The 12 Best Diners In Miami - Miami - The Infatuation

"Chuck Wagon is a Kendall institution specializing in Southern-style breakfasts in a setting that feels like you’re in a live-action production of Oregon Trail (but without the dysentery). We love ordering a glass of juice with breakfast here for the sole reason that it’s served in a cowboy boot-shaped glass (which you can buy to take home when you pay at the counter). They serve all sorts of American breakfast classics, including solid pancakes and a good bowl of grits. However, a visit to Chuck Wagon without an order of biscuits and gravy is a crime. Especially since they serve one of the best versions in Miami." - Ryan Pfeffer, Virginia Otazo

Chuck Wagon - Review - Kendall - Miami - The Infatuation

"Chuck Wagon is a Kendall institution specializing in Southern-style breakfasts in a setting that feels like you’re in a live-action production of Oregon Trail—but without the dysentery. It’s located in the same shopping plaza as a feed store (horse country is just a few blocks away), which adds to the country vibe. I've been coming here for years and it still holds up. Very friendly service. Awesome people and good old school diner food. This local business is a staple in our community. The staff even knows their regulars by name. I will continue coming here for years to come.

Google
Love their gravy . Great food, great service. Clean location. First time checking out Chuck Wagon.

Google
The breakfast bacon was good, the cafe con leche had way too much foam, and the pancakes felt too saggy and rough flavor, butter was cold and hard. Overall the atmosphere was classic and service was good, I just wish they would have more variety for complete breakfast, such as papas de la casa, French fries included, and the cafe con leche would have less foam, cause i didn’t order a cappuccino.

Chuck Wagon is one of those places that just feels like home. It’s super family-friendly, the kind of spot where you can bring the kids or meet up with friends and know everyone’s going to leave happy (and full). The food is consistently delicious—hearty, flavorful, and made with love—and the service is genuinely kind and attentive without trying too hard. It’s the kind of local gem you find yourself going back to again and again.

I wanted to try a new place besides our usual Denny's so was told that this place was "Great". We were planning to go to the one on Sunset because we were told that the service was impeccable but they are closed on Tuesday. So we decided to drive further to this one. I walked in and the lady screamed from across the room "sit anywhere" ok that's a first. The place looked clean and the ambiance was quiet. We ordered our food and noticed that another table for his food and you could see the steam coming out of his eggs. I told my mom Ok so far so good I could tell the food was coming out Hot. A server came over introduce herself and gave us the menu. I told her it was our first time and she welcomed us. I thought she was going to be our server but NOPE. The next Server came and didn't introduce herself and I told her let's start with coffee. She brings the coffee and it's super watered down and my mom says to me not her it's not strong. Server says, " can't expect much is a nasty coffee" inside I said to myself WOW! I ordered the food. Great presentation but SUPER COLD, bacon extremely salty, tasteless grits and had to add enough ketchup to the eggs. By the way she didn't even give us Water nor offered to bring us. My mom requested a container to take the rest and her reply was "ya- pero que comieron con los ojos" seriously my mother felt she had to tell her she had gastric bypass and eats a little at a time. She was super inappropriate but it gets better. I noticed that the first server brings out the check to the person behind my mom, she takes his credit card and proceeds with the payment. My server comes to my table with my check and tells me you could go to the front and pay. Absolutely NOT! The first server came and took my payment and I did not have to get up. Unbelievable! Never again! Gave it a 2 because of the ambiance not the service.

Google
I don’t k ow what to even say about this experience. I can start with the atmosphere, this is a dated depressing place it feels like you stepped into an outdated 1950s diner in the middle of the desert. The food horrendous my kid asked me how it is possible to ruin a Cuban sandwich breakfast and apparently you can by using stale chewy bread, cheap ham and an overcooked fried egg! Don’t get me started on the grits I mean they have to be the most disgusting thing I’ve had in a while it was cold, bland and tasted industrial. The whole food was just bland and boring. The whole thing was bad the service was awful they look Miserable to be here and they were screaming in the kitchen . Overall I will stay away for good from this place there is nothing positive about this experience

Excellent! If we are ever back in the area we will be back in for breakfast. Very good Western CW special. Good balance of flavors and quality ingredients. Excellent service.

