The 22 Best Restaurants Near Penn Station - New York - The Infatuation

"There is no better way to celebrate a Knicks or Rangers win than at Chubby Skewers, a grill-it-yourself Chinese barbecue spot just a few blocks north from MSG and Penn Station. Open until 3am, this spot has fridges full of different cuts of wagyu, lamb, prawns, pork, and vegetables just waiting to be dusted in their spicy, cumin-based seasoning blend and cooked over a hot grill. Most of the skewers cost $1.20 each, meaning you can easily fill up for about $12. Grab a beer or two, and enjoy the smoky dining room." - bryan kim, will hartman, willa moore, neha talreja, molly fitzpatrick

This is an awesome spot to get skewers after a night out with friends. The atmosphere here is chill and the food is great. I came around 1am and was seated quickly. I loved the cumin and other spices at the table to season your skewers. There is a wide selection of skewers near the entrance and I love the buffet style of getting your own food. Overall this is a great spot to hangout with friends and enjoy well priced skewers.

I am a huge fan of Chinese skewers and so, when I heard that a new spot opened in Manhattan, I had to try it. This Chinese skewers spot is bright, casual, and super fun to go with friends. The seats are surprisingly low to the ground, so note if you have mobility issues. Otherwise, it's a comfortable spot and good for a late night vibe. The premise here is that any skewer is $1.25. While it sounds like a good deal, it honestly adds up pretty fast and the portions are as big as the ones that I've seen at other skewer spots (such as those in Flushing). The quality isn't bad but nothing crazy. I did really like their appetizers and additional plates that you could call though, such as their cold noodles, fried pork, or fried buns with condensed milk. Overall, it was good but I think if I really wanted skewers, I would go to Flushing for more affordable prices and better portions.

Chubby Skewers was both our first and last meal in New York and it couldn’t have been better. We found it late at night after a long day of traveling, and it was such a relief to find a place open with great vibes. The atmosphere is fun and totally different from anything we have back home. The food was amazing. I especially loved the scallop skewers, the wagyu beef, and pretty much all the seafood. The scallop on the shell appetizer was a standout. Big thanks to the staff, especially Ming, who was super friendly and helpful. Can’t wait to come back next time I’m in the city!

Google
Average food, fun experience, but probably wouldn’t go back. Do it once to experience it though! It’s a fun time. Space: It’s a big restaurant, but they jam the tables and chairs so close together it’s hard to move through it. We sat upstairs at a 4-person table with 2 people- it was so tight. The tables and chairs are kindergarten height so even as two short 5-foot gals we were barely a foot off the ground, it’s so low. With the tables equipped with the grills there’s nearly no space to put stuff. With 3 apps and a skewer tray each, we maxed out our table space. The tables/chairs are back to back with other table/chairs too. If it were a packed house we’d be at fire code and likely have tripping hazards guaranteed. It looked more spacious downstairs. Food: Average. Tempting to take many skewers at $1.30/piece but they add up fast! There is barely any meat on each skewer and many of the skewers themselves were sticky when I picked them up. Questionable dishwashing between uses. The kitchen-cooked dishes were okay. Nothing special and not the cheapest either. Best part about the food were actually the drinks! They were super delicious. Service: This was the best part. Plenty of staff to help and bring things around, explain how to cook certain things. The signage isn’t great so the staff were friendly and helpful. The downside is much of this restaurant’s experience is self-service cooking so the staff don’t actually do much besides clean up the plates and bring drinks + pre-cooked foods. Even refilling water is help yourself. Cool concept restaurant but if I wanted to pay the same price for a good meal I’d probably just check out other a la carte BBQ places nearby. This one took a lot of energy to figure out and the quality didn’t live up to expectations.

Google
Dropped by Chubby Skewers for a casual bite and had a pretty enjoyable experience. The concept is fun—tons of skewer options to choose from, with a variety of proteins and veggies grilled to your liking. The portions are definitely on the smaller side, so it’s easy to lose track of how many you’ve eaten. At $1.29 a skewer, it adds up quickly—I blinked and had over 50, no joke! The process was new to me at first—figuring out the right combination of seasoning and adjusting to the low seating took a minute—but once I got the hang of it, it was a laid-back and flavorful experience. Bonus points for the interactive setup where you drop your used skewers into a container to be counted at the end. Fun, but definitely one of those “you don’t realize how much you’ve eaten until the check shows up” kind of places.

