful!! The food was delicious! The service was top notch and Kerry and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful!! I would definitely recommend Christina's for any celebration to anyone!! Five stars!!

Google
Christina's never disappoints. We have always had very good meals there. My wife's go-to dish is the coconut chicken. They always have great specials...I enjoyed a ribeye topped with lobster meat...very good. Not a huge menu, but everything on it is delicious and professionally prepared! We really have never had a bad meal there, and with the friendly experienced staff, we will be back.

Google
Food is always deliciously fresh, portions very generous, adult beverages are super! Owner and entire staff are great, friendly and attentive. Their takeout business has increased tremendously over the last several months due to Covid. We have dined there several times recently since restaurants have reopened under the states strict guidelines, they run a very tight ship, very clean safe environment ,servers always masked and constantly sanitizing. Highly recommended!

Google
Christina’s is one of our favorites. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, the service is warm and friendly, and the food is excellent. You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu here and the Italian dishes are excellent.

Google
The Cosmos were great, the calamari appetizer was tasty but a bit over done, however the scallops entree knocked it out of the park!!!! They were cooked perfectly and served over their corn and lobster risotto which can also be ordered as a side. The asparagus were a perfect accompaniment. Yum!!! I can't wait to order that again. 😋🙂

Google
I ordered take out on Mother’s Day and my family and I were beyond impressed with our food. The service was great and hospitable. I was told my food would be ready by 6:15. I show up by that time and I didn’t have to wait at all while I went in and paid. Highly recommend the coconut chicken! YUM!

Google
We came as a family for mother’s day coming to a fancy and supposedly good restaurant. I ordered the Penne, Chicken and Broccoli and there was no dressing if had no flavor and they put the pasta water in it my bowl and it looked like VERY dirty bath water. Heads up, this was gross! The chicken was bland and the penne was undercooked and so was the broccoli it was like a rock and it was cold! We ordered more than this and it wasn’t that good, coming from my personal experience , this was horrible. No offense just being critical so they can learn i’ve come before and it hasn’t horrible but maybe don’t get the peens chicken and broccoli. Sorry! Oh and the ceiling was CRACKING OPEN!

Yelp
Our first time to this spot Very much a locals favorite. Good food, great service. Definitely worth a visit!!

Yelp
A friend and I dined at Christina's a few nights ago. I ordered the $48 ribeye special. I am always extremely specific with how I want my steak cooked, which is as raw as possible. Always. I also ordered mashed potatoes and butternut squash for my sides. My steak arrived medium well. Instead of the mashed, I received french fries. The butternut squash was not edible. The only thing on my plate that I ate, were the fries, so I was thankful that I did not send them back. When our waitress came to check on us, she looked at my steak and said that it was actually cooked medium. I explained to her that I had ordered it as rare as possible. She agreed that I had and then asked if I wanted to take my uneaten steak home. Umm no. My friend ordered the chicken parmigiana which was lacking both cheese and sauce. Since this is the second time that they have not cooked my steak as ordered, I will not be back to this establishment.

Yelp
Went here on a Saturday night for dinner. Went on the early side and was able to get seated quickly. Our service was great, we sat in the bar area and had a few people keeping an eye on us. It was mainly an older crowd, not a ton of families. We ordered the Apple something salad and that was good. Homemade dressing, fresh ingredients, and yummy. We ordered the coconut crusted chicken for the meal and it was over cooked. It looked overcooked/burned so we asked the waitress if this was normal and she said yes. Not a fan. The other chicken dish was pretty good. Overall, good service, food was fine.

Yelp
The food was delish.I had chicken Marsala and it was perfect.service was A+. Will definitely return.

Yelp
We hosted an important family lunch at Christina's and it was perfect! The owner met with us in advance and made us feel right at home. She gave wonderful recommendations and took care of absolutely everything. The space was set up and ready for us early. The food was absolutely delicious! The baked haddock was the best I've ever had and I had to take some chicken, broccoli ziti home with me. The owner was on site for the whole event and gave it her personal attention and touch the whole time. From beginning to end the whole event exceeded our expectations. Our family is so grateful to the owner, chef and the whole team at Christina's for such a special event. We can't wait to return for dinner!