Yelp
Came to Chuck Wagon on a packed Sunday morning with a group of five, and despite how busy it was, the hosts were super attentive and had us seated within about 15 minutes much appreciated! The theme of the restaurant is fun and full of Southern Western cowboy charm, which really adds to the whole brunch experience. I ordered the Cowboy Eggs Benedict, and my family enjoyed the Cuban omelet. The food came out surprisingly fast considering the crowd, and everything was fresh and satisfying. Their café con leche was decent not overly strong, but still a nice touch to the meal. Even with the rush, the staff worked like a well-oiled machine friendly, efficient, and very coordinated. It's clear they know how to handle the weekend brunch crowd. I'd definitely come back again to try more dishes!

Yelp
We were in the area so we stopped by for a late breakfast. The place is spacious and clean...ish. the thinks hanging on the walls need a bit of dusting but that's about it. They must have had a a huge breakfast crowd because they had a lot of staff hanging around. Looking at the reviews this place did not sound promising. I ordered the slam with biscuits and gravy, eggs scrambled soft and an ice tea half sweet half unsweetened. The tea arrived and it was unsweetened. Not a big deal, the universe must have thought with all the calories I was about to consume I didn't need the added sugar. I always ask for my eggs to scrambled soft just to get hard rubbery eggs every single time when we eat breakast out but this time they were absolutely perfect! They definitely knew the assignment! The potatoes were just ok. The biscuit and gravy....delish! The biscuits were warm and fluffy and the sausage gravy had a little kick to it. It was so good! As for the service, you would think that with all the staff they had hanging around it would be a non issue but not one person came by to refill my BF coffee cup. With that said, I would come back again!

Yelp
Fine American food. Works for a group of retirees to meet for lunch because there is plenty of parking available -- and plenty of food choices, from sandwiches and soups to salads. We've been eating there for some months. I just noticed that Theinfatuation.com just listed it as one of the top 12 diners in Miami.

Yelp
Chuck Wagon Restaurant has okay food and good service. The food is reliably good not great but always consistently good. The service is okay, even though it was not packed my water was not refilled. The place looks like a typical diner. It looks clean and spacious. I forgot to take a picture of my food but I ordered over medium eggs with potatoes, avocados, and biscuits. I did not like the potatoes seasoning. However everything else was good. I would come back again.

Yelp
Our Sunday 5/26/24, breakfast orders we got were so-so. Firstly, our son had the Croissant Breakfast Sandwich and he liked it. Our daughter also ordered the Croissant Breakfast Sandwich and she liked it, too. My husband ordered his usual 3 Egg Omelette egg whites with spinach, tomato, and spinach with a diced ham omelet with provolone cheese with a side of rye toast. He as usual was content with his brunch order. I ordered the 3 Egg Omelette whites scrambled with provolone cheese, diced bacon, tomato, spinach, mushroom, diced pepper, and onion with a side of regular home fries, Cuban toast, and a Cappuccino. However, my 3 Egg Omelette came with a goop of white gooey clumps of RAW uncooked egg whites inside the omelet. Not sanitary and healthy at all (see pictures attached). We ordered 2 orange Juices from concentrated OJ, it is super strong and tastes like concentrated OJ. The 3 orders on Saturdays 5/18/24, Sundays 5/19/24, & Saturday 5/25/24 of Breakfast Ham were tasty and fresh, not stale or brown looking like they sent to us us on Monday, 5/27/24. Next, we ordered 4 orders of Turkey Patties. Unfortunately, we received 4 orders of PORK patties which looked and tasted just like PORK patties, NOT like the previous round of plumpy turkey patties we got on 5/18/24 and 5/19/24. The turkey patties we received on Saturday 5/25/24 and Sunday 5/26/24 were PORK patties, not turkey patties. See the pictures below of previously sent Turkey Patties patties that we got on Saturday 5/18/24. Finally, the 4 cups of Fruit Cup salads we ordered were tasty as usual. Wish they would add the banana slices to the fruit salad as they advertise as part of the fruit salad on their menu. They never send banana slices their fruit salads. See the attached pictures.

