What Delivery-Only and Ghost Kitchens Mean for the Future of Restaurants | Eater

"A national chain that has rolled out its own delivery-only virtual brands and related off-premise strategies, relying on local restaurant sites to distribute app-ordered food and experimenting with ghost kitchens to streamline delivery operations. The approach aims to drive new revenue from delivery but raises concerns about transparency for customers and increased workload for employees managing several concepts from one kitchen." - Amanda Kludt

My children had a blast, and the pizza was great — no complaints there. However, I did have a very disappointing experience with the salad bar and one of the employees, Ricardo. We’ve been here for a little over two hours, and the salad bar has not been refreshed during that time. The lettuce, spinach, carrots, and tomatoes all looked old and unappetizing. I asked for fresh lettuce twice. The first time, Ricardo seemed visibly annoyed, apparently because I hadn’t taken any of the spinach, which was clearly past its prime. He took the old and new spinach to the back, then returned and simply placed the fresh spinach on top of the old batch. I said “thank you” twice, and he ignored me both times. The second time, I asked a young lady if she could help. She went to speak with Ricardo, and I overheard him make a comment that made her laugh, after which she told me I would “have to wait for Ricardo.” I waited more than three minutes. He eventually came out, switched the bowls (finally removing the old spinach), and walked away without a word or any acknowledgment. Ricardo’s behavior was unprofessional and rude. Basic customer service was completely lacking. I strongly suggest he receive training in that area.

I have never seen an employee work so hard that has so many hats. This man named David was really the reason our time was so great. He was at the front helping customers, in the back helping the cook, out in the play area making sure things were great. I usually go to Plano or dallas. This was an all around good experience.

We recently hosted a birthday party for our child and overall had a good time. However, the venue was extremely crowded, making it difficult to move around. For future events, it would be helpful if a private space could be designated for birthday parties to create a more enjoyable experience. We’d like to give a special thank you to David, the assistant manager, he was incredibly helpful and kind throughout the event, and we truly appreciated his support. On the other hand, Chucke was very depressed and with no energy. What happened to all the energy? Also a staff came in smelling like weed. Not the place to do your thing. One of staff member assisting in the gift area (I prefer not to name her) appeared visibly frustrated, rolling her eyes and holding her head in a way that made us and our guests feel uncomfortable. While we understand that things can get hectic, it's important that all team members maintain a welcoming attitude. Some basic customer service training focused on working with children and families could really go a long way.

Be prepared to spend $11 per pair of "special" Chuck E Cheese socks to get in the play area. My daughter had her birthday party here and they wouldn't even let her in the play areas even with the special socks because they said she was too tall. They don't want you taking pictures with your phone because "they take a picture at the end". So many rules; so little fun. Won't be back here.

The staff here is always friendly. I've noticed games that are out of order get repaired and back in service quickly as well. The salad bar is great, and the pizza is better more times than not. I'm not a fan of the new play zone, would have preferred if that space held more games for the kids to play.

Google
Great experience! We purchased the season pass, well worth it, the kids had a great time. The pizza is delicious dare I say!

Google
The manager David made our experience one of the best our family has ever had at any children’s entertainment place. We came in just to check it out, and David personally gave us a tour of the entire place, explained how all the games and play area works, and walked us through the menu and ordering process. We got the kids a simple 30 minute play card, recommend by David, and they had so much fun. While the kids played, David talked to us about the birthday party packages and showed us how the party tables were set up and how the ticket blaster works. I am so happy with our experience and loved how attentive and knowledgeable David was. I can’t wait to bring the kids back and I will be requesting David as our party host in December!

Yelp
Chuck E. Cheese: Where pizza tastes like it was made by a mouse (oh wait, it kinda is). I've been here more times than I can count, usually with a swarm of kids in tow. The pizza might be a tad overpriced for what it is, but hey, at least it's a refuge from the scorching sun. The game card is where the real magic happens - 60 minutes of unlimited play? Sign me up! Although, I must say, the thrill of Chuck E. throwing tickets into the air has been replaced by a game card and a mouse busting a move on the dance floor. The staff, bless their souls, have the patience of saints dealing with indecisive kiddos picking their prizes. And kudos to them, the place is always squeaky clean not a mouse poop dropping in sight See you this summer!

