The Best Chocolate Shops in San Francisco | Eater SF

"Recovering tech worker Julia Street wants chocolate lovers to remember two things: chocolate is a fermented food, and chocolate farmers deserve more than they’ve got. Her bars are tinkerings in chocolatiering gone right, incorporating ingredients from miso to beer, and are available at Gratta Wines or for delivery. Address is for scheduled pickup only." - Becky Duffett

It is FINE ART FOR YOUR TASTE BUDS!!!! RECOMMENDED by James from around the corner from ISOTOPE our favorite comic shop in San Fran. We walked in and were blown away by the quality, friendly advice and welcoming environment. It was kinda like a chocolate spa for your senses!!!!

Unique and wide range selections of chocolate and drinks. The quality is top tier and worth the price. I got the rosemary caramel, and it was incredible. Never had rosemary in a sweet before. The drinks are awesome too with the marshmallow topper. I had their new pumpkin spice one for the seasons. Love how luxurious you feel when you are sitting inside enjoying your drink.

Yesterday I went into the store for the first time, although I had passed by many, many times. I bought some to try (I usually buy candy at See's Candies on Market Street). The atmosphere here is pleasant, the packaging is of excellent quality, the sellers are very polite, attentive and will serve every customer with pleasure, attentive - they will always provide a discount and make a set of candies at your request (this is very important and convenient). The candies themselves are a work of art!!! I liked the taste of the bright orange candy with a citrus filling. These candies are great for gifts and should be eaten in a special mood! I recommend and wish you prosperity.

I almost want to gate-keep this place. 😅 This place really deserves a lot of love and business! My spouse and I really love this place! In our humble opinion, they’ve the best chocolates and hot chocolate in SF! My go to is the hazelnut hot chocolate with oat milk and whipped marshmallow! Their single-origin chocolate from Ghana are out-of-the-world amazing!!

Google
Pros: terrific chocolate, equally amazing hot chocolate bar, great coffee and service This is a long overdue review. Christopher Elbow is a truly unique shop. It offers top tier chocolate treats that are enhanced by a beautiful gift box experience. Their curated gift boxes are perfect for literally anyone in your life as the quality of the chocolate and presentation will always be very impressive. It’s not cheap but I think priced reasonably for such special products. Their hot chocolate bar is really amazing as well and the service has always been top notch. Highly recommended!

If you’re a true chocolate lover, Christopher Elbow is a must-visit in San Francisco. This isn’t just chocolate—it’s pure art in both taste and design. Each piece is stunning, like a miniature masterpiece with vibrant colors and intricate patterns. The flavors are extraordinary, from rich dark chocolate to unique combinations like lavender, rosemary, or caramel with sea salt. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the elegant packaging makes their chocolates perfect for gifts. Christopher Elbow offers an unforgettable experience for anyone who values quality and creativity in chocolate. Highly recommend!

Google
This place is great. I was looking for a chocolate shop near the center of SF before heading home and this place was perfect. The hot chocolate was a fantastic 73% Ecuador origin with a house made meringue and boy was it rich and flavorful. The chocolates look gorgeous with a variety of flavors and they even have chocolate turtles which are my favorite. The lounge is peaceful, inviting and has nice chill music.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful (and delicious) chocolate bonbons that make the perfect gift. The flavors are interesting and diverse (Caramel Pecan, Butterscotch Bourbon, Fleur de Sel, Strawberry Balsamic, just to name a few), and (according to their website) their chocolates contain no artificial preservatives. During my most recent visit, I bought two gift boxes (8 pieces each, $26 per box). I traveled with them overseas and they kept very well! Service was professional and helpful, and the inside was clean and well-maintained. Highly recommend a visit!