Yelp
Chuck Wagon has been around for many years and was once a good restaurant. I haven't eaten here in about five years, but my girlfriend recently ordered chicken and waffles through Uber Eats. Unfortunately, the food arrived cold, the waffles were soggy, and the overall taste was terrible. She couldn't eat it at all, making it a complete waste of money. Additionally, the coffee was also awful. This restaurant has definitely gone downhill, and I will never recommend it or return. Save your time and money--it's no longer the family restaurant it used to be.

Yelp
Service and food quality is not the same. Look out for your credit card receipt to sign! I paid with credit card and then when I got my receipt to sign I found g the total was more than doubled! They had charged my credit card a different amount

Yelp
I finally got to eat here after thinking this business was closed, down just by driving through the lot the first time. The food was just OK. I really got a microwavable feeling from this place. Although my meal was simple enough, I just wasn't too enthused by it. Something was off. I think it was the meat itself. The inside look just as I thought it would judging by the outside, a bit run down. The staff was nice, this place just needs a makeover haul I'm sure I would never revisit in the near future. I did have great service though. I thought the waitress was pretty ok. She did get busy waiting all those tables by herself and I did have to help myself to a check out requesting my tab more than once, she just shan't spend too much time talking to one customer when there are others waiting for service, perhaps.

Yelp
Hadn't be here in years because of a rude waitress name Bianca. My brothers wanted to try it again. The menu has changed. Lots more choices. I had chicken strips. Very good. Good portions. Service was great.

Yelp
Since Broadway Bagel is no longer around. This is my new favorite place for biscuits and country food. Breakfast is delicious. But their coffee is amazing. Turns out they get it from a roasters company. So I can't buy it a store. Ambiance is laid back. Bring the kids. You'll leave full and happy. There's room for my wheelchair without having to worry about anyone bumping into me. There's plenty of parking. If you have to wait for a table, you can stroll around the strip mall. The service is friendly. I found out one of the sweet servers has been working here for 16 years. That's always a good sign.
google avatar

Yelp
It's always an amazing breakfast spot to come to. The cafe con leche is delicious along with the waffles with strawberries and whip on top. The service is good and I highly recommend!

Shirley N.

Yelp
The manager didn't want to take my call. They didn't respond to two emails. I don't like the male management who don't answer their phone and don't respond to emails. This business is owned by Kendall Express Inc and uses a bank account that shows their transactions as Chuck Wagon Restaurant. If you look up Chuck Wagon Restaurant on Sunbiz.org it shows up as inactive since December, 2022. The DBPR says their 137ave location is registered with Kendall Express Inc.

This was a great local restaurant for many years. Unfortunately- Permanently closed Oct 2023

Yelp
We are new to the area and wanting a good old American style breakfast that's not Dennys or IHOP and this place was it! The food was delicious and fresh! Our server and the other staff were pleasant and inviting. I highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Quality has diminished over the years needs to be improved food is low quality, the ambiance is corny and outdated lacks the same charm it once had, plain out mediocre as the demographic that once attended this place slowly stop being able to frequent this establishment other restaurants will take over a younger niche
google avatar

Yelp
Sad to know that for cost they changed there Recipe from the country fried steak no good at all

Mariangel M.

Yelp
No hash browns. No flavor in the syrup. Al otro le gusto. I've had better. Iced coffee was hot. House fries undercooked and soggy. Waffles good. Chicken good. Burrito was meh. No shoe cup. And water was tap.

Yelp
I love Chuck wagons 2 other locations. This was my first time at this location 11230 I came in with good expectations how ever that quickly changed the waitress did not seem to want to be at work, when the meal came it was not to chuckwagon standard. Meatloaf seemed like it was from a frozen dinner and the potatoes were a bit uncooked. After about 20 minutes of waiting the waitress shows up my wife explained the issues with the meal. Again she didn't show any signs of caring about the customer, she actually disputed the quality of the meal. Final thought, terrible service, terrible quality of the meal. Proceed with caution. I will not be attending this location again.

Yelp
Love this place, but if your server is sick...she should stay home. Got sick. noticed how she was feeling after I paid my bill

Yelp
Good country breakfast, nice variety of selection. Always clean sad friendly service. Have eaten in and ordered food from here and it's always good

Yelp
Coming from someone that's worked their whole life in the kitchen this place was straight trash. The food was cold, under seasoned and over priced. Once asked to have the something untouched taken off my tab bc it was so gross the owner of the restaurant started crying that it's not his fault. The waiter was not very attentive, then owner was rude and stuck up, I definitely will never eat here again or recommend it.