Yelp
My son has autism and he loves Chuck E. Cheese so much thank you guys for a wonderful place!!!

Yelp
Staff is unorganized and had one station open with a line of 20 people. Thst person didn't know whst she was.doing. Then they had the Chucky cheese voice come out for only for paid birthdays. Instead of any physical separation they expect rhe kids to stay away from. The chucky cheese dance area leaving a lot of kids crying. TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT. WE WONT COME BACK. THE most incompetent staff I have ever seen. God help them if there was a fire the way the block off the entrance / exit.

Yelp
We just left a birthday party at the Rockwall location. I was allowed to walk out with my baby (infant) without being checked at all. 2 employees were standing at the entrance, one was marking the party entering but the other employee was not doing anything and still didn't check me. This is very worrisome that anyone could've walked out with child/baby without being checked.  The employees absolutely need to be trained on the importance of this act.  Won't be back.

Yelp
Worst location ever!! The manager & employees are rude. Tables are dirty!! I felt so unwelcome and ignored!!

Nicole M.

Yelp
If I could give this location zero stars I would. we have been twice and each time off of the staff have been extremely rude. Katherine is very unpleasant. she continued to roll her eyes at me at any question I asked and would just stare at me instead of answering. for a kids place, it's nothing close to friendly.

maricela r.

Yelp
If I could give 0 stars I would!! I had my daughters 2nd birthday yesterday and the service was awful. I felt like I missed half the party going to get the waitress because she kept going to the back and would barely come to the table. We were the only party there. I was picking up plates and trash. They missed up a couple of orders. It was very disappointed I felt like a Karen complaining to the manager because I'm not that type of person. When I asked the manager if she can please provide more attention to the party the waitress had an attitude towards my husband and I. I paid almost 600$ for a terrible time.

Yelp
Rides are good but why the hell do we need a night for the trumber why now this stupid jumber is making me hate my hight u need to fix this

Olin C.

Yelp
I went here awhile back, not dirty at all I've been to this location a lot in the past and it has always been clean. I thought I would get sick after this I did not. uh I did not use the bathroom so I do not know the sanitation the only reason. however my sister went to go find chucke cheese and he gave her a look. my sister did not care and thought it was funny but very concerning.

Yelp
One of the cleaner, better ran and less crowded Chuck E Cheese locations you will find in the eastern DFW area. Run far away from either of the Garland stops, this Rockwall location of the chain is generally clean and easy to deal with, especially on weekdays. A favorite memory of mine here is the time we stopped by to see Chuck E but he had "gone to bed for the night". As my 3 year old burst into tears, a manager said he would go and see if he still might be awake, and 5 minutes later Chuck E came out just to greet my daughter and give her a hug. That really did mean a lot.

John W.

Yelp
Went today it was clean, all games were working great, staff was great. We had planned to eat there but it was so hot in there we couldn't stand it. We didn't get to use all the game play because it was so hot. Anywhere you go it's cold not sure why it's so hot here. We left drenched in sweat after only a little while.

Yelp
Our whole family loved it thanks to one of our hosts, Julissa!!! She was great at helping out with setting up and making sure everything was good. She was overall the best part of our experience and we would totally recommend and do it again with that host!

Jeff C.

Yelp
We had my daughters second birthday here and it was great! The restaurant was very clean. The staff was very nice and attentive and the pizza was good. The kids had a blast and our party attendant, Mackenzie was amazing! I would recommend this location for anyone looking to have a fun birthday party for their young kids.

Yelp
So sad what has happened to this location (and possibly others). While everything was clean and presentable, there just isn't much to this place anymore. Stage with animated show? GONE Fun dance area where kids can see themselves on camera? GONE Open play area with tunnels/tubes, etc? GONE. All that is left is a newly installed dance floor, arcade games & rides. It's basically a pizza restaurant now.

Yelp
We celebrated my son's Birthday last week the host, food was very good manager helped us out by filling up our air balloons my kids and family had so much fun they loved it but sad to say that only one thing I didn't like and this is why they are not getting 5 starts from me. When we were leaving the gentleman (kid) was not checking the stamps on our hands on our way out the stamps that they put on each person when you arrive and some other family member had my son and took him out of Chuck E. Cheese with no problem this guys at the door never checked for the numbers that were stamped so that really is not safe cause anyone can just go in and take your kid. I hope with this review Chuck E. Cheese really puts some one in the front that is well trained and more prepared this is serious.