Google
The food are amazing and our server Qi J makes the whole experience even better with his service. The way things work here simply grab the skewers inside the fridge (Buffet style) and then they will charge PER stick/skewer which a really good deal. On top of that as a customer we had the experience by grilling by ourselves and it’s such a vibes to bring friends! Definitely my favorite spot to hangout/late night craving.

Google
One of the best Chinese BBQ experiences I’ve had so far this year! Every skewer was packed with flavor—tender meats, just the right spice, and grilled fresh. The quality really stood out, from the lamb to the chicken wings. Service was quick, polite, and super helpful, even during a busy hour.

On a bustling Friday night, we waited about a 1.5 hours for our names to be called--note: they don't take advance resies, you must walk up and enter your name in the digital wait list. I didn't mind. It was just enough time to get a light first dinner before our actual dinner. Yes, we are the type of people who have two dinners. :D Once the staff texted us, we were in skewer heaven, grabbing everything that looked appealing from the glorious aisle of see-through fridges. At $1.20 per skewer, how could you resist...anything? My favorite items were the A5 wagyu brisket, black pepper wagyu and Chinese cauliflower. Most items were un-marinated, but they provide plenty of powdered seasonings to spice things up (five spice, cumin, Szechuan spice, etc.). We also got a couple of apps, but I'd skip them. None of them were remarkable, though the wagyu rice was a nice carb base. The set-up is hobbit-friendly fun with short chairs low to the ground and a well-designed double-stack of metal rods over the grill itself to allow you to both grill and "rest" your skewered food. They even have a helpful placard with suggested cooking times per item type. At the end of your meal, the staff manually count the number of skewers in your trash bin to calculate your total bill. One note: Beware of double skewers used to hold items like abalone and chicken wing. While likely necessary, the items would therefore be double the price. However, since this is opening month for the Chubby Restaurant Group, everyone was feeling all kinds of generous when we dined. We got 30% off our drinks because apparently all alky is 30% off after 9pm. And the staff decided our 58 skewers counted as 50 skewers. So I'm not complaining. All in all, I've spent way more and had way less fun when it comes to making my clothes and hair smell like smoke. Will be back.

Yelp
Great vibe and food. All the skewers good quality fatty and juicy! Such cute place. make sure wear shorts!

Yelp
I'm so glad I found Chubby Skewers -- easily one of my new favorite spots in the city! This is a DIY Chinese-style BBQ place where you get your own little grill at the table and cook your own skewers. It's super fun and perfect for group dinners or casual dates. The vibe is laid-back, clean, and gives off total late-night street food energy -- in the best way. Prices are very fair for Manhattan -- around $30-40 per person, depending on how much you order. Portions are solid, and there's no rush while you grill and eat at your own pace.

Yelp
great food, drinks, and environment when you walk in it's a nice vibe followed by little seats and a grill. You Pick the skewers from the refrigerator and you can order other Dishes. Drinks are smooth as well.

Yelp
Possible 4.5 due to how how the venue can get. Food was great. Each skewer is $1.30 so I would not say it is expensive. I ate a lot and the seasoning they provided was good. One complaint is that if you sit in the back, it is really hot and they really packed the space so the number of ppl and ventilation will be an issue

Yelp
I'm conflicted because I've had a previous dinner here before that I enjoyed. We noticed there was a 30% off special if you are seated after 12am (see pictures for reference). Last night, we decided to go check it out. Before making the journey to the restaurant, we called several times to try to confirm the deal. No one picked up- we took a chance and went anyway. Arrived at 11:55pm and was told they stopped seating customers. I questioned the sign- it said seated after 12am. Was told their policy is to stop seating an hour before closing. We left the restaurant (see picture, time on phone was 12:04am after leaving the restaurant). Please be clear online and on your signs of your policies as it is very deceitful to advertise one thing and do another.