Michael M.

Yelp
I know many people that love this place but it's not for me. It's clean and looks like a good diner. Servers all speak very limited English. Owner seems clueless, thinking that since they may look cute, they are ok. Basic breakfast is subpar and fairly tasteless. Scrambled eggs are always overcooked, crisp bacon comes out not crisp and tastes horrible to me. The only reason I ever go here is to wait for car from the great car wash in the parking lot.

nicholas c.

Yelp
Chuck wagon is the best restaurant for country style breakfast for sure i freakin love the food especially that sweet sweet country gravy
google avatar

Matthew S.

Yelp
This place is located in a strip mall, which is very unbecoming. As is the signage outside for all the stores and restaurants located there. Upon entry, you get the impression of an old West Texas dinner. That was a surprise. The food I'd absolutely awesome. The cornbread was hot and fresh and moist- right out of the oven taste. We devoured it. The chicken fried chicken was unbelievably tender and juicy. Served with mashed potatoes and corn. It was topped with brown gravy, although I prefer white. Still, it was delicious on its lightly breaded crust. For dessert, we had their huge cinnamon roll. Amazing, The service was great and friendly. We will definitely be back.

Conrad W.

Yelp
I was just reading some of the reviews. The poor reviews. I don't understand the bad reviews. I come to the Chuck Wagon and one of their sister resturant the Muffing Tin at least 5 days a week. There service is really great, the food is really good. Plus they both treat me as part of their family. I have some health problems and they are very supportive and watchful. The owners and their's take time to learn your name. They have a very big "return customers" they visit these establishment all the time.

Yelp
Ordered breakfast for delivery. I was very pleased with the food and that they followed all of the special instructions such as putting toppings on the side. Comforting breakfast.

Yelp
Cute place but the food was mediocre. The Cuban sandwich was not flavorful and the home fries were too soft. The only thing that was good was their coffee.
google avatar

Yelp
If I could pick no stars I would. How do you have NUMEROUS of waiters but all of them hanging around in the front just talking. Took our waitress literally 15 minutes to take our order after we told her we needed alittle bit more time after getting our drink order. Then decides to sit on our table complaining about how her feet hurt and started stretching lmao! No. By the way, water taste like toilet water. Then yuck the food was disgusting! The "fries" were SUPER cold, nearly frozen. The waffles tasted like I was eating a bowl of burnt rice. Nasty! Never again!!! Clean up the place as well. It smells bad!
google avatar

Loffee N.

Yelp
Update 4 Months later, I was in the area to get a car wash and saw this spot and remembered they my missed items from my Uber order. I went in and told them if they remembered. They were pleasant and was given a gift certificate, not to mention the great old country food. Service was awesome! Thank you
google avatar

ishar k.

Yelp
Food & service good but when it's time to pay it's hand written tabs, so be very careful when your check is handed, you may be paying someone else higher bill. I heard other customers complaining while they were searching for mine with the mix up.
google avatar

Armando L.

Yelp
That's it! I give up!! Never again!!! I cannot express to you how poor the service at this location is. As you can see from my check-in's I have continued to give this location an opportunity to meet my expectations. It is so much closer than the one on 117; but that's it. Today was the last straw. After being seated we waited close to 10 minutes for a waitress to come to our table to take our order. When she was finally asked by one of her colleagues to wait on us she almost seemed bothered. I asked her if she had something more important that she needed to do, that we would be happy to continue waiting. She replied "absolutely not, I am happy to take your order". You could've cut the sarcasm in the air with a knife. The food came and as usual, it was fine. I just cannot get over the service. I don't understand how two restaurants owned by the same family could be so different. I will never be back to this location and may stop going to chuckwagon all together as a result of today's experience. The food is good but the service... Well, what service???
google avatar

Lauren P.

Yelp
I thought i would give this place another try but it's Still the same. I gave one more star cause the service was actually good this time. I asked for eggs over medium and they still were undercooked. I'm done trying to come back here. Gordon Ramsey needs to come here and save this place.

