Yelp
This was the first time we'd dined here. We were celebrating our 20th Anniversary and saw all of the reviews saying "we had a great anniversary dinner here", so I easily made a reservation on line. While making the reservation, I selected an option that said it was our anniversary. We were greated by the hostess who wished us a happy anniversary and we were seated immediately at a nice little candlelit table. Our waiter Ryan welcomed us, wished us a happy anniversary, told us about the evenings specials in detail and offered substitutions and suggestions. He was friendly and professional, then also wished us a happy anniversary and said "dessert is on us!" They obviously looked at the reservation closely since they all knew it was our anniversary. I like that attention to detail. They brought bread, butter and our escargot appetizer. The escargot melt in your mouth and had plenty of garlic butter sauce for dipping the bread. We also had red sangria and Moscato. The entrees come with soup and salad (not soup OR salad). The soup was good (a chicken brother was egg, spinach and I think rice... kind of like a wedding soup... tables around us raved about it. Hubby I enjoyed it, but it was just soup. The salad was lettuce with red cabbage, a tomato slice and a mustard vinaigrette. Good. Nothing over the top (not like the $25 entree salads with Brussels and beets and goat cheese)...it was more kind of "old school Italian restaurant, like Sinatra probably had" vibe... but it was a good start to the meal... we both enjoyed it. I like a little dinner salad to start, and the fact that it came with the meal - you don't see that anymore... it was nice. My husband got the poached salmon. I love seafood but always find salmon too fishy for me. This wasn't fishy at all. It was poached perfectly, a surprisingly large portion, a nice lemon dill sauce. I would order that salmon. He opted for pasta instead of the veggies, and had his choice of marinara or Alfredo. They were very accommodating. He also had a choice to poach or grill. I ordered the veal Christo (veal with bay shrimp, crab [imitation], mushroom and wine sauce. I enjoyed it. I think when it says crab on the menu, it should specify if it is imitation. It doesn't bother me, but I can see where some may have an issue with it if they are expecting crab. The veal was tender, easily cut with a butter knife. The wine sauce was tasty and not heavy. Choosing a dessert was difficult... it all sounded pretty good and we don't eat sugar, but this was a special occasion so we went for it. Options included tirimasu, cheesecake, flourless chocolate cake, limoncello mascarpone cake, chocolate layer cake, cannoli and I believe chocolate mousse...or and a Creme caramel/flan. We opted for the limoncello. It had a strawberry sauce drizzle. It wasn't cloyingly sweet. It was perfect with two forks. Waters were refilled before they got below half. Bread refilled with still a slice in the basket. The waiter checked on us, others walked by and checked in, and what may have been the manager or owner also stopped by checking on each table. Dirty plates were cleared immediately. The meal was very enjoyable...and the tables around us all expressed the same. The wait staff was great.... and honestly, that's a huge part of it. You can have a delicious meal, but if the service is sub par, it affects the experience. We will be back. The prices aren't outrageous either, so you don't have to wait for a special occasion. But it is nice enough, with waiters all in black, attention to detail, food quality, that if it is a birthday or anniversary, it's a good option. They've been there over 30 years. That is understandable given our experience. Thank you, Christos!