Yelp
Great chocolate spot These were really good: Chocolate bon bons: Dark milk Raspberry Strawberry Hot drink: _Drinking chocolate (cocoa noir )

Yelp
Best chocolates ever. Super expensive but it's worth. The liquid chocolate is also delicious. 10/10 no notes

Yelp
The chocolate bonbons at Christopher Elbow Chocolates in San Francisco are just exquisite. It's hard to go wrong with any of the different flavors, fillings, infusions. It doesn't hurt that they also look like little works of art! Today I tried the Hazelnut Caramel ($3) flavor, which is a 'salted caramel blended with smooth hazelnut praline', it was amazing. I also tried the Lavender ($3) flavor, which they describe as a 'silky caramel infused with French lavender' - it's decadent and absolutely worth a try. We got lucky to try a sample of their Raspberry chocolate, which they were sharing only due to a flaw in the pattern decorated on the chocolate. They wouldn't put it in the display for sale due to the slight perceived flaw. It's nice to know the level of attention to details here. I appreciated the kindness from the staff to let us try this piece, it got me excited for more. They have a seating area inside that I didn't utilize. Maybe next time for their drinking chocolate!

Yelp
The best drinking chocolate I've ever had! I'm usually not a fan of hot chocolate because of how sweet and rich it is, but Christopher Elbow's dark chocolate versions are a lovely treat that isn't overly sweet. I appreciate the no extra cost for specialty flavors, oat milk, and whipped cream/marshmallow toppings. The signature cocoa noir is a classic that you can't go wrong with, but I came for the delicious seasonal peppermint. It's the perfect holiday beverage! The passion fruit is nice and tangy, and I prefer this over orange chocolate. They all looked really attractive with the chocolate shavings and peppermint bits, and the size is about right. My only complaint is that the drinks could be hotter. I'd love to try the spiced noir and pumpkin spice drinking chocolates in the future.

Yelp
I had heard of Christopher Elbow Chocolates but never had the chance to try their chocolate. Since it was a chilly afternoon, it was the perfect weather for hot chocolate. Two friendly employees greeted me and explained their offerings. I ordered the Passion Fruit Drinking Chocolate with milk and whipped marshmallow ($6.50 + tax): +Dark chocolate and passion fruit made for a creamy rich drinking chocolate with pops of tartness from the passion fruit. +Whipped marshmallow was soft, fluffy, and not too sweet. -Passion fruit shavings tasted more like passion fruit chocolate as opposed to actually passion fruit. Side notes: 1.) Self-serve napkins and spoons 2.) Restrooms available for customers. 3.) Walking distance from Van Ness Station *Verdict: This was the best hot chocolate I've ever had! In addition, I enjoyed lounging in the seating area while reading a magazine from their collection. With some many flavors, I'd love to come back to try more!

Yelp
I often order the Cocoa Noir or fruity (passion fruit or raspberry) drinking chocolates. Service is pretty quick (even when the store is busy) and there's a small and relaxing seating area for guests. The drinking chocolate flavors are quite rich, but not overly sweet. The quality many flavors and custom options (e.g. marshmallow) make this a fun place to return to. The drinks are more dark chocolate-heavy, which I enjoy, but may not appeal to everyone.
google avatar

Jennifer W.

Yelp
The service was great and the workers there are always so welcoming. I shared a Cocoa Noir Hot Chocolate with a friend, as they mentioned it can be quite heavy and rich. For someone who doesn't enjoy dark chocolate much, this was a bit hard to drink. It tasted like a huge cup of melted chocolate and the bitterness was quite strong. Quality was amazing, but definitely not for everyone. I wish they had a slightly sweeter and creamier option. Overall, I would recommend for people who loves the bitterness of dark chocolate.

Yelp
I could never stop thinking about having cacao straight from Ecuador! The dark chocolate of its true origin was what I indulge the most! Divine, guilt-free decadence will always be found in my heart, with little or no sugar. Here in Christopher Elbow Chocolate of Hayes Valley, the menu in front of the cashier was what caught my eye. Not only were they have fruity concoctions in every drinking chocolate, there's also few different single origin ones, ranging from Belize to Dominican Republic. I would definitely like to go for a much darker chocolate blended from different countries. Til then, I only go for single origin every time I visit. No milk, just water. No additional sweetener. And no whipped cream on top. That's exactly how I savor dark chocolate, in a bar form or a beverage. :-P If chocolate truffles weren't more appealing, perhaps I might purchase extremely expensive chocolate bars or containers of chocolate powder on the glass counter of the right side. Left side is the seating area. I never realized that there was a chocolatier I once passed by since its been opened for years. Wherever I go, even if I were to visit Kansas City one day, dark chocolate will always be my way.