Yelp
You just love it...or have to love it for your kids.. They have a good selection of games which 99% of the time work. Which is a huge improvement from years past. The food is alot better... Oh..if you get the chicken added to your salad..just skip it..it's old...dry..

Yelp
Threw my son his second party here in a row! Service was excellent as usual and the entire process was so easy. We ordered plenty of pizza and did a basic package for 8 kids and 40 adults but still only payed $130 total. I wanted to try something different but in the end I realized that Jesse LOVES this place! We had a 12 month countdown and I'm happy that we went with chick e cheese again. You just can't beat the prices and everyone has a great time.

Yelp
We held my nephews birthday party here this past Saturday, and everything went AMAZING! Our party coordinator Anna, (beautiful curly ginger hair) and she was the BEST, from the moment we walked in to the moment we left she made sure we had everything we needed, she answered all questions without hesitation. Help us set up our decorations, immediately took our drink and food order, and made sure the whole group felt taken care of. Highly recommend her, and this location!!!!

Yelp
I admit I'm not a huge fan of what we call "the rodent place". We were drawn here today because of the 5th birthday of one of our nephews. It was a Saturday afternoon in other words crazy at its peakness. The atmosphere is the chaos that one can imagine. I do like the fact that they stamp specific numbers into your arm that matches the numbers that are put onto the arms of your child so that you can "claim it" on the way out the door and prevent weirdos from walking out with someone else's little darling. I have never just come to "Rodentville" simply for the awesomeness of their over priced food it's always because of a birthday party of family or friends. As you probably already know the food is way overpriced for what you get. My mother-in-law was quite pleased with the salad bar at this particular location today. The pizzas wasn't anything special but it was hot and fresh. I'm assuming because of the fact they are focused toward the likes and dislikes of young humans that the food is a bit bland. Even though the place was best described as chaotic I must admit the place was cleaner than what anyone could expect. Even the bathrooms were clean! The next time we are forced to sit through another Rodent Party we would have no problem recommending that the torture be done at this particular location because there is good parking and a clear path to the door to get the hell out when your nerves are completely shot.

Yelp
Chuck E. Cheese is what it is. It's for kids, not for adults. The place feels dirty but that's probably because of how it smells. The games have been updated in the past year so that's good. The company switched from tokens to a card that is loaded with how much you want on the card. It is reusable. Overall, I try not to go to Chuck E. Cheese unless I absolutely have to!

Yelp
Absolutely outstanding service!!! outstanding customer relations!!! wonderful manager!!! great party hostess!!!!! The food quality at Chuck E. Cheese has gone through the roof!!! The sandwich platter was perfect, the vegetable ring excellent, all six pizzas we ordered were superb!!! The cake was wonderful very moist great chocolate flavor not too much icy spot on perfect!!! If we had any problems with any games it was resolved with much haste and the kids are well taken care of 4 adults and 7 children perfect evening!!!!

Yelp
Pros : All of the games except for one worked, the games are cheap - one playpoint each, and they have a lot of new games to play, free drink refills. Cons : The a/c must be broken bc it's super sweaty stuffy HOT in here right now, the pizza tastes terrible (think card board box) especially for the price they charge for it, taking away tokens and give game cards isn't a good change bc it's harder to control the rate of spending. I'd always give my son 10-15 tokens and he'd have to come back for more which made sure that he ate and that he didn't spend his money lightning fast. My nephew just went thru his card in a matter of minutes and that's not very much fun. Overall, a good review bc we all know chuck e cheese was notorious for being full of old games that didn't work so at least these games are newer and actually work. Nice surprise!

Yumilee W.

Yelp
Fun, clean, and staff nice/helpful. My GrandTwins enjoyed! I really like the the timed play!