Yelp
This was our first time dining here. We arrived at 4:00 when they opened and was seated promptly. The salad was fresh and large enough for 2 people to share. The butternut squash ravioli are delicious. The chicken piccata and scallops lobster corn risotto were also yummy. There is a bar in back we ate in restaurant. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
6/20/24, we are having a heat wave, there was no air condionting , they said it broke, they could of put fans out, the chicken was dry, I asked for more gravy the waitress said she would have to charge me for it, my husbands steak was the worst cut of meat and was rubbery. the vegtable melody was ice cold, left overs at best.People of a cettwn age would not notice these things, but we are not, also the place smells like an old sock. I would not come back or advise anyone go there.Revamp, renovate, and get a good chef.

J. E.

Yelp
While we have enjoyed a few good meals here in the past and the service at the bar (where we almost always sit) is always fantastic, I must state that every time we go here, there is an odd smell in this restaurant. I think that if it was given a thorough cleaning (bleach, etc) the smell might go away? Just a suggestion.... it is not a pleasant smell......... other than that, we have had pleasant experiences there.

Lauren P.

Yelp
Yikes. Shrimp changed. Cobb salad came with a 1/2 boiled egg. Salmon was fatty, which is super hard to do. Come on Christina's, times are tough but don't sacrifice the product.

L D.

Yelp
Food was good , best swordfish my husband ever had. Service was just ok. Waitress never told us the special "swordfish" was 44.00 a plate. A bit of sticker shock when bill came. Prime rib was good but also not really a special at 33.00. Also waitress never came to check on how dinner was or offer second drink till we were through We were there at 5:00 pm on Saturday night so it was busy but not mobbed.

Yelp
Last night was my first time here after driving by the place for years! We sat at a table by the bar which was very cozy. Both meals were amazing, I had the baked scrod which had a crabmeat stuffing, with garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed vegetables for sides. The potatoes were creamy and delicious, the vegetables were surprisingly good and I am not the biggest veggie eater. The fish was made perfectly! It has buttery breadcrumbs on top and had so much flavor with the crabmeat on top. My friends steak tips were cooked perfectly to how she ordered them. Service was super friendly and personable. Dessert included homemade pistachio ice cream which was delicious, and paired with a fudgey flourless chocolate cake.

Yelp
From the service to the delicious food. They always have creative specials. It's a hidden gem in Pembroke
google avatar

Suzanne D.

Yelp
Look forward to the daily specials. The food is cooked to perfection and love the seasonal vegetables.

Paul F.

Yelp
Went there on a recommendation for the brick oven pizza but instead we got seduced by the nice sounding specials. Our fried clams appetizer had a light crust but half the clams inside were as tough as inner tube rubber. Our Chicken Orvietto with Artichokes had good flavor but at $24 we should have gotten more than two measly chunks of artichoke, and when we were finished there was a pool of water sitting in the bottom of the dish. So, this shared meal amounted to one fried clams appetizer, one chicken and pasta entree, one glass of wine and two 12 oz glasses of beer on tap.. oh, and a $3.00 "convenience fee" for putting it on our card. Total before tip... $83.00. We should have gone with the pizza.

Yelp
Sirloin steak with garlic mash and vegetables was delicious. Onion rings on top were a nice touch. My mom had kid's chicken parmigiana which was good and the perfect size. Service was very accommodating and friendly. They had some water leaks from the rain they need to fix. Overall nice meal.

Yelp
Not sure who the new chef is but the food remains awesome. Great new additions to the menu. The oldies but goodies are there too. This place knows how to keep steady business while other places go through ups and downs. The regulars have a gold mine. Still the best bartenders on the south shore. Good job guys.