Yelp
Chubby had been on our radar to try for a while and we finally had the opportunity to come! We came basically right when it opened on a Sunday, but it was quite packed by the time we left. It can be a bit chaotic to grab the skewers depending on how busy it is (and how many people are new customers lol) but the concept is fun and the skewers were good. We really enjoyed the pork belly and the duck tongue was fun and unique! As with most BBQ experiences, we left smelling like grilled meat.. so keep in mind if you have plans after!

Yelp
I'm so tired of places being overhyped on social media - this is one of those overhyped places. I came once prior and there was a wait of about an hour - meanwhile theres a sign that says to just walk in for bar seating. The staff handling seating and the wait are not very hospitable, you have to join the waitlist in person via a Yelp QR code despite there being seats at the bar and the sign. I was on the waitlist and had my entire meal at Kajiken nearby and was done by the time I got the text to go back here. I should've took it as a sign from God not to come back but my friend took a late bus in from DC and I thought we could try since it was open later and close by. I got there earlier and went to go check if there was a wait. I verbatim asked "Is there a wait for 2?" She goes "We only seat full parties" Did I ask?? I asked if there was a wait, not if they seated full parties. There was no wait at 10pm on a rainy Thursday and it was reasonably full - I randomly bumped into the friend I had originally been with the first time I tried dining here, and they also did not have a good time. The pricing here is all out wack and misleading. They advertise $1 skewers online and in the restaurant but it's actually $1.30 per skewer unless you buy a $58 membership on the spot, which they try to push on you after being seated. Why would I buy a membership if I haven't tried the service yet? Then there's an undisclosed "seasoning charge" of 99 cents per person which obviously isn't a lot but I didn't use any of the seasonings that they provide at each table. They charge you regardless. Lastly, the waiter told me to "don't forget to tip" and I only realized after that I don't know what I'm tipping for. I got my own water, skewers, and cooked it myself so what exactly am I tipping for? The waiter counted my skewers at the end, so for that? Am I subsidizing their costs of running the restaurant? Honestly it's pretty ridiculous. First of all, why are all the seats so low? There's barely any space to maneuver between tables and if you're over 5'9, good lucky being comfortable. The actual table that "seats 4" can honestly only fit 1.5 people on each side of the table. It's very cramped and there's no table space. Secondly, it's basically self service - you get your own water and have to walk into a narrow aisle with fridges on both sides. If one fridge door is open, the other sides can't open so you basically have to wait in a line until the people in front of you picks their skewers. The spice selection is messy and unhygienic - the spoons just fall into each spice and I didn't even bother. Why is it called Chubby Skewers when each skewer is honestly tiny? Some have 2 skewers attached to each item for "higher value" items. You then cook each skewer and they have a cooking time chart and that's basically it. Everything is reasonably tasty after being grilled although valuing the beef and other proteins the same as a broccoli doesn't really make sense to me. It's a little frustrating to have to wait for each skewer to cook considering they all have different cook times and the grill doesn't fit more than 8 skewers, some of which the protein falls off the skewers from being improperly placed. I will definitely not be back. Not worth it in any way - go get yourself some tacos or better yet, go to Ktown.

Yelp
If you want the charm of a local outdoor restaurant, but want the luxury of AC, come to this restaurant early to put your name on a wait-list for 2 hours and get ready to squat on low chairs and bbq some skewers you grab yourself. Watch out for how many skewers are in the items you pick! They charge by number of skewers you eat, and the toast has 2! Very expensive bread! The shrimp also has 2 skewers. If you are a chubby cattle member, then you can get a discount per skewer and get points for other freebies. There's a lot of spices here which are good for especially lamb. My favorite skewers were probably the beef tendon, chicken skin, A5 wagyu finger meat, scallops, and definitely not the toast. Everything is very high quality and it's self serve.

Yelp
This is a perfect date night spot. The only downside is there is always a wait. However if you go on a weeknight after 9pm the wait tends to be pretty quick. They offer a wide variety of skewers including beef, pork, chicken, seafood, and vegetables and even pineapple. The drinks are not too bad either - I enjoyed their peach milk tea. I really like the ambiance as it feels super homey when you are sitting in the plush red seats and close to the ground. They even have a little basket for your personal items. There are pretty neon lights everywhere. And we did not feel rushed eating. Overall really enjoy the place and for the price of the skewers it's worth it! They are also open late.

