Study Ranks the World's Best Airports

"The main international gateway for central Japan, Centrair Nagoya received a five-star regional rating from Skytrax in February 2018. (Out of all airports serving between 10 and 20 million passengers a year, Chubu Centrair Nagoya ranks first.) After Haneda, it is also the world's cleanest airport, and ranks eighth for baggage delivery."

Despite the gloomy weather, I really enjoyed my time at Chubu Centrair International Airport. The Sky Deck observation area is spacious and offers a great view of the runway—perfect for plane spotting or just taking a relaxing walk. The airport itself is clean and well-organized, with plenty of restaurants and shops to explore. I also loved the fun touches like the ninja figure inside the terminal—it added a bit of charm and made the experience even more memorable. Definitely worth a visit whether you're flying out or just passing through!

Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO) is one of the most pleasant and efficient airports I’ve ever experienced. From the moment you arrive, everything feels well-organized and thoughtfully designed. The airport is clean, spacious, and easy to navigate, with clear signs in English, Japanese, and other languages. Immigration and baggage claim are usually quick and hassle-free. One standout feature is the Flight of Dreams attraction featuring the Boeing 787 Dreamliner — a unique and interactive space that’s great for families and aviation fans alike. The Sky Town shopping and dining area is also impressive, offering a wide variety of Japanese and international food at reasonable prices. Overall, Centrair feels more like a travel destination than just a stopover.

Chubu Centrair International Airport is one of the best airports I’ve been to! It’s immaculately clean, spacious, and easy to navigate. The car rental signs are super clear, making it quick and simple to pick up a vehicle, which is always a huge plus. For families, the FLIGHT OF DREAMS is a fantastic free attraction. It’s an interactive experience centered around a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, with loads of hands-on exhibits that are perfect for kids. My child had a blast pretending to be a pilot and learning about aviation! The airport itself has plenty of seating, charging stations, and a great selection of restaurants and shops. Overall, it’s a top-tier experience for both adults and kids. Highly recommend it!

This is an airport for Nagoya, one of Japan's major cities. It's convenient because you can reach the airport from Nagoya Station within 30 minutes by high-speed train. There's also a slower local train that will get you to Nagoya Station within an hour. The airport, typical of Japanese airports, is clean and well-organized. There are many seats and plenty of shops where you can purchase various goods. There's also an Issey Miyake store, which is popular among Koreans, and many other luxury brand stores. Overall, it's an excellent airport.

Japan is the last place where you’ll experience such politeness, cleanliness, and beauty all at once. The moment you board your plane and leave, you’ll start missing everything about it—the orderly streets, the respectful bow of a shopkeeper, the spotless train stations, and even the quiet efficiency of daily life. Whether it's the convenience of vending machines on every corner, the precision of the bullet trains, or the warm hospitality of its people, Japan leaves a lasting impression. Once you’ve been there, nowhere else quite measures up.

Love the design at this airport. They use Ninja & Samurai in all signage. On the departure hall, there are tax free shops and many restaurants especially the famous ones. The shrimp chips shop (senbei) is also on this floor. The observatory deck is super nice - recommend when the sun sets. Love the public bath at this airport as well. 1000¥ with indoor hot bathing and out door for seeing the aircraft.

I prefer going to Nagoya over Tokyo. The airport is not very big. It doesn't take long to clear immigration. It's crowded, but not overcrowded. The subway and bus systems are not very complicated. It doesn't take long to understand how to use them. There is a train from the airport to the city, and then you can take a bus to other cities. It's very convenient. Nagoya is a ninja city. You can see it even at the airport.

Chubu Centrair International Airport (Centrair) is built on an artificial island in Ise Bay, off the coast of Tokoname City in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The island was created by building seawalls and reclaiming land. Nice, Quiet, Peaceful Airport

Yelp
UPDATED REVEW- DEPARTURES Not impressed! At. All. I have generally had poor experiences at Japanese airports. I don't know if it is the volume of travelers to the lack of physical space, but my experiences have all sucked. Poorly run departure options in terms of duty-free shopping. Lines move very slowly and I had to forego a coffee after getting up at 5:00 a.m to catch a flight to Taipei because there was 1 person on Starbucks (only choice) who moved slower than molasses. 25 minutes in line?! Duty free confectionery store was chaotic, poorly run and a nightmare. Long lines, crowded and small given the volume and a madhouse of overzealous shoppers on their way home from Japan. The train stations in Japan are incredible, yet the airports at Kansai, Chubu and Kyushu (Hakata) are a real pain in the rear.

Yelp
Don't buy food and drink outside because there's a lot of shops and restaurants inside plus a food court.