Yelp
Will NEVER be back. We always give a place 3 tries, but Christinas was a strike out. We went this past Friday night with friends. Had a reservation and they could not find it...then said oh we have one for the right time and number of people as you are saying so this must be yours. We finally were seated after having to wait, which was fine. It all went downhill from there. Our waitress was loud, rude and completely unhelpful when asked about things on the menu and about certain drinks. Once the drinks arrived, they were not very good. Either much too strong or too weak. Both kill a drink, that goodness I got wine. We then put in our orders, which she got two wrong and when the food arrived all the veggies were cold and one meal cold. She had no response to the cold veggies, but did take the cold meal back. By the time the meal came back to the table everyone else was just about finished and the meal was steaming, dried out and non edible. She wanted to know if they wanted to take the meal home!!! Really, the meal was non edible at the restaurant what makes her think it would be better the next day. She did end up taking the meal off but gave no apology or was there something else she could offer this person. This is just not a place you want to spend your money. There are too many nice places to waste your tine on a place like Christinas.

Yelp
Sat and ate on the bar side and it was great. Cozy atmosphere, really nice and attentive staff. Shrimp scampi flatbread pizza is yummy, and the fryed calamari is not the frozen cheap kind, fresh and tasty

Pete S.

Yelp
Food is always fresh and delicious, very generous portions, great adult beverages, nightly specials usually offered, awesome home made desserts if you still have room! Super friendly and attentive wait staff. Pub at the back of restaurant with a separate menu. Nice atmosphere but like most popular restaurants , gets pretty noisy during peak hours, well worth it though. Highly recommended!

Bryan H.

Yelp
Food is good but not amazing and the service has always been "so so" every time we've gone. Recently we went on a Saturday night around 6:30. It was busy but not crazy and the experience took about 2 hours because we had to flag down the waitress every time we needed anything. We were non existent, even more frustrating when you have a 7 and 10 year old with you. There are better options in the area.

Yelp
Hi just want to reach out to the folks at Christina's and say thanks for a wonderful dinner tonight. A great family style dinner. I wish other restaurants would do the same thing

Lilly T.

Yelp
Went to Christina's for the first time yesterday after getting a giftcard for an early Christmas gift. The restaurant was very festive and nicely decorated. The bread was amazing, with a great cranberry margarita. I had the lobster&shrimp tagliatelle which was amazing with HUGE pieces of lobster. The sea scallops and pork tenderloin were also big hits. I got to try some toffee that was for sale by MacSweets Gourmet (it was amazing) and bought 3 jars both for gifts and for myself. Overall great experience and I will be returning for sure!

Yelp
We were very pleased at Christina's. My wife enjoyed her Chicken, Broccoli and Penne. I the Shrimp Scampi. Large piping hot shrimp with a light sauce was sublime. Our daughter devoured the pizza as it was perfectly cooked and had a very pleasant taste. Service was outstanding, even when our daughter spilled her juice. They quickly came to her aid. Prices were reasonable and atmosphere was quiet and relaxing. While not ideal for families it accommodated our small family very well.

Rosemary K.

Yelp
Clearly the best restaurant in Pembroke. Kerry and Amanda are the heart and soul of this refreshing, delectable restaurant. Whether you dine in or get take out, it never disappoints. Our hands down favorite spot! The waitstaff are beyond efficient and kind as well! Don't miss out!

Yelp
Has been awhile since I've been here...it's as good as I remember it to be! Went last weekend & had a wonderful experience! Great food & outstanding service!!! Always feel welcomed by the friendly staff. I definitely won't wait so long to return!

Paul D.

Yelp
So after 27 years of living close by, my wife and I decided to finally try Christina's. Wow, were we surprised! Just enjoyed the Veal Chop on the specials and my wife had the Chicken Marsala. Both dishes were amazing! The veal was cooked to perfection sided with garlic mashed and a medley of seared Brussels sprouts and carrots. The chicken was breaded perfectly and the Marsala sauce had just the right touch of sweetness. We will be sure to make Christina's a regular dining spot from now on!

Lynn M.