Yelp
First of all, the pizza is tiny, expensive, and always undercooked. There's not much food for an adult unless you want tomane from the salad bar. The birthday situation is pretty pitiful. You are extremely rushed and they slack on the extras like bringing out Chuck E. They have a loose schedule but it's mostly a tool used to rush you. The price per child is also absurd as they must be making a huge profit because no effort is put into the experience. They also use a card system now and the kids complained because the games will charge you and not play. The manager is also extremely rude. I watched her actually slut shame a small child and tell her dads were watching? I guess she's aware child predators hang out here and she was warning them? Not sure, but it was bizarre. Save your money and have your child's birthday at shenaniganz down the road. It's less creepy and the tables aren't sticky.
google avatar

Jason J.

Yelp
It is what it is- a large building full of kids lol. Its not fancy or anything and certainly not cheap, BUT the adults can bribe the kiddos with a pocket full of tokens and let them run wild while we sit and eat/chat.. Easy way to make kiddos happy on their birthday with no planning or grief. Gave it 4 stars because the chuck e cheese in plano serves beer ( they may not anymore as its been a few years since i took kids there) and that always adds a star in my book!

Yelp
Came here for daughter birthday. Started off fine, staff isn't very helpful. A few of the games took credits but weren't working, told the staff and they were in no hurry to help me. Also the machine that prints out cards with your picture in them was printing the cards on the opposite side so you couldn't see the picture because they were inserted wrong.. Told the staff 2 times no effort was made to fix them or replace the wasted credit... Not very good customer service.

Camilla K.

Yelp
My daughter has swim practice nearby so I've been taking my 3-year-old son there 4 days/wk for a year now. The past few times the customer service was awful. We patiently waited for 10-15 mins for my son's lollipops while the worker was helping someone ahead of us just so he would walk away to another counter to help someone else who had just showed up. If another worker came out, he/she would just tell me to wait so they would go stand somewhere else doing nothing. I hated to walk my son out of there w/out his candy after waiting so long but we had to do that a few times now. The ethics is not there toward a female minority and a child at this place. Really, if I was a white male, would they have had the audacity to act that way? I'm not going back to spend $200/month consistently for a year now for this kind of service.

Anjelica H.

Yelp
I visited today with a very small birthday group (5 people). It was hard to find a clean table, staff was not very friendly, half of the games either did not work (with no out of order sign) or did not give tickets. The line to get prizes was way too long, we ended up leaving after waiting 30+ minutes. Prices are definitely out of hand.
google avatar

BK S.

Yelp
The pizza and wings was okay, but the gaming experience was not so great. The games were not giving out the correct amount of tickets or giving any at all. We had to ask twice for reimbursements. The tables were all dirty, so I cleaned ours so we could sit 5 adults and 1 child. They had one cashier and one ticket trader, everyone else was working birthday parties.
google avatar

Amy S.

Yelp
My girls love Chucky Cheese but we do not go often because the smell when you walk in the door is very overwhelming - almost like old urine. The staff is friendly and the pizza is ok, but the smell has to be dealt with. It is either in the carpet or in the cleaning supplies they use, but it's not a fresh clean scent by any means!
google avatar

Kim J.

Yelp
Great safe place to entertain your kids or grandkids! Reasonably priced and management tries to help the kids out by leaving tickets hanging out of machines for kids to take. Much more reasonable than Shenanigans for kids games.
google avatar

Wendy S.

Yelp
Tried to come here today to let my son play and we were turned down at the door because they were at maximum capacity. This is a little ridiculous if you ask me. I will make it a point to avoid this location from now on for sure.
google avatar

Ambur C.

Yelp
Great place to take the kids. Very friendly staff and always a good time. We go to chuck e cheese in rockwall at the 2 times a month and my 6 year old along with my 2 year old loves it. Very clean and safe environment. I wouldn't give it five stars only because the food isn't that great. Overall very pleased!
google avatar

Jon C.

Yelp
You have to give this place 4, just because the kids like it. Nothing great, but it has decent service. The kids can run wild while you relax, and enjoy the flask you brought in. I will continue to come back, as long as my little one enjoys this place.

C P.

Yelp
Great customer service! Impressed by the young aged staff who maturely handled the heavy crowd. We came with a big crowd and every question I had the staff never became annoyed and went out of their way to take care of my crew. The games need a bit of working on, sometimes you have to use more tokens than what is asked for with a glitch.