Yelp
My favorite airport in the whole world!! It's somewhat newly renovated. It is relatively small and easy to navigate. You don't have to go here and there like Narita Airport...all in one area. I love shopping here too. They have general Japanese and Nagoya souvenir stores on the third floor before security and some more on the fourth floor....my favorite being "Ebisen no Sato" (shrimp chips). You can sample almost all the flavors. There are some famous Nagoya food places on the 4th floor as well. People at security is very nice too. Once you are inside, there are not too many stores. Maybe a duty free store and a couple souvenir shops and a Starbucks. You just go right or left for your gate after immigration. There are no trains or anything. There are never lots of people except maybe certain holiday seasons, and especially I don't get pushed around by Chinese people here.

Yelp
A great airport to kill several hours. Being the nervous traveler that I am I like to be at the airport at least 3 hours prior to departure. But, since this is in a foreign country and out of my comfort zone, I made my family arrive 4 hours prior to departure. JAL counter wasn't even open yet. But not to fret, there is much to see/do here. Head on up to the top floor (Sky Town) and shop and dine to your heart's content. We had a nice meal, then went back down to check our bags, then went shopping. There is also an ONSEN at the airport. What a nice way to end your trip, relaxed from a hot bath. All in all, a fantastic well planned out airport.

Yelp
My favorite Airport, easy, relaxed, well organized. I've stayed overnight here on multiple occasions prior to early morning departures. Only downside is not much evening activity. Everything closes down pretty early and it becomes secluded. The Lawsons on 1st floor is open 24hours.

Yelp
NGO is a nice little international airport located outskirts of Nagoya. There are many gates but only three or four are in use. ANA, Delta, China eastern, Korean, and LCC have strong presence here, meaning they have a few regular scheduled flights. This airport is used as a community center for indigenous population. Last time I was here there were a large group of costumed young / semi-young peeps walking around for some kind of convention. Also there was a farmers market in the middle of food arcade area. Cool huh? Building is generously built with plenty of room for expansion. Sadly I don't see NGO as major hub today or future, hence I am worried my beloved Delta might scrap DFW-NGO soon (which is very significant route, as it connects the two major automobile cities..) Access to the airport is via Meitetsu Mu line, bus, taxi, or private vehicle. This is very flawless airport with many good restaurants, shops, huge deck, and community bath. It's great concept and executed well, except the location choice was so wrong. Quality is by far the best compare to the ghetto NRT.

Yelp
About as good as it gets for an airport. As with most places in Japan the people are very friendly and helpful. The selection for food and gifts are fantastic. The prices are high, but it is an airport. You don't go here looking for deals they have a captive audience and they know it.

Yelp
NGO is a little airport, have Muji,Unique, and some makeup shops. Compared to the airport in Tokyo, this airport seems simple. Foreigners like to buy some gifts, like chocolate, and the price is cheaper than downtown.

Yelp
This is a big airport yet so quiet. Airport personnels are pleasant and courteous. The Meitetsu railway station is conveniently located inside the airport for a quick and inexpensive transportation to central Nagoya. There's a bathhouse located on the top floor for visitors relaxation and convenience. Their mall section offers various retailers and gift shop. If you don't know what to buy for your friends and family, try a shrimp crackers shop located near the 2nd floor landing of furtherest escalator.

Yelp
this is Nagoya's main airport. its called centrair(SENTOREA) this is really convenience airport, cause there are Meitetsu station (Meitethsu is Nagoya's railway) it takes about 60minutes from Nagoya station to centrair and they have lots of store, food, gift, souvenir, relaxation, mobile phone, and more. when you are travelling, if you didnt have any items even the bags you can get it in this airport. and this staff is really nice, when i was late my departing time they arranged, and they provided another seat for free to me. can you guess what did they say at that time. (i said sorry,i was late) no,i appreciate that you were in a hurry, thank you,but we're soory,we couldn't wait for you,so if you didn't mind please use next flight. oh my good what a kindness they are!

Yelp
Unfortunately we had to rush through this airport as we were connecting from Okinawa to Detroit. The walk from our deplaning gate to the check in counter was looong, but they have the moving walkways to help with that. We switched from ANA to Delta which would have been a smooth transfer even with checking in again, but there was some issue with getting a bassinet for the wall for my 1 year old(even though we saw a copy of the request we placed at the time of our booking sitting on the desk when we arrived). While we waited for them to sort out whatever they were sorting out, I walked around and saw the listings for the shops and restaurants that I could see on the upper levels. I so wanted to eat here! I also saw the big shopping area with several nice stores bustling with shoppers. Going through security was a breeze, but immigration was a bit of a wait since only one line was open(this was at around 7pm). They did open another counter after the line grew some more. By our gate(Delta) there was a play place to wear the kids out before that long haul across the ocean. More importantly(that's debatable) there was a snack bar/quick service restaurant advertising some AMAZING looking ramen. I wish we'd had more time to enjoy this place, but I really loved what I saw.