Yelp
Great dinning experience. I enjoyed the baked scrod, it was moist flavorful and generous portion. The blueberry crostata was a perfect finish to the evening.

Erin O.

Yelp
I have always had great food at Christina's! Amazing service and amazing calamari!! The specials are always fabulous and they have really great desserts! If you're looking for a well rounded meal this is a great restaurant for that!

Yelp
Great restaurant specializing in Italian fare.Very popular with locals. We usually go with friends once or twice a month.Salads are great also.I usually order something different every time I go but the Chicken Braciolettine(sp?) is one of my favorites.Very generous portions so you might be to full to try the specialty desserts, like I usually am.Full bar featuring a nightly "specialty" drink(typically pricey). Nice atmosphere, dark but not too dark.Sinatra type music in the background.Deceivingly ample seating room, probably not a good atmosphere for kids. The hostess and wait staff are very friendly and accommodating,,,we usually tip in the 25% range. This may not be the very best Italian food I've ever had but It's definitely high up on the list! *recently added menu item:CRISPY chicken Marsala, highly recommended!

Yelp
Christina's restaurant is one of my favorite places to eat out at!! Great place to eat lunch and / or dinner at. Great for families, get together, and family outings, as well as date night, or just a place to eat at when you want to have a peaceful evening. I love eating out here with my family and grandparents. We come here from time to time. The staff are really friendly! Which, I'm pretty sure a family runs this business. I highly recommend the bread with oil as well as French fries. The ambiance is beautiful and peaceful. But, sometimes busy, with an ok noise level. Like I said, this is one of my favorite restaurants!!

Yelp
OMG! Just went here the other night with 2 girlfriends and was very surprised of how it was as the reviews are not that great. The bread is amazing and I love that they leave a huge dish of Parmesan cheese to add to the olive oil :) We all ordered different things and tried each others plates. I had the scallop casserole with a side of risotto. Both were cooked perfectly and they gave you huge scallops that were sweet and cooked to perfection. The risotto was creamy and smooth. One friend had the pork tenderloin which was cooked very nicely and was very moist. The other had the eggplant Parmesan that just melted in your mouth. After such a great meal and with plenty of leftovers, we all ordered a dessert. I got the apple crostada with cinnamon ice cream..died and went to heaven. The other 2 got the white chocolate cheesecake and lemon custard with raspberry sauce. All in all the cheesecake was better than the pudding. I would definitely return as I enjoyed the food thoroughly and the prices were reasonable.

Yelp
The food was fantastic. The service was poor. I went with a group of friends on a Monday night. Before placing our drink orders as we were sitting down, we asked if we could split the bill a couple ways (it's always easier to do this before ordering everything! I used to waitress and I always appreciated when people gave me the heads up. We asked at the beginning to make it easier for her). Her response was, "That's kind of a pain in the ass" with an annoyed look on her face. Oh?.... Im sorry but aren't you in the service industry? Isn't that your, uh, JOB? She was not friendly for the entire evening we were there. Other than that, the food was fantastic. It was my first time coming here and even though the service was bad, I'm willing to go back and try again because the pasta dishes were very well made. Hopefully I'll get a nicer waitress next time!

Yelp
Every time I come to visit my Grandmother I take her out to dinner here. The food is always good and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Love Christina's!

Linche L.

Yelp
Tonight I had what I felt was the best meal I've had in a restaurant in years. First I want to say that our server was so great - cute, funny and prompt. I almost always get the farfalle but tonight I decided to get a chicken dish, which I never do. Ordered the Coconut Chicken but asked if I could get the lobster and corn risotto instead of potato and veggie. (They are always accommodating when I've asked for a substitution and just adjust the charge a bit.) Anyway, I could not believe how good this meal was. So many restaurant meals now are bland and tasteless with barely any FLAVOR! I'm not even a big fan of chicken but this will be my go-to choice from now on when I'm at Christina's. The friend I went with got the lobster casserole and she loved it too.

Marie G.