Yelp
Finally had a chance to stop here to try their hot chocolate - not just any hot chocolate but closer to the European drinking chocolate. I went with hazelnut and kiddo ordered the passionfruit. They were both topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. To me, the portion size was just right since they were so rich and decadent! Yum! Also had to pick up some chocolates while there. They were just for me, so I didn't need a box (box = extra charge). Dark chocolate is my fave, so the Ghana stood out for me. The ones with the caramels were also good.
google avatar

Melissa L.

Yelp
We bought orange peel chocolates and ordered two hot chocolates here: the cocoa noir with whipped marshmallow topping and raspberry chocolate shavings topping and the single origin Dominican Republic with no toppings. The hot chocolate was amazingly delicious! I mistakenly thought they had European sipping hot chocolate but was pleasantly surprised that they have flavors (passion fruit, raspberry, mocha, etc) for their hot chocolates! I also tried their chocolates which were delicious! The chocolate with caramel and French sea salt was wonderful.

Yelp
I'm in love with the cocoa.... Chocolate that is :) My husband and I walked past this lovely establishment after dinner tonight and I am so glad we stopped in! We picked out 6 perfectly designed chocolates (3 for each so no fighting over them) and each one was delicious. We had: 1) lime caramel 2) lemon (times two- definitely were not gonna split this one) 3) caramel bourbon 4) raspberry 5) caramel latte I'm sort of sad we found these delightful treats because now I am going to have to add an extra day at the gym to justify stopping by a couple times a month. It will be worth it though because these bad boys are made with love and taste amazing. You should stop by and try some out for yourself!
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious chocolate bon bons in a beautiful presentation. Nice staff as well. Good treat for when you can stop by and indulge - off the Hayes strip with many good restaurants.

Yelp
Christopher Elbow Chocolates has the best hot chocolate in town. I got the dark chocolate peppermint with white chocolate shavings, and it was amazing--opt for the gooey marshmallow topping, you won't regret it. What a great treat for a leisurely stroll in Hayes Valley- yum!

Yelp
Unique and wide range selections of chocolate and drinks. The quality is top tier and worth the price. I got the rosemary caramel, and it was incredible. Never had rosemary in a sweet before. Yelp
This spot has the best hot chocolate in SF! The hot chocolate was truly the star of the show - if you are a dark chocolate lover, you are definitely in for a treat! They have different origins of cacao and they let you choose which origin to make your hot chocolate from! The hot chocolate is very rich, creamy, and not too sweet! We tried a few of their truffles (Passionfruit, Hazelnut, and Dark Chocolate), which were all delicious! I think the Passionfruit one was my favorite! The staff was friendly in helping choose which truffles to get! The seating area and interior is also really nice -- will definitely be back soon!
google avatar

Yelp
DRINKING CHOCOLATE- one with Passion Fruit, whipped cream and white chocolate shavings and the other with marshmallow topping. Made an otherwise tough work week -instantly SO MUCH BETTER! Do not miss these! (Oh and their chocolates are pretty great, too! )

Yelp
Came here once out of curiosity and have been coming back here almost every other month cause they're that good. I'm usually not a fan of caramel, but the way they infused theirs with different flavors is quite magical. The first time I had these, my mind was blown. They also have a variety of chocolate bars and the espresso hazelnut is my absolute favorite. They have a wall with different boxes available, but you can also build your own box. Employees are super nice and sometimes they give you samples as well. These chocolates are on the pricey side, but they're worth every penny. They also great for gifts!
google avatar

Cathrin P C.

Yelp
I used to think Godiva was good and See's Candy was basic. Then I came across Christopher's and mmm this is good chocolate. We got the salted hazelnut caramel and the caramel latte. It's so small, like 2 bites small. $3 each. Service was friendly. Definitely feels like you're shopping at some upscale boutique. Little too pricey but interesting to try once
google avatar

Julia S.