Yelp
ZERO STARS .... I was visiting my hometown , Miami. A friend and I decided to go to chum wagon. WORST DECISION EVER. our server was prejudice towards us because we have tattoos and piercings. She didn't want to take us. She barely spoke to us. Kept leaving super quick after dropping off things to our table. She took 20 minutes to bring us our DRINKS. The grits were so bland it was disgusting. My friends 8 year old daughter didn't eat hers bc she did not like them so she asked to take it off the tab since she didn't eat them. The server proceeds to asks her what was wrong with the grits so she can tell the owner. AFTER SHE TOLD HER WHAT WAS WRONG... she tells the owner who proceeded to say out loud "ITS NOT MY FUCKING FAULT SHE DIDNT LIKE THEM. WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO??" As a business owner myself, I would have never imagined a grown ass old ass man to say such a thing especially about an 8 yr old child. Then he proceeded to walk out the kitchen again huffing n puffing so loud we heard him as we left and I watched as he shook his head. They all seem racist they didn't want to service us which is why the service was so horrendous. I should have known that place was trash when I walked in and saw it was absolutely empty. That place is fucking garbage. La gente ayi son racistas por Que tenemos tatuajes. El dueno es tremendo come pinga, la meseras eran tremendas come mierdas. No se para que trabajan con el publico si no saben como tratar a las gente. Ese lugar era tremenda mierda

Michael - Mickey A.

Yelp
I've been coming to this restaurant with my Wife and Kids for the last 10 or more years. I visited two days ago for breakfast. Sadly, the place isn't what it used to be. Although the staff is friendly and courteous as has always been, the food was not so good, at least not what it used to be. The eggs came out on the cold side and over cooked for sunnyside, and the home potatoes were not seasoned well and were also on the cold side. VERY SIMPLE 2 eggs and ham with toast and coffee should NOT cost $13. Especially when served at room temp. I can get this same breakfast at Munchies with Cafe Con Leche (coffee with milk) and a side order of colada (Cuban cofffe) aka "cuban crack" for $6. Sadly, I will not be visiting this Chuck Wagon again, however there is another Chuck Wagon on 117th Street just south of Sunset Drive, and I still have hope. . .

Yelp
This place was recommended to us and honestly i loved everything about this gem! The food was delicious, service was outstanding my server was Delacey (i think that's how you spell her name) she was super sweet and welcoming! Give this place a try you won't regret it! I have the ham & cheese omelette with chocolate chip pancakes, and white toast and it was bussin!
google avatar

Carlos G.

Yelp
The place is nasty. Booths were not clean. Breakfast was tasteless. I had eggs and pork chop plate. Eggs smelled weird and "pork chop" was just a lame thin cold pork steak.
google avatar

Cristina P.

Yelp
Foods ok for the price I really just thought the boot OJ was cute and different. I personally am not a breakfast customer who enjoys having half the male staff watching you eat your entire breakfast because they apparently are getting paid to stare at customers and take 1hr to roll silverware lol Not for me I enjoy my privacy when I eat not "all eyes on me" like I'm some kind of dam movie star!
google avatar

Pedro R.

Yelp
Solid three stars. Nothing too fancy or that great but if you want some quick and large portion for breakfast with the family then this is your spot. It's big enough to accommodate large parties inside. Their biscuits are huge! The gravy that comes with it is also pretty delicious. That's probably about it for the highlights of the food. It's like a diner but with a more restaurant feel
google avatar

Marilyn M.

Yelp
I've been here a couple times on my own for breakfast. I love the OJ in a boot (though I wonder how they clean the toes area in particular?) I'll try not to wonder too much. I love the Wagon Wheel (?) Slam. It's only $8 and comes with eggs, bacon, biscuit (and gravy which I skip) and home fries. It always fills me up. I love my biscuits with strawberry jelly so I save that for "dessert". The place definitely needs remodel/renovation (Robert Irvine would start by decluttering and rip out those carpets!) but in this case it isn't a big deal to me. The food is fast, cheap and hot. The service is typical for diner-type place. Ask for a punch card when you pay. I'll be back when I'm in the area and craving breakfast.
google avatar

Megg S.