Yelp
went for dinner ordered the baked scrod it was abolutely awful. the food was nursing home style. the fish was so overcooked it was actually hard and dry and did not taste fresh. it was cooked with no seasonings, butter, olive oil, nothing. the crumbs were not cooked at all. mashed potatoes thick, gluey and tasteless and had some broccoli with no seasoning. after multiple requests for bread we gave up. water was never refilled. i told the waitress the meal was inedible and asked for a substitution she just said "no" huge waste of an evening out. left without eating anything and stopped at a wonderful restaurant on the way home. this was a truly disgusting experience.

William M.

Yelp
6/26/18 Hottest day of the year so far. NO AIR CONDITIONING. Food very bland. Not worth the cost. Won't ever go again.
google avatar

Lindsay F.

Yelp
So we had a function there one day, I was charged for a certain amount of people and swear I was given way less, than the second time we had a function we ordered out portions wicked small I'm saying 1/2 piece of chicken for the chicken parmigiana. We ordered for 20 people and no one took large amounts and we didn't even have enough, for everyone!! When I called manger asked what I wanted how she could fix this when I said I'll come get another she told me the kitchen couldn't do it. I was also hung up on. Not sure myself or family will attend again

Brian D.

Yelp
Was looking forward to this visit . Service was really good . We thought the food was just not good at all . Scallops cooked like rubBer bands and the veal special was bland . For the price much better options out there . Too bad I really wanted to like this place. .

Monique C.

Yelp
The owners of Christina's are truly passionate about their jobs. They are dedicated to making every customer happy and full. The service and food never disappoints! I highly recommend Christina's

Linda R.

Yelp
I had the swordfish special the other night. It was 1 lb of swordfish! I split it with a friend and we both had leftovers to take home. The fish was moist and cooked to perfection. The server was wonderful. She was very helpfully and familiar with all the menu items. The busboys are adorable and always attentive to filling your water or taking away dirty dishes. I will definitely be going back!

Kate A.

Yelp
Christina's is one of the restaurants that never disappoints! We often go when neither one of us has a specific taste for something, because their menu is great and there is something for everyone! They have nice nightly special offerings too. Friendly and attentive staff, consistently, from the time you enter the door and throughout your meal. The atmosphere is cozy and there is no bad seat. I love a restaurant that is nice and toasty warm in the winter with no drafts or bad seat near the washrooms. A couple favorites are the shrimp scampi - one of the best I've tasted, and the coconut crusted chicken if you are in the mood for a simply delicious, different, comfort food! Other notables are the caesar salad and chicken parmesan. Whenever we're at Christina's, I look around and everyone else's dishes look great to me - I think this is always a good sign! If you like creme brûlée, you'll love this one and be pleased to know that the portion is quite large and great for sharing! Christina's is a five star restaurant in their category. Which I consider this the "go to" category: solidly great food, super staff, nice atmosphere and well priced. This is the way to do that!

Yelp
This is not my First time visiting Café Cristina, Each and every time the meal and service is TOP notch. Although the meal's there are smaller portion that I would have desired, It's well prepared and always served with a smile. The Service Staff from the Waiter, Waitress to the Bus Boys are attentive but not overbearing. The Interior is quaint and clean and ample parking in front or rear of the building. I would recommend you try this place for a Great Meal with family or friends

Joey L.