Yelp
While out shopping in the area, my friends and I decided to check out this spot. The first employee we encountered went over their different items but then stepped away. After we browsed for a bit, a second employee answered all our questions and helped us with our order. We ended up grabbing the vanilla bean caramel and pecan caramel. There were some eating on the side, so we enjoyed it in the store. The vanilla bean one had loads of caramel and a chocolate shell, although the vanilla flavor was a bit subtle. The pecan caramel was surprisingly large, with chewy caramel and a good balance of flavors. I wish the salt was more evenly distributed, but it was still delicious. It's on the pricier side, but it's definitely a nice treat or a great gift idea.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this cute little chocolate shop with a few cushion seats, perfect place to catch up with a friend. Hazelnut Hot Chocolate -- So RICH and CREAMY. This is hands down my 2nd favorite spot (Phil's being my #1) Macademia Praline -- Reminded me of the Macademia ice cream I fell in love with in the Caribbeans (Closest taste to that) Earl Grey -- The unique fashion between chocolate and tea BLEW my MIND Anyways, I definitely recommend y'all stop by and try them out when you're in the area.

Janie M.

Yelp
They are the VERY best chocolates in all the land. They are so yummy. They just melt in your mouth. I love introducing my friends to these wonderful chocolates. They are just the best ever! THank you for making the best chocolates ever!! They make great thank you gifts or just gifts in general!!
google avatar

Yelp
Unique chocolate flavors that are perfect for gift giving. Friendly staff with great knowledge. These chocolates are so pretty to look at with traditional and untraditional flavors.

Yelp
Ordered the hot chocolate with dark chocolate, oak milk and marshmallow topping It was really good! It's not too sweet in case you like it sweet Nice people work here and were very patient with my ordering questions

Pranav M.

Yelp
First off, the ambiance and service were both excellent. The employees were happy to answer any questions I had about specific drinks. Unfortunately, there were no samples and I guess I should have known going in, but drinks were quite pricey for a small portion. I found the flavor quite underwhelming for the price point and the drink was warm not super hot (that may be my personal preference though). Note that they have different types of milk if you are dairy free.

Yelp
Christopher Elbow is a must go if you're in Hayes Valley. I've never had chocolates quite like the ones you'll find here, and I highly recommend treating yourself to a few. They are all quite literally works of art, and they taste amazing. My favorites were the passion fruit and the lemon. They were both so decadent and rich, and it was love at first bite. I was only going to eat one and save the rest for later, but it was pretty much impossible and I ate them all right away. The service was fast and friendly, and the staff members were helpful with recommending which chocolates they thought we would like. I will definitely be back- I want to try everything.
google avatar

Barbara I.

Yelp
I couldn't decide , so I got the deluxe assortment. It was worth every penny. I will make the trip to Hayes Valley soon to purchase more. These are incredible works of chocolatier art I've ever had. Every infused ganache or caramel were amazingly delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
If you have never been, it is a must-try. The chocolate pieces are unique. I came here to buy two gift boxes and one small box for myself today. When you walk through the doors, the staff greets you immediately, and the service is fantastic. The modern look of the store makes it comfortable, plus they have a sitting area to have coffee or even taste the box of chocolates that you bought to eat.
google avatar

Allison T.

Yelp
A beautiful chocolatier nestled in the heart of Hayes Valley! As soon as I walked in, I was amazed by the vast array of chocolates on display. There is the option to purchase single bonbons or boxes. I tried: Earl grey - subtle yet powerful flavor! The filling and chocolate were both so smooth and complemented each other perfectly. I highly recommend this one if you like earl grey! Yuzu citrus - the inside was infused with an AMAZING citrusy tropical flavor! Worked really well with the chocolate as well Drinking chocolate - I tried both the raspberry and the passionfruit drinking chocolate and while it was a lot thicker than I expected, they were both super rich in texture and flavor. I personally was not a huge fan of drinking chocolate in general, but I preferred the raspberry over the passionfruit. All the employees were very patient and helpful in explaining the chocolates to us as well! I recommend giving Christopher Elbow a try if you're looking for a nice gift or a treat for yourself!