Yelp
We tried this place and it was very cute. Small and short tables and chairs feels like youre having a hangout outdoors. Servers are friendly and some skewers are 2 sticks instead of one since they count skewers. Shrimps and beefs were nice, they have broccli and cauliflower we love. You scan QR code to order additional cooked items like noodles or drinks i tried the snow beer. They have beer tower as well. Overall a good time and love the powder spices.

Yelp
The place was packed even on a week night. After we were seated, we just waited for some one to guide us with the process! The seating was pretty uncomfortable, too low to fit your legs anywhere! We ordered a couple of sides, one noodles dish and one with veggies. We then went to pick our skewers for the kababs. I was shocked to see how little meat was on the skewers...They were anything but chubby! So little meat, it made it hard to season them. Also, the area is super congested and with the number of people, the fridge remains open pretty much all the time. It made me wonder about the temperature of the meat. After grilling about 10 skewers, I just gave up. Too much effort for very little food, kind of unevenly cooked. The sides were amazing though. The noodles had a nice chewy texture and spicy zing. The veggies were crisp and tasty. Overall the experience was interesting.

Yelp
Fun vibe inside. The seating and decor is unique and I enjoyed it. Seating is not very comfortable though for older people or people with height above 5' 7" though because it's very low to the ground. Tastiest things were the Instant noodle stir fry and the Northeastern salad which you order from the kitchen by scanning QR code. The skewers themselves I found to be not very chubby and rather quite skinny for the price. I found the skewers more tedious than korean barbecue because some of the things cook very fast. I'd definitely go back but I'm inclined to order more from the kitchen rather than deal with the effort of cooking and seasoning all the mini skewers for me personally.

Yelp
Super solid Chinese skewers place. Love the self service system. Foods are mostly fresh and the spices are tasty and authentic. Just wish they have more spice/sauce options. Service was okay. Maybe it's the fact that they expect you to mainly serve yourself so it wasn't super responsive and quick. I went with my mom from China and she told me there are tons of Chubby Skewers stores in China too which is a green flag?
google avatar

Jennie C.

Yelp
this place is so hyped on social media but it was just okay imo. the space is really small and you get tired walking up and down the stairs to get more skewers- if you are sitting up stairs. it's all basically self serve but they still charge normal gratuity prices like every other restaurant each skewer is like over a dollar too (i think they increased the price to $1.3 each) so it adds up if you are hungry. they also try to sell u on this "membership" which is an absolute scam unless you eat 100s of skewers -- nice for a big group. however i do like being able to try everything in small amounts. also the fridge area is so small and during busy times it is so cramped when other patrons are also there. very uncomfortable. lastly the ventilation is not great and my eyes were tearing up and the seats so close to the ground that i could not sit comfortably will probably not be coming back!!
google avatar

Solarei S.

Yelp
Food tasted good but very small in portions. Each skewer is $1.20, but only has like 3-4 chunks of meat. Takes a while to cook them, flame is not strong enough. Their stools are also very low to the ground. If you are tall, you'll have a hard time finding a comfortable position to sit in. Not the best cost for worth ratio, on the lower end. Good for a fun experience, not for a filling meal.
google avatar

Jamie I.

Yelp
A great spot for skewer lovers, with a wide variety of options at just $1.20 each, from wagyu to poultry to seafood. Their main appeal is the wagyu beef, which was rich and meaty, with a great smoky flavor from the grill. I also enjoyed the beef tongue, tendons, and pork belly. And while it may feel questionable, don't overlook the vegetarian options; I really enjoyed the pineapple, fishcake, and mushroom skewers as well. While the food was fantastic, here are a few things to consider. If you're squeamish about raw meat contamination, this place might not be for you, since things can get messy. Also, as of my visit, there was no alcohol available, which I would have loved to pair with grilled food like this. It's also a bit hard to dip the skewers in the sauce plates they provide, since the meat is in the middle of your skewer and the plates have high edges; you'd have to either take the meat off the skewer or sprinkle the seasoning on directly. The shop is mostly self service; you choose skewers on the bottom floor and find seating at the top. At the end, they count how many skewers you've eaten for your bill. The tables are eastern style and very low, which I was fine with but could be difficult if unaccustomed to. Good ambiance for a party, although you can only fit about 9 skewers onto a grill at a time, and my party of 3 already had a full grill working at all times to keep up with our appetite.