Yelp
Mother's Day Brunch - What a horrible rip-off this was! Never again. My family and I went to Christina's today for brunch - 12:30 pm reservation. Were not seated til around 1:00 PM, although there were plenty of tables. Many people waiting to be seated were also frustrated. I've had several good dinners at Christina's over the past few years, but this Buffet Brunch priced at $27.99 was the absolute worst. The "buffet" if you can call it that was set up on folding tables in another room. There was no attempt at even making the tables look presentable. There was a soggy fruit sales, some sliced beef and ham, salad, homes fries, lousy looking pancakes, eggs benedict, scrambled eggs some bacon, and sausage. And another separate table in the corner with desserts - which looked equally bad as the main buffet table. After returning to our table after visiting the buffet room, we began to eat and realized most everything we were eating that should've been hot was at room temperature, including eggs, eggs benedict, home fries, etc. Plus we had to get our own water and coffee from another buffet table. Fortunately, our waitress was very good and got coffee for us, which was again not hot. There were no water glasses available on the table so she had to bring us water, as well. After the "maIn course," we went back to try the desserts -- and they were pretty much all gone. There were a few chocolate mouses and some slivers of cake left. This was a VERY EMBARRASSING and DISAPPOINTING Mother's Day event for my family.. And, did I mention $27.99!! This was barely worth $7.99. I'm shocked that Christina's would treat customers this way. They clearly do not serve a brunch buffet regularly -- and just did not know what they were doing or how to price it appropriately. Or how to make a buffet table look appealing. Many other customers were clearly upset and shocked.

Freya M.

Yelp
Wonderful atmosphere and very attentive staff. Food and service is excellent! Would recommend to anyone visiting the Pembroke area

Maria P.

Yelp
To start- the food is good - the hostess is AWFUL!!! We were told a. 40 minutes wait after 1 1/2 hours of not being seated we were not happy. She had no idea of what she was doing! After 2 hours we were seated & would have never waited- food is good but not that good. They did nothing for us. Spend your money elsewhere!

Annemarie P.

Yelp
Christina's used to be one of our favorites, we tried it shortly after the new management had taken ownership and it was not very good. We took a hiatus for about a year and retried it last night... here is the recap: Host - I came in ahead of a party of three woman, he took them first and completely ignored my request for a table of 5. Then tried to stuff us all into one booth. After I said that would not work... told us.. He forgot about the 'Godfather Table'. Sorry but the dining room is not that big that you can forget about a table large enough for 5 or more. Temperature - HOT - 90 degrees outside and 95 inside - oppressively hot to the point the employees busing tables were fanning themselves with napkins. Asked about the air several times and each time was told - 'I'm not sure what's going on" Service - SLOW - we waited 20 minutes for drinks and 20 minutes for the bill. Food Quality - BAD - I ordered the scallops and risotto. It came with a weird brown sauce that was not described in the menu description. The risotto was as dense as sludge. It was described as lobster risotto but the lobster was microscopic and every bite I took had lobster shell in it. It looked like it had been made 6 hours earlier. My father had the chicken saltimbocca and visually was the most boring dish possible with the same weird brown sauce. There was one piece of chicken that had a tiny piece of cheese on it. Again, it did not match what was described in the menu. Lastly, my son ordered the chicken Parmesan and it was dry and practically not edible. It was fried beyond the point of tasting anything but like sawdust. Sadly, we say... we will never be going to Christina's again.

Yelp
Couldn't find a menu for this place online anywhere and after eating there I know why. They had only one gluten free option on the whole menu. So I ordered that because I had no choice. The food took forever and while we we're waiting they never refilled our drinks or came over. There was 7 adults and 4 kids in our party. The place was so loud we couldn't talk to the person next to you let alone across the table. Then when the food finally does come out everyones food is cold. They reheated a few of the meals but I was starving by then so I ate mine cold. Our server said the steam table broke and thats why the sides were cold, but it wasn't just the sides. They took the drinks off the bill. Only we didn't have any drinks other then a few sodas. So lame. $200 bill for the worst meal ever. Never again eat at this place.

Bashkalov B.

Yelp
Bashkalov Babadook can't speak for the sea food or anything else here. What B. Babadook CAN say is that the bred here is the best he's ever had. It's seriously excellent. I almost put myself in a bread-coma. The bread with the dipping sauce is simply out of this world. It's worth going there for that alone! Pizza is great too. Restaurant itself is a little dire but the atmosphere suffices. Seriously, get that bread! B. Babadook was a big big fan of that bread!

Yelp
We continue to go here as often as we can. Probably our favorite place in the entire area. It's our go-to restaurant especially for special occasions. I just recently learned they've got a video on YouTube. Check them out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_OeeF4yyDA