Yelp
Wow, my friend brought me to Christopher Elbow and I was completely blown away! The service here is great, the employees behind the counter really know all their chocolates and will explain everything to you! They have two types of chocolates, infused caramels and the flat squares are all truffles. First of all, the BEAUTY of each chocolate! So perfect for gifts or just a little treat. Each individual chocolate is $3.00 but then there are different prices if you buy various sized boxes. Favorite chocolates tried: - Yuzu citrus!! (pink and yellow swirl) 11/10 the flavor was SO intense i was shocked by how much flavor they could fit into a small little caramel chocolate -Pistachio (square with green designs) oh man if you love pistachio you HAVE to try this one! it was smooth, and full of sweet pistachio flavor. -Earl Grey Tea (square with purple designs) another winner here, the truffle was smooth and this had a much fainter flavor than the others that I tried, but the tea flavor was definitely prominent Drinking chocolate: -Raspberry - honestly i did really like my first few sips of the raspberry drinking chocolate. it was intensely rich and creamy, basically melted chocolate in some milk. Raspberry flavor was mild -Passion Fruit - took a sip of my friend's Passion Fruit and it was way more sour than expected. honestly not my favorite chocolate and fruit pairing :( Overall, the kind service we received as well as the intensely flavored and beautiful chocolates, I definitely come back here to buy gifts or just for a small treat!

Yelp
I have always heard of fancy chocolatier shops but I have never personally went to one until I tried Christopher Elbow! Located in the heart of Hayes Valley, Christopher Elbow is surrounded by the bustling community of Hayes, with so many local shops and restaurants to try close by! We actually stumbled upon Christopher Elbow because my friends wanted to check it out, and I am so glad we did! When you enter the shop you're immediately greeted by a vast variety of beautifully colored and decorated pieces of chocolates. Inside the shop was very modern and clean with glass cases showcasing their beautiful display. The woman who helped us was so friendly and very open to providing recommendations, joking around with us, and overall so welcoming! In terms of chocolates, I tried their Yuzu Mandarin, which was decorated in beautiful orange and pink hues in swirls. When you take a bite of the chocolate, the interior's filling was so creamy but not sticky or chewy. Instead it just naturally melted in your mouth and you could really appreciate the citrus notes that complemented the decadence of the chocolate! I've never felt so luxurious while eating a piece of chocolate! I only got one individual piece, but they also offer different packs where you can select which chocolates you'd like to purchase for an overall discounted price. Overall, I recommend Christopher Elbow's if you're looking for a way to treat yourself to nice chocolates or if you want to get a sweet and beautiful gift to a loved one!
google avatar

Ananya S.

Yelp
Incredible chocolatier! The ambience, service & quality were all sublime! The bonbons and truffles themselves are quite pricey so I opted for a cup of hot chocolate which was $5 and such good value! You get the option to have the standard milk chocolate or dark chocolate and can do add ons for flavor for free. I got the dark chocolate with the hazelnut praline in regular milk (total was $5 w regular milk, w oat milk it's $6). This was made w 85% dark chocolate and for someone who loves the more bitter dark chocolate it was perfect and the hazelnut praline added more complex flavor. Unlike other hot chocolate places Christopher Elbow makes their drinks with milk (you can opt for water but... why?) which makes it rich and frothy. They also add a roasted marshmallow for free! They have so many unique chocolates for sale, from bars to individual truffles to their drinking chocolate mixes. A great place to treat yourself or grab gifts for chocolate lovers.

Tracy A.

Yelp
Wonderful staff, selection and overall experience. Great for gifts, or just a sensory journey. They know how to use that espresso machine as well! Pleasant surprise.
google avatar

Mia F.

Yelp
Extremely rude member of staff (pale woman with jet black hair, as an identifier) was incredibly rude to me and gave me dirty looks the entire time I was admiring candies and choosing what I wanted. The candies were tasty, but basically all the same; she did not give us proper information about the candies when we asked, so going home with three slightly different variations of caramel filled candy was disappointing to say the least.

alex s.

Yelp
I made a quick stop at your SF-hayes Valley location to pick up a box of chocolates. The female working the counter could not have been more unprofessional and rude even if she tried. Such a disconnect between walking into a place that sells a high end product and those who represent your brand. Would I keep on coming in to purchase your chocolates? Probably.. But how disappointing to be treated to such a low grade experience.