Yelp
I've really been enjoying Chubby Skewers--so much so that I went three times during their soft opening week! It's a fun and customizable dining experience, and I love the novelty of cooking my own food. That said, there are a few things to know before you go. Wait Time & Entry: This place has blown up on social media, and the line reflects that. You have to go in person to put your name down on the Yelp waitlist, and the wait can be anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, sometimes longer during peak hours. Plan accordingly. Pricing & Membership Confusion: A common misconception is that the skewers are $1 due to their marketing strategy--but actually, they're $1.20 each. You only get the $1 rate if you sign up for their $28 annual membership (for that location only). They also offer a pricier membership (around $100 annually) that gives discounts across their other locations. Food & Experience: The skewers are self-serve and located on the first floor, so if you're seated upstairs, be ready for some cardio. The sizes of the skewers vary even for the same item, so pick carefully to get the most for your money. Some items (shrimp, scallops, wings) count as two skewers. Water is mostly self-serve. For bobas, teas, noodles, and sides, you order via the QR code on the table. Prices are okay, but during my visits, I either didn't get the items at all or they arrived after my meal was nearly done. Be warned--it gets smoky inside, especially when the exhaust isn't on (which seems to be often). Not a dealbreaker, but something to be aware of. As of now, they do not have a liquor license, so don't expect to pair your skewers with beer or soju just yet. The music they play is better than the selection at most nearby Asian clubs. Overall, I'd definitely come back despite long waits, slight inconsistencies, and a bit of smoke. If you manage your expectations, it's a fun spot worth checking out.

Yelp
Not bad. Lots of choices. Fun selections. Enjoy with friends or date. Yummy options. Just be careful. It's hot!

Yelp
Super cute vibe reminiscent of camping! The skewers are self serve and self-grill and each table has extra seasoning. Service was very attentive and our server gave us little tips and tricks to grilling the skewers the best way. Will definitely return again for a fun dinner with friends.

Yelp
I went and tried this out as a post (blackpink) concert meal, and I wasn't too impressed by the food. Some of the meat was super tender and delicious, but others were just alright. I don't like how the dips are all dry, would appreciate some wet dips. I got the egg & tofu cold dish which I dipped my skewers into. It was super hot and stuffy which wasn't ideal for the weather which was humid and super hot. The seats are really low to the ground and are a bit uncomfortable. The service was meh at first, but then we got a new server and he was so sweet & asked about the concert!

Chelsea D.

Yelp
Cool concept, but a scam for the price tbh. Barely any meat on each of the skewers - wagyu pieces smaller than a size of a dime. Came hungry, left hungry. We ended up getting Korean BBQ in Koreatown afterwards. Service was okay. Our server miscounted the amount of skewers and we were charged the wrong amount, so I flagged another server down to correct the number of skewers consumed. The ambiance is a redeeming quality. It looks really great inside. The only flaw is that because it was self-service, the line to get to the freezers was long, and there was barely any room to move around. My husband and I kept bumping into people. It was fun to check out, but I probably won't go back.
google avatar

Kayla Y.

Yelp
We loved the set up of this place! It was super cute and camp-like. Honest tho the space is a *bit* tight when it's busy and there's always people getting skewers to cook. The process of cooking was super fun and different especially since we can pick the spices we wanted on it. There wasn't a huge variety of meats and veggies and I think I expected more (like not even enoki mushroom!). The ordered food (scallops and enoki) were super tasty tho! We ended up eating 78 skewers for 3 people and it totaled being $50 pp with tax and tip!

Yelp
What a fun dinning experience! Can't wait to bring more friends here. They have a variety of skewers that you can choose from and cook yourself and they also have a pretty extensive menu for side dishes and drinks. Service was really friendly and attentive and the decor is pretty trendy.