Yelp
This place is good because of location, however they are very unorganized and they don't know restaurant service. Also, the host and hostest doesn't do a proper greeting they lack training in general I don't know how they still have job here.. They finally somewhat updated the place inside with new carpet. All things aside the good thing is that they never screwed up my order and they are quick to serve you your food.
google avatar

Jessica A.

Yelp
It's a great place to nurse your hangover if your into greasy diner breakfast-food like eggs, sausage and hash browns. If you're feeling saucy, you can even get them all rolled into one with the Chuck Wagon Special. The gravy's a bit bland for me and I usually end up with an egg, sausage and cheese sandwich on rye (with jelly) and leave quite satisfied. I don't find the prices to be outrageous at all; it's cheaper than Denny's and you get a, "we're not in Miami anymore, Toto" kinda vibe. The decor is hideous but that just adds to the charm in my opinion. There are a few locations but I frequent this one the most. I've found the food to be fairly consistent across the board.
google avatar

Antonio A.

Yelp
I think the food here is tasty and inexpensive and the service is fast and friendly. This place needs a good $15K to remodel the interior with new flooring an tables/booths/chairs. That or Robert Irvine and the team from F.N. to come in and fix it up. I ordered the Grand Slam and could not believe the amount of food I was served for just $8! A little less egg and a little less homefries and it still would've been a good size portion. I watch a lot of R.I. on the Food Network to suspect that this place might not know its food cost. What does that mean to you and me as patrons? For one, if they cant turn a profit they can never save enough $$ to remodel. Or worse, they might not be able to stay and business. Again, all of this is speculation on my part. I really have no clue how they stand financially. I just want to see them do well so I can come and enjoy their delicious biscuits. I could dock a star because the place is outdated and a little dingy (especially the carpet eww) but that would be counterproductive in my opinion. Besides, the food hit the spot. So about those biscuits...they were absolutely PERFECT. Light and fluffy and warm. And I.Love.Biscuits!! The order came with 2...yay! So I had one with butter and one with strawberry jelly as my dessert ;) The eggs were perfectly seasoned and surprisingly flavorful. I'm used to being served very bland eggs at most diner-style breakfast joints. But these were yummy. The potatoes were alright. I was especially happy to see I wasn't served all the black burnt pieces most places will give you along with your potatoes (a-hem Deli Lane!) Anyway, I wish these had some herbs or spices (paprika?). I didn't taste the sausage gravy because I personally hate the stuff. And the OJ was your regular OJ from concentrate (perhaps Minute Maid?) Fine by me because I'm trying to keep it cheap when I come to places like this. Fresh squeezed wouldve been a $1 or 2 more, understandably. All in all, a tasty, fast, friendly, inexpensive breakfast joint desperately needed in Kendall. (They also serve Lunch...I will update review once I've been back to try it.)

Yelp
I used to come to Chuck Wagon regularly, but hadn't been in a while. I ended up coming in on a weekday for breakfast. Given the sparsity of customers, I would have thought that the service would have been a little better. The waiters were very friendly, but didn't check on our table much. At one point I had to go looking for someone. Everything in the place seems a bit dated, and could use some freshening up. I'm a fan of the general atmosphere, but the tables and seats could look a bit newer/cleaner. The food, however, is very good, and reasonably priced.

Yelp
Terrible place to eat, the gas are ALWAYS cold, the coffee is always cold, they bring the toasts after breakfast is finished....dont know how this place manages to stay open. My friends and I stopped patronizing this place a long time ago, save your money and aggravation and go somewhere else

Yelp
This is a great place for breakfast! Ask for Barbara, she is amazing! She helped us get the right plates. Their Corned beef hash is the best in town! Their 3 egg omelettes are delicious! They have a good atmosphere and greet you when you walk through the door. If you are in the neighborhood stop by and get your chuck wagon meal on.

Yelp
A great place for Breakfast, love the Biscuits and gravy. Never a long wait to be seated, and the food never takes long. I'm not overly fond of the home style potatoes. Everthing else I've had has been very good.

Yelp
Great for a quick bite for breakfast! I personally like the chocolate chip pancakes with potatoes! I pretty much order choc.chip pancakes any time I'm stopping at a breakfast spot, and theirs are not too shabby in comparison to other local spots. We always get quick and friendly service when go too!