Yelp
Christopher Elbow Chocolates are beautiful to look at as they are to delight your taste buds. We were strolling down Hayes Valley closed to pedestrians only at Hayes Street & Gough Street after a late Saturday afternoon lunch in August. We had visited the chocolateier about a year ago and decided we "needed" a coffee and chocolate sampling. As the photos show these mini master pieces are beautifully colorful, whimsically shaped and perfect confectionery combination to absorb all of your senses. We choose too many to list here but added a Hazelnut coffee and a spicy chocolate cappuccino. The staff was very helpful in explaining the various chocolate varieties, personally engaging and guided our selections with gracious hospitality. We enjoyed our selections of "Coffees & Chocolates" in a very hip seating space. We were served a complimentary sample called the "Belize" of a colored graphic stencil on a dense dark chocolate cube. It along with our custom coffees were perfection. So next time you are wandering San Francisco Hayes Valley neighborhood make it a point to visit!

Yelp
I came across Christopher Elbow's Instagram, and I immediately knew I had to try their chocolates! When my group arrived at the store, we were greeted by the staff who were all very friendly and took the time to explain the chocolates to us. The colorful round chocolates are caramel filled and the flat squares are truffles with ganache. I was so amazed by the beautiful colors of the caramel filled chocolates and the intricate designs of the flat chocolate truffles. You can order one chocolate for $3 as a bonbon or order by the number of chocolates as a boxed set. I got one boxed set to take home and tried the Fleur de Sel as a bonbon which was recommended by the staff. The Fleur de Sel is the black and white caramel filled chocolate which is a buttery caramel infused with sea salt. I took one bite out of the chocolate and was instantly blown away. The caramel was sooo smooth and almost liquid, I think it was the BEST caramel I had ever tasted! And the taste was AMAZING! Everyone else in my group also got a bonbon for themselves and was also blown away by their own pieces. They also have a drink menu too if you wanted to get a flavored hot chocolate! I wish I could have tried every single flavor, but that just means I have to go back to try more of their chocolates :D A really great place for high quality chocolate as a gift or a treat for yourself!
google avatar

Erich L.

Yelp
Good independent fancy chocolate. They have coffee and drinks too. Interesting place and not too expensive for the quality of chocolate. They try to be environmentally conscious too.
google avatar

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
Decadent, gorgeous, and honestly the best way to treat yourself. Each of their flavors are beautifully designed and although pricey (25$ for 8 pieces which ends up around 3$ a piece) I think it's the best choice as a gift for others or yourself for any occasion. The pieces are so delicate and unique, with a selection of seasonal flavors.
google avatar

Joe R.

Yelp
If you love, excellent chocolate superior in every way, with each bite, being like a getaway to Switzerland, or to England, eating the finest chocolate chews this location. Each delectable variable bite is amazing in a Masters peace decorated like heaven. The staff are so friendly and patient as you ponder and choose each delectable bite. In addition they offer up, a dreamy array of hot chocolate that will bewilder and surprise you in so many ways. This is now a go to on a cold evening and Hayes Valley, I can't stop going here, and it is quite addictive. I do recommend it highly as it is such a regular stop off for me during the day during the evening and for special locations.
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
Beautiful artesian chocolates in a wide assortment of flavors! This is my go to place and one of my stops before visiting family and friends overseas. They also have a good selection of dark chocolates if that's your preference as well. There's great chocolates everywhere, but this place stands out in how vibrant the chocolates are. It's always a striking gift with an assortment of contrasting colors and a surprise in each bite-- and a stark comparison to the normal assortment of chocolates that is all about shades bold brown. Service is solid. Only street parking is available-- which is tricky in the area.
google avatar

Jacob M.

Yelp
What's not to love about these bon bons and truffles that look way too beautiful to eat? Definitely don't forget to get multiple!

Carlina H.

Yelp
I loved this place, the staff are wonderful and the chocolates are delicious. I always buy a box here before going to see my mother. I was super disappointed this time to find that almost all of the painted chocolates have changed to white chocolate which for the price of these chocolates just isn't right. I know that chocolate prices have gone up but these are expensive and I hoped I would get what I had paid for before. Please go back to your old recipes. They were delicious and the white chocolate is just too sweet.
google avatar

Catherine N.