Yelp
This is our review. We've gone to plenty of places that had good and bad reviews and thought the total opposite of the review. We came here on a Wednesday early, which was good because it got packed quickly. Honestly, we think this place is overrated. The amount of meat you get on one skewer, which is $1.20, is small. Also, some of the other items had double skewers, which means you're paying $2.40 each. If you want the dollar skewers, it looks like you have to pay for a membership, so they get you there unless you are a regular. One other thing that was annoying was we went with a party of six and cooking the food on the small grill was ridiculous and there should've been two grills to make it more enjoyable. It wasn't our thing, but maybe it'll be yours, but we feel it's just all hype right now.

Yelp
Really cool concept. Good prices. Nice staff. However, most drink options were unavailable. The space gets SUPER smoky. And they forgot one of our dishes. We asked for it again and it never came. Then it was on our bill.

Yelp
Authentic grill-it-yourself skewer spot in the style of skewer spots you'll find in Northern China (though unfortunately with the same level of discomfort that comes with weak air conditioning and overcrowded table layout). The key attraction here is their beef and lamb skewers but they have plenty of options for seafood lovers, including scallops and abalone. Vegetarians will find less variety but there's still enough to make up a meal. There's a decent drinks menu here too and the heat will make you want to keep those cold beers coming.

Yelp
Ambiance (4/5) - Feels like a kbbq spot but different since the dining spots are lower to the ground. There's a portable grilling option by the bar but you want the real experience with the grill. The optimal space is on the lower floor because the upper floor requires the stairs for the refills which can be annoying. They funnel the piping for the gas through the floor but it gets in the way when you walk so it is very dangerous and tight upstairs trying to jump over the pipes and other people dining. Service (5/5): There wasn't much service required in this experience except for the beginning and end. A tablet is provided to you to order beverages and hot to order plates. Then the server explains how the dining experience works. Concept: Diners serve themselves by entering in queue to pick the $1.20 skewers that they want to grill at the refrigerators. The unfortunate part is that if there's someone holding up the line, it get's really backed up. It would be nice if there were two different queues. Then there's a sauce station at the end where we dumped a handful into the dish where we later used to liberally season our meats before hitting the grill. Certain meats (like seafood) are worth two kebob sticks. There are gloves that you could use to handle the sticks because they are definitely not sanitary while most people were not. I found it kind of gross that we ended up not using them and cross contaminating everything. No one got sick so it was fine. The high heat seared the meats fairly quickly and evenly. We also ordered a wagyu fried rice which had a small helping of the beef and then it was just a really oily standard fried rice that was not worth ordering (small portion for $12). The 2 of us ended up putting down 38 skewers! Some of the wagyu pieces were good but it wasn't the highest quality to that of kbbq. It was fun to try all the variety! Food overall (3/5) Overall, it was a fun experience to try and more bang for your buck than your standard kbbq experience.

Yelp
Most of the food was good. The scallop shell with noodles was great. Unfortunately, the biggest issue is the size of the skewers. They are so small and skinny (mainly the meats) this place should not be called CHUBBY skewers. Also, each table has a spotlight that you shine onto the grill so that you can monitor the cooking of the food. (There's a large vent that is above the grill so it blocks out most of the ceiling lights.) Our table's spotlight did not work, so we had a tough time monitoring the cooking of the meats. When asked about the spotlight issue, the manager said there's nothing they could do, and didn't even offer us any compensation.

Yelp
We came here as a group of 3. We were seated fairly quickly. We didn't get any explanation of how things worked, which would have been helpful since it was our first time there. We went downstairs to grab the skewers to grill at our table. The lean wagyu and scallops were my favorite. Each skewer is $1.20 although the portion is small. The table space was a little cramped so it was a little hard to have enough space to separate out the cooked food from the trays of raw meat. The grill space is small as well, probably fits 9 skewers comfortably at a time so keep that in mind in terms of how many skewers you grab at a time. You can use the QR code to order other food. The spicy clam was delicious and it was actually my favorite dish there. It was the best value as well.

Yelp
Found this place while randomly Googling around places to eat near the hotel. This place is currently doing a soft opening. Decided to check it out while its light on traffic. Food is excellent with the meat choices. We grabbed maybe 30 waygu skewers of various cuts. Wish the mushroom had more than 3 pieces and if they added quail eggs to the lineup that would be awesome. Ordered the lychee fried shrimp thinking it might have a lychee in it like they do at dim sum but it was shaped like lychee. Still good tho. The bone broth soup accommodated the meats very well. We're visiting from Boston and will return on my next trip with some friends. Staff was excellent and came back to check on us multiple times and everyone is friendly.

Yelp
Mad bread for such tiny skewers. Price were misleading, and eventually had to pay much than expected.

Yelp
The service is attentive and quick! We were served immediately after ordering and our server helped explain the process. The skewers are self serviced so you can really pick and choose what you want to eat. Highly recommend if you want a place to have skewers!

Yelp
Great vibes! Skewers are pretty small, but plenty of options and fun to grill yourself. Scallops are great!

Yelp
Went on a Tuesday after work around 5:30 PM. There was a long line of people waiting out the door for tables but if you're just one person and you don't mind if they cook the skewers for you instead of cooking yourself, you can ask to sit at the bar. I ended up waiting about 20 minutes as a single person sitting at the bar. When you walk in, there's a line of fridges where you can pick your skewers and then you take them to your table or the bar seat. If at a table, I think you cook them yourselves if at the bar they cook them for you and then bring them back on a warming grill. They also have a large menu of drinks and premade foods from the kitchen that you can order through a QR code. I tried the lychee shrimp balls that were fried and I don't think there's actually lychee in them, they just are fried to look like lychee fruit. Dipped in spicy mayo they're good and a fair price of $8 for seven of them. They taste like your normal dim sum with an elevated look. Honestly, I would come here even just for the skewers but they have a large menu of drinks and kitchen food that looks good too. Wish they had sesame oil available. For now, they have only soy sauce, salt, sugar, fresh garlic. Skewers are $1.20 each even though they advertise $1 each - that's only with the membership you have to pay for through their partner app. Bartender was super nice and patient with all my questions and refilled my water every few minutes - staff very attentive.

Yelp
A little grace because it's their soft opening - it's a cool concept, and a fun vibe inside but that's about it. They need to work on their reservation system, it's integrated with Yelp but you're not able to see your place (took us 1.5 hours to get a table) 40 mins in line to put our name down and then 45 mins waiting for the text. When we got in at ~840, they had already sold out of most of their seafood (scallop, abalone, squid) which was pretty disappointing. Another surprise is that some items are actually worth 2x since they have two skewers, so shrimp and ribs will cost more. Overall, it could be a fun concept but fairly expensive to still leave the restaurant hungry and unable to try a lot of variety.

Yelp
Great place. First time trying it with my friends and we had a lot of fun. Atmosphere was great, good music and good quality food and great service. A fun experience for us as a large group. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Skewers were really great. Affordable. Legitimately 3 people we got like 60 skewers. Good vibes. A little hot. Sit on the first floor better access to the skewers. There's a lady over here at the table next to us with so many labubus. So many labubus

Yelp
TL;DR: would come here again! PROS: flavorful dry Chinese spice (4: dry dip spice, cumin, chili powder, & sesame seeds), Tender wagyu meat, small pieces cook quickly CONS: pieces can be a bit bigger, could have more variety of meats/veggies, could have more variety of spices/sauces, seating is low to the ground & a bit tight PROCESS: Grab & grill your own skewers (meats & some veggies); QR code or order from a person some veggies & drinks PRICE: $1.2/skewer non-member, $1/skewer member AMBIANCE: I liked the rave headbanger music SERVICE: Ming was great & attentive

Yelp
The waiters are friendly and attentive, offering tip on how to cook the skewers. It was a fun experience and we can pick as much skewers we like for $1.20 per skewer or $1 per skewers for members. The atmosphere is quite cool with the concept.

Yelp
My wife and I love this fun restaurant. You can pick different skewers from the buffet area and cook them at your own table. Everything is French and delicious. It is now become one of our go to restaurants whenever we are close to midtown.

Yelp
Food was good! It's our first time here so we sort of don't know how things work around here. Love how nice and attentive our server too! Definitely coming back