Yelp
The wafer thin, crackly shell of bonbons is such a pleasure to bite into and Christopher Elbow delivers! The bonbons have two primary fillings - ganache or flavored caramels. My personal favorites were the single origin ganaches, in which you really can appreciate the different flavor nuances of chocolate. Some of the other favorites was the lime and passion fruit bonbons! But, all the bonbons were beautifully made and delightful to try. It makes for a great gift for anyone, or in my case, a weekend treat myself treat. I also love that they have a rewards program that gives points toward a huge chocolate box. It pays to buy chocolate! I will be frequenting this chocolatier in hopes to one day get that 40 piece box.

Yelp
Saw this place after grabbing drinks nearby and was drawn by the storefront so we decided to check it out. This is definitely on the pricier end and I'm not sure I'd get it again. Service 6/10 - I thought the lady in the front could've been a bit more helpful with recommending flavors. She seemed like she was in a rush to get me in and out as quickly as possible even though there was no one in line. Fresh Lemon 6/10 Macadamia Praline 5/10 Yuzu Mandarin 8/10 - This one was my favorite one and had a nice burst of yuzu flavor. Yuzu fans would love this one. Very unique! Seasalt Caramel 7/10

Yelp
THE. DRINKING. CHOCOLATE! Christopher Elbow is a place that I frequent mainly for their drinking chocolate. The "drinking chocolate" is a delectable creamy hot chocolate concoction topped with whipped cream and a thick marshmallow that all blend together to create the experience of a warm chocolatey hug. Their chocolates are also delicious and artfully crafted, however are far more expensive than the drinking chocolates at $50 for a box of 16 chocolates or $3 for a single piece of chocolate; and quite frankly there are much more reasonably priced chocolate places that have richer and higher quality crafted chocolates I would rather purchase - such as Casa de Chocolates in Berkeley. The reason for the 5 stars is simply the drinking chocolate. It is hands down the best $5 you could spend - especially if you are a chocolate lover. My go to flavors of drinking chocolate include the hazelnut and the spiced dark. The hazelnut drinking chocolate (5/5): This tastes like a rich liquified form of hot nutella with a slight tang of bitterness from the dark chocolate mix and a blend of sugary sweetness from the foamy whipped cream and marshmallow. The spiced dark chocolate (5/5): This tastes like a semi-sweet blend of paprika, red chili powder, cinnamon, cardamon and chili peppers along side a smooth and creamy dark chocolate base. If you are a spicy chocolate lover this one is a definite must. Covid regulations (5/5): Christopher Elbow is taking proper precautions for covid - making sure to sanitize all the counters, and all the employees are wearing face masks as well as enforcing a 6 feet distance waiting policy. When you enter there is a hand sanitizer stand, and there is also more hand sanitizer available near the register when you are paying.

Yelp
Gorgeous chocolates with an impressive collection of fun flavors! The interior of the store is clean and refreshing, with a small area in the back to sit and enjoy the chocolate. We did got two sets of the chocolate truffles -- they make great gifts as they are so pretty. Of the five we've had, rosemary has been my favorite. We did not get the drinking chocolate but will definitely be returning to try it later.

Yelp
Last November (what a difference a year makes), I brought maybe 8-10 tins of their hot chocolates and some TJ Marcona almonds (Spain import) and carried them on board with me on my flight to Hong Kong. My hubby had to help me lug these items simply because he's married to me. Sorry honey, I promise I won't do it again. Next time I will DHL/FedEx/UPS everything. My HK relatives and friends also think (but too polite to say it out loud) I'm a crazy girl because they have everything in HK, why would I carry so much stuff. Well, for one thing, I didn't want to go visit them empty-handed. Yes, I gave some money to the kids, but I really wanted to give them something I love, enjoy and made here in my country. What do I enjoy? Chocolates. Also there are no Christopher Elbow chocolates in HK (last time I checked) and I wanted to bring something that was made in the USA. I really believe in the quality of this chocolate, and thought they will love it. And they do.

Yelp
Amazingly delicious quality. Since I don't live by them anymore I try to get a customized box shipped to me for special occasions. My favorite is the lavender bonbon. Whatever flavor you get, prepare for a punch! So if you like lavender, you're definitely getting strong LAVENDER flavor, which I love.
